Unexpected Surprises
Summary: Logan x Fe!Reader -> Finding out your pregnant is one thing, having Logan know before you is another.
Disclaimer: Mostly fluff, descriptions of giving birth, Logan's senses are at their full power. He's also read the books. One swear word here and there. Not Proof Read.
If someone had told you, even yesterday, that you would be sitting inside your bathroom with Logan sitting against your sink counter, waiting for a pregnancy test to show you a result he already knew…
You wouldn’t have believed them.
They could have been cursed to tell the truth their entire lives and you still wouldn’t have believed them.
Because it was baffling to you.
And it had all started because Logan - of all people - knew you were pregnant.
It had all started several weeks ago when you had met the team under the school inside Jean Grey’s lab. The others had been talking when you had arrived and slid in to stand beside Logan.
After a moment, he sniffed.
“What is it?”
“Have you changed your shower gel?”
You looked at him with a bewildered look. “No, why?”
“You smell different.”
“I don’t know how comfortable I am knowing you can smell me.” You said, looking up at him. You knew it was a part of his mutation; heightened senses, but it still caught you off guard every now and then.
Logan shrugged. “I can always smell you.”
From there, you both turned to find out why you’d been called down to the lab.
Over the next couple of weeks, Logan noticed a change in you.
You started napping.
For the average person, taking a nap in the middle of the day wasn’t unheard of. But for you, someone who practically lived off four to five hours a night of sleep, constantly running around the place doing things, unable to sit still long enough to even think about taking a nap….
It was unheard of.
First it had been in the living room on the sofa whilst the kids were either out or in their rooms before they’d get called for dinner. Then in the library, the hallway on the window seat bench, the kitchen. And Logan hadn’t been the only one to find you napping.
But he was the only one to move you from where you were and into your bedroom.
And each day your scent was getting stronger.
For the life of him he couldn’t put his finger on it. He had asked Jean about it but since you hadn’t come to her, or hadn’t seemed unlike your normal self, she didn’t see anything to worry about.
Maybe your body was just finally making you listen and telling you to rest.
But as of a week ago, you had been throwing up every meal you had. But you didn’t feel sick. Save for the twenty minutes before and after throwing up. Most of the time you felt hungry and nauseous at the same time.
Except, you’d kept the fact you kept puking to yourself. Until a morning meeting before classes were about to start.
“Excuse me, just a second-”
You just about managed to get out of the door and down the hallway before throwing up the toilet lid and emptying your breakfast back into the water.
Everyone looked around concerned and Jean was about to follow you when Logan caught her by the door. “Let me.”
Logan seemed to know something the others didn’t.
“Is she okay?”
Logan nodded, looking around before finding Charles. “She’s fine,” he replied, turning back to Jean.
“I’ll be back in a minute.”
Closing the door behind him, Logan found you in the staff bathroom, the door unlocked.
Knocking on, he heard you take a breath before flushing the toilet and putting the lid back down. He slowly entered before closing the door behind him and looking at you as you sat on the lid of the toilet seat.
“Here,” Logan grabbed a fresh flannel and ran it under the tap before handing it to you and crouching on the floor so he could see you.
“Thanks.” You took the flannel from him and placed it over your face, wiping it down before folding it over and running it down the back of your neck. “Two weeks. Two weeks and I can’t keep a meal down, but I feel normal.”
“There might be an explanation for that.”
Then you felt yourself starting to cry.
You never cried.
At least, Logan had never seen you cry.
“I don’t know what’s wrong with me. One minute I’m flushed and wanting to throw up my internal organs, the next I was to sleep for a decade and eat nothing but sugar. Maybe I’m coming onto my period.”
“You’re not.”
You threw the flannel into the sink before looking at Logan. “What?”
“You’re not coming onto your period. You’re pregnant, Y/n.”
“Excuse me?”
Logan sighed. “I can…smell it. Your hormonal changes. And it would explain the tiredness, and the puking your guts up every five seconds. And the emotions.”
You just stared at Logan. “What?”
“If you don’t believe me, take a test. Maybe I’m wrong-”
“You are.” You told him. “I can’t be pregnant. When would I have had-”
Logan raised an eyebrow at you as if to say, “You really don’t remember?”
You looked up, away from him and towards the door, doing the maths in your head.
“I can’t….no. No, I can’t be pregnant.”
“Look,” Logan began. “At least take a test. Just to be sure. I could be wrong…but I don’t think I am.”
The next day Logan drove you into the town and towards the local pharmacy.
Sitting out in the car, you unbuckled your seat belt and looked at the door before turning to Logan. “Will you come in with me?”
And he did. Without question.
Spending a few minutes searching for the tests, Logan found them and handed one over to you. “Can tell as early as…” He read the box. “Five weeks.”
You nodded before looking back at the shelf, grabbing a different box of a different brand, just to be safe. At the counter, the cashier rang up both boxes for you. Neither you or Logan missed the light smile on her face as she looked between the two of you. However, the cashier missed the slightly awkward shift from Logan as he realised what she was doing and he somehow moved both closer to you and away from you at the same time.
“That’ll be seven, ninety five.”
You handed over a ten dollar bill and collected your change. Both yourself and Logan thanked her before shuffling away from the counter, Logan looking behind him as he opened up the door for you, finding the cashier smiling and waving you out.
By the time you both got home, you found a note on the desk in the hallway from Xavier. They had taken the kids out on a school trip to the museum. They should be back by dinner.
So that left you and Logan alone to stand inside your bathroom, avoiding looking at the two tests on the counter.
“I still think it’s weird you can smell the change.” You said out loud, sat on the toilet seat, your hands interlocked with each other. “I mean…what does it even smell like?”
You unlocked your hands and pressed them between your knees, turning to look up at him as he leaned against your sink counter.
Logan seemed a little out of it, his head somewhere else for a moment as his eyes remained fixed on the skirting board whilst he brushed a hand repeatedly across his face.
“Huh?” He snapped out of it, brushing his face one last time before moving his hands so they were against the cold counter before crossing his feet and crossing his arms once more. “Oh, uh, I don’t know, It’s just different.”
“Like a bad different?” You asked.
“Just…stronger, I guess. Why do you even want to know? I thought you found it weird?”
You nodded. “I do. But you can’t tell me you’ve got questions for things you find weird.”
Logan looked at you. “What? Like your ability to watch a serial killer documentary before you go to bed, yet you won’t watch horror movies?”
“I knew you found that weird!”
Logan nodded. “That’s because it is. Scott isn’t allowed near you in the month of October because you said he watches too many scary movies.”
“I can see it in his aura. Being near Scott in the month of October is like putting you next to a magnet and hoping you don’t get stuck to it. Horror movies scare me any time of year, it’s just stronger in October. And Scott watches too many.”
“Who knew the woman who used to work for the FBI, doesn’t like horror movies?”
“Technically, I worked in the labs. Not the field.”
“Still. FBI that’s afraid of a couple jumpscares on a set full of actors. Kind of ironic if you ask me.”
“Oh, please.” You replied, turned back to looking at the door. “You’re just as scared of them. Don’t think I didn’t spot the claw shaped holes in the pillow from last Halloween.”
From the corner of your eye, you saw Logan squirm.
“How long is left on this thing anyway?”
You looked at your phone. “Twenty seconds.”
You both watched as the timer went off before looking at each other. “Ready?”
It took you a second, but you finally nodded and Logan stood back up straight. As did you before pulling the face down tests from the counter.
Logan stood behind you, his hand absentmindedly coming to your hip as he looked over your shoulder. You closed your eyes before turning them round and took another second before finally opening them.
It felt like the wind had been knocked out of you.
Two lines.
Both tests.
Two, vibrant, clear from space, lines.
And despite him being the first to know, everything suddenly felt a lot more real for Logan.
“Oh my god,” you breathed out before you felt yourself starting to cry again. “Oh my god.”
You looked at Logan through the mirror before turning around and his arms wrapped themselves around you as you stood on your tiptoes to bury your face into his neck.
“What do you need? Tell me what you need.”
You set yourself back on your feet, your eyes locked on Logan’s chest. “Sleep? I think.”
Logan smiled a little and brushed the hair out of your face, kissing your forehead. “Okay.”
“Logan?”
“Yeah?”
“Will you…” The question disappeared. “Stay with me.”
With his eyes fixed on yours, Logan nodded.
Laying down beside you, his arms wrapped around you whilst your legs tangled with his. And for a moment, he was transported back almost nine weeks ago when you and him had finally crossed the one line you both swore you’d never cross with each other, in a motel room, just off the highway leading back into New York.
Neither of you woke up until a few hours later where you found yourself lay on your side, Logan’s arm around your middle with his hand gently pressed to your belly, whilst he remained behind you, a little more on his front, his face half buried in his pillow.
Having felt you move, Logan stirred awake for a moment to fully turn onto his side. But you just kept looking at him.
Just like you had done almost ten weeks ago when you watched the sunlight that was beginning to peek through the curtains that never just quite shut all the way, dance across his bed-ridden hair and over the muscles in his back, ghosting over where the sheet was draped over his bottom half.
And just like then, you brushed a few of the stray hairs from his face, watching his too tired muscles unable to fight off the smile on his face whilst his hand came up and held yours against him for a moment before he kissed the centre of your palm.
“What time is it?”
“A little after four…I think. I don’t think the others are back yet.”
“I think we’d know if they were.” Logan joked a little before gazing at you. “How are you feeling?”
“Better, I think. A little less sick.”
“Good.”
You nodded for a moment before looking back at Logan. “I think I want to do this.”
Logan gave you a questioning look for a moment. “Are you sure?”
You nodded. “I’m sure. If you don’t want to-”
“I want to.”
It wasn’t ever a second thought for Logan when he had come to terms with you being pregnant, as well as him being the first to know. He would have supported any decision you made, but he couldn’t help but feel a little more than happy when you confirmed his question.
He had been in love with you ever since you had splattered midnight spaghetti sauce on your face from when you had slurped spaghetti. He had chuckled and wiped a spot from your chin with his thumb.
Of course, he wasn’t blind.
He had always found you attractive since he first met you, but becoming your friend and falling in love with you two years later over a bowl of spaghetti as you graded papers…that was something he could have only ever dreamed of.
That night, he thought about kissing you. But promised himself he wouldn’t. He couldn’t. You were both friends.
And when you both almost kissed after having stepped into him whilst you were both outside looking for logs to put on the fire pit outside, he had a strong feeling you felt what he was feeling, too.
But fear…stopped you both.
And Rogue’s voice from shouting for you both since you’d both been gone ten minutes longer than you had planned.
But that night in the motel room.
Neither of you could deny it anymore. And there was no one around to interrupt.
Maybe both of you wished it had happened a lot more smoothly. But neither of you could deny you weren’t not happy about what had happened.
“You want to?” You rallied his words back to him, trying not to smile too much.
Logan nodded. “I want to.”
“Good.”
“Good.”
“One thing,” you said. “What do we tell the others?”
“You didn’t tell anyone what happened?”
You shook your head. “No. Work kinda got in the way.”
Which it did. A few hours after the motel, you had both gotten a call to get back to the school as quickly as you could. And work got too busy, neither you or Logan had time to talk about what happened and before you both knew it, it got too late to mention it again.
“Did you?”
Logan shook his head. “No.”
“This is gonna be a shock to their system.”
You nodded in agreement. “Maybe we don’t tell them so soon. At least wait until the twelve week scan.”
“Agreed. Accept-”
“Jean’s got to know.”
Logan nodded and clicked his teeth.
“But we can trust her. Maybe we’ll just have to corner her in her lab before she and Scott have lunch together.”
Logan nodded. “Good idea. Does the lab even have a sonogram machine?”
You reeled back a little. “Logan…”
“What? I might have…read…a couple of books.”
You could help but smile. “You read books? On pregnancy?”
Logan shrugged, once again trying to hide his smile. “Had to know if I was right about you being pregnant. And if I was, I wanted to know…what to expect. Just because I’m nearly 200 years old doesn’t mean I know what I’m doing.”
“And the entire world takes a sigh of relief. Even the oldest man in the world doesn't know what he’s doing. Maybe we don’t have to have it all figured out right now.”
