Another ROTTMNT request!!
Platonic, funny hc about the 4 brothers reacting to younger sister reader who has a gloomy/angsty personality who acts like a tragic heroin but in reality everything in her life is completely okay.
She's just a bit dramatic like leo and dee xD
☀︎⋆.ೃ࿔*:・OUr Our YEA~☀︎⋆.ೃ࿔*:・
alt title; reader loves a style but does little research on it and uses pinterest as a ref
ᯓᡣ𐭩 warnings: cussing(!) cringe(!) stereotyped emos (!) crack(!)
ᯓᡣ𐭩 ngl- i feel reader w/ this one 😭😭 Thank you so much for requesting <33 btw, this is not to make fun of actual emos, you guy's aesthetic is beautiful <3 instead, this is actually written from a 2 day experience by your's truly! There is absolutely no plot in this, so if you can't follow at all I don't blame you.
ᯓᡣ𐭩 "Oh god she's blasting SleepToken again-"
kanabo; a japanese weapon similar to a spiked bat, used for offense.
"YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW ME!" You screamed as you slammed the door closed.
Raph stood there, stunned and confused.
"I don't get it...all Raph told her to do was to wash the dishes?" He sighed and walked away. Deeply, he was too tired for this shit and the headache he has was forming faster the more he thought about it. He needed a nap.
Meanwhile Leo and Donnie were snickering in the far corner, watching the whole ordeal go down.
"broooooo"
"That cannot be real-" Leo said, holding his gut trying not to shit on himself at the atrocity you just committed.
"Of- ha- of course it itz! I caught it on camera!" Donnie waved the evidence in the air.
The two burst into obnoxious laughter, echoing throughout the sewers.
So yea..you're a bit cringe. But who's stopping you?
You truly believed that this wasn't a phase.
And future you is looking down at you in tears.
YOU WERE ONLY ELEVEN- !
The group was fighting a tiger villian. Silly cat, he had guns. Tch, that was nothing for someone like you.
"I blast you into the abyss as dark as my soul" You said, raising your kanabo, swinging the weapon in a circular motion, aiming for your target.
"What the f-" And he got blasted. You hated how your weapon was pink...
It all started with the "pick me girl" trend.
You hated those people (despite them not even existing half the time).
So, you wanted to be different 😈
And thus, the color black was an immediate yes
Mikey, not really caring about the sudden change in his sibling's style, used you for his art inspiration! Even if you begged and begged for him to draw you with hair.
(he already sketched it, but won't tell you. he's not gonna let it go that far into your head💀)
"Turn- now pose, ohhhh! Lookin great Pink! Wooo, you got it girl!"
"The only thing I deserve to have is a dirt pit. To put myself in, not your praise."
"Oh- oh."
Looking through pinterest you found your first outfit inspo and fell in love.
While not actually having any problems, mentally or physically (from what you know), you felt like you fit into this category so well!
Your scales were black, check
You love eyeliner, check
Your siblings force you to do things that you didn't want to (chores) , check
You were all set.
All it took was a few hundred dollars from Donnie's bank and you were ready to show the world-
WHO YOU TRULY WERE 😈
"YOU'RE ALL AGAINST ME!"
"we are literally just asking you to go on this mission-"
"TO KILL ME OF COURSE! YOU NEVER CARED ABOUT ME"
"okay"
They just let you sort your feelings out, poor baby.
No one actually knew when it really started
But suddenly you started to ask April for her makeup and nail polish for the first time.
And April, bless her, did so each and every time.
"Of course honeybun!"
Worst part was, you never gave it back.
"Hey, have you boys seen my makeup bag? I can't find it no where."
The boys sighed, already sick of the shenanigans, and pointed towards your room where every light was off.
Walking inside, April came in to see a singular lamp shining, with you underneath it writing inside of a black notebook.
"Hey Pink! Watcha doin sweetheart?" April nervously said, "It's pretty dark in here-"
"Writing down the names of my enemies. They need to suffer the pain I go through everyday, not only the physical- but the mental."
April wasn't really sure what you were going on about, but she spotted her makeup bag and dipped.
-
Donnie walked into your room, music blasting at goddam 3 in the morning.
"ARe yoU inSane!?!?" Donnie yelled as Ely Ottto raged over his voice.
