50 milo murphy's law facts
5 not so fun and 45 fun!
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/ac1ae216f7d2a9a159a231be46aaa1be/934e08050bb8ae1e-6a/s540x810/60755dce97d3bc52f2f2809e280064e1d5240a96.webp)
Not so fun to start!
The only Milo Murphy's Law official merchandise is a notebook released in Japan for the MML X PNF crossover.
Disney actually apologized to Dan (and I assume Swampy) for the treatment of Milo Murphy's Law. Dan has expressed frustration at the MMLs treatment before, citing the Hiatus between s1 and s2 and the fact it did not air on the main Disney Channel.
Doof appears in more episodes than Cavendish and Dakota in s2 (this is the real reason we needed a s3). Also, while PNF/Doof stuff was planned from the start, Disney did push for more PNF.
When season 2 was airing, new episodes would randomly be released in other countries.
Milo was cut from CATU due to a feeling from Disney that audiences would not recognize his cameo.
ok LAME ones out of the way
On the first drawing of Milo there are three names beside it: Milo, Mikey, and...Monty. As you probably know the Mikey one got pretty far and is the name used in the pitch bible (and was referenced with "I am Mikey!".) The reason Mikey was changed to Milo was not a creative choice, but because there was a popular YouTuber named "Mikey Murphy."
Speaking of, Milo was also just going to be another character apart of a different pitch, but Dan kept thinking he should go into his own show. He went to Swampy and asked him what he thought of Milo (at the time Mikey) and the idea of a show about Murphys Law. it took them about an hour to come up with the concept pitch.
You can find several of MML song dubbings on YouTube and other platforms. Most notably the Japanese version (マイロ・マーフィーの法則) highly worth checking out. Fun fact in a fun fact, Doof and Dakota also share the same voice actor in this dubbing.
In re-airings of some of the first MML episodes, second versions were made that included Cavendish and Dakota in the background.
Yes, Melissa was originally going to feel the lasting effects of the pistachion uprising by remaining looking like one instead of Bradley having his arm turned into a vine. This would have been a source of conflict for her in season 2, but in the end they felt it was too much of a change. As far as Bradley's plant arm it was originally only going to come out sometimes before it was changed to being a constant thing. He does have feeling in this arm.
The Island of Lost Dakota's was going to include a scene with merman Dakota's ("merkotas"). There was also going to be "mutation" Dakotas, such as ones with multiple heads.
There exists a live action version of the Milo Murphy's Law theme song. well, sorta, watch it
Before Milo came out Dwampy made the song "we're gonna do it again."
MML was originally set to debut in early 2017.
Weird Al did not originally come to mind for Milo. One of the idea voices they had was Noah Z Jones (Fish Hooks). They auditioned hundreds of people for Milo, but many had issues such as sounding too nervous in their lines. It wasn't until Alex Hirsch (Gravity Falls) posted a photo with Weird Al that Dwampy realized he'd be perfect for the role.
Sara is based on a friend of Dwampy.
In tune with the popular headcanon/fan theory, it's possible they did actually consider making Cavendish a descendant of Milo. When Cavendish was going to agree he also liked Milo, he was going to say he was his descendant. *this may have also just been a joke line
Milo and Cavendish are meant to mirror eachother in the fact Milo deals with Murphy's Law and Cavendish is the "author of his own misery" in regards to things going wrong.
Another thing they considered was the possibility of Dakota and Cavendish being in a romantic relationship, but they ultimately decided they wanted them to have them represent a strong male friendship.
The Milo Murphys Law crew did keep up a fanart and concept art wall. Here, here, and here are some photos.
There was a baby Cavenpus cut from final productions.
There are no official ages for Dakota and Cavendish. Dan has said he believes Cavendish to be older, while Joshua Pruett has said he believes Dakota to be the older one and by a bit of a margin.
Pistachios came to be a thing in the show because a son of some of Dan's neighbors had been allergic to specifically pistachios. They needed an idea for the larger plot and somehow those two came together. (Swampy also notes it's a funny word).
Several of the scripts for MML storyboarders included just the words, "and Murphy's Law happened."
Dan has made at least one Vinnie Dakota dedicated Tiktok similar to his Doof ones.
The Doof and Dakota lines were recorded together, back and forth.
Melissa was going to have a hamster nemesis named Ham. In the Pitch Bible the name wasn't included, but it's explained it was a pet class hamster that would always escape and end up on her things.
The secret handshake Milo and Zack do in scream-a-tourium was intended to be longer.
The studio executive for MML originally thought The Island of Lost Dakota's was a joke idea until he read the script.
There was a MML kids menu at Disneyland circa 2016.
Dakota and Cavendish were originally not in the shows ideas, nor was any B-plot, but being used to it in PNF the writers room felt they "needed something to cut away to"
Joshua Pruett pitched for the MML x PNF crossover for where when Milo opened his backpack to pull out the thing he needed to save the world it'd be...Phineas and Ferb.
Dakota is the reason parking tickets exist, as he can be a bit careless about leaving time vehicles all over the place. Dakota is proud of this.
Melissa's likeness and name is based on Dan's daughter Meli, as to sorta "balance out" Isabella also being based on his other daughter.
They considered a twist where Bob Block would be an alien wearing a face mask.
"Cavendish Farms" is an episode that never came to be pitched by Pruett where in order to track Cavendish Dakota would try to duplicate Cavendish, though none of them would quite be Cavendish. One of the Cavendishs would have a heart to heart with Dakota, while Doof would ultimately call out Dakota for what he's doing and tell Dakota "you already know what he would do." dwampy rejected this idea because this was a bad idea, to which pruett felt that is exactly why Dakota would have tried it. if renewed, pruett would have tried to convince them more on it.
Chop Away at My Heart was originally called "Jump Jump Jump" and was made for another project by one of Dan's friends. After Dan have asked to transform it into something else for Milo, Joshua Pruett suggested a "Lumberjack themed boyband" in the script.
unfortunate split for character block limit
Dakotas voice was inspired by Elvis Costello. It's also the harder voice for Dan in comparison to Doof.
Mark Hamill originally auditioned to play a teacher on the show, but Dwampy liked his audition so much they decided he'd better fit Mr. Block.
In the MML pitch bible it is stated, "Mikey has a destiny to fulfill, something vital to the future of the planet." The goal of Cavendish and Dakota would be to make sure he stays on the right path.
There IS a full version of We're Going to the Zoo, which was played by Dan in this interview at 3:00:30. Several MML songs have had full versions leaked, implying this is probably the case for some other songs too.
Like several other characters, Sara in the MML pitch bible was different from her show counterpart, being "a hipster like Thora Butch in Ghost World."
The song "A World Without Milo" is based on the song "Happy Together" by "The Turtles"
Almost every character, including creatures or minor one-offs had a name in the script. An example is "Pia," the name of the poodle Diogee falls in love with.
In regards to when Dakota talks about cutting through the Mesozoic in First Impressions and the fact it is illogical, Dan says this is likely just Dakota being Dakota (aka, it was a mistake), and not every such line should be taken serious.
In a deleted "Snow Way Out" line it was confirmed that the raccoon in Going the Extra Milo and Fungus Among Us is recurring raccoon.
Brick and Savannah were going to have a role in the crossover.
Story ideas from the MML pitch bible that never came to include a beach episode, a Friday the 13 episode, and an episode where Cavendish and Dakota try convincing Milo to take a self defense class leading to conflict with a hidden ninja gang.
For unspecified characters (probably multiple different sets) Pruett wrote in hugs that were cut by (mostly) Dan. In response, he says he "put 4 in so at least 1 stays."
S3 would have likely included: A third Block (yes, still voiced by Mark Hamill and a Block "family meeting"), Milo creating the universe, Dakota and Cavendish getting the promotion they wanted but being unsatisfied, Elliot cleverly being connected to the overarching plot, AU exploration (akin to pnf) including an episode where Dr Zone is real, and a conclusion to the Prof Time arc. The overarching plot would have been the "biggest yet."
credits to: danvillecheese for suggestions + encouragement, cheetochild989 for facts the fact about going to the zoo and a world without milo, the 2nd dimension on YouTube, my hamsterward friends, and of course all the talented people who worked on MML :3

