NPR Tiny Desk Contest 2025 ~ Trust Your Doors
The Repressions’ song “Trust Your Doors” is the official entry for NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest 2025! This is a song about the difficulty of making changes, for even the best changes to our lives are not easy. This contest features independent artists and is a lovely showcase of songwriting, and desks! A new tiny Repressions desk and all of the previous customized tiny desks can be seen in between…

fainting goat hybrid!ghost whose father and brother loved to scare him and make him faint; exploiting a weakness he didn’t understand and didn’t know how to stop. they took sadistic pleasure in watching his body lock up and fall to the ground with no hope of catching himself until he ended up with more bruises and scrapes from falling than from being beaten
that helplessness chafed at him and he forced himself through the drawbacks of his biology to secure a place in the military, even with the prejudice against prey animals. just for him to take a mission in mexico and find himself enduring the “hospitality” of roba who thinks his involuntary paralysis is a great deal of fun; especially when he learns he’s conscious the whole time
what haunts ghost most is his waking autopsy
not the pain of the incisions, not the trauma of watching roba reach into his body and play with his insides, but the knowledge that he couldn't get away because his own body betrayed him. he wasn't put under, no drugs coursed through his system. he didn’t have restraints fitted on him to lock him to the operating table. it wasn’t necessary
roba just had to make him faint first
after digging himself out of his grave, ghost puts himself on a dangerous cocktail of muscle relaxers and other medications; hormones that block hybrid instincts, vasodilators to increase blood flow and stop his muscles locking up, anti-anxiety meds to cut off his surprise response at the root. he puts his body through the wringer to the point that medical is constantly worried for his health and shocked that he isn't regularly OD’ing
but he will never let his body betray him again

So, like out of curiosity, what are the cultural differences of child-rearing in English speaking countries vs. in Japanese society? You mentioned that in your Mrs. Rosehearts post, and now i'm curious.
I can't speak to much on it to be honest, as I only have my experience and the experiences that my friends have told me to compare. I also don't want to make huge assumptions, and since I can only compare between American and Latino child-rearing, I don't think I'm the best to ask 😓
My only opinion on Mrs. Rosehearts is that I think the TWST fandom, particularly the ones from the EN server, overly villainize her, rather than see her as a complicated character. I think that as a parent, she wants Riddle's best interests in mind but is so concerned about something ruining her son, even things out of her control, that she finds it easier to just keep him near and control everything to keep him safe and on the path that she believes will bring him the most success. She's not a good person, as she has absolutely done irreversible damage to Riddle and his social skills, but I think if you aren't raised in a similar situation as Riddle, or come from a culture where her type of child-rearing isn't normal, it's easy to just write her off as a bad parent and person. I'm of the opinion that it's a lot more complicated than that, which is why I'm more neutral about her and when I write her.

I think that people in the fandom trying to overexplain stuff to justify devs' decision to reduce worldstate choices to a mere handful is becoming a bit.. unnecessary
"It's northern Thedas, how many of your previous choices actually matter there?" I'm pretty sure the majority of us do realize it but that's not the point. Sure, we can attribute any mindset to a recurring NPC to not overshare because your Rook is a stranger to them, but I think it's getting a bit ridiculous because again, the logic of it or plausability is not the point... any recurring character in inquisition could've not shared anything about their personal life by that logic but my question is, would that be fun though? Like, the majority of theories or "imagines" or possible explanations I've read sound plausible and make sense, but it's not fun, and it can flatten characters, and it certainly doesn't make it feel like the previous choices matter... in a game series where your choices should matter. Well, some of them.
I get it though, maybe it's some form of damage control/trying to calm people down. The fandom does need to chill a bit plus some people are really going too far (let's not send death threats to devs please), but overall, I think people are just… mourning in a way (or rather processing) and expressing their disappointment, which is fair. I certainly feel that.

new tamers movie made me actually cry i cant believe theyve topped their own visual and writing styles theyve had for the last 10+ years twice in one month it’s still shitposty but watching the veil of irony slowly drop as they find a new community that isnt drenched in satire and responding to that with writing that conveys like real passion is genuinely heartwarming

"Then she was standing before me, and suddenly the atmosphere underwent a peculiar change -- almost as though the two of us had been suddenly thrust on to some other plane of being altogether. I am afraid it is not easy to describe clearly what I mean here. All I can say is that everything around us suddenly became very still; it was my impression that Miss Kenton's manner also underwent a sudden change; there was a strange seriousness in her expression, and it struck me she seemed almost frightened." The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro
