Some older doodles of an older story that I am still working on, it’s just taking longer. They’re from the crossover of The Deep that I’ve been doing with my original world filled with lore and creatures from another dimension and…absolutely no story cause i don’t know where to go with it yet. So I’ve been sandboxing a crossover fic with The Deep cause i still want to play with these creatures and the worlds lore and mechanics, and I’m hoping writing some sort of story with it will help spur creative juices with coming up with an actual story for the world. ANYWAYS-

As a refresher for anyone who read the fic, Ant is living in a town that has been experiencing a bunch of random portals opening, releasing a flood of new creatures from another dimension, and triggering a strange transformation in himself that makes him turn into one of the various species from that dimension, and flooding him with a strange urge to protect the people of his town from the more dangerous outer dimensional creatures. Ant as the creature, called a Vareekla, itself hasn’t been too involved in the fics I’ve written themselves quite yet, and I’ve only posted i think, like, one doodle of what exactly the Vareekla looks like

So, all of that bit of a description later, have some doodles of Vareekla!Ant being a Creature and…well, Ant

I know I’ve made other posts talking about or alluding to this but like. obviously there are like the old hollywood movies in the sort of dyke subtext canon (all about eve, rebecca, johnny guitar, etc) but like. there are so many movies that like 10 people have seen but I have such a clear gay vision or interpretation for it. most of them aren’t even GOOD. and yet!!

like the great lie is the one that haunts me the most (or the women but I think that one is kind of different for me perhaps bc I’ve already talked about it here a lot or perhaps bc I think of it as being more well known and watched than I think it actually is? actually it’s probably that I think it is an overall good and well executed and entertaining movie which isn’t really true of most of these tbh). but I also think a lot about like when ladies meet, or old acquaintance, or sadie mckee, or the shining hour, or the model and the marriage broker, or a woman’s secret, or the bigamist, or craig’s wife, or born to be bad, or separate tables, or even dark victory to a degree. others too certainly those are just the ones that come to mind. for half of these it’s not even like oh these women are gay together it’s just like hey I think she’s a lesbian. and I’m right. but my genius will never be fully appreciated in my day unfortunately.

#a woman’s secret has kind of been haunting me since I watched it like a week or so ago in that it’s literally got so many interesting #pieces and facets and I find so much of it very interesting but they just like really don’t dig in or come together so it’s enough that #I think about it and not remotely satisfying which I’m beginning to think is just how I feel about nicholas ray’s stuff. I don’t really #have a large sample but like born to be bad is not a movie that I think is good but it has like infected me somehow. which i did and still #do largely attribute to joantaine. but like idk. and also I wanted to like Johnny guitar and obviously there’s a lot of interesting stuff #in there to dissect it just… feels unsatisfying/like it doesn’t come together. idk what it is.#also like it is fully sampling bias that across the three I listed as noted subtext and then all the others I listed #there’s uh. 4 joan crawford movies 4 bette davis movies 3 joan fontaine movies #but it’s still really funny to me lmao… I will say how did I not list ANY babs movies… that can’t be right… I mean like night nurse #and ladies they talk about def have some gay moments and like. walk on the wild side exists lmao #but I wouldn’t really consider any of those to be consistent with the thing I’m trying to describe here lol #anyways. finished the aq quest yesterday night tbh probably my fav aq quest to date maybe

#i liked the part where we ran around fighting and helping and i liked all cutscenes a lot and i also liked capitano #very much #in terms of cutscenes it's probably only behind focalors death and neuvi getting his authority back for me #directly ahead of nilou dancing in front of the akademya #both the last one with mauvika and the one with cap saving xn they were both soooo good #yeah #yeah that's my top fav cutscenes for sure #the end of fontaine #then these two #then nilou #then the one in inazuma when kazuha's friend's vision activates again that one's SOOOO good #hate that people read that as kazuha activating it when it's obviously meant to say that strong enough believes and desires #trascend death and live on like the contrast with people being practically dead without their visions #vs a man being dead but still living on through his vision enough to reach his ultimate goal from beyond the grave #insane!!!! all respect to kazuha but his friend was insane without his help truly insane!!!!#...that was a tangent alright #anyway #new aq quest #very good #hell yeah

Another incorrect quote, but it’s only one, and it’s to introduce another OC

Meet Nate, the guy Fontaine eventually ends up with. Like Kari, he also started out as a ‘these submarine dwelling kids need more friends’. And while Fontaine has been shown and mentioned to have plenty of ‘land friends’ that she likes to hang out with, unlike Ant who has Jeffrey and Griffin for exactly one episode, i decided to actually design those land friends, and Nate was one of them. And like Kari, he eventually wound up filling a romantic role as well. But like Kari I made sure he was a developed character before any of that happened, so he didn’t get stuck in the ‘protagonists romantic interest’ role, with nothing beyond that pertaining to his character. Nate is the mom friend to end all mom friends, he knows how to cook, he carries sunblock and snacks everywhere, owns five fanny packs, and thinks noodle-head is a devastating insult. I talk a bit more about him in one of my Ao3 fics, which at this point is entirely Incorrect Quotes and headcanons, and exactly one Oneshot I’m genuinely considering reposting as it’s own story because I don’t see any other oneshots making their way into that story with how long it takes me to write them
