Neurodivergent Coding in TBB (‘Good’ vs ‘Bad’)
I believe that all the members of the bad batch could be seen as neurodivergent coded, and if you have any sort of neurodivergence, you will probably see yourself in at least one of them.
I see a lot of myself in Tech, as a lot of us do. When we first see in him in The Clone Wars, he is introduced by rapidly firing off a lot of facts. Something I do a lot in social situations. But, in the same scene, Crosshair is seen hanging back and it takes him the longest to open up and speak, something I do too.
In this arc Crosshair gives his unfiltered opinion, and all he does is state things that he sees as facts. You could make the argument he is fully aware his words will hurt, but he seems pretty surprised when Rex swings for him, so maybe not. (Also, when I first watched the arc, I was kinda thinking what he was thinking about the loyalty thing)
Crosshair is easily hurt and takes things very personally, his alterations give him a skill but unlike the others it’s only one very specific skill, he lacks social nuance and craves order to the point he is incapable of changing his path.
However, in TV there is sort of two types of autistic. ‘Good; cinnamon roll too pure for this earth autistic’ and ‘Bad; weird, there’s something off about him, creepy autistic’. Despite Tech and Crosshair showing very similar traits, especially in their lack of social awareness and penchant for planning and order, they are getting two very different portrayals.
I have my theories why. Tech is the more relatable of the two, chances are people sitting at home aren't elite sniper assassins but we’ve read a couple of Wikipedia pages and can recite a few facts.
This isn't me saying forgive fascists if they are neurodivergent or we can't tell stories in case we accidently code the bad guy. It’s more a look at how differently they are being portrayed and received by audiences.
Why is it when Tech is blunt and hurts people's feelings, he’s a ‘sass queen’ or ‘a poor socially awkward baby’ but when Crosshair is clearly hurting and struggling to understand, he doesn't get the same reception.
We know they do the hero/villain coding thing with physical disabilities and people are cracking down on that, but I think the conversation should be opened to look at neurodivergence as well.

im curious about how at the live event they said pit babe will air before itmbc, but itmbc has been filming for much longer. do you think thats a set decision because there is more anticipation for pb or is there a chance we will see itmbc first
I think it’s a set decision since Change said back in May that ITMBC would take another year of production, and originally they were making it sound like we would get PB sooner than we have. I do wonder if there were delays due to writing (or my mortal nemesis taking five months to film), but regardless I think the plan was always to have Pit Babe air before ITMBC. Nut was also saying months back that he would be working on both at the same time, so I think the overlap in filming schedule was always the plan.
I also think there’s a lot of anticipation for both, but the anticipation for PB comes from within Change’s existing fanbase, which a vocal and money-spending part of the fandom is growing loudly impatient about it (even tho… 15 months between seasons is far from unheard of but like I get it I’m also dying) and delaying it any further would probably cause a lot of them to blow a fuse. Even tho I’m pretty sure GMMTV has shows that had pilots drop in 2023 that still haven’t aired so 🤷‍♂️
On the other hand, I feel like a lot of the expectation for ITMBC comes from the webtoon fanbase which seemed to be pretty harsh on a lot of the pilot. So Change having a long production schedule for ITMBC is not surprising, since it’s something they need to handle carefully. I do feel like, if they execute it well, it could be as big a hit as Pit Babe s1, but I expect them to take their time with it, so if they tried to release it before Pit Babe and the webtoon fandom hated the series, Change would have two angry groups to deal with.
I’m also really curious how scheduling works with period pieces since they’re limited to studio sets + nature (which has its own schedule) and temples I suppose, and they can’t just book a street or hotel lobby to film at on days when the studios are full. But I don’t track period lakorns so I have zero idea what the level of demand is, but it’s something I’ve wondered about in regards to the length of ITMBC’s shoot.
Tbh what really surprises me the most about Time taking up so much room on the schedule is that PoohPavel will have gone over a year with absolutely nothing drama-wise? Like Ping, Pop, Lee, Michael, Garfield, Benz, and Topten have all at least had Club Fridays since Pit Babe ended, not to mention the Long Beans gang. So I’m not surprised there’s a lot of frustration with PoohPavel fans but I still blame Time over fanmeets and concerts and such. Like at least PoohPavel had work while they were waiting to film but it does suck they haven’t been able to do any acting since s1 wrapped in Nov 2023? I’m sure twitter fans would find something else to be mad about even if it weren’t the case tho.
Anyways these are just my thoughts thank you for always indulging my fascination with Change’s filming schedule

Candy House - Electric Utopia: Chapter 1
Characters: Hajime, Sora & Natsume Season: Spring
TL Note:
I’m unsure what pronouns Kirarai Dearu go by, so I’ve opted to go with a gender neutral route. Please do let me know if there is more information regarding them in-game and I’ll fix this accordingly!

< A memory. The first year ES was established. The middle of April – Yumenosaki Academy hallway. >

Sora: Haha~♪
Sora knew it! So “S1-NON” was Jime-chan?
Hajime: S–Shh~! Not so loud, Harukawa-kun!
It’s embarrassing so I’d like to keep it a secret, okay?
Here, I’ll give you one of my homemade pickled plums ♪
Sora: Sometimes, you’re kinda like an old granny from the countryside, Jime-chan~...
Hajime: Am I~? My little sister gets angry and says the same thing. I envy you, Harukawa-kun. You’re a very modern child.
Should I also dye my hair in trendy colours or dress up a bit more?
Sora: HiHi~♪ Jime-chan’s trying really hard to change the subject~
Hajime: Shh, enough about “S1-NON”! We’ve already moved on from that topic!
Natsume: Good Evening. Sorry to interrupt your little chAT.
HeHE. You two looked like you were having a lovely conversatiON. Did I disturb you tWO?
Hajime: Sakasaki-senpai! No, no. In fact, you came at just the right time…!
Sora: Master~! It’s rare for you to come to the second-year classrooms~
What’s wrong? Ah, did you accidentally go to your old classroom instead?
Natsume: I’m not some decrepit old mAN. Don’t lump me with Senpai, who’s turned into an old geezer after becoming a member of socieTY.
Well, I don’t really attend my classes so I only vaguely remember where my classroom iS.
Sora: Master~ You should make sure to attend classes, otherwise you might have to repeat a year, you know?
Natsume: I’ll be sure to do a good job in that regaRD. Education is mandatory until the end of junior high school in Japan, anywAY. It’s up to me whether or not I want to attend classES.
Anyway, Sora, you just received a message from Senpai, didn’t yOU? I don’t know what he wants, but he told us to meet up at our office in the ES buildiNG.
You have a tendency to get lost when it comes to new areas, so I was thinking we could hold hands and go togethER. Or am I being a bit of a busyboDY?
Sora: HuHu~♪ That would be great~
Sora’s good at reading maps because of video games, but Sora gets confused because the map information for unknown areas don’t match up with reality~
Hajime: ? Um, what do you mean by that?
Natsume: I don’t know if you’re aware, but Sora perceives the world in a special wAY.
Hajime: Oh, he has something called synesthesia, right?
Natsume: YeAH. Unlike us, Sora perceives all sensations, such as smells and tactile senses, “visualLY”.
The way air feels on the skin, scents and smells, sounds that make your ears trembLE…
Sora perceives all the information that has been turned into a chaotic “colour” with his eyes and forms an understanding of iT.
Because of this, Sora might “see” the area differently even though it looks the same to uS.
Comparing this ever-changing reality with information that always remains the same can cause a lot of confusiON.
Because of that, something as strange as getting lost despite being able to read the map can happEN.
I don’t have synesthesia so I don’t know what it’s like exactly, but that’s my impression of iT.
Sora exists in the same world as we do, but he must be living in a strange world that we can’t even understaND.
We perceive this world through our five senses and our braIN. That’s also precisely why each and every of the worlds we perceive are differeNT.
It means that the difference Sora sees in his own world is far greatER.
I’ve heard many stories that talk about how people that are left-handed find it difficult to live in this world, since it was created for right-handed peopLE.
But if that’s the case, then that means Sora was born with one hundred or two hundred hanDS.
Which hand would you use to cut paper with scissoRS? Is the “hand” everyone referring to the same “hand” that you think of in the first plaCE?
It’s a strange world of hIS – one where you cannot find the answer to such a trifling questiON…
I’m sure the world Sora lives in is full of difficulties and questions that someone like me will never be able to imagiNE.
Sora: Yes! That’s why Master~ is so helpful. He teaches Sora a lot of different things~♪
Natsume: It’s the role of a master to help his disciple live an easier liFE.
Hajime: Come to think of it, Harukawa-kun refers to you as his master, doesn’t he? Is it a nickname of sorts?
Natsume: HeHE. Well, I have a tearful tale to tell regarding thAT.
I’ll tell you the story, but in exchange, you must tell me what a certain word meaNS. I just overheard someone mentioning something called “S1-NON” ♪
Hajime: Y–You heard our conversation? Geez~ it’s all because you were so loud, Harukawa-kun!
Sora: HeHe~♪ Sorry! Sora finds it difficult to adjust detailed things like that!
Natsume: HeHE. Let me gueSS – Is this “S1-NON” the pretty girl virtual idol that rose to fame on the internet recentLY?
Hajime: Y–You know about it!? T–Then, there’s nothing I need to tell you!
Natsume: So you were “S1-NON”, Hajime-kUN.
Now that I think about it, it sounds like the nickname Baru-kun calls yOU – “ShinonON”.
Hajime: U–Uuu… P–Please keep it a secret! I beg of you – I’ll do anything!
I was set up by Idea-sama– by “Pretty Girl Senpai”!
Right after ES was established, I went to see Dearu-sama since I was indebted to them[⁎].
Then all of a sudden, they made me wear this, um, motion capture suit thing?
I was confused but I sang, danced and spoke as I was told and then…
My speech and movements were converted, placed over a female avatar and uploaded to the internet before I realised it…
Natsume: It caused a huge stir on the internET ♪ People were saying things like, “Is she the Legendary Virtual Idol (STC) – the successor to Kirarai Dearu!?”
“Who on earth is this mysterious ‘S1-NON’ girl!?”
Sora: “Virtual Idol (STC)”?
Natsume: She hasn’t been officially announcED. It’s an established theory on the internet, but Kirarai Dearu hasn’t changed their appearance at all, so that theory seems to hold uP?
Hajime: I–I don’t know much about virtual idols, but I hope it doesn’t get out of hand~
I think it’s just one of Idea-sama’s whimsys – it must be one of their pranks.
Natsume: HeHe. I think virtual idols will grow to be something huge in this new eRA. In fact, I think we should be actively taking part in those activitiES.
I’m being relatively serioUS. People talking about real idols on the internet is soon to be old neWS.
Hajime: But “S1-NON” isn’t me! Please forget about it!
Uuu. It looks like “S1-NON” is pretty popular, but to be honest, I can’t keep up with it.
Actually, it feels like I’m being tied down by internet-related things as opposed to reality lately.
Maybe it’s because I’m old-fashioned, but how should I put this…? It makes me somewhat anxious.

In honour of Noah getting the first 3 scripts for Season 5, this is my Season 5 bucket list (I may be very early so this is my early one) I’ll try to make it as realistic as possible 😭
- Nancy survives.
This is the number one thing I need to happen, I will not be able to handle it if she dies
- I’m also very much on the side of I want everyone to survive.
Stranger Things is very much about the relationships between all of the characters, and it might not be the main part of the show but it is an important one and it’s what makes Stranger Things so great. I think it would massively suck if they were to kill any of the Hopper-Byers family after everything they’ve been through and Hopper losing anyone would just confirm his theory that he’s a “curse”.
- Ronance hug.
I need this like I need air. Nancy Wheeler needs a hug and I need Robin to be the one to give it to her.
- More Ronance scenes.
I mean obviously I ship Ronance so of course I want more scenes of them together, BUT I also really love their friendship. After Nancy lost Barb, Robin is the first girl she’s befriended that didn’t have romantic intentions and I think their friendship is really something special.
- Nancy to finally get closure with Barb and realise it wasn’t her fault
I realise she kind of got closure in S2, but I don’t think she really did. She clearly still blames herself, and what happened shaped her into who she is today. And we know she never really spoke to anyone about what happened because when she tried to talk to Steve he brushed her off. So I think she needs someone to tell her it wasn’t her fault.
- Nancy/Robin/Jonathan/Steve/Argyle team up.
This would be the team up of the CENTURY.
- Nancy/El scenes
I’ve needed this since S1. I think they’re quite similar in some ways and it’d be so nice to see them have some scenes together
- Jargyle scenes
I mean… they’re literally hilarious together. Imagine Nancy, Robin and Steve having to put up with high Jargyle 😭
- Not St*ncy endgame
Okay. Don’t hate me, and I’m sure this is pretty well known by now but I’m very much anti St*ncy and I’m not even sorry about it. Those two getting back together would feel like ten steps backwards and a dishonour to both of their characters. Steve’s character for the past two seasons has revolved around finding a girlfriend and I think he needs to realise that he doesn’t need a girlfriend and it’s okay to be on your own. It would also be a very misogynistic ending for Nancy. I could talk about this forever but I’ll just leave it at that. 😭
- JOPPER DATE!
Pretty sure David Harbour already confirmed this but I’m so excited to see Jopper in a relationship!!
- Mike being a complete menace to society and Robin getting to experience it
I mean, Robin hasn’t spent much time with Mike yet and I just think him being the little shit he is would be so funny for Robin to witness. I can just imagine her turning to Nancy and saying “You’re related to him?”
- Will/Robin scenes
This is an obvious one, but I think talking to Robin would help Will a LOT. I don’t know how likely it is to happen but I think it’d be really nice for Will to know he’s not on his own.
- LUMAX DATE!
I NEED IT. They arranged it last season and Max DIED so it’s only right they get their date in Season 5!!
- More Erica
Not much to say about this, we all need more Erica.
- More Hopper-Byers family
El finally has a family and somewhere she belongs, Hopper just came back from the dead. I need this family to be happy more than anything.
- If not Byler endgame, I need to see Will accept himself (at least somewhat) and finally be happy.
I like both Mileven and Byler, and honestly my opinion on who should be endgame changes on a daily basis based on the fans lmao. It would be awesome to see Byler endgame, but I would like to see Will accept himself and maybe come out to his mom??
- Nancy & Mike hug.
This has to happen. It has to. And not right before one of them dies either. Give me more Wheeler siblings. Perhaps a parallel to S1 when Nancy rushes out of the Byers to hug Mike but this time Mike rushes to hug Nancy??