"THIS IS THE REAL ME DONNIE! DEAL WITH ME!!!" You flipped him off, head banging as you jump up and down on the mattress. The plushies that were sitting on the bed even had black marker scribbled all over them.
This was too much damn noise! And quite frankly, very much overstimulating for this time of night for anyone to experience.
"Oh hoh hoh- no I AM NOT MISSY! YOU WILL TURN THIS MUSIC DOWN THIS INSTANT!"
"YOUR NOT MY DAD BOZO!" Like a child (*cough cough*) you blew a raspberry at him and turned the music up louder.
Donnie was twitching in anger as he disabled your speaker with a tap of a few buttons.
"I HATE YOU" You yelled, stomping towards him and pushing him out. Slamming the door, you screamed into your pillow (as if that would muffle the sound.)
Dear supreme pizza in the sky-
Oddly enough your behavior would also vary between people.
For example, you wouldn't take shit from Donnie, even if he was trying to help you, you would even go as far to make fun of him for no reason.
You would talk about your woes and suffering with April and Mikey, even when they didn't understand it half the time because it was ever on subject???
You simply just ignored Raph when he told you to do something.
And Leo, pray for his soul, would play along. Or even worse, bully you *kindly*
Leo was walking you to the park, walking with a crip like those bloxburg characters when you don't take a bath. His head was facing the concrete, set in a mock scowl, mimicking your own.
You rolled your eyes and walked faster, flipping the wig you bought.
-
Good thing it lasted for another two days, or everyone (not including Leo) would've blown their tops.
Man- had to get the rest of that brainrot out. phew~
heres part 2 btw

Day 19:
(masterpost)
Here's Scott redesign/my take on his design, Unlike El's this one is actually quite different than the card design, I took a lot of inspo from Pinterest necromancers and other artist who drawn his design, I tried to combine elements from everything to make it mine, hope you guy love it as much as I!
There was a lot of experimenting with him (I figured out the shocking fact that he in fact doesn't have straight hair most likely) and the pose do not make sense (Idk what I was thinking) but I'm happy with the results!
I included more color variety, white lilies on the hat representing Milo and I kinda made the belt have eyes, idk if you can see it or nah
He also has his little gecko friend! That I kid you not spent at least half an hour searching for his name just to come up empty handed... Did he not name them?? Did I just miss it?? Idk
Just to show how smart decision go into these, the reason why he doesn't have the Loincloth (I spent 10 minutes looking for the name of it) is because it's annoying to draw in a siting position. Specifically in the sitting position I usually draw him. Yeah that's it I'm just to lazy to figure out gravity so nahh
Also you see how my designs lack patterns that were my favorite parts from the card designs? Yeah I'm just too lazy to draw them, I know, not very cutesy nor demure of me '^'
Random add ons: I added a another skull, now he has a skull on his hat. Couldn't decide on nose, went with how I'm feeling at the time of drawing. I drawn the wand that turns him into a ghost and drawn two options for a broom, I went with the second opinion btw. I can't get over the fact not even his is straight, the skin has a hair style much closer to wavy almost definitely not straight like how I thought. Should have known, Scott is as close to straight as a circle.
I was debating his earrings a lot, I wanted him to have multiple but couldn't figure out what type. Btw here's lore I made up on a wimp he definitely got his earrings from Milo and never takes them off because of that as it was a gift for his birthday or something. This is now canon to the comic I'm making. Was it important not? But I'm writing this post at 1am because I procrastinate.
He would make it into Edna's nightmares from Incredibles with all the lose fabric he has on most possible designs, he even got a cape in the final one, he's asking to be suck into a plane propellers.
Making this design also made me discover a new artist, so funny story, my phone was broken so I couldn't really use it to listen to music so I used my sister's laptop, I also used that for ref pic btw, and the laptop is logged into her account. I didn't want to mess up her YouTube history and was too lazy to log in the try to log out of my Google account so I opened up incognito, I typed in YouTube and searched "necromancer playlist" and let the ai do it's thing. I'm not kidding when I say this, you can check it for yourself, the second playlist is literally called "playlist for the non binary necromancers" like it was made for me specifically xd Btw really good compilation kudos to whoever made it! Anyway the new artist I found is Bear Ghost, specifically recommend Necromancin dancin and Starkiller.
