get started in meat rabbits masterpost!

yesterday i accidentally hijacked a friend's post and got way more engagement than i expected, which is both amazing and exhausting. so today i present to you: a big post full of resources and answers to the most common questions i've been getting! please refer to this now before dming me with questions <3

information below the cut!

why rabbits?

because they're one of (and in my opinion, THE,) best small-scale meat animal out there. they are relatively small, extremely quiet, can live in cages and therefore do not take up much space, and have a higher feed conversion rate (meaning they make more meat per lb of feed) than chickens, and their poop is AMAZING for gardening! in the footprint of a washer and dryer you can have a trio of breeding animals and space for growing out their litters if you use stacking cages. you just can't beat that.

what do they taste like?

like chicken or turkey. domestic rabbit meat is a very mild, white meat, and can be substituted for chicken in almost every meal. most of my rabbit i grind into mince and use it in place of ground beef. my rabbits, at least, get enough fat to make it unnecessary to cut the mince with pork or beef fat, so even the burgers are really juicy!

will you sell me some meat?

unfortunately in the state of washington it is illegal to sell meat that has been processed at home. at best i could sell you a whole rabbit but you'd have to butcher it yourself.

how much do they cost?

this depends heavily on where you live, though imo they have a fairly low upfront cost relative to other livestock. your biggest upfront expensive will be cages, though you can find good deals on cages and other equipment at livestock auctions/swaps and craiglist/kijiji/similar. the rabbits themselves can be anywhere from free to $100+, though i personally would not pay more than $30-$35 USD for a meat animal (but again, your average prices may vary.) after that, it's all in the price of feed.

feed costs vary from area to area and brand to brand - generally a locally milled feed will be a bit more cost-effective but they can also be lower quality so do your research. depending on your area, you can also feed rabbits partially or even completely on forage or pasture, just make sure you keep an eye on your parasite loads and weights to ensure they are eating enough.

i do not personally believe that feeding hay is necessary for rabbits to be healthy, which is contrary to what most of you may have heard from online sources. we'll talk about that in a minute. all commercially-available pelleted rabbit feets are made with hay, and the 'long-stem' thing you read about is based on studies in ruminant animals that DO need a 'grass mat' to digest properly...but rabbits are not ruminants. they chew up their hay into fine dust, which is basically what pellets are anyway.

what other equipment do i need?

obviously, your first step should be cages. i prefer cages that are either 24x24 or 30x30 inches depending on the size of the rabbit. you generally want a cage big enough for the animal to lay flat on its belly with its legs out and not touch at least one of the sides (i prefer them to be able to touch none,) and tall enough that they can sit up comfortably. i like to err on the side of larger for breeding does, since their nestbox will take up floor space for a few weeks, and the kits need room to run around and grow before they are weaned. weaned kits need a larger cage or hutch to grow out in until they are eating size.

these cages can be wire bottomed or solid bottomed, just be aware of the hygiene differences between these styles of cages. wire cages are not evil, and will not harm a rabbit's feet provided it has proper density of fur. you can avoid foot problems by buying and breeding rabbits with well-furred feet.

other necessary equipment includes: feeders (j-feefers or pro-b feeders are my favourites), some way to provide water such as bottles, crocks, or an automatic watering system, a hay rack if you want to provide hay, grooming tools such as combs and brushes (if applicable; most rabbits will not need much grooming,) nail clippers, a first-aid kit containing things such as scissors, vet wrap, antibiotic gels and drops, saline solution, fenbendazole (brand name panacur, a dewormer,) gas medications such as simethicone/gas-x, critical care (a specially formulated powdered feed that you can mix into a gruel and syringe feed rabbits that won't eat on their own,) probiotic powder, electrolyte powder, and of course, toys!

make sure any provided toys are edible (so avoid plastic,) and will not get turned into mush and cause dirty mats in the cage when peed on. toilet paper and paper towel tubes are great, as are just chunks of untreated lumber offcuts, wooden baby blocks, or soda boxes. if you have some splurging money, bird toy websites like abirdtoy.com have amazing selections of things that rabbits love destroying. i recommend the refillable skewers!

what about vet care?

this is a fairly divisive topic. most vets do not know much about rabbits, and those that do are typically operating on outdated or simply untrue information that aligns with animal rights groups. therefore, a lot of meat and show breeders do not trust or use vets unless the situations are dire or there is disease testing to be done, and then generally we'll go to our state's ag exstension or college lab. i don't want to come off as anti-vet, i am far from it. but i and most people i know have not had good experiences with vets treating rabbits.

in general, exotic animal vet care (and yes, rabbits are considered exotic pets,) is extremely cost-prohibitive in general, much less when you have multiple animals. like most farmers, rabbit breeders typically handle basic medical situations ourselves.

how many rabbits do i need?

the average litter size is between 5 and 8 kits, and rabbits can breed montly (though i recommend giving the girls breaks between litters depending on how they kept condition.) a trio of one buck and two does can produce a very good amount of meat for a one or two person household. my spouse and i lived on five or six litters a year for a very long time, using rabbit as our primary meat source!

do they need friends?

no. despite what house rabbit circles tell you, rabbits do NOT need companions and in fact having cagemates can stress them out unnecessarily. rabbits live in warrens in the wild, yes, but that is a survival tactic and the warrens are usually very violent and only work because they can run away when they need to. in capitivity, rabbits that are cohabitated can and commonly will KILL one another. it is much safer and less stressful to keep rabbits in their own spaces. i promise they won't mind.

rabbit colonies, where they are raised together in more 'natural' systems, are becoming very popular with homesteading circles but you should not jump into colonies as your first way to keep rabbits. they require just as much if not even more time and effort to manage than your typical cage setup. plus, you have to have the space to do that, which not everyone has.

can you help me find rabbits?

maybe! if you live in the united states and are comfortable sharing your local craigslist, i can take a look and link you to any rabbits or equipment i think would be worth your time. if you are local to me in western washington's i-5 corridor counties, i may have rabbits i can sell you for the price of feed and gas, but that depends on availability. if you are on the olympic peninsula in kitsam, jefferson, or clallam counties, hit up my buddy ren @buttonbuckfarm for similar services.

arent't they really fragile?

yes and no. rabbits are prey animals with an extremely specialised digestive system. if you are familiar with horses...same deal. if a rabbit stops eating, it will die, and they love bloating/colicking just like horses. there are also a few diseases that are common in rabbits that you should keep an eye out for, especially if you pasture or forage raise.

that being said, rabbits are not made of glass. you can flip them, you can poke them, prod them, put them in a car, drive them across the country, and squish them into weird shapes on a show table. as long as you take precautions during stressful situations and desensitise them to things like handling and transport early, they're shockingly physically hardy despite their sensitive guts.

i'm scared to kill them...what if i mess up?

it's perfectly understandable to fear the end of the process of raising rabbits. and accidents do happen. slaughter is a skill that must be practiced, and maybe you can take solace in knowing that we have all messed one up at some point or another. when this happens, the only thing you can do is try again as quickly as you can until you can confirm the animal is dead. and then take a minute to decompress.