Logan smiled, his hand pressing gently against the bottom of your back, pulling you closer to him. “Maybe we don’t.”
“But we’re gonna do this together?”
Logan gave you a nod and smiled. “We’re gonna do this together.”
By the time the others got back, Logan was on cooking duty since the smell of everything was sending you into waves of sickness once again, until Logan handed you a small bag of sweets with a couple of pretzels inside that helped curb your cravings and settled the sickness.
And, just like you had said, you found Jean in her lab just a little after Scott had left and told her what she needed to know.
Within moments she had you lay on the examination table and Logan wheeled a chair over to be by your side whilst she scanned your stomach to find your uterus.
“Have to say, you two took your time.”
“Huh?”
Jean smiled. “Rogue was sure something had happened that night at the firepit when she went to find you two. When she finds out she’s gonna be thrilled something did finally happen.”
You and Logan looked at each other. “Other than Rogue…how many people think that…”
“You two would finally stop being idiots and do something about it?” Jean clicked a couple of buttons on the monitor. “Everyone.”
“Everyone?!”
Jean smiled. “Yep. And now they’re gonna be thrilled. Take a look.”
Jean explained what you were looking at. “See, here their head, and their feet. They look pretty comfortable there, tucked up nice and cosy.”
Jean did a couple other things whilst you and Logan looked at the screen, Logan’s hand taking yours in his before he kissed your palm again.
“Wow…she’s so small.”
You looked at Logan with a smile, and tears in your eyes. “What makes you so certain it's a girl?”
Logan shrugged. “I just do.”
Squeezing his hand, you smiled and looked back at the monitor.
“I’d put you at about a little over nine weeks. We should be able to hear a heartbeat.”
You looked a little shocked, not expecting to hear a heartbeat so soon. But Jean found it and…you breathed. Or maybe you held it. You weren’t quite sure.
“Stay still,” Jean laughed a little.
“Sorry,” you apologised.
Logan held onto your hand, tears forming in his own eyes. But for two reasons. One; finally being close to you, seeing your baby and hearing their heartbeat. And two; the small thumping Logan had heard every time he was around you, almost like an echo of your own – or maybe his – had been your baby.
The baby you were having together.
He had been hearing their heartbeat for almost a week.
“Logan…that’s our baby.”
There was no stopping his smile. “That’s our baby.”
With his other hand at the back of your head, his thumb making familiar strokes back and forth, he kissed you and you squeezed his hand a little tighter, never wanting to let go.
“I’ll set this recording for you and print off a couple of pictures. Congratulations guys. You’ve got a very healthy baby.”
Jean did as she said she would and by the time you were clean of the gel and sat back up with Logan standing by your side, Jean gave you a couple of information booklets.
“I think Logan’s already got most of it covered,” you said with a smile, catching his slightly sheepish look. “But thank you.”
Jean hugged both of you. “Congrats guys, and don’t worry. They won’t hear anything from me.”
You smiled. “Thank you.”
By the time you both got back to your room, you had one picture, as did Logan however the third one, Logan kept looking at.
Without saying anything, you both came to an agreement and it wasn’t long before you found who you were looking for.
Closing the library door, you checked all the spaces before confirming both yourself, Logan and Rogue were alone.
“What’s going on?”
Coming to a stand, Rogue stood in front of Logan and you rounded the table to stand beside him.
He held out the picture. “We wanted to give you this. Figured you should be the first to know…apart from Jean.”
Rogue took the photo in her hands from Logan, it taking a minute before it all finally clicked in her head and confirmed what she was looking at.
Baby Y/L/N HOWLETT printed in bold white ink in the corner.
Rogue burst into a smile and let out a small laugh before hugging both of you quickly. “Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god!”
“But you can’t tell anyone.” Logan told her. “At least not yet.”
Rogue shook her head. “I-I won’t. I promise. Oh my god!”
She hugged you both again before stepping back.
“I knew something was going on between you two! Congrats, guys! Oh, my god! This is just…incredible. Insane.” Then she calmed down for a moment. “Thank you for telling me.”
Logan shrugged. “Figured the kid’s Aunt would want to know first.”
Rogue smiled even brighter and then looked down at the picture lovingly. “When do you find out the gender?”
“In a couple of weeks,” you smiled, holding onto Logan’s hand and arm. “But he thinks it’s a girl.”
“You do?” Rogue asked, with a smile still prominent on her face. “You two are gonna make the best parents.”
“Thank you.”
“Thanks, Kid.”
And she was right.
As was Logan when, only a few weeks later, Jean confirmed that you both were in fact going to be the proud parents of a baby girl.
And by the time it came round to you giving birth, you may have bruised Logan’s hand as well as scared Scott into never watching a horror movie where a woman gives birth, ever again.
Bobby had been the first to find you when you went into labour. You were hunched over the counter in the kitchen, holding onto your belly.
“Y/n, are you okay?”
You managed to shake your head. “No.”
Then your waters broke.
“Oh, uh, okay. Okay. Rogue!”
Practically sliding around the door, Rogue saw what was happening. “Oh, crap. Okay. Bobby, go and find Logan.”
“Do you know where he is?”
“He’s…” you grunted through the pain. Jean had warned you that having a baby with one mutant parent might speed things along, but two?
As you had gathered from Jean’s easy let down…
You were fucked.
“Ugh.” You grunted. “He’s…he’s out in the gardens…they had trouble…ahh…they had trouble moving…”
“Just breathe.” Rogue assured you. “Bobby, go.”
And he did.
“Okay, we’re gonna get you downstairs. I’ll call Jean.”
Twenty minutes later, Jean was back from her store run and rushed inside the school only to nearly collide into Logan.
“Where is she? I can’t find her.”
“Rogue helped her down to the lab.”
When Jean and Logan finally ran inside, they found you bracing yourself on the bed as Rogue rubbed up and down your back and you felt the pain kick up a notch.
“They’re here! They’re here. Logan.”
Logan was already on it, replacing Rogue’s hand with his own in yours. “Where the hell were you?”
“I could ask you the same thing.”
“How’s your pain?” Jean asked, walking back inside in her scrubs.
“Ever been kicked by a horse in your pelvis?”
Another contraction started up and as you held onto Logan’s hand, you braced yourself on his other arm.
Jean gave a hidden laugh from your comment and started setting everything up.
“Just tell me when the pain stops and we can get you moved onto the bed.”
It took a moment but eventually it slowed and, with Logan’s help, you got into the hospital bed and Jean checked you over.
It was a few more hours before you were ready to push.
“No, I can’t. It hurts.”
“Just a few more pushes. Come on, you can do it.”
Logan held onto your hand whilst his other arm supported you around your shoulders and back. “You can do it. Just a couple more and it’ll be over.”
You groaned. “Why can’t we be seahorses? The males have to push and they’re only pregnant for ten days.”
Logan could help but laugh a little. “We can always get Chuck to come down and narrate this. He’s no David Attenbourogh but he is English.”
“Oh, shut up.” You laughed a little. “Don’t make me laugh. I’m in enough pain as it is.”
Another contraction started up and you began to push again.
“That’s it! Good…just a little longer.”
Fifteen minutes later the room was filled with the cries of a newborn baby girl and you felt yourself cry a sigh of relief, joy and worry.
“You did it, honey.” Logan kissed your temple. “You did it.”
“Where is she? Is she okay?”
Jean smiled and nodded. “She’s perfect. Dad? Want to do the honours?”
Logan kissed you and walked over towards Jean, his hands trailing away from yours before reaching for the scissors Jean handed him.
Cutting the cord, Jean hurried to weigh and measure your daughter as quickly as she could before handing her over to you for skin to skin contact.
“Oh my god, she’s beautiful.”
Logan was crying tears of happiness. “She looks just like her Momma.”
“Congrats, you guys.”
“Thank you.”
You couldn’t take your eyes off of her. She was…everything.
Logan sat beside you on the bed, his arm above your head and the other around both of you. He saw you in her, but you saw him.
“You guys picked a name yet?” Jean asked, standing on the other side of the bed, the camera by her side from where she’s taken a couple of photos already.
Both yourself and Logan had been quiet about the names you had picked.
“We haven’t decided yet.” Logan told her, his eyes never leaving his daughter.
“But whatever it is, Marie is going to be her middle name.”
Jean smiled and took yet another picture. Everyone had been waiting years for this moment, for you and Logan to finally get together, for you both finally to realise you were both always meant to be, even before either of you knew it.
They were going to want pictures to keep forever of this moment.
As were you two.
And the ones Jean took were just the first of many to be taken, from everyone holding her beside you and Logan, to the big family photo with her in Logan’s arms, to the one you would always keep by your bedside of Logan holding his daughter for the first time. To birthday’s, Christmases, Easter, family dinners, first steps, first words.
The others that made a small collection in your memory box for her, where she’s learning to walk, holding onto Logan’s fingers, climbing up her dad and going over his shoulder, finding easter eggs with Logan and Rogue, sitting in Xavier’s lap at his desk, learning to bake for the first time – a picture you didn’t know existed until you found it in the small box Logan had been keeping. He had taken the picture of you and her when you weren’t looking and had multiple copies.
There was a picture of every moment and every memory that both of you would always treasure forever.
And even when the sleepless nights felt endless, neither of you wanted to change it for the world.

parfum d'étoiles | k.akaashi
introductions; the miseducation of bokuakakurotsukkiken
⋆。°✩ keiji akaashi
he loves 'all about lily chou chou' and 'neon genesis evangelion' , a bit of a loser but it's commonly understood across the campus that he's quite attractive. keiji wears thrifted, archival fashion, but also buys modern clothing - doesn't indulge in fast fashion. he wears women's pants that he thrifts and he shares clothes with tsukishima a lot but they're sometimes baggy on him. he used to drink a lot of coffee, but switched to genmaicha right before university started. has a dog named pochi , breed is undecided (akaashi likes cats too but his mom likes dogs). he really likes kiyoko's sense of style and buys from her depop often - also is a deep reader and helps tsukishima with his booktok account.
⋆。°✩ kei tsukishima
he made a booktok account as a joke to clown on colleen hoover but then blew up (i think of daniel yeo when i think of tsuki as a creator), he's just been posting occasionally since then but has a nice following he enjoys interacting with. tsukishima is a big fan of cable knit sweats and corduroy pants, he dresses quite casually but owns a couple of more expensive pieces, all thrifted not made to wear. even though he doesn't care about his own fashion, he loves buying the photography archives of fashion designers and looks through them often. he likes chai lattes or oolong tea. he likes a range of music, but focuses on radiohead the most. he hates a lot of mainstream booktok books , colleen hoover, icebreaker etc, but also hates murakami , dazai and bukowski.
⋆。°✩ tetsuro kuroo
he's kind of cool if you try to forget the fact that he actively tries so seem cooler. suffers from soo much fomo it's actual insanity (based off of one of my irls). he loves r&b , the REALEST ms lauryn hill fan, but has a wide range of music taste as well. he's the glue in this group chat and it would be dead if it wasn't him and bokuto spamming it all the time. he loves croissants and old libraries even if he doesn't read, he likes the ambience while he's catching up on his university lectures. he skips all of them (self indulgent). he changes his bio on twitter every 25 minutes and it's just the captions of tiktoks he giggled from - it's abhorred. i think a lot of people look at him from afar because he's quite attractive but his aura is so intimidating that no one goes up to him..
⋆。°✩ kotaro bokuto
bokuto is a very rowdy and energetic person, which is why he's perfect to be akaashi's best friend! he struggles a bit with being too pushy. especially with akaashi who he sometimes forces to do things he doesn't want to do. he's sort of slow and unaware, but he means the best for everybody. he has no opps. he unironically plays roblox (uses his younger cousins as an excuse but actually loves it) and his favourite games are dress to impress and gym simulator. unlike akaashi, bokuto stayed friends with yn after high school ended but just doesn't talk to her as often - him and yn were never as close as akaashi and yn. bokuto really likes cheese, especially gouda, but also flightless birds.