#art#fanart#artwork#design#redesign#daily witchcraft smp#witchcraft smp#mcyt#scott smajor#wcsmp#mcytblr#necromancer#witches#Spotify#mcytbr#I wrote most of this at 1am#so#exuse my spelling#i tried#and I'm happy with the results#while writing this#I suddenly thought about how he's missing his wedding ring#because he would#definitely have it on at all times after Milo's death#then i remembered#they're not married#I think#but now that I'm thinking about it#they should be finances#damn it he should have a ring and I forgot...

Hello Favour :) I wanted to ask if you had any tips for poses and expressions? I found your art from the aggie (is that how its spelled?) event and Im OBSESSED! Your arts phenomenal, and your poses are so expressive! :D
Have a great day and thank you <3
HI HUNTER !!! sooo glad u enjoy my art i am honored . . . . for the aggie sketch i . i honestly just picked up this reference pic from pinterest xD literally spent an hour before the aggie planning that sketch out, searching for other pieces that had a sorta soft and sweet vibe and leaving those open alongside the ref so i can "Absorb it into my brain"
for tips regarding poses and expressions... IM JUST REALLY PICKY WHEN PICKING OUT REFERENCES TBH 😭😭 Like i wont stop searching until it fits the mental image i have and until it has the feelings im trying to convey in the piece . i also frequently use statues as inspiration too ig . went ham with explaining my thought process in the tags btw i got shyyy ^_^
#asks for ain#IS THIS ANYTHING . im reaaaaally bad at giving tips for poses n expressions SAWRRY#I DONT HAVE ANY PREPARED ADVICE WHEN IT COMES 2 THESE. I CAN ONLY PROVIDE MY THOUGHT PROCESS OTL#ITS BC BC . I SWEAR ITS JUST MY PERSONAL TASTE THAT MAKES ME LEAN TOWARDS THESE KINDS OF POSES YK#AND WHEN IT COMES TO EXPRESSION I JUST THINK OF WHAT FEELING IM TRYING TO MAKE THAT CHARACTER CONVEY#OR WHAT I WANT THE OVERALL PIECE TO FEEL LIKE#actually that can apply for how i think abt poses too#especially for ship art im very particular about how the characters should interact n where their hands should go#i think hands r important ....#also feelings . what u want ur viewer to feel when looking at the piece ur making i put so much thought into feelings ....#im mostly using duo pieces as an example here but it can also work for solo chara sketches tbh .....#like i think about what part of the character i wanna emphasize#most of the time i show off the face bc . well i think i draw pretty faces DFJHFGDF#but other times i might wanna show off a part of their body instead#like with pieces w scar sometimes i want to show off the Scitties . or his Abs . so i figure out a pose that emphasizes those ....#the focal point of the piece ..... bc i want u to LOOK there yk#but i also think about the attitude of the character and how they act ... if they're charming or smug or serious etc etc#gotta keep them Sorta in character after all (a bit of ooc is fine . as a treat . and if done well LOL)#im ESPECIALLY picky w how i interpret my characters too... very particular with my version of them that lives in my head#Understanding of anatomy would help lots too#forgot 2 mention that im an anatomy FREAK i love obsessing over proportions and getting them right and making them look nice#ANYWAYS U PROBABLY ALREADY KNOW ABOUT THESE GYAAAAA but still ..... i hope it makes u think about poses and expressions differently .......#like in a POSITIVE WAY !!! its sm fun to think abt poses and expressions tbh u can fit a lot of meaning into even the subtlest of details#tldr IM PICKY AND I OVERTHINK ^_^

do you have any tips how to doodle? i want to have some drawings around my writing but i have a hard time making it look effortless. love your art btw!
thank you for the compliment anon! as flattered as i am to be asked for drawing advice, i absolutely don't feel i have enough knowledge or skill to give it. still, since you asked i'll do my best to give you an answer! ( ◡̀_◡́)ᕤ
just to be clear, i am a self-taught hobbyist ⁽ᶠᵒʳ ⁿᵒʷ⁾. this isn't going to be a definitive 'how to draw' post! do not take this advice at face value if you are trying to learn how to draw professionally, because well, that wasn't the question and that's not what this post is about. it's just your rando tumblr artist giving silly advice on how to draw silly doodles :3
so here are my tips and tricks on how to doodle:
1. firstly? relax. you're doodling for fun and for yourself! it doesn't have to be perfect (as cliché as this sounds). your works are important because you created them.
i find that a lot of the time i don't even start drawing because i don't think i can pull it off the way i imagined in my head. don't fall for this, it's your inner goblins trying to deceive you. you will never get to a point where it looks like you want it to if you don't try at all!
draw even if you think it looks like shit. don't be overly critical of yourself but also don't give up. it's okay to change something if you feel it looks weird or just cause. but also step away from a drawing from time to time, so you can see it with a clear mind - maybe you will catch some mistakes or maybe you'll realize that it looks better than you thought it did!