The entire house smelled of cinnamon, apples, and buttery pie crust. You sliced up another apple, taking care to carve out its core, before tossing it in the sugar syrup and popping the chopped pieces of fruit into the crust to bake in the oven. As soon as you bumped the door shut with your hip, the front door creaked open, followed by a familiar jangling of keys.
You glanced up with a warm smile, glad that your husband was finally home—except it was quick to melt away when you took in his disheveled appearance. There was blood all over him, dribbling down his hairline, splattered over his neck, staining his once-pristine clothes.
Despite his haggard state, he sent you a tired beam, his mustache twitching with the smile.
“‘Ello, love,” he greeted, making his way to you behind the kitchen counter. “Close your mouth, darlin’, you’ll catch flies.” With a cheeky smirk, he slotted a finger beneath your chin, effectively snapping your lips shut. He mildly winced when he noticed he accidentally left a faint print of sticky blood on your jaw, but wisely decided not to tell you.
You fixed him with an unimpressed stare. “Jesus, Tan. Is that your blood?”
“Not sure, honestly. It’s coming from all over—some of it’s bound to be mine. Don’t worry about me, love. I’m fuckin’ peachy. Speaking of, it smells really good in here. You bakin’ something for me, darling? I’m flattered,” he hummed, leaning forward to kiss you.
Before he could, you ducked away from him, pushing his face to the side with a wrinkled nose. “Ugh, go shower first, you’re getting blood everywhere! To be honest, I would’ve felt better knowing it was yours.”
“Ouch,” he murmured, though his grin still lingered by the corner of his mouth. “You wound me, sweetheart.”
Relenting, you leaned forward and pressed a chaste kiss to his unsuspecting lips. “There. You happy?”
“Very. Thanks, love.” He sent you a playful wink before slinking off to the bathroom, whistling a peppy tune under his breath on the way. You rolled your eyes and smiled to yourself, before turning to clean up the mess of flour and sugar and apple cores you’d made on the kitchen counter.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/a7df8d3629df1463b4252a1a88ebc6e2/f5c8b5247a8249e8-f6/s540x810/305d37f0e649000278bfbb72b7114717b0b5245f.jpg)
When your husband finally slunk out of the bathroom, a thick white towel hanging low around his waist and another ruffling at his damp curls, he made his way back into the kitchen.
“Put on some clothes, Tan,” you scoffed when he pressed against you from behind, sprinkling a bit of cinnamon sugar on the apple pie you had just taken out of the oven.
“Hm, you don’t like me like this?” he queried, verging on a whine since you weren’t paying him the least bit of attention. “Naked and at your disposal?”
Amused, you finally turned around in his arms, trapped between him and the counter. The blue of his eyes were hooded and lustful, teeth sinking into his bottom lip. You, however, smiled sweetly at him. “You’re not naked.”
“Well, that can easily be remedied—”
Before he could reach down to undo the towel around his waist, you stopped him with your hands gripping both his wrists, quirking your brows. “As much as I’d love to, I have to call in for a job soon. I’m running late already. I was baking the pie for you in case you got back while I was gone.”
“Another job?” asked Tangerine, clearly upset at the turn of events. “Can’t you call off? I’m sure they can send another bloody assassin to do their dirty work.”
You pressed a quick kiss to his cheek, before gently pushing him away so you could head off to your shared bedroom and get changed. To none of your surprise, your husband trailed along behind you like a sullen puppy. “It’s a lot of money, baby. Don’t think I could afford to keep skipping jobs just to laze around with you.”
With a disappointed grumble, Tangerine wrapped his arms around you from behind again, squeezing tightly and kissing down your neck. “How long will this one take?”
“I’ll be back tonight,” you reassured him. “Tomorrow at the very latest.”
“Alright,” he acquiesced, though not without a loud sigh. He sat down on the bed, watching as you shirked off your flour-covered shirt in favor of a dark button-up. “You remember how we first met?”
Of course you did. You remembered it as if it was yesterday. You crossed your arms, stepping in between his legs by the edge of the bed. Both of his hands went to your waist, fingers curling over your back and absentmindedly tracing loose shapes on your sides.
Looking up at you, he spoke between pressing soft kisses along your abdomen, over the black shirt you had donned, “I was on a mission with Lemon in Madrid… and we were in a tight situation. Bullets flying everywhere, my leg fucked up, and my gun jammed. Then, whaddya know, the most beautiful fuckin’ person I’ve ever laid my eyes upon comes flying through one o’ the windows. Took out three people with one knife, and took out another four with a bloody crossbow. You looked at me, covered in blood, and asked if I was alright. I told you that you were fucking gorgeous—and then you fell in love with me, right on the spot, and the rest is history.”
You burst out into a fit of laughter. “Hm, that’s not how I remember it. Need I remind you that I shoved you to the side because you kept getting in my way, asking if I’d like to have dinner with you? Gods, Tan, you were a pain in my ass. And your brother was laughing at you.”
“Cunt,” he grumbled at the mention of his brother. “Well, even if you didn’t fall in love with me right then and there—I did. I knew I had to be yours from the moment I saw you.”
You lowered yourself to a crouch, cupping his face and caught his lips in a feverish kiss. When you pulled away, you pressed your forehead against his. “Are you telling me this because you want me to stay?”
A sheepish grin tugged at the corner of Tangerine’s lips. “Is it working?”
“Nope,” you said, popping the ‘p’. You pulled away, slinging a packed bag over your shoulder and heading out the bedroom. “I’ll see you tomorrow, baby. Love you.”
“Wait! You said you’d come back tonight!”
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/a7df8d3629df1463b4252a1a88ebc6e2/f5c8b5247a8249e8-f6/s540x810/305d37f0e649000278bfbb72b7114717b0b5245f.jpg)
True to your word, you had returned home at midnight, stumbling through the door tired and weary. Thankfully, you weren’t too banged up, just a scratch on your shoulder from the graze of a bullet that you managed to patch yourself before coming back. You were greeted with Tangerine dozing on the couch, a shitty reality show glowing on the television screen, with the half-eaten apple pie on the coffee table in front. He startled awake when you flicked his cheek with a smile.
“Hey, sleepy,” you said, dipping down to kiss his forehead, sauntering towards your bedroom to get changed.
As expected, your husband scurried off the couch to follow after you, gathering you into his arms and kissing you deeply. “I missed you,” he murmured, accent thick and lilting.
“Come on, I wanna get to sleep,” you said, tugging him to the bed with a muffled yawn.
In no time, he was curled up behind you, his large arm thrown over your waist and hand splayed out over your stomach. His nose was buried into the back of your head, unable to wipe the pleased smile off of his features.
It was relatively easy to drift to sleep, given how exhausted the two of you already were.
Not even three hours later, with the two of you already deep in slumber, there came a loud crashing from the front of the house. Someone was breaking in.
Immediately, you sat up in the bed, slipping out from beneath Tangerine’s heavy arms and the blanket. The cold air kissed your bare skin, sending a shiver spidering up your spine. You reached beneath your pillow to brandish a small emergency dagger you kept between the mattress and the headboard. Your husband also startled awake at the loud sound, eyes tired yet wide, grappling for a gun he kept beneath the bed.
“Stay in here,” he whispered, striding forward to the bedroom door, left slightly ajar.
“Like hell I am,” you quietly gruffed back, hot on his heels.
Knowing that there was no stopping you, Tangerine blew out a breath and the both of you crept closer, light on your feet. With no warning, Tan shouldered the door open and stepped out in one fluid motion, lining the gun up with the intruder.
A second later, he immediately lowered the weapon with a long string of exasperated curses. You peered over his shoulder, tense muscles loosening upon seeing Tangerine’s brother, Lemon, frozen in front of the broken window. His lips were twisted into a grimace and his eyes were as wide as saucers. There were shards of glass glimmering in his dark hair.
“What the fuck, man?” your husband erupted, immediately clicking the safety back on his gun and shoving it into the waistband of his sweats. “Are you daft? The fuck did you break my window for?”
“I was looking for you! Never heard a peep from you two after your missions. I just assumed the worst!” he exclaimed. For a moment, Lemon’s dark eyes flickered to you. “Hi, Y/N. Look lovely, by the way.”
You crossed your arms, more amused than anything. “Hey, Lemon.”
“Why didn’t you fuckin’ call us, then? Bloody fucking idiot! Going down and breaking my window like that,” he angrily muttered, stomping forward to inspect the damage. “You’re paying for this, you twat.”
Rearing back, Lemon snarled, “Oi! I did call you! Didn’t answer your phones, the neither of you. I thought something happened! Forgive me for worrying about my brother and my in-law!”
“The fuck you mean, I would get the fucking notification if you called me!” Tangerine hissed back, pressing the heels of his palms into his sleepy eyes. After a second, he reached down into his pocket, fishing out his phone. He pressed the power button once, then twice. A third time for good measure. “Well, fuck me. It’s dead.”
You hid a smile behind your palm. You married a complete, hot-headed idiot. With an exasperated roll of your eyes, you wiggled your fingers farewell and swiftly turned, yawning as you dragged yourself back into the room. “I’m going back to bed. You two behave yourselves.”
Both of them grunted goodbyes at your departure, before immediately carrying on with their arguments.
“Why didn’t you just call Y/N?”
A long pause. Lemon's eye twitched. “Didn’t think of that, to be honest with you… What are you, a fucking halfwit? Of course I called Y/N!”
"Oh, right, yeah, Y/N does put their phone on DND before bed. Right."
"Right."
Frowning, Tangerine barked out, “Still, you’re a fuckin’ idiot, you know that? I could’ve shot you!”
“Alright, alright, calm your tits. D’you mind if I crash on your couch for the night?”
“What, are you bloody mental?” Another pause. “Alright, fine. Just take your shoes off. Dont want you tracking mud all over the place.”
Half an hour later, Tangerine crawled back into bed, settling himself behind you. You had fallen asleep already, but shifted with a pleasant hum when he pressed a ticklish kiss to the junction of your neck and shoulder.
“Love you,” he whispered, tugging you closer to his chest. You drowsily murmured something incoherent in response, and Tangerine contentedly drifted off into a dreamless sleep.

