It's getting cold in Henford, and the family must wear layered clothing and gloves inside to keep warm.

Edith is feeling the hardship of motherhood lately! and Jospehine's disobedience has been very persistent.

It seems like as soon as one mess is cleaned up Josephine is already off making another.

Family time consists of lots of time relaxing around the furnace to stay warm and Edith has taken to doing mostly indoor chores again while she works on growing baby number 2!

She didn't have much time to dwell on it, as it was career day. None of the careers interested her in any way. She knew she wanted to be an artist, not whatever this was.
Ms. Coombes: Now dear, what did you think? Marzia: I know I want to be an artist. Ms. Coombes: Oh honey, don't we all? Dream smaller. What about a career as an astronaut?
 Marzia wasn't impressed.

Remembering Stephen Lewis, merchant seamen turned actor and writer, who passed away August 12th, 2015.
Born in Poplar, East London, in 1926, he initially went to sea, before joining Joan Littlewood's Theatre Workshop, where he made his West End debut in The Hostage, by Brendan Behan, in 1958.
He wrote Sparrers Can't Sing, a play performed in broad cockney with significant improvisation, which was adapted as a feature film in 1963.
Tumblr media
According to Variety:
"…The film is based on a play that (Joan Littlewood) staged at the Theatre Workshop. She and the author of the play, Stephen Lewis, collaborated on the loose screenplay and Littlewood surrounds herself with most of the Workshop cast. She also operates almost entirely on location in the East End that she knows and clearly loves so well…Much of the dialog, which is rather salty, appears to have been made up off the cuff of the players. This shows up dangerously in the intimate scenes, but gives gusto to others..."
Stephen Lewis later found lifelong fame as Blakey in LWT's On the Buses, on television and in three movie adaptations by Hammer, which went on to be some of the most profitable British feature films of the early 1970s. He wrote 12 episodes of On the Buses with co-star Bob Grant, as well their segment for the 1972 ITV Christmas special, All Star Comedy Carnival, and IMDb lists him as a contributing writer for the anthology series Armchair Theatre (Thames/ITV) and Comedy Playhouse (BBC).
He reprised the character of Blakey in the On the Buses spinoff, Don't Drink the Water (1974-75), with Blakey having retired to Spain with his sister, played by Pat Coombs.
He popped up on British television over the years with the occasional cameo, and appeared in David Croft and Richard Spendlove's Oh Doctor Beeching (1995-97), and in 135 episodes of Last of the Summer Wine.
Unlike Bob Grant, who struggled with the legacy of his On the Buses stardom and subsequent typecasting, with ultimately tragic consequences, Stephen Lewis happily embraced his persona to the very end...and beyond.

"When children would ask me if Casey was a boy or a girl," puppeteer Judith Lawrence says in the new documentary, Mr. Dressup: The Magic of Make-Believe, "I would say, 'Yes.'"
"Both Casey and Finnegan were created by Lawrence, an extraordinary puppeteer who the documentary makes clear deserves nearly as much credit for the legacy of Mr. Dressup as Mr. Dressup himself, Ernie Coombs. It also shows that Lawrence believed wholeheartedly in the power of dress-up and make-believe in moving beyond a binary world."
Mr. Dressup aired from roughly the 1970s thru to the '90's on the CBC tv network in Canada. Back in the days when some channels were publically funded and available on traditional airwaves for free.
Mr. Dressup was actor Ernie Coombs and he apprenticed under Mr. Rogers before coming over here to Canada to make Mr. Dressup. It was essentially a Canadian version of the Mr Rogers' Neighborhood show in it's goals, but with a premise based on dressing up and colourful make-believe characters, which were used to approach to daily life in a way kids could learn from.
I was quite young but did grew up on the late 90's re-runs of the show. I remember how quaint it was...

‘Mr. Dressup: The Magic Of Make-Believe’: A Canadian Children’s Entertainment Icon Takes Centre Stage In Documentary Trailer
By COREY ATAD. Published: 7 Sep 2023 2:54 PM
“Keep your crayons sharp.”
On Thursday, Prime Video debuted the trailer for the new Canadian Amazon Original documentary, “Mr. Dressup: The Magic of Make-Believe”.
The film looks back on the story and legacy of Ernie Coombs, the iconic children’s entertainer best known to Canadians as Mr. Dressup.
Featuring interviews with Michael J. Fox, Eric McCormack, Graham Greene, the Barenaked Ladies, Jonathan Torrens, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, Andrew Phung, Bruce McCulloch, Scott Thompson, Bif Naked, Peter Mansbridge and Yannick Bisson, the doc explores the impact “Mr. Dressup” had on generations of Canadians.
As seen in the trailer, the film also looks back on Coombs’ beginnings in children’s television with fellow icon Fred Rogers, and their strong friendship.
“Ernie never forgot a child within him, and that informs everything that he does with children,” Rogers says in a clip from an archival interview.
Born in the U.S., it was Rogers who convinced Coombs to come up to Canada to work with him, producing TV shows for kids.
Coombs would launch “Mr. Dressup” in 1967. The show was immediately successful, though there was a scare soon after, when “Sesame Street” premiered and some wondered wether the Canadian show would be able to stay afloat amid the American competition.
But Coombs persevered, and the show continued airing until its final episode in 1996.
Coombs became a Canadian citizen in 1994, and in he was named a Member of the Order of Canada.
“Mr. Dressup: The Magic of Make-Believe” premieres Oct. 10 on Prime Video.

