This makes so much sense why Kipperlilly was asking about how Kristen made Yes! And specifically Where she made Yes! at.

Kristen made a whole new Deity through Arthur Augfort's office and school. As a powerful cleric she reached into the Astral Plane and made life out of her questioning and worship. She temporarily had access to the realm of dead gods to make something from nothing. This was all set in the making from day one.

Jace was working with Kalina and Arianwen to revive The Nightmare King and The Rage Goddess. That's what Ragh saw in front of the office after Prompocolypse. They used Kalvaxis wanting to regain his power as a bigger play to bring back their corrupted and dead deities. A chess piece in a series of steps.

While Kalina was going to bring back The Nightmare King, Jace would work on bringing back The Rage Goddess through Elmville. Kristen already proved that Augefort Academy has access to the Astral Plane. He found and targeted students susceptible to rage, took them to the Mountains of Chaos where the Divine Wedding took place and force the students to make a choice: live for Rage or stay dead.

The Rat Grinders made that choice except for Lucy. Which is a problem because the Need a Cleric. The people the Rat Grinders killed from the school have been Clerics, because with Kristen's method you need a powerful connection to a Deity and Worship to bring life to one.

Lucy worshiped a Giant Goddess, she would have been perfect but she refused.

Yolanda gave up any affiliation to a specific deity, neutral but powerful in worship. She would be a worthy vessel but she refused.

Buddy was brought to always be killed. A follower of Helio, the son of Sol who had corrupted the Goddesses in the first place. He is the grandson of a powerful Cleric, and has that same connection and power within himself. Kipperlilly didn't kill Buddy in panic, that was the plan all along: bypass Obliviti Mori by killing a cleric to meet the Rage Goddess in the Astral Plane, then revive them to spread the word and start the ritual. Buddy was just the first one to accept.

Like in Sylvaire, they are seeding Rage to make their own version of the Nightmare Forest to bring back The Rage Goddess. It's going to bloom and spread, rake over Elmville and the Augefort Academy where the Astral Connection is.

These plans have been started since Freshman Year, and have been defeated all because on goblin was just trying to find his babysitter and another halfling just couldn't handle that.

I love the detail about how the dragon gods choose to present themselves to Yona.

They are desperate to get the crimson dragon back and so they are doing everything in their (considerable) power to force yona to stay in Heaven.

Thing is, they don’t want yona, not really, they just want what she represents— Hiryuu’s soul. Which is why when they do this, when they take the form of the people yona loves the most, first in order to deceive her into thinking that she’s finally been reunited with them and could now live with them in peace and harmony forever more in this place of perfect beauty and tranquility

And then, when that fails, they wear the faces of her loved ones still to try and get her to let her guard down, to trust them, because not only are they all powerful, they’re familiar and safe and dedicated to her and her only.

They use the identities of the people whom Yona holds dearest to her heart as masks and from there they set off on trying to convince (manipulate) her into staying. But even for all the lengths they’re going to, you can see they will fail because even their masks betray them.

The longer they keep on negotiating with her (threatening her into staying) the more the masks slip. At most panels they look like they’re melting right off, collapsing inwards

and it’s not for a lack of trying to cling to the lie — even as their forms oscillate back and forth you can still see some parts of the disguise holding on; the shape of hak’s eyes, his hair, kija’s face, the slash of a smile that should be familiar……..

All parts of her family, all dearly beloved, all deformed almost beyond recognition by the obsession of the dragon gods.

And I like to think that that is a direct reflection of the way our perception of the four dragon gods has changed throughout the story.

Kusanagi has managed to expertly craft this journey that took us gradually but seamlessly from the beginning where the four dragon gods started off as this legendary beacon of noble hope and righteousness, this ever watching eye sworn to protect Yona and all those loved by her, this source of vindication that yes! You’re rooting for the right person! Look at her! She is divine! She is the chosen one! She is Heaven’s Will made flesh!

Something other. Something cruel. Creatures so far removed from humans’ understanding of them, so apathetic to human’s pain and suffering and love and joy (even that of the human they are currently obsessed with by virtue of her soul), so wrapped in their loneliness and self imposed isolation that they have become the very destruction we thought they were guarding against.

buddy is surrounded by horrible horrible adults like at all times and it is deeply stressing to me. not to baby him, i do think he is easily mislead but he is not stupid. but also like. can he be given a moment to breathe actually. can he not be manipulated for one second. please put him in a normal social situation with regular teenagers his age please im begging you

idk almost anything about fantasy high but I think the rat grinders are hilarious because imagine a group of kids just going into the forest every day to kill hundreds and hundreds of rats for YEARS. pew pew zap squeaks of terror BOOM free xp imagine being level twelve and never seeing actual combat imagine going on your first quest and you just blow everyone else out of the water because you're insanely overleveled. they're the rat grinders because they literally GRIND RATS. RATS. bahahahhahaha imagine being thrown into your first quest and it's something "suitable for your level" and you don't know anything about practical adventuring because all of your xp and so-called "experience" has come from killing beings lesser than you