it comes easy to me, but i know that is not true for everyone. but i am a firm believer that if you are going to eat meat, you should know where it comes from and how it gets to your plate. the best thing we can do for our food is to give it a wonderful life, kill as kindly as we can, and use as much of it as we are able.

how do i process them once they're dead?

this is another one you can find pretty good videos of online. visiting a local rabbit show may get you in contact with someone willing to teach you in person, as well!

i am working on a big project website that is basically all i think you should know about raising rabbits, which will include detailed slaughter, skinning, and butchering videos, though as of now these are not available. i plan to have this project at least usably done by the end of the year!

ok so what's the thing with pet owners vs breeders

you may have noticed that i've been doing some 'as you may have heard' debunking in this post. that's because there is a very huge divide between the beliefs and practices of pet rabbit owners versus show and meat breeders and owners. why? well, that's complicated, but the big bad evil guy that is the first place to point at is the House Rabbit Society, or HRS.

i know this comes off as me having an agenda, and i guess i can't say that i don't, but i believe that the HRS' rules and rhetoric are not just wrong they are actively dangerous to follow. i have owned rabbits for nearly a decade and have produced more somewhere in the 1,500 range of animals in that time. i have owned a LOT of rabbits and have experienced all the different ways they can thrive and die and have done a lot of experimenting to find what works. just about everything the HRS says about caring for rabbits is blatantly false according to my experience. proper wire cage floors do not destroy feet. rabbits do not need hay if they eat a good pelleted diet. pellets are not evil or 'fattening' or the main cause of stasis. rabbits do not need leafy greens or veggies. rabbits do not need to be bonded. they are perfectly happy living alone, in cages. flipping a rabbit is not torture and is in fact sometimes necessary for many reasons. meat and show breeders are generally not contributing to the 'overpopulation' problem - if we don't want an animal most of us just eat them. breeding for meat is not evil if it's done appropriately and they are killed humanely.

unfortunately the HRS won the google SEO game and so their website and the sites of others that believe their rhetoric are the only thing that comes up on the first pages of search results. i'm not saying you have to blindly trust me, but i have the experience, and the combined experience of many of my peers both online and offline, that says that basically everything they believe in and preach is just...not true.

D20, aka Dimension 20, is a RPG (mostly D&D) show that you can watch on Dropout (smaller American streaming service, but it has really good content <3), though some seasons are on Youtube!

There are 21 seasons in total so far, but each one is its own campaign (well, except for the 3-4 sequel seasons), which means you can absolutely jump right into a later season and still get what’s going on :] Also the seasons range from 20 episodes to 4, so you don’t always need to find the emotional resolve to sit through 20 2-hours long episodes lol

The fanart you reblogged is of Ayda, a character from Fantasy High, which is basically the poster child of D20 – it was the first season, and it later got two sequel seasons, Sophomore Year (which is the exact one Ayda is from) and Junior Year, the most recent season, as well as two spin-off seasons with locations/characters from its world (Pirates of Leviathan and The Seven (it’s kinda funny actually because I know you���re a PJO fan and, well, I often see posts about it in that season’s tag because of the name X))) Mostly it’s about a bunch of teenagers in a fantasy 80s-esque high school trying to solve mysteries and going on adventures!

Fantasy High is not my personal favorite, however – the medal of honor goes to A Court of Fey and Flowers and Mentopolis, respectively the "fey regency/romance" season and the "Inside Out but as a film noir" season <3 But there’s plenty I love!! There’s a space opera season, a "Game of Thrones but with food" season, a heist season, a furry murder mystery season, a fairytale horror season… the list goes on! It even featured a bunch of drag queens on a season :D

Nowadays, Marinette and Adrien rarely slept in. They were constantly going with work and life, but they decided to treat themselves today by getting extra sleep. The rebrand is almost complete, meaning both Adrien and Marinette will get to breathe for a few days. The main stuff was done, like the website, displays, tags, and business cards, among other smaller things.

He was getting a little nervous, but excited, as the final day got closer. They planned a fashion show to truly ring in the new era of Agreste Fashion, now called Emilie's, with Marinette and her team's line as the first official Emilie's line. They also reworked some fan-favorite clothing to make them fit the brand better while getting rid of Gabriel's name. It was going to be an exciting day, seeing the old and the new mix together. But there were still a few weeks until that day; there was still work to be done.

However, it was Saturday, and both Marinette and Adrien decided they could have a few extra hours of sleep. Adrien rolled out of bed earlier than Marinette and went to the kitchen to start breakfast. It was nothing crazy, just some eggs, because they agreed to stop by their favorite bakery to see her parents and enjoy a well-deserved macaron. Or two.

Marinette followed him into the kitchen when she smelled the eggs, her hair still unbrushed and in her pajamas. "Smells good, Adrien," She yawned.

"I'm glad. Time for a quick breakfast so we can go see your parents," He said as he slid the plate over to her seat.

Marinette nodded and took a bite. "You know, I was thinking," She said, carefully. "I wanted to put up a video like we used to do. Maybe we could vlog our day, or at least some of it? One of our first days in a long time that we haven't been so busy with work. Heck, I don't think either of us has had a day out of the office in at least two weeks."

A big smile formed on Adrien's face. "I think that's a great idea, Mari!" He hopped up and walked to the corner of the living room that had Marinette's desk. He grabbed her camera battery off the charger, then her camera bag, and brought it back over. Marinette would have gotten it herself, but sometimes, Adrien beats her to it.

She thanked him for the camera as she got her settings flipped to the right ones, then held it up. "Hi! I'm Marinette!" She waved at the camera, with Adrien waving behind her. "I know I look like a mess right now, but on our day off, we wanted to vlog! It's been so long since I've done a video like this, so I'm excited to give you guys some insight on how we've been recently."

"I made eggs," Adrien held his place up with a big grin when Marinette paused.

"And they're lovely, thank you, Adrien," Marinette admired. He set his plate back down, clearly proud of himself.

"Well, we're going to finish breakfast, then head over to our favorite bakery in the world! I'm sure we'll check back in then," Adrien said, Marinette nodding with him, and she shut the camera off.

Marinette and Adrien finished their eggs quickly and got their morning routines done. They were out the door by eleven o'clock, which to most people meant they barely slept in, but sleeping past eight was glorious for them.

Marinette got the camera back out when they were in the car. It wasn't too far of a drive to get to her parent's, but it was just long enough that the car was needed, and she had some time to talk to her camera. "We're in the car now, and let me just say, my stomach has been aching for some sweets recently. We've been so busy we haven't had time to go get anything other than what's in our fridge or the late-night store around the corner from Emilie's," Marinette rambled.

"Well, when we get to work at six or seven in the morning, and we stay past dinner time, we don't have the time to go there, and most other places are closed when we head out," Adrien said. "Don't get me wrong, I love what we're doing, but it sure is tiring."