2. doodle all. the. time.
the more you do it the more natural it will feel. silly expressions, random objects, your ocs, anything.
you said you want to have drawings to go with your writing, so i suggest trying to draw whatever moment you wrote! i'm gonna use our life as an example, since that's the fandom i draw for at the moment. when i play the game and i like a line or a certain moment i quickly draw it on a sticky note. even if the doodles look bad i still feel good looking at them, because i drew a moment i enjoyed and i managed to show the emotions i wanted in the doodle.
3. use references. like a lot of them.
from my experience, i usually have an idea on what i want to draw - what pose or expression i have in mind. first i sketch it out on my own and then i look up references. sometimes for an entire doodle and sometimes for a specific part, like an arm placement.
if you don't have a clear idea of what you want to doodle, but you know the moment in your writing you want to draw, let's say two characters dancing, look up photos of people dancing and look at art that other people drew to seek inspiration.
references are really helpful but they can also feel constraining, as if they are limiting what you can draw. to that i say if don't use only one reference! the pose can come from one picture, an expression from another, body type a different one and so on. personally i have an entire board on pinterest dedicated to photos and drawing advice i find useful. when i can't find a specific thing i usually take pictures of myself and use that.
this is a really nice deviantart post about using references! you can also find it here on pinterest, where i found it.
4. simplify your refs!
when you have a reference it still may be hard to draw with it. i used to do the thing where you start drawing with a ref by focusing on one part and drawing it in an extremely detailed way and then moving on to another. needless to say it did not look good at all - the proportions were off and it looked stiff and unnatural.
what helps a lot is simplifying your references and your drawings in general. here's what i mean by that:
imagine references not as a whole but as a bunch of shapes. you can draw over the reference directly to get a better feeling of what shapes make sense.
5. what i learned from my book about drawing is that your hand movements shouldn't come from the wrist, but rather from the arm. most of the time using only wrists is good for details. it may feel a bit awkward and clunky to implement the entire arm into drawing at first, but it helps a lot with how your lines look!
6. and last but not least, we are talking about doodles! not detailed, complicated art pieces.
it's okay if they are messy or imperfect in any way.
so tldr; doodle because you like to, draw a lot and everything, use references and simplify them, use the entire arm while drawing, and don't worry about them not looking like a museum art piece!
i think in the end what is most important is that you draw because you like to. progress will come with time.
sooo there you have it! i took some time with replying to this ask because i wanted the advice to be good,, i hope it helped you in some way anon! ৻( •̀ ᗜ •́ ৻)
#mei's asks#anonymous#anon ask#everytime someone asks me for drawing advice i just shut down *static noises*#i don't know what gave you the impression i know what i'm doing#seems like i missed my calling to become an actor 👍#just kidding but i genuinely hope you will find this advice useful to some degree#drawing advice?

