The Fallen TV Animation Empire
Chapter 1: The Rise of Television Animation with Saturday Morning Block
On August 18th, 2023 - I made a Post titled "The Summary of this whole current Debacles of Animation Industry" on this very Tumblr Page, @aniketsanimationblog, and you, animation fans, have expressed the concerns about What is Going on in The Global Animation Industry as a Whole, I am glad by that!! I am so thankful to those who expressed this concerns and realised that Animation is in Danger. Because, what happened in the Last Year, When Nickelodeon and Paramount+ Canceled and Removed Star Trek: Prodigy from their platforms at that time, until Netflix saved it to stream the entire Season 2 in one-go, just paint a big picture in the Animation Community. Last Year, Star Trek: Prodigy's Cancelation and Removal was not just the omission or abandonment of a Star Trek Show set in their universe or the best Star Trek Show in the Alex Kurtzman's Era of New Star Trek Shows, but also a big Massive Shocker of a Serialised Animated Kids' Show, that had a chance to become Nickelodeon's Next Avatar: The Last Airbender, betrayed by their own original Network, is like committing a Seppuku.
And it happened at the same time or before that incident, when most of the great Animated Series at the same time were Canceled/Canceled + Removed/Sabotaged by their respective Broadcasters, showing the Dismays of Fandoms of their respective shows. Now either only a handful of Good shows are left or there is nothing to watch at all, because of Kids TV Broadcasters' Greed and most notably Animation Community's Biasness towards Shows that, nowadays, have become a Money Generator, and no longer serving any good quality things to the fans, whatsoever, once they had in their prime, in the first place.
Now depending on who you may ask, "How did this Happen? What Happened to the Kids Television, once we used to love since our Childhoods, have gone in their Worst Phases now?"
Well, to understand why this happened, we need to go to the history of how this Kids TV Animation had started to build its Large Empire.
To understand the history of Kids TV Animation, we need to go back to where it all started. Since, it's a long history, and for context, The Kids TV Animation first started in the United States of America, as Hollywood were the only film industry to create Animation Renaissance from the big screens, they are also responsible for creating Majority of their Animations in the Small screens, we have to go back all the way to 1928. This is the year, when Walter Elias Disney, as we all know him as the legendary Pioneer and The Father of Animation, released his iconic Cartoon Character, Mickey Mouse's First Short film, "Steamboat Willie". At that time, "Steamboat Willie" was released over on Hollywood Theatres. But at the same time, there was an experiment happened at the small screens, aka The Television, with some limited animation cartoons appeared on TV with one of the images of "Felix The Cat". And remember, at that time, TV was available to some people who could afford TV, when majority of people weren't ready to switch from Traditional Radio. So, a handful of People watched that experiment going on.
Then some Animated TV movies happened like, "Willie The Worm" by Chad Grothkopf. It was an Eight-minute experimental TV Movie in Animated form.
But all changed in 1950s when, TV Animation started to broadcast like, "Crusader Rabbit" and "Colonel Bleep" etc.
But the First TV Animated Series came along, consisting of Animated Shorts, "Captain Kangaroo", by the Terrytoons, which is often referred to as, "One of the Finest Cartoons to ever produce on TV".
But the Cartoons, at that time, was seen primarily as "Children's Entertainment" by some Movie Exhibitors.
In 1954, Walt Disney capitalized on the Medium of Animation to Showcase on TV, with his weekly show, "Disneyland", which was broadcasted by US Terrestrial Channel, ABC, which expanded later to "Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color".
But as soon as Television popularized in the US, the people were slowly moving away from their traditional Radios and Movie Theatres, to the Compact form of Entertainment, Television. And thus, a new format was started to develop for TV Animation for Children, "The Saturday Morning Blocks", as the name suggests, the TV Animation would only be broadcasted on Saturday Mornings, because on Weekdays, The Kids are at their Schools, and on Sunday, With the American Football games clogging up the Sunday Schedules. At that time, there were no Cable systems, people were relying on Terrestrial Channels like ABC, CBS and NBC. And thus, American Children of that era were having a Ritual of watching Cartoons on Saturday Mornings.
