A central weakness of Mearsheimer and Walt’s case is the failure to account for why Israel attracted so much American support and solidarity in the first place. This couldn’t be attributed to the Israel lobby before it existed. They believe there are only three explanations for the United States’ support for Israel: the strategic value of the relationship, the “moral case” for defending the world’s only Jewish state, and the power of the Israel lobby. Much of their argument is focused on knocking down the first two explanations so that only the third is left standing. They believe the strategic and moral arguments are so weak that they cannot possibly explain the United States’ support for Israel, which leads them to drastically overstate the influence of the Israel lobby in shaping American public opinion. If Americans only understood the extent to which they are being deceived and manipulated, the argument goes, they would cease to support Israel as strongly as they do.
Mearsheimer and Walt are devotees of a school of thought in international relations called realism, which holds that states behave according to a single variable: the distribution of power in the international system. As Mearsheimer explains in his 2001 book The Tragedy of Great Power Politics, states aren’t motivated by ideology or other internal characteristics: “All great powers act according to the same logic regardless of their culture, political system, or who runs the government.” He and Walt seem to assume that all Americans share this mechanistic view of state behaviour, and if they say otherwise, they must have been fooled by political actors who place Israel’s interests above those of the US. Consequently, they downplay the significance of political beliefs, culture and history, and the importance of shared values and institutions to international alliances. Mearsheimer: Rigor or Reaction? What John J. Mearsheimer gets wrong about Ukraine, international affairs, and much else besides.QuilletteMatt Johnson
Realist logic dictates that a great power like the United States would never provide what Mearsheimer and Walt describe as “unconditional support” for Israel. They maintain that support on the basis of shared values or genuine solidarity is a myth and that every state relationship is simply an expedient transaction to be discarded the moment the strategic winds shift. According to realist logic, US support for Israel ought to have declined after the Cold War ended as Washington refocused its Middle East policy on maintaining a regional balance of power. Instead, Israel has remained the primary recipient of American military aid and diplomatic support in violation of realist assumptions about state behaviour.
This confounds realists like Mearsheimer and Walt, but they do not stop to reconsider their analysis of what motivates policymakers in the West. Instead, they argue that what they see as Israel’s negligible strategic value means that the United States’ commitment to Israeli security is a “liability rather than an asset”—a mistake to be corrected rather than a policy justified by other values. Something must therefore be causing the US to act in ways contrary to its own interests. And that something, they have decided, is the Israel lobby, the influence of which distorts the United States’ strategic decision-making.
Given the depth and consistency of the United States’ support for Israel, Mearsheimer and Walt must award the Israel lobby extraordinary power. For example, they assert that it was the “principal driving force” behind the invasion of Iraq in 2003. It would be one thing to observe that Israel supported the war or supplied faulty intelligence about Iraq’s WMD, but claiming that the war would not have happened but for the influence of the Israel lobby is absurd. The Bush administration made its own case for the invasion of Iraq and obtained the overwhelming support of Congress, not to mention the endorsement of 72 percent of Americans.
In The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy, the authors attempt to fend off allegations of antisemitism by declaring that they aren’t talking about a “cabal or conspiracy that ‘controls’ U.S. foreign policy.” They observe that the lobby is a “loose coalition” and not a “unified movement with a central leadership.” But these disclaimers do not alter the thrust of their argument—throughout the essay and the book, Mearsheimer and Walt refer to the Israel lobby as a single, amorphous entity that drives US foreign policy, manipulates public opinion, and punishes or even silences dissent.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries spoke at Al Sharpton’s National Action Network 2024 Convention, activists and organizers from Black Alliance for Peace and PSL disrupted the event. They denounced Jeffries and Sharpton as Black Misleaders, boldly proclaiming that the duo doesn’t represent the majority of Black/African people and instead provides a Blackface cover to U.S. imperialism. Jeffries received over $700,000 in Israel lobby funding in the last election cycle alone. Last year, Jeffries led a bipartisan Congressional delegation to the CARICOM Heads of Government Conference where NO HAITIANS were in the room as the the invasion and occupation of the country was planned. The collective liberation of Africa and Africans is not guaranteed without the liberation of Palestine, Haiti, or even the Borough of Brooklyn that Jeffries was elected to represent instead of approving more money to IOF-trained NYPD!