hello! if your still playing the directors cut game, may i ask about gig officially gigged? anything youd like to say about it! its the first fic i read of yours and i really do love it (as charles' fellow my chemical romance lover)
I am delighted to do more director's cut asks! Thank you for this one about gig officially gigged. I have previously revealed the track listing for the band's debut album (with respective songwriter credits) but I will annotate them briefly below:
SKELETONS IN THE CLOSET (Payne) - Edwin's songs are all a little to a lot macabre, and also usually have puns in the titles. It is unclear if this song is a metaphor for sexuality, or about literal skeletons in a literal closet ACES DACES (Rowland) - fun fact! 'aces daces' was the working title of in this city there's a thousand things I want to say to you. It's a reference to both the band AC/DC and the song A.C.D.C. by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, which is about a chaotic bisexual LEFT OVER RITE (Payne) - contains what Crystal deems an excessively long harpsichord solo TANPOPO NO KAMISAMA (Sasaki) - this is the band's one song to have made it abroad - it went viral in Japan and became the theme tune of a fantasy anime. Niko makes a small cameo in the anime, voicing a goddess called Dandelion Fairy STICKY CRICKET WICKET (Rowland) - this is one of the song titles taken from the canon caseboard. It is Charles' version of Queen's Bicycle Race and involves him singing rhyming gibberish over a snazzy beat GIRLS’ KNIVES OUT (Sasaki, Surname von Hoverkraft) - Niko and Crystal's riot grrrl moment! they dedicate this song to Jenny at every performance and she pretends to hate it (she loves it) RESTLESS PIANO SYNDROME (Payne) - again, taken from the caseboard. Edwin plays duelling pianos on this one. Against himself. PICK UP WHAT YOU’RE PUTTING DOWN (Rowland) - Charles has filled this song with double entendres. Nobody knows if he has done this on purpose or is oblivious. Edwin suspects it is the former, but carries on as if it is the latter. (It is the latter.) BRACELET ABOUT THE BONE (Payne) - this song, which Edwin claims is inspired by John Donne's 'The Relic', is indeed about Thomas. This bothers Charles a lot. It also bothers Thomas, not that he would ever admit it BURY THE EX (Surname von Hoverkraft) - blues rock number which Crystal first wrote during her recovery after the drink-driving incident, then sat on till she met the band LANTERN IN THE DARK (Payne) - slow rock ballad, deeply romantic, pining visible from space. Charles thought for the longest time it was just another literary reference he didn't get STAIRWAY TO HELL (Payne, Rowland) - no need for elaboration!
(bonus track)
GOT THE HELL OUT OF HELL (WE AIN’T GOING BACK) (Payne, Rowland, Sasaki, Surname von Hovercraft) - this was basically the band messing about in the studio and riffing off each other; they liked the result so much they ended up recording it as a bonus track, and all four of them have writing credits
Thank you for this ask! I'm also tagging @nix-nihili @ghostinthelibrarywrites and @tumblerislovetumblerislife as they have asked about gig officially gigged previously
(from the end-of-year/start-of-year Director's Cut game - ask me for additional lore or meta about any of my fics last year)

