Each of us is, as it were, circumscribed by many circles; some of which are less, but others larger, and some comprehend, but others are comprehended, according to the different and unequal habitudes with respect to each other.
For the first, indeed, and most proximate circle is that which everyone describes about his own mind as a centre, in which circle the body, and whatever is assumed for the sake of the body, are comprehended … The second from this, and which is at a greater distance from the centre, but comprehends the first circle, is that in which parents, brothers, wife, and children are arranged. The third circle from the centre is that which contains uncles and aunts, grandfathers and grandmothers, and the children of brothers and sisters … Next to this is that which contains the common people, then that which comprehends those of the same tribe, afterwards that which contains the citizens; and then two other circles follow, one being the circle of those that dwell in the vicinity of the city, and the other, of those of the same province. But the outermost and greatest circle, and which comprehends all the other circles, is that of the whole human race … it is the province of him who strives to conduct himself properly in each of these connections to collect, in a certain respect, the circles, as it were, to one centre, and always to endeavour earnestly to transfer himself from the comprehending circles to the several particulars which they comprehend.
It is requisite, likewise, to add a proper measure conformably to the general use of appellations, calling indeed cousins, uncles and aunts, by the name of brothers, fathers and mothers; but of other kindred, to denominate some uncles, others the children of brothers or sisters, and others cousins, according to the difference of age, for the sake of the abundant extension which there is in names. For this mode of appellation will be no obscure indication of our sedulous attention to each of these relatives; and at the same time will incite, and extend us in a greater degree, to the contraction as it were of the above mentioned circles.
—Hierocles (Ἱεροκλῆς), The Elements of Ethics (Ἠθικὴ στοιχείωσις)(c 150 BCE). Below: a graphic presentation of the concentric system of relationship circles in Hierocles' theory of οἰκείωσις. :: [Robert Scott Horton]

Listening to The Well of Ascension:
Vin: Oh no, Elend saw me go full mistborn rager and kill 6 people! Hes going to think I'm disgusting and realize I'm not good enough for him. I have to pull away because he can't possibly want me, he just wants a mistborn knife.
Meanwhile, Elend: Oh my god. My girlfriend is so competent and effective and powerful! How could somebody like her ever love an incompetent idiot like me. I failed to keep my throne despite my best effort. How could she not react to that monumental failure? That must be why she is pulling away from me.
Me:....🤦♂️
#mistborn#mistborn era 1#mistborn era 1 spoilers#the well of ascension spoilers#vin#elend venture#if you caught the rager reference to gregor the overlander#high5 my collins fans#i did not know what I was getting into when i read that book#10/10 would recommend as a way to introduce kids to the horror of war#it was not a comfortable read for little me#but I still think about it when I think about the ethics of violence#anyway#not even brandon can get me to enjoy the tension of self distructive behavior in a relationship plots#i know its very realistic and it would feel weird for either of them to be perfect at relationshiping#its just never going to be a plot element that I seek out#my thoughts#talking to the void

something I wasn’t expecting was the kinds of halakhic questions that get asked here. Stuff like “can you not eat chicken with eggs just like beef and milk” and “can you have nondairy cheese with meat” are both so obvious to me that I never even thought of them. Makes you realize how differently some people think of these things
#judaism#jumblr#frumblr#Yes this is a massive t4#Interesting how both are about meat and milk#Probably because the wording in the pasuk makes it sound like there’s an ethical element that mechanically doesn’t exist

If a robots concious were to be [consentually or non consentually] transferred to an organic body do you think they would be horrified at a vessel that is uncontrollably ever growing and changing even in the smallest ways. Because i do
#noodle talks#not art#conversely. imagine the horror of being transferred to a body that is forever stagnant and instead of growing only degrades. im insane#the idea of a robot's brain who has lived in a mechanical body being put in an organic one with a focus on the body horror element-#-scratches an itch in my brain that i did not know i had#especially if its done with no concern for the robot itself and is done as a “lets see what happens” type thing#<- that adds another layer of ethical discussion that could happen in this hypothetical thing#also what would happen to the intial owner of the body#would they switch places.. or would the body be dead already and get reanimated somehow for use#ouhh im insane.#by the way i got this idea while the movie Robots was playing in the background [i was playing proseka]#do not let me watch kids movies <- /j#i dont think im going to do much with this but its an interesting idea#oh also. robot dealing with human injury.#you cant just get repairs. you have to watch your body seal itself back up. and it might not even go away fully [scars]#sickness and infections would probably be an even worse concept to deal with#also this idea is based off of if the robot was not educated of an organic body before this