"Once the rebrand is done, hopefully we'll have a more normal schedule," Marinette said. "Long days, but it'll be worth it."

Adrien agreed. They continued rambling about work all the way until they parked near the bakery. It had only been a few weeks since she last saw her parents, but it was always nice to see them and talk about life, no matter how long it had been. Her parents tried to stuff them full of all kinds of sweets while listening to Marinette talk about how excited and exhausted she was about her team's line, and Adrien talked about how pleased he is with changing the brand to remember his mom. They had front row seats to the fashion show, and couldn't wait to see it all come alive.

Marinette did record some of her parents and the bakery, but they just talked most of the time. They closed for lunch, so there was all the time they needed before Marinette and Adrien had to leave; well, they didn't want the bakery to be closed for the whole day.

They ran a few errands, like grabbing a few groceries, and Marinette can never resist picking up some swatches when they pass her favorite store. They checked out a few shops that should have received the new displays and were able to see them getting set up.

What was truly special, though, was their evening. They ordered a pizza for a movie night so they could fully relax. Plagg snacked on his cheese while Tikki sat in her little bed on the table so Marinette and Adrien could finish setting up. Marinette walked over to the hidden safe in the closet and opened it, pulling out the special box. She set it on the coffee table and opened it, letting all the Kwamis out to play.

Usually, she tries to let them out at least once a week. But with them being so busy lately, it has been a lot less. The Kwamis love her and Adrien and understand; they're just excited to come out to see them and Plagg and Tikki, and they were even more excited to hear about movie night. A strange idea to their magical creatures, but they all seemed to love it all the same. Though they did miss Trixx, Pollen, and Wayzz, the rest of them knew they were having a good time with their masters, and they were able to enjoy themselves.

Marinette scrolled through the streaming services to find the perfect movie while all the Kwamis got comfortable around the couch and little pet beds. As she waited for Adrien to come back from the kitchen with pizza boxes and their drinks, she pulled out her camera for one last update to their vlog.

"Well, here we are to end the night! Adrien and I are relaxing with a movie and pizza, and it's a great way to end our first full day off. It's a nice break, but I'm excited to get back to work. Can't wait for all of you to see what we've been working on!" She said. Marinette was extra thankful that Kwamis are not visible on camera, because it would have looked crazy with all the little animals sat around her.

"I can't either!" Adrien popped in, setting the food on the table, then kissing Marinette's cheek. "This was fun; we should make more videos when we have time."

"I would love it, and I'm sure they would, too," Marinette gestured to the camera. "But that's it for today. Make sure to follow us in the description and be ready for some more videos, hopefully soon!" Marinette said, and both of them waved as she ended the recording. She would have to find time to edit it, maybe tomorrow before work.

Marinette and Adrien began digging into the pizza as she pressed play on the movie; both she and Adrien cuddled up to one another, all the Kwamis filled in around them.

As always, she was ecstatic to see some of the replies on the video. It was one of the things she missed most about not uploading as often.

The Leica M10 Review

…yes I know it’s 2020 and it’s late

This review was a long time coming since I had originally planned on writing this review last Spring. It was during that time when I was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to pick up a second-hand Leica M10 in black from a fellow forum member in exchange for two of my lenses at the time (Summilux 35mm FLE and the Summicron 50mm V5). Was it worth selling my M240 at the time and trading off two lenses for the M10?

Before I continue with this review, I should caveat by saying that this is my second M10 as I sold the first one during the first draft of this review last year after my trip from Miami and Key West. I had sold it over the summer because I didn’t feel the premium wasn’t worth it to me, therefore I had sold it off and picked up a mint silver chrome M-P 240 which I loved and took it several trips with me.

Fast forward to 2020, an opportunity had come up for an M10 while I was at the gym one morning. I was catching up on Leica things during a break (as you do) and I had found a silver chrome M10 for sale for a price that was hard to pass up. A price so good, that I had completely stopped working out and went into full-time stalker mode with the seller on securing the purchase via text message. After less than 5 minutes of communicating back and forth, we had agreed on a price and a successful transaction was made.

I said farewell my beloved M-P (Typ 240) as it sold in less than a day to a gentleman in Texas. You were the best iteration of the best value digital Leica M camera, but how does the M10 compare and do I still think it was worth the money to upgrade?

Introduction

When the M10 was first introduced in January 2017, it was a cause for celebration as reviews sang their praises as the ‘best Leica yet’ while commenting on its new 24 megapixel sensor paired with the latest Maestro II processor, a bigger viewfinder magnification with better eye-relief, a body that is as slim as the M7 film camera, a new manual ISO dial and what is this?

They’ve removed video recording!

Nobody cared. Moving on.

Not only did Leica giveth and taketh away with the M10, but they had also made the camera significantly more simplified compared to its predecessor. Leica’s new devotion to minimalism that could be seen back in 2015 with the introduction of the Leica Q, transferred over to the M10 as the camera now has less buttons, removed any superfluous menu options which led to a more structured and cleaner menu system. They even changed the power switch so that it only does one thing now: On or Off. This is a big deal as the Leica Q had a problem with some users accidentally switching to “Continuous” as the power switch had the tendency to go full-auto. Minute changes like these is what legendary products need. Nothing drastic, but incremental improvements.

Look at every new iteration of the the Porsche 911. It’s not the same car, but just improved.

As the difference in technology between the M240 (2012) and the M10 (2017) span 5 years, the improvements of the M10 can be noticed instantly with its new slimmer profile when you pick it up for the first time. While the M240 wasn’t a big camera compared to other full-frame cameras, but if you compared Leica’s other rangefinders, the M240 was a thicc boy. After a few weeks of getting reacquainted with the M10 again, I felt that the M10 is just like any other Leica: it’s more than the sum of its parts and more about its evolution rather than revolution. That’s why, at least currently, it’s the best digital iteration of Leica’s fabled rangefinder (until the M11).

Build & Design

The M10’s new slimmer body and lighter weight compared to the M240 was very obvious and noticeable to me. As your right thumb rub against the right corner of the body next to the exposure dial, you’ll also notice the new paint finish as Leica had decided to use matte/chrome treated paint compared to the previous “black paint” finish in the previous gens. I personally prefer the black paint finish as the lacquer paint would fade over time, showing the dull gold glow of the brass underneath. This brassing gave the camera a nice patina, like a worn leather jacket after years of use.

Brassing on a Leica M240

I believe that Leica did this intentionally to give the camera a more timeless look as the brassing would give the camera an aged look over time, but I feel that the patina brings out the character of the camera. With each worn paint on different parts of the body, there is a story that comes with it. The new chrome paint finish will not age as gracefully, as it will just dull over the time, losing its matte luster to just a shiny sheen of metal.

Tough as Nails

Just because the M10 doesn’t brass like its predecessors, doesn’t the camera feels cheap. The components are still machined from solid brass and magnesium alloy chassis, holding in all the components in such a small body. Nothing about the build quality is different with the M10 and they are still built to same high standards. Don’t let the smaller size of the M10 fool you either as the weight between the M240 and the M10 are almost identical (1.46 lbs vs. 1.50 lbs).