☕️ ted lasso
There was a time when I unabashedly loved all parts of this show, rather than liking some parts and disliking others, and that was back in s1. I loved all the character arcs in that, and although shows are rarely perfect, I think s1 came pretty close.
S2 was…kind of a mixed bag, but tbh the only plotline I really hated was the S*mbecca bs. I know some people who ship it defend it (especially against Tedbecca shippers like me) with “Tedbecca is also a power dynamic relationship!” But…the power dynamic between the club owner and a player is different from that between the club owner and the coach. Not to mention, Rebecca and Sam have a not-insignificant age difference (and given that Sam is around my age, that added to me finding it gross). And that’s ALSO not to mention how the writers made that relationship all about Rebecca and her baggage. They treated Sam like such a stepping stone in Rebecca’s development, and that’s just icky to me. I also didn’t like the Sassy/Ted stuff, and I still don’t, but that’s personal preference (if they become canon, I might not like it, but I can live with it).
I also didn’t like Roy and Keeley’s love drama in s2, now that I think about it. Or throwing Jamie into the mix for no reason. But hey, I wrote a fic about it and made my peace with it, so…moving on.
s3 is really where things get…interesting. I’m holding off on judging it for now, because this show has a thing about building arcs and paying them off well in the finale (ex: the Nate arc throughout s2), but here’s a few things I will say (and…bear in mind, this is written at a point where Ted Lasso has only aired up to 3x7, so I’ll be happy to eat my words about any of this later): –Nate and Jade as a pairing is awful, and I’ve talked about that more here. I don’t think there’s anything more I can say about that, and I can only hope that Jade at least apologizes for treating Nate so terribly at first if they’re committing to this romance plotline. I also hope they actually develop that romance if they’re committing to it, because I’m not seeing any sparks.
–Jamie’s arc this season has been fantastic, no notes. I know a lot of people were upset that the Zava thing didn’t seem to go anywhere, but I think they paid that off well in 3x7 with him fixing the Total Football play and leading the team (but also, not dominating the play, but rather serving as a middleman). I also loved his dynamic with Roy this season!
–Roy and Keeley’s breakup…I’ll admit, I didn’t really like it, but it does seem like this season is building to their endgame, so I’ll let it slide.
–I’m still mad about what they did to Shandy. I wasn’t at first, I’ll admit, but the more I actually sat with it, the more I was upset that they introduced a WOC who was clever and innovative and then flanderized her so quickly and turned her into someone completely unrecognizable. And all just so Keeley could…realize she’s alone and fire her? For why? Why not come up with another reason for Shandy to leave? Something like wanting to stretch her wings somewhere else, and Keeley’s too good of a friend to stop her? It could’ve contributed to Keeley feeling like everyone’s moving on without her, and she’s feeling stuck!
–I’m not sure what to make of Jack just yet, so that’s one of the things I’m staying quiet on for now. Same for Barbara
–3x6 is my favorite episode, it felt really cozy and felt like filler without feeling unnecessary (Mando s3 could learn a thing or two from this, but I digress). Everyone developed in their own ways and got what they needed to out of that night, and I think it’s lovely!
–Sam’s plotline in 3x7 was handled abysmally. The ending with the team was sweet, but…given how racially charged the whole thing was, it felt ~too~ neat and tidy. The forgiveness message felt patronizing (especially since it was written by white people. Where’s the nuance? Where are the writers of color? This situation calls for both!). It seems like the writers in general have forgotten how to write Sam ever since the Dubai Air stuff tbh, which is a shame because I love him dearly. You deserve better writing, Sam.
–I’m also not really sure what Ted’s plotline is driving towards…I think it’s “leave or don’t leave,” and tbh, either option could work for me if they write it well.
A lot of this really depends on the rest of the season, and especially the finale. I had my problems with s2, but only one major issue, and I liked the season overall. Hopefully with this season, it’ll be the same situation or better. I do still love this show, and I have faith in it because of what I’ve seen from it before…but I’m also hyperaware of the dreaded third-season curse (the Flash, Cobra Kai, Mandalorian, and other shows have fallen victim to it already), where the show just dips in quality and never recovers. I hope Ted Lasso proves me wrong and avoids that, but…it’s too early to say one way or the other.
After all, if you’d asked me about this show at this point in s2, I might’ve been much more unfavorable towards it. It all depends on how it’ll culminate, and this show is usually pretty good about that, so we'll see how it turns out.
send me a "☕️" and (optionally) a topic, and I'll talk about it!

Glad to be a breath of fresh air! I don't want to say that I cringe a lot in the tag with the takes but, you know, yeah.😩
I don't particularly enjoy the double standard on either side but it really does seem to always come down harder on the women, especially any woman who doesn't present as expected. Just look at our little Pen being called the villain when we know if it was someone else there'd be a lot less of that. I'm still seeing bad takes 4 years later from another fandom I was in where a man and woman both made the same mistake and strangely, only her bad choice is talked about. Never his.
I agree, this isn't even on my list of things to worry about, ha. I have heard two versions of the rumor, one where he's there with them and one where he's watching them. I'm not going to get into the sudden fandom activism taking place about two women being paid to entertain a man but I will say that the distinction (if either is true!) is what I'd be most interested. It doesn't matter either way in the end but if it's the latter with him just watching, that's an entirely different thing that would need to be unpacked. Either way he's using escapism but not participating and a later scene being unable to participate? That's a man going through it and probably deserves some grace when he's also about to make himself suffer needlessly further.
People have made up their minds what the scene is without context or confirmation and it's certainly up to them to do so but having so much fandom experience I can say I've never seen anyone's worst case spiral of doom scenario they proclaim as fact be true in the end.
This man looking all over the world to find what he needs right across the road is great. He's been trying to be a Very Grown Up Man since s1 and he hasn't found purpose yet. I can't wait to see him actually find it this time.
Oh I agree, the media is the worst with fandom. It's best to stay out of it if possible. The media doesn't seem to understand the passion that the fandom has in all and tries to utilize it in all of the wrong ways. They're out of touch with a lot of it and truly, adding in the way a lot of fans feel entitled to what they want, it's always going to end in a melt down. Given the generational divide as well, you're going to have a bunch of people who think something is the worst thing in the world and the people who think it's really not that big of a deal so what are they yelling about?
I'm not saying it's easier to wait for context but in a month I feel like most of them won't even remember the full scope of their freak outs.
I have to say I DO cringe a lot, I try and stay neutral. That’s what I tell myself. I have actually stayed away from Tumblr honestly, but then there were all these pretty pictures, and I couldn’t resist. And then my big mouth takes off and all these ideas get in my head, and I use my blog as my therapy sessions.
Usually, my therapy is just with myself because most people just ignore what I have to say until you so thankfully came along to join into my sessions, and I must say I have truly appreciated not having to talk to myself all day long!
To the issue at hand…double standards…My word. We do live in a world today where women are sure held to a different standard than men and interesting that as I had thought we were moving out of regency standards of women having much more say and agency of themselves, we seem to step backwards more and more each day.
But that is a much bigger hole of a topic, when it comes to fandom however, we do seem to hold our men to a larger standard when it comes to our ships. God help Luke after this season airs. I pray our ladies and gents are on their best behavior to remember that Nic and Luke play these characters with the best intent and love for who they are and what is written for them.
I don’t know what will come of the article, I know the Sun is iffy and I’ve seen a lot of people say, “Yes its true” But there is 1) saying its true and 2) seeing it on screen. Back when screeners would give us a play by play of Glee episodes, they would tell us how a scene would play out and we would all get angry over a single phrase or an explanation of a specific description of a scene. Our brains all would create the story of what the intent was behind this one sentence or descriptor. Then we would get to the episode and the actual script around what played out was nothing near what my brain had created in that 2 second nightmare.
I’m sure we get a set up scene showing us that Colin is knowledgeable around a bodega, he’s been to these in his travels, he’s experienced with women, these are something that interest him and he’s curious about. That’s the set up. Then comes Pen. There is a kiss. There is confusion. Not realization, but confusion. Pen meets Obi Wan Debling. They hit it off. Success. Colin has done what he set out to do. He has accomplished his goal of making up with his best friend for his careless words the season prior. His unnerved, he needs release for some reason. He returns to what has calmed him before…but now scene two returns us to the familiar that is a set up for the audience and Colin to see that now is different. He no longer has interest. His confusion lifts because all he sees is Pen and he no longer wants what is offered in front of him.
And maybe I am also guilty of making up my mind about a scene before it plays out, because I have no context or confirmation either, but I would certainly be ok with being wrong also. I would prefer to take that than spiral into something else. To accept that Colin who has never been needlessly cruel instead is just a whore who is using his friend Pen to hurt her further while getting his rocks off. Because that is not the same person who can’t even swallow because she told him his eyes are really pretty. It just doesn’t compute so I refuse to spiral any other way.
In 27 days, all we will care about is that these beautiful people are staring at each other on our screens and we will be freaking out for more wonderful reasons.

1 8 and 28 for TVDu
Thanks for the ask :))
1. Your favourite non-canon ship?
I think this should come as no surprise based on like everything about my blog lol— it’s Hosie for sure :)
Although most of my favorite TVDu ships are noncanon. And I have quite a few I like a lot.
And Hosie is my favorite ship in the TVDu canon or noncanon.
8. Your oldest ship; the one you’ve shipped for the longest time?
Short answer is Posie.
Long answer is that this is interesting because I have watched/am watching these shows out of order. I didn’t watch any tv shows as a young kid, so early teens I started catching up on everything I missed so to speak. And I really could not get into s1 of TVD. I tried several times over the years and I was just not hooked at all.
And I also started watching TO with somebody a couple years later, though I don’t think we finished s1 before my ADHD was onto something else. Although I do remember enjoying it at the time.
And then Legacies started airing and a friend convinced me to watch with them by dangling the canon gays in front of me, the gay friend. And it worked of course. I wasn’t at all involved with fandom while the show was airing, and I wasn’t even watching it weekly, I’d go and catch up occasionally sometimes months after a season had finished. I didn’t finish s4 until late spring/early summer 2023.
(Also the more I learn about what fandom was like, the more glad I am that I was just casually watching. Think it would have ruined the experience for me. Because I have a ton of issues with the show itself, I love so many of the characters and relationships/dynamics but the plot leaves a lot to be desired and the direction of the show itself and I think fandom would have put me off watching.)
Anyway I started hyperfixating on Hope later in summer 2023, and decided to watch TVD/TO literally solely for her backstory.
(Because I want to rewatch Legacies now that I’m actually a fan, not just casually watching, and I wanted to watch TO first because of how much she’s in it and her family. And they originally showed up in TVD obviously hence the watching all of it.)
I wasn’t expecting to actually get into the shows. This time I started watching from the last TVD episode I was sure I had watched (like mid s1 I think) and well turns out it was only the first half of s1 I couldn’t get into! I really liked the second half and continued watching just because I was enjoying it, no longer just for Hope reasons.
(Also I still haven’t finished TVD/TO. I’m watching them according to some listed order I found online, and I’m mid s6 of TVD/mid s2 of TO)
TLDR Legacies is the only one of the 3 shows I’ve watched all of and I watched it first, so the first ships I got into in this universe were in that show. I will say the only ships I actually shipped while watching were Posie, Methan and Cleope. Everything else that I now ship, I got into later.
(I came close to shipping Hizzie after Lizzie’s love confession. Hope fooled me just like she fooled Lizzie that that had gotten her humanity back. Oh the heartbreak. Anyways I watched the rest of the show believing Lizzie was in love with Hope, but I didn’t really think it was at all reciprocated idk why. I have obviously since changed my mind.)
28. Is there a character you have several ships for?
If you’ve read this far, I think you can see the answer is yes! However, prior to the past year the answer would have been no. I have historically not been able to multi ship (it’s a flaw, I’ve worked on it lol).
During my first watch of Legacies, I could not conceive of shipping Josie with literally anyone besides Penelope despite her not being in 3/4ths of the show lol.
I accidentally got into Hosie after I finished the show and the multi shipping ban went out the window. I am basically here for every single possible femslash in Legacies canon or noncanon.
I have a lot of Hope ships, she’s very shippable, my favorites: Hosie, Hizzie, Cleope
And two main Josie ships: Hosie, Posie
I’m not that invested in any ships in TVD/TO at this point in time although there’s many dynamics I enjoy watching, several that do include the same characters.
Sorry this is so long, thank you for asking <3

