Jikook and the Importance of Photos

Photographs are special. They map out our lives through precious memories. They leave a footprint in time that can forever be part of our history. These glimpses of our past, make us who we are and show what or who is important to us. They are full of so much love and emotions, even more so when they are shared with those most trusted to us. This goes for every photo shared by the members.

 I personally think it’s amazing that we can tell when a photo of Jimin is taken by Jungkook, there’s a certain style to it and it comes across even at a glance. One of my favourite photos of Jimin by Jungkook is this one:

This photo was taken from the behinds of Life Goes On. Each MV was beautifully directed by Jungkook, and it’s hard to miss the references made from within their old dorm. I know Jungkook isn’t keen on photos but, just like during GCFT, Jimin is looking at Jungkook and not the camera here with that smile. With that one look, that we are so familiar with, we can trace every single moment within their history which has that same shining expression. It tells a story over time, but also that one photo itself is so telling in the way that it was captured. One of my favourite photos of Jungkook by Jimin is this one:

There’s something raw and delicate in this photo.You can see it in Jungkook’s eyes. Each item in the photo tells its own little story, from the Birthday cake to the polaroid photos on the table that we never saw. This photo is all we saw from the night of Jungkook’s Birthday in 2019 and sometimes I am reminded that with these glimpses into their lives, there are still so many moments of theirs that we are unaware of. For example, Jungkook had a hickey on his neck during MOTS:Online and none of us had any idea until the DVD Behinds came out. 

For every selca or video that Jikook has shared with us, it shows a part of them that we are so lucky to witness. To be able to watch their growth over the years is magical and something I will always cherish. Why am I going on about photos and memories though?  Because they give so much of themselves to us and I will never take it for granted, nor expect them to give more to us than they want to. Some of their memories are for them only, but we can still hold dear what we know already…

Some of you know this already, but I have been caring for my Mother lately. Over the last few months, her memory has worsened. In an attempt to help, we play memory games and repeat simple tasks together. However, her memory is something that cannot be simply fixed with such methods. I had the idea to get out family photos, until I realised that we had stopped taking them when my parents divorced. It’s made me more proactive in archiving things that I do each day. Every little thing I see or hear, I note it down or save the song. In a way, it’s also how I associate with BTS or Jikook. When the BTS World soundtrack came out, I was having a really bad day and it gave me a lot of comfort. I smile whenever I hear Pied Piper because it’s one of my friends favourite songs. Any time I hear “Jungkookie” or “Jimin-ssi”, a barrage of memories come to the front of my mind and I grasp onto all of them whilst I still can. 

I'm sure it's not just me who does this either, Jimin and Jungkook probably do this themselves. You could see that when Jungkook was watching Jimin’s compilation with us. He was recollecting the same memories as us, but he also has access to an entirely different set of memories that we don’t know of. We also saw that with the way Jimin and Jungkook both explained the Rainy Day Fight. During the Festa video, Jungkook mentioned “rainy day” and expected Jimin to understand what he meant. Later on, Jimin and Jungkook gave their own versions of what happened in their separate lives. They both more or less experienced the same thing, but blamed themselves for their actions and not the other. 

They love adding to their own collections of memories. Every single time that Jimin watched Jungkook rehearse and the other way around, enough so that they could probably be a backup dancer. All the clips they have but haven’t shared. The moments we don’t find out until later, the inside jokes they have without context. We don’t understand, but that doesn’t matter. Only they have to and we just watch and smile. Their memories are a huge part of them, it’s what makes their bond so special.

I've been thinking a lot about The Alchemy lately. One of the many, many things I love about Tay is how many different angles we can view songs from.

I have been toying with the idea that this song is about her preparing for her last beard with the ogre. miss ma'am loves to break records and she can do so with the heteronormative society and a big ol' distraction. there are a lot of meathead references in here too but just like So High School, i don't think it's positive or endearing.

with so much death and rebirth in her work, I interpreted this as every bearding situation being a lifetime and now we're starting a new lifetime

which chemicals? likely, the Forget Him medication from Fortnight MV. this can be the promise of success, this can be entering back into the closet; but essentially there had to have been an BIG incentive or push. and even moreso, it was something Tay really had to swallow but was not her choice--it was prescribed by the ward. and this "Forget Him drug" could bring forth Taylor Swift The Brand. Taylor Swift The Brand comes with a manic high, a hunger for success, a desire to push through whatever she needs to overcome. there's probably lots of spite in there too.

in addition, wine drunk is super different! wine brings a warm carelessness. personally, wine makes me feel like i'm a bad bitch and life isn't that serious.

Taylor Alison Swift: The Mastermind. note how she's focused on the crown, not the actual "muse"

i took this as a line to her fans. so many people tune in to the big headlines because we, as a society, have a weakness to be fascinated by/addicted to the drama. especially taylor swift drama! our hearts are still reserved for any juicy tea she might have

honestly, who are we to fight the alchemy?

this feels like an act of acceptance and a little defeat. don't forget, taylor is still on those chemicals that hit her like white wine. so she succumbs to the fact that the world's biggest pop star and an award-winning NFL player would definitely make for lots of success. this is why she came back, to come out on top. i've seen others comment on the fact that she uses alchemy instead of chemistry. (they have the same end rhyme and the same syllables so alchemy was very intentional.) they're making gold out of robust situations, they're not sharing energy with one another.

this next verse reminds me of the structure of the first verse. the first 3 lines feel like a sense of defending actions to someone else while the last two feel like another act of self-perseverance and having to hype herself up.

i really can't see this as anything other than a jab at the meathead. those illiterate tweets of his surfaced and we all found out he really is an idiot.

this line does confuse the hell out of me otherwise. if anyone has any thoughts i would love to hear!

i know a lot of people find this endearing saying he chose her over the trophy. but i think it's Taylor asking "where's the trophy?" with her eyes on the prize still. and the dummy loses sight of what they are actually after

but, yet, here we are again: swiffers thinking she's being cutesy with some dude but in reality this is about her and her success.

this song all feels like work. i don't know if anyone else played the alchemist game where you start with the most basic materials and have to make all kinds of substances, eventually getting to gold. and, man, was it challenging. just like i can imagine it's challenging to make this dirtbag into a "glamorous gentleman."

Purple guy from altdrdt and unknown girl from LGI MV are related (starri crack (?) theory #2 ) (i have some actual valid points tho trust me)

while going through the new updated designs for alt drdt, i’ve realized that purple guy and unnamed girl share many similarities. this has led me into believing that they are somehow related.

don’t see it? here is a picture i made highlighting all the similarities between the two.

this, in my humble opinion, is enough to tell that they are DEFINITELY related.

You know how one of the footnotes go something like ‘_____ _____ does not exist. I was always an only child.’?

Everyone says that the missing name is Diana Chiem and David is the one talking.

But what if the roles were switched and it’s referring to David himself?

Perhaps Diana and David had some sort of fallout and Diana prefers to simply deny David’s existence at all.

Alternatively David is committing identity fraud and David Chiem is not his real name (make that starri crack theory #3!!).

Or vice versa and Diana does exist but David pretends that she isn’t ( please i’m holding on to the small hope that she’s real. diana chiem my baby. )

I’m going to be honest. If David was lying about Diana’s existence, why would he bring her up in the first place and pretend he did have a sister?? I don’t see any way he benefits from it, at least personally.

Happy Birthday Nico Hakobyan!

-Nico is the Ultimate Pet Therapist! This is because, as they've explicitly stated, they like interacting with animals more than humans. They feel as though there are many unwritten rules of human conversation they don't fully understand, while animals are a lot simpler by comparison. Mood.

-Their secret may also play into why they prefer interaction with animals. It was "No one accepted you for your identity. You were constantly mocked by your family, your peers, and everyone else." Basically, people made fun of them because they're non-binary, to the point apparently they threw rocks and mud at them :(

-Speaking of secrets, the quote on Mai's page associated to them is "Everyone confided in her." Presumably they came out to Mai out of their own will, instead of being essentially outed by David (which is one of the many morally wrong things with David's whole "sharing secrets" operation, but this ain't about him).

-And speaking of secret quotes, the one on Nico's page's source code is "Why should I own up for the mistakes that someone else made?" A bit vague, and one which will probably only make sense with future context. Although, it may actually be referencing something we already saw.