Hi I'm loving working my way through your post about music Edwin might have liked from his era! Thanks for creating such a cool resource!
In one of the gameodens, George mentioned he used a music box that played Blue Danube to get into the right headspace for Edwin in Hell.
Do you have any thoughts on that piece of music? On any associations it might have that I've missed?
In my ignorance, I'm inclined to think that the tune itself isn't particularly relevant, but more the tinny tone and repetitive motion/refrain foster an anxious kind of energy... much like being chased by a demon spider through endless corridors, for instance,
Hello hello! Thank you so much for asking this question, I literally live to talk about this stuff. For those of you who haven't seen the resource post being referred to, you can find it here!
So, I actually asked George about what music Edwin would have enjoyed before his death during his first round of cameos, and based on his answers, I don't think he knows a whole lot about classical music (which is fair enough). Because of that, I think his reasons for picking that song were likely more feeling-based than history based! So, let's talk about it.
So, The Blue Danube Waltz by Johann Strauss (otherwise known as An der schönen blauen Donau) is a waltz piece, as the name suggests. A waltz piece is a piece that is almost always written in 3/4 time (otherwise known as 'waltz time') because the waltz can only be danced to pieces in triple time (almost always 3/4, but also conceivably in 6/8, if a composer wants to be annoying). Waltzes are known for their smooth, gliding motion and perpetual forward momentum. They very much inspire movement, so I think in some way, you're right! They very much match the frantic, anxious energy of trying to escape a monster.
Also! You've stumbled upon something that I've actually talked about quite a bit with my music composition/film scoring students (I also teach orchestral composition, on occasion). In many famous villain scenes, you will often find very upbeat and/or soothing classical music set amongst violent fights/torture scenes/other various villainous acts.
The most famous would probably be A Clockwork Orange paired with Beethoven's 9th symphony or Bach's Goldberg Variations in the Silence of The Lambs, but I've also seen Bach's cello suite paired with a great many villain scenes (the one that comes to mind is Wilson Fisk from Daredevil). Classical music has a long history of being used in horror movies and as villainous themes, so I think the fact that George paired it with the doll spider is very fitting.
As for his listening to the music box version, the doll spider was in the Doll House, surrounded by broken dolls and childish laughter. I think the sound of a music box would be the best way to get into that sort of mindset for sure.
Thanks for asking!
#dead boy detectives#dbda#dbdshow#edwin payne#this is mostly off the dome lmao i hope it’s all correct#technically a waltz can be written in anything that's triple time#but 3/4 and 6/8 are just the most common#if i see a waltz in 3/8 or 9/8 then i'm legally allowed to kill someone i think

Today in the Department of Before They Were Star Trek Stars, DeForest Kelley guest stars in "The Legion of Old Timers," episode 5 of the first season of The Lone Ranger (original air date October 6, 1949).
Kelley plays Bob Kittredge, a tenderfoot from back East who's just inherited his late father's ranch. He falls prey to a con man who drives away the ranch's faithful foreman (the eponymous "old timer") and tries to sell the land out from under him. The Lone Ranger, Tonto, and the old foreman ride to the rescue and good triumphs over evil until next week's episode.
Since there are no other Trek connections, allow me to just ramble a bit about The Lone Ranger and me. I've never seen the 1949-57 TV series before, but I'm told it was one of my Grandpa's favorites. I also never saw the 2013 movie, but people assure me I didn't miss much. This was around the time I was thinking, “Gore Verbinski and Johnny Depp could use a break from each other,” and “Tim Burton and Johnny Depp could use a break from each other.”
The 1980 Filmation animated series was part of my regular Saturday morning cartoon experience as a little kid. I don't have a ton of clear memories of it, except that characters from American history made guest appearances/cameos, and it was part of a larger series with Tarzan and Zorro.
Several kids I knew had these Lone Ranger action figures, and they were really high quality. One line from the TV commercial jingle (set to the tune of the William Tell overture that became the Lone Ranger theme) went, “Let him ride in a covered wagon; let him hold a rifle in his hand,” and still gets stuck in my head decades later. One issue with this is that I've never been able to find a recording or video of this commercial ever since it aired in the 1980s. Another is that I, being unfamiliar with the term “covered wagon” at the time, thought he was riding in something called a “cupboard wagon” and immediately pictured the wagon from the Chuck Wagon dog food commercials (which, in all fairness the Lone Ranger action figure could have easily ridden in).
When I was a teenager, one of my mother's best friends married a man who claimed to be a cousin of Jay Silverheels, the actor who played Tonto. I have no idea if there was any merit to his claim. He had a signed picture of them together, but if every celebrity someone had a signed picture with was their cousin, the world would be a big, weird family.
Anyway, season's greetings from Tonto, Tarzan, and Frankenstein.

synopsis. You are a singer-songwriter. Music has always been a part of you, it's a part of your identity that no one can ever take away. However, there's always a catch: you are diagnosed with a chronic illness that puts your life on a timer. Those who have heard your countless melodies have grown to notice that the notes on the sheet played a gloomier tune. Would the snarky and capable medical student you've met be able to bring life back into these melodies? Even as your life begins to seep out of your own body? A reboot/rebranded version of Autumn Leaves.