Hi I'd love it if you could make an analysis on Adrien and Marinette this season. I've been seeing too many people say that their characters have been ruined and so and so. Your takes and opinions are really fresh and actually smart, so I'd love to hear what you have to say.
I would absolutely love to talk about them. The notion that their characters have been ruined comes directly from a butthurt place of salt, and it just demonstrates to me that people are not watching this show with their eyes open. I know we are missing a lot of context for this season, but so far from what I’ve seen of the later episodes, their characters are maturing and developing in ways we’ve been begging for since s2. And to understand that, we’re going to look back at the last couple seasons up until now.
CAUTION: I will be discussing all of the currently aired episodes, so if you have not watched anything past Elation or Transmission and don’t want to be spoiled for later episodes, go ahead and keep scrolling. I will not be discussing leaks, so you are safe from those. Let’s dig in, shall we?
Firstly, I think we need to address something I’ve seen people claiming in their tantrums about how Adrien and Marinette are “ruined,” and that’s this idea that Adrien’s feelings came out of nowhere/they weren't actually friends before now. They didn’t and they were. They’ve actually been hinting at his budding feelings for her for a while, we just didn’t know for sure that was happening until now. Hell, one of the biggest clowns on his character since s1 was literally “sHe’S jUsT a fRiEnD” when he’s literally making heart eyes at her and talking about how great she is, but I want to focus specifically on the moments that take place after Puppeteer 2 because Adrien himself cited that episode as the point when he noticed his feelings for her changing. And him saying that wasn’t a retcon or random. They actually started dropping mad hints after that episode, we just weren’t 100% aware that his feelings officially changed. I made another post a couple months ago with several instances that hinted at Adrien’s changing feelings, but let’s talk about those a little more.
I’m going chronologically, so not necessarily in broadcast order, but if we look at the production codes, Puppeteer 2 was episode 21 of s3. The next episode after that? Chat Blanc. Everyone clowned on Adrien for “only liking Marinette because she’s Ladybug,” but looking back on it, his sudden feelings aren’t so sudden after all. We’ll talk more about Chat Blanc later because as we know, this timeline got erased, and Marinette is the only one that kind of knows about it. Which brings us to Ladybug, and possibly one of Adrien’s darkest moments as far as things he consciously said and did. Up until this point, Adrien had always been kind of soft and mild-mannered, not wanting to stir up trouble to a fault, but the end of this episode is the first time we see him righteously pissed as Adrien. Another tidbit to point out from earlier in s3 that relates to this moment is from Oni-chan when Adrien tells Lila that he won’t support her or be her friend if she hurts the people he loves. Jump back to Ladybug when Adrien holds that friendship over her head again to restore Marinette’s reputation. Adrien isn’t the type of character to be shady or underhanded, but he is the type of character to fiercely protect the people he cares about, and in this instance, that person is Marinette. That moment was a huge indicator about how Adrien feels about Marinette and how much he values her/their relationship.
Next, we have the first instance where Adrien truly stops and ogles over Marinette in Heart Hunter. We’ve joked in the past that he gives her soft looks all the time, but this is the first time that he full-stopped and admitted out loud that he thinks she’s attractive. And he does it twice in that episode. Not to mention how badly he wanted her to run away with them, and how disappointed he was when she left. Additionally, we have him being conflicted over his feelings for Kagami over the next several episodes. He hesitates and isn’t sure how he feels. We all thought it was because he still loved Ladybug, which he did, but now we can see there was also unconscious feelings for Marinette swirling around in the mix. (RIP Adrigami) Marinette was always an obstacle in their relationship both as Ladybug and as herself, even unknowingly. It’s actually Marinette’s lucky charm keychain that pushes Kagami to break up with Adrien in Lies after all of his erratic and wishy-washy behavior toward her, signaling that Marinette would always be between them.
Season 4 brought forth several small hints, the cutest one being Mr. Pigeon 72. Adrien gets distracted several times by Marinette in this episode, which isn’t necessarily weird when he thinks he sees her during his dive, but the moment in the end when he bumps his head on the car because he can’t take his eyes off her? Boy was falling hard. One thing I find really interesting is that Adrien falls for Marinette at her most unhinged. He tells Kagami in Protection that he just always thought Marinette acting weird was part of her charm and found it cute (think back to how softly he smiles at her in Optigami when she’s freaking out over the elevator or how enamored he is with her acting crazy in Psychomedian). Seeing the context of these moments in retrospect when Adrien talks about how he felt during them just confirms that their relationship was always deeper than it seemed. His side of the story as it relates to their relationship has always been missing, and maybe that's what people mean when they say their relationship was underdeveloped? We always saw things through Marinette's lens, and of course, she freaks out and overthinks and doesn't think Adrien will reciprocate her feelings. It's refreshing to see his perspective and understand what he was thinking and feeling during some of those key moments, and it gives us more insight to the nature of their relationship this whole time.
Next we have Ephemeral, which I know this timeline also got erased, but I’ve always seen the ‘what if’ reveal episodes as a way of checking in on how the love square is doing development wise. In Chat Blanc, Adrien’s feelings for Marinette were still budding, and while it did make it easier when he learned her identity, I think his reaction in Ephemeral was much more telling about their relationship. People have said that Adrinette were “barely even friends” before s5, but I think Ephemeral proves that’s not true. (I mean, watching canon with your eyes open prior to that also proves that’s not true, but I digress). The moment Marinette reveals herself to Adrien in Ephemeral, he tells her how happy he is to find out that one of his best friends in the whole world is also his partner and the girl he loves. By Ephemeral, Adrien sees Marinette as one of his best friends, and that point continues in Risk when he confides in her about his homelife. He tells her that he doesn’t want to tell everyone else his true feelings because “they wouldn’t understand,” but he opens up to Marinette because they are close enough that he deemed she would listen. And people say that one moment was when his feelings changed, but that moment was just when all of the other hints came to a head for him. He didn’t fall in love with her in that one moment, he’d been falling for her slowly all throughout s4, and he was even still falling into s5 and didn’t realize he was in love until Determination.
Risk was just the moment that pushed him over the edge because he realized she was someone he could confide in, someone who would listen to him and understand his feelings without projecting another narrative onto him. And we’ve seen Marinette working on that throughout s5. She’s stepping back and letting him be who he wants to be and encouraging him to make his own choices. Adrien literally says in Transmission that the Adrien everyone else knows is a marketing image. Gabriel states in Pretension that he crafts the perfect images to sell to people, pretty much implying that he is in direct control over how the world sees Adrien and the person everyone thinks he is. Marinette is the only person that sees beneath the surface of that and wants to help him do something about it. And people think that’s “ruining” their characters? By letting them grow closer and fight for and support each other? By letting Adrien figure things out and work toward his own autonomy? Yall want him to stay lonely and miserable under his dad’s control forever? Weird take, but okay. Like it or not, his relationship with Marinette has been building up since the beginning, and we’ve seen them make big strides each season. Nothing about what’s happening in s5 is random, nor was it thrown in casually. The signs were there the whole time, sorry yall missed them.
Secondly, I want to look at LadyNoir, the big source of everyone’s grief, but in the same way the Adrinette hints were all there throughout s4, the LadyNoir hints leading them to where they are were abundant as well in s4. Looking back in the context we have now, LadyNoir and Adrinette had an inverse relationship in s4. The more Adrien fell for Marinette, the more his feelings for Ladybug faded, and their conflict last season had a lot to do with it. Ladybug pulled away from him a lot last season, and I don’t think it was entirely intentional or conscious. She was dealing with a lot and scrambling to juggle her new responsibility with Shadowmoth on the loose, Su Han bitching in her ear, Alya knowing her secret. And unfortunately, the more she pulled away, the more hurt Chat Noir got, so he pulled away more, which in turn made her start relying on other heroes more, which created even more distance, you get the idea. I think there are two key episodes that point to 1. Why Chat Noir stopped loving Ladybug and 2. Why LadyNoir could not have worked romantically. (actually there are 3 episodes about why LadyNoir can’t work romantically, but we will get to those in a minute)
The first episode deals with the reason Chat Noir moved on from Ladybug, and that’s Glaciator 2.0. Prior to this, Ladybug had been softer in her rejection of him, but still firm with the public that there was nothing romantic going on between them. She does care about his feelings, and if we recall the first Glaciator episode, she tells him that she doesn’t want to toy with his emotions or lead him on. She is sensitive to the way he feels, but she also stands her ground that she’s not interested. In Glaciator 2, we have the two of them already being a little at odds with each other from the growing distance between them in s4, and we also have Ladybug at her most stressed. So she snaps. And I think that episode did stick with him and play a huge role in why he moved on. She makes it abundantly clear in that episode that she doesn’t love him, has never loved him, and will never love him. She set very clear boundaries with him in that episode, and we’ve seen those boundaries stick with the way Adrien treats Marinette in s5. He’s not pushy, he’s patient, he lets her lead their interactions. That episode affected him. That episode alone is why it's not surprising that he moved on. She'd been telling him for 3 seasons she wasn't into him like that. He finally listened.
The other episode that points to the big problem with romantic LadyNoir is Kuro Neko. People don’t want to hear this, but LadyNoir does not function effectively when Ladybug in particular is distracted by love. We saw this in Desperada, we saw this again in Kuro Neko. She gets too distracted, and things don’t work. We see teasings of this in Determination when Ladybug gets distracted by Chat Noir, and they almost lose until he snaps her out of it. Granted, she was also still down about losing everything, but the point still stands that she does not do well when she’s in love with her partner. Contrast that with the way they effortlessly work together at the beginning of Perfection. They’re holding a whole ass other conversation while fighting bad guys as if they were doing anything else. Their mojo is back, and they’re getting along better than ever as friends. Romance was always a point of contention for them, and now they don't have to worry about it. They can just do their job.
Now, I know a lot of people are also of the mindset that they should just reveal their identities already, but we have two examples of why that’s a bad idea as well. Chat Blanc and Ephemeral prove that they will work well together post-reveal, BUT the main obstacle in their way is Hawkmoth. It’s too dangerous for them to reveal their identities while he is still around because as we’ve seen, they get reckless and careless and Gabriel sniffs them out. They lose. (yes, I count Chat Blanc as a loss). So long as Gabriel is still around and pulling the strings, they cannot tell each other their identities. They’ve said that on numerous occasions. It’s not a matter of compatibility because we know they’re made for each other, that much has always been clear. It’s a matter of practicality and dangerousness. It’s not safe for them to reveal right now, and I think the writers wanted to push them through the development they’re getting first, which brings me to my next point.
This season is about healing trauma, particularly Marinette’s, but also increasingly so Adrien’s. And the only way they could go about healing the particular trauma these two are dealing with is the way they’re doing it. Adrinette was the side that offered the most opportunity for that development by becoming canon, and I don't care if that pisses people off when I say that. "But best friends to lovers is better-" okay, but you're ignoring a lot of important context that I’ve talked about. Mixing their jobs as heroes with their romantic feelings is actively detrimental to their job. Ladybug loses focus, Chat behaves recklessly, Hawmoth literally learned their identities and took advantage of that. The world got destroyed, the universe nearly got rewritten. But yeah go off about how much better things would be if the heroes got together, especially in the season where stakes are at an all-time high and them focusing on the mission is absolutely crucial.
They needed development as civilians, but that doesn't make them less deserving of love, nor does it “ruin” their characters. That's the biggest crock of shit I've ever heard. Marinette needed to overcome her hesitation and anxiety around Adrien. Because what good would it do them to date as heroes because she ran away from her problems with another boy only to turn around and find out that the boy she was running from is the same boy she ran to? Do people think that reveal would go well with her still not having healed from that? A huge point at the beginning of the season was that she was running away from her problems and throwing herself at someone else instead of dealing with her trauma. Marinette needed to turn around and face her feelings for Adrien. She needed to face the mistakes she made as a result of loving Adrien specifically and heal from that. And ya know what? Allowing Adrinette to date fixed Ladrien without them even having to appear next to each other. It allows Ladybug and Chat Noir to focus on their mission without their feelings getting in the way. It allows both of them the opportunity to be happy and get shit done. And ya know what, since they're healing trauma, they're gonna be ecstatic when the reveal eventually happens. We loved each other the whole time? You're actually my best friend in and out of the suit? You're gonna be at my wedding next to me marrying me? We're gonna grow old together? All sides are benefitting this season, and yes, being platonic is a benefit for some sides. Just because it wasn't what some people wanted doesn't change that. I swear some people just wanted to treat the sides as separate forever and only ever have good things happen for their favorite. I saw it all the time when people would pout about one side getting development in episodes in prior seasons. Personally, I am in it for the whole picture because I know it will be more beautiful in the end if every side gets worked on. I'm here for the love square, not just Adrinette, but it seems like some people forgot we’re all on the same ship.
Additionally, it’s not really a big secret that they’re winding down the Agreste plot. This season will resolve that storyline, so they needed to bring the Agreste plot to the frontline, and it wouldn’t have worked with LadyNoir. Marinette needed to see first-hand how bad Adrien’s situation is. We still don’t have all of the pieces, but later episodes show how desperately they’re fighting to be together and to free Adrien from his father’s control. They could not have put her that close to the situation with LadyNoir because they can’t reveal for reasons I’ve already mentioned, and as such, Chat Noir can’t tell her about his home life. LadyNoir being together would have been self-contained. It wouldn’t have propelled the other sides forward in the way they needed to. Marinette would still assume that disasters happen when she pursues Adrien. She’d likely still blame herself for being blinded by love for losing all of the Miraculous. She’d likely still distance herself from him, which would remove Adrien’s confidant about his home situation. The story they’re telling wouldn’t work. And that’s the other thing, we don’t know all of the details about the story they’re telling yet. (I mean, unless you’ve read leaks, but we’re not talking about those rn). Obviously, Adrinette being canon was important to the story, and I am personally just not seeing it as a detriment because I’ve seen all of the positives that have come from it in later episodes. Their characters are growing and maturing. They’re supporting each other. They’re fighting for each other. Is that not what we’ve always loved about the love square? The way they complement each other? How deeply they love each other and how much they sacrifice for each other?
The only conclusion I can come to about anyone saying their characters have been ruined is that they haven’t watched anything past Transmission. And not only that, they’re making a ton of bad faith assumptions about Transmission and the next episode after it in order to justify their outcry. But as someone who has watched every episode officially released right now, their development this season is solid. On all sides. There is a huge difference between not particularly liking something and something being bad. People would do well to learn the difference.