As a Ph.D. scholar at the Australian National University (ANU) from 2004 to 2007, I stayed at the University House. I chose to live there because it is near my Coombs Building office. It was only halfway through my studies that I appreciated its rich history dating back to its establishment in 1954 as the oldest residential college at the university. The University House has undergone significant changes to meet the diverse needs of its residents. Originally designed to house academic units and later as a residence for faculty, staff, and postgraduate students, the building has transformed into a multifunctional space that seamlessly blends historic charm with modern amenities. The dormitory section where I lived serves as housing for Ph.D. Students, the rest of the building has been converted into 150 hotel-style rooms for visitors. Designed by architect and professor Brian Lewis, the University House is recognized as a heritage site by ANU, the Royal Australian Institute of Architects, and the Government of Australia. The ceremonial opening of the University House in 1954, graced by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, marked a significant milestone in its history. Over the years, the building has adapted to changing times and needs, transitioning from the traditional Oxbridge collegiate system to that of a manor with facilities attuned to the 21st century. The University House has been a venue for numerous academic and social gatherings, including traditional Oxbridge formal dinners and free wine tastings for Ph.D. residents on Wednesday evenings. Its illustrious history is further enriched by the distinguished individuals who have resided within its walls, such as Australian Prime Minister Gough Whitlam. A standout moment during my time at the University House was the visit by Crown Prince Frederick and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark in 2005, during which a memorandum of understanding was signed between ANU and universities in Copenhagen and Aarhus. It was unforgettable because I was busy writing my dissertation in my office daily from 12 noon till 5 a.m. I did not receive last-minute word about vacating the dorm premises after breakfast because Danish guests will be passing through. I was showering leisurely before noon, after waking up, minutes before the VIPs dropped by, when security knocked and slipped a note under my door, frantically instructing me to get properly dressed ASAP. The University House has become a heritage-listed boutique hotel with various dining options and event spaces. Despite facing challenges like the hailstorm damage in January 2020, the building is resilient and undergoing restoration to continue its legacy of academic excellence and cultural significance for future generations to appreciate. As University House continues to thrive, its importance within the ANU community remains unwavering, ensuring its place in its rich history for generations to come. #australiannationaluniversity

"Losing Taylor was a jolt to the cosmos." - Stewart Copeland
Everyone did so well in creating an epic, emotional tribute to an incredible musician & man who affected the lives of so many - and whose legacy will live on in countless ways.
6 hrs long, 50 songs, laughs and tears as we streamed the show (beside the tv a now empty Coors Light can performing as a short of Relic, a can that got thrown into the crowd & that we caught at the end of the last show we saw them at 🍻)
Highlights almost feels a weird way to phrase it but was happy to go along for the ride and especially enjoy the unexpected of: Kesha the babe ⭐, Chevy Metal owning the joint, Justin Hawkins' costumes & vibe, glad I've now heard of Josh Freese!, Wolfgang Van Halen shredding even though he doesn't mainly consider himself a guitarist lol, Violet Grohl's incredible singing (performing Jeff Buckley no less), swaggering out some AC/DC (and realising Brian Johnson and Justin Hawkins remind me of Frank Reynolds from IASIP and Klaus from Umbrella Academy 😂, also "if Brian tells you to do something, you fucking do it!" twitter.com/JustinHawkins/status/1566790445220372482?s=20&t=Ls4AkB34klZNMuVkhEbNYA ), Stewart Copeland being a big ham but showing up all presentable and hitting it like this was 40 years ago, Nandi being an absolute legend, Queen handling their second epic tribute at Wembley 30 years after Freddie, and of course Shane Hawkins embodying the most tangible spirit of Taylor in what must have been a very difficult and badass performance.

