Another doodle! I was supposed to draw a third guy named Baron, both Baron and Duke were the idea made by my kinda brother, just they didn't have a design yet, excuse my bad handrwiting. Teya, Duke and Baron are the trio that just... gets in trouble way too much (Baron isn't here, he's the manipulative asshole that can't do shit on his own) and Teya was already on my blog a little bit!

Although most Mesozoic mammals were rather small, a few different lineages produced some pretty hefty-sized forms – most notably the metatherian Didelphodon, the gondwantherians Adalatherium and Vintana, and the eutriconodont Repenomamus.

And now we've got another one to add to that list.

Patagomaia chainko lived towards the end of the Cretaceous, about 70 million years ago, in what is now Patagonia near the southern tip of South America. Known from some partial leg and hip bones, it was potentially the largest known Mesozoic mammal yet discovered – estimated to have been similar in size to a modern bobcat, roughly 50cm tall at the shoulder (~1'8") and weighing around 14kg (~31lbs).

Distinctive anatomical features of the bones indicate it was an early therian mammal, the group that contains both modern marsupials and placentals, but it can't currently be classified any more specifically than that. Mesozoic therian fossils are very rare in the southern continents, so Patagomaia's presence in late Cretaceous South America adds to their known range and diversity, as well as providing an example of surprisingly large body size for the time.

Without more material it's impossible to tell what Patagomaia's ecology was. I've gone for a fairly generic life appearance here, and while what's known of its joints and muscle attachments doesn't indicate climbing specializations, plenty of unexpected tetrapods still like to get up on tree branches.

Sulestes

Sulestes was a genus of deltatheroidean mammal from the Cretaceous Period. Its type species is S. karakshi. The known specimens were found in the Bissekty Formation, Kyzyl Kum desert, Uzbekistan. Sulestes was the first and currently only identified metatherian taxon from the Bissekty Formation.

Its autapomorphies include the first premolar's oblique orientation relative to the dentary, an asymmetrical third molar, the presence of a fourth non-vestigial molar, and a double-rooted first premolar.

Sulestes is known from its holotype, a left maxilla fragment, as well as referred specimens. These specimens were originally labelled under "Deltatherus" and "Marsasia" and consist of a right petrosal, right maxilla, two left maxilla fragments, left coronoid process, several right and left dentary fragments, and a few isolated teeth. Sulestes is recovered as the sister taxon to Deltatheroides and Deltatheridium within Deltatheroida.

Herald... has she mentioned how much she hates that title? Name? This dragon ordeal is only going to make it worse. But that's something she can't help. Because if she did nothing, all of Haven's civilians would be dead right now. She has to focus on the big pictures; no matter what she feels like.

"You can call me Theria, you know... amazing feats aside, I'm still just a person."

Theria tries to joke as she sits up. She can feel her broken ribs and the bandages around her chest underneath her clothes. The healers did well, but that doesn't mean it doesn't hurt.

"Honestly, I fell and I fell underneath Haven. Didn't think I'd make it out of there until this mark on my hand blasted demons away the second it sensed them..." She looks down at her left hand. The faint glow is gone now but it flickers temporarily. She still doesn't understand how or why it has come to her. But if she can escape the dragons... maybe her own gods chose her to stop all this. After all, Mythal could turn into a dragon. Maybe there was some unseen blessing she couldn't hear but it still came all the same...

Or maybe not and this is all some cruel cosmic joke.

"But... Are you alright? And the others, Cullen?" She asks, trying to take her mind off such things.

Bdubs message!! What do you like about the guy?

ok forgive me, i ain’t good with words. but THERE'S LOTS….. lets focus on his dedication. it stands out to me the most. whether it be in relation to his personal work, his craft, his constant desire to develop skills further and ability to welcome new techniques and information and obsess over details, and impulsive need to teach and make it more accessible for others…

as well as the clashes he faced between his personal desires and family commitments (wife, kids, family business, etc) and how he handled it with great importance, engaging in deep self reflection … now how careful he is with his time. his level of maturity with both self fulfillment and self discipline and just general self improvement is really inspiring.

also dedication to small things like… bits that he refuses to let die and the commitment he still has to all of them (decades later…). he just loves hearing his friends laugh no matter what!!!! and when he's being messed with – you just know he's got the biggest smile on his face.

speaking of… he is soooo affectionate it makes me sick. he loves his friends so so much and shows it in so many ways he is just so SWEET and direct with it. the amount of pet names he has for everyone………. my god. i think about that clip of him from one of his decked out streams where he is watching the hermits just nerd talk and he is so full of admiration. i can’t handle it. he is so endearing to me. ol’ bdubs bundle of joy <3