Bucky Barnes Imagines - Some Sunny Day Part 1
Tumblr media
AN: My Marvel obsession has been lying dormant since Endgame finished but Wandavision and Falcon and Winter Soldier have brought it back to life.... This is going to be a series based off the show. Kind of like my ‘Oh Dear’ fic, it’s the series with an added characters and story lines.
Summary: Before the Blip, you and Bucky were close. After you both returning and Tony’s funeral, you decided to go back to your home town to spend time with your family. When duty calls, you return.
In this chapter: You reunite with Sam and Bucky (Based on S1 EP2)
Pairing(s): Bucky Barnes x Fem!Reader, Sam Wilson x Platonic!Reader
Word Count: 6,883
Warnings: Spoilers for episode 2, strong language, violence.
You and Bucky had always been close.
You were close with Steve before Bucky joined the avengers and you fought on Steve’s side during the small civil war between the avengers.
Steve was your best friend and Sam always knew how to make you smile but there was something about Bucky that was different to the rest of the avengers.
You had spent some time in Wakanda with Bucky at Steve’s request and you two had always fought side by side and it crushed Steve when you both taken during the blip and he wasn't.
When you returned, you were thrust back into battle almost immediately. The final fight against Thanos which resulted in you losing Tony and then Steve.
Nothing seemed to matter except the fact you had been gone for 5 whole years. You had missed 5 whole years with your friends and family. They had changed whilst you were gone and you came back the same as you left.
When Steve returned the infinity stones, he hadn’t given you warning that he wasn’t coming back the same age he was going in but he had warned Bucky. They had spoken about it before apparently and after everything, you felt kind of betrayed.
You knew you’d never understand Steve’s choice but it was his choice. You were just upset Bucky didn’t warn you.
You returned to your home town after that day.
You returned to find some people had changed and some hadn’t but you knew you wanted to be around and spend time with them.
After all the years fighting for the avengers and only calling every once in a blue moon. It seemed to finally dawn on you that you should spend time with them whilst you still could.
However, that only lasted around 6 months before you found yourself answering a phone call from Sam.
You were at a birthday party for one of your old school friend’s daughters when you felt your phone go off.
You put down one of the little girls who had be asking you a hundred questions about being apart of the avengers and excused yourself from the party.
“Tell me why I got an awful feeling when I saw your caller ID come up on my phone.” You answered, folding your free hand under your arm as you leant against the wall.
“It’s cause your subconscious is reminding you about that one time you said no when I asked you out on a date and you regret that now.”  Sam’s voice instantly made you crack a smile.
“Or maybe it’s because every time I get a call from you it’s to do with the world ending or something worse.” You shot back.
“It’s good to hear your voice too.” Sam chuckled at your comment before he had responded.
“So what’s going on? I haven’t heard much from you in months.” You asked.
“That’s around the time you up and left us for the old way of living.” Sam reminded you that you were the one that decided to go cold agent and return home.
“There isn’t anything wrong with a little quiet.” You told him as you looked back through the window to the children that were the opposite of quiet.
“No there isn't.” Sam agreed, “However, I got a situation here at the moment that I could really use your help with.”
“I guess it’s a bit bigger than the usual military op or you wouldn’t be calling?” You frowned. You were in the loop enough to know Sam had been apart of the airforce these past 6 months and had been taking part in frequent missions but nothing that concerned you.
“I’m sending you over the details now. I’d appreciate it if you could come.” Sam sent you through a file and you pulled your phone away from your ear to open it.
“You don’t need to convince me, Sam. I’ll be there since I know you wouldn’t ask unless it was serious.” You answered honestly.
“Guess I’ll be seeing you soon then.” You could practically hear Sam’s smirk through the phone.
“Depends how quick I can get a bag together and your jet can get me to you.” You told him as you picked up your jacket from the coat rack.
“Well it’s no Red Wing but it’s pretty fast.” Sam stated. “Oh and (Y/n)... You haven’t seen the news in the past hour or so, have you?”
“No? Why?” You frowned at the hesitation in Sam’s voice.
“Just... take a look.” Sam told you before you ended the call.
You opened up the news on your phone and what you saw made your mouth go dry and your stomach drop.
‘JOHN WALKER; NEW CAPTAIN AMERICA’
You felt an anger rise up in you as you watched the wannabe waltz onto screen with Steve’s shield in his paws.
When Sam gave up the shield, you didn’t know how to feel at first but now... now you weren’t surprised Sam didn’t elaborate on what he wanted you to see.
You said your apologies and your goodbyes pretty swiftly and you had already stashed an emergency bag ready to go under your bed so you were soon on your way.
It didn’t take terribly long to get to the air base where Sam was waiting for you.
“Who the hell is this guy and why is he calling himself the new Captain America?”
“Nice to see you too.” Sam wasn’t surprised at the attitude once you stepped off the plane.
“Sam, first you call me up to help deal with this wannabe terrorist group and now I just find out that Steve’s shield, which you gave up, is being held by some wannabe superhero.” You dumped your bag on the floor as you closed the gap between you and Sam.
“Trust me, I’m not happy about it either and I knew nothin about it but we have bigger fish to fry right now so can we cut the dramatic and get to actually saying hello?” Sam stared down at you with his hands on his hips.
You sighed and gave in.
You wrapped your arms around the man and hugged him warmly.
“I’m sorry. I just––”
“–I know.” Sam didn’t need your apology. He understood how you were feeling. You both loved Steve so much.
“Miss (Y/N)(Y/L/N), it’s a pleasure to meet you.” A voice brought your attention away from Sam to a man approaching you both.
“(Y/n), Torres. Torres, (Y/n).” Sam introduced you to the uniformed man and you shook his hand politely.
“Nice to meet you.” You weren’t sure if you had gotten used to the way most civilians looked at you after you became apart of the avengers. When you joined you didn’t realise becoming famous would be apart of the gig.
“I’m sorry to interrupt but Miss (Y/L/N) has to come with me to get logged into the clearance system and sort out a couple things.” Torres pointed over his shoulder as he explained.
“And by that he means sign an autograph for his kid sister.” Sam teased the man.
“What?” Torres’ cheeks tinged pink. “No!”
“It’s alright. Lead the way.” You picked up your bag and sent a quick smile to Sam before turning back to Torres. “Oh and you can call me (Y/n) by the way.”
It didn’t take too long for Torres to fill you in on Sam’s plan for the mission as he logged in a few details so you could have clearance around the airbase.
You did end up signing an autograph after a little tiptoeing around the question and then by the time you walked back out into the open you spotted someone you hadn’t expected to see.
It was Bucky.
“Looking good for a senior citizen.” You spoke up as you approached Sam and Bucky.
Bucky had his back to you but the sound of your voice soon paused his conversation with Sam and he spun around.
“Hey Buck.” You smiled but you couldn’t help but feel slightly nervous. “Long time no see.”
“(Y/n).” Bucky stepped forward and wrapped his arms around you.
You chuckled at his tight embrace but hugged him back just as tight all the same.
“You, uh, you look good.” Bucky cleared his throat as he pulled away from you.
“If you’ll excuse us, Casanova, we got places to be.” Sam tried to pull you away from Bucky but Bucky only followed.
“I’m coming with you.” Bucky announced.
“No, you’re not!” Sam argued.
You hadn’t missed the men’s bickering...
In spite of Sam’s protest, Bucky ended up on the flight anyway.
“So how’s it been away from the Avengers?” Bucky asked you as you both prepared for the mission.
Sam was up with Torres in the cockpit so you and Bucky were alone for the first time since you saw each other.
“It’s been okay. Spending time at home. Doing non-hero regular folk stuff.” You chuckled weakly as you pulled off your sweater. Bucky’s eyes fell to your chest as you had only wore a vest underneath. You felt your cheeks burn as you pretended not to notice.
“Uh, same.” Bucky cleared his throat before he spoke.. “Been strange without you around.”
“Buck, you know I needed time away from everything. From Sam, from you... After Steve, I...” You let your words drop away.
There was a short silence before Bucky decided to change the subject.
“I’ve been seeing a therapist. Court mandated. She’s got me doing this whole redemption thing. Contacting people in my past. Making things right.”
“And how’s that going for you?” You couldn’t help but smirk slightly at the idea of Bucky forcing himself to face his past at the request of a therapist.
“Well I have three rules I’m meant to stick to and let’s say I’m not exactly following them closely.” Bucky admitted as he folded his hoodie.
“Does your therapist know that?” You cocked an eyebrow at the man with a light amused expression.
“What do you think.” Bucky smirked back at you.
“Be careful. I might tell on you.” You sighed playfully.
“You’re actually on the list.” Bucky suddenly confessed. “I wanted to make things right after...” Bucky paused for a moment. “...After Steve. I should have warned you. Should have told you the truth.”
“Bucky.” You stopped him. “It’s okay. Steve made a choice and he chose to talk to you about it. You’re his best friend and the only other person on the team who could’ve really understood why he did what he did. I’m not holding it against you.”
“I’m still sorry.” Bucky looked you in the eyes as he spoke, “You were with him for so long when I wasn’t around. You should’ve got a real warning.”
“Thanks Buck.” You pressed your lips into a brief sad smile before looking down at your boots.
“I’ve really missed you, (Y/n).” Bucky uttered.
“I really missed you too.” You stopped tying your lace to look up at the man.
His short hair had really revealed his face and you couldn’t help but notice every part of it. The lines by his eyes when he smiled, the curve of his lips, the shadow that was just coming on.
You straightened up and stepped towards the man.
“I like the new haircut by the way.” You reached up and let your fingers brush the top of his forehead. “Makes you look almost like a civilian.”
Bucky couldn’t help but feel his body tense under your touch.
“You look tired though.” You let your hand drop down to his cheek. “Not been sleeping well?”
Bucky forced himself to move away from your touch.
“Bad dreams.” Bucky murmured.
“I figured therapy might have been helping you with those.” You frowned, “I remember sharing wake up duty with Steve like it was yesterday.”
“Every time it was your turn you’d make hot coco.” Bucky reminded you. It brought back images of you and Bucky sat in a small kitchen drinking hot chocolate that you had made despite Bucky’s insisting that he didn’t want any.
“Seems like a lifetime ago.” You smiled but the memories only made you feel dismal. It seemed those were simpler times. Steve was still around, at least.
Bucky handed you your jacket in the silence and you took it gratefully.
“I’m not interrupting something, am I?” Sam said rather loudly as he climbed down the ladder.
“No, we were just getting ready which is what you should be doing.” You picked up Sam’s bag and tossed it to him which he caught effortlessly. “I’m going to check a few things with Torres. Try not to kill each other whilst I’m gone.”
Bucky watched you climb the ladder up to the cockpit and Sam watched Bucky.
“I’ll never understand why you won’t just shoot your shot with the girl.” Sam shook his head as he opened his duffle.
“Shoot my what?” Bucky glared over at the man with confusion clear in his eyes.
“Your shot, man. (Y/n) has clearly been in love with you since Steve dragged your ass onto the team. What she sees in you compared to this, I’ll never understand but she clearly sees something.” Sam had gestured to himself when he spoke but Bucky just rolled his eyes.
“Maybe instead of talking about (Y/n), you should actually tell me what the plan is?” Bucky suggested as he zipped up his jacket securely.
“How about you stop avoiding your feelings?” Sam retorted which made Bucky shut up and sit down.
“I’m not avoiding my feelings.” Bucky grumbled as he glared at the man.
“Yeah right.” Sam scoffed, shaking his head as he started to change.
You didn’t return to the boys until you were approaching the drop off.
“(Y/n), you’ll be out first.” Torres explained as you put in your ear piece, trying your hardest to ignore Bucky and Sam starring daggers at each other behind you.
“Great. See you on the ground, fellas.” You jumped from the aircraft just as you heard Bucky ask what the plan was in your earpiece.
You had to jump earlier then the men since you were approaching the building from another angle but that didn’t mean you couldn’t hear them bicker still on the aircraft.
When you reached the warehouse, you remained hidden in the trees. You watched several people start to load two trucks with large boxes.
“You’re doing the staring thing again. They’re in there.” You heard Sam’s voice in your earpiece. He must have been talking to Bucky inside the warehouse.
“Where’s the guy?” Bucky asked.
“I don’t know. I think they’re smuggling weapons, though.” Sam responded before you could.
“Well, I think you could be right.” Bucky agreed with a passive aggressive tone. “But there’s only one way to find out. I see a clear path. I say we take it.”
“We’re not assassins.” Sam argued with Bucky.
“I’ll see you inside or not.” Bucky must've walked away from what you could hear.
“Hey, come on, man. I’m just messing with you! Come back.” You could practically see Sam’s smile in your head.
“If you guys are done, I have a visual on the targets. They’re loading up two red trucks.”
“We’re moving up now.” Bucky replied to you.
“Look at you. All stealthy.” Sam was teasing him. “A little time in Wakanda and you come out White Panther.”
“It’s actually White Wolf.” Bucky corrected him and Sam’s reaction almost made you laugh out loud.
You tried to move closer to the trucks to see exactly what was going inside but it was risky with the group constantly checking around them.
“All right, I’m inside. Therefore, way ahead of you. It’s not great, but very doable.” Bucky’s voice came up again. “Hello. How are you?” Bucky sounded irritated. Sam must've snuck up on him.
“Good. What did I miss? Nothing.” Sam whispered back.
“All right, let’s go.” Bucky commanded but Sam stopped him.
“No, wait.”
“I got a vibranium arm. I can take them.” Bucky held up his arm as he fought against Sam’s halt.
“And I can fly. Who gives a shit?” Sam muttered. “Wait. I want to see where they’re going.”
“Guys I may not be in the same location as you but I can hear everything you’re saying so quick the arguing” You whispered lowly as you kept your eyes trained on the trucks.
You tried to zone out the boys bickering as you crept forward. A crashing noise from inside the warehouse made you jump back and hide as the flash smasher members all stopped and looked.
“Be careful.” You hissed at the both of them.
“It wasn’t my fault.” Bucky tried to defend himself but frankly you didn't care. The trucks were staring to close up and their engines switched on.
You watched the people pile into the trucks and you dived over, taking hold of the backdoors and clinging on.
“They have a hostage.” Sam told you as the trucks drove off with you attached.
“Then get moving.” You commanded. You pulled open the door you were hanging to and opened it.
“No sight of a hostage in here.” You informed Sam as you looked around. “Just boxes of vaccines.”
“I found her.” Bucky must've gotten inside the other truck. “Hi. You okay?” Bucky’s voice was then followed by a crashing sound.
However, you had your own problems...
You heard a loud bang behind you and you turned to see two men at the end of the truck. They both had masks on.
“Cute masks.” You taunted them before they charged at you.
You threw three knives at them, two managed to hit one of the men in the thigh and chest but the second man had knocked the third one away.
You went to attack the uninjured one first as he drew closer, you punched him but he was strong. He didn’t even flinch.
You felt a small panic in your chest as you started to fight. He was taking moves that would usually floor someone like he was being attacked by a pillow.
You managed to get him to the ground by wrapping your thighs around his neck and flipping him over you before you threw another knife at the injured soldier. He seemed to retreat, climbing out of the truck and onto the roof.
“Could use some back up, Sam!” You called out as you followed.
You climbed up onto the roof and the first soldier chased after you. The injured one grabbed hold of Bucky along with a third guy and so you were left with the big one.
You heard Redwing shooting at the roof before you saw it but a redheaded female smashed it in half like it was but a plastic toy.
With that, Sam finally swooped in and started throwing punches.
He was thrown to the other roof as you continued to fight your own battle. You were getting tired and his punches seemed to only be getting stronger and more painful each time.
You pulled out another knife but he grabbed your wrist and squeezed. You couldn’t help but cry out at the pressure, you dropped it before he could break your wrist.
Then suddenly a helicopter appeared from what seemed like nowhere. Cap’s shield bounced off one of Sam’s attackers as two new bodies joined the fight.
The distraction allowed you to kick your attacker off the truck and start to help Bucky.
“Sam, John Walker; Captain America.”
“Lemar Hoskins.”
“Looks like you guys could use some help.” Walker and his sidekick introduced themselves.
A surge of rage from the introduction of ‘Captain America’ helped you regain some adrenaline. You turned and started to fight once again.
You let yourself become distracted as Bucky fell from the side of the truck which allowed one of the guys to send you off the truck too.
Sam was quick to fall back with his suit and grab you before you hit the concrete road. However, the impact of him grabbing you did leave you winded.
“Bucky.” You wheezed as the man settled you on the side of the road.
Sam flew up and chased after the trucks.
You took a moment, wincing at your aching body before you rose to your feet and took off in their direction.
You couldn’t catch up to the trucks but it didn’t take long to find Bucky and Sam once you spotted they were both coming out of a field.
“If someone told me I’d be fighting a whole bunch of super soldiers today I would’ve wore my nice pants.” You stated as you approached the two men.
“We knew they were strong but not like this.” Sam defended himself from your anger.
“One of those guys took a knife to the chest and could still walk away.” You threw your arms up as you informed him. This was so much worse than the documents had described.
“It’s going to take a lot more than just a knife to stop these guys.” Bucky’s eyes seemed to carry a storm as he thought.
“How can this be possible? I thought the super soldier serum was gone. What happened in Siberia was supposed to have put an end to it all.” You remembered the failed super soldiers as clear as day.
“We know about as much as you, (Y/n). Unless you tried to, you know, your weird seeing thing?” Sam asked.
“No. It takes it out of me and I can’t do it whilst I’m trying to fight for my life so.” You shook your head as you walked beside the men. Whilst you weren’t as powerful as some of the Avengers, you were a great assassin like Natasha Romanoff. Your talent was your knife throwing but under all the training and all the knowledge, there was a gift. A gift you’d had since birth.
If you touched someone, you could see their entire past, everything they had experienced up until that moment. It really drained you of your energy and over the years you trained yourself so that you could switch it on and off so it didn’t happen every time you touched someone but when you did use it, it usually required a lie down afterwards.
“Sorry about Redwing.” Bucky spoke up after a moment of silence.
“No, you’re not.” Sam rolled his eyes at the fake apology before asking: “What’s going on in that big cyborg brain of yours?”
“It’s computing.” Bucky grumbled.
“You know what? I can actually see it. I can see the gears turning. Oh, they’re malfunctioning, shutting down. Yep, they’re on fire.” Sam couldn’t help but make fun of Bucky which only made you walk ahead of the men. You weren’t in the mood for this.
“We gotta figure out where the serum’s coming from.” You said to stop their silliness.
“Yeah. And how in the hell after 80 years are there eight Super Soldiers runnin’ loose?” Sam agreed with you just as a transport vehicle began to pull up along side him.
“So that didn’t go as planned, huh?” John Walker’s voice penetrated the space like a foul smelling fart.
He opened the truck’s door to allow you all to hop in but you all ignored him.
“Alright. Let’s keep going.” He told the driver before directing his attention back to you. “Look, at least we know what we’re up against now, huh? And we’re pretty sure it’s one of the Big Three, so…”
"Aliens, androids, or wizards?” Sam spoke up just to prove to Bucky that others knew of the ‘Big Three.’
“Pretty sure.” Walker nodded.
“There’s no such thing as wizards.” Bucky exclaimed which made you cock an eyebrow at the man. You clearly missed a conversation here.
“Then it’s aliens, or androids.” Walker shrugged as if it were obvious.
“––Or Super Soldiers.” Sam added.
“Shit. Super Soldiers, for real?” Walker’s colleague responded with the reaction you just about expected.
“Yeah.” Sam confirmed.
“Wow. All right, well, then we gotta work together.” Walker’s eyebrows rose as he spoke.
“That’s not happening.” Bucky declared.
“I think we stand a much better chance if we all just––”
“––Just ’cause you carry that shield, it doesn’t mean you’re Captain America.” Bucky cut Walker short and you were grateful for it. The man was making your head ache.
“Look, I’ve done the work, okay?” Walker sighed.
“You ever jump on top of a grenade?” Bucky shot back but he wasn't met with the answer he wanted.
“Yeah. Actually, I have. Four times. It’s a thing I do with my helmet. It’s a reinforced helmet. It’s a long story, but, any… Look, it’s 20 miles to the airport. You guys need a ride.” Walker got his driver to stop. “Get in.”
You looked back at Sam and Bucky. You hadn’t said anything yet which Sam thought was a record of yours. You chose to give in and climbed into the truck with Bucky and Sam since your body was already aching from the previous fight.
“Okay, so we’ve got eight Super Soldiers on a bulk supply run. Why?” Walker asked, his eye on you as you sat in between Bucky and Sam.
“They say their mission is to get things back to the way it was during the Blip. Maybe they’re just trying to help.” Sam told Walker what he knew.
“They had a funny way of showing it.” Bucky grimaced as a bruise on his face started to form.
“That serum doesn’t exactly have a great track record. No offence.” Walker looked over at Bucky as he hinted at the winter soldier.
“We need to figure out where they’re going.” You wanted to shift the attention away from Bucky.
“She speaks? I have to admit I was starting to wonder.” Walker smiled at you which only made you want to punch him even more than you already did.
“How’d you track ’em here? The Flag Smashers?” Sam could tell you were a second away from decking the new Captain America and hopping ship so carried on the conversation.
“Uh, no, we didn’t track them, we tracked you, uh, through Redwing.” Hoskins notified Sam.
“You hacked my tech?” Sam was beyond irritated at this point.
“Sorry. It’s not exactly hacking. It’s government property. Kind of the government.” Walker laughed as he gestured to himself. “Does he always just stare like that?” He stopped laughing under Bucky’s stare.
“You get used to it.” Sam muttered.
“Okay, look, you know, things have gotten kind of, uh––”
“––Chaotic.”Hoskins helped Walker find the word.
“Yeah.” Walker cleared his throat. “The GRC, they’re doing the best they can to get things up and running smoothly, post Blip.”
“Reactivating citizenship, social security, healthcare. Basically just managing resources for the refugees who were displaced by the return.” Hoskins tried filling you in as if you hadn't heard about it before. The GRC propaganda was plastered across all the cities in America.
“The Global Repatriation Council does all that. We understand but why exactly are you two here?” You questioned, cocking your head towards Walker.
“Well, they provide the resources and we keep things stable.” Hoskins replied first.
“Yeah, violent revolutionaries aren’t usually good for anyone’s cause.” Walker added on.
“Usually said by the people with the resources.” Sam smirked at the men.
“Well, we got a lot of resources. If you guys, if you joined up with us, we could––”
“––No.” Bucky shut Walker down immediately.
“I got mad respect for both of y’all. But you were getting your asses kicked till we showed up.” Hoskins wasn’t helping the situation.
“Who are you?” Bucky asked genuinely.
“Lemar Hoskins.” Hoskins introduced himself once again.
“Look, I see a guy hanging out of a helicopter in tactical gear, I need a lot more than Lemar Hoskins.” Sam backed Bucky up on that one. A name was nothing in this situation.
“I’m Battlestar. John’s partner.” Hoskins nodded towards Walker and you couldn't stop the smile that spread across your lips when Bucky responded.
“Battlestar? Stop the car!” Bucky called up ahead.
The car slowed as it pulled into a bus stop. Bucky pushed open the door and you followed. You couldn't stand sitting in front of that man in that uniform another second longer.
"Look, I… I get it, okay? I get the attitude, I do. You didn’t think that the shield was gonna end up here. I get it, Bucky. And I’m… “ Walker turned back to Sam. “I’m not trying to be Steve. I’m not trying to replace Steve. I’m just trying to be the best Captain America I can be. That’s it. It’d be a whole lot easier if I had Cap’s wingmen on my side.”
Sam scoffed at Walker’s choice of words. Wingmen? He really had the audacity.
“It’s always that last line.” Sam jumped out of the vehicle and followed you and Bucky.
Tumblr media
Once back on the aircraft you stripped of your weapons and jacket.
Sam and Bucky did the same.
You sat down on your seat and rested your head back against the wall. You needed an ice bath. Your muscles were screaming at you.
“You alright?” Sam asked Bucky as he sat, his eyes locked on the floor.
You opened your eyes to look over at the men.
“Let’s take the shield, Sam. Let’s take the shield and do this ourselves.” Bucky sounded pretty decided.
“We can’t just run up on the man, beat him up, and take it. Do you remember what happened the last time we stole it?” Sam sat up slowly as he furrowed his brow at the idea.
“Maybe.” Bucky grumbled.
“I’ll help you in case you forgot.” Sam proclaimed, “Sharon was branded enemy of the state, and Steve and I were on the run for two years. I don’t know about you, but I don’t wanna live the rest of my life la vida loca. We just got our ass handed to us by Super Soldiers, and we got nothing.”
Even though you did spend some time in Wakanda under protection from their government, there was a period where you were on the run with Steve and Sam and it wasn’t fun. Being pardoned after the fight against Thanos was one of the best things that happened to you; it’s what allowed you to go home.
“Not entirely true.” Bucky pushed himself onto his feet. “There is someone that you should meet.”
Bucky’s eyes met yours and you knew who he was talking about.
You had seen Bucky's past. Everyone of Bucky’s memories. You had seen all the death and the pain and the fighting. You had seen the Winter Soldier and pre-world war Bucky and you had suffered for it for some time. Nightmares used to plague you but you had managed to block most stuff from your mind over the years. Especially the Winter Soldier memories because that wasn’t really Bucky; that was a weapon made by Hydra.
You had been forced by the team to check his memories to see if he really had bombed the UN but you couldn't choose how far you looked back, you gift made you see everything from the earliest childhood memory up to that moment.
You stood and approached Bucky.
“Are you sure about this?” You whispered, taking hold of Bucky’s forearm as you pulled him to one side.
“He should know.” Bucky’s eyes seemed so sure. You dropped your hand down from his arm to his hand and gave it a squeeze.
“Alright then.” You pressed your lips into a thin line as you accepted his choice.
Soon enough the route was changed and the plane turned.
“Will you come?” Bucky asked as the door to the plane opened.
“I’ll wait here but call me if you need me.” You didn’t feel like seeing Isaiah. Some of the time if something from Bucky’s past showed up it could trigger his memories in your own head which you didn’t particularly enjoy.
“Alright.” Bucky sighed but left without you.
Only a short while later you had received a phone call from Sam.
“Hello?” You answered.
“It’s Bucky. He’s been arrested. There was a warrant out for his arrest.” Sam informed you.
“Why?” You were confused. Bucky had been pardoned like the rest of you for his crimes and his warrant wiped.
“He missed his therapy session or something. I’m heading back to your, we gotta go get him out.” Sam hung up pretty quickly.
Tumblr media
“Why didn’t you tell anyone about the super solider?” Sam asked you as you made your way to the station.
“I only knew because I’ve been inside Bucky’s head but if I listed off every single person Bucky has fought or killed or wronged it would take me a while.” You hated admitting that but the Winter Soldier had done a lot of damage.
“But this was a black super soldier who rotted behind bars for years! Being experimented on like a lab rat whilst Steve sat in the ice and Bucky ran around playing secret assassin!” Sam was angry and you understood why.
“I didn’t know he was in prison. I only knew of him as the guy Bucky fought in Goyang and lost. I figured if Bucky wanted him found then he would say. It’s not my place, they’re not my memories.” You tried to defend yourself but you knew Sam would never understand your logic.
“How can I trust you if you’re sitting on information like that?” Sam catechised you.
“Because you’ve trusted me for years. I say what needs to be said and if it isn't useful to us at the time then I don’t bring it up. I have so much inside of here from people that aren’t even around more. When I go inside someone’s head the memories don’t just go away. Sometimes it’s hard to tell who’s memories I’m thinking of when I look back on things. I block what I can and deal with what I can’t.” You stopped Sam in the hallway as you snapped. You couldn’t believe he was questioning whether he could trust you or not after everything.
“I know it can be hard for you. I can’t imagine what its like but there are some things more important than others and Isaiah. Isaiah is one of them.” Sam’s words just made you turn and head to the desk.
You tried to get as much information about Bucky but all they instructed you to do was sit and wait.
“Sam?” A woman approached you and Sam. You lifted your head up at the sound of her voice. “I’ve heard a lot about you. I’m Dr. Raynor. I’m James’s therapist.”
You shook hands with the woman and introduced yourself.
“I’ve heard some about you too.” Dr. Raynor smiled as she greeted you.
“Thank you for getting him out.” Sam thanked her as he shook her hand but she only furrowed her brow.
“That was not me.” She told you both.
“Christina!” You didn’t need super hearing to recognise that voice. “Good to see you again!” Walker was signing autographs as he entered the station.
“You gotta be kidding me. You know him?” Sam only said what you were thinking.
“Yeah, we did some field ops back in the day.” Dr Raynor looked between Sam and Walker.
“I heard you were working with Bucky, so I thought I’d step in.” Walker approached her which made you stepped back. “Bucky’s not gonna be following a strict schedule any longer.”
“We haven’t finished our work. Who authorized this?” Dr Raynor protested.
“Um…” Walker pointed to himself. You felt a fire flare inside of you. “He’s too valuable of an asset to have tied up. Just do whatever you got to do with him, then send him off to me. Got some unfinished business, him and I.”
Walker then pointed to you and Sam.
“You too, Wilson. (Y/l/n). I’ll be outside.” Walker backed away, sending a wink in your direction.
You felt Sam take hold of your wrist quickly before you could even take the chance to lunge forward.
“Breathe.” Sam told you. “We’ll deal with that asshole later.”
Bucky was allowed through and Dr Raynor approached him immediately.
“James, condition of your release, session now. You too, Sam.” She insisted as she headed back towards the cells from which Bucky had just come from.
“That’s okay. I’ll be out here with (Y/n).” Sam brushed off the offer except it wasn’t an offer.
“That wasn’t a request.” Dr Rayor warned him.
You pushed the man forward.
“Quicker you’re in, quicker you’re out.” You told him.
“Why doesn’t she want you?” Sam pouted.
“Get moving before I get bored and decide to use John Walker out there as my new punching bag. Get myself in trouble.” You tried to make the man laugh but failed. He only groaned and dragged himself inside.
It didn’t take long for Sam to storm out of there who was swiftly followed by Bucky.
“Hey, you okay?” You asked Sam as he returned to you.
“Peachy.” He sneered.
You sighed and followed both men outside.
“Well, I feel better.” Sam announced once you were all finally outside.
“I feel awful.” Bucky muttered which made you want to take his hand but you refrained as a siren drew your attention over to Walker and his buddy.
“Gentlemen. Lady. Good to see you again.” Walker had a smile on that you wanted to wipe clean off. “ Look, if we divide ourselves, we don’t stand a chance, you guys know that.”
“Well do you have anything that’s actually useful?” You folded your arms across your chest as you closed in on the men.
"Well, the leader’s name’s Karli Morgenthau. We’ve been targeting civilians who’ve been helping Karli move from place to place.” Walker started.
“They geotagged a location, then scrambled the signal. But our satellites have found their symbol popping up in various displaced communities all across Central and Eastern Europe.” Hoskins continued.
“We think she’s taking the medicine she just stole to one of these camps.” Walker finished.
“Well, there are hundreds of those all over the planet since the Blip. So I guess you’ll have to look real hard.” Bucky’s glowered at the man as he leant on the cop car.
“Good thing I have 20/20 vision, huh?” Walker smirked as he snapped back.
“Where is she now, Walker? Do you know?” Bucky rose his voice.
“No, we don’t know, Bucky. It’s only a matter of time before we find out.” Walker rose his voice also.
“Things are really intense for you, aren’t they, Walker?” Bucky was being cocky. You had to stop yourself from finding it amusing.
“Take it easy. Look, Walker’s right. It is imperative that we find them and stop them. But you guys have rules of engagement and all kind of authorizations you have to get. We’re free agents. We’re more flexible. So it wouldn’t make sense for us to work with you.” Sam interrupted and seemed to clear the air a little. You took his last words as a chance to leave but Walker wasn’t done.
“A word of advice, then.” Walker stopped you all. “Stay the hell out of my way.”
You watched the two men walk away. Your jaw clenching together to stop you from saying something you’d regret.
“Come on.” Sam urged you on and you forced yourself to walk away.
Once you were far enough from the station Sam asked you both what you were thinking.
“Well, I know what we have to do. When Isaiah said ‘my people’...” Bucky was the one of out you both to speak first.
“Oh, don’t take that to heart. That’s not what he meant.” Sam began.
“No, he meant HYDRA. HYDRA used to be my people.” Bucky corrected him.
“Not a chance.” You shook your head, putting your foot down.
“Walker doesn’t have any leads.” Bucky claimed.
“Bucky, I know where you’re going with this and I’m saying no.” You couldn’t believe he was even suggesting it.
“He knows all of HYDRA’s secrets.” Bucky tried to reason with you.
“Don’t you remember Siberia?” Sam also knew exactly what Bucky meant.
Bucky nodded.
“So you’re just gonna go sit in a room with this guy?” Sam stared at Bucky with a mixture of shock and concern.
“Yes.” Bucky was hesitant to answer which only made you hate this idea even more.
“Okay, then.” Sam sighed. “We’re gonna go see Zemo.”
“No! No, we aren’t not going to see Zemo!” You demanded causing both the boys to stop.
“(Y/n), it’s different now.” Bucky declared.
“It’s the only lead we got.” Sam was actually on Bucky’s side.
“What? And you think he’s just gonna help us like that?” You scoffed out of disbelief.
“We have to try.” Bucky started to walk again.
“I trust this guy about as far as I can throw him, Buck!” You exasperated.
“That’s more than me.” Sam murmured but you chose to ignore it.
“(Y/n). We’re going.” Bucky wasn't arguing anymore. It was going to happen.