And thus, some Television Animation Production Studios came afloat at the time. Such as, Filmation, Depatie-Freleng Enterprises, UPA Studios, Warner Brothers with their Merry Melodies, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios (MGM) with their first classic iteration of Tom & Jerry until it's collapse in 1957, Disney Studios, and the leader of all Studios, Hanna-Barbera Studios, by the Creators of Tom & Jerry, William Hanna and Joseph Barbera.
For the Starters, 1960s era was the era, when TV Animation boomed with mostly H-B Studios, "The Ruff & Reddy Show", then "The Huckleberry Hound Show", "The Yogi Bear Show" and most notably, "The Flinstones", which was like an Half-an-hour Animated Sitcom series, aired on ABC, which was their biggest successful show on Studio History, running for 6 years, alongside The Jetsons and Top Cat.
Hanna-Barbera had the common Trope used in most of their series, featuring atleast an Anthropomorphic Animal and a Child Character, up until they created "Scooby-Doo! Where are you?" in 1969 for CBS. Many incarnations of Scooby-Doo spawned for 17 seasons on CBS and then ABC, uninterruptedly with their new formula of A Group of Teens solving Supernatural mysteries or Fighting Crime. And they are the ones, who started with their Limited Animation Technologies at that time for Artistic Reasons.
Disney Studios had their fair share of Animated Shows, showcased on TV, most notably The Mickey Mouse shorts including characters from the Mickey Mouse Universe, as we all know today, and also "Winnie The Pooh".
The Studio still had a decent amount of TV Animated Series, even after Walt Disney's Demise on 15th December 1966.
At the time of 1960s, there were several Animation Artists, mostly Animators, that are still called Legendary/Veteran Artists, like Walt Disney, William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, Tex Avery, Chuck Jones, Gene Deitch, David H. Depatie, Friz Freleng, Don Bluth, to name a few.
But as Time went on, the Kids TV Animation was changed for a new era, that is beyond just only for "Saturday Mornings".
To be continued...
Next Post, Chapter 2: The Fall of Saturday Morning Cartoons and Rise of American Cable Television for Kids TV Animation.

For the WIP ask meme, I am curious about the premise of Thrift Shop Vikings!!
First things first, the project name is 'thrift shop vikings' because this has even less to do with historic vikings than the TV show "Vikings." The setting, however, and some of the (hopefully temporary) names have definitely be influenced by watching a little too much of "Vikings" and "The Last Kingdom."
This is about to turn into a multiple post excursion.
@hoochieblues and @motherofqups, you've also been subjected to my nonsense, so hop in! Let's go! It'll be an adventure!
Tumblr media
Here. Have a map to start with. I like maps. A love of maps is apparently, one of the peculiar common traits of my family which has been commented on by several in laws. No GPS, we navigate via geometric reasoning like men.
Tumblr media
Lets have some prosaic geographic and historic world-building because obviously, this is the most important part of developing an omegaverse story, because everyone reading that genre cares about coherent world-building.
Welcome to fantasy Europe. As you can see, we have what is definitely not the Mediterranean sea. Now, technically, this is post-apocalyptic, but post at least a millennium since the apocalypse in which highly developed tech savvy society (we shall call this Not!Atlantis) died of literal consumption, fueling various legends and mythologies. Major population bottle neck with various survivor groups essentially dumped back into Iron Age/Early Medieval tech levels. The knowledge loss/gap/etc was uneven, and aggravated by a lack of easily available fossil fuels and loss of the capacity to generate significant amounts of energy to restore an industrial society. Tech that doesn't require significant energy survived much better, so they haven't had to reinvent the wheel (or the printing press, or optics, or gunpowder, or clockwork, or even the basic idea of an engine, but you would have to be fabulously wealthy to access the last at a useful level). Ruins and some amount of historical records exist, etc. (I still do a lot of hand-waving.)
In the interim, several regional empires have risen and fallen, languages have changed enough that when records are recovered they are difficult to impossible to translate. There is also a 'gap' in the extant written records resulting from Not!Atlantis's digital age. The electronic records didn't make it.