-Time to talk about The Gym Incident.

-Ace got Nico's secret at the start of CH2, and because of his own set of issues, he decided to use this power over Nico to bully them relentlessly. Now, Nico also got Ace's secret, but for one reason or another never brought it up. Possibly because they had a "better" idea for how to stop the bullying: in the heat of the moment, Nico threatened to kill Ace. I mean, killing the guy is a lot simpler than the blackmail equivalent of mutually assured destruction, and we know how Nico feels about complicated social rules and norms.

-Thankfully Hu stepped in before things escalated further, although her method might have been, uh, flawed. Giving her friend the benefit of the doubt, she blamed Ace for everything and slapped him. Which, yes, Ace was horrible to Nico. But the death threat should probably be addressed, shouldn't it? Or should they "not be forced to apologize for someone else's mistake?"

-One thing led to another, and Nico tried to kill Ace in the gym.

-To be fair, the whole situation is still surrounded in speculation, but they have admitted to it. To be clear, I don't actually think this is the situation their secret quote refers to, since they did say "I shouldn't have done that" in the trial, so they presumably feel enough remorse to feel like maybe they should apologize, even if Ace is far from blameless. Or maybe I'm wrong and this is the situation the quote refers to, who knows.

-Additionally, they never denied stealing Rose's turpentine to pull this off, so it's very possible they did.

-Oh, yeah! Nico and Rose and friends :D (or at least they were before the turpentine thing). They shared an FTE, which only had a 0,4% chance of happening apparently :O

-It's a very sweet one, where they vibe for a few minutes without talking, then call each other cats, and talk about their issues with communicating their feelings. It's revealed Nico has a pet cat named Tractor (because he meows very loudly), which is pretty old, and that they miss other cats they knew before the killing game. Also, when Rose brings up she's scared of what she knows because of her memory, Nico drops this while thinking of the killing game:

Nico [thought]: Everyone here probably is afraid of themselves and what they might end up doing.

Foreshadowing is a narrative device-

-Their numeral in the the David MV is VIII (8), which is "even if I try to think, IDK!!!". Explained at 1:58:22 in this video, though it's not too complex.

-According to Color Theory they get light blue, with the words "cry, cry, idk!!!" I don't think I need to explain why this applies to Nico, who might actually have more crying sprites than the rest of the cast combined (I don't think that's true, but you get the idea). Mood.

-Their birthday, December 19th, lands on National Hard Candy Day, National Harry (yes the name) Day, National Oatmeal Muffin Day, and National Emo Day, among others. At this point I'm no longer surprised by these things.

Fun facts!

-They like cat-themed things and dislike bathtubs. Cat behavior.

-Like most of the cast, they're American, right-handed, their sexuality is unconfirmed and their hair color is natural.

Taylor said she got the idea for IKYWT and wrote it with Max Martin six months before they were supposed to write together for Red. So this was the first song they wrote together. And WANGBT was released as a single in August 2012. Let's say they finished this song in June. If June is the month they were supposed to start writing together then IKYWT would have happened in December 2011. The whole Harry cheating on Taylor thing happened in April. Six months from April is October, the Red release month. Pretty sure they weren't about to write and release an album the same month. And if Harry and Taylor saw each other in 2011, I don't think harry did anything that could inspire the song. So how did IKYWT happen? Am I missing something?

IKYWT, is one of the few songs Taylor has been direct about the muse for:

When she performed it at the Brits and Harry was front row, so close he could touch the catwalk, she said "It's not hard to access that emotion when the person the song is about is standing by the side of the stage watching."

The music video, has a guy has his Love tattoo.

It's been on her Red, 1989 and Era's mainset lists, but not Reputation, when it was the surprise song in Manchester.

Also Harry owns it, he has a leak called Trouble that refers to it.

Firstly, the timeline is largely unknown

And I think she wants it that way. The secret message "when you saw me dancing" is super vague, vague like it's written about a 17 year old.

In the Red Listening Party she said IKYWT:

"was an idea that I got almost 6 months before I was scheduled to write with Max Martin, and I emailed it to him and said "I just got this idea, I can't wait to bring it to you, I know that we're not ready for a couple of months, but I need you to know that I thought of this thing and I can't wait for you to hear it."

I think it's ambiguous if she did met with Max 'almost' 6 months later or they met sooner because of the email. She was in Conway Studio in April, but we don't know if that was first and that's a bit odd with the timing of MIAB TBH. So, the timeline for these Max Martin Red songs is a bit iffy. Something Max commented on, when asked about their first meeting he said "Again, there's so many stories about these songs" I think he's getting at how much lore has seeped in about Red.

Max also says the first song was "something else", he 'thinks it was their first meeting' and tells the story of the guy from Maroon 5 / WANGBT. It's kind of assumed Maroon 5 was there April 24 because Taylor was, and I think also assumed it was their her first meeting with Max. That Maroon 5 Album came out 57 days later, the lead single was already out. Remember it needs to go to distribution and marketing, so I don't think her first meeting with Max was in April 2012, so I don't think we know when IKYWT was drafted TBH.

We do know she was to work with more producers in January 2012, so the Max Martin date was probably set then. That gives a vague timeline of January - April 2012, but not certainty.

But what you really asked is what event is it about

The Harry/Taylor 2011 timeline/Early 2012 timeline is opaque, and unclear if they were flirting, dating or when it may have changed. Also remember he was 17 and they lived in different countries so I think whatever it was then was quite immature.

The song is mostly about falling for someone who loses interest and 'took a step back', which is also shown in the MV. I ponder if “never loved her” was in the first draft or when it was recorded. My guess is it could have been drafted in late February 2012. They kept being in the same city/some connections November 2011 - first week of February 2012, then suddenly nothing till the Kids Choice Awards late March. February is also when Holy Ground was written, and could fit with the 'almost 6 months' till an unknown date with Max Martin. And I think his transgression was acting like a 17 year old boy bander.

There’s also opportunity for it to be drafted in fall 2011, there were sad arm lyrics there, but I don’t think that works with the max martin story.

But others may have different opinions!

There are so many references in the video, this is nowhere near all of them. The guy gets Harry's love tattoo, with Taylor watching. He wears a flannel shirt, very 2012/2013 Harry, they kiss on a balcony like the Z100 Jingle Bell Ball. He's driving like a kid in a convertible.

NEW MUSIC: Carmen Caska ~ To Be Plugged

NOTE: I originally posted this to AOTY, but thought I'd drop here as well

I have been really excited for this project, ever since it was first mentioned all the way back in 2019/2020.

Over the last few years, it has been relatively quiet on Caska’s front regarding their musical output; a couple demos here and there but otherwise not so much.

In 2020 there was “WHACK” - a more classically hip-hop styled track complete with chipmunk vocals and a real sense of Spaß (to appropriate a Brechtian term) in both Caska’s vocal delivery and lyrics as we learn about the artist’s personal convictions and how they navigate through the world.

In 2021 there was “220 - 2” an interesting listen that with hindsight, due to its pitch shifting and glitchy, yet serene drops, could be viewed as a forecast for the musical direction Caska was headed.

These aside, the last substantial offering Caska was the 2019 mixtape, “ARI”- a project that saw the artist take a dramatic leap forward from their early days of Acoustic-y Lofi Hip-hop (under the alias Toph, or Topshiba) into a world of more industrial/Alternative hip-hop. On “To Be Plugged” however, we see Caska take yet another step - this time incorporating flavours of hyper-pop and electronic music into the mix, yielding a more ambitious, confident and engaging listen.

Over this span we’ve also seen several artist name changes for this project, starting with Ari Mori, moving to Aari Mori finally arriving at Carmen Caska - a fact that is useful to note as they are the literal stages of Caska's devopment.

Context aside, the review begins below

The album opens with “through me” an electronic, shoegaze-y number that sets the sonic stage for what we are about to listen to. Lyrically, Caska establishes a recurring theme of snow - something that is referred to again later on the project. As a listener, you very much “descend” into the world of this project during it’s runtime and it definitely feels so beginning with this track.

“You will drop everything” is an uptempo track that could have fit in on “Ari” - not that this is a bad thing. Instrumentally, this song feels like you’re travelling in a race car, with bending synths, glitchy drums, and a roaring bass.

