Arcadia Bay & The Wall

A headcanon based on the location of Arcadia due to its climate and canon location in which is originally based in the united states.

Without using a reference photo upon the map, Arcadia Bay is the most North-Eastern village in the Mortal Lands, practically hugging the wall, within limits of course. I chose this due to not only Oregon being a forested area, but due to Arcadia's heavily forested surroundings. Some features of note would be the light house as well as Blackwell Academy. The lighthouse obviously implies the use of boats and fishing- it being a fishing based town. As for the Academy it simply implies that of a youth filled town as well as those dwelling within possessing more of an education than most other humans in the Mortal Lands. Explaining the strange goings on can be tied in with the canon events of A Court of Thorns and Roses, as well as Maxine's strange ability to manipulate time manifesting.

Excerpt, Nadira & Blackwell

“Move it. Blackwell doesn’t like to wait.” 

To say those words shook her to the core would be an understatement. Never in her life had she imagined coming face to face with that man. For him to recommend her, he had to know about her prior unsavory activity. It was disturbing to think about. When exactly did he catch on?

What makes it worse was that Aurora Brightweaver was one of the few Mages to have mastered teleportation. It was a miraculous display of talent, but not one that made things any easier for Nadira. They were sudddenly and violently transported into a strange room. *spoiler*. In one word, it was creepy.  Nadira prided herself on not scaring easily. Yet even she found herself just disconcerted.

“I’m going to leave this one in your hands. Don’t scare her off Blackwell, you're the one who wanted her here.” Brightwweaver said, a strange emotion in her voice that Nadira couldn’t place. 

With that the only comforting presence in the strange room teleported out of sight,  leaving Nadira alone with someone she never wanted to be alone with. He looked her up and down in the same examining manner as  Brightweaver. It wasn’t malicious, or goddess forbid, lecherous. But, it was uncomfortable. Brightweaver had been looking at her. Blackwell? He was looking through her. He said not a word, simply handing her a full venetian face mask.

“Do you think this is strange?” Blackwell said. “A criminal becoming an enforcer of justice.”

Nadira tried very hard to keep her emotions off her face. “I’ll admit that I find it ironic. I was wondering if this was all some elaborate stunt to trick me into a jail cell.”

“Trust that I don’t need any tricks to get you into a jail cell. Or I wouldn’t have, seeing as I’m officially out of a job.” Blackwell sighed, seeming slightly more human than a minute ago. Nadira took a second to appraise him. He was clearly aged, wrinkles of all sorts were etched onto a weary face. His figure was lean and wiry. Which for anyone but a mage would make him an easy target. Looks could be deceiving. She let herself question what brought him to this state. Had the decades of locking mages in that fly away prison of his weighed on him?

Would it weigh that heavily on her?

“I believe as much. Which makes me all the more curious. Forgive me, but the rumors say that you never let a criminal go.” For anyone looking on the outside, she would appear to be confident. Blackwell didn’t seem intimidated in the slightest, but intimidating him would be a dumb thing to try. Nadira just had to create an unbothered image. She would take advantage of the opportunity granted to her. Even if it was a truly terrible oppurtunity. 

“The rumors are just rumors. I’ll teach you the power of those another time.” Blackwell chuckled, but it wasn’t a lighthearted one. No, it was the chuckle of a man who was not smiling on the inside. When Nadira didn’t respond Blackwell continued. “I’m sure you’re wondering what the mask is for. I’ll answer your question. You’re about to mingle with your fellow cabinet members for the first time. We found that it would be best if you could talk without discerning your faces.” 

That was curious. What would be the trouble in letting them see each other's faces. Nadira said as much, “Wouldn’t hiding our faces make us trust eachother less?”

"It’s for a few people's sakes, you and three others. Of course everyone will have a mask, but you four will probably be the only ones that need them. Officially, the mask are required for your entire training period and must be removed once it ends. I’m sure you’ll understand the need eventually.” Blackwell made a hand motion around his face, insinuating it was time to go.

Nadira donned the mask she'd been given before asking a final question “What will you do to stop me from dropping my mask before the training is over? Are these enchanted?”

“No, we won’t stop you from removing the mask; it's all about trust,” Blackwell told her.

Location: Beach It was charity. What other reason did Patrick need to attend an auction and find himself ‘buying’ some quality time with a staff member - when all of them were available to him with a mere call? It was for charity – something that Patrick hoped to make him feel better about himself when deep down he was feeling… not so great. Being away from Alexander thorn his insides apart, a constant feeling of longing keeping him company ever since that argument at the King’s house. He didn’t like sleeping alone. He missed Alex spooning him from behind and waking up to his smile every morning – but while he was not as well educated as Alex, Thomas or even Steven Blackwell, Patrick had eyes. He wasn’t stupid. There were unresolved issues between Alex and Steven and while a part of him felt bad for putting a pause on what he had with the King so that he had the chance to figure out what was going on with his ex-fiancee… another part of him was already preparing for the worst. What chances did he stand against a man that Alex was going to get married in the past? Their actual relationship was still fresh… there was no way he could compete against memories of years together. But as long as Alex would be happy… He would also be happy?

Patrick sighed as he stepped onto the beach as the sun began to set on the horizon. It was still warm but not as hot as it had been hours prior and to him, what better time of day to meet the staff he had won at the auction? He had met Alec before and he was happy that he managed to buy the time with someone he was already familiar with rather than a complete stranger. He had texted Alec earlier for the other man to meet him at the beach during sunset – and all he needed to do now was wait… while praying that the ice creams he had bought for them wouldn’t melt before Alec arrived. Honestly… all he wanted was to give Alec his ice cream and thank him for being such a good sport, kiss him on the cheek and send him home. Not only was Patrick aware of how it felt sometimes for a staff to be forced to be with someone they didn’t want to be with but he also wasn’t feeling his usually happy, go-lucky self. If anything… he was feeling his rage and aggression bubbling on the inside. Angry at himself, at Alex, at Steven… at the whole fucking world. Sure, he lied and cheated on people for information but he had never actually hurt anyone. His morals weren’t exactly noble or worth following but not everything about that world was fair. So why was life being such a bitch? He had finally found someone he loved and it was now being taken away from him. How was that fair? Should he be more like the Blackwell and the King’s? Ruthless? Unforgiving? Care about nothing but himself? If that was the answer… what other choice did he have?
