i am handing in my b.a. thesis (on motherhood in gothic fiction) in a few short days and though i have been complaining about having to write it for six months straight, right now i am actually feeling bereft of future opportunities to write academic papers about my silly little interests. for instance right now i really want to research & write about dracula daily & genre & the impacts of the newsletter format on the narrative (the addition of a timeloop)

i think about format and the specifics of narration a lot when i'm writing my own little things and i loooove when the narration - not just the narrator, but the act of telling the story - is part of the narrative. love when the narration is diegetic! love an epistolary novel (like dracula!) for this reason. should read more of them

inventory by carmen maria machado (short story! read it immediately!) is a GREAT example of this. the format of the narration is so integral to the story. does more than elevate it imo, i would argue the story genuinely wouldn't work any other way

as someone who has a history with denying their gender identity and trying to be "normal" despite VERY clearly knowing what they want, seeing a character who is actually repressive and in denial about their sexuality means the world to me. I love you girl I hope you get through this.

I thought it was impossible to relate to Luz even more than I already do. This scene proved me wrong.

I can't even begin to explain how heartbroken and comforted I felt at the same time. Truly a beautiful scene.

I was 14 when the owl house started. I was 17 when it ended.

Luz Noceda was 14 when she entered the demon realm for the first time. She was 18 by the time she’d finished rebuilding it.

I find so many parallels with Luz and myself. She taught me that people like me for my authentic, weird, queer self. She taught me that kindness is always the best way.

I’ve grown up with this show. I’ve grown up with the characters and grown as a person as they have. I’ve been trying to find the words to express how much it all means to me, but that’s all I can say.

Thank you Owl House crew and Dana, for giving me a friend, a fandom and a community that’s grown up with me. I’m forever grateful.

not a question I can answer without some cheating and even then remember that I have a lot of media interests so something I haven’t revisited in a while could be lower on the radar in my mind’s eye. But off the top of my head without second guessing myself too much:

Good on the owl house crew for straight baiting btw. The wlw ship is built up beautifully over one and a half seasons and throw out the word girlfriend every other sentence in case you forget. The first episode the wlnb ship shows up they make a murder suicide pact and literally the next episode we see them breaking up to confirm theyre exes that definitely canonically dated. The wlm couple gets 4 frames where they stand next to each other, maybe two conversations where they actually bond, and are closer to literally everyone else in their friend group than they are to each other.

If you want to actually show the ship is "good" you need to string everything up on a conspiracy board and ppl will think youre insane (and ppl would be right). But theres like. Enough tender gestures and blushes there that while it doesnt mean anything without good buildup in the plot that it doesnt have, will still leave ppl going all "are they...you know" *mimes a yoyo and baton.*