Leica may not openly advertise this, but the body is weather-sealed against light precipitation and dust.

Refined Shutter

The shutter sound is definitely quieter and more refined than the M240, but the feel is about the same. Half press locks the exposure and full press releases the shutter with a refined “click”. I can’t explain the sound, but it feels slightly muffled compared to the M240. It’s definitely quieter than the M9’s robo-sex doll shutter cock sound, but I kind of like that as that’s part of the M9’s many charms.

I can’t speak for the shutter feel on the M10-P or M10-D as I don’t have any experience with them yet, but they have the quietest mechanical curtain shutters. Maybe one day I’ll pick one up (actually I know I’ll have one in the future).

Diamonds are Forever

Most of the back panel is dominated by a 3-inch TFT LCD monitor which has 1,036,800 dots and can display 16 million colors in addition to providing 100% frame coverage during live view. The difference in resolution between the M240 and the M10 may not be noticeable, at least to me, but the difference in contrast is very apparent. It’s also years ahead of the M9, which is only useful for checking exposure as it has the same screen quality of a GameBoy.

The LCD glass screen itself deserves its own paragraph as it’s sporting the latest Gorilla Glass, specifically developed for this camera by Corning. While the glass feel strong and strudy, I personally question its durability compared to the Leica M-P’s (Typ 240) more robust and exotic sapphire glass. Something that Leica had also omitted from the M10-P and M10-D. This is a big difference as sapphire glass is borderline industructible by conventional means, which is why it’s used on high-end watches that can only be scratched by diamonds. I wouldn’t be surprised if the M10’s screen is very similar to the Leica Q.

Balanced

Lastly, the body feels more balanced due to better weight distribution between the front and rear of the body if you hold the camera up by just the strap with a lens attached. This is one of the major benefits of the M10’s slimmer body as it pairs perfectly with compact lenses like the Summicron 35mm ASPH or the Voigtlander Ultron 35mm. This may not seem like a big deal, but weight distribution is counts if you want to pull some weight off your left hand, relieving some pressure off your fingers as you focus.

User Experience

There is something to be said about the user experience of a thinner, faster, and more accurate Leica rangefinder, especially with its improved eye relief for people with glasses. Compared to the M240, there are some noticeable improvements.

Pin-Point Accuracy

The new viewfinder has a magnification of .73x compared to the M240’s .68x magnification. This may not seem much, but that is a big difference when you’re looking inside a tiny window and you’ll notice it right away when you’re focusing your lenses. It’s much easier to nail a sharp focus and with fast lenses, this is a big improvement. By just walking around with the Voigtlander Ultron 35/1.7 ASPH I had at the time, I noticed that I was nailing focus with very little to no micro-adjustments to get a sharp focus patch. That means there is one less thing to worry about on getting a sharp focus. The second one being the quality of your eye sight to see the patch clearly.

This new viewfinder can also be a double-edged sword for those that wear glasses as composing with 28mm or 36mm lenses will have a more difficult time to compose since the eye-relief, while is improved, it’s still not ideal for glasses.

Simplified Menu System

Leica had released a firmware update in 2018, which introduced the Favorites Menu that was brought over from the Leica Q. A very handy upgrade since it no longer required you to dive into the 2.5 pages of menus to change something as simple as White Balance. These are mostly quality of life improvements and once you set up your menu settings, you will very rarely ever go back in terms of shooting experience as I have everything that I need on the body of the camera: ISO, Aperture, Shutter. The dials feels solid and tactile, as you would expect from a Leica.

Carry Spares

The battery life will be a hit for people as the Leica M10’s BP-SCL5  battery has 1300 mAh of charge, which is noticeably smaller than the M240’s 1600 mAh battery. The difference of 300 mAh may not seem much and you should be able to hit 300 photos on one battery if you don’t use Live View (or EVF), but this is a far cry from the M240’s BP-SCL2 battery as a single one of those guys would last me all weekend.

Thumbs Up

The exposure compensation dial is just where it needs to be like the M240, but the Leica M10 has a slight curvature on the left side of the dial that acts as a pseduo thumb rest. Doesn’t seem like much, but it makes a noticeable difference in ergonomics, especially on a slimmer body like the M10. I still ended up buying a OEM Leica thumb grip and I recommend it wholeheartedly as we all know that Leica cameras were built for Lego people.

Big Brains

The MAESTRO II processor is quick and depending on the Read/Write speed of your SD card, it’s as quick as the Leica Q on writing those DNG files. It’s capable of taking 5 shots per second on continuous which is impressive for a M camera. 

Wi-Fi is Lo-Fi

The built-in Wi-Fi feature is nice to have, but I doubt I’ll ever use it as my dedicated source of raw transfers since I prefer to use the SD card to transfer photos via iPad Pro or on the PC. The app itself is cumbersome and the transfer speeds are abysmally slow. To make matter worse, using the Wi-Fi feature absolutely destroys your battery life.

Things I Don’t Like

Despite all these improvements, not everything is perfect with the M10. This may be the best digital Leica M camera to date, but there are a couple of issues I want to point out as they were noticeable that prevented the camera from winning over me completely.

Double Thumbs

The buttons on the back are big and easy to use, but it will take some time to get used to getting around the menu system if you’re coming from the M240…especially when you want to delete a photo.

You first have to press the “PLAY” button, which is one of the three primary buttons on the back, then press “MENU” to bring up the delete option since there is no dedicated delete button anymore. Then once you do that, you have to use the center button on the D-Pad to confirm your choice (what would be the INFO button on the M240). It’s not very intuitive but neither was the M240’s use of the “SET” button on the left. This is a minor issue as you’ll get use to it after a couple of days.

That ISO Dial

The new ISO dial on the left of side of the camera was one of the defining features of the M10 and while it is nice to have, I personally think it’s highly overrated. To change the ISO, you need to lift the switch up to unlock it (which surprisingly takes a bit of effort with your left fingers) and then turn the dial to your desired ISO settings, then press the dial back down until it snaps in to lock the ISO dial. I’m not of fan of this effort of using the ISO dial and practically impossible with gloves on.

I personally leave the dial unlocked and upright position while I’m shooting without the fear of accidentally bumping the dial to the wrong settings since theres enough resistance to stay in place. The constant adjustments to the ISO dial will require you to alter your grip a lot when it’s in locked position.

Also, good luck using the ISO dial in the dark as you can’t see anything. At least on the previous M240, you could easily manipulate the ISO on the LCD screen while turning the exposure compensation dial.

Overall, I think they just should have made the dial more tactile to reduce the chance of accidentally bumping the dial, a la Fujifilm X-Pro3. It’s a cool feature but I hated using it and I promise you that this feature will either be revised or removed in the next generation Leica M11 body.