i feel like theres often a lot of good points made about purity culture (real purity culture do not come at me with shipping bullshit rn), work ethic, and attitudes towards sex, but theyre made by people who dont understand what religions believe or are. 'this is so puritan fundamentalist protestant catholic mormon 😥' just shoot me.
#this isnt to say that you cant criticise religion or its effects on society#but if op says prostestant the reblog says mormon and the top reply is 'catholic guilt' we have LOST THE PLOT#that shit is NOT critical analysis of what religions teach or how they operate its just blasting whoever hurt you the most#and thats what it is! ive seen really good takes from people from other religions about how religious control operates#in real life at least#but at some point you are either: naming an element of any political/social/religious control that is way more prevalent than...#... just in christianity. naming the wrong branch of christianity because what the fuck is the catholic work ethic.#or you mean something WAY more specific ('sex-negative.' 'authoritarian.' 'privileged.') but decide to call it...#... a religious thing for engagement bait and to get other exchristians on yr side

being a busy ass student with student journalism gigs on one hand and comm academic shit on the other is very interesting because with the jam-packed life I live I only really get to breathe at like late lAAATE night when no one can bother me about my responsibilities other than myself. that being said that's also when creative brain goes into overdrive and now misfits finally has the final draft of its opening number woo
#so heres the thing kasi the opening number of that damn project hAS BEEN THE HARDEST TO WRITE#i believe at this point there had been morethan 10 drafts gjdjd because like heres the thing with that number specifically#misfits is a fourth wall breaky show within a show and the 5 narrators (and 1 misfit which i'll get to in a bit) knowingly perform#to appease the audience. hence the opening number throughout the years has reflected that - a performance that breaks the barrier between#audience and stage. even when misfits wasnt a show withjn a show concept this had always been the general treatment so that the audience#actually GETS whats happening - but i always come to changing it because well i also wanted to add foreshadowing factors: somehing that#suggests that the show isn't actually all that it seems. previous drafts had this show through the typical Tagalog - Real#and English - Scripted element in the show - language being used to determine authenticity. however that begs the question of how to#properly utilize the Misfits in the opening number - given that two of them dont know about the Show while the other is confused#and then at 2 am i remembered Hermes from Hadestown and boop a lightning bulb#instead of opting for opening numbers that had hints of sabotage or theatrical malfunctions that suggests that the show is Not What It Seems#i thought - why not have it 'malfunction' at the start and have it introduce the wrong character first 5 minutes before the Narrators come#so basically after the Producers (represented through um P.A. voices smth like that) welcome everyone - what is supposed to be the#introduction of the Narrators first ends up as the introduction of the 3rd Misfit (Zeke - 18 - nb) who appears genuinely lost#they appear genuinely in distress though they keep themselves composed at the realization that they are facing an Audience#and they Know this because he was formerly a Narrator as well - though at this point in the story nobody (bar one) knows that#they decide to take their time in chatting with the audience while charming them using their old Narrator tactics in order to get a grip on#whats going on - being a first step towards how involved the audience will be in the story as Zeke then goes to question them outwardly on#the morals of the story they expect and whether it is ethical to have children forcibly conform to religion in the first place#but they do so in an entertaining Bo Burnham manner - a way that doesnt catch people off guard until They Want To - because ayun he#plays by the rules of the show#this doesnt seem like the 'opening number' yet does it but im getting there fjd because once they sense that the narrators will be on stage#as a memento they teach them to sing a melody that will serve as Zeke's motif - something that will eventually scare the lead Narrator and#the Producers - because whenever the motif is sung it means that someone has Broken a Significant Part of the show#especially since the Motif was um lets say its from a now defunct show the Producers and Zeke and the Lead Narrator used to have#that melody will then be subtly present throughout the entire opening number of the Narrators - which will then be played straight#but with the Misfits make their pre-official-introduction appearances by forming the bridge of the opener using the Motif#thats when we learn of the show being compromised from the very start - especially with the lyrics of the motif expressing doubt in faith#personal shit (ran out of tags whoops but um yea basically its Have The Audience Have A Hint to Whats Going On Through Recognizable Motifs)#(also the motif the audience learns is a melody - Zeke (and the lead narrator) changes the lyrics as they go) (also sorry for the ramble)