Trips here like a damsel in distress
hi hello! I revive h e r e biT-
ahem anyways
SOOo I decided to post some artworks ‘n sketches I made these past few days/months and that I am quite proud of :D
Let me start with this sweetie Over here
Sorry for the bad lightning This is a school sketch of my oc named Poli ^^ she looks (and is) an adorable sweetie
10/10 would pat her fluffy poofy hair if you asked me
onto the next one >:D
so
using this base
It doesn’t belong to me btw-! I found it on Pinterest and decided to use it
to draw the human form of my vampire oc Abyssus uwu; credits goes to the artist that made the base,I do not wish to claim the base as mine- it is the artist’s- really was helpful and had fun drawing my lad ^^
I still am struggling with positions and poses and such,so I’m trying my best uwu; but if they turned ugly as hell I just pick a base from Ibispaint or on Pinterest. Both helpful uwu;
onto the next drawing which isSss
I’m super proud of thisss :,>
this is Prince hugo :D I adore his outfit,it’s a mix of two outfits I saw in the internet that.. I forgot what they are now and deleted from my camera roll :,> oops- but the wings and the position he’s in is from ibispaint itself ,I already tried drawing without a base or ref or anything but it turned and I struggled a lot :,> I already drew the face and I didn’t wanna draw it again cuz it looks amazing, and drawing a crown was HELL for me ,so I only picked a good base from the app ibis itself, got the body and position I needed and then continued :,> And the wings. I know how to draw wings but it’s hellish and I wanted to try to use more bases from ibis- luckily they have wings bases thank god and picked one of them and went creative mode
^^ really proud how it all turned out
Now last but not least is this
This is Yami :D another royalty oc of mine
nO DON’T ARGUE WITH M E - I am a sucker for royal medieval crap- I have more than two royalty Oc’s and I do not regret it ✨
.. excuse me if I sound like a hyper child trying to make the fanciest op character ever that I’ll cringe about it 5 years later 💀
but I’m really excited about him :,> so ye-!
his outfit is from the internet itself - searched fancy stuff and got it,tho it might take forever to get it again :,D
that’s it for now tho- hope you all like it ^^ I have much more artworks but my arse is hesitant and in a hurry for now sksksksksk- I might show more if you all want to,in the future- ^^ bai bai for now!
#AP artworks#omg I’m alive for real?#AP commits art real?#yes it is real you get artworks from the potat

A style study I did a while back. The anatomy may be a bit wonky compared to my standards now, but I’m still fond of it. I found my ref. On Pinterest as usual. I wish I knew the og artist name. - I’ve been graduated and moved out on my own for a while now. It’s beginning to dawn on me that my life is in my own hands now. I’m free. It’s a lovely and stressful feeling. - The characters is from Skyrim btw. Hircine the daedric lord. I simp for him ngl. . . . #art #artist #artstudy #stylestudy #artstyle #fanart #videogames #videogameart #skyrim #skyrimart #skyrimfanart #skyrimanniversaryedition #hircine #hircinethehuntsman #skyrimhircine #daedralover #monsterboy #monsterguy https://www.instagram.com/p/CizTxqLuF7n/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hi, This isnt about the butterfly au but i was wondering do you use any apps to draw your art on and if so which ones due you use? also do you have any tips?
Hey there! No worries I'm happy to talk about art in general as well!
I use Procreate (I think currently V5) on a first gen iPadPro to do most of the art and photosh*p cs2 for any edits, or compiling files when my layers overflow. (I'm not gonna lie, that is the major bummer with Procreate, but the app is well priced and I got no complaints about it otherwise.)
As far as art tips, go I wanted to acknowledge that these are tips I would and also do give myself, so it I am not an expert in any of these, but they are cool things to strive for.
1. Find the workflow for what makes sense for you. Not everyone has to do 2 sketches a lineart, flats and render in that order in every single piece. Experiment around, find what works for you, which parts of the process you enjoy, most importantly. I do very clean sketches on top of loose pose puppets and hate lineart. So I usually don't do that, but I get away with it bc I like doing the detailed sketch phase and "line sculpting" so I just go straight to colouring most often. Maybe you don't either, but for you a lineless style would work better. This is also how you can build style very easily!
2. Experiment with programs and find the one that supports your workflow best. I started off with a pen-tablet and PS/Corel painter and that didn't work for me for the longest time - I guess I never had the necessary hand-eye coordination for laptop and pen-tablet setups. Drawing ON the screen however, whoo boy my improvement skyrocketed. So I would urge everyone to look at what they struggle with while making art bc it might not be you, it might be the setup you use. Sure I could have spent a million hours fine tuning my lines to be straight, but I cold have also switched to a program that supports stroke stabilisation, you know? Also look into available shortcuts and pre-sets: the better you know your program the faster you are, the less likely you are to burn yourself out on a piece.
3. Build skills, but let your interests dictate what skills to focus on. Sure practice is key and you need to draw a thing a 1000 times to understand it, but I'm saying you are only going to draw something that many times if you like it. When I was into series that featured many male characters I beefed up on male anatomy; when I was crazy about a live action show I practiced copying the features of real actors; now I am neck deep in fashion refs and drawing different types of fabric. Find your passion and let it drive you! It does make sense to identify shortcomings and get comfortable with art basics like shape, light and colour, but if you don't find a way to apply it it a way that sparks joy, you risk your hobby turning into a chore (so this advice is mainly for hobbyist), so try not to do that and instead focus on eating your "veggies" and "dessert" as well if you can. Do sketches all day if you want, but you will need to face drawing the other eye or that hand on the hip if you want to see eventual improvement.
