MCU Rant I Guess

Iron Man is a pretty great movie. The plot is engaging and entertaining, and the characters are very easy to like. Tony Stark was an amazing protagonist who really grew on me throughout the movie, and has become one of my all time favorite characters. He appeared in 10 total movies throughout the run of the Marvel Cinematic Universe a.k.a. the MCU, finishing his run in Avengers: Endgame. To be fully and completely honest, when he died in that movie, I didn’t really care. 

It might seem a little odd that I didn’t care that one of my favorite characters ever died, but it’s the truth. By the time of his death, he had already been in so many movies that it just felt like he had run his course. I wasn’t going into a movie with endgame in the title and expecting even more Iron Man adventures afterwards; his story ended when he heroically sacrificed himself to save the world, and that was that. Most of the original characters from the MCU either retired or died in Endgame, having their stories told to completion. 

Despite that, the MCU is still ongoing, with more and more movies and projects being released every year. I liked the original movies, so even though I felt like Endgame was a good ending, I kept watching and enjoyed some of the newer movies and TV Shows. But the projects that I could say I actually cared about were becoming further and farther between. After watching the Hawkeye TV show, I just sort of stopped watching any further MCU projects, and I moved on.

From those who I have talked to about their experience with the MCU, this also seems to be the case for them. They were thoroughly invested in the MCU during its main-run, and by a year or two after Endgame released, they also moved on and stopped watching the newer movies and TV shows. Very few of the original fans of the franchise are still keeping up with everything Marvel is releasing right now, so why exactly is that?

In my case, and I’m sure many others, it was simply because I lost interest after most of the original characters' stories were concluded. When a story has been told for over a decade, keeping continued interest becomes pretty hard. The new TV shows certainly don’t help with that, as they are each considerably longer and more tedious to watch than a single movie. If people were fatigued by the MCU before Avengers: Endgame, which several fans were, they would certainly not want to watch a six hour miniseries continuing the same story afterwards. Even the most devoted fans have trouble keeping up with content like that.

Anyone who wants to keep up with all those projects has my resounding support, they are going to need it.

But eventually the MCU will stop producing the profits that disney needs to to, and the mouse will shoot it down like a lame horse. When that happens, we can all mourn its long overdue death.

the headcanon of regulus just being able to cry on command is horrifying but also the funniest thing i’ve ever fucking heard. like i imagine regulus is hanging out with the marauders, post black brothers reconciliation, and him and sirius are bickering and sirius JOKINGLY goes “well it’s not MY fault it’s impossible for you to show any emotion” and regulus blinks. and then just fully starts sobbing.

and james and remus and peter are all like ?!?!?! what the FUCK . RIGHTFULLY SO. and james’ heart is hurting so bad because he’s never seen regulus cry before and he’s trying to comfort him and hold him and regulus, (who is gay and a little shit) is just letting himself be hugged and letting james pet his hair or whatever and remus is like. sirius what the fuck apologize to your brother??????? because sirius has been sitting there the entire time unmoving and he just raises his eyebrows, completely unimpressed and deadpan when he goes, “you guys do know he’s faking right”. and then when remus and james both are like HUH??? torn between bewildered and angry with this reaction, regulus just extracts himself from james, face completely neutral but with tears drying on his cheeks, no sign of the heaving, hyperventilating sobs he’d fallen into literally a second ago and says “i win”. it terrifies peter so bad that he can’t look him in the eyes for a week

Aspec men deserve much more respect and recognition in the aspec community than they receive. They often face a different form of aphobia specific to them ("men are naturally sexual they can't be ace" "all men are unromantic that's not unique") this rhetoric is spouted by many, even members of our own community and I hope for a day where that is no longer the case. As an ace and demiro woman (demigirl but that's beside the point) I want to encourage folks to take the time to give the aspec men in their lives support and to the aspec men reading, you are who you say you are no matter what people say and you deserve the world. I'm sorry for the ways in which toxic masculinity has harmed you. You are a valued member of the aspec community and the queer community as a whole. No ace or aro person is broken and neither are you. I'm sorry if anyone has ever told you otherwise.