⋆。°✩ kenma kozume
kenma is winning every single idgaf war on the entire planet, i'm not even kidding. (but on a more serious note, he does look out for his friends in his own special way). he loves any sort of energy drink, and his favourite food is tiramisu because it wakes him right up and he likes mascarpone. he strictly wears uniqlo airism shirts and rotates through 4 different pairs of pants (jeans, gray sweatpants, black sweatpants and jorts). he likes to stay home and watch films with akaashi, play different games with bokuto and have long conversations with tsukishima. he's closest to kuroo because they live together. bokuto and akaashi live together too and kei lives alone but everyone meets up there anyways. he doesn't use twitter too often.

Baby Genesis Headcanons (just because)
Genesis was the first baby born from the project. We know it was canonly either Angeal or him, but with a name like Genesis and the fact Deepground was set up after his birth rather than Angeal's, it makes sense he's the first baby.
He was also a premature baby. Given what we know of the process of the jenova babies happening, it's likely his biological mother died from mutations not unlike we see at Nibelheim given this was where the Jenova project was set. That would also imply that Genesis and Angeal were also Nibelheim babies as it seems there were multiple labs there from what we've seen in DoC and Rebirth.
Since we know whatever is in Genesis's genetic structure that's unusual was there at birth from the DoC guides, I tend to think this means some aspects of cell degeneration were already there there too. As such, I don't think his pre-SOLDIER immune system was great and he was the type of kid who got every cold and cough under the sun. It led to him spending a lot of time curled up books.
Spent more time at Angeal's or in the caves than he did at home. By the age of ten, he had mastered getting out of Angeal's window just to knock on the door as if he was arriving. Angeal's parents know of these shenanigans, point out they know but Genesis still continued to do it because he has always commited to the bit.
I do think Genesis is far more fond of Angeal's parents than he is of his own. Loves his own, obviously, but their relationship is far more complicated for reasons he doesn't understand and I think it says something Gillian displayed pictures of both of them. The woman might be stone cold in some ways (such as putting her guilt before saving her kid) but I think there is a sense of responsibility with Genesis and for whatever it was worth, I think Genesis honestly thought she'd help without getting Angeal involved because of that relationship.
Genesis had private lessons compared to Angeal doing the village hall packet classes. Whether he actually studied all of it is questionable, but he's always had enough charm and unapologetic gumption to get away with things. The utter hilarity that Angeal seems to have been seen as more of a bad influence will never get old.
Genesis did not know he was fostered at all, so this provides a certain amount of confusion to his childhood interactions with his parents. It's said that they 'grew' to love him, but he absolutely remembers that detatchment and doesn't really understand it. It's a wedge that sits between them for a long time, assuming maybe they didn't particularly want kids when he happened so he's a bit of an inconvenience and they're just dealing with that.
I absolutely believe Genesis' biological father is Gast. If he's the first baby and Gast is definitely caught in the excitement, I can see him deciding well he's too human, he can go have a quiet life in an apple orchard and given Shinra's surveillance, it's easy enough to check in on him if need be. I don't think he ever really considers Genesis his, it was very much a clinical process unlike with Ifalna, but does consider the kids his in a very broad sense of being part of the project. There's a disconnect there that - not unlike Gillian - he can really only see his own guilt and mistakes rather than the living, breathing kids it produced.
Genesis's first summon was found in the caves under Banora. It was a summon - for me, I use Ifrit - and he spent so much time and energy leveling it up and delving into fire and magic that they became his most intense disciplines as an adult. That said, people definitely....misplaced materia around him, oops, how did that happen? (Yuffie would be proud)
Given that Banora was the freezer for Project G, I think he and Angeal were the only kids around their age for a long time and they've been codependent as hell ever since. I think there is an aspect of Jenova cells recognising each other as much as it's being the only two little kings of the castle for their village for a good while, but the result is the same: getting seperated for great lengths was a lot harder when they got into SOLDIER because they'd spent their whole lives around each other (more than they know).
Genesis's interest in exploration of gender nonconformity grew out of the magazines and things that he could get from Midgar. I think originally it was just a bonding thing with his mum, like he learned how to make drinkslike a Little Adult from an early age. I think that doing things like nails or learning about make up was just a way to get his mother to talk at length without any weirdness creeping in but he developed a genuine passion for it as a form of individualistic self expression. Especially later around Sephiroth.
I think Genesis talks at people more so than to them because he grew up in a big house with very few people around and the silence was deafening. Even as a little kid, I think he just talked aloud. It just made him feel lonely, so filling that silence became a way of dealing with that and so, years on, when no one is listening to him, he's used to that. It's a good way to get past the 'you never told me that' thing because he can sneak in that he knocked over one of Angeal's bug infested monstrosities when Angeal isn't listening between LOVELESS arguments.

I Bite, Pretty Boy
Chapter 1: Nerdy Obsessions
Word Count: 2.4k
A/N: Hope you guys like it, personally I am super excited for this story.
Han Jisung isn’t just your typical everyday nerd. Sure, he gets top marks in all of his classes. And really he’s ahead in all of them; above all of the other students academically. He has never felt the loving touch of a woman that wasn’t his mother, never known how it feels to have a girl even LOOK in his direction for more than a few seconds without it being a rather judgmental acknowledgment. Because well, Jisung isn’t JUST a nerd. He’s a weird and obsessive nerd.
You see, Jisung doesn’t even particularly care about his studies. It’s not as if doing statistics or biology are fun for him in any meaningful sense. He does it because he has to and it’s pretty easy anyway. He is a genius after all. However it’s not simply a matter of intellect that makes Jisung a nerdy recluse, no. It’s the fact that he is unreasonably, unapologetically, and honestly rather concerningly obsessed with the supernatural. It’s to an alarming degree really, how much it occupies his mind.
Han Jisung really only has 3 hobbies; Hacking, Delving into supernatural lore and stories, and making up little scenarios in his head of the supernatural concepts he so loves. If you think about it, Jisung is just a typical everyday student. Except for the fact that the idea of living in a world where werewolves, fairies, and witches reside appeals to him in a way it does no other. He longs to be a part of a fantasy world that everyone knows does not exist. That is what fantasy is after all, made up imaginary stories. ‘Nothing more than delusions’; his bullies, friends, and even his own mother would say.
He just can’t accept this reality, however. Perhaps it is too boring and dull for dear Jisung; who craves a life with more flare, more meaning than your typical human life. Or perhaps he wants to play the hero; save a pretty damsel and be loved by all or die in a selfless act of righteous glory. No matter the reasoning, Jisung craves that level of dreamy fantasy that you only read about in novels. To the extent that he can’t much be bothered with most other things. No interest in forming new relationships; platonic, sexual, or romantic.
Even if there were a girl on campus that took an interest in the weird boy with little potion and wand pendants hanging down from his beige bag with a large dragon printed in the center and pretty little fairies surrounding it, he wouldn’t even notice nor care because he’s too busy daydreaming about his little fantasy lands.
Contrary to popular belief, the strange boy does actually have friends. His roommate Seungmin was the one to introduce them to him. Seungmin is a bit of a nerd himself, but even more than that he’s a bit of a drifter. He’s a pitcher on the baseball team, one of the best students at the school, he’s a photographer for the yearbook club and he works at the school library.
Working at the library is where Seungmin met Han, he eventually striked up a conversation after seeing him obsessively check out the maximum number of books (all of varying fantasy concepts) every single week. His interest was immediately piqued, especially because although it’s not his life passion, Seungmin also likes fantasy stuff. Although Unlike Han he doesn’t actually believe any of it, he just thinks it’s fun.
With Seungmin becoming his friend it was only a matter of time before his two best friends also became Jisung’s. Jisung’s not even really sure where Seungmin met the other two, but in their second year of college Seungmin had offered to become roommates with Han. A nice roomy little house they’d split the rent for. Apparently the librarian hated living in the dorms just as much as he did and well… Jisung wasn’t going to refuse such a wonderful opportunity. It didn’t take long after moving in together for Seungmin’s friends to adopt the weird kid into their friend group. It would have been hard not to with how much time they spent taking over their space. And like in any friend group they each have their own roles and personalities within the group.
Changbin is the responsible one, he wants Jisung to stop with his obsession because he thinks it to be pointless and unhealthy. He doesn’t understand why he likes those kinds of things in the first place but there is no malice behind it. He just doesn’t see it the way Han or Seungmin do. He thinks Han is wasting his intelligence and potential and that he should put that energy into something like producing like him.
Seungmin is the smart sarcastic one who makes fun of Han most but also worries over him most. He also happens to be the one who indulges Han’s passion most frequently, since he actually finds his hobby fascinating. He still thinks Jisung takes it a little too far but he doesn’t think his hobby is dumb. He often gets in fights with Changbin about it because he believes his hobby is fine and that they should let him be passionate about it, he thinks Jisung should avoid taking it to any dangerous lengths like hacking but he strongly disagrees with Changbin’s desires to have Han completely give up on the ‘ridiculous’ interest and thinks he should continue to read his books and do his research and stuff. He loves listening to him rant for hours and hours about it too but he’ll probably never admit that out loud.
And then we have Hyunjin. The goofy scaredy cat friend, he finds Jisung’s hobby terrifying and it usually gives him the chills. He has a hard time listening to him talk about it because of that but generally is indifferent on whether or not he keeps the hobby. He’s kind of in the middle of Changbin and Seungmin. He doesn’t particularly care either way as long as he stays uninvolved but does wish he would be more careful and take care of himself.
With meeting them Jisung went from being a complete nobody with no one to rely on to having three whole best friends that he feels like he’s known his whole life. While they are quick to make fun of him for his interests and bizarre behavior, the second anyone else does they become his biggest defenders. After all, no one else is allowed to make fun of their nerd. Of course people think it’s bizarre; a friend group of three relatively popular guys and one mega geek. None of them seem to care much; hanging out during lunch, walking together to and from classes, and even having fun sleepovers at the Seungsung house.
The house is a comfortable home, filled with plants and cute little framed photos of the besties neatly placed through the main room of the house. However when you get to Han’s areas it’s like a whole new world. Dark rooms with fantasy paintings and cool trinkets he has impulsively boughten because he absolutely HAD to have them. He has a cool office room with action figures and posters lining the walls. There’s bookshelfs with enough fantasy books to nearly put the library Seungmin works at to shame. On his desk sits a high tech computer he uses for his research and hacking. Oh and well, his programming job, of course.
He also has an extensive amount of folders and documents, both on his PC and in paper form neatly organized in a locked filing cabinet. They contain files and articles of all of the evidence and proof he has ever found to suggest supernatural beings and phenomena exist. Including confidential government records and documents he’s hacked into that could get him in some serious trouble if anyone ever found out about them.
His friends don’t know about these files of course. If they did they’d probably have him enrolled in the nearest psych ward. They’ve joked about it before, saying he is much too similar to a mad scientist obsessed with research to the point of it being a large safety concern. Despite knowing they were only kidding, merely poking fun at his baffling behavior, he would rather not risk it. Not like they would understand anyway.
He can’t really blame them for not understanding either. First of all, it is pretty crazy to want to live in a world with creatures and scenarios that a normal person would find terrifying, not to mention actually believing in such a far-fetched concept. Secondly, it’s not like he understands their hype of sports, photography, or fashion either. A bunch of sweaty guys running around and wrestling over balls? Standing there trying to find some perfect angle of some very basic uninteresting everyday object? Trying on a bunch of bizarrely styled clothes because it’s ‘so in right now’? Yeah, No thanks. Jisung usually zones out and goes into his (much more entertaining if you ask him) daydreams when they start talking about that kinda thing or somehow force him to attend one of their silly little events.
Which is exactly what is occurring right now. Walking a step behind his friends as they discuss a big baseball game coming up this week, perhaps a tournament of some kind. Jisung wouldn’t know, he’d tuned them out a good ten minutes ago now. Mindlessly fidgeting with the little pendants on his bag as the group of four made their way to the library to have a bit of a study sesh.
“Hey, Jisung…”
At the beginning of the term they had decided they would have little study dates at least twice a week. Hyunjin had had a tough semester at the end of the year, facing mental challenges and a rather difficult breakup of a two year relationship that had left him spiraling. This severely impacted his motivation and made it hard for him to stay on top of his coursework, thus his grades suffered severely. After failing two classes and barely passing the other two, his academic advisor had contacted him and warned him that if he did not do better this year and improve his grade point average he may be at risk of losing his art scholarship and perhaps even be remover from the art club or even his program all together.