Emails and legal memos originating from a hack of the Israeli justice ministry show that officials feared that the country’s advocacy efforts in the US could trigger the US law governing foreign agents. The documents show that officials proposed creating a new American nonprofit in order to continue Israel’s activities in the US while avoiding scrutiny under the law. A legal strategy memo dated July 2018 noted that compliance with the Foreign Agents Registration Act (Fara) would damage the reputation of several American groups that receive funding and direction from Israel, and force them to meet onerous transparency requirements. A separate memo noted that donors would not want to fund groups registered under Fara. Fara requires people working on behalf of a foreign government to register as foreign agents with the US justice department. In listing reasons for avoiding Fara, the memo says that the law compels registrants to “flag any piece of ‘propaganda’ that is distributed to two or more parties in the US, with a disclaimer stating that it was delivered by a foreign agent and then submit a copy of the ‘propaganda’ to the US Department of Justice within 48 hours”. To prevent Fara registration, and the stigma and scrutiny associated with it, the legal advisers suggested channeling funds through a third-party American nonprofit. Liat Glazer, then a legal adviser to Israel’s ministry of strategic affairs, writes that even though the nonprofit would not be formally managed from Israel, “we will have means of supervision and management” – for example, through grant-making and “informal coordination mechanisms” including “oral meetings and updates”. The discussions around circumnavigating Fara focused on a “PR commando unit” formed by the strategic affairs ministry in 2017 to improve Israel’s image abroad. The group, a private-public partnership, was originally known as “Kela Shlomo” (which translates to “Solomon’s Sling”) before being rebranded as “Concert” in 2018 and “Voices of Israel” in 2021. Its initial mission was to undermine the BDS movement targeting Israel with boycott, divestment and sanctions campaigns in protest of its policies towards Palestinians.

I try to not pay one second of attention toward Zionist account during this on-going genocide because I know that at a time like this, wasting time arguing with trolls who desperately want to diverge everyone's attention from Israel's crimes and the death Palestinians to having childish online arguments.
But no matter how many years it pass, I still can't comprehend that till this day most Israelis believe that they're the real victims of what's going on and that they're totally alone against the entire world, even the most "moralist" of them will only go as far to say "fine! I guess both Israelis and Palestinians are equally victims here," but they will never for a second consider acknowledging that they're the complete oppressors who are committing every single crime known to man on Palestinians regularly for 75 years straight. In their mind, Palestinians (the ones whose corpses are being collected from the rubbles left of Israel's bombs) are the ones who want to commit a genocide and kill every Jew in the world, while they (the ones who are sending those bombs) are the ones who simply want to live in peace and don't want to kill anyone, but they have to because Palestinians forced them to do this.
Zionism is a legit mental illness that should be studied by psychologists for centuries to comes, there's absolutely no way a sane person can live in an ethno-settler-colony that deems them to be racially-superior to people of other races/religions and see thousands of the native people being regularly killed, tortured and raped so that they can live comfortably in their houses, then go online to talk about theirs life is in danger and everyone should feel sorry for them and if you don't believe that they're victims of what's going on then you're also an anti-Semite who want every Jew in the world dead.
Then again, having an unparalleled victim-complex might be crucial to maintaining a settler-colony, because a normal human being with a heart shouldn't be capable of witness everything that's happening in Palestine and attempt to make it about them/put the blame on anyone in existence except for Israel.
Anyways, they can cry that they're the victims in hell all all they want, but they're not leaving it no matter what.

So a handful of Republicans literally sent a letter to the ICC Prosecutor threatening the entire office AND their families if they (International Criminal Court) move forward with issuing arrest warrants for any member of Israel's government for war crimes. You know, cuz the US is the mafia now 🙄🤦 Considering the US and Israel are 2 countries who aren't members of the ICC (if that doesn't speak volumes) the warrants wouldn't be enforceable regardless but yah, let's make the US look like an even bigger pile of shit than they already do. If you dare try to prosecute war crimes...you've been warned (literally how the letter is worded). So embarrassed of this country that I'm at a loss for words. Just think for a minute what any sane, rational person would take from such a letter.

In an era of equal rights, some chose to go backwards...
Ahead of the vote, a group of 25 Senate Republicans introduced legislation — the No Official Palestine Entry (NOPE) Act — that would prevent US funding from going to the United Nations and other organizations that grant the Palestinians “any status, rights, or privileges beyond observer status.”