4. Collect inspiration with a goal in mind. It's fair and well to have endless lists of inspiring art and photography saved in your likes, pinterest or wherever, but it is good to sit down sometimes and examine why you saved a pic. (This is not for direct references btw). Ask yourself what you like about the individual piece and whether what you like about is something that just appeals to you as a beholder or whether that is something you would like to reproduce in your own art? It's actually a huge difference. I am drawn to stylised shapes and bold colours in art, but I like to paint like that? No. On the other hand I like looking at guache paintings and really taking apart how they were painted, bc that is the rendering style i like to push for in my art. It's a good idea to go cross-media in your inspiration: from traditional art to photography to industrial object design, you can find a lot of things to learn from outside your native art medium. If you found something you really like, you can do a master study of it (absolutely fair to share with public domain, classical pieces, if you copy a contemporary artist, do it for the sake of study and don't post it).
5. Don't compare yourself to others. Yes, I know this is the hardest. If you find yourself unhappy with the reception of your art online, it impacting your joy in creating art in the first place, it might be worth taking a step back. That's what I did. I was doing winx doodles for almost a year for myself only before I made this blog, (and this is far from being my first art blog on the internet btw). This may not be the right decision for everyone, but I wanted to say something other than "just don't give up", bc when you are in that spot it feels like utter bulsh*t. Social media has us comparing our skills and success to a million other people every day, and as harsh as it sounds, it's just not worth breaking yourself up over it. There is also no need to monetise every hobby you have and become the absolute best in it, especially when you are young.
So, to sum it up:
#art tips#art suggestions#art tipp: draw a fuckton make it make you happy#wow I even used that tag before see I really do mean it#locally sourced art#adjacent#procreate

When you were developing your own unique style (which, btw, i adore) what were some of your inspirations? Which artists did you study and what kind of tutorials did you use to springboard off of?
Oh that’s so sweet of you!!Oh dear so this is gonna be very long, so I’ll put a little ‘keep reading” thing so this isn’t a whole book on yalls’ dash. xD(EDIT i dont think it worked and im too lazy to fix it so sufferrrr)
So growing up, and as a VERY young child I gathered quite a few art books, most of them anime based. I think through middle school and maybe freshmen year of high school I did have a lot of inspiration from Manga like styles mainly from artbooks that I just so happened to get over the years. However, I did always have a draw to style that were similar to Disney, but not as perfect, if that makes any sense? I remember having a Deviantart, and there there was artist under Pookadoodle. I adored their work and always wanted my style to shift from a not so great anime style to something that what I could best describe at the time as “Disney, but way more creative”. I loved it when artist really push character expression, make a nose big or someone ridiculously square and short. for years I tried shifting my style into something like it, even more expressive, but never did because I wanted to develop my own style at the same time. Sometimes it made things even more frustrating because my style was INCREDIBLY inconsistent. (Here’s some arts as far back as 2014 to 2017, using pictures of an oc I’ve drawn over the years)2014:
2015:(lmbo my art got worse in some spots)
2015 Honerable mention (I DREW GF BEFORE I EVEN WATCHED THE SHOW?? IT WAS A REQUEST):
2016:
2017:
From this point forward, is when I started drawing an absolute unhealthy amount of GF, and I started putting my art on Tumblr. xDIf you want to see more of my older stuff (tho some of it is hidden lmbo), check out my rankin’ old DA here. From here I started taking college level classes and so my artwork improved immensely, but it still wasn’t quite what I wanted? I felt that my character design was bland, not enough of that body and design variation that I wanted? So overtime I began to discover artists that were leaning in the direction of the art style that I always craved. Some examples that I can think of on top of my head that really inspire me today are:Tom BoothSam Nassour(And so many that I can’t remember right now, but I’ve got a huge pinterest folder with art that inspires me art style wise and what not here)AS FOR TOOTERAL DO I HAVE THE THING FOR YOUI have SO MANY REFS that I have used over the years literally through pinterest and I have 90% of it organized into folders and such on thereHere’s my tooteral folder, in it are subboards that are labeled pertaining to what they teach you about!!!I hope this answered your question, at least just a little! Really for a while most of my inspirations are found on whims and finding random art, but lately Pinterest has been my tool to sort it all. xDI really recommend looking at that tooteral folder because there is stuff in there that I reference CONSTANTLY.Have a lovely day bean

I'm really curious, what kind of references do you use for the uniforms in your hetalia art and where do you find them? I've been trying to draw them with accurate uniforms from WW2, not just the ones in the show, and I haven't had much luck finding any refs. (Btw your art is amazing, and I love how you draw everyone a unique way!!)