He had come to his friends sobbing, completely heartbroken and disappointed with himself. He felt stupid and worthless and was fully convinced he was doomed, destined to fail and never amount to anything past being nice to look at. However Seungmin was having none of it, he insisted that it was only a bad semester. Hyunjin is not stupid, he’s not exactly Seungmin or Jisung level smart but he’s got the work ethic and creativity to make up for it and just because he struggled one semester due to some personal circumstances doesn’t mean he’s a complete failure and he can’t fix it. Therefore, Seungmin suggested that they all meet up two days of the week to just study. That way they can help each other out when someone is stuck on something and they can hold each other accountable for getting their work done.
And it was an excellent plan, really. Three months in and Hyunjin was already seeing significant progress in getting better grades and understanding the material. That paired with the extra time with his friends seems to have greatly improved the art major’s mental health too.
“..Are you even listening to me?”
Quite frankly, Jisung can’t really complain about it either. As much as he’d probably rather be buried in some fantasy books, he still enjoys spending time with his friends and it’s a good opportunity to get all his homework out of the way so he has more time for more important things like pretty mermaids.
“Han Jisung!” With a loud yell into his ear and a hefty smack upon the top of his head Jisung is broken out of his thoughts and he turns his head to the right to be met with aggravation filled dark brown eyes already trained on him.
“Ow! What the fuck?! What?” He stares at his tallest friend with a look of absolute offense and bewilderment.
“We’ve been trying to get your attention for the last 5 minutes!” He huffs annoyed and ruffles his hair while he watches Hyunjin shake his head and push open the door to the library.
“We should just leave him out next time.” His roommate chimes in unhelpfully, casting a mischievous smile Jisung’s way as he attempts to close the door in his face while he walks through. Jisung can’t stop his eyes from rolling in response.
He pushes the door back open and sticks his tongue out at the younger male. “Leave me out of what, exactly?” He tosses his bag on the floor and plops down lazily in a chair at their usual spot. Hidden from most of the rest of the library in a little cubby they have rented out for every Monday and Friday for the entire semester, curtesy of Kim Seungmin and his librarian privileges. The library is homey, quiet and it’s filled with plants, dark blue chairs and couches that are actually surprisingly comfortable.
“Oh we were just planning a hang out for this Saturday, your place obviously. We’re gonna have snacks and drinks and play some games.”
Jisung snaps his head towards Changbin in excitement. “Wait really?! I’ve been dying to do a smash bros tournament again!”
“That game sucks..” Seungmin groans, slouching in his seat.
“You only think that cause you’re shit at it.” Hyunjin’s giggle rings out through the small enclosed space as he jabs at the sulky younger male. “King of spamming random buttons and hoping for the best.”
“Oh shut up, you refuse to play as anyone but Peach Zelda or Kirby and throw a fit when anyone else plays as them. I don’t even wanna hear it out of you.” Jisung stiffles a laugh at their bickering and watches in amusement as Hyunjin gasps dramatically and lifts a hand to his mouth in offense while Seungmin rolls his eyes and groans for the second time. “Whatever this is stupid, does that mean you’re in or what?”
“You bet I am! I’m gonna beat all you losers!” He puffs his chest out in pride, a giddy smile creeping onto his face.
Changbin laughs, looking over at his friends with an expression softened in fondness. “Those two aren’t gonna be much of a challenge for you. But just know, I’ve been practicing.”
“Oh yeah? You know I love a challenge!” The nerd returns his fond smile with one of his own as they finally take out their books and laptops to begin their day of studying.

Had a weird idea for a fic idea. Percy Adopted AU
So. Imagine if James and Lily were a little older and had a 5y when Harry was born,
Percival (named after Dumbledore), middle name one of his Grandfathers who recently died Potter born August 22,
when they die because he knows about magic Dumbledore places him with the Weasleys.
Tells them that he found the child in a destroyed family and he was worried someone would come after him cause of who his parents were. They should tell people he was theirs biologically
The kids all know he is adopted but Ron literally forgets and they honestly kind of forgot.
This could also move into more of how Percy doesn’t feel like he’s part of his family.
Most 6y don’t know anything other then parents are Mom and Dad. He doesn’t know who they were and not helped by the fact no one called them James and Lily but Prongs and whatever nickname for her and since he was so young the memories are fuzzy af he is very confused. He does know he has a baby brother and thought he died in the “fire/attack on his muggleborn parents” as he was told
This could also explain why Peter came to him. Guilt and felt he had to look out for him,
What he does remember is the feeling of being loved, laughter, one of the paintings he loved to stare at. The stars on his rooms roof. Having a giant fluffy dog he would cuddle with. A sorta rough voice reading to him. Maybe a Deer that would break in, red hair and the sound of laughter.
If he tries harder to remember his nightmares get worse. He was there when it happened. Watched his parents killed and his brother almost killed. Trauma also one of the reasons he doesn’t remember his family,
Things that happened living with his parents that he doesn’t remember
Knowing Snape and McGonagall. He and Lily reconciled and she introduced them when he was a baby and he used to call Snape Sevy and McGonagall Granny. She was not pleased
Would visit his grandparents - his Moms Dad who passed right before he was born.
I am on the side of the headcannon that Mrs Potter is from India. Idc about Cannon and that he actually visited where he was from when he was 3. He’s still Red Hair and pale, unlike Harry
Was babysat by all three other marauders a lot. Like Fully feel Sirius and Remus lived with them with Peter visiting a lot ( he was offered a room but his Moms health isn’t good) he was just as much a friend as the rest. That’s the tragedy of it all.
Has pulled on Dumbledores beard as a baby. Got a hand in it and wouldn’t let go till it was time to eat. James thought it was Hilarious. Lily not so much.
There is a photo of once when Severus and Sirius were forced to jointly baby sit they bonded over motorcycles ( I HC Snape has one) and they are working on it in Leather jacket and Percy is wearing a tiny leather jacket joining them. Lily came to pick him up.
Also one showing how Snape has no idea how to hold a kid and is legit hold him like a sack of potatoes under his arm,
Cue 1st year and Snape and McGonagall are like 🤨🤨 hmmm and side eyes this little first year and side eye Dumbledore and he eventually tells them but he makes them promise not to reveal it.
Cue 5th year and he meets Harry. Basically like the books where he treats him like family. Cause he did. He’s always been kind to Harry. He feels like he’s familiar but that’s cause he’s famous, right?
But then cue 7th year! Harry’s 3rd
He meets Professor Lupin and. There’s just SOMETHING about him and WHY does he look so darn familiar, and when he reads experts to the class he feels like a kid again,
While Remus is freaking out cause he was told his pseudo God Kid (both he and Harry are technically Sirius’s but if Remus was allowed to be he would be as well) was killed, and here’s a 17y version with Lillys hair and James eyes and Fleamonts face,
Percy would ask Dumbledore if he knew why Professor Lupin looked family and he would shrug at this technically a adult who has every right to know but Dumbledore the anxious king is worried
Later after he leaves cue Remus storming going “bitch what the fuck” okay but going “you told me Percival was dead! He’s not” and Dumbledore goes on a spiel of how it would only put him in danger if anyone else knew, cause he was the only witness to that night and even he himself doesn’t know. And no you can’t tell him.
Remus goes 😑 and comes up with a plan to get the kids to figure it out themselves, cause he was told “tell them and your fired. I’m sorry”
Like asking Harry if he knows he had a brother, and he did but none of the pictures he was given show him/removed from the images, Remus goes “huh I was sure he was in this one” and Hermione uses Revelio and whoa!
And like more shenanigans, Percy eventually figures it out. Remus told him of a way that he could access files about himself cause he’s not legally dead. It’s a rumour Dumbledore spread, cue intense panic and weirdness from him
eventually Peter ends up sorta telling Harry cause the whole Sirius Peter thing happens and Sirius thinks Percy is dead and yelled that Peter might as have killed him and he’s like “he’s not! He was adopted by the Weasleys!” And Ron and Harry are like 👁️👄👁️
Cue more shenanigans and an awkward convo between them, Ron’s like “Harry this means you are technically family!!” And then this is where it would deviate more from cannon cause till this point it’s pretty on point
Thoughts?
#harry potter#percy weasley#minerva mcgonagall#dumbledore#severus#Arthur didn’t even notice and was like huh my math must be wrong#hello son

Scratch-Todd Wraith foreshadowing list
-Scratch and Todd sharing the same voice actor (Dana Snyder) in one episode -Scratch and Todd sharing similarities in character design, mainly head and face. -Scratch and Todd often showing in the same scenes in some episodes from Season 1 -The fact that Todd is always seen more ¨dead like¨ than other human characters -Scratch talking about how Todd looks like he has ¨no soul¨ in ¨The Jig is Up¨ when he is talking to Jinx. This is one of the most explicit examples. -Libby's book from ¨Molly vs The Ghost World¨ explaining that there are two ways for wraiths to happen. One is when a human ¨gives up their ghost¨ and other in ¨also¨ that they can happen when they go through a portal. The other aspect that the book says is that the ¨wraiths can exist both in the human and ghost plane¨ -Scratch lacking a proper name like other ghosts -Scratch not being able to remember his past unlike the rest of the ghosts. This was going to be explored more with Ollie becoming the new Chairman in Season 3 -Scratch not being able to remember his death in ¨The Many Lives of Scratch¨, because technically he didn't ¨die¨ and became a ghost like regular ghosts do -Molly talking about how Scratch lived and died on Brighton in ¨The Many Lives of Scratch¨ -The monkey from Scratch's mind in ¨All In The Mind¨ resembles Todd. Scratch showed to be very scared of the monkey and avoid the topic when Molly asked him about it. -Todd giving away things that were shown in Adia's second flashback like pyramids and stars to Weird Larry in ¨The Internship¨. -While not as linked to the theory, the whole navy decoration that Scratch has in his dollhouse and him pretending to be captain in ¨All Shark No Bite¨. This has to do with his dream of wishing to travel with Adia and the games they played together as kids.

Quick question because I don't remember castle in the sky: is it specified that Lettie gave birth to the kid? Or it could be very well some crazy kinda plot in which this random kid appears in the lives of the three (justiman and Lettie) and now they have to navigate raising a kid while defeating all society expectancies of non biological child/Lettie and Ben are not really together/Justin and Ben are so gay/Lettie wants to be an independent witch/ what the hell is going on? Because god I'd read a magic comedy with this plot I love people who are not on love and who were not supposed to be devoting parents suddenly having to raise a child without getting together in the end (+ Justin of course the poor boy)
Thanks for the question, you're always welcome!!
Unfortunately, it was specified, even a bit too much to describe, that Lettie gave birth to a child. In fact, when we first see her and Ben in chapter fifteen, she's pregnant. Wich actually a bit concerning because CITA happened exactly one year after the first book (as Morgan, Howl and Sophie's son, is born somewhere in the middle of CITA and he's known to be two in HoMW, time difference between wich and HMC is stated to be three years) and Lettie was seventeen in HMC as she's stated to be one year younger that Sophie who is most likely eighteen there. And that is... not the best math possible, actually.
(also that's probably my personal preference but this scene is so "not it" to be lmao, like that's probably because of the smallest amount of development their pairing had, but it's just feels unrealistic or staged for unknown reason, for me at least)
This moment is stated in the end of the book and is just...there. The only fun joke it leads to is Sophie saying "she knew she was bound to be an aunt" wich is, she is.
(Although with Martha wanting ten kinds and Neil and Mari being technically a part of her family it's strangely hilarious she thought she WASN'T bound to be an aunt?)
The child doesn't even have a name, just being called "a girl with no ill effects at all" and, unlike Morgan, born about the same time, doesn't have any other mentions in the series, at all. The reason for her existence is a mystery for me. There's no plot/practical reason except for "they had a child, cool!"/nonneg
AND THE CONCEPT YOU OFFERED IS SO MUCH BETTER!!
This is something really DWJ-like in this absolutely random group of people having to raise a child no one planned would exist. And probably the only way I'd imagine Lettie being a mother or a wife (I should make a separate post about Lettie honestly I love her so much). She didn't want to be there, but that's what happens when you randomly decided to marry a Royal Wizard for a "why not' reason.
