Some spare Danganronpa birthday badges came in the mail today. I already own theses, but I wanted more anyway.

A short time after Izuru and Mahiru save the child Kamukuras from their lab, a letter arrives in the mailbox at Byakuya’s mansion.

It reads simply: “We allowed you your first infraction. We have allowed you to live in this place undisturbed. That does not entitle you to commandeer all future iterations of the project. Return to us what you have recently stolen, or your current unbothered lifestyle will come to an end.”

It’s addressed to “The Izuru Kamukura Project Iteration 1”, which tells Izuru that it wasn’t sent through the normal postal service. It was also beneath the normal mail, which would suggest that it arrived earlier, but this was done deliberately to obfuscate the time of delivery; the dust and debris in the bottom of the mailbox has been pushed to the back in a way that suggests the envelope was slid underneath the others rather than placed in the box while it was empty.

And since he started for the mailbox as soon as he heard the mailman leaving, this means that whoever delivered the threat is still within running distance, no matter what kind of vehicle they’re driving.

Fifteen minutes later, Izuru strides back into the mansion with one conscious man over his shoulder and one unconscious man being dragged behind him in the same hand that’s still holding today’s mail.

Nagisa shortly appears at the edge of the genkan, having heard the sound of something dragging on the floor (from what was certainly several rooms away) and been so anxious to make himself useful that he sprinted right over. He dutifully goes to shut the front door behind Izuru, then follows him into the foyer.

“Tie these up for me,” Izuru requests, dropping both men. “To the third floor northeast shower room's towel rack, if you don’t mind.”

“Thank you,” Nagisa says. (Always his reaction to being given a task.) He drags both of the captives off by their ankles. If the conscious one fights back, he will be easy to subdue.

By this time, Nagito has come to see what the unusual sounds are about. “Can I have one?” he asks.

Izuru ignores the question, handing Nagito the letter. “They stopped by to deliver this.”

Nagito reads the whole letter before he’s done unfolding it. “Oh dear! Are we torturing them for information, then?” he asks gleefully.

“You won’t be involved in the interrogation, for obvious reasons.”

“Is it because I said 'torture'?”

“No. But on that subject, the scrupulous ones are still out, aren’t they?”

“They haven’t returned to the mansion. And if I had planted a tracker on everyone in our social unit, I would probably say that [Makoto] is on the school campus, visiting with his ex-classmates, and [Mahiru] is having lunch a discreet distance away to allow them the illusion of privacy. On the other hand, if I hadn’t planted a tracker on everyone in our social unit, I would say no such thing.”

Kotoko drops into view. Rather than descend all the way down the stairs, she has taken to dangling off the side of the banister with one hand (and either dropping down to the floor directly or just dangling long enough to say her piece and climb back up). “Are we torturing someone?” she asks, swinging in place as though weightless.

“No, ‘we’ are not. And I hope the silver hairs on your clothes don’t mean you’ve smuggled another cat into your room.”

“It’s a rabid one this time,” Nagisa tattles, already returning from his task.

“Early stages,” Kotoko says dismissively.

“Our lives are all at risk.”

“I’ve quarantined the other cats from the rabid one. It’s just an experiment. I want to see if caring for it, only to eventually watch it die of natural causes, will make me cry.”

“Get off the banister,” Izuru suggests, making a mental note to stock up on rabies shots. “Togami will be annoyed if you break it.”

Kotoko drops to the floor, doing two somersaults on the way down. “Are you going to give us back?” she asks, because of course she read the letter through the back of the page and from across the room.

“No. They have no right to my successors.”

“Okay. I’m going to go play with my microwave.” (She does a few cartwheels and flips on the way to the kitchen, an act of Ultimate Gymnastics which serves as a sure sign that she is happy, despite her stoic expression.)

“I tied their hands and feet,” Nagisa reports. “Their hands are secured to the towel rack. I also removed the rugs from that room, just in case. They both had cell phones in their pockets, so I collected those for you. The conscious one didn't put up a fight, and the unconscious one was starting to wake up when I left. Did you want them gagged?”

“No thank you. You made quick work of it. I’m impressed.”

Nagisa smiles. “If you’d like to assess my knot work…”

“In a minute. Go find Byakuya for me. He’ll want to know we’ve been threatened.”

Nagisa runs off.

“How exciting,” Nagito says, running his fingers over each line of the terse letter as if it were a handwritten love note. “This will be so exciting.”

"I won't need to torture them," Izuru says informationally. "They're going to tell me everything they know about the ones who sent that message, and I won't have to torture them."

"Of course. On an unrelated note, I've been wanting to regrout the tiles in the third floor northeast shower room."

"Hush."

❥ He will just google what it is. Why is my significant other acting like a child?

❥ The part about the severe trauma makes him uncomfortable. He does not want to talk about it to you but he will comfort you in any ways he can, which is not much since be all goopy and sappy crosses his boundaries too.

❥ Anything you want, he'll get. It's not a bother to him to go ask someone to go shopping for baby stuff. If anything, it makes him feel a bit bittersweet, but that's about as negative as it gets.

❤ Once you explain what it is, he would have just assumed that's how you usually act. He'll also ask intrusive questions about your trauma.

Hello there! I hope this letter finds you well. How are you doing? I'm really sad that you weren't able to come on the tour with me. Me and the girls just arrived from the airport by the time I'm writing this and I wanted to send you a postcard! I'm sure you wouldn't mind a new one everyday.