The Options List

This should come to no surprise to anyone as Leica anything is expensive, but I want to point out that the accessories for the Leica M10 are noticeably more expensive than the M240. Par for the course, but here is the breakdown in costs for my recommended accessories.

Leica Thumb Grip – $240

Leica BP-SCL5 Batteries – $190 (however, cheaper than the M240 batteries)

Periscope

This is a WTF moment for me and for those that need GPS coordinates baked into their DNG files. If you want this feature, it’s only available if you use the optional Leica Visoflex EVF which costs a cool $600, which is odd to me. I never used or cared about this feature but it made me raise an eyebrow.

Image Quality

It’s strange to categorize the quality of the image output from a camera body, so I guess you can call this part the sensor’s characteristics.

The overall fidelity and tonality produced by the Leica M10 is excellent and while it may not win any DXO scores because Leica couldn’t give a shit about winning sensor awards, the overall output is absolutely beautiful. This is also very dependent on the type of glass you put in front of the sensor, but to keep things consistent, I’ve used both the 35mm and 50mm Summicron lenses to get a good reading on how the M10 likes to paint its pictures.

The M10’s DNG files have noticeable bump in saturation, and contrast straight out of camera when you upload them into Lightroom. Compared to the DNG files from the Leica Q, the output from the M10 is consistently more “colorful” with a hint of warmer tones. Another underrated improvement over its predecessor is the the white balance. How the M10 figures out its white balance is a big improvement as it is definitely more accurate compared to the M240’s yellowish tint.

The dynamic range is actually pretty good based on my experience in Lightroom. You can pull several stops on both highlights and shadows without destroying the file, and it should be satisfactory as long as you don’t expect Sony levels of dynamic range.

This doesn’t mean that you should be lazy on setting your exposure before taking the photo because a good baseline photo in RAW is much more preferable than trying to salvage your mistakes in post. A good rule of thumb is to underexpose my photos just a little bit to save the highlights during your tricky in/out lighting situations.

Expose for those highlights

This photo was heavily underexposed but the dynamic range headroom on the M10 allowed me to pull up the shadows while maintaining micro-contrast. The windows are actually looking inside the factory floor with the flood lights and not actually looking outside.

In Summary

What Leica had done here was to take a successful formula and make minor improvements to an already successful camera, but doing this also risked alienating fans. This is a known problem with any manufacturer that have a rabid fanbase with a long history (a la Porsche 911). When Leica developed the M10, it took some risks with some of these changes, but it’s easy to see that Leica went back to what they were very good and just made improvements to their existing core strengths. They understood who their base customers were and listened. It simplified the camera to its basics (it has three menu buttons for crying out loud) and took video out. While most DSLR and Mirrorless photographers will laugh at the idea of taking stuff out but charging the same price (if not more) for such a “low-tech” camera, this is not what Leica is about.

They cater to the niche and not the masses – something they’ve been doing for a long time and longer than any manufacturer.

M10 vs. M240

Now, some of you on the fence of purchasing a Leica M10 may be asking yourself if this camera was worth the upgrade over the M240?

Yes and No. Let me explain.

I came from a background of owning the following Leica cameras chronologically.

Leica M9 (Black),

Leica M9 (Steel Gray),

Leica M240 (Silver),

Leica M10 (Black),

Leica M-P 240 (Silver),

Leica M10 (Silver).

So I’ve been around the block and back and I feel as though I have some experience on this topic and for the most part, I would say no, it’s not worth the upgrade in my opinion. While the M10’s improvements are tangible, I don’t feel as though the incremental improvements are worth the premium. For example…

While the ISO dial is great, M240 owners can just as easily change their settings using the rear LCD and rear dial.

The improved viewfinder is wonderful and the magnification is great, but if you shoot between 35mm-50mm lenses, you won’t really notice it too much.

The battery life is worse on the M10.

The M240 is thicker than the M10, but I don’t think you’ll notice the difference when you’re out in the real world taking photos, especially if you use a thumb grip for both.

The improved LCD screen is nice, but I never looked at the M240’s screen and thought it was crap in 2020.

ISO Performance – if you’re not Batman and prowl the street at night often and don’t shoot a lot in low light, this is hard to justify.

This is how I feel after owning the two cameras (twice) back to back, but it’s ultimately up to you if you feel that it’s worth it to you. Otherwise, the M10 is the best digital M camera that you can get right now. With the predictable upgrades without changing the primary formula of what made the Leica M so great, it makes you wonder what the future holds for the next Leica M as we’re going to be due for an upgrade in 2022.

2019 December 23-28 Circadian Rhythm Solstice Retrograde

1-year goal: Negative rep size, positive flex shape? am oxygen intensive on slow push day. Eat less to cut, or only when you're hungry. Welcome to hell. 

1-year plan: (1:4) Heavy push, small sets of average weight amount, quick rep without lock or flare, controlling the negative/descension, a tension or calisthenic resistance. Adjust weight or rack between reps. (2:4) Lite pull, larger sets of volumization 2-3 more reps on avg, slow rep that channels/recruits muscle, controlling the flex and negative reps fast so the weight/bar allows the muscle to take a gulp of bloodstream/circulation. Going at this with light resistance, each rep will pump b/c the release is less than a second. (3:4) Heavy legs, hard to do slow squats with quick ups, so machines or cables will help stabilize new movements. (4:4) Lite push, vice versa. Heavy pull, vice versa. Lite legs, vice versa. 

Theory: Holiday was Tues & Wed, and already (Sunday) feeling toning during recuperation. Resistance/negatives for size, force production/pumping for active recovery. Light volume slow upward bodybuilding. Heavy resistance quick upward to protect tendons. Will see if herbivore a.m. and carnivore p.m. is sustainable, let alone possible. 

Projection: I expect to stretch new-t-shirts by April confident prediction. As for cutting body-fat, give me six months to get under 10%. The key for me, possibly mesomorph, is to carb-load in the morning, not overeat, just eating like vegans for the one or two meals, going to the gym, eating meat afterwards. Soy sauce egg burrito is kinda-sorta. Cardio is going to train your stamina, improve your myocardial function. For me to lose weight I have to only eat when I’m hungry, and if I have to eat when I’m not hungry, go easy on the carbs - and adhering to the morning/evening diet plan. That’s partial ketosis and ketoacidosis, you can eat zero-carbs or follow a ketogenic diet, but it’s -ic/-ish, ketogenic, not biologic ketogenesis of lipids into lantern fuel. Eating too abundant protein will create bodyfat also, not just from carbs. More important to answer hunger instead of panic eating, cheat meals will become a thing of the past. 

The hard part is not eating when I’m full, and not skipping meals before the gym because of my schedule. So decided to log a few categories of madness, totally unrelated to the gym, and will link later. LLAP. January is here, get ready for the crowd that’ll be gone by the ides of March, when we ...march. That must be some sorta typo.

Fitness-Journey

So - 01/01/2020 

This is it. Every year. #Newyearresolutions are made and for most people they end up unsuccessful and get renewed. Same here. 