And, according to Ukrainian translation of HMC that described Ben and Justin as "inseparable" (in original it just said "great buddies" wich is also funny but not that much😔) you kinda you get Justin complete with Ben. Just like Sophie and Howl, two-in-one exclusive offer!
As I said that's all Hatter sisters do — defeating social expectations.
(Justin and Ben are really gay I guess If you're not random Ingarian citizen you can clearly see it lol)
Also this lines up with my little concept of Justing running from married life (yes he got married in CITA. Don't ask me how, that was... rather odd, especially because he run from the same marriage canonically a couple of weeks before it happened) and just having to stay with Ben because the Kind would have just destroyed him If he'd returned to the palace. And so they have to just... live together even though Lettie is not the part of the club, she just wants to learn witchcraft in peace.
And now there's a child absolutely announced. And no one can explain how. Or why.
Yeah, I would pay to read that. Probably even write myself.
#inbox#ask#I LOVE YOUR CONCEPTS AND VISIONS SM YOU'RE SUCH A GENIUS#/pos srs!!#MORE JUSTIMAN AGENDA DJSD#MORE BEN AND LETTIE AS BESTIES AGENDA!!#howl's moving castle book#hmc book#hmc#howl's moving castle#lettie hatter#ben sullivan#wizard suliman#prince justin#justin of ingary

I have been thinking that Noe isn't a full vampire for quite sometime, that even if he is he wouldn't be called a vampire but something else but I've never been able to find anything to back myself up.
Until we got introduced to the story he read as a child, a story he and Richie bond over reading in chapter 62.2, The adventures of Kresnik.
As the idea is presented to us is Kresnik was a Dham that solved mysteries between the humans and vampires with golden eyes and the ability to neutralise other Vampire abilities.
We also learn these books would of have to of been printed on the sly, which again adds layers to how Noe had the story as a child. Meaning his teacher was the one to obtain this tale, which is no surprise when we find out who the author is.
As we know Noe has abilities unlike any other Vampire even outside of his ability to read memories, pointed out by Domi who in one of her first appearances with Vanitas, assumed vanitas wanted to use Noes 'abilities' not just ability.
Though he obviously doesn't have gold eyes or the ability to neutralise other vampires [as far as we know] we also have another mystery that may tie into golden eyes. The fact that as a kid he appeared with a bandage over his eye for quite some time.
and If Noe and Marquis Machina are both Archivistes that adds more layers to Teacher pointing out how she doesn't need to act with her former dignity around him [former as though referring to before the genocide of the Archivisites]
Also the appearance of Marquis Machina before Noe was also suspicious. Though the teacher claimed she was around due to the attacks on humans for her to appear in front of Noe was purposeful. As though checking on him.
I have many theories on this so please buckle in.
Theory 1. Noe is or related to Kresnik. 1. Kresnik they point out was a very kind but foolish character something we see with Noe. He helped both humans and vampires. That Marquis Machina can see the future and create this story based on it or knew the original Kresnik
Which would explain why Teacher knew where Noe was and when in order to get him from the auction.
Theory 2: Kresnik is going to be the one giving this drug around. I did some digging and found Kresniks are mentioned in quite a few vampire media's.
But if we look at the actual term kresnik
A god of the sun, opposed to the moon this may be the first major mention of a character that represents the sun.
Then if we look at vamoire media and its relationship with a similar term
Both scream- oh no. To me for if these were used as inspiration we could see a new villian enter the scene. Or Noe himself of a Crusnik.
We see him as a kid drink Louis blood. He also drinks Domi. He often thinks if blood though vampires don't need to drink it to live. And as we see. Noe is stronger than ither vampires. Regenerating limbs. Having insane strength without training. And not to mention that fight with vanitas in which his hand takes the almost claw like monster form.
Theory 3. Aka my most backshit insane theory.
The theory that all of this is a time loop. That the teacher and Marquis Machina watch time and time again with one thing changing slightly every time. That everything that is happening. Is a story. The story of a Kresnik.
And if Noe was suppose to be Kresnik in this tale the thing that changed was the teacher taking him in. Completely derailing the course his story was meant to take. And the teachers instance on freewill. Is to see if the story will get itself back in track without any intervention. If everything truely is inevitable.
Not to mention we still don't know Noes true name.

obsessed with your tags, talk mdzs at me pls
Uh.
1) thank you, I really just put the random thoughts I have in the tags and/or accidentally steal other people’s tags
2) some thoughts about mdzs below the cut (I have a lot of thoughts about this novel) ye ask any ye shall receive. If you want to hear my thoughts on something specific plz ask :3
• My fav characters in MDZS are Wei Wuxian and Nie Huaisang. I love how WWX can be very complicated when he wants to be and has many layers and sides to him. Like, the fandom likes to simplify his character to someone self deprecating but always smiling but he is very complex. He acknowledges his faults and has only tried to do what he deemed right at the time even if he regrets what he does in hindsight. He isn’t infallible. He literally tortured a man to death (even if it felt right to do it considering said man orchestrated a massacre and tossed him into a literal pit of suffering to die in) and was a major player in a WAR. He’s probably killed more than he can count. I feel like a lot of people forget that the main cast is a bunch of war heroes that must’ve had insane kill counts. Including LWJ. It’s quite tragic that none of them really had any good authority figures to lead them seeing as the majority of them were at most 20~30ish and cultivators usually live extremely long lives (at least, that’s my assumption) anyhow, WWX is very aware of his faults, especially post-resurrection as he did kinda fuck up when he accidentally killed JZX. He acknowledges that and makes an effort to apologize and atone. That being said, his faults don’t stop him from being confident and above all likable. Yes he can be annoying but he does know how to behave himself probably better than most (unlike what many members of the fandom like to think). He knows his position well and that it is incredibly precarious (in both lives) but still manages to fit in well enough with essentially nobility that he is good competition for the best in his generation. He is a genius and a great leader and that isn’t stressed enough. Though I think one of the small details in his character that I think gets overlooked is how he “parents” A-Yuan in the burial mounds. Because for as immature as he is when he’s burying A-Yuan in the ground, he also knows that he isn’t the only one caring for A-Yuan and therefore is allowed to be silly but when they’re out at the market and A-Yuan asks for a toy he makes the mature decision to save his money (although LWJ spoils the kid immediately after). This reflects a lot on WWX because it shows he can be very mature when he needs to be but when he doesn’t need to be he’ll happily rely on others. It also reflects on his upbringing showing he knows how important money is (in contrast to the lans who are shown on various occasions to not really think about money much) Personally I love his character because he seems like a person I’d get along with if he were real (which, the incredible writing makes his seems very realistic) meanwhile my other favorite, Nie Huaisang, I love because he is misleading. Some of my favorite fictional characters are very misleading because of the masks they put up to fool people to achieve their goals. How a character will know more than they should but not let anyone know until the moment is right. NHS is someone who is easily underestimated because he seems helpless and unintelligent. And yeah, for a majority of his life he really didn’t care to further his education or really practice cultivation but later he takes this preconceived notion that everyone has of him and uses it to his advantage so nobody suspects a thing while he plans JGY’s downfall. It’s a scarily intelligent move and I think the fact that he takes pleasure in looking at art/books really adds to the fact of how intelligent he is. Most people see his art as pointless hobbies but I think it says a lot about the qualities of his character. I think a lot of people take for granted the patience it takes to make good art or the intelligence it takes to appreciate good literature. So when NHS's older brother dies under mysterious circumstances that just so happen to help the Jins? of course he catches on! He proceeds to keep his enemy close for over a decade until he finally gets his moment of revenge. Which, to me? Props, man. plus only one person even realizes what happened. WWX.
Some things I don’t particularly like about MDZS (some people may yell at me for this and I'm sorry but this is my opinion):
- how weird the yi city arc felt? It feels very out of place as we go on this whole journey to learn about all these people and what happened to them but after that they are pretty much no longer relevant. I only found out later that the yi city arc was initially intended to be its own story. So that might be why.
- how certain things are just *left* and never touched on again? We hear all this stuff about baoshan sanren but we never see her or really learn much about her at all. Similarly, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji’s parents? We hear all these things about them but never learn much at all. Which is weird all things considered when you look at it. It feels like a lot of background info for not much payoff. Yes, it gives us a lot of vital information on why things played out the way they did but it doesn’t stop the feeling that there should’ve been more. Part of me appreciated it though because it gives us no more information than the characters really have. Just passing information that is common knowledge but never really looked into just like many actual people have.
- how everything ended off. So we have that whole scene at the temple and then everything just… calms down? They all go home??? It felt anticlimactic. Especially with Nie Huaisang’s character as (in the novel at least) it sets him up to be the next chief cultivator despite being just as, if not more, sneaky than Jin Guangyao. And that’s probably intentional. The chief cultivator position was likely never meant to be a position of absolute good. It’s politics. But it is a bit weird that we never really see what happens to Nie Huaisang after, post revenge and all.
#weirdocat83 ramblings#mdzs#mo dao zu shi#wei wuxian#nie huaisang#i have so many thoughts#it isn't even funny#I am critiquing this novel#and that is because I love it#plz don't yell at me for my opinions

What's your view on Claude as emperor? We know he's described to be a tyrant.
Claude is incompetent. He's both paranoid and at times extremely careless. He ignores opportunities presented to him that could solve his problems and instead chooses to make things worse than they could have been. On top of that he's suicidal and has no problems to drag people into hell with him. The last one is a hc/my interpretation of the succession crisis in the lp verse I'll elaborate:
Claude outlawed black magic and then used black magic on himself, meaning if he had been meticulous an entire branch of science is about to go extinct, there would be no black magician left who could help him in case he suffered the side effects and even if there was they would be unlikely to reveal themeselves since that would mean admitting they had been practicing the arts illegally in hiding all the time. Moreover Claude didn't see that the law would be followed through. Is the usage of black magic prohibited but not the theoretical teaching of black magic or the distribution of books that concentrate on this specific topic? Why is there a former black magician selling books on dark magic in the capital city? Is this allowed?
Had Claude made good on his promise to kill any magician who couldn't heal Athy it might've resulted in a shortage of magicians (who are already rare). Furthermore his readiness to kill anyone who annoys him would eventually lead turned down job offers, empty spaces in the staff and a burn-out of those that stayed and were given the work that was meant for their colleagues. It might make Obelia more vulnerable to attacks depending on if magicians are used in the military or not.
He allowed someone like Lucas to be Athy's playmate. He said it was okay because Felix didn't find anything suspicious about him when he investigated him. Shouldn't the fact that they found out nothing about him make him suspicious enough? Magicians in Obelia must be registered. I would find it concerning that there was a powerful magician kid running around the palace that somehow managed to evade the radar of every known organization. Lucas is unable to name any parent, teacher or guardian, he has no adress, passport, isn't registered anywhere, the academic circles have never heard about him, he has no school report, reference or recommendation. Should Lucas have forged a document this too calls in question Claude's competence. If not even the Emperor of Obelia is able to tell an enchanted paper from a real one then how are the citizen of Obelia supposed to tell conjured money from real money and can be expected to be held accountable if they unknowingly pay someone with fake coins?
The employment of maids that would steal from and abuse a princess, classist/racist teachers (Athy's dancing teacher for example) and guards that don't take their duty seriously and allow a stranger to walk into the princess' private quarters. Also making his own sworn shield Athy's guard as well. In case of an attack it's impossible for Felix to protect both of them. Claude and Athy are not always in the same room together. They aren't even living in the same palace. Did Claude expect Felix to multiply somehow?
When he was about to gift the Imperial seal to child Athy and then just threw it after Felix. That was irresponsible. There is a reason why royal seals used to be rings and were kept on your own body. Anyone could have taken the seal and issued orders with the power borrowed with his name.
Why tf is there a mana eating plant living on palace grounds. Was the Graeco-Roman tyrant aesthetic not enough for you, Claude?
Torture and mutilation is legal in Obelia even though it's a known fact that torture is useless since most people will say anything under torture to make it stop. Are we in the middle ages? What law of Claude is exactly progressive? Apparently sexism still exists even though the first ruler of Obelia was literally a woman (queen Ambrose)? Whose fault is it?