The Coombes Legacy
Tumblr media
Daniel Coombes & Edith Mont Coombes - 1890 A woman from a wealthy family and an outlaw from a notorious gang fall for one another and decide to ditch their lives to be together.
More in-depth back story below! I accidentally made it longer than expected. WHOOPS. I'm more of an artist than a writer and I don't think every post I make will be this detailed and in-depth... but its good practice!
Edith Montgomery Calloway was born into a wealthy family in Windenburg and while living there she met her future husband, Butch Boone. Butch Boone was an outlaw who joined the Van Doren gang in his early teens. A gang centered around robbing banks, trains, and stagecoaches. Butch pursued Edith with the intent of getting information & forming a plan to rob Edith's family estate and ends up falling for her tender personality. Obscure interrogations turned into dates and by the end of the month they were infatuated with each other, Butch knew her noble status and his criminal history would make it impossible to be accepted into her family so he took his final cut from the gang, packed what he could, packed it onto a small covered wagon and snuck onto the Calloway estate to propose.
Tumblr media
Butch, as quietly as he could, poured his heart out to Edith from outside her bedroom window, and Edith enthusiastically accepted!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Edith's heart fluttered and she struggled to keep her voice down, She was relieved to know Butch loved her as much as she did him.
Tumblr media
Except now what? Once the excitement passed anxiety flooded her head. Her family would never allow their engagement and Edith would have to leave everything she's known behind!
Tumblr media
Did she really want to leave her family behind? Edith knew she'd most likely never see her siblings again. " Would they even understand? " Negative thoughts clouded her brain. Edith has only ever known a life of luxury...
Was Butch worth throwing it all away?
Tumblr media
" Yes! Yes he was! "
Despite the rollercoaster of emotions, Edith knew at least one thing for sure, Her father had already been discussing plans about Marry her off to another wealthy family in Windenburg, If Edith didn't go now she'd surely marry whatever vainglorious man they planted in front of her whether she loved him or not.
Edith had always done whatever task her family has asked of her, she was not going to be trapped in a loveless marriage for the sake of climbing the social ladder!
Tumblr media
Edith quietly changed from her nightgown, packing what clothes and trinkets she could take with her, and snuck down into her father's library to take what she could from her family's emergency funds.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Butch lead Edith out of her family's property where they rode off to leave Windenburg and bought tickets onto a boat to take them to Henford-on-Bagley to start a new life together.
On the way to Henford Butch decided it was best to pick up an Alias to help leave their histories behind them. Butch Boone would now be known as Daniel Coombes and Edith would become Edith Mont Coombes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Butch pulled what funds they had left and took a loan from the Henford bank to buy a large patch of farmland with a house on the hill.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Daniel and Edith had a private wedding under a tree on their farmland and are both eager to start their new life together. But will it last?
Can Daniel the former Butch Boone, really leave his criminal lifestyle behind and devote himself to working to pay off the heavy bank loans and keep his family afloat? Will Edith be able to leave her aristocratic way of life behind, roll up her sleeves, and get her hands dirty for once to make the farm work? Or will the hard work tear their relationship apart? Was their impromptu marriage a huge mistake?
We'll have to wait and see ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Tumblr media
Connor had spent most of his freshman year of high school hating every second he spent at school. But things changed when he met Grant Milner. Suddenly, the days he spent frowning at others and wishing he could just go home became full of activities and friends.
Tumblr media
Grant was far from popular, but he did have a small group of friends that welcomed Connor right away. They talked in the cafeteria everyday, and they went out together on weekends. They all tried the spicy curry challenge at the Spice Festival.
Tumblr media
They also blew bubbles together at the festival, though they couldn't feel the flavor of the bubbles very well with their mouths still burning.
Tumblr media
When Connor's sophomore year began, he was already an important member of that group. He no longer felt like an outsider, who was always wondering what he should say or do while they were having bubble tea after school.
Tumblr media
Connor: "Guys, who wants to catch a movie this Friday? We're gonna need it after a whole day of dealing with Mrs. Coombes' bullshit. And what are we gonna do this weekend?"

All about Taylor Hawkins 1st & 2nd Tribute Concert
Tumblr media
Over the weekend, the first of two tribute concerts for late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins was held on the 3rd September Saturday night. The Foo Fighters played a six-hour show at Wembley Stadium in England, their first performance since drummer Taylor Hawkins passed away in March. The band was joined by some of the best musicians working today. Hawkins' favorite musicians, including Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen, Liam Gallagher, Travis Barker, and AC/Brian DC's Johnson, were all brought out for the event by the Foo Fighters. Grohl's opening remarks made it obvious that the event would pay tribute to Taylor Hawkins' legacy in more ways than one: "A tremendous damn night for a gigantic god damn person." Later, Dave Chappelle referred to Hawkins as "a legend of a man" and recalled meeting him and his son Shane. The evening's musical performances began with two classic Oasis songs performed by Liam Gallagher and the Foo Fighters, and a moving videotape was given by Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Grohl's incredible performance, which lasted almost six hours overall and featured a setlist of 50 songs, left a profound lasting impression on Hawkins and the Foo Fighters as a whole. Purchase from Indiebound
Caroline “Chuck” Wilson has big plans for spring break—hit up estate sales to score vintage fashion finds and tour the fashion school she dreams of attending. But her dad wrecks those plans when he asks her to spend vacation working the counter at Bigmouth’s Bowl, her family’s failing bowling alley. Making things astronomically worse, Chuck finds out her dad is way behind on back rent—meaning they might be losing Bigmouth’s, the only thing keeping Chuck’s family in San Francisco. And the one person other than Chuck who wants to do anything about it? Beckett Porter, her annoyingly attractive ex-best friend. So when Beckett propositions Chuck with a plan to make serious cash infiltrating the Bay Area action bowling scene, she accepts. But she can’t shake the nagging feeling that she’s acting irrational—too much like her mother for comfort. Plus, despite her best efforts to keep things strictly business, Beckett’s charm is winning her back over...in ways that go beyond friendship. If Chuck fails, Bigmouth’s Bowl and their San Francisco legacy are gone forever. But if she succeeds, she might just get everything she ever wanted.