The Underworld
I cannot even express how excited I was to listen to the Underworld Saga. It did not disappoint at all (of course, I wanted more songs, but the trio was amazing). Spoilers ahead for Epic the Musical.
"The Underworld" was an amazing setup for what we had coming. There are just so many tiny details! There are callbacks with "Full speed ahead," "Open Arms," and of course, we also have the "Ruthlessness" callbacks with the army. That would be so horrifying. He's surrounded by the 500+ soldiers who relied on him and trusted him to bring them back home. He even stated back in the Ocean saga how he didn't lose a single soul in the war. It's when they leave that everyone starts dying. Then, we have the heart-breaking Polites cameo, reminding Odysseus of how he cost his best friend his life. Now, the part that got me a little choked up was when his mom showed up. I have read even the story, so I know that she's gone, but it hurt so much to hear him realize he'd been at war so long that he never got to see her alive again. Him saying "Bye, Mom," just tears my heart strings right out. I love the contrast too of the quiet sadness in his voice with this line, then immediately yelling "All I hear are screams!" There's so much rage and pain as he's forced to confront everything that's kept him away from his family--including those he'll never be reunited with in life.
Then, we have "No Longer You." When I say the snippet did not do this song justice...(sighs dreamily). I still enjoyed the snippet, but this is probably my favorite of the bunch to listen to. The melody, the vocals, it's all just so beautiful. The tune just seems to float like you could do a ballroom dance with someone. That's not to say that the lines aren't great too. I love how this one plays on Odysseus's fears and how his increased time away from home has jaded him. The prophet basically says, "I see you with your wife, but you're messed up from your time away" and our Ithaca king is just pissed that he saw someone with his wife. Uh, buddy...well, I guess you'll find out soon enough. It's also so fun to know the story and get reminded of what Odysseus will be doing when he returns to Ithaca, fighting subjects who just assumed he had died and don't have respect for anyone in his family now. Even this entire concept to me in fascinating since it considers an underlying theme of the play: how people change due to their experiences. Odysseus will return, but it'll never be the same Odysseus who left in the first place.
And we end with "Monster" which is such an awesome ending to a first act. I wish this was live, so the audience could erupt in applause. (Small detail, but I love the music at the beginning. It's so unique when compared to the other songs and is pretty cool, gradually growing when more instruments are added). A bigger detail is that you have the instrumental intro matching the intro for "The Horse and the Infant." It just shows how far they've come and calls back to the very first time Odysseus was responsible for a lost life in the musical. My favorite line in this song is "I'm the only one whose line I haven't crossed." That's saying something too because this song is full of amazing lines. I just love the implication since we know Odysseus has often had lines he thought were too far. He didn't want to kill the baby, chose to spare Polyphemus, didn't kill Circe when he won in the fight, etc. Still, as he finally admits in this song, he did kill the baby. Despite that, he hasn't crossed his line. Why? I think it's because he keeps pushing it back each time he's confronted with something he doesn't want to do but feels he has to. It ties into the end of this song where he considers everyone he's lost, fully understanding the scope of it now that he's seen the spirits of his loved ones. Turning into someone he never wanted to be doesn't matter anymore. If he's a monster who still has a living family and hasn't proven the faith people had in him was foolish, then it's fine. He might have even been a monster before by not going against their enemies with everything he had. It's all a matter of perspective. Was he a monster for killing the baby, one for causing so many in his fleet to never return to their families, or one for both of those choices? The ending going back to "The Horse and the Infant" with him calling out for Penelope and Telemachus AND pairing that with the repeat of "Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves" is marvelous. It's almost like it's in the same sentence where he's explaining his actions to them, telling them that he has to become a monster because it'll make things alright for everyone they hold dear.
The only thing that made me mad about this is that I have no clue when the next saga is coming out or what it's even called. So, I'll just be playing the songs on repeat until I can add however many more to the playlist.

Rating 500+ Theme Tunes - #16: 6Teen
Haha, do you see what I did there?
This one is a classic to me, it's 6Teen! From the people who brought you would go on to bring you Total Drama, 6Teen is a show about six 16-year-olds who would hang out at the mall, get jobs, and have all sorts of interpersonal drama. At the end of the day, it was a comedy show, but with plenty of genuine emotional depth and character relationships, which was a theme for many of these FreshTV shows.
This show is so aggressively nostalgic for me. I honestly didn't watch too much of it, but it really stuck in my memory. Being in the UK, and relying on the free channels, my exposure to 6Teen came on a little known channel called PopGirl. I used to watch Pop a lot, or sometimes Kix, even watching some Tiny Pop in my younger days. Now, PopGirl was much more derided in my house, but sometimes, late at night, it would have the best looking lineup to a young Rebbie. It was then that I would check my surroundings before switching over to PopGirl.
6Teen always stuck out as something cool because it was for older kids than I was at the time, which is exactly what it was made for. We wanted more grounded, serious, and dramatic shows, even if we weren't ready for the genuine shows of that nature. It genuinely did a great job at this though, being funny while genuinely addressing some serious topics. 6Teen even had a canonical lesbian who is treated entirely respectfully! It also had a pretty diverse cast, with each cjaracter having different heritages. This show was so cool that 24 episodes were banned or censored in the US.
While I didn't see too much of this one, I really loved what I saw way back when, and I wanted to be just like this with a great friendship group and a cool mall when I was their age. We don't have malls in the same way, especially in as small of a town as I lived in, but I managed the first.
Anyway, let's get to that theme tune!
6Teen Theme Song
The opening guitar of this song is so brilliant, and takes me back instantly to the time period. It's so strong, and goes nicely into the simple guitar with the very 2000s vocals. The genuine emotion in these vocals is so awesome to me, like the 6Teen theme shouldn't go this hard. This guy really gives it his all and I salute him. There's so much energy here that really fits the coming-of-age vibe of the show, and the emotional lyrics compliment this all nicely. This song is genuinely perfect for me, and this may show how much the nostalgia is showing, but it just transports me.
Yet again, I have an alternative version I wanna mention. In the final episode, Brian Melo performs a slowed-down, mellow version of the song to end the show, saying goodbye as the character of Nikki leaves. Firstly, I love this trope more than life itself. Secondly, this version ALSO brings me back wildly to this time perfectly, it just sounds like the late 2000s to early 2010s in music. At least sad music. And I listened to this a lot in that time! I'm not afraid to admit it made me cry multiple times! This is a beautiful version of a great song.
To summarise, I think it's pretty clear that I absolutely adore this song, and there's no way I could give it any less than an S. They distilled a song just for me and put it on a TV intro. I have listened to this endlessly since I was a kid, because I always loved this show and its intro. I also loved its cameo in Total Drama Action, as well as the two shows' many shared voice actors. Easy S. Sorry!
Stay tuned for more and be sure to send in any suggestions for other shows you'd like to see done (after the 500 already in the pipeline that is). Check out the intro to this series here!