“Lil Hoe” - is an alternate version of what was the lead single titled “Gutted” released with an accompanying mv in 2020. Due to this song, or at least the idea for it being in the ether for so long relative to the rest of the tracks, I feel most attached to this one. Though I miss the clearer original’s lyrics, in particular section in the original with the lyrics “Made into an addict but I loved her” I appreciate this track for what it is, which at the end of the day is still a hyper-pop banger.

“Have Mercy” is probably one of my favourite songs off this album, there is a fantastic sense of progression throughout its run, the “This is like this many rings” part just goes HARD and I also love the line “all the angels have fallen”

“Last Dance” is an apocalypse party anthem, with fluttering/growling arpeggios - which echo Portishead’s “the rip”

On “Heart Ate Whole” Caska flexes their fantastic production talents - its just a marvel to listen to.

“Tear” is a powerful, yet serene stroll down memory lane, as Caska manages to express the feeling of growing up - I have already written a review for this so I won’t go on much longer- but I wanted to note that it is my thinking that the reference to snow on this record could be a symbol of purity, or innocence, which becomes more powerful considering its use on this particular song

“Kill Me now” - feels Jpegmafia influenced in the best way, especially with the gang vocal chops - there’s a great sense of balance between braggadocio and vulnerability, which reminds me specifically of Peggy’s song “Kenan vs Kel”.

“Valhalla” is another banger - nuff said.

The project ends on “East River”, which I think is one of Caska’s best penned songs. I LOVED the passage “What did he think about?/In those very last breaths before the air ran out/Was it someone/Who gave meaning to every bubble/Who made his heart more than a muscle”. Instrumentally, I liked the distorted guitars and the way the whole composition builds is immaculate. - A truly epic closer.

All in all, I believe that this project is very well conceptualised/executed. Fantastic production, Unique vocals, some decent to brilliant lyrics as well. Would highly recommend. My only critique is that the lyrics are still buried in the mix, of course this is in no small part a stylistic choice, however I still feel that it obfuscates what could otherwise make for a more engaging listen.

This also happened to release on my birthday, so thank you for the amazing gift and keep up the great work, Caska!

A crazy Mikoto Theory!

Hey guys I'm new to MILGRAM (and reddit) unfortunately i missed the first voting but I had this crazy thought recently that we probably got mikoto and his mv all wrong?

( Bear with me here bc I really think I'm onto something with this. )

During the second trial announcement jackalope confirming mikotos DiD struck me as odd. This was really the only piece of Canon lore we've gotten and its very early, if this truly was mikoto faking for sympathy or whatever reason they definitely wouldn't have confirmed DID so early. It was almost as if the creators were trying to steer us away from that theory and I think why is because its way off. If we kept fighting the DiD theory bc it could end up being a problematic representation of a real disorder and chose to vote him guilty again based on the fact that he might possibly be faking we would condem him without even hearing him out. This lead me to rewatch his 1st trial with the thought of "if wether or not he does or does not have DiD" isn't what were supposed to be looking for then what are we looking for?" I don't think the creators expected the he's faking theory to get as popular as it did but the MV was obviously made with something hidden inside (that's the whole point of the game) so what did they want us to look for? Well..exactly what we were looking for in the other 8 MVs before his, who he killed and why.

Now I don't know who he killed but I'm thinking the video was hinting twords more why and what happened after it happened. This is when I started to really analyze the lyrics (English anyway)

The first line

"if I could laugh if I could go back id play dead even though I'm alive right?"

This line right off the bat was interesting as it sounds immediately remorseful, if I could go back and change things I would pretend to be dead instead. Considering this line was shown on top of what I'm assuming is his murder he's probably talking about what happens. But who's "he?"

(excuse my terms if anything comes off as offensive to anyone with did just let me know!)

Red(ill call the more murderous mikoto) looks to be the one to sing on the more aggressive parts of the song

  "if I could end, if I could stop, how long will this dream go on?" More remorse but this time with a reference to a dream?

"You don't have to keep it in, hide it away, I will save me"

Here's where my true theory comes in...this music video isn't mikoto swapping back and forth during all of his murders its Mikoto in the process of creating Blue (the mikoto we all know) to cope with what he did.

  The video isn't taking place of the course of mikoto killing severL people ( serial killer theory) but over the course of a few hours where the guilt gets to be too much to bear.

You don't have to keep in what you did anymore you can hide away with the new innocent alter, I will save me from this depression.

After the scene if him sitting after the murder is the first time we see blue in a cloudy dreamy space but we never see blu outside of this headspace most likely due to him not really being out yet red the original is still fronting. Blue "wakes up" so to speak confused and it seems almost like parts of the song are explaining to blue whats happening while still keeping him in the dark.

"I won't forgive you even though I'm right"

This line is repeated often and has been speculated to mean many things, mikoto breaking the 4th wall and talking to es, or him talking to red for getting him into this mess. But I think its actually Red addressing the person he killed. Think about it, this all started with the murder though I'm not sure what led up to it its likely that what happened with victim is why mikoto created blue in the first place.

I'll go in depth with some lyrics to try and translate what I think he's saying

"If I could change, can I do it?, I wonder from when I started to gave up"

He's wondering if he can become innocent again if he can guilt to stop eating him up, to feel something again, finally he has hope

If I could loose it, if I could choose, is this selfish?" Thats too much isn't it?"

If I could loose this guilt if I could choose to be innocent again, but isn't that selfish? This is crazy...

"Maybe its ok to keep living, split in half, make that heart beat"

The alter will give him reprieve if I split in half ill feel better. (Keep in mind I don't actually think he made an alter consciously but I do think the video is showing blue become more and more aware as reds guilt gets deeper.)

Then immediately as red starts to accept it blue Appears again confused and afraid.

Then the aggressive voice is now in the blue headspace red is now fully aware of blue and has come to terms with him being there

"Its like what's wrong isn't wrong, I'm already the fake one"

Sounds like red is convincing himself that this is ok, he can't be any worse than me he's already fake so now I can live without guilt of what I did.

The scene i the bath i think is the climax of the creation and reds acceptance of blue.

"I'm probably not to blame its probably nothing I'm probably just having a bad dream." "I just have to wake up"

Back to the referencing of a dream, Red is now allowing us to front and thinks of his life as a bad dream, (when blue arrives it'll all be over i just need to "wake up".)

Then Once again as he wakes up blue is seen even more confused and little desperate, I think blue knows there's something wrong he just can't figure out what.

And red is now in the hesdspace no longer fronting but is still guilty, "please let me out of here"  now he's fully invested in blue thinking that nothing is wrong "ill forgive you if you tell me that its a lie"

He wants us, es, and the victim to recognize that blue is innocent he will forgive the victim for creating him if you realize this.

Anyway I think this has some merit mostly because I think its a bad idea to keep pushing the idea that he's lying now. Haha let me know what you all think!

oh you think i'm over this? no i refuse. in fact i am STILL losing it over the fact that hanya and i managed to call a metropolis reference a YEAR in advance. i have a contentious relationship with the ateez stylists bc they have produced some very......questionable work (ketchup packet seonghwa), but then sometimes their affinity for ugly hits just the right spot like it did with guerrilla. not only is the styling an excellent blend of the best of ugly skater punk and revolutionary counter culture, but the mv is full of art references that perfectly balance the idea of starting a revolution in a dystopia where art and emotions have been made illegal.

i have some...complicated feelings about gasoline that i'll get into in an extended post eventually, but i went back and watched the mv again for the first time in a few months and despite my complicated feelings, kibum gets it. the visual cohesion of this album is so interesting and unusual and there's so many ideas that i do love that it would be a betrayal to not have it in my top three. from the album design to costuming to all the promo material that comes out, kibum has such a strong eye and excellent ability to work with his team and i respect it so much.

panorama - lee chanhyuk

one half of akmu, chanhyuk had his solo debut and he went whole hog on doing something very holistically conceptual, down to the types of performances that he did. the album tells the story of a coma patient, and i highly recommend it as a listening experience, but the performances of panorama are exactly what i mean when i want idols to be fucking around with form. there are not that many so i'm actually going to give a brief description of each of them, because if there are any links you click on from this post, it should be these ones:

mcountdown 221020: he does the entire performance standing still with his back to the camera, including the ending fairy

music core 221022: does the entire performance with his back to the audience, staring into a mirror that is being held up by his manager

k-909 - eyewitness account: this is of one of the bsides, does the entire performance holding a glass of wine that he then dumps down his front halfway through the song

k-909 - panorama: honestly the most 'normal' of the bunch, but you can see the consistency in how he's performing and what type of aesthetic markers are acting as a throughline

inkigayo 221023: has a barber shave his whole head on stage in one take while he's singing

i love aespa's techno nonsense. girls has all the flavour of a pre split tvxq mv but in a higher resolution. girls is purple line's daughter in a different colour scheme. i am not taking any criticism i'm right and you know it. the only thing it's missing is cunty yunho and honestly you could put him in there as he currently is and i wouldn't even bat an eye.

yea yea obligatory purple kiss entry, i love them and while memem wasn't a hit for me nerdy MORE than made up for it. once again they had almost a month long promo period and they managed to hit a variety of different looks from reimagined alt school uniforms to overly large sweaters. nerdy is probably tied for zombie from last year for me for best styling they've ever had. also rbw stylists are the only valid stylists for knowing how to dress someone who isn't a size zero.

sparkling - chungha

i love the idea of combining bird imagery and ocean imagery. it makes zero sense logistically if you give it an ounce of thought BUT the combination of feathers and sparkles and iridescent sheen with coral and lots of bright colours are such a lush visual experience that who even cares that birds don't swim. or fish don't fly. whatever look at the sparkles.

doom du doom - p1harmony

honestly i had a bit of struggle deciding on if i wanted to include this song or back down, because they both have really fun and creative mvs, but doom du doom won out in the end because i liked the stage styling more. the mv and its broke grimy street urchin olympic theme is so weird and charming and i love that they just have a guy hanging out in the background of all the shots just to be the guitar player. the choreo's fun af and actually uses their members' skills (see my choreo post), and it's a great touch that they had a couple of different flags made and they rotate them occasionally.

hair cut - xdinary heroes

like with the p1harmony entry, i had to decide which one of their two cbs from this half of the year i wanted to include, and it was TOUGH. i loved the styling for test me and admittedly it scratches my personal itch for punky shit, i like the ideas happening in hair cut more. plus the promo material from hair cut is just chefs kiss. so many jype groups went for an alice in wonderland theme in their cbs this year and personally i preferred xh's version because at least they threw in a lot of other references that offset it from being a direct one to one concept. the edward scissorhands themed concept photos were probably some of my favourite concept photos of all time. and they also produced a very cool and fun medley film for their album highlights that really loops all their thematic references together and has some great outfits.

smartphone - yena

alright girlies pack it up, we got the definitive quirky girl fusion y2k cb, i don't wanna see anymore! i'm not a super avid follower of yena, but i really liked smiley and i like that she's got a consistent visual flavour. smartphone is a really fun blend of 00s references and retro gaming that gives it a different flavour then a lot of the y2k revival stylings that we've been seeing over the last year. although i'm not gonna lie, this cb makes me feel extra haggy, especially when she takes 'selfies' with the flip phones (for the young'uns, they did not have front cameras), but it's still very cute and fun.

ok to start off: i have to make a category within a category, and that category is 'boy groups that vomited colours and fabrics all over the stage for three minutes', because no joke there where THREE separate cbs that had nearly identical stylings (there where actually more. i almost included bae173 here) and i honestly could not pick between any of them which i liked more. so here's the shortlist:

can't stop shining - tempest // the ogs, it was bad news that started this trend in the first place. i actually think the css styling is better than bad news, but i gotta acknowledge her trendsetting nature and also the competition was TOUGH in the back half of the year. highlights: the mv, mcountdown 220908, inkigayo 220904, show champion 220907

party rock - cravity // i was ready to be disproving bc nothing will ever be party rock anthem but the kids won me over. every single stage is just. what is happening. 10/10. highlights: music bank 221028, inkigayo 221009, inkigayo 221002, music bank 221007

drummin' - to1 // while i don't love that they booted two members (only for them to appear on boys planet), the rebrand for to1 has been really successful for me. drummin' is a fun dorky retro concept with some great choreography. they had the most themed styling of the three, which occasionally had some fun marching band inspired outfits. highlights: the show 220802, music bank 220805, mcountdown 220728

i did actually talk about this mv briefly already, it's one of my all time favourite mvs from this year and maybe even one of my faves from the last several years. it's so stunning and heartfelt and deserves like 50 million more views.

yea i know i'm the only kangta fan left on this webbed site and i don't care!!! this is a great mv with lot of great lighting effects and also a fantastic choice for the backup dancers costuming to include reflective taping. costume design that interplays with lighting is one of my specialties and i gotta shout it out the rare times it happens. also i'm pimp the og 90s it boy stage again, because i can and also it's a galaxy brained styling choice for him. and it has gorgeous set design.

gorgeous pink velvet suit, gorgeous mv that utilizes one of the most diffifult but most beautiful times to film: golden hour. he did do a stage in the pink velvet suit, but the mv is soooooooo pretty that it had to be on here.

for being produced with like $100 and however much it cost to rent that hawk, 458 is a fantastic bottle mv and definitely takes one of my top spots for having the most interesting combinations of imagery this year. there's a very obtuse connection to be made with the travels of dante through the circles of hell and motorsports and i wish they had played more into the idea of having driver/guide bc that could have been fun. also they should have called hajime kinoko and got hyunsuk strung up properly. it wouldn't have been that hard, he does commissions. just saying.

not my favourite of hyuna's showings, but she's still insane enough to make the list. love that she always greases up either herself or her dancers, or in this case, both. i'm gonna include some stages here bc the outfits are good, even though she didn't do that many: mcountdown 220721, inkigayo 220724.

didn't love all the stylings, but the mv is a blast and the graphic design and all the concept and promo materials are soooooo good. my fave outfits are the 'candy' encrusted ones from music bank 221202.

mood trailer: awakening - trendz // this imagery literally never appeared anywhere else but this mood trailer is extremely cool.

28 reasons album trailer - seulgi // i wasn't expecting the mv to follow up on how good this trailer was, especially since it was for the album and not the mv, but damn it's good. it's so good. much better than the more half baked fairytale ideas that ended up in the mv proper.

i scanning film - nine.i // do i know what the hell is going on here? absolutely not. but the vfx are fucking CRAZY and i love how it's the intro song for the album.

you might have noticed that the standout element sections have been on the slim side this year, and that's because i'm actually gonna do a bonus post this year! since i got extremely hamstrung by the tumblr post limit, i wasn't able to showcase some of the music show stages that stuck out to me for whatever reason, so i'm going to make a post that's just dedicated to them. it won't necessarily be just stylings i thought were good, it will include good performances or nice set design or anything else that i didn't cover somewhere else. i know a lot of people don't watch music shows for whatever reason and therefore i think they miss out on a lot, so this is gonna be a fun post to highlight some of the stuff that i think is worth watching.

I just went through your blog and was so happy to find out you think TVFN is about harry too. I really agreed with you saying taylor won't describe gellenswift as 'children running'. She tried to be like an adult around him. ATW MV had her trying to look old and mature. Compare it with harry. There is a silliness in hygtg and she even cheekily comments on him in SIO(despite it having nothing to do with harry) which is absent in Red. Plus I don't think tay would write a pop song about a guy who hates pop music to tell him she misses him. WANEGBT was shade and she made it pop because he hates it.Also taylor didn't even break any status quo with Jake the way she did with harry. Noone batted an eye at gellenswift age the way they frowned at haylor.

I know most people point out kitchen reference but Taylor likes kitchen and thinks its romantic. It even appears in cornelia street. It's not a stretch to think that Taylor danced in kitchen with harry too. (It would make fridge light even more interesting because for us it was atw reference but for haylor it was memory).Taylor felt strongly enough to write cbbh and this love about harry after knowing him for like 10 days so she probably missed him.