But maybe not this year. 

I felt uncomfortable in my body for years now, struggeling to gain muscles and weight in general. I always tried and attacked it, sometimes more, sometimes less effective, but never leading to what I set out to achieve. 

This year I will try to get my dream-weight!!!  90 kg/  198 lbs. That`s a weight difference of 11,05 kg / 24 pounds. For most people this probably sound like an easy task, but I hate eating! 

Obviously I want myself in great shape, so just eating a lot won’t cut it.

I do play american football in Europe, lower leagues, “Free-Safety” position. But one or two training sessions per week are just not doing it all. 

I will update pictures of myself (Full Body) once a month, starting today. I will also upload pictures of different improvements I achieve.

THIS IS TO KEEP ME MOTIVATED. I AM MAKING MYSELF UNCOMFORTABLE TO FORCE ME TO GETTING BETTER.

How Big Do German Shepherds Get?

Before I adopted Daisy, a Brittany, I was planning on getting a German Shepherd.

What changed my mind was the size. Not because I didn’t know how big they got, but due to misinformation regarding the townhouse I was planning on buying.

So, it was either I backed out of the purchase of the house or get a different dog breed.

Well, we all know how that ended.

Even though I never got a German Shepherd, my best friend did. She and her husband bought a white German Shepherd from a breeder, and though he’s a fantastic dog, he’s also huge and quite protective.

I’ve had the good fortune to watch him grow and develop from a silly eight-week-old puppy into the very intelligent three-year-old adult he is now.

Even though I personally don’t have a German Shepherd I still think they are amazing dogs, but I also believe they take a lot of work to train and maintain.

Because German Shepherds are such large and powerful dogs, special care is required during their developmental period.

Stages of German Shepherd Puppy Development

Neonatal Period: Birth – 2 Weeks

When German Shepherd puppies are born, they are entirely dependent on their mothers.

The puppies come into this world both blind and deaf and require their mother to provide everything from sustenance to assistance relieving themselves.

During the first week of a puppies life their weight can double or even triple[1]. The average weight gain for puppies is between 10%-15% gain per day.

The first two weeks are a quiet time for the puppies as they spend about ninety percent of their time sleeping, and the other ten percent feeding from their mother.

Towards the end of the first week, the puppies begin to open their eyes and ears, and by the conclusion of week two, the puppies should be able to see and hear fully.

In addition to them opening their ears and eyes, puppies begin to develop their incisors, and begin to move around on their own unsteadily.

By the end of week two, the puppies will begin to acknowledge its littermates and begin to interact with one another.

During this time the puppies will benefit from frequent gentle handling by humans. It’s never too early to start socializing German Shepherd puppies.

Socialization Period: 3 Weeks – 12 Weeks

Between the third and fourth week, puppies will begin to eat solid food, but will still need their mother’s milk.

During this time, their milk teeth will begin to come in.

Week three is a very significant time in a puppy’s life, as this is when their socialization skills and emotional development begins.

The puppies will be more engaged in puppy play with their siblings and will start to be more independent from their mother.

Also, during week three, connections between humans and puppies begin to form.

It is crucial that the puppies receive a lot of positive interactions with humans during this time. While socializing puppies with humans, be sure to include people of different ages, heights, genders, and ethnicities.

In addition to humans, this is also a good time to slowly and safely introduce other animals such as cats or other pets in the home.

It is absolutely vital that the socialization process be a positive experience. Any negative socialization experiences can cause the puppy to have behavioral challenges in the future.

The importance of socialization does not end after week three; this critical time for puppies extends until they are about eighteen months of age.

During a German Shepherd’s development, they will have different fear periods.

During these periods, puppies may show fearful behaviors towards people, places, objects, or other animals that they had previously been exposed to.

The Critical Fear Periods in Puppies

After week four, housetraining can begin.

This will give a puppy a head start on their training when they reach their new home.

Around the sixth week, puppies may start to show signs of dominance when interacting with their littermates.

Also, by now they should be eating solid food and not require their mother’s milk, but they still need their mother for social development.

Up until they are eight weeks old, puppies are all about playing with littermates and exploring their surroundings.

It is important that puppies not be taken from their mother too early, since it is a crucial socialization time for them.  If taken from their mothers too soon they may have lower bite inhibitions and struggle to understand canine social cues.

Juvenile Period: 3 Months – 6 Months

Puppies will have all of their milk teeth by the time they are three months old, and will start to lose them in their fourth month.

However, the puppies will have all of their adult teeth when they are around six months old.

The juvenile period is an excellent period to enroll your puppy into puppy classes where they will continue to develop socialization skills and start basic obedience.

Puppy classes are also a useful resource for learning how to properly deal with the normal day to day challenges puppies bring into your life, such as housetraining issues and biting.

Towards the end of the six months, puppies will have reached sexual maturity.

If you choose to spay your female German Shepherd, it is recommended to do so before six months of age to decrease the risk of joint disorders[3].

My Weight Loss Journey: How Intermittent Fasting Worked for ME

I was never skinny. At least not as skinny as I wanted to be. I was very insecure about my weight.

I remember I was in Thailand in 2013. Most of 7-Eleven stores had this weighing scale by the door where you can slot in a baht coin and it will tell you how much you weigh.

I was outside a 7-Eleven, waiting for my then-boyfriend to get something from the store. I stepped on the scale and put 1 baht in the coin slot. All of a sudden, the screen of the weighing scale lit up as if I won in a casino slot machine and it started playing a song (you know, the kind of song that you hear when you lift the receiver on a Chinese telephone toy) and then it "shouted" how I weigh.

It said I was 150lbs.

In. Full. Volume.

It was embarrassing but I know I might just be paranoid that people around were staring at me. But still, it was embarrassing.

I am 5’3” and for that height, I was slightly overweight. To make things worse, I felt like all weight was garnered in my tummy area. And for someone who was traveling around Southeast Asia, mostly on beach destinations, I was very insecure being surrounded by lean westerners in their bikinis.

I hated looking in the mirror and getting photographed by other people because I always felt ugly and fat.

That changed when my ex and I broke up.

Yes, it sounds cliché, but I decided to lose weight not because I was heartbroken, but because I started to get more time for myself; on top of the fact that I no longer had a boyfriend who eats unhealthy food with me.

Within 8 months, I lost 30 lbs. I stopped eating sugary food, eat less oily, and went to the gym at least 5 days a week.

A lot of things changed in my life; like I was a completely different person.

My confidence skyrocketed.

I felt healthier; happier.

Then, like many people who went through the same journey, I stopped maintaining my lifestyle. Mainly because I was lazy.

Going to the gym become rarer and cheat days become more frequent. Although I still not drink soda and any sugary drink, I started eating more often than I already used to.

I regained half of what I initially lost.

The new journey starts here...

One day, I was watching this movie called, Jungle, starred by Daniel Radcliffe.

