They first met on the night that he broke into the palace, intending to rob the royal family blind. She had caught him coming in through the window. The princess opened her mouth to scream, but he moved like a shadow, and pressed a gloved hand over her lips to keep her quiet.

"Where did my bracelet go?" the princess asked, raising a brow and looking at the thief as they walked together through the garden. He chuckled, reaching into his pocket. "You caught me," he answered, voice low. He clasped the bracelet back onto her wrist.

"I'm going to be a Queen one day," the princess said. "We can't keep doing this." The thief planted his lips on hers. "Worried I'll ruin your reputation, Princess?"

"Run away with me," the thief whispered softly in the ear of the princess. "We can be free and live the life we want to live. No rules and no guards to follow us around."

A thief nimbly steps past drunken man-orc guards after prying a giant ruby from the eye of a statue with his dagger (Don Greer, Down in the Dungeon, Squadron/Signal Publications, 1981). This looks like a nod to Trampier's iconic AD&D Players Handbook cover, also referenced by Holloway in I3: Pharaoh.

Started reading The Queen's Thief series and let me just say that I've not been able to read a physical book in months! I've been living off audiobooks. But this 300 page complaint from a bitchy little thief has me HOOKED! I'm speeding through it, it's so good!

to be honest most of my writing for these guys draws from myself and my experiences and my loved ones!

I do not think much about other fictional characters when I am writing them-- if anything, I think of relationship dynamics from fiction that I like.

That said, it is still fun to try and think of comparisons :)

Pilfer! It's the world's most powerful pickpocket! After drinking down the Potion of Plus Ten Thousand, Pilfer's pocket poaching became so powerful that he mistakenly steals random organs as well! The joys of pickpocketing are waning fast on this focused filcher!
