#The Chain by Fleetwood Mac

So on a whim I took an audio engineering class at the library, and while it wasn't exactly what I thought it was going to be, I stuck it out to hopefully learn some things, and here is my favorite thing that I learned.

We had been discussing what tricks music does to our brains, psychologically. Things like low bass for power, high tenor for soothing, tempo quickening to trick your heart to speed up, etc.

We listened to a handful of songs and analyzed them for various things like that.

The last song we analyzed, was The Chain by Fleetwood Mac (the song at the end of season 1 ofmd)

The most interesting thing about this discussion, was in analyzing the song, the speaker said something like

"It's an emotional song. The heartbeat helps the song do that to your brain. It's designed almost as if the heartbeat is the most important part"

I thought that was really interesting bc the drum steps (which were loud but not as front and center as the heartbeat) are paired with the English, but the heartbeats feel more like they are paired Ed and Stede.

So, the song emphasizes that, even tho the English are invading,

the focus is on Ed and Stede