So a long time ago I found this site that shows all the WW2 uniforms I don’t know how accurate they are but it seems legit. Update: Ok so that link has changed quite a bit most of the uniforms are gone but the ones I did have to save on my computer I dumped in Pinterest board

Finally finished the new study from the ref I found on Pinterest! @InfinitePainter is awesome, I discovered how to use adjustment layers and tilt-shift blur(which is awesome btw). And as usual you can find my brushes by the link in bio. Let me know if you have questions! Thank you and stay awesome! #knbrushes #digitalart #digitalpainting #ipadproart #ipadart #dailyart #painting #dailypainting #study https://www.instagram.com/p/B81pOUgD61m/?igshid=1pfyd0wcwik2y

heya, it's the anon from the other day!! thank you so much for replying and i must say, your answer was so fucking interesting and i must've read it like 5 times or so by now. everything you explained about your creative process and personal history with drawing was fascinating and i think i can say that you truly inspired me to try and perseverate, so thanks again! i have another question i forgot to ask, about colors, and again it's about how you visualize them. i find it pretty hard -(1)
-(2) when i look around me to differenciate which color is what; by that, i mean that i can’t really put a name on colors, especially if it’s sort of gray, to me it will look gray even though it’s actually dark blue if you were to pick it out with the eyedropper tool. and i just can’t imagine how you color and shadow things without a reference, like how do you figure out the exact hue you should put there ? i’m kinda rambling here but it just blows my mind how you can make realistic looking -
-(3) drawings and get the textures and shadows and tones all great?? like, for instance, your mermen malec piece; the tails are so beautiful? how do you manage to get the darkest and the lightest parts right, it’s so hard to imagine the scene and reproduce it?? i’m just in love with what you do at this point. about drawing from pictures, i feel like i can do it alright but i can’t help but feel like i’m not a “real artist” because of that, because i don’t exactly “create” something from scratch-
-(4) i’ve even been told by people that if i wasn’t drawing things without ref, it was because i wasn’t confident enough (love it when people think they know how you work and who you are and feel free to pass judgement upon it!). i’ve seen that you useddifferent papers for the rough sketches and the lineart pieces that come after, so i was also wondering what kind of paper you used for the first sketches? does the paper quality matter for them since they’re not final product? and i think that’s-
-(5? or 6) that’s it ! again, i hope you’re having a great day and i wish you the best ! love ya
Hey there :D
I’m glad I managed a answer of some quality :3 and reading, that it made you want to keep going totally made my morning.
You do create things from scratch, my friend. You start with a blank page and have a drawing in end, right? There you go. Wether or not you have a reference, you still have to draw the picture yourself, it’s not that with having a picture to copy from, the lines suddenly start appearing on the page. ;3
And when people say, you lack confidence because you draw from reference, I would say, that you simply find beauty in the things, that exist in the world around you and you want to capture that. And I would say, in terms of bravery, it is pretty brave to draw something people can compare to the original. Taking on reality is brave. Also, on that same note, I personally decided, that you will always be the only one to completely understand your art. You create art for yourself, it’s a part of you and a form of expression, that will never be completely open to others, and is surprisingly intimate in certain aspects, I think. So, who cares? (If they offer constructive criticism, great, if their comments are harmful to you, don’t listen.)
Sidenote: Classmates used to mock me for drawing non-realistically, with the big eyes and the non-natural colored hair and my mother was always like ‘do they have to have this pointed chins?’. Somebody is always going to be ‘Oh, that’s not real art’. But at some point, I decided, that there are so many different kinds of art and art forms, why shouldn’t what I create not be found somewhere on that spectrum?