In the movie – which was based on a real-life event – his character survived three weeks without eating after getting lost in the Amazon forest. And then I thought, maybe if I won’t eat I’ll get skinny! No shit, Sherlock! But I didn’t want to be unhealthy. Also, who am I kidding? That’s going to be so difficult! I couldn't do that.

Out of curiosity, I browsed on YouTube to see if there are people who actually fasted for that long and how it affects the body if you do so. I saw this guy who did not eat anything for 30 days – he only drank water. He lost a lot of weight. But as you probably suspected, many people suggested how risky that venture was.

Then, a suggested video about intermittent fasting popped out. I did not know anything about it.

I watched it and learned how beneficial it is for the body.

But what is intermittent fasting?

Basically, it is an eating pattern where you cycle between periods of eating and fasting.

There are many types of intermittent fasting, 16:8 being the most popular. This type of IF means you will NOT eat within a 16-hour period and have 8-hour food window. Some people do 12:12.

There’s no specific rule on what time you must start fasting and what food you should eat and not eat.

However, I start fasting at 9 PM and start eating again at 1 AM the next day.

I use this app called Zero. It helps me track my progress and sends me a notification when I finished a fasting period.

This is my one-week progress.

PS. I also weightlift 4 days a week when I did this.

Brooke Houts: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Brooke Houts is a YouTuber and actress who has come under fire for raw footage of a video she was making with her Doberman, Sphinx, in which she appears to hit him and then spit on him.

Houts has since given a statement on the backlash and accidental video upload, in which she said in part, “I want to clarify that I am NOT a dog abuser or animal abuser in any way, shape, or form.”

An LAPD media representative confirmed to The Verge that the Animal Cruelty unit has launched an investigation. The rep said, “Our Animal Cruelty Task Force has received numerous complaints about the video you’re speaking of and we are currently looking into the matter.”

The controversy began when Houts accidentally uploaded a video of raw footage on August 6, which shows her smacking her dog, pinning him to the ground and shouting “NO!”

The video was quickly taken down and replaced with the more polished cut, but many had already seen it by the time she took it down. You can still see the footage in the video under fact #1. She has also now taken down the edited version of the plastic wrap prank video.

Here’s what you need to know about Houts:

In a tweet on August 6, Houts addressed the controversy head on, via a series of screenshots of a statement she appeared to write on the Notes app. She also wrote the same statement in a comment on the YouTube video (as seen below) where the uncut footage originate from. The statement reads,

Anything I say isn’t going to make those who believe I’m a bad person stop believing that, and I’m aware of this. I apologize to anyone who has been effected negatively by the footage. First off, I want to address the uncut footage. On the day in particular that the video was filmed, and actually this past week, things in my outside life have been less than exceptional. I am not going to play the “victim card” or anything of that sort, but I do want to point out that I am rarely as upset as what was shown in the footage. The bubbly, happy-go-lucky Brooke that you often see in my videos is typically an accurate representation of me, but it’s obvious that I’m playing up my mood in this video when I’m clearly actually frustrated.

That being said, this does NOT justify me yelling at my dog in the way that I did, and I’m fully aware of that. Should I have gotten as angry as I did in the video? No. Should I have raised my voice and yelled at him? No. However, when my 75 lb. Doberman is jumping up in my face with his mouth open, I do, as a dog parent, have to show him that this behavior is unacceptable. But I want to make it known, REGARDLESS of what my dog does, I should not have acted that way towards him.

I want to clarify that I am NOT a dog abuser or animal abuser in any way, shape, or form. Anyone who has witnessed or heard true animal abuse will be able to clearly see that. My dog, in no way, shape, or form was hurt by any action that I displayed in this video. I know people are going to say “you don’t know how he really feels” and this is true. But if he was audibly and physically in pain, it would be a different story. I also did NOT spit on my dog, but I understand how it could look like I did. Did I get in his face and take unnecessary actions towards him? Yes I did, and that was not the way I should’ve handled the situation. Did I spit on my dog? No.

My family and I are in the process of getting him training. The training that I have been looking at for him is VERY expensive, because it’d have to be 1-on-1 with a trainer. Ever since he was attacked at the dog park, he isn’t okay with being around other dogs. He sticks to me like velcro if he is in the presence of another dog, even a little chihuahua. I just can’t see him getting what he needs from a group training environment. That being said, I know I personally can learn more effective techniques to get his energy out and keep him disciplined as well.

Anyone who knows me personally knows I have an immense love for animals, including my own. I would never do anything to purposefully physically or mentally harm any animal. Again, I should NOT have yelled at him or have been as physically aggressive as I was, and I’m fully aware of that. He was not hurt, nor has he ever been purposefully hurt by me. I know I’ll be in many future situations where he’s being physical, but I will not respond this way again.

Family or friends that have spent any amount of time with Sphinx and me know that we have a trusting, loving relationship. All he wants to do is be by my side, cuddle with me, and be around me, which I love. My love for him is exponential and infinite, and I do everything I can in my day-to-day life to ensure that he is living as happily as he can. I’m sorry that my actions in that particular moment did not reflect that.

About my twitter- I deactivated my account earlier in the day. When I went to open it, I was met with an excess of notifications of people telling me I’m messed up, a bad person, that I’m going to hell, that I belong in jail, etc. For my own mental health, and no other reason besides that, I didn’t think it was necessary for me to be reading those comments at that time. Lastly, I don’t want to make this statement seem like it’s me defending myself, because that is not my goal. I do want to point out what ACTUALLY happened though. My intent by explaining the situation is to give those of you who are rightfully angry with me the explanation that you deserve. I am getting my dog into training, and I’m looking at ways to improve how I personally train him at home. I am sorry that you guys had to watch that footage and were upset by it, and I’m sorry to my dog for raising my voice and acting aggressively.

In my heart and from the words of the people that spend the most time with me, I know that I am a great dog mom (but not perfect), that I spoil him in the best ways, that he gets all the treats he could ever want, and that the Amazon Prime mailman is probably tired of delivering packages of dog toys to my house. Again, this does not make my actions in the footage okay, but I’m just explaining what my day-to-day life is really like, whether you believe me or not.

Houts has a popular YouTube channel; she boasts over 339,000 subscribers, and routinely uploads videos. The video she was filming that led to the alleged dog abuse, “Plastic wrap prank on my doberman!,” was taken down on August 7. The video had over 138,000 views. The caption for the video read, “Hey guys! Me & me favorite dog ever are here to bring you a plastic wrap prank lol, this is probably the shortest video to ever go up on my channel but I hope you like it!!! Let us know if you wanna see more pranks 🐶🖤”

Many users have since commented on that video, condemning her behavior with her dog. One user wrote, “I have seen a few of your videos with Sphinx and from the beginning I’ve felt that you don’t understand what the breed needs. But I’ve tried to not be judgmental beforehand since you sometimes have mentioned that you do train him. But then I saw the video where you show how you train him.”

Another user wrote, “Imagine beating your dog for trying to show love and affection 😒”

But disini gue pengen sharing tentang hal penting yang mungkin bakal memotivasi lo pada yak ...soo here we go !