We're babysitting my little cousins this weekend (ages 8 and 5), and I am so very grateful for growing up in the early 2000s, because I only had severely restricted access to the internet until I was 12, and the most fucked up thing I did was playing cult with my (of-brand) barbies. I made potions with leaves and flowers and burried little toy figurines in the sandbox, like a normal child.
I did not make anyone around me wonder why the hell is my 5yo cousin clutching a plushie of a character from the "human experiments on orphans" game, who a) is an orphan who was experimented on and b) gets torn in half and then canibalized alive by other human experiment orphans within that game, ya know.
#rant#anti mascot horror#like I enjoy it personally but I'm 22 and I was like 14 when I first discovered it#and the ethics of having something so fucked up be so outwardly child friendly are... questionable to say the least#nothing makes you question mascot horror like putting that into words#like is this really something that should have plushes of all things as merch?#like jesus fucking christ#poppy playtime isn't even subtle about the fucked up elements#like fnaf at least doesn't really involve the lore in the gameplay#I mean I know kids in my generation were obsessed with like creepypastas and shit#but that stuff didn't really have merch available in your local toy store#my brother had a fnaf phase when he was like 10#but that was before the merch was really available#and there was no internet savvy grown up to have an existential crisis about it#my mom doesn't know the mangle plushie she bought my little sister years ago is fueled by the lifeforce of a murdered child#(and honestly its biggest problem is that it looks silly AF)#and she doesn't know the plushie my little cousin brough with him is an orphan who was converted into a toy and then canibalized#but I do#and I hate it

#Eugenics two#Reading about eugenics produces one thought above all ''what the fuck''#Like. Moral/ethical shit aside. Which is a lot I don't wanna downplay how much that is but it's also the most obvious#There's just. So much that's just like why are we even talking about this. I am beginning to think ''terminally online'' is a useless phras#Because these fuckin scientists who probably lived prior to the computer sound like Tumblr users. So what I'm saying is discourse has alway#Existed (obviously) and has always had ridiculous or fucking nuts elements. What the hell. These quotes just#Immediate thoughts are like 1. You're a horrible person who assumes their doing society a service which is. Horrifying. 2. Do you talk to#People who aren't in your weird circle of eugenicists or is it an echo chamber because. How the fuck did you get here#''playing god is good actually'' do you think twice before you speak/write. Because What.#Cosmo Wanda I wish we all go to hell no matter what.

You know a world where your ability to carry something is determined by quantity rather than size or weight is very easy to accept in a video game, because of mechanical convenience, but would probably be so strange in a story in any other medium, and I think a few more books and shows could stand to get a little funkier with the fundamentals of their reality like that.
#just casually make a setting that functions different on a fundamental level#this is genuinely my favourite thing about minecraft fics is the absolutely alien setting#that gets treated very casually and with a 'thats just how the world works' mentality#people can exist in multiple worlds and the code that makes them them can be accessed and casually altered#and no one has any ethical problems with admins doing so#there is a clear and defined divide between players and mobs on all levels except emotional#but also players treat their own body as a toy the change and throw around because death means nothing#minecrafts a good one for it because the game has zero story its just a playground for creativity#but i think about final fantasy where entire skillsets are contained in some item or clothing and swapped between#or gta where it costs money to come back to life#theres plenty of media that explores the idea of lives or retries as a mechanic and a story element#but what about the fact that man made objects being and inherent part of the reality to where#a fundamental function such as peoples lives can be restored by paying money#not in a theres a god of greed sense but in a thats just how reality works#a lot of these things get placed on a godlike being when they do pop up and i think thats the boring route#let your setting just function different beyond magic being present#have the characters world and thus mindset be alien