Well damn, seems like rnm is gonna end up being a Favorite Show that i’ll never actually watch more than a third of.
Like i binged s1 in maybe 3 days and then got 4 episodes into s2 and I’ve spent the past year and a half waiting for the writers to realize what they have and finally start doing the characters justice so I can pick it up again, and now that we’re halfway through the final season that’s just not happening, is it?
And i am not a Quality TV snob, I will watch any amount of shit and enjoy it for what it is, but the one thing that turns me off a show faster than anything else is the writing not showing respect for the characters or for the audience, or both, since those things so often go hand in hand. And I don’t have the time or patience to go through the myriad ways rnm has done both (multiple ways! how diverse!) but if you’re reading this and you watch the show then you know.
But it’s pretty much summed up by how they’re treating Alex/malex this season. It’s not that Alex is gone—I get that RL shit happens. It’s how they deal with Alex being gone. It’s how this show has never known what to do with its offscreen characters, and Alex for whatever reason (cough) always gets the worst of it, and that disrespects his character and by extension Michael’s too. And disrespects their relationship by always keeping it so separate from everything else, even when there’s no longer any narrative reason to. And disrespects the large chunk of the audience who watches primarily for that relationship, by talking up malex so much behind the scenes and then sidelining Alex without a care again.
It would have been so easy to fix that for me, personally, this season too—all they had to do was make Michael notice Alex was gone, and start trying to do something about it. That’s it! No additional Alex screen time needed, just people reacting to his absence in a way that goes beyond “this mildly inconveniences us because he’s not here to be useful, oh well moving on.” Just Michael going, “Hey, the love of my life has been incommunicado for a while, and that concerns me.” Not… whatever they have going on now.
I’ve actually watched so comparatively little of this show that it should be relatively easy for me to let it go. But from the start, Michael and Alex’s relationship was so goddamn compelling that I just can’t. There was something magical about the vast majority of s1, of which malex was a huge part, that got lost along the way, and I kept hoping it would get picked up again, but it won’t, will it? Like I saw someone else mention on here—this show excels at setting up compelling relationships and situations and story beats, and then just dropping them never to be heard from again.
I still think the pilot episode is one of the most perfect ~40-45 minutes of television ever aired. The characters are masterfully established. The last scene is haunting. It promises so much. For a while, it even seemed like the rest of the show might follow through on that promise. RNM in general, and malex in particular, had so much goddamn potential, and seasons 2-4 are just a master class in squandering it.
But on the other hand it seems like the next episode is named after a Sleater-Kinney song, so… there’s that?
At least I’m relatively sure malex will end the season, and the series, in a happy place. But that’s not really enough to make the intervening episodes worth watching. Not if the journey there is more infuriating than anything else.

Ahh, thank you for the tag!! I love doing these and your post genuinely made me smile and kick my feet🥰 let’s get into it.
1. Been into the show since it first came out! I remember waiting for the weekly episodes to come out whilst doing my homework.
2. Tech absolutely. I don’t know, he just really appeals to me?? Always has been always will be my fav <3
3. I hope no one comes at me for this but I honestly didn’t like Wrecker at first. Idk why, but i love him now!
4. That’s tough but I’d have to say… Phee or Rex.
5. Oh God. Probably Tech or Omega or Echo lol. For various reasons for each of them
6. I’m a sucker for villains so I’d have to say Hemlock, (kinda?) he’s just a character who’s so inherently evil. Hate him as a person but he’s a wonderful character.
7. Crosshair absolutely. He’s be like “Oh, you did something bad? I’ve got body bags and a solid alibi.”
8. Omega and Wrecker!! They’d make sure everyone has the appropriate amount of pillows and popcorn.
9. I can't exactly think of anything right now, not to toot my own horn or anything but I'm pretty observant.
10. Um I have a ton of headcanons in a google doc but it's far too long to put on here so I'd have to say (not weird but) when they got back to Pabu Omega took to collecting seashells to make necklaces for everyone once a year. (There's a tree with seashell jewelry on it next to Tech's goggles.)
11. Every inch of this show is worshipped by us fans, but a favourite of mine from S2 is "I may process moments and thoughts differently, but that does not mean I feel any less." -Tech
12. Eriadu. It's ridiculous how this scene stuck with me since it aired, but his death actually made me cry.
13. Writing and posting about my fic (which I need to start doing more!!) And just doing anything I can because it has a special place in my heart where all my fandoms live <3
14. Wrecker, definitely, and Hunter I think. He'd be screaming his lungs out and then come off it and grumble, "This never happened" before he goes away to vomit.
15. Hunter and Echo give oldest, Wrecker and Tech are the middle children although Tech does sorta give youngest, (somewhere in the middle) and Crosshair and Omega are the youngest IMO.
16. S2 EP4, Tech's racer episode. Or Reunion (S1 EP8) Or Ruins of War (S2 EP2) or the S3 finale.
17. Again, people are gonna come for me but probably The Outpost. Idk, it just didn't have what I wanted, personally. Or any of the ep's without the Batch as a focus. Call me needy/selfish, but...
18. Coming home from school and plonking my bag down, getting in pyjamas and grabbing my laptop to crawl into bed and watch the newest episode. Also buying my Tech action figure. He's pretty cool.
19. Mean Girls, 100%
20. Everything. The little debates over stuff, sharing headcanons and art, and everyone participates in some way or another. Fanfictions, art, animation, music, incorrect quotes, tiktoks, it's all beautiful.