By now, we should have been used to travelling to different countries on tour, but it every experience is still so thrilling. Not only have the fans been really nice, but the locals too! i’ve  spoken  out  quite  frequently  about  how  much  i  despise  this  ship .        i’m  absolutely  willing  to  concede  that  fukawa’s  crush ,        and  eventual  love  for  togami  is  integral  to  her  base  motivations ;        he  catalyses  much  of  her  personal  development ,       as  well  as  exemplifies  the  unhealthy  relationship  that  fukawa  has  with  love ,      as  well  as  herself  with  regard  to  love .        i  often  play  upon  her  unconditionally  positively  regard  for  togami  in  my  characterization  &  my  writing ,        and  i  don’t  rob  my  fukawa  of  that  aspect  of  her  personality .        i  may  not  agree  with  it ,      but  it  is  important :        to  the  plot ,      to  her  arc ,      and  to  her .

however .        i  cannot  forgive  how  objectively  unhealthy  this  relationship  is ,      and  would  be ,      in  a  hypothetically  romantic  sense .        togami  doesn’t  understand  base  human  emotions ,      and  he  doesn’t  value  his  personal  relationships ;      subsequently ,      he  emotionally  manipulates  fukawa ,      a  woman  who  is  clearly  mentally  unwell  and  engaging  in  her  idealist  escapism  to  cope  with  reality ,        betrays  her  trust ,      and  desecrates  a  a  corpse  just  to  stick  it  to  her .        the  woman  saves  his  life  in  towa ,      dedicates  a  year  of  her  life  to  holding  back  a  civil  war ,      and  yet  he  still  relegates  her  as  subordinate  to  him .

what  i  am  willing  to  acknowledge  is  that  togami  has  done  generally  good  things  for  fukawa :      he  gave  her  the  stun  gun ,      and  helped  her  figure  out  how  to  control  her  switches .        narrative  device  all  you  want ,      but  togami  helped  fukawa  attain  agency  over  her  body  and  her  mind ,       and  in  so  doing ,      improved  her  quality  of  life  exponentially .        fukawa  and  syo  openly  blamed  each  other  for  their  respective  intrapersonal  issues  before  this  point  in  canon ;      afterward ,      we  see  them  reach  a  mutual  agreement ,      develop  a  common  goal ,      and  respect  each  other  in  a  way  that  both  of  them  could  interpret  as  respect .

what  might  be  just  a  stun  gun  to  anyone  else  is  a  lifeline  to  fukawa .        she  spends  decades  loathing  herself  for  the  fact  of  her  existence ;      after  gaining  back  some  control ,      something  she  has  continuously  been  denied  for  her  entire  life ,      we  see  her  prosper .      be  brave .      translate  her  infatuation  into  something  that  inspires  her  to  be  bold ,      to  confront  her  phobias ,      and  to  improve  upon  herself .      for  herself .      not  for  togami ;      for  her .      i  think  this  really  diverts  her  maladaptive  tendencies  into  something  far  healthier ,      and  more  constructive ;      her  relationship  to  togami ,      and  her  feelings  for  him ,      changes .

but  there’s  really  no  forgiving  what  togami  did  to  fukawa  in  the  killing  game ;      at  least ,      my  fukawa  can’t  forgive  it .      she  does  attain  perspective ,      which  motivates  her  decision  to  stay  with  komaru  in  towa ;      moving  forward  from  there ,      i  think  she  acknowledges  how  his  belittlement  and  dehumanization  of  her  emotions ,      however  misguided  they  were ,      were  seriously  detrimental  to  her  overall .      this  solidifying  moment  dictated  her  further  conduct  in  the  killing  game  as  someone  who  is  fundamentally  unable  to  trust  others ;      someone  who  others  herself ;      someone  who  isn’t  worthy  of  respect  of  equitable  treatment .

considering  that  genosyo  exists  to  protect  fukawa ,      the  shit  togami  pulled  would  have  got  him  deaded ,      under  any  regular  circumstance .         fukawa  knows  this ,      too .        while  she  always  harbors  little  ill  regard  for  the  boys  who  have  hurt  her  in  the  past ,      and  have  therefore  ended  up  on  the  genosyo  scoreboard ,      this  is  long  of  her  guilt .      they’re  dead ,      and  she  can’t  do  anything  about  it .        togami  is  alive ;      she  can’t  reconcile  guilt  for  a  man  who  is  still  alive ,      but  unapologetic  for  his  treatment  of  her .       it’s  traumatic  for  fukawa ;      she  keeps  trying  because  he’s  still  alive ,      despite  knowing  he  was  wrong .

togami  and  fukawa  is  perilously  unhealthy .      i  won’t  touch  upon  those  subordinating  sexual  fantasies  of  hers ,      except  to  say  that  i  genuinely  do  love  that  love - dazed ,      star - crossed  aspect  of  her  personality .      it’s  a  pleasure  to  play ,      even  when  it  turns  overtly  sexual .      but  the  way  she  so  persistently  loves  this  man  in  spite  of  what  he  did  to  her  just  ...      breaks  my  heart .        i  can  say  that  i  have  tried  this  ship  on  for  size  with  a  friend  of  mine  who  writes  a  brilliant  togami  ,      but  that  it  took  some  200k  words  before  it  was  even  close  to  being  a  workable ,      equitable ,      mutually  beneficial  dynamic .        i  just  can’t .