Not!Atlantis is actually relevant. I promise.
The deep lore explanation for the omegaverse tropes is gene editing gone horribly wrong in an attempt to address a fertility crisis. Now, obviously, with the number of generations in between the immediate post-apocalypse the regionally separated population groups have formed their own mythologies (as gene editing as a concept would be unthinkable within three generations, if I had to guess). There is a general consensus that the 'hybrid' (for lack of a better word) sexes are created, rather than entirely nature, and distinctly human as one does not observe in a similar crossing of phenotype and reproductive function among animal populations. Evyn, the main Ω character and resident sarcastic nerd, will deadpan that he's a creature of artifice before launching into a lecture on cross-cultural variation of mythology and social constructions regarding omegas.
[Disclaimer: CRISPR is probably too precise for anything to go wrong on this degree. But my thoughts on benefits versus harm of gene editing and international conglomerates like Monsatan (yes, that spelling is deliberate, and yes, I know it's Bayer, not Monsanto) belong in a different post.]
On to the erotica tropes!
Main feature of the alpha/omega sub-types is hyper-fertility, although limited by reproductive cycles, aka the heat/rut cycles. Because if I'm not keeping those, why am I writing this trope? (A good question in general.) I've kept 'betas' as the 'norm' and by far the vast majority of the population. Whatever Not!Atlantis did to precipitate it's fertility crisis has lingered, and left to their own devices, the betas wouldn't quite manage a replacement rate. (Whatever genes are connected with 'beta-ness' are dominant however.)
Female omegas and male alphas are effectively indistinguishable from betas with the exception of the above mating cycles. There are, of course, layers and layers and layers of gender construction imposed on top of physical differences. So, do alphas tend to a higher level of aggression because of nature? Or nurture? Who knows?
The rare male omegas and female alphas (I think I've decided on averages of 1 in 200 live births and 1 in 400 respectively), are subject to even higher degrees of social control, while again being mindful of the fact that different population groups will have evolved social roles and means. In many cases, especially in more remote areas where there greater social devolution, they've become strongly associated with liminality and given spiritual significance. Other places, the main significance of a male omega (they can be identified with certainty at birth) is more functional 'gotta get fertility above replacement rates' and ranges from a very Roman Empire under Augustus 'we really don't care what you do as long as it involves making children as well' to very high levels of control and seclusion (think upper class Greek women in antiquity) because they're valuable units of economic exchange.
As a general rule, no one knows what the hell to do with female alphas due to the combination of rarity, lack of identification until adolescence, and good old fashioned toxic masculinity because not only is this chick another competitor, but hypothetically a competitor who is extra appealing because they 'know what women want.' The more things change the more they stay the same.
I kept the trope scent-thing, mating bonds, and psychic(?) attunement between 'mated' pairs. Why? It pleased me to do so. Also creates some fun talking past each other between two leads where one is extremely superstitious, obviously it's magic/spiritual/religious and the other is hyper-rational, obviously there is a physical mechanism that we simply don't understand.
Recognizing that none of the above addresses the actual question of the plot premise, I am pausing because it has passed 1000 words. Plot and character notes shall follow. ;) After I make lunch.
[Shout out to my brother, who has patiently let me bounce world-building ideas off him even though the omegaverse trope leaves him going, 'WTF? Why?!' There are many advantages to having a little brother with an engineering degree.]

The Byronic Hero Bracket: Qualifying Round Batch D #13
Trafalgar Law from One Piece vs. Zelgadis Graywords from Slayers
Tumblr media
Reasons under the cut (spoilers for both)
(All sources from TV Tropes)
Trafalgar Law:
Trafalgar Law from One Piece. He is very attractive when compared to most other One Piece characters, with more distinguished facial features like Shanks and Robin. He boasts enough charisma to gather a crew with 20 members. He is intelligent and cunning, having devised a plan over 13 years to bring down Doflamingo's empire and hamper an Emperor's plan to increase his power. He has experienced two great losses in his life: first his family, friends, and homeland of Flevance, then the father-figure to whom he owes his life. Eventually, everything adds up to him being able to avenge his fallen hero (with Luffy's help) and also have enough determination go on living afterwards.