About the colors … it’s a learning curve. xD One of the reasons I started working with grey tones is, that this way, I only have to look for the shading and not the color combination, because I am not good at that. I have like a few color combinations, that I know will work and I tend to use them whenever I use colors at all. I have a few cheating strategies, like combining colors with black or grey, or only using grey tones and then you can put in a pop of any color you want to create a certain ‘dramatic effect’. In general, I would say, just try it out. Like, I have papers filled with random patches of colors, where I drew one marker over another and just looked at what happened. So yeah, there’s a lot of experimenting in it on my part. And I think, being able to see colors is a question of training, too.
By now i have a collection of all different kinds of paper, I just like paper and trying out different kinds of paper. The yellowish one I usually make my sketches on is a bit thinner (90g or 61 lb) than the white one I use for the clean linearts (185 g) and the difference is just that. Both are labeled as sketch paper and I can use markers on both of them, but on the sketch-paper, I feel less pressured to make a perfect drawing and I just don’t like pencil marks from erased lines on the white one. I did some lineart on the yellowish paper, too, and if i needed thinner paper for tracing of a sketch via lightbox, I wouldn’t have an issue with taking the yellowish one. :)
Specifically about that mermaid-drawing I have to add, that I have no real experience with water colors at this point. Whatever you see turned out good on the picture in the end is often a case of me going ‘Let’s see, what happens when I do this’ and stuff turning out semi-successful. For the tails I had references at the start. I mean, not for that particular picture, but in general. They are based on the tails of tropical fish. So, when talking about the shading, It’s a lot about looking at pictures of fish and adapting the shades from there. Where fins overlap, there are shadows, etc. (Pinterest is awesome for that, btw)And I also usually wet the area I want to paint first and then dip the brush in paint and put it at a point in a corner, where I know will be a shadow and due to the formerly applied water, the color spreads out itself and I just help a bit with the brush, I think. I mostly follow the form of whatever I’m coloring; going from one side of the tail to the other with a slight curve and the farther I get, the more the brush will run out of color and there’s the effect. I usually put shadows at the edges and where fins overlap the tail to add depth, but there’s really not any kind of detailed plan behind it, especially with water colors.
When it’s with skin, there are just some general areas where I like adding shadows, which is around the eyes, under the eyebrows, wherever the hair falls, underneath the chin and on the lips and nose. I saw that kind of shading in a lot of other drawings, and kind of just adapted it. If you would look closer, I’m pretty sure, that most of them would not be as they are if you’d be going for natural lighting. But I like it and therefore I will keep putting them there. :3Shadows with water colors for me work the way of using more or less of the same color and with copics I have the advantage of them being numbered according to their hue of a certain color. So, light grey is C-1 and it goes darker through C-2, C-3, C-5, and so on, and this way, when I use C-2 as a base color, I will use C-3 for the shadows and C-5 for the darkest parts of those shadows.
But all in all it’s a process. When you draw a lot fishes, for example from reference you start learning where shadows will most likely be and this way, you don’t need the reference material that close by if you’re not interested in copying it in detail. I think, you subconsciously learn how shadows work on a certain object at some point. It’s like learning a new form of math and in the beginning you will have to write down every little step you take, but when you’re secure enough in the method, you will start to skip them. Just give yourself time.
As for textures it’s again about looking at reference material. To learn about how shadows work on different kinds of material, working on how to translate that with whatever material you’re using. Also, youtube tutorials are great as well. Just keep in mind, that you don’t have to do things exactly as shown on the video, just look if you can learn something new from it, that feels like it could work for you.
And I tell you, copying from nature and life is one the most useful things you can do. Writers work with research material and rerference material is the research of artists. Never let yourself get talked down for doing that. You wouldn’t call a writer ‘not a real writer’ just because they wrote something about a real story, right? :) It’s simply another genre. And they don’t write about things, that really happened beacuse they aren’t confident enough, it’s just, that they like what they write about and they also have to start with a blank page and therefore from scratch. Just the same way, you are a real artist. :)
Creating art is constant work and practice. Something will always be a challenge and somebody will always be better than you. The most important thing is, that you don’t give up if you really want to do it and that at some point you reach that feeling of ‘I like my art’. That should be your goal :)
I hope this helped, feel free to ask if anything was left unclear. :) Have a great day!