Not arranging a betrothal for Athy or at least a dancing partner for LP Athy. Claude couldn't have known about Jennette's appearance, which means most likely Athy would have become his successor. How would Athy gain the noble's respect if she didn't even have a companion at her own debutante ball on top of everything else? Everything he did sabotaged her future reign. Isn't the point of a debutante partly to find a good match for your daughter if she isn't already promised to someone? It would have also been a clever way to get rid of her and forge connections.
LP Athy's rushed execution casts doubt on his capabilities as a ruler in the eyes of everyone. It is said that Claude was a just and wise ruler. This image shatters however when it is revealed that Claude ordered the execution of someone innocent. His own daughter and no less. And to make it worse he doesn't care that he executed the wrong person, doesn't look for the real culprit or punishes those that wanted to see LP Athy gone. How can you still believe in justice in Obelia? That a mere countess could influence Emperor's actions must mean he's either stupid or callous. If even a royal isn't safe from a mock trial that means no one really is. Confessions can be coerced, legal steps be skipped, unusal punishments are now possible outcomes. (remember Rosalia only aimed for Athy to be exiled. That her execution was a surprise to even her must mean something about the laws and usual proceedings that Claude ignored).
The succession crisis in the Lovely Princess that shouldn't have been a succession crisis in the first place since Jennette had the greater claim. What was the plan before Jennette entered the palace? Claude hated Athy, would he have wanted her to be his heir? If not then why didn't he look into who else was availible to him as a potential successor? Any noble that could have been adopted into his family? Competent advisors? Distant relatives? Eventual remarriage or one-night stand that could produce him an heir? To my knowledge neither Athy nor Jennette were taught how to rule a country. He didn't name Jennette his heir or made Athy and the lords swear fealty to her. I'm certain he didn't write a testament either.
So Claude refuses to name a heir and continues to neglect his health through alcohol, working overtime, and sleep deprivation. This man was not planning to make it to his old age.
I saw someone suggesting Claude making himself immortal to prove a point and I don't think he would do it. In my opinion Claude didn't want to be immortal. He hated his life until he met LPJennette/WMMAPAthy. I also think he didn't give a fuck about Obelia since he never made an effort to secure the succession. It was obvious that he favoured Jennette in the Lovely Princess yet she was never made crown princess until Rosalia stepped in and framed Athy for attempted murder. I think he meant for Obelia to perish with him. He did almost everything on his own, and while yes this was partly because he trusted no one and was not a team player it could have been also because the smarter people at court would be aware that after his death everything would have been in shambles. They'd refrain from further assassination attempts.
What would follow after Claude's death wasn't his problem, it didn't concern him at all. And that's terrifying. That's what makes him unfit as a ruler. He just doesn't care about his country or his people. Their plight merely exists to lift him from boredom. Their well-being is only ensured as long as he lives and not beyond that. Intentional or not LP Athy and Jennette were set up for failure through his actions or his lack of thereof.

You don’t know me or what I’ve said about Maya’s book an everything she is alluding to in the press. I’m staying anonymous because I’ve seen how quick you have been to judge Liam and everyone connected to this situation. You have already wrongfully assumed a lot about me. I’ve read and posted quite a bit about both the problems with the anti abortion message that Maya is pushing, and the problems with men that push their partners to get abortions they don’t want. I haven’t seen you say one word about either. 😏 so yeah, you seem to be more concerned about canceling Liam than helping victims. And as woman who dated men in Texas and lived there during the pandemic, I also have a personal connections to the issues Maya is talking about in a way most of this fandom does not. But stay comfortable on your high horse and continue to ignore naunce and all opinions that differ from yours if you’re so sure of yourself.
i was going to ignore this but these empty ass arguments are making me lauggggh
"I’m staying anonymous because I’ve seen how quick you have been to judge Liam and everyone connected to this situation"
literally WHERE have i been judging anyone other than liam lmao. in fact, your last message was all about trying to get a "gotcha!" moment out of me still reblogging louis and me responding that i am not going to hold something against louis until i actually know his stance, so i'm not jumping on "everyone connected to the situation". me partially disagreeing with anons who come into my ask box presumably to hear what i have to say is not me jumping down anyone's throat, unlike you actively coming into my inbox accusing me of random shit because you can't comprehend that someone can legitimately care about a very serious issue like domestic abuse and believing victims who come forward with their story.
"I’ve read and posted quite a bit about both the problems with the anti abortion message that Maya is pushing, and the problems with men that push their partners to get abortions they don’t want. I haven’t seen you say one word about either. so yeah, you seem to be more concerned about canceling Liam than helping victims."
first off, the only thing she said about the abortion in her interview was that it was painful, there were complications, she had to go in to the hospital for her complications alone, that it felt lonely for a man to speak as if it was no big deal when they don't actually know what it's like to go through an abortion, and that if she hadn't been pressured to get an abortion, she wouldn't have done it. none of that is inherently anti-choice, she is speaking of her own experience and how her choice was taken away by someone who minimized it and acted like the process was no big deal for his own benefit because he didn't want another kid. you can be pro-choice and still find it distressing to hear your partner dismiss your concerns and then not even accompany you to the hospital (after being given an ultimatum to have the abortion in the first place) when you experience complications. i don't know anything personal about maya so i have no clue if she is anti-choice, but no matter her position on abortion in general, it is still can absolutely be traumatic to ANYONE to be pressured into an abortion they don't want and then ignored by their partner through the process.
secondly, that is so wild to say that me not specifically discussing the abortion part of her story means i don't care about victims when it seems all you want to do is question her credibility. the fucking weirdest line of thinking to go "wow you didn't pick apart and criticize what she said about her abortion experience like I did, which means you don't care about victims" does not... make sense lmfao. all my discussions about this entire situation came specifically from anons talking about the addiction component and me giving my thoughts on that aspect, so the abortion was never an active part of the discussion, but i was never ignoring it. i have always considered it to be one of the traumatic scenarios she went through with him and was included whenever i spoke about abuse. i care about her as a victim enough to not question her credibility like you are doing all over your blog (which i do know, because i already saw your same tired arguments on my dash in your tags earlier before i unfollowed you) where you are minimizing her experience, taking jabs at her, acting like the potential of her being anti-choice is at all relevant to a discussion about domestic abuse and her being pressured into an abortion she didn't want, and trying to say it's not "in liam's character" to pressure her into an abortion, which is ridiculous when you have never even had a conversation with him in your life. one of the cornerstones of caring about victims is recognizing that abuse can happen even when the person seems nice in other contexts.
anyway, fuck off.

My take/version of the families/ships in the Adventure 02 Epilogue for my WIP: Part 1
Digimon was one of the many shows of my childhood. Despite the fact that none of my ships were "canon" in the epilogue (RIP Taiora, Takari, Daikari, Koumi, hell maybe Jyouora or Jyoumi), I still didn't mind it. My main issues were with many of the professions (mostly with the female characters, who all had ideal, stereotypical, feminine jobs).
Anyway, here's how I have the families play out for my WIP. Under the cut are the Adventure 01 kids (minus TK and Kari).
Tai and Meiko:
Okay, so don't kill me, but I thought/think they were/could be cute. There's potential here, and since Taiora didn't happen, why couldn't they? The stares and nods in the beginning of Tri were cute! Hot-heated leader x shy, new girl could learn a lot from one another. They both have a tendency to blame themselves for things out of their control, they both had their Digimon partners digivolve uncontrollably (on multiple occasions). Tri left crumbs for these two, they just weren't aware that the crumbs were stale lmao.
Tai would go pro in soccer, retire, and eventually become a Digiworld field agent for the National Data Processing Bureau; transporting back and forth and responding to Digimon related emergencies both in the Digiworld and the human world. He'd eventually move up and become a Special Agent in Charge in the Digiworld Enforcement division.
Meiko works at the Digital Center for Virus Control and Prevention as the Executive Assistant Director, to ensure other Digimon don't become infected like Meicoomon.
They have one son together, named Makoto.
Sora and Matt:
Again, don't kill me, but even as a Taiora shipper, Sorato could make sense.
Fashion design for Sora was definitely...a choice. I'm all for Sora becoming more in tuned with her femininity, just not at the cause of her actual character and interests. So instead, I'd have her go pro in Tennis. Afterwards, she'd help her mother run the flower shop. She would also be a volunteer agent for the NDPB, stepping in for emergencies when needed.
Matt manages to stick with a band and finds relative success, partly due to being one of the OG Digidestined. Afterwards, the band retires and Matt goes solo for a bit, he even releases a pop-rock collab with Mimi. He eventually throws in the towel and launches his own music label and opens a listening bar with live music from his own acts. He occasionally performs there if he's feeling nostalgic. Like his wife, he too is a volunteer agent for the NDPB.
Despite their stubbornness, which made their marriage a bit rockier than most, the two are still happily married with two kids; a daughter named Mizuki and a son named Shinji.
Izzy and Mimi:
Now, unlike the other two, these two would get together somewhat unconventionally (and angsty).
Initially, Mimi would marry Michael while Izzy married another woman. Mimi would be an idol, a worldwide celebrity with many ventures in the entertainment industry (a book biography on the events of Digimon Adventure from her POV, a cooking show where she invites celebrities, an occasional voice actress, performed in quite a few live theatre productions, owns a fashion line, etc.)! An actor and singer well known in both worlds, both in America and Japan, on top of being one of the Original 12 Digidestined who is a volunteer agent whenever an emergency strikes. She even became an ambassador, to meditate between the Digital World and the human world seeing as she was the one to rally allies toward the end of Adventure. Michael, being the son of a famous action star already, would eventually get tired of all the attention it came with being her husband (not to mention how busy her hectic schedule is). This would lead to Mimi and Michael bickering, which would lead to resentment, which would then lead to divorce.
All the while, Izzy and his unnamed wife, who he had met in college, would be happily married until her untimely death in a car accident. Umeko was only three years old. For a while, Izzy buried himself in his work as the new head of the Digital World Cybersecurity division at the NDPB, as well as being a scientist and researcher at the Digital Center for Virus Control and Prevention, being a television Digital Consultant, and giving an occasional lectures at universities. Mimi, in the midst of her divorce, would reach out to an overworked Izzy. While Izzy denied it, Mimi would offer a helping hand or just an ear for him to vent to. Izzy's cold and distant shell eventually cracked, and the two bonded over their tumultuous marriages and busy work schedules. The two officially started dating two years prior to the events of the Epilogue, and remarried when Umeko (Izzy's biological daughter, who he calls Mech for short) was 8 and Akihiko (Mimi and Michael's biological son) was 9, a year prior to the beginning of the WIP.
Both Umeko and Akihiko were fine with their parents remarrying, and accepted each other as siblings seeing as they were friends prior. Mimi and Michael are now civil (as are Michael and Izzy) and Akihiko and Michael speak almost every day. Occasionally, he visits his dad in America during the holidays.
Joe:
Joe's pretty easy. He married the girlfriend he was dating in Digimon Adventure Tri, the bike girl from the Digimon Adventure 02 movie. He and Chieko (the name I'm giving her) both become family doctors, while Joe also becomes one of the first human doctors with Digimon patients.
They have one son together, named Yuji.

Why I don't think Visenya hated Rhaenys as many believe
Rhaenys Targaryen and Visenya Targaryen are the sister-wives of Aegon The Conquerer whom they help during the westerosi conquest. There is little to known about the relationship between Visenya and Rhaenys and more with their relationship with their husband. Because of this, people have an idea of how the relationship between them may be like.
It's been said that Aegon married Visenya for duty while he married Rhaenys for desire. Then you have the part where it says Aegon spends his nights more with Rhaenys than with Visenya. So, It gives us a picture that Visenya was never good for aegon, which is why he went and married Rhaenys, which cause Visenya resent Rhaenys because of it.
However, the thing is, many historical books are written about the two women from biased and westeroes historians. In any description, Rhaenys is seen as positive while Visenya has negativity. This is because Rhaenys was feminine than her sister. Visenya was a warrior, and female warriors were uncommon in westeroes. She didn't fit into the westeroesi beauty, unlike her sister, Rhaenys, who does.