Still thinking about Quinton Reviews being a McLennon believer of some sort and imagining him doing a deep dive
#i think he'd steer away from trying to 'prove' anything beyond a general romantic element but still give his personal take/theory#and then have several ethical crises over it#also maybe he gets the AKOM ladies or some other guest with him

tbh after watching teen wolf I'm thinking about changing my vampire hunter!Eddie wip to have the 118 be werewolves instead hmmmm
#look vampires are SUPER sexy do not get me wrong#but I couldn't stop thinking about the ethical dilemmas inherently involved in sucking other people's blood#and it was kind of harshing my vibe#my post#idk let me know if ur interested in that??#I know some people liked the vampire element#but the story was more so about eddie being a hunter than everyone being vampires#so the core of it really hasn't changed

RUSSELL CROWE on playing hando in romper stomper "I've never been a tertiary educated performer. Acting is an instinctive talent. You can do it or you can't do it. But what I do with the preparation is - it's like a detail thing. I could stand up and do a character like that on two minutes notice. You do that sort of thing in an audition where you indicate how far you can go in various areas. But then there's preparation to me. One, it's not hard work because I enjoy it and I elect to do it myself. And two, the benefits are obvious when you see your work because you've gone further and further. You've taken that what is that initial instinct and taken it so far down the track, because you've kept yourself focused on what these people are and what they do or what the psychology is. And at the same time as doing all that research... Hando is a very strong man.So there was a physical training aspect that is added. I went from doing 'Love in Limbo' playing this sedentary office type, Arthur Baskin, and then Hando in the blink of an eye. I wasn't working out at the gym when I was playing Arthur. I hate the goddamn gym. I only go there if I have to because it's for work. [laughs]"
#russell crowe#russellcroweedit#croweedit#crowedit#gilles gifs#i like seeing young rusty talking about his work ethics#it is very amusing#and at the same time there's some elements that he still does#like he mentions that for this role he read mein k*mpf and read stuff about serial killers and attended football matches in the uk#and then im reminded of how he studied the brick for les mis and for robin hood just bought Every Single Book on robin hood#and read them all on a boat in northern queensland#he just wants to read#let him read#let him do his silly little research

"Unveiling the Depths of the Soul: A Profound Exploration of 'Jane Eyre: An Autobiography' by Charlotte Brontë"
Charlotte Brontë's "Jane Eyre: An Autobiography" is an enduring literary masterpiece that transcends the boundaries of time and genre. As I immersed myself in the hauntingly beautiful narrative, I was captivated by Brontë's ability to craft a compelling story that delves into the complexities of love, identity, and societal expectations.
The title itself, "Jane Eyre: An Autobiography," sets the stage for a deeply personal and introspective journey. The novel unfolds as a first-person narrative, allowing readers a direct glimpse into the innermost thoughts and emotions of the protagonist, Jane Eyre. Brontë's decision to frame the story as an autobiography adds an intimate layer to the narrative, creating a profound connection between the reader and the resilient, independent, and fiercely intelligent Jane.
The novel begins with Jane's tumultuous childhood, marked by abuse and neglect at the hands of her aunt and cousins. Brontë paints a vivid picture of Jane's resilience and thirst for knowledge, setting the stage for a character who defies societal expectations and challenges the limitations placed upon her by her gender and social class. Jane's journey from the oppressive Lowood School to her position as a governess at Thornfield Hall is a testament to her indomitable spirit.
One of the most compelling aspects of "Jane Eyre" is the complex and evolving relationship between Jane and Mr. Rochester. Their connection is not a conventional fairy tale romance; rather, it is a nuanced exploration of love that transcends physical appearances and societal norms. Mr. Rochester, a brooding and enigmatic figure, becomes a symbol of Jane's struggle for autonomy and equality in a society that seeks to confine her to predetermined roles.
Brontë's prose is both eloquent and evocative, creating a rich tapestry of emotions and imagery. The novel's atmospheric descriptions contribute to the Gothic undertones, particularly as Jane navigates the mysterious corridors of Thornfield Hall and confronts the secrets concealed within its walls. The vivid landscapes and settings mirror the emotional landscapes of the characters, adding depth and resonance to the narrative.
Beyond the central love story, "Jane Eyre" grapples with profound themes of morality, religion, and the search for identity. Jane's moral compass is unwavering, and her internal conflicts with societal expectations and her own sense of right and wrong provide thought-provoking reflections on the human condition. The novel also addresses issues of class disparity, gender roles, and the constraints imposed on women in the 19th century.
In conclusion, "Jane Eyre: An Autobiography" is a literary tour de force that continues to captivate readers with its timeless themes and complex characters. Brontë's exploration of love, independence, and societal critique is as relevant today as it was in the Victorian era. As I closed the final pages, I marveled at the enduring power of Jane Eyre's story and the indelible mark it has left on the landscape of classic literature.
Charlotte Brontë's "Jane Eyre: An Autobiography" is available in Amazon in paperback 17.99$ and hardcover 25.99$ editions.

