Ethel Cain: "And so, you know, the Great Dark is not as bad as it sounds. So, on the flip side, we have the hole."
Tumblr media
Ethel Cain: “And so, you know, the Great Dark is not as bad as it sounds. So, on the flip side, we have the hole. Jokes aside, the hole is… I love to go there. I love to go whenever I joke with my friends and say, 'Oh, Winter’s coming. I’m going to throw blankets over the windows and go into the hole.’ You know, I’m in my hole. It’s what I always describe as being in this place of darkness and kind of despair, wallowing in self-pity, misery, you know, all those fun things, which I think is fine to go into from time to time as long as you’re not staying there. Which is why I’ve written, 'One can venture into the hole but will enter a perpetual sinking if one neglects to exit in time. They will enter the maze and become stuck forever.’
When you enter the hole, you are basically entering a period and a point of darkness, overwhelming darkness, which is fine. But when you’re in it, you will enter a state of perpetual sinking where you go deeper and deeper. You can never just remain where you are… You will go deeper and deeper. Darkness is inviting, and it will continue to pull you down. So you can go, and I think that there’s a lot to be found in the hole. There’s inspiration, there are answers to maybe the dark questions of yourself. 'What are you afraid of? Why are you afraid of it?’ You know, and I think that’s important to know about yourself. I think it’s an important place to go every now and then. I don’t think that you need to invite people to your pity party if you know that you’re throwing it. If it’s a conscious decision that you make to go into a dark place, like I choose to do often because I enjoy it, and I think that dark places are comforting sometimes to be in—a nest or a cave. Well, not a cave. I’m not a fan of caves, but you know, everybody has that place that they go in their head where they love to feel like bad. Sometimes you just want to feel bad. That sounds counterproductive, but you know that life isn’t about feeling good all the time. Sometimes you want to feel bad. You need to feel bad. Grieving and depression, all those places are kind of natural things that are okay to be in.”

Never Mind The Buzzcocks returns with Courtney Love and Joel Dommett
Noel Fielding will face off against his ex, Courtney Love, in the first episode of Sky Max's fourth series of Never Mind The Buzzcocks, with the Hole frontwoman joining host Greg Davies, regular Jamali Maddix, Joel Dommett, The Sex Pistols' bassist Glen Matlock and The Zutons' saxophonist Abi Harding for a special rock-themed episode, British Comedy Guide can exclusively reveal.
Airing on 16th October, the episode will be the first not to feature Daisy May Cooper as a team captain since Sky revived the music panel show in 2021. The This Country star is taking time off following the birth of her third child, though she is returning for a Christmas episode.
As BCG revealed in July, Sophie Willan is taking over the captaincy for a handful of episodes, while four more will feature guest captains, including Love for the Rock special, Mel B for one focused on the Nineties, The Gossip's Beth Ditto appearing on the Noughties instalment and Little Mix's Perrie Edwards taking over the chair for Buzzcocks Does... Girl and Boy Bands.
Other comics appearing across the series include Susan Wokoma, Joe Wilkinson, Lucy Beaumont and Julian Clary.
Love and Fielding briefly dated almost 20 years ago. In an interview with the Guardian earlier this month, Fielding said that in his hedonistic younger days, "partying with Kate Moss and Courtney Love, you've gone as far as you can go.
"A few friends ended up in rehab. I was sick of partying anyway and lucky enough to have my family at the right time. It was like: 'This is what I was looking for!'"
Speaking at the time of the fourth series' commission, Davies said: "I am genuinely thrilled to be returning to the mayhem of Buzzcocks but realistically who reads these press quotes and why? Watch the show please and in-between episodes get out into the air, talk to your partner, read to your children. Live, for God's sake live."

Sam: Dean, have you seen my copy of the greatest movie of all time?
Dean: 17 Again?
Sam: Yeah.
Dean: Pretty sure it fell in the hole.
Sam: What hole?-Oh my god! What is that?!
Dean: It’s a hole.
Sam: Yeah, I can see that. What’s it doing there?
Dean: Well, I woke up this morning…
(Dean takes a long sip of coffee)
Dean: Then there was a hole.
Sam: What are you gonna do about it?
Dean: Well, I put a rug over it…and it fell in the hole.
Sam: Should we call the police or something?
Dean: Oh yeah, I called the police.
Sam: Well, where are they?
Dean: They’re in the hole.
Sam: Where is your boyfriend?
Dean:
Sam: Dean, where is your boyfriend?!
Dean: He’s at work.
Sam: Oh. Where does he work?
Dean: In the hole.
Sam: God! How deep even is this thing?!
(Sam takes Dean’s coffee mug and drops it in the hole)
Dean: That was my favorite mug…now it’s in the hole.
Sam: Dean, do you even know what this is? Like for all we know it could be an inter-dimensional wormhole or a gateway to hell or…Dean?
(Dean disappears)
Sam: Dean?
(Sam looks down the hole)
Sam: DEAN!!!
(Dean then reappears)
Dean: Hey, what’s up I got a snack.
Sam: Dean, will you please take this seriously!
(A monstrous hand pops up from the hole and Dean immediately shoots it back down)
Sam:…What was that?!
Dean: Hole person.
Sam: Where did it come from?!
(Dean gives Sam an ‘where do you think’ look)
Sam:…Right! The hole! Yeah! Dude, why are you being so calm about this?!
Dean: I’m more worried about the space octopus…
Sam: What space octopus?!
(Dean points to a space octopus out the window)
Dean: That one.