Zelgadis Graywords:
Zelgadis Graywords from Slayers, more so in the anime than in the novels. His absolutely undeterred lifelong quest for a cure that could turn his chimeric body back into its former human state fits this trope, and toss in the fact that it was his own great-grandfather that did it.

As we approach the end of Star Wars: The Bad Batch, everything is coming together for what looks like a jailbreak from Mount Tantiss. Will everyone make it?
We’ve managed to skate through three seasons with really only losing Tech (it was devastating), but nobody else of any stature has fallen in the battle with the Empire. With only two episodes remaining in the entire show, are they going to break our hearts?
It’s hard to know, and I really hope we don’t lose anybody else… At least, not from the main cast. I think they’ve done a really good job of putting everybody in danger but not to the point where we’re going to lose somebody. Obviously, that could change very quickly over these next two episodes as the Batch heads to Mount Tantiss to try to rescue Omega.
Getting Echo back on the show was terrific, and I’m assuming we’ll get Rex and Co. showing up in the finale. I’m ready.
One thing that I really liked in this episode is that Omega is not just sitting around waiting for Hunter, Wrecker, and Crosshair to come rescue her. She’s actively looking for a way to escape, and she’s made it clear that she wants to bring all of the other kids locked in The Vault to safety. She’s a hero. She’s the hero that we need.
There are two episodes left of The Bad Batch. They’ve taken a show that I didn’t understand why they were making it when it was announced and have made a terrific animated show for Star Wars. Stay strong, Batchers.

hi! ik you’re probably busy and stuff so don’t sweat it if you can’t answer, but i recently read your star wars warrior nun au, and i absolutely loved it. i haven’t watched the movies and stuff in a suuuuuper long time, and your fic really brought that love back, and i was wondering if you would be able to tell me what order i should watch things or which books to read and stuff? again, dw if you can’t respond!
oh! i can absolutely do that. keep in mind that this is going to be my own personal watch order based on how canon works best and resonates thematically for me 🥰 i’ll just make a list i think.
you will notice that i’m not going to say that you should watch things in order. frankly, i don’t think that’s the best star wars experience, but! there should be loads of articles online detailing how to watch chronologically if you decide to do that.
anyway, here we go!
1. the original three! that’s A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. i really truly think that this is the best starting point even on rewatch. just… something about having this as the centrepiece works so well. everything else orbits it and contextualises (and recontextualises) it.
2. the prequels, starting with The Phantom Menace. the prequels are a tragedy 🙂 yes, a very fun tragedy with my best boy obi-wan at centre stage, but it works because you’ve seen the original trilogy and you know what’s going to happen but you’re transfixed by it anyway, by the fire as it eats at the fabric of the story.
3. at this point, you can watch The Clone Wars (the animated move & series) if that’s your jam. i haven’t seen those but i’ve heard incredible things about them. (if anyone wants to chime in on where they think TCW fits in here, that’d be appreciated!)
HOWEVER where i tend to go next is the Kenobi series! it’s perfectly poised between the prequels and the originals. plus i really loved it 😌
4. then Andor. good god. it’s a masterpiece. there’s a second season coming, but it flows beautifully into
5. rogue one. my personal favourite star wars movie. it’s just… stunning, beautiful, tragic. in the timeline it fits between Andor and A New Hope.
6. i really recommend either playing or (if that’s not your thing) watching a youtube playthrough (i recommend no commentary, but that’s up to you) of Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor. my fic is based on these games, but very, very loosely; you won’t be spoiled for Luminous Beings by watching this. there’s a great book set between the two games called Battle Scars. it’s a lot of fun.
7. then the Rebels tv show followed by the new show, Ahsoka!! Rebels is wonderful (i am only halfway through) and i’m gleefully intrigued by what i’m seeing of the Ahsoka show so far. i definitely would recommend also watching The Clone Wars before this, because it sets up Ahsoka’s character!