eddie bracken as orville wingait in summer stock (1950)
#don't get it wrong abigail whacking orville upside the head is during their comedy backstage 5 sec to Resolution ending rush#literal last minute conclusion crunch in unsurprising formatting lol; i chose a more peaceful gif to end on. note the prior one's [feet Up]#i hope this illustrates There Is Much Material. more clips than this & truly as good or better a role as any others to choose from here#summer stock#conveniently it's apparently wingait in the movie but via that casting news this (2023) role is wingate#tcm fancam life...we've all been there. akd talking abt meet me in st. louis like maybe i should rewatch lol. have to muddle through someho#anyways there's for sure room to like grab a little thread of plot and enhance it in this story. e.g. orville & abigail could talk Thrice#their B-plot / more idiosyncratic romance there is still >>>>>> the main JUDY & GENE one unsurprisingly even w/o a third convo lol#whoops the main guy is an asshole. judy/jane learns she loves show business so just kinda may as well be in love w/the show guy ig#like girl you don't have to be...but ofc already although her & orville's dynamic is pleasant enough she seems somewhat disinterested#while fascinatingly for our purposes though orville is framed a bit like [this NERD] he can't be too dunked on b/c [romantic B-plot]#meanwhile abigail's Undeserving Of Gene/Joe (she is but she's too good for him) qualities being just that she's been too Indulged so like#in her lack of protestant ethic farm work she's so conceited & sensitive that she wants to rest & not be yelled at???#smash cut to for real judy/jane on Opening Night like asking tentatively like oh romantic interest you're Not gonna yell at me..??#but she's been Hard Working so she will tolerate the physical AND emotional demands. but she's also more Talented than abigail#so joe need not be mean to her Anyways like. okay wild maybe we could rework that but congrats abigail for NOT ending up w/him fr#meanwhile orville's arc (joe has none to speak of save realizing he wants to make out w/this other woman now) is as clear as anyone's#extricate himself from otherwise only getting to be an extension of his father who is generally interfering / directing / demeaning him als#another ''well i don't know about that'' element in that when orville Does tell him to cut that out his dad actually just rolls with that#and becomes more amicable lol like well that does work out & it's unsurprisingly like cmon orv you can't LET him treat you like that...#and if you didn't? he'd just be like ''oh haha okay''...like is abigail supposed to be ''right'' abt uhh romance there but yet she's just#too sensitive to handle Tell Don't Ask / No Apologies? maybe; but they both end up getting to Not Stand For It lol. i think that that would#ofc still be fun to develop. whereas w/joe it's like uh maybe make him Not a huge asshole in the end / judy p much in love w/Showbiz....#abigail & orville out here decidedly Not About Nonsense....but still a bit zany ig such that after the [imagine the foley] hit: it's good#like i'm sure it's ''orville's still enough of a NERD to be chill w/that'' & ''abigail's still DIFFICULT enough to put her foot down''#['50 gender politics] we all know that couple whose flaws & idiosyncrasies allow them to Apologize & Ask & use their inside voices#and be all upset if someone's trying to demean them. unlike True Romance of the man who won't bully his wife if she earns it :')#joe could instead uhh be a harried director who's actually Wrong for being a dick to his gf (if we even include that) w/the various sources#of pressure to make a show Work but there's all this req'd spontaneity / flexibility anyways & he learns that even if he's clenching throug#it he can Not take it out on other people / Make it succeed by Making ppl do anything. & also jane reminds him of Passion for this.