Also all the songs about jake had an intense feeling that would link back to red(title track). It was driving a Maserati not children running. And Taylor definitely seemed broken hearted after gellenswift unlike haylor 1.0. Jake also doesn't seem like a Polaroid type guy.(I swear I am not tinhat.I don't think atw or last time or anything else in red is abt him)

so i have to fully admit this is bias/my own issue because i know everyone assigns it completely to jg (along with run), and i guess the timing aligns, but it's just a case in my head where i don't like it lmao. it's the only song i feel that way about regarding the inspiration (i think we can safely put cbbh and miab in harry's category), it's just so sweetly nostalgic and has such an innocence to it, and none of the other songs regarding the intensity and passion of the situation with jg have that (not even run, which is maybe the closest). it's such a different emotional palette. there are divided opinions about ikywt/treacherous now (i firmly used to believe both were about jm, then red tv came out and i decided they were about jg all along, then would've could've should've made me ask questions again. and it could easily be that there isn't only one source and she was combining experiences, as she does). i can recognize that the logical answer with tvfn is taylor processing many, many tumultuous issues, and that song was her attempt to capture the relationship in a more pure way, but "i'd pick you up" gives her a kind of specific agency she lacks in moments with jg, and "children running" is curious to me when the crack in the foundation of everything was their age gap and the fact that he weaponized that against her, and that he was so caught in his own ideas of maturity/pretentiousness. she was trying so hard to be grown up, not a child, for him. i've seen it theorized that jg introduced her to polaroids and he just doesn't strike me as that type either (they had a bit of hipster cred at the time, but i still feel like...he's the type of guy who'd expound on the value of real film that has to be developed in a darkroom, you know? this is a man who bought her books he thought she should read and clothes he thought she should wear. polaroids feel too...cutesy? sentimental?...for him). and of course polaroids were the key selling point of the physical copies of 1989, so it just intrigues me.

I don't think tay would write a pop song about a guy who hates pop music to tell him she misses him. WANEGBT was shade and she made it pop because he hates it. this is also something i've pondered since last year. she wrote wanegbt intentionally because he belittled her music, it was designed to be as poppy as possible to rebuke him. ibytam is complete country for a similar reason, and addresses all those ways in which he held himself above her (even down to the city, and his regard for new york being so high above nashville). the phone call theme of red appears in tvfn, but there's an innocence in that specific to tvfn too (whispering on the phone together like kids). the night at the hotel makes me think of perfect. danced in the kitchen is obviously very atw-coded, but kitchens ARE a recurring romantic place, and that particular kitchen was in LA, whereas the atw and maroon dancing takes place in NYC. "every weekend, the same party" can connect to "your cool indie music concerts every week", but breaking the status quo is so...not what happened in their relationship. "back then we didn't know, we were built to fall apart" was before harry came back (this love) and before "we were built to fall apart, then fall back together" in ootw. there are parallels with if i could fly. the lighter silliness of the mood too, that's a good point. i don't know what to say! it fits more for that situation emotionally in my head in spite of the rationality i always try to use!

we will be definitely not tinhats, but merely the very first night appreciators, together.

On The Street

The collab between j-hope and J.Cole is a milestone on Hobi's path, nothing less. Here are some of my thoughts and personal observations on the MV. Let's walk on the street with him

First of all, some background trivia: J.Cole has been one of the artists influencing BTS, ever since their early days. The raw feelings you read in Born Singer lyrics were written to his Born Sinner's track. BTS only released the song last year in Proof.

Born Singer is only the visible tip of the iceberg. The group mentioned J. Cole in many interviews, and his name or his works are featured in several tracks of theirs like Hip Hop Phile, God Rap, Monster, etc. Go listen to Grown Simba and RM's Monster and check out their lyrics.

j-hope has shared his love and admiration for J.Cole throughout the years. He literally calls him "my muse", his source of inspiration. So a collab song with the artist who inspired him to become an artist too is no surprise. His wish came true.

Check the beginning of the video below, where he was probably already hinting at the upcoming collab, but we were too blind to see or understand (as always).

If you haven't watched the Jack In The Box documentary where j-hope finally meets J-Cole at the Lollapalooza backstage, then you probably missed how the fan inside Hobi jumped out at that particular moment.

Now, let's start the MV.

Travelling down from the sky to a small alley in NY, a reference to J.Cole's Simba MV (2007). The fans recognized it straightaway and the MV director, Lumpens himself, acknowledged this reference (with a story on IG).

We can see Hobi waving goodbye to a child while a couple passes by. Knowing the song release context, this scene means a lot: goodbye to his own childhood and/or youth, goodbye to those he is leaving for a while... Yes, this looks similar to Jin waving goodbye to the little girl.

That's when he starts to sing:

Every time I walk Every time I run Every time I move As always for us

I wondered who is "us" in these lyrics. From an interview Hobi gave: "I want this song to accompany all those who are off to a new start or on a long journey, like a friend."

The camera follows j-hope in this alley exactly the same way as in the first part of Simba's MV. There is one difference though: it's not the same street (go watch both MVs). j-hope starts his song in the second street where J.Cole ends Simba - a new start and an ongoing journey.

Hobi then focuses something. The camera turns around for us to look at a person placing yellow lilies among white and yellow flowers, with lit candles: a memorial.

Every time I look Every time I love Every time I hope As always, for us (On the street, I'm still)

It's all part of the street, just like the child and the couple walking at the beginning of the MV. "Street is a metaphor for life" Hobi says. The mix of flowers symbolize mourn and grief but also new beginnings, Hobi bringing a touch of hope and courage to help us through.

Cortlandt Alley is known for being a movies/series filming spot. Did you know that this is where they filmed the Gotham scene where Bruce Wayne's parents get k!lled? This the event that triggers Bruce to change to become Batman. Here's to endings and new beginnings!

And we keep moving forward, on the street, with Hobi: My two feet walking willingly anywhere J in the air For the path I'm on to become one of hope I give my all

Airplane lyrics explain that he went from the barren land burning him down, wanting to fly to eventually making it.

Even my walk was made of your love and your faith To repay you even from afar, just like a butterfly Now just walk lightly, whenever you want Go on hopefully wherever you want

This song is our butterfly. One that will give us strength and comfort, while he starts his next chapter.

I was asked about the huge graffiti in this alley and whether it has a special meaning for the MV. I don't think it does. It's been there for a couple of years now (check g00gle street). Lumpens is known for his poster hints but I can't see anything related here (maybe later).

In these streets imbued with someone's breath I leave my soul and my eternity Everywhere (I'll be)

Since the street is the metaphor of life, "these streets" are us, the listeners. The song and his lyrics, are what stays with us after he is gone. And yes, music is eternal.

On The Street lyrics remind me of Airplane, Piece of Peace, Ego and Future, where he shares his thoughts about his own path.

Interesting then that the next part of the MV is in a crossroad with Walker st, and he dances the chorus there. Literally a turning point in life.

On the street, I'm still

j-hope then enters Bowery station.

I love how nothing is random in this mv. This is the same station where they did the Tonight Show with BTS in 2020. At least, where they entered the subway. It was meant to be a subtle reminder of Bangtan, and it perfectly worked for me.

Yes, everyone thought of Danger MV because of the subway. And I bet Lumpens did as well since he directed that MV too! But I did not find any additional poster with a hidden message in the station this time.

By now, you have seen Hobi's jacket several times already. This is yet another classic hip hop reference. I found an interesting video on this brand's history and how the jacket was a "staple of hip hop culture" back in the 90s.

Now back to the mv. j-hope goes underground and puts on his hood while J.Cole on the rooftop appears as a reflection. That's a visual of Hobi's roots as a street dancer while J.Cole is at the top.

On the street, I'm still

And J.Cole delivers a masterpiece...

This is more than what a regular collab would require. He went out of his way to make an amazing contribution to the song, a proof of the respect he has for j-hope as an artist. And j-hope gave him space and time to sing on his song. Their thoughts complement one another.

When J.Cole first appears, we see him reflecting in the water... because this is basically what his lyrics are: a reflection on himself, his own career and what he should do next.

As he starts his verse, we can see a huge billboard in the background... with the Chicken Noodle Soup car! "It's my call" is written on it. This can be interpreted as either "it's my decision" or "I was drawn to this path I'm on". It probably means both.

These words can apply to both artists, but the fact that there is the CNS car in the add makes me think that it's more a j-hope thing. His calling came from the man in the frame, J. Cole. Whatever the path he chooses, it's his decision. Remember Ego? "Wherever my way"

While J.Cole raps at the top, literally, j-hope does his thang, dancing and vibin to the lyrics in the underground station. A beautiful metaphor to show where and how j-hope started his own path and who inspired him to become an artist.

