Welcome back to more Uzumaki Marco.

Beginning of the AU

Marco is thirteen and his mother is dead, nothing left but the family sword taken away by the only surviving marines and he wants it back.

Months into his hunt he meets a man who takes one look at him and invites him to join his crew. Marco refuses, the large man tries to congole Marco saying that he is young and needs support.

And Marco knows he is right, Marco was raised by a practical woman who placed a blade in her toddler’s hands and taught him how to see the real feelings of a person in their eyes, their voice, their gate. Marco is small still for his age, and as useful as his fruit is he cannot use his mother’s techniques or seals without hurting himself.

So Marco agrees, he agrees on the condition the man helps his reclaim what is his by right. The Ryuketsu no ken was forged for his clan in the blood of their guardian deity. And the man agrees.

Marco joins the crew of Edward Newgate “Whitebeard”, unsure and distrustful but glad all the same to at least still be at sea. The man is strong and his eyes are kind so Marco takes the risk.

And the crew, the crew is mostly kind. A young teen barely a year or two older seems to take exception to Marco. But Marco chooses usefulness over friendliness at first; he can navigate as well as an adult (better even), he knows ropes and can scale even without his wings, he aids with cleaning and mess duty, and has a particular fascination and love for helping the doctor on the crew.

Minus a hiccup or two, and he deescalated when Crocodile challenged him so Newgate should be glad because he was taught to kill threats, he settles well. He even has become very fond of the crew, even Crocodile (he has the best reactions to being pranked). He thinks his mother would be glad he’s not alone (after she threatened Whitebeard most likely).
