im so glad empanada, even after a tough day, got to have that talk and hug with richas and then bagi where em got some lovely advice about dealing with grief from richas & talked about what went wrong during the day
but i can't help but contrast this with sunny. sunny who empanada still hasn't seen. sunny whose been alone for days. sunny whose talked with almost no one. sunny who doesn't know bad is dead. sunny whose pretending tubbo isn't dead. sunny who got no goodbye. sunny who got no long talks about grief. sunny who got no explanations. sunny who no one visited today. sunny whose birthday is tomorrow. sunny who no one will wake up for first tomorrow

does anyone have a written copy of the goblin emperor and might check something for me?
i have vague recollections of someone saying the bridge over the istandaärtha would need to span two miles, but checking with the audiobook is not working too well

Hey! Fans of Dimension 20's Burrows End and Watership Down, here's a fun lil project I found on Kickstarter:
Tumblr media
Description:
A duty-bound otter and an outlaw lemur must learn to trust each other as they flee a vengeful band of pirates in a post-apocalyptic Las Vegas ruled by animals. The Iron Barge is a talking-animal adventure story in the tradition of Mouse Guard, Watership Down, and The Jungle Book.
Loaded with high-stakes action, a little bit of humor, and unique world building, it'll be a book appropriate for upper-middle grade and YA readers, or anyone seeking a new twist on dystopian fiction.
End of Description.
It's got very cute art and character design. I'd recommend checking the project out, I've backed this myself and am very hopeful to see it get fully funded before the deadline :)

hey. hey uh. just wondering what happened to all the children Curtain barged and brainswept. I'm assuming he didn't have a child services worker politely waiting at the dock for them. uh. where did they go.
#the mysterious benedict society#tmbs#ld curtain#sometimes in the Big Things that Curtain's done stuff like this gets overlooked#did the kids get dropped off at the orphanage? would he really waste the time? raise suspicion about where all these kids are coming from?#assuming one student gets barged a week from the leaderboard every Thursday. in all the years the Institute's been running.#that's a lot of kids.#did the kids just get left on the docks. left to wander around Stonetown with no memories and nowhere to go#also. the fact that unlike the books. not all/most of the kids at LIVE were orphans#Martina had parents#now granted the Whisperer's messages 'the missing aren't missing' probably discouraged them from looking for their kid#but like. did the parents ever wonder. after months of not hearing from their kid.#did they go into town one day for some shopping only for their child to stumble out of an alleyway#dirty and alone and scared and with a completely blank expression#and doesn't even blink twice at their own parents? not even a spark of recognition?#thinking about when the Emergency lifted and the Whisperer's messages stopped.#how many parents suddenly remembered their children have been missing#how many parents rushed to the Institute only to find out their child disappeared years ago?#'what happened to them?'not sure. only they never say goodbye to any of their friends before they leave#like they don't even recognize them at all.#how many parents kept searching. kept following that thread. found their child in an orphanage with no memory of how they'd gotten there#anyways. food for thought!

Other than asking to enter, is there any other reason/scenario Robin would put us in THE VOID? In contrast is there any time where he would refuse to put us in the void? (I was thinking of him not wanting to take advantage of a mental breakdown or particularly vulnerable moment, or if we were intoxicated)
Also, how does entering their dimensions work? Is there a portal or is it more of an instantaneous teleportation? Also since Yuyu can put people in Rigels dimension, can they also take people out of dimensions that aren’t there own or is that only a one way deal?
Robin is unfortunately a toxic creature and will put the MC in there. He isn't particularly worried about a mental breakdown, and actually relishes the advantage. He won't push for anything, but he will definitely use it as a manipulation tactic.
I can't see him refusing if they were to ask for void time though. He'd probably find it cute, and enjoy that they've come to depend on him so much for comfort and safety.
I haven't focused on writing it much, but he is not a good person.
As for entering and exiting, the siblings can come and go freely through these pocket dimensions, they just don't out of politeness usually.

I know I freaked out about Kate a while ago, and I get that this is in the same sentence, but somehow I also forgot that Sticky got to Stonetown by hiding on a river barge????
I mean, Stonetown's a seaside town??? I always assumed it took his parents forever to find him because of the Emergency, but this means he could have been from literally anywhere?? If we're still sticking with Stonetown being somewhere in New England, there's a lot of rivers!!! He could have been from a completely other state!!! He could have been wandering around for weeks not just walking on foot, but actually traveling at a vehicle-fast pace
Just... thinking about how Mr. Benedict and co. knew this...
Milligan probably saw him sneaking off the barge when he was hanging up posters or whatever and was like Oh shoot, I can't straight up abduct the kid, it'll scare him. Well, the test is only in a day or two, maybe if he shows up there we can help and, like, starts whistling really loudly and hangs up a bunch of posters specifically in that area to be sure Sticky sees one, and then once the kid's actually put some distance between himself and the boat (If he was sneaking, Milligan didn't want to accidentally expose him and get him in trouble) he walks by and is like "Why, hello there, random child. You look like someone who is looking for opportunities. Also do you want a sandwich?" and hands him a flyer directly

damn shortie. you sure are forming an authoritarian hold over media you, personally, believe should be eradicated based on your own very close-minded ideals. are you by any chance using the modern united states republican party as your template?

thinking abt that manipulative wwx post in context of Cunning Bastard jgy and like... and it might be my *insert whatever the fuck it is that ails me* brain, but... once you think about it almost everything can become manipulation. because you use your knowledge of the other person -- or people in general -- to influence their actions. jgy smiles, is polite and agreeable to achieve his goal of surviving another day. wwx is the world's most annoying dude to make the opponent slip up. a child cleans the house because they hope their mother won't be as angry about today's exam results... but you wouldn't call them manipulative, right, because that'd be ridiculous. how about the situation in which someone wants to eat the last slice of pizza, but it's kinda awkward to just reach for it, so they ask others if they want to eat it, thus infecting them with the thought of It's Kinda Awkward, and finally after everyone's assured them they really don't want it, they're full, the person can have the slice for themselves? how about the one where you make a mistake and expect to be scolded, but because you know your superior, you pretend to be more apologetic and devastated than you really are, so that they skip to "now now, it's not that bad, it's fixable" without scolding you at all? or about knowing someone's a contrarian and, when you want them to do X, saying instead that they probably shouldn't/can't do X, so that they obviously go "fuck you, I'm doing it just to spite you"?

florian and margaret are, hands-down, THE BEST platonic guy-girl relationship I've ever encountered in all of fiction ever. They're so sweet and care about each other so much and hrrgrgehrgh. I'm sorry but I will NOT be shutting up about them