Westeroes, as well as the faith militant, never accepted polygamous marriage and believed that Aegon couldn't love both of his sisters equally but had to favour one of the other. Since Rhaenys was more feminine and fit the westeroesi standard than her sister, Visenya. They saw this as an opportunity to make it look like Aegon doesn't love Visenya because of the fact that she is similar to him while Rhaenys is the complete opposite, which is why he desires her the most.
I believe that there are many cases where fire and blood have been wrong. There are even some mysteries like the murder or Lyonel and Harwin Strong or what happened to Aerea Targaryen and Balerion. I truly believe that Aemond killing Luke was an accident. I don't think Aemond wanted Luke dead, but I rather wanted to scare him. The reason why he went after Luke is because one of the baratheon girls was mocking him. There also have been many times when a dragon has disobeyed their rider.
Rhaenys also died young, which appears to be a way for historians like the maesters, septan, and many more to write positively about Rhaenys. If Rhaenys lives like her siblings. How would she be written. The reason why I don't believe that Visenya hated Rhaenys is because Visenya is shown to be very protective over her siblings.
When finding out that Meraxes was killed by Dorne along and the possibility that Rhaenys herself had also died. Both Visenya and Aegon were grief stricken by it. Both of them set many cities of dorne ablaze with the exception of sunspear. Visenya also became very protective of her brother/ husband, Aegon. She created the kingsgaurd, whose duty to protect and honour the king and his family. I think after Rhaeny's death, Visenya didn't want to lose Aegon in the same fate. Visenya is the oldest, and her job is to protect and defend them.
Aegon didn't marry again even though many told him to because they believed that his son, Aenys, who is Rhaenys' son, won't survived and Visenya hasn't gotten pregnant yet. That is why I don't believe the whole Aegon spending the night with Rhaenys 10 times more than Visenya. If he was, Rhaenys would have had 3 kids instead of the one.
I do think Visenya probably feels an insecurity that she couldn't give Aegon, a son earlier in their marriage. She probably feels more like failure as a wife but moreso as his first wife. If Maegor was born first, then none of the wars would happen. Visenya dislike towards Aenys, is more of the fact that he doesn't use his power as a targaryen dragon rider and let's people walk all over him. Not to mention that he took Maegor's title as Prince of dragonstone and gives it to his son, Aegon. Dragonstone was pretty much Visenya's home. She spent her time there more often and even raised Maegor. She probably taught him the responsibilities when it's time for him to become the lord of dragonstone.
I don't think Visenya killed Aenys as many people believe. Yes, she had disagreements with him and believed that he's not fight to rule because Westeroes needed someone like her husband, Aegon. But I don't think she would kill the only thing that she has left of her sister.

Bella Swan Was A Rich Bitch
I’m slowly making my way through the Twilight series for the first time since 2009 and I have a lot of thoughts. Here are some:
Bella claims she grew up poor. I disagree. I think she grew up at the very least middle class for the USA, despite being raised by a single mother.
(We all know Charlie paid that child support on time.)
Firstly, she grew up in a house, which her mother seems to own, as there is no mention of a landlord or paying rent.
Renée even leaves this property unattended for months on end while she lives in another state with her husband, Phil. When Bella returns to the house at the end of Twilight, it’s empty, so Renée didn’t need to rent it out during her absence and, presumably, simply owns two different properties simultaneously.
She’s even still paying the electric and phone bills, as Bella can turn on the lights and use the phone although the house has been empty for months. (p. 476)
This house, I imagine, had more than one bathroom, as sharing a bathroom with a parent is embarrassing to Bella.
When describing Charlie’s house, Bella says, “There was only one small bathroom at the top of the stairs, which I would have to share with Charlie. I was trying not to dwell too much on that fact.” (p. 9)
She finds it foreign and off-putting to share a bathroom with someone, to the point that she keeps all her toiletries in a bag that she stores in her bedroom, and brings the bag with her to the bathroom whenever she goes. She is described doing this multiple times over the course of the book.
The book takes place c. 2005, and Bella has a computer with internet access. She accepts these as given, rather than privileges. “The only changes Charlie had ever made were switching the crib for a bed and adding a desk as I grew. The desk now held a secondhand computer, with the phone line for the modem stapled along the floor to the nearest phone jack. This was a stipulation from my mother, so that we could stay in touch easily.” (p. 9)
The author repeatedly uses the marker “secondhand” to insinuate Bella’s relative poverty, but the mere fact she has a computer of her own, as well as home internet access, sets her apart from truly socioeconomically disadvantaged kids.
Bella participated in at least one extra-curricular activity as a child.
And a very expensive one at that: ballet. (p. 454)
Come on.
Bella and her mother have a piano.
“I suddenly remembered my childhood fantasy that, should I ever win a lottery, I would buy a grand piano for my mother. She wasn’t really good—she only played for herself on our secondhand upright—but I loved to watch her play.” (p. 351)
The author makes a point of mentioning it’s an upright piano (cheaper than a grand) and that it’s secondhand. However, unless the piano came with their house, they would have had to pay for the piano itself (often several thousand dollars for a used upright) as well as to transport it to their home (professional transportation of pianos can also cost several thousand dollars). Pianos require maintenance/tuning (usually a couple hundred dollars per tuning session), which are additional costs. Unlike a ukulele or a fife, a piano is not a cheap instrument to own or play and there are more than upfront costs.
Her mother has nice clothes, and pays to maintain them.
Bella’s mother e-mails her asking whether she knows where her pink blouse is. Bella responds, “Your blouse is at the dry cleaners—you were supposed to pick it up Friday.” (p. 34)
Dry cleaning a blouse implies that not only it is made from an expensive material (silk, chiffon, linen, suede, leather, etc.), but also that the owner has the monetary resources, time, and transportation to bring it to a dry cleaner and pay someone to clean it for them.
Bella doesn’t bother to bring most of her clothes with her when she moves to Forks.
“I had only a few bags. Most of my Arizona clothes were too permeable for Washington. My mom and I had pooled our resources to supplement my winter wardrobe, but it was still scanty. It all fit easily into the trunk of the cruiser.” (p. 5)
It seems odd to me that Bella never thought about layering her lighter clothing in Washington, particularly because this was written in the early 2000s. I think the “my mom and I had pooled our resources” line is an attempt by the author to demonstrate they don’t have money to buy her new clothes, however, when she gets to Forks, Bella has enough pocket money to consider doing some shopping on a trip to Seattle later in the book. (p. 160)
Bella, who notoriously feels guilty about everything, goes to the hospital twice in Twilight, including for several days at the end of the book, but never worries about how much it will all cost her family.
She suffered life-threatening bleeding and broken bones (leg, ribs, and skull), and was admitted for several nights. I’ve never lived in the USA but the internet tells me this is extremely expensive. She isn’t remotely worried about it.
Bella doesn’t have a job, but she has money.
She’s 17 and unemployed, so I’m not sure where it comes from. An allowance? But an allowance is only possible if parents have wealth to spare.
In all her reminiscing about Arizona, Bella doesn’t so much as recall a babysitting gig. So where do her funds come from? The only time she uses Charlie's money is to pay for groceries.
“I had more money than I was used to having, since, thanks to Charlie, I hadn’t had to pay for a car. Not that the truck didn’t cost me quite a bit in the gas department.” (p. 84)
She doesn’t get a job until New Moon, but she planned on using her own money to buy a car and fuel it without even considering applying for a job in Twilight (and we know every thought that goes through her head). Further, unlike any truly poor kid, she doesn't seem to consider walking or cycling options despite living in a small town (I assume a community the size of Forks would not have a robust public transportation system).
She eats at restaurants, considers clothing and book shopping, etc., without any care about paying for anything. She is supposed to be a conscientious girl who made sure her mother’s bills were paid, so if money were an issue, we should expect her to think about it.
TL;DR
Bella wasn’t poor. Renée wasn’t poor. Charlie wasn’t poor.
The author was certainly never poor.

You know how you have an idea and your brain just gets stuck on it until you share it or otherwise do something about it? Or are you normal?
Yes, this is about my OCs. In fact, it's probably everything you (n)ever wanted to know about Nikolai Pavlenko.
It's gonna be long. Apologies.
Seriously, you get all the 🍪 and ⭐️ if you make it through this Chaotic Info Post™
Anyway, I was just thinking about how some of my best and/or favourite OCs were only meant to be secondary characters, but somehow became so interesting to me (either on their own or in relation to other characters) that I absolutely had to develop them. Nikolai was one of those, and now, so are his potential love interests, Ginger and Mishka.
I already had skeletal backstories for both Ginger and Mishka (Ginger's was a bit more in-depth, to be fair, but still...) Now, suddenly they're both telling me all kinds of things about themselves to the point where I can't even decide which one of them Nikolai is meant to be with. I mean, let's face it; he's definitely not meant to be with Anya again, and he's too loving and sweet to be alone.
Nikolai can credit all his former coaches and his figure skating friends, and his students to some degree, for shaping who he is as a person. He loves his parents and has a good relationship with them, but his father in particular is not the sort of person to show much emotion or demonstrate affection and his mother is a bold, no-nonsense woman who can come off as brusque and rude to people who don't know her. Nikolai is not like that. He's gentle and patient and he likes to show others how he feels and loves to give and receive affection. It was his coaches, Stanislav and Beth-Anne, who brought out the best in him, and in reality they often parented him just as much or more than his parents did. As an adult, and since becoming a coach himself, he's also learned a lot about how to have good relationships with people and also a lot about himself.
As a teenager, Nikolai's closest friends were all figure skaters, like him. He started skating at the age of five, when his family lived in another town. At his old skating club, he didn't manage to make a lot of friends and would have been desperately lonely if it weren't for his sister Natascha.
He was sixteen when his family moved, and he flourished at his new rink with his new coach, Stan, who taught him just as much about life and love and the challenges of growing up as he did about figure skating. It was there that he met the people who would become his core group of friends; Anya, Ginger, Hunter, Juliet and Christian.
Vivienne "Ginger" Holmes moved to town during the same summer Nikolai did, so they already had that in common when they met. She was only 14 and had come all the way to Canada from the UK specifically to train with Stan. She was living with a host family, but was essentially on her own, according to her. She and Nikolai bonded instantly, not just over being the new kids at school and the rink, but also over their shared love of dance, bike racing, comic books and spicy food. Ginger never acted stereotypically "girly" and Nikolai appreciated that. It was easy to think of her as a buddy and a confidante, without the complication of adolescent infatuation.
Anya, on the other hand, was a totally different story. She was also 14 when Nikolai met her. Like him, she was the child of an immigrant family, but unlike him, she was well-integrated, attractive and popular. Nikolai tried to avoid her at first, thinking that she was probably mean and shallow like most of the other pretty, popular girls he'd met at his old school. It was actually Anya who approached him. She was learning photography from her grandfather, and wanted to take pictures of Nikolai on the ice. He refused at first, but after Anya kept pestering him, he finally agreed one day. After practice that day, he agreed to go with Anya to get food, and they naturally started talking. Slowly but surely, they got to know each other, and he learned to trust her. As they both approached adulthood, he realized that somewhere along the way, he'd fallen in love with her.
Nikolai and Anya married when he was 24 and she was 22.They were both actively competing and were at the peak of their skating careers. The year they got married, Nikolai won his first World Championship gold medal, and Anya came away with bronze, her second World Championship medal in three years.
Unfortunately, their marriage was not meant to last. Neither of them were ready for the responsibility of a marriage. They were juggling their training and competition schedules, their finances, managing their shared home, and dealing with growing pressure from both their families to start a family of their own. Even though they didn't realize it at the time, neither of them had been ready for a marriage. They hadn't been mature or stable enough, and Anya in particular hadn't been ready to settle down.
The final blow to their marriage that they hadn't been able to overcome was the injury that abruptly ended Nikolai's competitive skating career. He was 27, and competing in the Four Continents Cup, when he injured his knee in a spectacularly bad fall. Even before the doctors and physical therapists assessed his injury, he somehow knew that his career was over, and that he'd never be in another competition.
The eventual prognosis was that he would recover enough to be able to walk and run normally, and even to be able to skate again one day if he did everything the medical professionals told him to. But, they said, he would never be able to compete again. His damaged knee would not tolerate the amount and intensity of training required for it.