And as the camera takes a wider angle on the rooftop, this is one of the rare moments when the clock is not blurry, just at the beginning of this verse and it's a few minutes past 3, like in 03/03 release date of On The Street. No, that's not a coincidence.

Now let's dive into J.Cole's lines. Going deep into his words would need a lifetime unpacking everything, so I'll stick to global thoughts. He starts by telling us that he's been through a lot. That "mighty survivor of hell" hits hard. And although in a hostile world, he kept going on. It reminds me of Bangtan's story. They too had a hard time in an environment that was never easy on them.

I had a hard time picking a favorite part in his lines. He delivers bar after bar, and combined with Lumpens creative visuals gives: "Selling train of thought, name an artist who could derail" while Hobi is dancing underground with subways passing by.

His friend's story is in opposition to his beliefs. J.Cole trusts to be guided on his path, but then he doubts, maybe he should "pick a different hobby" or change paths. That's exactly when Hobi stops dancing to look at the train going in the opposite direction. Crossroads again.

And I agree, "more quotables than what the quota allows" perfectly applies to his lines. I'm basically writing every single one of them since they are sooooo good.

Now to the Golden Corral explanation. When you don't know the name, it's not easy to understand. But once you know that it's a buffet restaurant, it all makes sense. As he walks on the street towards J.Cole, we get to hear the chorus again. This time he looks into the camera with a sweet smile. We don't get that kind of smile often from him... and that scene ends with "On the street, I'm still"

j-hope finally reaches the rooftop to meet J.Cole as the song ends. While J.Cole was singing on the rooftop all along, and rightfully so, j-hope started his journey on the street, dancing underground, rising to the top of the building to finally meet him. Another metaphor...

I really enjoyed walking on the street with Hobi. I love how the last song he shares for a while, is one where he conveys hope and fulfills his dream, working with the man who inspired him a long time ago to become an artist.

the archer theory about taylor swift coming out.

well, i've seen some people talking about this song and i had to listen to it again, since it's one of my favorite songs on lover and it also has to do with the theories and the meaning this song has to me.

i don't want to apply this to anyone so feel free to SKIP and NOT READ if you don't agree that this is a LGBTQIA+ song.

pure my own interpretation but you don't have to come to me if you don't like, she has a lot of songs and some of them are free for interpretations and they have different meanings to different people.

the first line it's:

“combat, i'm ready for combat / i say i don't want that but what if i do?”

this line to me has the deepest meaning and it comes along with the one in you are in love “and you will understand now why they lost their minds and fought the wars” and in ivy “this is the goddamn fight of my life and you started it” and both songs are before and after the archer which makes the archer in the middle.

the combat she's (maybe) referring to it's about coming out being (still) the american dream and the woman everyone looks up to when it comes to pop music, she says she don't want it but what if she does? what if she want to fight for it, fight for who she is and who she wants people to see that she really is? it's a combat because you can't come out if you're not ready to start a war against the world.

“cause cruelty wins in the movies / i've got a hundred thrown-out speeches i almost said to you”

cruelty here, to me, it's about how cruel it is to not have the story of your life in the big screen, like, we grow up seeing the bad stories about LGBTQIA+ couples and it's always about how they didn't end up together or how bad they are treated. the “speeches i almost said to you" looks like something she was ready to say to us, her fans, and she didn't had the chance or she wasn't really ready.

when i first saw the miss americana documentary, i highlighted that part where she is trying to convince her father and the rest of the team that it was a good idea/good move to speak up about the politics and the situation of the trump thing. and it was very hard for me to watch because it was clearly a bunch of old men that grew up and still have in mind their conservatory concepts that goes against what taylor wanted to tell her whole life, they were just trying to silence her and she decided to do it anyway because she is a grown woman and she never spoke up about those things before the reputation era.

the easy they come and easy they go line goes for the fans, they are always in and out and sometimes some of them never want to come back and stay because in the first bad thing that happens to her it pulls them away. she jumps from the train and ride off alone, the train maybe is about her life that never stops and she takes a break from it, the media, the relationships, the image she has in front of the whole world and she ride alone because there's no one in the world that could understand her more than herself. she never grow up when it comes to being more mature when it comes to some things and having the capacity to speak her truth, she's asking us to let her hold on to us when things go harder and when everyone else has left her.

i fucking love this line so much because when you are a LGBTQIA+ kid growing up, you always has to fight against being the bad person and the good person, you grow up seeing in the news that you will die young and that there's people out there that will try to tell you that loving someone of the same sex is the wrong thing to do. being the archer and also the prey is like haunting yourself until you realize who you really are, you have that idea internalized in you, the homophobic jokes you grew up listening and you're also the target and it's like both sides of a coin. who could ever leave her for being a (bi, pan, lesbian) woman? who could ever stay if she's a (bi pan, lesbian) woman? it's like “who could stay in the darkest of the darkest times here with me because it looks like i am lost and i don't know where to go”

“dark side, i search for your dark side / but what if i'm alright, right, right, right here?”

the dark side is not the bad side like people point out, the dark side of someone is like when the moon is half shown and half hidden, and you can only see the part that's out for the light. here the dark side of taylor is the one she haven't showed to us, and to me this line is not about a potential lover but about herself. and this song feels like a mirror, so to me, she's talking to herself and trying to find her dark side in front of her own image. the sequence “alright, right” it's like the dark side saying “i am here and it's good”.

“and i cut off my nose just to spite my face / then i hate my reflection for years and years”

this fucking line is the deepest for me, because it's like, she cut a part of herself to looks like someone who she wasn't made to be, it reminds me of having to hide your true side in despite of being hurt or left aside. how many LGBTQIA+ kids and teenagers has to hide from their parents? we change our way to see the world, we lie to everyone about our love interestings, we hide in the closet and we don't face ourselves because this is not who we are and then we spent the rest of our life hating our reflection because we don't recognize this person but everybody loves this version we created, it's easy, it's very easy to love a straight person but it's the hardest thing to let a queer kid feel loved. it's very easy to not tell a straight person how to be but it's the hardest thing teach a queer kid how to love themselves.

“i wake in the night, i pace like a ghost / the room is on fire, invisible smoke / and all of my heroes die all alone / help me hold on to you”

she's s ghost to the people who live with her so she's not seen, everything is burning and there's an invisible smoke that's where she fades in, and all of her heroes, probably the queer ones that are dying everyday all alone and the ones who died were left alone in their final days. again she's asking if she can count on us to keep going if things go hard.

“i see right through me / they see right through me / can you see right through me?”

seeing through someone means that you see their true version, like if you're looking at their soul and they're so open that you can read anything. it's understanding someone and knowing someone inside and out. just like the lover mv where she's inside the fish tank, it's a metaphor for a thing that can be seen by everyone just like a mirror. and the delicate mv where she's not seen until she enters the bar and sees a person. she can see through herself and people are seeing through her but not in the way she wants to be seen and then she asks (for the fans?) if we can see right through her. could we fight the wars with her? be the shoulder for her to lean on? stay even when she's about to face the fight the biggest war of her life?

“all the king's horses, all the king's men / couldn't put me together again / cause all of my enemies started out friends”

king's horses and king's men also align with the chorus and the universe of being the prey in a world of men. also it can also be the world of a society that lives inside a bubble and cannot accept diversity. not even the men, (her father, team, men she dated?) could put her together again after all that she have been through, and it matches with the “i cut off my nose just to spite my face”. all of her enemies once were friends which implies that she can't trust anyone and as the song goes as (in my vision) a LGBTQIA+ letter to her fans, she's saying that there's no one that could handle this secret and she already tried to tell them but it ended wrong.

that's it. to me this song has a deep meaning and i couldn't put everything i wanted to in this post. also i just want taylor to know that there's a lot of sapphic connotations in her songs and i will always stay.

Her fiance at the beginning begins to explain how he can’t believe he found his missing piece. That person that has “a one of a kind beauty with a glow that makes the moon look like a sad chipped tooth”

Followed afterwards  her fiance in this scene is going to give Camila  a necklace because they’re apparently (based on context clues) celebrating their recent “engagement.” 

This is where the symbolism begins.  As he cheekily describes the type of person he found himself with Camila takes a huge gulp of wine.  A sign that shows she’s uncomfortable with what he’s saying or feeling guilty about something.