8. the mandilorian is really good! it’s set after the originals but before the… sequels. might as well address those 😔
8. the sequels - starting with The Force Awakens (a Good movie, actually) - are… complicated to me. i loved the promise of the first one but the others REALLY let me down. the last two are decent action movies with some good characters (finn’s plotline in the second movie is genuinely really good, just too sidelined for my liking. they could have done so much more). basically, you can watch them, and i think you SHOULD watch The Force Awakens, but as star wars movies the last two i… really don’t like.
(there’s a ton of canon games and books and tv shows i’m forgetting after this, but i’d say for me personally this is the structure and the star wars stuff that i really like to revisit over and over. Knights of the Old Republic is an amazing, if old, video game set waaaaay back before the prequels. it’s great if you like viddy games)
i appreciate the faith in my opinion 🥰 and the love for Luminous Beings. i hope this is helpful!

hi, I never grew up with star wars and am just now getting into it and I absolutely adore it, but man is there so much content to sift through! I’ve gotten through all the movies and plan on jumping to the clone wars show, but aside from those, what book series/comics/games would be recommendable to get into?
sure! I'll try to give you the easiest path into extended content i can:
you should totally follow up with rebels the tv show after watching the clone wars, since it follows up a lot of the storylines and it's plain good in my opinion. there's also the tales of the Jedi miniseries which is basically the clone wars' extended content. then if you're still feeling like watching some animation I'd say you check out resistance! it's not as meaty as tcw and rebels, but it's fun and it expands of sequels lore. i can't stop recommending andor too. very well crafted political thriller with some real interesting insight on the workings of the empire. if you feel like it, watch the Mandalorian. i can't say i completely enjoy it post season 1, but it is currently the biggest star wars thing out there, and it does continue on some threads left in rebels, albeit not very interestingly.
in regards to comics and books, the marvel star wars launches are the safest bet. the mainline star wars comic starts right after the end of a new hope, following Luke, Leia and han. and continues on while mixing with other stories of the period. Vader is really good, too, with one if my favorite writers working on it. also check out doctor aphra, my favorite current star wars comic.
books wise, there are a ton of tie in novels out there. there's rogue one tie ins, sequel tie ins, leía focused books, you take your pick. I'm not particularly fond of many sw books, if I'm being honest, but the high republic line is very fun and interesting. i do adore the return of the sith novelization, though. here's a Goodreads list with all the canon books. if you see something that strikes your fancy, you can check it out
as far as video games go, in so far in the current canon we only have Jedi Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor (which just came out lol.) i enjoyed fallen order well enough, has some really compelling characters.
if you eventually wanna explore further than that, i can give you recommendations on legends stuff, but if you're just getting started I'd say you stick to the current "Disney era" canon, since it's only slightly less confusing

Silly Game Time! Who are some of your favorite fighter characters? And what do you like about them?:D
A Preface: I'm a martial artist (IV Dan in Taekwon-Do, been doing it for over 25 years). Ergo, there are few things I love more than a good, realistic fight scene featuring competent fighters (within the rules of the universe, of course--"realism" looks different in a universe where people routinely shoot fireballs out of their hands or can jump 50 feet). The keywords there are "good", "realistic", and "competent" (double points for consistenty in the fighter's style, thus making it part of their characterization). Because I also have *extremely* high standards, since I understand what makes these things good and cometent (and consistent) and especially realistic in the real world. Having a good imagination means I can extrapolate that into a universe with expanded abilities (magic and so forth).
ANYWAY ...
From books, I'm a fan of Wayne from Sanderson's "Mistborn" series. The man has only two powers: Time Acceleration (in limited bubbles) and a Healing Factor (until he runs out). But he uses those so creatively and fearlessly to be an incredibly adept brawler who dual-weilds wooden canes to devastating effect. Plus, he's a cheeky scoundrel, and I always have a soft spot for them. He also is a kleptomaniac with a fixation on hats.
Tumblr media
Also, Aximili-Esgarrouth-Isthill (Ax for short) from "The Animorphs" series. Despite being able to shapeshift into any animal he has the chance to physically touch, he does most of his fighting in his natural, Andalite form *and* unarmed. By the end of the series, dude muse be quite the skilled combatant by his people's standards. I also find him rather endearing, being the only alien teenager amongst a group of Human teenagers, and apparently the equivalent of a football jock now forced to be the smart guy.