Candy House - Electric Utopia: Chapter 2
Characters: Sora & Natsume Season: Spring
TL Note:
There seems to be a lot of ambiguity surrounding Kirarai Dearu’s pronouns, but I wanted to specifically point out here that Natsume refers to them as a “she” in-game (in this specific event story).
Tumblr media
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ< Almost an hour later. On a footpath near the ES building. >
Tumblr media
Sora: HaHa~♪ What great weather~!
The plants and trees are in full colour and spring is in the air! It’s a season where both plants and people can fall in love and be happy~♪
Natsume: HeHE. I thought the area surrounding ES would be more artificial like a sci-fi dystopia, but it’s surprisingly lush and greEN.
It’s perfect for strolling with our hands connectED – just like what we’re doing right nOW.
Sora: It’d be hell for people with pollen allergies, though! HiHi~♪
Natsume: You seem to be in rather high spirits, SoRA. Did the sunshine put you in a good moOD?
Sora: Sora made a very nice friend recently!
Natsume: (...A frieND? Is he referring to Hajime-kun, who he was chatting to befoRE?)
(Well, Sora does have a tendency to call dogs, birds or even inorganic substances friends, thouGH.)
Sora: HuHu~♪ They’ve been friends with Sora since Sora was little! Sora was able to meet them after many years and…
In other words, it’s like Master~ and Senpai~ It’s a fateful reunion…☆
Natsume: I never asked to be reunited with hIM.
Anyway, it’s rare for you to talk about your childhood, SoRA.
Back then, you were far more detached from realiTY – or rather, detached from humaniTY – so it must’ve been difficult for you to tell us about your experiences as they would’ve been so different from ouRS.
It would be the same as telling someone else the interesting dream you had last night and expecting them to understaND.
Sora: HeHe~ Sora doesn’t think he can do a good job explaining, either~ Sora has never been good at that!
But it’s Sora’s precious friend, so Sora would love to introduce them to Master~ and Senpai someday~♪
Natsume: I’d love thAT.
But before that, we need to do something about the unsophisticatedness of that Mophead, so he won’t be an embarrassment to yOU.
Your friend would also worry, wondering if that Mophead would be fit to be your guardiAN.
Sora: …Master~ has a point. Senpai’s colour has definitely become more cloudy after becoming a member of society, so Sora’s worried.
Natsume: It looks like he’s having a tough tiME. After all, he’s had to take over our absent president’s woRK. It’s only his first year working there after entering society, but he already has the look of a corporate slaVE.
Thanks to that, “Switch” lagged behind after the starting pistol was shOT. It’s all because Senpai has his hands full and can’t move or do anythiNG.
Well, they do say slow and steady wins the race and I suppose that also applied to us last yeAR.
I do feel restless whenever I hear about the magnificent stories of the other units, thouGH.
Sora: …………
Natsume: Naturally, there’s no need for you to worry, SoRA. I’ve got a plan to turn this situation around and it’s all going smoothLY.
So don’t be discouraged and focus on your growth, SoRA…
Sora: Speaking of unit activities…
Natsume: Hm? What are you talking aboUT?
Sora: Is “S1-NON”, or Jime-chan, that popular on the internet?
Natsume: Who knoWS? At this point, I suppose only the ones who know would knOW. Maybe it’s because I haven’t been checking the latest internet trends as much as I used tO.
Sora: So by the sounds of it, it’s not something that everyone would know? Then why did “they” know?
They said they can’t physically go outside, so they don’t really know what’s happening in the world.
Oh, so is that why they know a lot about what’s trending on the internet?
Natsume: HmM… Virtual idols may be growing in popularity at the moment, but it’s still a new concePT. People are focusing their attention on it because it has a bright futuRE.
Kirarai Dearu was an outliER – She[⁎] was treated like an apparition.
She was a unique existence that wasn’t mass producED. That’s also precisely why she was able to continue shining as the industry’s star without ever having that position stolEN.
But the era has changed and people are paying more attention to what’s happening on the internet as opposed to real liFE…
I think even the bigshot behind the virtual idol industry is also starting to feel anxioUS.
Maybe that’s why they tried to train Hajime-kun to be her successOR?
Virtual idols are growing like mushrooMS. In order to enhance the value of their own “brand” within the countless riffrafFS…
They wanted to show that the Kirarai Dearu archetype is the most prestigious in the world of virtual idoLS.
Sora: But Jime-chan didn’t want to be “Pretty Girl Senpai’s” successor, though~ He seems pretty reluctant about it.
Natsume: I can see wHY. The more thorough a character is created in terms of personality, background and the like, the less the virtual idol actor can be themselvES.
It doesn’t matter if their character becomes super popular or is showered in praiSE. It just feels like it’s their character getting all that attention insteAD.
Sora: Where is the line between them and their character?
It’s complicated~... Sora was never any good at telling that apart.

Black Tea & Blushes — L. Ackerman
summary: The two of you never got along, but there were times that even fire and ice made a perfect pair.
warnings: cursing, no spoilers for anything past early s1, Levi’s a little shit at first (surprise, surprise), mentions of blood (they’re fighting titans :-) lol) gn!reader (no pronouns mentioned)
genre: semi-canonverse, fluff, enemies to lovers (?)
word count: 3.3k
a/n: this was very self-indulgent lmao, sorry if it’s a bit messy 😭, <Hange, Connie & Sasha3 make an appearance bc I love them and you should too, hope you enjoy it <3
Tumblr media
"Couldn't you have gotten a cadet to do this?"
You raised a sharp brow at the man, trying to keep yourself from flipping his desk over. "Would you have yelled at them like you just yelled at me?"
The man's grey eyes didn’t meet yours, but there was a scowl on his face. Despite his steely eyes, he didn't say anything back. Instead, he pursed his lips and turned back to continue his paperwork.
You huffed in an attempt to ground yourself after being yelled at for the past two minutes. You took a sip from your own cup of the tea you had prepared for him, letting yourself savor the taste.
"I don't understand." you said, tasting the earthy, black tea. "You said it was too cold last time, so I made sure it was extra warm. What's wrong with it? Is it too sour for you? I only added a few drops of lemon this time."
Levi remained silent, but you stood your ground, tapping your boot against the pavemented floor as you waited at his desk for an answer. You wouldn't let him win, not this time. Day after day, it seemed like he only grew ruder and ruder.
Your dislike for Levi Ackerman started the day you met him. He was still just a soldier when you joined the Survey Corp, and it wasn't long after that he become Captain.
He was mean, and he never seemed to care about anything, but God forbid you make a reckless move out in the field. It was as if all hell broke loose if you used a bit too much gas when slicing the nape of a Titan's neck.
"Not everyone is Humanity's Strongest." you had spat at him when he scolded you on the way back to the walls. That only earned you a glare, seeing as Hange managed to secure your safety. If it weren't for them, you were certain you would've gotten stuck with stable duty for a month's end.
You were glad he was nice to them, at least.
At some point, you got promoted to Captain as well. One would think that since you shared the same rank, he would grow warmer to you, but that was another one of your mistakes.
Everything about him rubbed you the wrong way, from his disagreeable manners to his awful way of speaking to soldiers. And, it was your disdain for him that got you stuck in this mess.
"A cadet could've done this." Levi stated again; you felt like you were being patronized. He raised a brow at you, holding the teacup in his hand. "A cadet could’ve made better tea than you.”
"Obviously not, Captain." you threw back sourly, snatching the cup from his hand. "A cadet could not have done this because if I hadn't interfered two weeks ago, who knows what you would've done to the poor man. And, all he did was make your tea wrong!”
Levi blinked at you, appearing bored with your conversation. "If you hadn't interfered, that soldier would be back with those good for nothing Military Police Officers doing what they're best at."
You gritted your teeth. "And, what are they good for, Captain Ackerman?”
His brow twitched slightly. “Absolutely nothing."
You let out a bitter laugh, placing the white ceramic teacups back on the tray you had brought in. "Now that you say it out loud, that reminds me a lot of someone I know."
"What an awful way to talk about yourself.” Levi threw back with ease.
The urge to roll your eyes at him was weighing on you, but you were stronger than the immaturity he seemed to bring out in you. "Captain, you must be growing old if you've already forgotten we're the same rank."
Your decision of keeping yourself calm in his presence payed to be of use when you noticed the slight pause in his pen strokes at your words.
But, you were well aware of how trustworthy Levi was in the sense that you knew he could always come back with something even worse than what he's told you before.
"If you were of any use, you would know what's wrong with your tea. I'm sure even King Fritz could tell good tea from awful tea, and he's the most useless of them all." Levi told you, pen moving over the papers in front of him swiftly.
"He could probably also tell a grown man from a spoiled brat," you told him, taking the tray with you as you left his office. "But, you make even that task seem impossible."
You had to stop the triumphant grin from growing on your face when you heard his faint scoff from the other side of the wooden door.
Even if you managed to snag the last word of that argument, it didn’t feel as good as it usually did. The only reason you involved yourself in Levi Ackerman’s nightly tea was because 1) you didn’t like the way he spoke to the poor soldier who got stuck with job of handling it, and 2) Erwin asked that you try and be a bit nicer to your fellow captain.
You only did it to keep your job, really, and you would never let your Commander think less of you, even if he did favor Levi. Even Hange had tried to coax you into not letting The Ackerman’s sharp tongue get to you, but that didn’t seem to work.
Levi and you would never be friends, if that’s what Erwin meant when he pulled you aside at supper a few nights before. It was a lie to say you didn’t admire the man’s impressive skills, because you did.
But, admiration and respect were two separate things.
The two of you were jagged edges of broken glass that didn’t fit together, and that was perfectly fine. You didn’t mind being Levi being a sharp piece of glass, just as long as he kept his corners to himself and far from you.
Erwin, as observant as usual, caught on to the solution to your problem, and he even made sure you and Levi would rarely ever cross paths when the Scouts were out on an expedition. The two of you worked on opposite sides of the formation.
The only time you would ever work together would be if there were no other options, but both of you were reliable in your own senses: him with his... whatever he called it, and you with your wits.
You didn't mind being farthest from him, and if it were up to you, you'd go even farther.
“Hey, you got new glasses.” you stated, noticing the new pair of brown frames that Hange wore the morning as the Scouts waited for the signal to begin the expedition.
“Oh, don’t remind me.” they said with a frown, holding the glasses in their hands. “Last night, Moblit and I were doing some research, and someone must’ve stolen my glasses because I couldn’t find them this morning.”
“Stole? Isn’t that a big accusation?”
They let out a hearty laugh. “It is! That’s why I’m saying it!” Hange replied, golden eyes widened at you in exasperation. “I’ve been stuck with these, and they’re too big for my face. All they do is fall off.”
“So maybe don’t wear them?” you wondered as you caught a glimpse of the dark head of hair you knew too well. “What’ll you do if you lose them out in the field? Better safe than sorry.”
“I wish, but I’m as blind as a bat without them.” Hange reasoned with a sigh before quickly composing themselves. “But, now that you mention it, I never did mind a challenge.”
The smirk growing on their face was one you didn’t quite like. Before you could talk some sense into them (if that were even possible) the signal went off to begin the mission.
They gave a wide smile and a thumbs up as a good luck token. "Don’t do anything crazy!” you called out when the two of you parted ways, taking your squad with you. “I mean it, Hange!”
Hange waved you off, charging in faster in their horse. It was up to poor Moblit to chase right after them.
Your squad remained close together for the majority of the mission. There wasn't much to do on your end of things, which was a relief. At some point, you decided to stop for a quick break before pushing forward.
If you were able to see five mintues into the future, you would never have let your squad talk you into taking a lunch break. Just as you were relaxing a bit, there was an Abnormal coming from the thick trees.
Your sense of smell wasn't as skilled as Miche, and if it weren't for one of the younger cadets on your squad who had a keen sense of hearing, you all would've been Titan food.
It didn't take long for you to spring into action, your squad following suit. You made sure to use the plans Erwin had issued out on previous Scout meetings.
When the Abnormal finally made it to where you and your squad stopped, the beastly creature managed to catch one of your soldiers in midair. As the young boy was raised in the air, his stomach couldn't contain his recent lunch.
Gravity works in wonders, you thought when his earlier lunch fell onto you with a splat! You couldn't blame the poor boy; it was better upstairs than downstairs. As terrible a feeling it was to have chunky vomit all over you, you knew it would be as even worse feeling if the boy died under your care.
Your squad got to him before any damage was permanent, at least physically. When the killing blow was done, you tended to your soldier. He muttered out apologies for having thrown up on you, but you were merely in the line of fire.
"It's okay, Connie." you reassured him after pulling off your green cape that had been soiled in aid to shield you. “I’d rather it be your lunch on me than your organs.”
You ordered that he ride with your other cadet, Sasha. He let out a pained laugh at your words, leaning against her on her horse. She scolded him for “wasting so much food,” to which lead to their silly banter, which you didn’t mind as long as they were safe.
As unfortunate as it was, that incident wasn't the last of it. There wasn't much time between Connie getting his ribs crushed by a Titan and the numerous amount of red flares that were being shot into the air.  The amount of red powder in the sky was enough to cast a shadow of worry over you.
By the time your squad made it to where the red flares had been signaled, it was a mess. Abnormal and Pure Titans were ambushing the rest of whatever was left of the Survey Corp. Your squad wasted no time in following your orders as you made a beeline for the trees where a group of Abnormals were huddled together.
When you finally got a good look at the scene in the forest, your sight was met with Titan smoke and blood of fallen comrades. It was a disaster, as it always was. But you knew, where there was smoke, there was definitely fire.
And, that fire was Humanity’s Strongest Soldier.
He looked ablaze, nothing but a flash in the distance. Slicing Titan limbs as if they were merely flowers in his way, Levi Ackerman was kicking ass. It was in moments like this — where he looked like the answer to all the prayers of the people inside the walls — that you wondered if you truly hated him all along.
“Section Commander!” Moblit cried, chasing after Hange as they swung on the highest tree of the forest. It seemed as though they forgot all about how loose their glasses were as they did a number of twirls in the air. His voice was enough to snap you out of your trance and assist your fellow comrades.
You managed to fight off three Pure Titans and two Abnormals for what seemed like forever. It might’ve been even worse if not for Connie Springer’s lunch all over you that acted as Titan Repellant.
Perhaps you would tell Hange of your new discovery, but every time you managed to get close to them while fighting off the Titans, all they did was badger you with questions upon questions.
“Are you sure you haven’t you seen them?!” Hange cried for the fifth time, eyes squinted at you from their branch opposite you. Moblit was fighting off a creepy Abnormal with ugly teeth a few feet from you.
“No, I haven’t! And, didn’t I tell you your glasses would fall if you took them with you?!” you shouted back from your place on the tree before taking a breath to try to slice the neck of your second Pure Titan. “Go back to the wagon, Hange, before you get yourself killed!”
They huffed and puffed, but they let Moblit guide them to the wagon to wait until the rest of the Scouts could find a moment to retreat back to the walls.
After finally slicing the nape of your final Titan, you looked over to where you had last seen Levi. Only, he was nowhere to be found. A panic set in when you couldn’t find any sight of him.
“Captain?” you called out from your place on a tree branch where you were catching your breath. You squinted your eyes to get a farther look, but it didn’t help that much. “Captain Ackerman, are you there? Do you—”
But, that’s when you felt a jostle of wind hit your back. You turned quickly to see the dark-haired man swinging through the trees, holding an unconscious Oluo.
You followed him, figuring if you took his squad member off his hands that Levi would have a better chance of taking down more Titans. Maybe even with a man who weighed far more than himself in his hands, Levi could still have a better chance than you.
“Captain, I’ve got him. I’ll take—”
But, Levi wouldn’t budge. It was like he wasn’t listening to you, and you didn’t know if it was by choice or coincidence. You huffed and rushed quicker to help him in carrying Oluo.
Maybe it was just your luck, or maybe it was just his, but right before you managed to reach him, a Titan’s jaw came from below him, wide and ready for lunchtime.
There was nothing for him to do, not with his hands full. Surely he knew that from the way his grey eyes finally broke through from that awful void he’d placed you in, the one where all you ever got from him was scoldings and insults and cold stares that often made you wonder if he actually did hate you.
And, for the first time, you saw panic flash through his grey eyes, his life flash before his eyes.
“Levi!” you cried, using the rest of your ODM gear’s gas to catch up to him. You knew if he were to survive such an event, he would scold you for wasting your gas on an old lump like him.
But, for once, Levi had something to say about you that didn’t regard your incompetence to make decent tea or your recklessness that spurred you to use all your gas just to save him and the bullheaded, baboon by the name of Oluo.
It was your astonishing speed.
You got to the two men right before the great wide jaws of the Titan could snap closed and swallow the three of you for its meal, which Levi had to admit (but probably never would) was quite impressive.
“Shit!” you hissed out when the three of you landed on another tree branch. As quick as you got to the branch was as quick as Miche was to come and ensure your safety, slicing the Titan’s nape with ease.
Oluo was still unconscious and a little bloodied up and battered, but he was safe.
“What the hell were you thinking?!” Levi yelled, voice slightly hoarse from everything that had just happened. His hair was a mess, and you held back a laugh at the sight of him. “Why— why would you? I mean, what— and, why do you smell like—”
“A thank you is perfectly fine, Ackerman.” you coughed out, catching your breath from the overexertion you just forced yourself through. Carrying two grown men was tough, especially when it was between life or death. “As for the smell, one of my soldiers threw up on me.”
Levi blinked at you, his expression consisting of disgust and confusion. “What?”
“My soldier. He threw up on me earlier.”
“I heard you the first time.” he told you, blinking quickly as if it were going to grant him some clarity. You didn’t know if his confusion was from your act of saving him and his squad member or from not knowing what to say to you after.
He looked funny, with his hair that of a bird’s nest and his cheeks flushed pink.
“Did you hit your head on the way down?”
“W-what?”
“Your head? Did you hit it?”
“No, I-I’m fine.” he scrambled upright, finding purchase on the unconscious Oluo’s shin. Your eyes flickered to where his hand was placed, and he snatched it right off immediately, burning a deeper shade of pink.
“Oh.” you muttered, holding back a chuckle. There was no way Levi was without a concussion, not with the way he was acting all of a sudden: stuttering and turning pink on you. It was a wonder you caught up to him before he collapsed.
“Are you sure you’re okay, Captain?” you asked again, fixing your uniform before getting to your feet. You wobbled a bit; Levi raised a brow at you. “You look sick. Why don’t you sit in the injury wagon for a bit on the way back? Just in case.”
He waved you off, standing on his two feet as well. You didn’t want to cause a fight, not right after what had just happened and not outside the walls, so you decided to say nothing about his seeming concussion.
The two of you lifted Oluo off the ground, blood seeping from the side of the man’s mouth. “Is it his ribs? Was it an Abnormal? They were awful today.” you questioned, looking to Levi for answers.
“He bit his tongue, again, before ramming into a tree.” Levi told you, averting his gaze from you as he shifted the man against his shoulder for a better grip. “He said something f-fell from the sky.”
You nodded, letting yourself chuckle. “What could it’ve been? Bird shit?”
Levi shrugged at your words.
He was far too quiet for your liking. Maybe he did have a concussion. It wouldn’t be good if he rode back like that. Perhaps if you spoke to Erwin or Hange about it, one of them could convince Levi to get checked out once you got back to the walls.
The two of you managed to get back to the rest of the Scouts safely. You helped Levi placing Oluo in the wagon with the wounded and the fallen while everyone else was getting accounted for.
All the while, Hange was trying to persuade Erwin into letting them form a search party for their glasses that had fallen while they were swinging on the trees.
Though you were straining to listen to their conversation, you were more than certain that Erwin would never allow such a thing, but you had to admire Hange’s efforts, as fruitless as they were.
“Thank you.”
You snapped your head to Levi.
He refused to meet your gaze again, busying himself with readjusting his soldier’s cape. If not for the obvious step into uncharted territory between the two of you, you would’ve commented on the rosy blush he adorned.
Suddenly, you were overcome with a laughter, waving him off with your hand quickly. “I was just joking about that, Captain. Sorry, I don’t mean to laugh, but I’m just surprised you actually—”
He scoffed, the expression on his face shifting to one of impatience. “Don’t be a brat. Just take the compliment.” Levi huffed out, visibly annoyed with your chatter.
A look of shock overtook your face. “Oh, so you’re complimenting me? Why didn’t you just say so, then?”
“Oi, that’s not what I meant—”
“No, it’s fine. I heard you, loud and clear.” you interrupted, smiling widely at him. “You’re oh-so very welcome, Captain Ackerman, and if you ever need me to save your ass again, you know where to find me.”
Levi opted to say nothing back, merely shaking his head at you when you gave a lazy salute and started back to the other side of the formation where your horse and squad awaited you.
“Besides,” you shrugged, turning back for a moment to catch him looking at you. “Who else would teach me how to make tea?”