Leon A. Huff (born April 8, 1942, in Camden, New Jersey) a session pianist became half of a seminal R&B songwriting and production team when he teamed with Kenny Gamble in 1965. He played in sessions for Phil Spector, the Ronettes, and Carole King in New York City before moving to Philadelphia. He formed the Locomotions and did sessions for Cameo and Swan. He performed on the song “The 81,”, who was at the session seeing the tune being recorded by Candy & the Kisses. He earned his first hit as a composer by writing “Mixed-Up Shook-Up Girl”. He joined the Romeos the next year, then teamed with Gamble to form Gamble Records. He wrote hits for the Ebonys, People’s Choice, Carolyn Crawford, and Bunny Sigler. He issued two singles as a solo artist on Philadelphia International, with “I Ain’t Jivin’, I’m Jammin” getting some moderate recognition.
Gamble and Huff formed Philadelphia International Records in 1971 as a rival to Motown. CBS Records backed the venture and distributed Philadelphia International’s records. Aided and abetted by in-house arrangers Thom Bell, Bobby Martin, and Norman Harris, Philadelphia International released a number of the most popular soul music hits, including “If You Don’t Know Me by Now”, “Back Stabbers”, “For the Love of Money”, and “Love Train”, as well as the Grammy-winning “Me and Mrs. Jones”. In collaboration with Bell, Gamble, and Huff formed the music publisher Mighty Three Music.
Philadelphia’s soul sound evolved from simpler arrangements into a style featuring lush strings, thumping basslines, and sliding hi-hat rhythms—elements that soon became the distinguishing characteristics of a new style of music called disco. Philadelphia International and the Philadelphia soul genre it helped define had eclipsed the Motown Sound in popularity, and they were the premiere producers of soul.
Nearly all of the Philadelphia International records featured the work of Mother Father Sister Brother. MFSB cut several successful instrumental albums and singles written and produced by the team including the #1 hit “TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia)” known as the theme song from Soul Train. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

Rip of the week: 25/11/2024
Slope Dude
Season 4 Episode 2 Featured on: Summer-Colored Smiles ~ The SiIvaSummer All-Star Festival Collection
Ripped by eg_9371
youtube
You may notice it's been a while since the last post, as it was with the post before it, and so on. Truth be told, the switch to weekly posting came with its own set of issues for my flow of work; mainly, that I've gotten too damn ambitious in my writing for some of these posts. I'm incredibly happy with the end results of a lot of them and feel more confident in being able to wholeheartedly recommend reading any of my post-hiatus posts than I do a majority of my pre-hiatus posts...but it also means that I'm met with self-induced hurdles on how and what to write about. I can't just cover a rip that I just find funny and neat; It has to be historical, it has to be magnificent, it has to have immaculate pathos, has to tie into the SiIvaGunner spirit or whatever else I find myself waxing on about...
No, you know what? Screw it. I'm behind on my posts anyway. We're doing a simple goodie today. Writing the same day it's posted, of a rip I just keep returning to for a good laugh, with no strings attached. Old-school style. Slope Dude.
Back on Lagplane, I mused a bit about the novelty of memes that leave us almost as quickly as they arrive, the consequences of the intensely rapid meme economy born from modern social media. It was a lot of waffling to justify writing about a flamboyant Andrew Tate impersonator, but it's hardly as if these trend-based jokes are a new occurrence on SiIva. I'm reminded of how 2016 saw a handful of rips poking fun at then-notorious online figure Keemstar, for instance – but perhaps stranger than these, are when jokes on SiIva crop up without any recent relevancy, are incredibly prominent for the length of a season or so, and then fade away just as suddenly as they appeared. Unlike Stuck Inside of FEEL SO FINE STUCK INSIDE fame, unlike the Mad Mew Mew Becoming Uncanny rips, unlike so many other jokes on the channel...the appearance of Game Dude on SiIvaGunner throughout Season 4 felt as if it came out of nowhere, made even stranger by just how limited its presence felt. We got a handful of rips, a bunch of appearances in medley rips, a cameo in a lore video, and then the tune was out just as quickly as it had entered. No relevancy, no big explosive tie to the themes or intent of Season 4 Episodes 1 or 2 in particular; just a silly theme with a handful of rippers who decided to play around with it.
Part of me wonders, akin to rips like old town ribbon race, just how much of the appeal of the joke here becomes lost without whollistic knowledge of its lore. The tale of Game Dude is one of the internet's many bizarre sidequests, long overdue for a YouTube video essay a la HBomberGuy's body of work to truly bring it all to light, yet for now still remaining obscure enough to only be spread in whispers between those who know. It was the kind of thing I myself was given the "privilege" of uncovering on my own terms after first watching a Game Grumps episode built entirely on indirectly mocking him and growing all-too-curious about what he's up to; one of many Angry Video Nerd Clones trying and failing ever so badly at being funny playing bad video games, Game Dude's last legacy online would be to be known as the guy who fled his home state when called to court over stalking his ex-girlfriend. It gives the imagery of a bumbling, somewhat pathetic figure, someone who tried and failed to find online fame through poor mimicry and wound up unable to take proper responsibility for themselves. Like the aforementioned Lagplane, it adds just that extra aura to the theme song attached to the character, the original intro to his theme songs; once a song with the levity focused on the games and show now feels as if its mocking the very person making the videos themselves. Indeed, few things are as certain as life, death, and the Nostalgia Critic effect.
All that is to say, that I get a lot of amusement from the Game Dude theme, and of all its handful of rips focusing exclusively on it I think eg_9371 hit the nail right on the head with Slope Dude. There's no gimmicks, twists or turns; its as simple as a melodyswap/arrangement rip can be, an Outertale or Jesus of the Underground that trades in the pathos and nostalgia for a complete commitment to the silliness of the bit. Slope from Super Mario RPG, like much of the game's soundtrack, already has such a bombastically silly tone to it; the buildup to the main melody finally kicking in at 0:14 in particular sells the joke so much harder, a marching band drum roll all to introduce the fucking Game Dude theme. The instrumentation feels absolutely perfect for the tune and is matched equally as perfectly by the context said tune appears in in the game, running after Booster up a slope midway through the game. The hummability of the melody, the context of Game Dude's situation and the silliness of the sound means the jokes write themselves; as one commenter says, "He is the Game Dude // He is so rude // He flees the country // when his court date is due".
As per expected of eg_9371 and his ripping prowess, Slope Dude is about as pitch perfect as it could be, an idea pursued to its logical endpoint much like Forest of Tears or dong music. Regardless of scale or time invested, the rip ends up being enjoyable in such a simple way, applying the perfect amount of levity applicable to such an absurd figure of YouTube's past. It's likely a lot of SiIva viewers completely forgot that Game Dude was at one small point considered a reoccurring meme on the channel, and he never quite got anywhere past his introduction the same way something like the similar-in-spirit Minecraft With Gadget of Season 2 got with Become as Gadget. Yet the small handful of rips featuring him were still there, all condensed all into Season 4 Episode 2 in particular; and though he's likely to remain forgotten by most fans, I'll remain a loyal Game Dude – and Slope Dude – fan until nobody else remains.

