In my personal headcannon, Edward elric is trans masc, does that mean that i hc him as afab? No, amab people can be transmasc the same way that afab people can be transfem.

I've seen too many people equate those terms with FTM and MTF respectively, and that is a harmful misconception, those terms are specifically for non binary people, i also hate the idea that only afab people can be non binary, and i see this in a lot of headcannons, making characters afab just so they can be "transmasc" transmasc people are not trans men, does that mean you shouldn't hc characters as afab? No, headcannons are literally your own personal opinion of what fits a character, if u wanna headcannon characters as afab, there's nothing wrong with that, but if you want to headcannon a character as transmasc and the only way you can imagine that being possible is the person being afab, maybe examine that.

To add to this point, non binary people are not always androgynous, and no non binary person owes ANYONE androgyny, if an enby is most comfortable presenting in a way that is traditionally associated with their gender at birth, THEY ARE STILL NON BINARY. I've seen people say that just because some enbies don't dress androgynous that they're not really trans, that is so stupid and transphobic, I've also noticed that any enby choosing to present fem is automatically assumed to either just be a trans woman in denial or a fraud, again THIS IS MISSING THE POINT OF BEING NON BINARY and is also based in misogyny, since I don't see trans masc enbies being accused of this same thing

so when straight people ask me why I say I’m “queer” or “gay” instead of sharing my actual identity as a panromantic demisexual non-binary sapphic queer I just tell them “ok look, when you’re talking to someone who isn’t local and they ask you where you’re from and you either say the name of the largest city nearby or ‘town name, suburb of large nearby city’ so they can get some geographical context of where you’re located right, bc they’re probably not going to know the name of the little town you actually live in.”

but if you’re talking to a local you can say the name of your actual town bc they have a greater chance of knowing where/what that is.

ok well when I’m talking to a straight person I start with queer bc chances are they aren’t as familiar with the context of all the little towns in that big queer city and need gps (gay positioning system) to find me.

if I’m talking to another queer person and I say I live in a suburb of gay city in a town called panromantic on the demisexual side of the tracks which is in the county of queer and I live off the intersection of non-binary and sapphic, they’d probably be able to find me with little to no problems, make sense?

listen to me: you can love and support trans men and trans women at the same time. you can love and support transmasc and transfemmes at the same time. you do not have to make things into this-or-that decisions. you do not have to turn everything into us-vs-them, friend-vs-enemy, sports team ass dynamics. transfems and transmascs are not at opposite ends of ANYTHING, and we will never, ever be enemies or polar sides that cannot intersect or co-exist peacefully. you can support more than one type of trans person and distribute that support equally. i promise you fucking can.
