I’m reflecting on cesaire’s work again and one of the little flourishes he does in discourse on colonialism is that he says the west will have to answer for its crimes against the human community. and I especially love this line because he’s using the same bourgeois universalising language that the imperial core so often does (“human rights” “freedom and justice for all” “spreading democracy across the globe”) but as a cudgel against the west, to reframe the human community as all those who lay outside of it. anyway I think everyone should read discourse on colonialism

Just. Dropping this here. L drugging Light until he’s dazed and groggy and can’t think straight, pulling him onto his lap and gently petting his hair as Light’s clouded-over glossy eyes look up at him and he struggles to say something through incoherently slurred mumbles that sounds suspiciously like L’s name and a plea. L cupping Light’s cheeks and pulling him closer, letting him flail for purchase until his hands come to clutch lightly at L’s sides like an unbalanced child, telling him he’s so sweet and good for him when he isn’t overusing his pretty little head. Light blinking up at him with wide, dull doe eyes, trying to comprehend what he’s saying, all his extraordinary brilliance and pride vanished under the constraints of a very ordinary body that reacts just like anyone else’s to being sedated. L doesn’t prefer him like this, truthfully, all docile and tame, but it’s worth it to pretend as such for a little when he’s recording everything and knows the real Light is going to gag at how helpless and dumb he looks and how he just gave L the reactions he wanted while being unaware of it.

Y'know I tend to agree with people when they say stuff like "female characters should not always have to be perfect they should be allowed to have flaws that aren't likeable ones and not always be girl boss stereotypes" but I cannot describe the rage I feel when they use erza scarlet from ft as an example of this YOU WILL NEVER GET HER LIKE I DO.

you know what, I actually will talk about this because it's bothering me. The issue with focussing so heavily on syd and carmy's potential for a romantic relationship isn't that there's something inherently unintellectual about romance or whatever, it's that a lot of people seem incapable of doing that without immediately flattening the story and ignoring or intentionally misreading any and all nuance for the sake of that romance. Every scene suddenly becomes about how it impacts their relationship, every analysis is done through a romantic lens, every frame or line of dialogue becomes about finding some easter egg or hint that "proves" these people should start dating. Their dynamic is absolutely a fundamental part of this show, but if you can only see it as a will-they-won't-they, you miss so much of what the story is actually trying to say with these two.

There are good versions of this story where their relationship is romantic and there are good versions of this story where it isn't, but as soon as you decide them being together is "the point," you lose the ability to actually judge the story for what it is, not what you want it to be.

been thinking of Hobie humming or quietly singing lullabies to help his friends sleep during a rough night without even realizing he’s doing it sometimes. He always falls asleep last despite being constantly tired so he’s just watching them all calm down as he sings and have a few hours of peace from his singing, and it becomes a subconscious habit at some point, and he can’t explain the feeling it gives him, just saying he feels “full”, but there’s no weird disconnect from him having spider-powers and not his friends, there’s no haunting feeling of their efforts never being enough, there isn’t any sort of butterflies or fire lighting inside of him, it’s all super mundane, yet these moments are where he feels the most fulfilled, very “full”

I cant find the post which goes into how Astarion wouldnt want the player character to be their one source of blood because

1. Thats immediately entering a relationship of dependence again and he wants to be independent

2. Thats not enough blood

Let me add counterpoint 3: vampire astarion being joined by a player character to hunt animals large enough for a proper meal (and bring back drained and butchered for the others) is such a good mental image that I immediately want 10 fanarts

You may say, astarion can hunt big animals just fine on his own but I say cmon medieval boar hunting was a whole thing it was a sport it was a group activity because the animal was so dangerous in its death throes

Cant you just picture Wyll on a horse with a boar-spear like its a game of polo and Astarion running on the ground like his hunting dog?????

Halsin taking wolf form for a spin to hunt in a pack of two and when someone passes by they ignore the tableau of animals feeding until it dawns on them that one of those red muzzled creatures with their face in an elk was a humanoid not a beast???