Happy 80th Birthday to Private Snafu!
Snafu.......Situation Normal All........All Fouled Up!
youtube
A series of World War 2-themed animated short films screened for young military men. They were mainly instructional, educational films, but still contained that same irreverent, slapstick comedy style of humor of the Looney Tunes & Merrie Melodies, thanks to the contributions of the boys of Termite Terrace: Chuck Jones, Bob Clampett, Friz Freleng and Frank Tashlin, and voice legend Mel Blanc.
The intention these cartoons had on the military audiences was that, the titular character, Private Snafu was an incompetent soldier that was meant to illustrate, in more straightforward way, what NOT to do (true to his name that is), with practically each short ending with Snafu getting blown.
Imagine how different it could've been if Disney had done these instead of Warner Bros., as that was the United States Army’s first choice. But that didn't happen as Leon Schlesinger would bid lower than Disney.
These shorts, of course, generally remained obscure in the minds of the mainstream audiences (until recently that is) as they never were intended to be shown in public theaters. As Martha Sigall, a staff of the ink-and-paint department at Leon Schlesinger Studios, stated these Private Snafu cartoons were top secret. They wore ID badges, did fingerprints, got FBI approval and were given ten cels rather than the usual thirty cels, to prevent them from knowing about the stories.

Therefore, it was never made for a general audiences of kids and adults as the publicly released Looney Tunes shorts were, especially considering it’s content; mild swearing (i.e., damn, hell) and fanservice displayed all over these cartoons that couldn't have been possible in the days of the Hays Code (it's especially surprising to note that Ted Geisel, AKA Dr. Seuss, of all people, was the main writer for THESE!!! Wowie!!!!).
Fun fact: (one of the shorts titled “Censored” was shown on Cartoon Network’s trivia show Toonheads late at night with half of the scene featuring a topless Sally Lou cut out!)
And, naturally, because this was a WWII-themed series, featured a good deal of derogatory depictions/imagery of Japanese/Germans and Nazis (which will not be shown here).
It's interesting to see not only how strongly connected Private Snafu is to the Looney Tunes, considering, not only the same style of humor, but the two cameo appearances of Bugs Bunny (Gas and Three Brothers), which could make Snafu himself a Looney Tune.
This is especially considering his early bird cameo in Chuck Jones’s The Draft Horse.
Later on, Private Snafu would not only be done by Warner Bros., but also by it’s competitors, like MGM, UPA, Harman-Ising and Disney.

Two shorts were left unproduced. One of them was originally going to be directed by none other Tex Avery at MGM. Too bad that didn’t happen!!
Though the Private Snafu series maybe a time capsule of World War 2, as oppose to being as timeless as the classic Looney Tunes cartoons are, they still serve as a fascinating historical art, a look at what our world was going through, and still included a lot of the trademark style of humor seen in the Warner Bros. cartoons that still kept it entertaining enough.

The Psycho House - Jessica investigates a murder on the set of Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho (1960). In the opening credits there is a burst of the theme tune from Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1955) and a man that looks like Hitchcock crosses the street. This is a nod to the cameos that Hitchcock made in most of his films.

☆ I have a reality tv show that runs from 2010-2016 (so ages 15-21) (I also scripted that it won't be too hectic so I can have decent teenage years)
☆ I also am THAT girl, the it-girl to end all it-girls it's so serious
☆ There will be a Barbie doll line made inspired by me, and I will also have a cameo in the Barbie movie dressed as one of those dolls (the meta of it all)
☆ I also have cameos in movies I'm on the soundtrack for (Catching Fire, Dork Diaries, Percy Jackson and The Titan's Curse, The Great Gatsby, Barbie etc.)
☆ I also scripted that the Percy Jackson movies weren't dookie and that Dork Diaries got 3 films.
☆ I want to live that Nikki Maxwell lifestyle, so I also go to North Hampton Hills (on scholarship), I won Valentine's Sweetheart, I won an Ice Skating competition, I ran my school's newspaper's advice column, I write in my diary a lot.
☆ My rise to stardom came from my win on a talent show in 2009/2010 (the timeline here is a bit wonky)

☆ I have two singles (Really Bad Boy released in 2016 and DDU-DU DDU-DU released in 2017). I also have a few songs I did for ads specifically (Peek-a-boo for a Halloween themed pizza commercial, Speed Drive for a Barbie ad and ICONIC for a Nike ad)
☆ I also did the soundtrack for a Nintendo game I scripted in (Odyssey), released in 2021.
☆ I'm considered the best performer of my generation.
☆ I had a mega tour from 2015-2017, bigger than the Eras tour. It was a cultural phenomenom, and the demand lead to the tour being extended.

☆ Still questioning if I should script young coriolanus in...I could write style about him...save me blonde tom blyth...save me..