Tumblr media
From TV shows, I'll go with ... the titular character of the beautifully artistic show "Samurai Jack" (even if the last, resumed season left much to be desired, storywise). He's an idealistic paragon. He's a man of few words. He's a stoic vagabond. He tries to always be courteous despite having no clue what's going on most of the time. He strips down to his loincloth unnecessarily like he's got an exhibitionist fixation in, like, every episode. He loves the natural world. He's the greatest swordsman who has ever lived.
Tumblr media
Aslo, Ser Jorah Mormont from "A Game of Thrones" (who Iain Glen performs magnificently). He's basically a sensible mercenary who becomes dedicated to the cause of the young, exiled, dragon-mothering princess Daenerys Targaryen out of love (a bit meh, a bit yuck, but fine) and as part of a quest for redepmtion. Why? She's a charismatic leader who seems for a long time to be genuinely dedicated to the cause of building a better, more just world. He's not the best fighter nor strategist in the world, but he's damned good at both.
Tumblr media
For games, there's Cal Kestis from the games "Jedi: Fallen Order" and "Jedi: Survivor". He's one of the few Jedi still alive, and he has to reconnect with the Force and his training because he cut himself off from it to hide from the Empire. But he wasn't some master; no, he was just a young apprentice when all that happened, so there's a lot lacking in his skillsets, technique, and Force power. Besides which, he never feels invulnerable (which is refreshing for Star Wars protagonists, and also something that being a video game character makes the audience feel much more viscerally). He's earnest and his best friend is a cute, little droid he would die for. He has guilt and doubt and spite and darkness in him that he has to fight. He's so fashionable with his customizable clothing (you can make him so damn pretty in pink!).
Tumblr media
And for movies, there's whoever the heck Jackie Chan's character is. Now, normally, being typecast is considered a bad thing for an actor. HOWEVER, when one finds their niche, they'd be a fool not to stick with it. For example, Sandra Bullock is the best career-driven woman who needs to learn to have fun and let love into her heart; Kelsey Grammer is the best out-of-touch, high cultured snob who is really witty but also becomes the butt of most situations due to his own arrogance; and Jackie Chan is, hands down, the best friendly guy who is also an acrobatic, martial arts master for reasons whose fights almost always become inadvertantly comedic. It makes him a delight to watch.

What Is The Kantriverse?
The Kantriverse is a setting that started out when I created a fictional country, Kantrias, and alongside a number of friends that I had, in intermittent periods between 2012 and 2014, with a brief resurgence in 2017, expanded on. We also used Kantrias as a vehicle for playing in the game NationStates, as a sort of 'clan' (in more common terms) but it is the fictional country Kantrias (and the continent of Bayetz around it) that we built up in stories and little bits of lore detail and conversations and just for fun that I would later take, combine with pieces of other worldbuilding ideas that I had, and then create into a more complete setting that I could tell stories in.
And also just worldbuild the fuck out of, because I like to do that.
As a result of the mixed origins, and many holdovers from the days when I worked alongside my friends to create things, there are some oddities, but I think they add to the charm of the setting.
Some of those oddities include the fact that because a few of my friends at the time were big Game of Thrones/ASOIAF fans, the places they created had names in common with Westeros - a city called Highgarden, and a set if Islands called the Iron Islands. Neither place really resembles it's Westeros counterpart outside the name, and both names are pretty generic.
Other things - such as the existence of the Genasi in Kolyat-Var, are the result of my own D&D and Pathfinder interest - and in general, while some of the more obvious stuff has been filed off, the D&D and Pathfinder influence can be pretty obvious if you know what you're looking for, and indeed, I have run multiple pathfinder games in this setting, though I've had to make some alterations to the setting to fit the assumptions of Pathfinder's actual play.
But none of this really says what the Kantriverse actually is.