The bus boy “accidentally” spills a drink onto Camila’s fiance and gets his expensive suit dirty. The fiance begins to yell at the bus boy. Camila becomes fascinated putting all her attention onto the bus boy.

A.

She falls in love with the bus boy at first sight and  then he leaves a note on the table for Camila.

Since the “Liar” cover art  has to do with cupid. The heart that forms after the buss boy cleans the drink he spilled on the table represents “falling in love at first sight.” In other words the drink that the bus boy spilled was cupid’s arrow. 

 B.

The buss boy already knew Camila. He spilled the drink on purpose because he knew that she was  in love with  him and not Reese. He knew she was making a mistake. Therefore was trying to prevent her from marrying a guy she’s not interested in.

In this situation Camila is shocked and nervous because of her fiance’s reaction  but she was smiling at the buss boy while he was yelling. That meant that  she liked what he did for her.   

“Oh no, there you go, you're making me a liar I kinda like it though.”

After meeting with the buss boy she can’t say that she “loves”  the necklace her fiance gave her. Why? because that would be lying. She’s chocking because her  body is literally preventing her from spilling out lies, and wants to speak out the truth. 

“Oh no, there you go, you're making me a liar Got me begging you for more.”

Then she wakes up in her mansion next to her fiance to find the television turned on.

Parodying what ALL tabloids do every time celebrities are rumored to be together.  In a sense think of her fiance as a “PR” partnership.  Her character is in love with someone else and she’s not with Reese Witherspoon because she loves him.  She looks at the note that the buss boy left behind because she can’t stop thinking about them. The other thing that’s important to pay attention to is the fact that she’s “living” inside a mansion.

 So, she wakes up and she remembers that the buss boy gave her a note at the table while he spilled the drink. At this point I’m going to assume that the buss boy had already known Camila before she got with Reese because she sneaks out of the room as if she was keeping a secret away from him.

We further on can see her actually running away from Reese in circles around the house, looking at the note, but pushing it away. Proving that she is keeping a secret from him. The secret being her relationship with the buss boy that she’s having behind his back in secrecy. This next scene is extremely important, and brings me back to why I said her living in a mansion is something you should pay attention to.

Camila is caught cleaning the mansion, she lives in, herself with her normal regular comfortable sleeping gown instead of the cleaning staff. If this was a normal everyday situation there wouldn’t have been a reason for her to be shocked if he caught her cleaning.  However at this point I gathered one of two things.

A.

Wealth, Money and Fame.

Reese Witherspoon symbolizes wealth, money and fame itself. He bought her all those materialistic items. He has all these maids, cooking staff, and butlers. He has this big ass mansion and he expects her to dress the part and act accordingly so to her new rich lifestyle. That’s why he bought her what to wear and the necklace at the beginning of the music video. Going back to the reporters in the music video. At the beginning when he was describing her I felt like in itself was mimicking or mocking fake love and affection because what he said was cheesy and she wasn’t interested in it.   (Kind of like her posts about Shawn, and Matthew.)

B. 

She doesn’t care about money, wealth, or fame.

That fact that in this scene she just smiles and looks at him and feels comfortable wearing what she’s got on while she’s cleaning shows that she just wants to be herself. She doesn’t want to wear what he buys her to show off. She just wants to be herself.  Therefore in that moment at the start of the MV when he asked her what she thought.. she was making a decision between Real Love or Wealth, Money, and Fame.

Then we get a flashback to where we started except this time she comes to a realization. She tries to change the outcome but  it’s the same. The heart on the table still appears and the buss boy is still there. “I said I won’t get too close but I can’t stop it.” She starts to crack and let’s out a bit of the truth and as she does she feels relief. Things start to get better. The truth starts to spread, and people bring out their real colors.

Reese gets confused about her rejection, but  Buss Boy has hearts in his eyes meaning that he appreciates her courage to be honest.

BUT then she gets crushed by an elephant. She didn’t say the full honest truth and this is an idiom for “there’s still an elephant in the room.” 

She once again wakes up except this time it’s not just with a note. She wakes up with both men in her bed. The buss boy she’s actually in love with never leaves her mind and wakes up with her while Reese ( her wealth, money and fame) lays next to her fast asleep. The more people talk about them the more anxiety Camila seems to have every time she sees the news reports.

She gets terrified of the fact that Reese could wake up and see him being with her in the same bed and starts running away from her thoughts and problems again. With the note in her hand.  This could very well be interpreted in many ways.

Considering that Reese represents fame she’s scared that her real relationship that’s a secret will be discovered so she runs away from it but she can’t stop thinking about them. That’s why she’s continuously running around in circles in Reese’s mansion. 

“But what if he kissed and what if I like it?”

Changes the lyrics to “she” in this part and the meaning changes, but in the music video it stays the same because the Buss Boy is her secret relationship.  I know a lot of people before me already pointed out that Flamingos = Gay... so I’m going to point you in a different direction. She is among a flock of  Flamingos, and they are believed to be a powerful spirit animal.

  Reference: “Spiritually, if this spirit animal comes up– you need to listen to your heart and follow what it says in all that you do. This is because it will assist you in choosing the true path of life. In case, you consider this bird to be your spirit animal, then you should let out your emotions. Again, she’s looking at the note, trying to follow her heart and making a choice between Real Love and Wealth. (Which follows the same pattern in Shameless, and another song.)

He comes out showing off his butlers and staff and again the stupid thing he bought her to wear. Then we go once again back to the start of mv where she’s thinking about things and coming into realizations.  She spews out even more truth, but doesn’t get hit by the elephant again. However she does get hit by people riding their bikes.

It seems like no matter how hard she tries or wants to say the truth she can’t. That’s why she’s getting attacked by elephants and drones, and people because when she does they stop her from continuing to live by the truth. The more she resists saying the truth though  the more the truth haunts her.

It’s interesting to me that this scene is included with the whole, “trouble in paradise.” The whole world is watching her fake relationship crumble because she doesn’t want to be in it anymore and she just wants to choose who she really loves.  I think that this song is ultimately aimed at Roger or her team who make her seem like she’s a “Liar.”

We have her here once again laying next to Reese (wealth), but she’s surrounded by thoughts of the person she really loves so she’s trying to burn the love she has for the other person she shouldn’t love. 

While in that process she actually ends up burning herself, and running away from the situation.  The “Truth Police” actually end up catching her and want to know why she did what she did.  The truth police mention in my opinion could be someone that intervenes with her life. Someone close to her.

Anyways, Wealth and Fame starts investigating  and questioning her. She starts getting really nervous that they’re going to find out the truth as to why she went insane and burned down the mansion. Even though they probably already know as she looks over at the Buss Boy who is pretending to read the note he obviously didn’t give to her himself.

She won’t tell them  the truth so she starts screaming at the Buss Boy, and blames him for giving her the feelings that she’s feeling, but the Buss Boy stands his ground and acts as if saying, “is that so?” 

Reese is surprised and presumably seems as if he’s asking what’s going on. The Buss Boy and Camila are arguing back and forth, but they start dancing and get really close.

At that point the truth was discovered and Reese was devastated and angry. The lie detector showed that she really loves the Buss Boy, “her real love” and not Reese. The person she was pretending to be in a relationship with. The person that bought her fame and wealthy things.

In the end she wakes up in her normal house, with her normal clothes, and inside her normal bed. Without pretending to be someone else or in love with somebody that she’s not in love with. She loves Disney, and the bird to me says that’s her real fairy tale ending.

In the end she chose her real love over everything and will always choose love over everything.  But also remember how I kept saying she can’t stop thinking about the person she really loves?  That’s what the note is about. She only thinks about the person she actually is in love with. Not the person she shows she’s with.

The song titles are pretty strong and straightforward I wanna know moreeeee, which one is the TT. Idk bestie many people like the squares?! The Speak Now Tour Begins (February 2011 - May 2011)

Now while the Speak Now tour technically doesn’t start until February, it kicks off in January on the Allure of Seas Cruise Ship, where Taylor, Liz, and Caitlin perform Better Than Revenge for the first time:

As you can see, there’s not much choreography, making me think that the choreography there ends up being is partially created by these three, and making it far more interesting due to the amount of TayLiz interactions in the final product.