Ngedapetin beasiswa ternyata ga semudah yang gue kira, ini adalah cerita perjalanan gue ngedapetin beasiswa yang banyak ngalamin kegagalan...ibaratnya kalo Ridwan Kamil bilang ‘roller coaster’ ya emang bener...Cuma di perjalanan gue roller coaster nya malah off the road gitu trus eror dan jatoh ke tanah bertubi-tubi!

Awal perjalanan gue untuk mulai serius buat ngedapetin beasiswa dimulai di akhir 2015 yakni bulan Desember, Masyitoh salah satu sahabat gue yang dapet beasiswa LPDP buat ke University of Birmingham di UK adalah mentor terbaik gue. Waktu itu gue nanya “masy, untuk dapetin beasiswa apa langkah pertama yang harus aku lakuin”, dan Masyitoh cuma ngejawab “ IELTS” lalu kemudian berlalu dengan slow motion ditambah efek-efek angin ala ala FTV gitu....ternyata sebelahnya ada kipas angin -____-

And yes.. persiapan gue adalah IELTS 6.5 ...gue mulai dari bulan desember...ngedaftar les di CILACS UII Demangan, berakhir di Januari (berakhiiiir...di januaaariiii~~~~ Glenn) dan gue ujian bulan Februari tanggal 28. Dalam masa kurun waktu persiapan, gue belajar hampir 5 jam sehari STRAIGHT ! berhenti istirahat cuma buat makan sama sholat plus ngerokok bentar.... soal IELTS yang cambridgde gue lalap abes 1-10 plus 3 kali simulasi ditambah soal soal lain yang gue dapet di internet. Itu aja gue juga nyambi kerja part-time yang kerja nya malah kayak hampir full time dengan boss yang shitty abes... no need to go further about my job yes.

Awal maret gue umroh bareng keluarga gue sambil nunggu hasil IELTS gue keluar....dan gue dapet 6.5 walo writingnya 5.5 but overall 6.5 in the first attempt.

And here is the roughest journey to get scholarship brother/sister!

Gue ngedaftar beasiswa LPDP waktu itu abis dapet LoA conditional dari Australian National University (ANU) yes...singkatannya emang ANU...jadi kalo ditanya interviewer gitu “rencana studi dimana?” ya gue jawab “anu....di ANU bu” hahahaha sumpah gue ga gitu tapi pengen jawab gitu si...

First attempt adalah LPDP karena menurut gue LPDP bisa menjadi turning point of my life gitu...dan berakhir dengan kegagalan....yes...kegagalan pertama gue! Rasanya sedih...iya..banget ....tapi gue ga putus asa man!

Gue berlanjut dengan menjajal beasiswa lainnya yang informasinya gue dapet dari temen temen gue macem Atina yang sekarang dapet beasiswa Stunned di Belanda juga Akhmad Rifky ...the best enemy of my life yang dapet beasiswa LPDP ke Belanda juga disatu kampus sama Atina.

Gue nyobain Chevening, ASEAN-New Zealand, beasiswa Australia yang gue lupa namannya dan berakhir dengan KEGAGALAN... rejection ! dengan email “we are sorry that....”

Even DAAD dan lain sebagainya sampe gue ENEG bikin motivation letter, minta recommendation letter, ngumpulin berkas ini itu scan ini scan itu mondar mandir bolak balik upload file dan lain sebagainya, nungguin pengumuman yang kemudian GAGAL

Disini lo bakal ngerti hati gue yang seakan-akan hancur berkeping-keping... i was thinking like this “ God slams me down to the mud to understand the meaning of struggle”. Pada saat ini gue merasa gue adalah orang yang gagal...gue gagal bikin orang tua gue bangga...gue gagal untuk ngeraih masa depan gue.

But wait....the real pain is only started brother....

Last attempted ...or so i thought it was my last attempt was LPDP for the second time ...dengan universitas yang sama ANU...with better preparation for the interview and after waiting a while the email from LPDP came to my email.....and ..

Muka gue berubah 180 derajad dari yang ceria dan ambisius berubah jadi kayak abis dicium sama dementor ...no happiness !

I need a week to recover from this depression....

And yet...after that....i met one person and before even we do a handshake he shouted “lo gagal LPDP LAGI YA!? HAHAHAHAHAHAA”

Gue masih inget banget tawa kampret bocah ini waktu itu....

Gue Cuma bisa senyum sinis sambil buat boneka voodooo buat nusuk nusukin tu kampret.

Ga berapa lama gue ketrima magang di Good News From Indonesia (GNFI) yang buat gue asique banget...gue akhirnya bisa nulis dan dibaca banyak orang ...menyebarkan artikel positif yang emejing...’

Gue ketemu editor junjungan gue yaitu mba Upik sama mba Dee Dee yang jadi mentor gue selama magang...

Dan disela-sela magang si Bian ...temen gue yang keterima beasiswa Turki udah ngontak-ngontak gue buat apply dan bikin motivation letter nya...

Ini adalah percobaan gue ke 16 dimana banyak beasiswa lain yang gagal dan bahkan gue LUPA apa aja

Hahahahahahahahahhahaa

Kata pak Hilman di buku nya “beasiswa itu kayak jodoh, kita ga tau mana yang jadi jodoh kita”

Sembari menunggu pengumuman beasiswa ini gue dapet banyak cobaan...

Dari orang tua yang hampir hilang kepercayaannya ke gue sampe waktu itu gue diputusin dengan retorika kampret dan ternyata she cheated on me...

Bulan Juli adalah bulan terbaik menurut gue karena....

Ada email yang tiba-tiba masuk ketika gue abis tes Kemlu dan nongki sama Haniza dan Rifky...si rifky sebenernya udah dapet beasiswa ke Russia.

“LPDP, Chevening, DAAD, Australian, ASEAN-New Zealand and many scholarship that i can’t remember. I have cried myself for two days in my room because i feel that i  am a failure for my parent, i can’t make them proud. But now, here I am proving to you what I am capable of and what is my vision. I don’t want to give up because i have nothing left if i do...so this scholarship is very important for me...a turning point. I give you my promise that i will be something in the future, for the world, for my country and Turkey.”

ASELI...waktu jawab ini mata gue udah berkaca-kaca nginget kegagalan gue....i looked  right into the interviewer eyes deeply..

I didn’t know how i can answer like that....but it’s just pure from my heart.

And finally i got the scholarship and will depart this 24th September.

 Moral lesson from my story...that you need to understand.

God is amazing...

Belief in Him....and do the maximum effort.

Struggle is sometimes painful, but it will produce something beautiful....seriously.

Jangan pernah nyerah...karena siapa tau...lo bakal dapet yang lebih dari yang lo pernah harapkan.

 Gue percaya bahwa Allah ga sembarangan ngasih cobaan....

I was slammed deep in the mud of failure and my trust to Him is what makes me get up from that mud.

 Now...i will have a new chapter of life in Turkey!