note: I don’t think I specified it, but Oluo was knocked unconscious bc some object (Hange’s glasses) fell from the sky lmao 🐸

Note
I don't know if you've paid any attention to this but do you know the official ages of the main characters? You've always paid attention to little details so i feel like you'd be the right person to ask this to.
Hi anon! ❤️ I’m SO SO sorry this took so long!
I appreciate you thinking of me for this - I have in fact paid attention to this 😂 I know about the general age of some characters, and I know within a year of others (depending on when their birthday is they may have aged up already!)
Bobby - 54. He says in the pilot that he’s 50 years old, and so you figure he’s at least 54 by now, if not 55 if his birthday was between January (when the pilot aired) and now!
Athena - mid 50s. In Athena Begins, I feel like it’s safe to assume she’s around 22 or 23, since she’s in law school but not close to finishing (and I really don’t think she took a gap year), and that was 1989, so she was *probably* born around 1966-67. Which would put her around 54-55 right now, which fits with how old Bobby is!
Hen - 41. She says in Future Tense that she joined med school at 40 (if she’s not rounding for dramatics). Since she got into med school last year in the s3 finale, I’d say 41 now. If she did just say 40 bc it was easy, I’d still say she’s between 39-42 now, bc she’d have to be close in age to 40 to round so automatically like that imo. But at this point I’m going with a simple 41.
Chim - Late 30s to early, early 40s. Chim is one of the two I really don’t have a good idea on. Chimney Begins is set in 2005, and he’s at least 21, since we see him drinking beer in that episode. So he was born sometime before 1984, which would make him 36 right now if he was exactly 21 then, but I think he’s a little older than that, since he’s been working in the bar for a while before the fire. I can’t remember any other details that would give him a more specific age, so if someone does and can provide them I would love to add them! Personally I’d say 39-40, bc I think he’s a little older than Maddie but not by much. I can say however that he has a March birthday! EDIT - thanks to the wonderful @shannon-diaz who remembered that we see Chim’s birthday on his license in 2x10 (you can see the pic provided in the notes!) HOWEVER! I want to make a disclaimer (which I would like to emphasize is not me trying to argue against the lovely Ann at all, she’s absolutely right about this, I just wanna say this) - they have already been changing Chim’s birthday since then, since the license says 10/20/1977 and they’ve since moved his birthday to March. So it’s absolutely possible that they’ve decided to change his age as well. BUT! At the point this was shown, they’d already committed to Madney becoming a thing, so it’s likely they thought about how old Maddie and Chim were in relation to one another. What I don’t know is if they thought about Maddie’s age before then, or if they put it off until they had to during the Daniel arc. All of this is to say - right now, as of end of s4, the best info we have says Chim is 44. But I could also absolutely see the writers pulling a switcharoo on the poor props crew and changing his age, since they’ve already discarded the birth date. So I say, go forth and know that Chim is 44! But also please don’t get mad at me if that information changes in the future 😂
Buck - 29. During the entire Buck Begins arc, they say multiple times that the family has been hiding a secret from him for 29 years, etc etc. In the Valentine’s Day ep in s1, Abby says Buck is 26. And in Kids Today (the opener to s3) Maddie specifically mentions he’s 28. So I’m most sure about Buck, out of everyone, esp since Oliver himself is 29. I think he’s the character where they’re sticking closest to the actor’s actual age.
Maddie - around 37. We know Maddie was 9 when Daniel died (Chim says she made the promise to not talk about Daniel when she was 9). Since Daniel died a little over a year after Buck was born, that puts Maddie around 8 at the time Buck was born, making her 37 to Buck’s 29 as of right now. Also, in ep 4 of s4, her mom mentions her being a “high risk pregnancy” since she’s over 35, but specifically does not say she’s over 40. So 37 or 38 for her. (Side note - Maddie is older than Daniel by between 1.5 to 2 years, since she says Daniel died when he was 7.) like I said, I’m most positive about Buck’s age but Maddie’s is a close second.
Eddie - early 30s? I also have no idea about him. My personal best guess would be 33, since that’s how old Ryan Guzman is now, and they’ve never in my recollection said anything to indicate a different age for him! (Same thing here as goes for Chim - if anyone can remember something let me know!) Note - I’ve been thinking on this a while and I actually feel pretty good about 31-33. We know Chris was born in 2011, so he’s turning 10 sometime soon, and that would make Eddie somewhere between 21-23 when he was born, which I feel fits with a timeline of him taking time to work with his dad after high school, and then joining the army, doing basic, and getting deployed all in time to get leave for Christopher’s birth.
And there’s all 7 mains! I’m going to link this in a bullet point in the next character details post, so if anyone wants to add information for Chim or Eddie (preferably with an episode number and/or scene so that I can verify it), I’ll edit this post and give you credit, so that way when I link this post, people will be able to see it all in one place, and the edits w credit will be in the tag for everyone to see!
Also all of these ages are as of right now, end of s4. If you want to write future fic or fic for a past season you’ll want to add or subtract years accordingly!
Thanks for the question, anon - putting together the “age puzzle” is like my favorite kind of challenge!

Hey~~ could you write Annie x reader? What I had in mind was towards the end of s1 when Annie was trying to climb up the wall, could she try and take reader with her because they always talked about being together? Kinda like when Ymir took Historia in s2, and I really love your writings 💕 thanks~
TAsdfhjksfadh you didn’t specify whether Annie made it over the wall with the reader or not so uh I just kinda picked one lol hope you don’t mind
Also, sorry this is a little late, I've been feeling just a little sick for the past couple of days.

Prove It
(Annie Leonhart x Reader)
AU: Canon
Warnings: Season 3 spoilers
Category: Mostly angst, little fluff
Summary: When Annie was outed as the Female Titan, she didn’t have a lot of options on where to go. And, as the fight between her and Eren progresses, it becomes clear her best option is to flee. Yet, there’s just one thing she can’t leave without. And it seems the feeling’s mutual.
Words: 3.1K