The Kantriverse is a fictional world - the name of the planet is something I don't have, and frankly the people of the world may just call it 'the planet' because why not - and plays host to a number of continents. The three that have ever been established are Bayetz, Guayas and Kholesun. Of those Bayetz is the center of the action in terms of what got and has gotten worldbuilding attention, and of course, the Kingdom of Kantrias and it's capital city, also named Kantrias, was the main focus.
The Kantriverse is a world of magic, but the magic tends to be fairly practical, and direct, and follows generally predictable and understandable rules - to put it in TV tropes terms, Magic A is, broadly speaking, Magic A. Of course, the rules underpinning magic are no more one hundred percent understood than every single rule explaining how reality works in our world, but they are understood mostly.
It is a world where magic can do a lot, but it's generally direct, perceivable, limited effects. It's a world that, broadly, works like our own - gravity, animal life, the way minerals work, et cetera - but it's also a world where dragons once dominated the skies, where caverns and tunnels deep underneath the earth house entire peoples and nations, and where the gods - distant though they often are - are real and give power to their followers.
It is a world of powerful states, fallen empires, and rising powers. It is a world where empires that were once great have been laid low - and sometimes, they might even be making a resurgence. It's a world not just of humans, but of centaurs, dwarves, lizardmen, kitsune, and more.
It is a world where demons and angels exist and can be conjured, but as beings that are pure ideals given form - and quickly find themselves ill-at-ease in a world of grays and nuance, complexity and imperfection. It is a world of spirits often barely understood, and ancient magics even less understood, if even active at al.
It is also a world where ranks of soldiers stand shoulder to shoulder and fire muskets at the enemy. Where ships bearing canon and powered by sails clash for control of the trade lanes, and where airships have begun to challenge the great Rocs for command of the skies. It is a world where new factories powered by coal and magic, structures of steam and gears and pistols, churn out white and black smoke, covering the sky, bringing with it it disease and progress, poverty and wealth. It is a world where clockwork constructs and old style golems can be built to fight the battles of their makers, and where bizarre, occult secrets that break all known rules of magic can sometimes be wrested from reality.
It is in this world that Kantrias sits as the most powerful and wealthy nation. It is in Kantrias that the House of Quilor reigns as the Royal House, where the ancient nobility jealously guards their remaining wealth and privelages in the Senate, and where the elected representatives of the people in the Consistory are torn between those who seek progress and growth and wealth at the expense of all else, and those who seek to see to the needs of the people. Between those who speak only for the narrow interests of new money, and those who speak for the workers, urban or rural, or for the middle classes.
It is in Kantrias that Church and Crown have fought a vicious dance for over a thousand years, where the pagans are persecuted, but not every faith that lies outside the Church counts as pagan. Where renegade covens of witches are hunted by the Ministry of Security and the Inquisition both - but rarely do they work together.
And yet, despite Kantrias's wealth and power, it is not unchallenged on the world stage. The Empire of Voluz, once the great powers of the North, seeks to modernize under a new, reforming dynasty, while the ancient, stagnated Telvir Ascendancy threatens to dust off ancient magics and embrace new technologies both, to stave off the corrupting influence of Kantrian ideas - and of Kantrian influence over states that should rightly be their vassals.
Even Kantrias's allies are hardly content to be merely aids to Kantrian power - the snakemen of the Kingdom of Kharash may be allied with Kantrias against their old enemies in the Ascendancy, but they look in askance as Kantrias courts the lesser states of Guayas to be their vassals in all but name, rather than Kharash's. The Commonwealth of Aurelia may consider Kantrias the lesser evil than Voluz, but the economic hegemony of the Kingdom of the Gavel and the Sword is hardly universally beloved by that realm.
Kantrias is a nation of wealth and power, and for the average Kantrian, even the poor ones, life is generally good, generally safe, generally positive in outlook. But in any great Kingdom, exceptions exist, and with wealth and industry allowed to run amock in the name of the Queen's desire for military adventurism, and with wealth always begetting more wealth when left unrestrained, and when heretics and pagans join forces with disaffected witches and separatist rebels, danger can only grow.
The Kantriverse is a world of steampunk, intrigue and empire - it is a world of war and adventure, of ancient history and a glorious future.
The world turns, Kantrias is, and the Kantriverse continues.
