i do firmly believe tbh that kesel & co intended kon to be a fully kryptonian clone of superman from the start, and only brought the "metahuman clone of paul westfield with a metagene to mimic superman's powers" thing in because of editorial and the last son mandate. kon introduces himself as a clone of superman, is recharged later in his solo by exposure to concentrated sunlight, and, crucially, in superboy/robin: world's finest three, is vulnerable to kryptonite. also, notably, during "the harvest" arc in superman comics a little later, he's vulnerable to red sun energy. this is before anything remotely to do with geoff's stupidass luthor retcon - kon's pretty much just written as fully kryptonian as soon as editorial isn't scrutinizing him after his debut. it's interesting to ponder...

A thing I did not have on my bingo card about Tumblr’s implementation of mature content warnings was how firmly they would cement for me something that I kinda already knew, namely the hilarious dark irony that one of my more reliable triggers is. Trigger warnings. Recently I saw a post that was saying something along the lines of how we shouldn't call fantasy minotaurs "minotaurs" because of the original meaning of the name being specific to how it was the "bull of minos" and denoting a specific individual.

I'm going to be honest, I don't agree with this. There are various reasons, but one of the main ones is that it just feels... wrong? Like if you have minotaurs in your fantasy setting but call them something like "bullmen" or something it just sounds incorrect because it's literally a minotaur. You don't see fantasy stuff commonly calling things that look like dragons and fly like dragons "wingsaurs" or something that isn't a variation of wyvern, wyrm, drake, or dragon because it's literally a dragon.

And I also just don't think there are a lot of good name substitutions that actually work? Like I said, minotaur is so synonymous with what it is that it just feels wrong to change the name for that reason. Giving it some scientific name like "homo taurus" would just be weird, and unless you're substantially making it something that isn't a minotaur then you're just taking unnecessary extra steps.

nobody will ever understand the beef i have with some of the tf vocab words. like who decided that teeth are “denta” and tongues are “glossa” like that. doesn’t flow correctly in an english sentence dude. that does not sound right. don’t even get me started on how venting or intake is used to mean breathing in or out. DEFINITELY don’t get me started on the ENTIRE CONCEPT of CYBERTRONIANS DRAWING A DISTINCTION BETWEEN BOTS AND FEMMES? WHY IS BOT NOT A GENDER NEUTRAL TERM?