That wicked laughter.
It rung through the empty streets of Stohess, abandoned specifically for this military operation.
The goal? To lure out the suspected Female Titan, Annie Leonhart. Your girlfriend.
At first, you were violently against participating in the operation. You weren’t going to incriminate her, that would be incredibly faithless. Really, you wanted nothing more than for her to be vindicated, and to prove the the world the the “heartless” Annie Leonhart is a loyal soldier, not the traitorous snake they started to make of her.
It got in your head, most certainly. Within hours of the first discussion, ‘Annie Leonhart’ and ‘Female Titan’ had become synonymous with each other, and you hated every bit of it. You always defended her fiercely, because you could only hear so much distasteful talk towards her before you started to broil over with rage.
So, you agreed. You were going to lure Annie down in to the tunnel and prove once and for all that she wasn’t a monster. You could clear her of suspicion, and the two of you would go back to your ordinary lives with each other.
And oh, if only that was what happened.
But you watched in horror as Annie refused to go down the tunnel. She laughed, laughed, when you pleaded with her to follow you, that all she needed to do was come along with you to be unshackled from the scrutiny and doubt.
But her feet remained planted in her rigid stance of defense.
“Y/n...” She slurred out, laughter finally subsiding. “I’m glad I could be a good person to you.”
The slope of fear seemed to lose it’s steadiness, and the drop-off into the pit of empty horror occurred when she held up her hand to her mouth, preparing herself for the bloodshed to follow.
“You’ve won your bet. But this is where my bet begins...!”
The signal flare fired, and the countless soldiers waiting in ambush jumped from all angles. You watched, wide-eyed and frozen, as they restrained her and gagged her, like muzzling a dog. But, it was no use. Her ring, the silver ring she never let you touch, sprung up a spike out of it’s side, and a quick slide of her thumb across the tip opened up a bloody gash in her finger.
And then came the lightning.
Mikasa had thrown her arms around you and Armin, dragging you down into the tunnel to get out of harm’s way of the transformation.
You knew she had finished her transformation when the thundering stopped, and chunks of debris rolled to a stop at your feet, stirred dust slowly settling itself back onto the stone ground. For a moment, everything stilled, and only the ragged breaths of Armin and the sheathing of Mikasa’s blades were audible.
And then something moved.
You weren’t sure what it was, until around the corner, the light was consumed by a large shadow, growing closer and closer and absorbing more of the sunlight until it rounded the corner.
A fingertip. Then the finger. Then the hand. An arm—and it was traveling down the hallway, fingers frozen in a pose as if it were trying to grab onto something, something it couldn’t see.
“Shit!” You let out a terrified yelp and took off running, Mikasa hot on your tail and Armin stumbling closely behind.
It sought after the three of you, until a distant thump could be heard. You whipped your head around and stopped running, noticing the hand—ever present, it’s finger stretched desperately in an attempt at grabbing something, but it was no use. You caught a glance of it’s upper arm, flush against the wall of the curve.
She couldn’t reach any farther.
You let out of a sigh of relief, falling to your knees and gazing at it. It’s shaking fingers stopped, finally, and went limp into it’s palm in defeat, before slowly pulling itself out. You had no clue whether it was trying to grab you, or Armin, or Mikasa, or if it was planning on killing you or not. Bottom line, it was unsuccessful.
But then more thunder.
It seems Eren finally got his cue, because the signature yellow hues of transformation shone even into the dark abyss of the wrecked tunnel.
The three of you took a deep breath and shared a collective glance. Before long, the unsaid instructions were followed, and the three of you scurried out of the tunnel to witness the action.
And action it was—the first sight you were greeted with upon exiting was that of Annie delivering a decisive punch to Eren’s jaw, sending him flying backwards into the streets of Stohess.
Eren returned to his feet as fast as he could, and let out a menacing roar as he charged at Annie, arms low like a football player preparing to pounce on something.
He charged, but her feet remained planted, arms bracing for impact.
You watched as the two of them brawled furiously. You didn’t even notice that Mikasa and Armin had left your side—you hadn’t moved. You couldn’t find it in your heart to fight Annie, but neither were you going to fight Eren. No, all you could do was watch, helpless.
The battle continued fiercely, absolutely wrecking the city in the process. Building were destroyed and crumpled, streets of stone completely upended as one or the other got helplessly tossed around.
It came to a head as the fight eventually progressed to a wide, open space of stone, and the two of them were fighting hand to hand, both of them looking worse for wear. You shot your ODM gear into the roof of a nearby building, watching the fight with a slacked jaw. You had no clue how Eren was even standing a chance to Annie, since you yourself had seen how skilled she was in martial arts.
Soon, though, a decisive kick to Annie shin sent debris and rocks flying everywhere. Annie lost her footing, tumbling to the ground with a thump.
And you had been so fixated on Annie in that moment that you failed to notice the debris, and it was headed right towards your face.
Something—rigid and powerful—collided with your head, and you fell to the ground instantly.
Your vision was already fading, and you watched as tiny streams of crimson flowed over the shingles and down the roof—no doubt stemming from the newly opened gash on your scalp.
The distant clinking of the rock as it tumbled down the slope of the roof was the last thing you heard, and the world around you faded to black.
---
Through the darkness, a memory flashed through your mind.
---
It was dark out, of course it was. Shadis would never let you have leisure time at all when the sun was up.
You leaned against an lone oak tree, fingers brushing through the soft grass idly. The air was cold and crisp, and a soft breeze flowed through the air, just barely enough to rustle your soft hair.
Annie sat silently next to you, shoulder brushing up against yours. Slowly, she slinked her hand over yours, hesitantly grasping at your hand. You entwined your fingers with hers, and she looked away shyly.
She often had bouts of insomnia, lying awake at night for hours, unable to get her body to relax. And, the first night she tugged at your nightshirt, waking you up to go outside with her, she fell asleep in your arms due to exhaustion almost immediately.
So, it had become an unspoken ritual from that day on. She couldn’t sleep, she’d wake you up, the two of you would go outside, and talk or busy yourselves until sleep inevitably caught up to her.
But today was different. For whatever reason, something had been keeping her up for a lot longer than usual. You knew something was weighing down on her heavily, but you weren’t going to pry it out of her.
Deciding to break the tense silence, you squeezed her hand gently, getting her attention before you spoke.
“It’s nice out, isn’t it?” You observed. You weren’t talking about the weather per-say, but the thousands of white speckled stars that dotted the sky, and the bright, full moon that illuminated the grass and dirt beneath you.
“It’s cold.” She said bluntly.
You chuckled softly, her bleak attitude was so characteristic of her.
“I guess that’s true.”
More silence.
And then she sighed, bringing your hand into her lap to cusp it in both of her palms, clinging onto it as if it were grounding her.
“What do you plan on doing later in life, Y/n?” She huffed, leaning her head backwards against the back of the tree and gazing up at the sky. “You don’t possibly plan on staying in the military your whole life, do you?”
“No, of course not.” You sighed.
“Then do you have plans afterwards?”
You paused for a minute. She raised a good point, you didn’t really think of anything after the military. Deep down, perhaps you understood that by joining the Cadet Corps you didn’t have much ahead of you. You can only survive so many brushes with death before it’s your turn to go.
“I guess not...” You hesitated, deep in thought. You swallowed a lump in your throat before changing the subject. “Why, do you?”
Even through the darkness, you could feel the shrug of her shoulders against you.
“Not really.” She muttered. “Just... stay with the MPs, make a living wage, retire somewhere in the interior, and... relax. I just wanna... find somewhere to relax.”
She paused for a second. Clearly there’s something tugging at her mind, something she wants to say. So, you sit back and wait for her to find the confidence.
“Do you promise me that... sometime, after a while in the Scouts, that you’ll come back to be with me?”
The future between the two of you was always painted with uncertainty—whether the two of you could ever truly stay together. It would be difficult, between soldiers, to be able to settle down and stay together no matter what, especially from different regiments. But you could always try.
She exhaled shakily, struggling to get the words out of her throat.
“I just can’t imagine living the rest of my life without you. ‘Cause... if anything ever happened to you in the Scouts...” Her voice trailed off near the end, and you assumed she was trying to plan out her next words carefully, until you heard a small sniffle pass her lips.
Surprised, you turned to face her. She was trying to fight off the tears at the corners of her eyes, lip trembling as she struggled not to cry. It wasn’t until now that you realized just how tightly she gripped your hand.
“Annie- Annie it’s alright.” You stumbled, trying to comfort her. It didn’t take a genius to figure out what was upsetting her—she was scared of living a life without you.
You hooked an arm around her lower back, pulling her closer to you and putting your other hand on the back of her head and guiding her to your shoulder.
“I promise you, no matter what, I’ll live. And one day, we can spend all our time together. I’ll go wherever you go, I swear.” You ran your hand through her hair, undoing the bun she kept it in and evening it out over her shoulders.
“You promise?” Her voice sounded shaky and weak, a vulnerability to it that she rarely showed. “No matter what happens to me, you’ll trust me and stay with me?”
“I promise. Of course I do.”
---
Warmth.
It was the first thing you noticed upon waking up. The second was darkness. You sat up, noticing how wet the surface beneath you was. And how how fleshy.
Your face paled in realization. You were in a titan's mouth.
You raised your arm up, cringing at the trail of saliva that connected you to her tongue.
Immediately, you searched for a way to get out. You didn't plan on leaving her behind, but you'd rather not be stuck in a place as slimy and dark as this either. However, your efforts were pointless, since her jaw was clamped shut, her teeth caging you in and preventing you from escaping. Your heart dropped a little, wondering if she didn't trust you not to run away.
Suddenly, you felt a large thump, the unexpected movement causing you to grab desperately at anything that would keep you grounded in one spot.
But then, another thump. And another, and another. It felt like running, almost, but far too slow. You pondered it for a moment, before you realized what was going on.
She was trying to climb the wall.
But then, the thumping stopped. She wasn't falling, thank god, but all movement has seized.
Hesitantly, her jaw started to open, giving ample space for you to squeeze through. A sudden thought came to you—she needed your help.
With no hesitation, you drew your blades and burst through the skin of her cheek, not even waiting for her to part for lips. Adrenaline pumping through your veins, you immediately search for the source of the problem. And you found it in the brute of a soldier, Mikasa Ackerman.
The girl was perched on Annie's nose, staring down at her. A quick glance to your side and you realized, with horror written all over your face, that Mikasa had cut off almost all of Annie's fingers—one more and Annie would easily lose her grip.
You understood, as soon as Mikasa drew her blades towards Annie's hand, you only had one option.
You shot your ODM gear towards her, not even caring when the hook dug into Mikasa's shoulder, causing her to yelp in pain as she turned to you.
She wasn't even given a moment to process as you came hurtling towards her, colliding with her shoulder and sending both of you flying through the air and towards the ground—fast.
Despite the small voice telling you that it would be easier to just ditch Mikasa, to release your ODM gear and let her fall, you shot the other hook into the wall, and your momentum halted to a stop.
She peeled her arms away from their protective guard around her head, processing that the two of you had stopped before looking up to you in surprise. You looked back down at her, an expression of sorrow in your eyes. It hurt you to betray her, and all of your comrades, like this, but you knew as soon as Annie placed her trust in you by opening her mouth that you only had one choice.
"Y/n what are y—!"
"I'm sorry Mikasa!" You yelled, trying to put aside your emotions for the time being. "I can't... I can't leave her, I promised I wouldn't!"
You took a deep breath, positioning on your finger on the trigger, preparing to release Mikasa from your ODM gear's bloody grip in her shoulder. "I'm sorry..." You muttered, before pulling the trigger, watching Mikasa tumbled towards the ground, her betrayed expression still glued helplessly on her face.
You decided that it would only hurt you to look at Mikasa—engraining that image into your head would certainly plague you later on.
You finally turned to look back at Annie, and your heart picked up a couple paces at the sight.
Her head was turned to you, watching—waiting—for you, her hand outstretched in your direction. You smiled, firing your ODM and flying into the palm of her hand, quickly climbing up onto her shoulder to allow her to finish her ascent up the wall.
You turned back one last time, looking over at the destroyed city, and the furious and betrayed faces of your comrades. You sighed, turning back around. That's in the past now, you thought. It doesn't matter. I... made a promise to Annie, I can't betray her. I can't...
---
The line of trees in the distance grew closer and closer as Annie jogged forwards, having made it over the wall and all the way to the forest inside Wall Maria.
She slowed down to a walking pace as she neared the trees, kneeling on the ground before releasing herself from the nape of her titan. Steam flowed from her body as she immediately collapsed forwards, and you instantly lurched forwards to catch her exhausted body in your arms.
"Grab on." You instructed, waiting for her to securely wrap herself around you before you flew through the air and onto a tree branch, making sure you were safely out of the reach of any mindless titans before you let go of her.
She took a deep breath, leaning against the wooden trunk of the tree to recollect her strength. After all, even as a titan, the fight had done numbers to her body.
You sat there in comfortable silence for a little bit, waiting for her to catch her breath while you idly readjusted the straps to your ODM gear.
Finally, she reached over to take your hand, grabbing it in both of hers just like she had during your conversation with her years ago.
"I'm so glad..." She sighed, voice weak and wavering. "I was so scared when I opened my mouth that you would just... run off without me."
Slowly, she shifted, wrapping her arms around your neck and leaning her entire body weight on you. You could feel some of the tension leaving her body as she sighed against you, burying her nose in the crook of your neck.
"I was terrified that if you found out my real identity, you would just leave me. I don't know how I would've handled it. I was just..." She took a shaky inhale as she continued, and you felt a few wet tears against your neck. "Scared. So... So scared..."
You set a comforting hand on her back, hugging her tighter in an attempt to sooth her.
"Annie..." You cooed in her ear. "I promised you, remember? I would never leave your side. I'm gonna stay with you for the rest of my life."
Her breathing started to calm against you, your words managing to ease her worries.
"Yeah," She sighed, pulling away from you. "I shouldn't have doubted you, sweetie."
You smiled and placed your hands on her shoulders, bringing her in for a quick kiss before wiping her tears with the back of your hand.
"It's fine. Just remember," You leaned in and hugged her, exuding a warm feeling that made Annie's heart swell with love. "I'll always be on your side, no matter what."
"God, I love you so much, you dork." She muttered, heat rising to her cheeks with a content smile.
You chuckled, "I love you, too."

HSMTMTS 2x12 Review
Second Chances was a lacklustre finale for an uneven season. Let’s dig in!
Earlier this week I re-watched S1 in preparation for the S2 finale and the contrast between the two seasons is jarring. In almost every way S2 has been worse and after seeing this finale I’m less optimistic that Tim will be able to fix the long list of things that have gone wrong. Tim has said in some of his interviews today that pretty much all of S2 was written before the pandemic and that they didn’t have to do as much re-writing as people might think due to the stringent safety measures Disney put in place. Of course, that removes an excuse for the bad writing we’ve seen so much of this season as according to Tim what we saw of S2 is largely what he envisioned minus big crowds and background dancers.
Across his many interviews today, the one consistent point is that Tim does not have any real plans for future seasons; things like Ricky’s endgame he hasn’t decided on and he can’t even guarantee the summer season the finale sets up due to the weather in Salt Lake. I do think a S3 is an almost certainty given the show’s popularity but I’ll take Tim at his word that he truly doesn’t know if they’ll be renewed since it seems to be a new Disney tradition to wait until seasons are done airing before making a renewal decision (the same thing happened for the popular and well received Mighty Ducks: Game Changers which got a silent renewal only after all of S1 aired). That being said as poor of a season finale as Second Chances is it is also a terrible potential series finale. In large part it goes back to his lack of planning, he wants to keep all options open but in doing so Tim is crippling the show’s ability to deliver any pay offs or tie up loose ends.
The one mostly well done plot line this season was Portwell which got a happy ending tonight as they canoned. The only good thing about the big brother angst was that it was so insane that it had to be addressed and sure enough it was and Gina got her first kiss with a guy she really liked. If Tim is to be believed the reason we didn’t get an on screen Portwell kiss was not because of their age difference or covid concerns but because he felt that everyone’s first kiss was different so he wanted it off screen so viewers could fill in the blanks themselves. Tim’s line of reasoning is profoundly stupid. Imagine if they had Jamie show up and he and Gina talked off screen and Tim tried to claim that because everyone has a different relationship with their own siblings that he wanted the audience to fill in the blanks as to how their conversation went!
Still we saw great character development on Gina and EJ’s part as both really grew from the people they were in S1. As Tim noted, EJ bringing Gina back in 1x10 was kind of the set up for this story line. The only thing missing was a brief Portwell scene sometime in eps 2x01-2x04 to set them up. The consistent development they got from 2x05-2x12 is unlike any other ship on the show; only Rini exceeds their development.
Unfortunately I don’t think that will last in S3 because Tim will always favour Ricky over EJ and if he wants to do Rina he’ll dispose of Portwell before doing so. I was surprised that they never bothered to have Ricky and Gina have a conversation about Gina’s S1 confession. It was a huge mistake to have Gina pine over Ricky for half the season and it was no surprise that Gina’s story line got instantly better once she stopped interacting with Ricky. Tim has made clear in interviews that he’s still interested in the possibility of Rina which makes his poor writing of them even more bizarre. What conclusions are the audience supposed to draw from the Rina story line this season? That Ricky never cared that much about Gina? That it’s totally fine for the show if they don’t interact for 6 eps in a row? That Gina has moved on? I’ve said before that a wiser man than Tim would recognize that doing both Portwell and Rina will do tremendous damage to the show and he should pick one and not do the other. Of course he’s not that smart but it is wild how he’s accidentally written their story line to make for a perfect end to Rina.
Second Chances was great and is the only part of the finale that would have been well suited to being part of a potential series finale.
The Rini closure was a sad inverse of their S1 opening night confession. They’ve fallen so far from being the it couple of the series and I fear Tim doesn’t actually know what to do with them now. He really needs to decide if he’s tearing down that treehouse for real.
The less said about the Valentine’s chocolates the better but at least Gina and Nini are cool again and Nini can explore her budding music career with Jamie’s help. Tim repeatedly said in interviews that the scripts about Nini’s music career were all written before Driver’s License came out and I think he understands that the audience is just going to see the show as copying from Olivia’s life.
The wildcats just deciding to drop out of the Menkies was a lame cop out. Tim has said he always meant for that to happen though they were originally going to compete at the Menkies then drop out (presumably that’s where we would have heard Lily singing Home). Somebody should have mentioned the $50 000 prize money which the East High theatre department could surely use after Miss Jenn and Mr. Mazzara burned it down (remember that story line that had no consequences?). And that NYU scholarship could have been life changing for one of them and yet no one even brought  it up once this season.
I did like the twist that it was EJ and his dad who got Mazzara into Caltech. He’d be a fool not to take it but I’m glad he confessed to Miss Jenn. She’s had a really rough season and I hope she redeems herself in S3.
Howie was acting so weird tonight and last ep that I have a hard time believing he was really so awed by Kourtney’s talent rather than feeling guilty for helping to steal the harness. The harness is another useless plot device; there are no consequences for Lily stealing it, she’s not caught, East High pulls off another version of the transformation off screen, and then East High withdraws from the Menkies anyways. Doubtless the harness will eventually come up to serve Rily angst.
At least Lily was straightforward, I’ll give her that. She has such an odd way of speaking, almost child like. As awful as it is there is potential for a forbidden/secret romance story line with Rily. It really does not speak well to Ricky’s character that he’s so easily fallen for Lily’s act when he has no reason to trust her and she never apologized for making fun of Big Red during the auditions or making Ashlyn feel insecure during the dance off.
The one way in which S2 was drastically better to S1 was in regards to the Seblos story line. Clearly Joe being bumped up to regular made a big difference. We got the first same-sex kiss between two boys and the first love song sung by one boy to another in Disney history and that is a legacy to be proud of. Of course, there was still some Disney censorship such as Carlos and Seblos being unable to use the word gay in the same ep that focused on Carlos singing In a Heartbeat to Seb.
S1 of HSMTMTS had a clear direction, the wildcats would have to try and come together to stage High School Musical and Ricky and Nini would have to decide if they still had a future together while Gina and EJ had to work on being better versions of themselves. It was simple sure but it worked very well. There was a lot of heart but also a lot of humor and the show never took itself too seriously. What has S2 had? Beauty and the Beast was hardly the main focus of the cast or the writers and the central couple that S1 was built around is now broken up either for a long time or for good. There was a lot less of the meta moments that jokes that made S1 such a hit, for far too many eps this season the show took itself way too seriously. Hell even the lighting this season was darker than in S1.
Olivia Rodrigo’s team had complained in a recent article that Olivia wouldn’t be able to potentially tour until fall 2022 due to her contractual commitments which is a sign that they think a S3 is very likely though I wonder how late S3 filming would have to start to keep her occupied until late 2022. There’s no confirmation of this but I thought it might be worth keeping an eye on; a post on r/hsmtmts by someone who claims to have a source working on production says that the plan is for S3 to be a summer theatre camp possibly with Camp Rock renditions and the plan for S4 is to jump 6 months ahead to the final semester of senior year and end with Ricky, Nini, Big Red, and Kourtney graduating from East High. They also say that part of the delay in the S3 announcement is a conflict between Tim and Disney executives. Tim wants to move production to LA and film on sets as it’s easier and cheaper while the Disney execs still want some on location shooting in Salt Lake. Again this is all unconfirmed but if it pans out it will represent a major shift in the series.
Regardless if Tim wants the show to remain successful he needs start planning out what he wants to happen. He should not assume he’s getting more than 4 seasons. If the series gets a S3 but then is suddenly cancelled then how would he want all the main story lines to wrap up? And if they make it to S4 where does he see it ending? The graduation of the current juniors is a logical series ending point but if Tim wants to do something different he needs to start thinking of that now. I can’t say I’m excited anymore for S3 but I do really hope that Tim and his writers can turn things around and that will only happen if they recognize what they did wrong and learn from their mistakes.
Until next season Wildcats