1 February 2011  - Taylor releases the music video for Back to December. The secret message for Back to December was TAY, which is one of Liz’s favorite nicknames for Taylor. 

In the music video, Taylor sits alone, fully clothed, in a bathtub, reminiscing on past times. Could this perhaps be a reference to this picture from the Gay Australia Trip? (Maybe... or maybe it’s just a reach).

In the music video, Taylor also puts a note she’s been writing throughout the MV into the pocket of her ex’s jacket. This is really intriguing to me, since Sad Beautiful Tragic has a lyric that goes “long handwritten note, deep in your pocket.” Is Taylor perhaps trying to signal that these songs are related and/or about the same muse?

During the Speak Now tour, Taylor mashes up Back to December with Apologize and You’re Not Sorry. Together, these songs tell the story of Taylor going to her ex to apologize, and them telling her it’s too late and they’ve moved on. Now, maybe it’s just me, but this sounds an awful lot like where TayLiz are in their relationship right now:

February 2011 - Emily gets engaged. Taylor goes to Liz Rose for help with All Too Well and the first draft of the All Too Well lyrics are written in the Lover diaries. Many people have theorized this means All Too Well is about Emily. But, once again, I think Liz makes more sense based on the timing of the writing and my very strong belief Taylor wouldn’t have written a song this romantic about Emily in a post-Dear John world.

6 February 2011 -  Liz tweets the lyrics to Ragged Company by Grace Potter and The Nocturnals. If you remember, Liz went to see Grace Potter with Jason the summer before:

This is a really interesting choice given Liz’s recent recommendation of Thinking of You. It almost reads as the opposite perspective of that song. Let’s look at the lyrics:

Can you lie next to her and give her your heart? Your heart, as well as your body? And can you lie next to her and confess your love? Your love, as well as your folly? But tell me now, where was my fault In loving you with my whole heart? You desired my attention but denied my affections

To me, this totally sums up the story of TayLiz up to this point. The flirting, the attention, things never really seeming serious between them until Liz got a boyfriend, and then after that still toying with the idea of being with each other. But maybe Taylor just liked the song. Or was trying to get Dianna Agron’s attention by wearing the same dress she wore on Glee and singing a song by a band she likes. Who knows?

Now, with all of this TayLiz going on, you would think Liz had quietly broken up with Jason. But nope, he’s still around. 

CONCLUSION:  This is going to be a problem, since things are staring to heat up in TayLiz land (especially during Better Than Revenge). If the songs they’re into are any indication, Taylor and Liz both want to get back together. The only thing standing in the way is Jason... And he won’t be around for very much longer.

Lie to Me Theory: The Timeline

“Lie to Me” circumstances, lyrics, and music video tell a heartbreaking story. But to look into what that story is would be another kind of heartbreak. It is not the narrative being pushed.  You were supposed to be distracted by the engagement so you would not see all of this.

LTM’s MV drop coincided with another event that had been accomplished seven days before.

We’ll go back in time to 11 June 2018

11 June 2018 from 0:00-1:55

We get the LTM interpretation from Cocktail chats on 11 June 2018 from the band before anything has occurred. It’s explained that LTM is about being in a romantic situation where someone is in it for reasons that you are not. It’s inspired by heartbreak and wanting to move on. Before Luke can relate it back to his personal life, he is cut off. It is as though they want you to know there is a connection here but that is all the hint that we are given.

Maybe he was drunk and lost track of what he was saying. He could have said something too honest. What he had to say didn’t represent what they really wanted for the band’s image. Or it could have been irrelevant. So all the information is that it’s related to his personal life and Luke says he used to listen to this song 400 times a day.

Michael Clifford and Crystal Leigh are engaged as of January 11, 2019. The engagement occurs in Bali. It is apparently entirely paid and sponsored by guess #DestinationGUESS, who uses the engagement as a means for promoting themselves. 

There’s a party of people there for the engagement. Missing however are the three people who will become like brothers to their new sister. They say it’s weird that the couple are professionally photographed. Or that Michael would be with someone as discriminatory and mean as Crystal. Or Crystal would be with someone who was chubby at a point like Michael. 

These are not the only nuggets surrounding the event. It was apparently already a well-coordinated trip since December 2018, when Michael’s girlfriend first dropped a hint on Instagram. Many articles are published about the event, treating Michael like an A-list celebrity. Some people say that’s weird. I say news was slow that week. But we’ll be moving on.

Re-cap: Michael, his new fiancee, or the boys have said anything about the engagement. Now on the fifth day following, Ashton goes quirky.  What would you do if your best friend got engaged?

This doesn’t seem right. 

He’s saying he wrote a song about love in Russian. But the words are actually in Spanish. So it’s a fake Russian love song because it’s really a Spanish love song. The Russian love song is a joke, a ruse.

Ashton has never been quiet in reference to how he feels about PR stunts. He’s spoken about them with disdain. Of course, this Tweet could be up for interpretation, but that’s what I think. Ashton is very good at throwing shade.

30 minutes after Ashton’s tweet, Michael announces the engagement. Ashton deletes his tweet not long after. 

Up to then, they had been quiet about the engagement. I think that’s okay. 

And then the final frosting comes with LTM’s MV premiere. So, Michael gets engaged and the band (which includes Michael) collectively went “Alright, let’s publish a music video about heartbreak and being manipulated with lies.” Probably I wouldn’t have agreed the week of my engagement was the right time to drop a video called “Lie to Me��. That’s a weird way to congratulate their best friend about to seal the deal forever. If any of my friends did that to me I’d be royally confused. They. do not seem pleased for him. I don’t believe 5sos is selfish enough to want M all to themselves. You can be if you think they’re that clingy. But then 5sos would be the toxic ones. I believe they love each other too much to not want the best for Michael.

Michael’s fiancee maintains her silence. 

We get another tweet from Ashton before the release of LTM MV. 

We can appreciate that he seemingly more concerned with people and truth than he is with money and fame. We can appreciate too that being in a toxic situation might mean a person has no self-esteem and does not understand their self-worth. So they stay in bad situations because they think that’s what’s best for them. 

I thought this line stood out most prominently:

“All you can do is watch.”

There are ways to gently intervene with a toxic, I-have-no-value-without-her type situations. If the victim is your friend, telling them that they’re good and you love them, and you will always love/support them no matter what. By helping them clean their houses, or taking them temporarily away on short “breaks” like on walks, for coffee, or casual day activities away from their partner (assuming this person isn’t forcing them to isolate from their peers) that help them see there are other options. They still might not see the possibilities, they still might continue to pursue their abuser, but more often than not, when people see there are other choices than being punished constantly, they’ll opt for the one that makes them feel most free and happy. Ashton strikes me as the kind of person who is deeply empathetic, and kind. He would do things like this to bolster his friend’s self-esteem in this kind of situation. It doesn’t make sense that he only watches. 

He says he doesn’t have a choice but to watch. He separates himself from the statement by putting it in second person. Instead of saying “All I can do is watch” he says “All you can do is watch.” This is a common psychological phenomenon when someone wants to distance themselves from something uncomfortable. It is often easier for people to talk about others than it is for them to talk about themselves. 

So why would Ashton have no choice?  He might have no choice but to witness an abusive situation if they signed away their freedoms.

The person inside the relationship might want to leave. He is not truly interested in being abused because he already has self-worth and know he deserves better. He’s a party man actually and loves being free, he thought that was the “highest of highs.” However, this person does not have any choice but to endure it “with no attempt to escape” because he does not have the option to. Legally they all are bound to comply.  

So in one 7-day period we have this timeline:

7 Days Ago: 11 January 2019, Mystal engagement

5 days ago: 16 January 2019, Ashton Shade daddy tweet and MC’s personal engagement announcement (removal of Irwin’s tweet)

0 Days Ago: 18 January 2019, Ashton’s LTM tweet and LTM video premiere

On its own, this is enough to say Mystal is a PR relationship. She is very pretty, they had a fairy tail relationship and engagement, a lot of their photos and videos together are really hot and perfect. But you don’t go “Aw, look how cute we are” and then publish a music video about Heartbreak and deceit and lacking self-worth. 

LTM lyrically and the Music video give us a lens into an entirely new side of the story. Heartbreaking. A wild side, a crazy side, an unbelievable story.