Nikolai wasn't ready to accept that reality. He couldn't decide if he was more angry or sad about it, and he became increasingly depressed. Anya couldn't handle the burden of taking care of him while he recovered, with his irritability and mood swings and seemingly random bouts of crying or angry outbursts making things even worse. She decided to leave, and packed her things to go move in with her grandfather.
As if Nikolai wasn't already broken enough, Anya's departure absolutely shattered him. He felt like he was losing everything. He actually contemplated taking his own life, and he might very well have done if not for his coach at the time, Beth-Anne.
Beth-Anne received a phone call in the middle of the night, and on the other end of the line was Nikolai, sobbing inconsolably and telling her that he was scared. Beth-Anne didn't ask questions. She told him to go and unlock the door and not to do anything else, and that she'd be there in ten minutes. She threw on some clothes, grabbed her car keys and sped all the way there. When she got there, she found Nikolai sitting on the floor in the entryway, still crying and looking absolutely exhausted. He hadn't even made it back to the sofa or his bed or wherever he'd been when he phoned her. He literally had unlocked the front door and done nothing else until she arrived.
Beth-Anne gathered him up and took him to the ER. She knew he needed help, at least to settle him down. Anything else he needed after that, she could handle herself. She lost patience with the doctors who were going on about anti-depressants and therapy, once they'd heard the full story, and she vetoed the idea of them admitting him for a psychological evaluation. She verbally exploded on the doctor with, "He doesn't need his head examined and he doesn't need fucking drugs! He needs a sense of purpose and someone who actually gives a shit!" That got the tiniest smile out of Nikolai, and Beth-Anne was silently and secretly pleased.
In the end, she and Nikolai did acquiesce to a painkiller for his leg and some medication to help him sleep, and agreed that he should stay in the hospital overnight for observation. Beth-Anne bullied the doctor into letting her stay with Nikolai all night, and she didn't leave his side for more than a few minutes. In the morning, she called Nikolai's parents and informed them that he'd be staying with her for a while, and then with the consent of the doctor, she took a still-drowsy Nikolai home to her place and tucked him into bed in the guest room.
For the first couple of days, Beth-Anne cancelled all her students' practices and stayed home with Nikolai. She made him stay in bed or on the sofa, and practically waited on him. On the third day, however, she bundled him up and took him to the rink with her, telling him that he needed to watch her and observe her students, because she'd be asking him for commentary and critique later. That was his first glimpse into the skating world from the other side of the gate.
As the weeks progressed, Nikolai began to feel better. Every day, he went to the rink with Beth-Anne to be a second set of eyes for her, spotting different things each of the skaters did exceptionally well and things they still needed work on. At home, Beth-Anne helped him work on his physical therapy exercises, taught him how to cook, introduced him to yoga, and happily expounded upon the joys and pains of being a figure skating coach. She answered all his questions about coaching, and encouraged him to join her as an assistant when he was ready.
Eventually he did join her as a coaching assistant. After a few months, he was able to skate again for short periods of time, and then it wasn't long before he'd taken over one of Beth-Anne's beginner groups, teaching his five little skaters mostly on his own, with minimal guidance from Beth-Anne. He was happy to realize she'd been right. The thing he'd needed most was someone who cared about him and something to bring a sense of purpose to his life.
Meanwhile, Anya was deeply regretting her decision to leave Nikolai. She still loved him and wanted to come back, but he wasn't ready for that. He was still hurt, and he didn't think he could put himself through another ride on the emotional roller coaster that had been life with Anya. He filed for divorce, and she didn't contest it.
They were able to repair their friendship, but Nikolai wasn't interested in renewing their romantic relationship at that point. Eventually, he would be, but he needed time. He had to admit that he still loved Anya too, but he realized things would never be good between them until they both changed.
At some point, they settled into a "friends with benefits" arrangement, where they agreed that they weren't going to commit to each other and that they'd be free to see other people.
During that period of time, Nikolai went out with his good friend Ginger several times, but they never once slept together and never liked to say their outings were dates. Nikolai dated other people as well, but nothing ever developed with anyone.
It was on the night that he, Beth-Anne, Ginger, Juliet and Hunter were out at a club, celebrating his thirtieth birthday that he met the person whom he'd have his next serious relationship with, Mikhail Vasiliev (a.k.a. Mishka). Nikolai and Hunter were up at the bar, getting drinks for themselves and the ladies when they noticed a man around their age apparently struggling to explain something to one fo the bartenders. The man was enormous, with bulging muscles clearly visible through his snug-fitting shirt, and Nikolai guessed that if they were standing side-by-side, the top of his head would only come up to the man's shoulder. Despite that, however, the man had an oddly childlike quality about him. His sweet face was crumpled with frustration and he looked like he might cry at any moment if he couldn't make himself understood.
Nikolai's second observation was that he recognized the language the man was speaking in between snatches of halting, broken English.
"He's speaking Russian," Nikolai told Hunter. "I'm going to help him."
As it turned out, Mishka was lost and had come into the club for directions. After not having succeeded in getting help at a convenience store down the street, he'd wandered into the only other establishment that was open at that hour. He explained to Nikolai that he was a professional hockey player, and that he'd been part of a mid-season trade from his old team to the one in Brindleton Bay. He'd only arrived a few days ago, and was staying at a hotel until he found a suitable place to live. This particular evening, he'd had dinner by himself at a restaurant, and then on a whim, decided to take a late evening stroll around town. But then, he'd gotten confused and couldn't find his way back to the hotel.
Nikolai and Hunter invited him to come and join Nikolai's little birthday party, and then Nikolai would take him back to the hotel afterwards. Mishka agreed, mostly because he was a little desperate, but he would later say it was the best choice he'd made in a while.
Nikolai and Mishka spent a lot of time just getting to know each other after that, and soon realized this was not going to be just a friendship. Everyone agreed that Mishka was good for Nikolai, and his family and most of his friends liked him. As for Mishka, he was very happy to find himself surrounded by so many people who cared about him, and to be falling in love with somebody who treated him gently and took care of him the way Nikolai did.
For all his strong, tough appearance, Mishka is a meek and quiet person. The thing he appreciated most about Nikolai is that he recognized Mishka's vulnerability and never judged him for it. He was always there to support him and look after him. For Nikolai, Mishka inspired the same kind of nurturing and protectiveness as his young protégé Eden Seong and all his other students, and the relationship offered him that all-important sense of purpose.
His relationship with Mishka was quiet and steady, with none of the chaos and emotional turbulence that his relationship with Anya had. There were fewer risky adventures, far less wild sex, very little personal drama, and no all-out screaming arguments. They often disagreed, but they rarely fought, and they would always try to make up before going to sleep if they did fight.
To Nikolai, their love was all the sweeter, knowing that they were able to successfully navigate through the aftermath of an argument and still want to curl up together in bed when all was said and done. That always made him feel safe, when they felt satisfied enough with the outcome to finally let themselves go to bed, and he was wrapped in Mishka’s huge, gentle arms. Sometimes Mishka would sing to him; the most unexpectedly angelic voice coming from this massive man who looked like he’d be more at home yelling commands to workers at the dockyard than chanting in a choir.
(Mishka had been in an all-boys choir as a child and young teen)
Mishka is cuddly and affectionate, just like Nikolai, and they both fulfilled each other’s need for physical touch. They also had no qualms about being affectionate in public, and it wasn’t at all a rare sight to see them holding hands while out for a walk or to catch Mishka hugging Nikolai from behind and shyly kissing his cheek while they waited in line for coffee.
Mishka shared Nikolai’s love of cycling, and the two of them liked to go on bike rides together. Their favourite thing to do together was to bike somewhere and go exploring. In the summertime, they’d take several small trips where they’d bike for a while, then hike into to the woods and find a nice spot to put up their tent, and camp in the forest for a night or two. Sometimes they’d find a place to fish, sometimes they’d sit in the sun and read, and sometimes they’d wander around and look at the flowers, mushrooms and trees and simply enjoy the quiet. Mishka often got stressed about getting lost, but Nikolai is good with a compass and so they never did.
Other things they enjoyed together were swimming, dancing, playing video games and of course skating. Sometimes the skating was more about Nikolai showing off while Mishka admired him, but mostly they’d skate laps together until Nikolai’s knee dictated a halt. Then, they’d go home, and Mishka would ice and massage his leg until he felt better.
One of the big challenges in their relationship was Mishka’s travelling. The team was constantly on the go throughout the regular season, and even longer if they made the playoffs. Nikolai didn’t like how often Mishka was away from him, and even though there was a set schedule for the team’s away games and home games, the whole thing still felt unstable and uncertain to him. Psychologically, it was difficult for him, and although he tried not to show how upset and stressed he was every time Mishka had to leave, Mishka always knew. He hated that Nikolai was upset, but there wasn’t much he could do in that situation, which naturally upset him too.
Perhaps the biggest hurdle for them was Anya. Nikolai and Anya’s on-again, off-again friends with benefits situation was in a definite “off again” phase when Nikolai and Mishka decided they were in an official relationship, but that didn’t stop Anya from coming around and trying to make herself at home. She’d show up ostensibly to cook for them, help them with their laundry or bring them something she’d knitted. The whole thing made Mishka feel extremely uncomfortable, and he said so on multiple occasions.
Regardless of the fact that Nikolai told Anya several times he wasn’t interested at all, Anya still tried to flirt with him (and with Mishka, much to Mishka’s distress). Mishka was never worried about Nikolai being unfaithful, but he neither liked nor trusted Anya.
One of the worst things for Nikolai during all this was that he didn’t even have his buddy Ginger around to talk to about it. Not long after Nikolai and Mishka had gotten together, Ginger had returned to the UK to begin her own journey as a figure skating coach and, as it happened, a wife. She and Nikolai did their best to keep in touch, but with their schedules, time zones, and Ginger’s new husband Liam not liking her to talk to other men, it was a challenge.
Inevitably, Nikolai and Mishka reached the conclusion that as much as they loved and cared for each other, this was not the right time or the right circumstances for them to stay together. They mutually decided to part ways and remain friends, and they promised that if their situations ever changed, they'd look each other up and hopefully try again. They did their best to keep in touch after that, but just like his contact with Ginger, Nikolai's contact with Mishka was semi-regular, but they still managed not to lose track of each other. He never forgot what they'd promised and neither did Mishka.
Fast-forward a few years, and Nikolai receives a message from Ginger, telling him that she and Liam are divorcing, and she's moving to Japan to continue to train her star student, Sebastian Fujikawa, a Japanese citizen who'd previously been training in the UK while he attended school there. The teenager was ready to go home to Japan, though, and he'd practically begged Ginger to come with him. She told Nikolai she was ready for a change, and that she'd gladly agreed.
Meanwhile, Nikolai was busy with Eden, his own young champion in the making, as well as his other students. Eden and Sebastian were the same age, Nikolai discovered, and soon they'd be competing in the senior division, where they — and their coaches — would undoubtedly meet at international competitions. It was easier for Nikolai and Ginger to keep in touch, now that she didn’t have Liam breathing down her neck, and their contact became less sporadic. Nikolai always looked forward to the chances when they'd encounter each other in person at a competition or training camp. Seeing Ginger again always made him happy.
Fast-forward another handful of years, and Nikolai finds himself in the unlikely scenario of being begged to come to Japan by his own student. Eden had decided to follow his brother Charlie to Japan, where Charlie was going to pursue his career as a professional aesthetitian, hoping to become the proverbial beautician of the stars in the J-pop music industry.
Initially, Eden asked Nikolai to come with him, and Nikolai said no. For one thing, he was terrified to uproot himself from his family, students and familiar surroundings. He was never good with instability, and he didn't think he could cope with that drastic a change in his life. His other reason was that he thought Eden might need to assert his own independence a bit. He didn't want Eden to leave, but knew that it'd be wrong to hold him back.
Eden found a new coach to train with, but the whole thing went terribly wrong after only a few months. Coincidentally, he was skating out of the same rink in a small town in Japan where Ginger was coaching her student, Sebastian. Nikolai heard more of the story from Ginger than he did from Eden at first, as Eden didn't want to upset him with all the horrible details, nor did he want Nikolai to think he was trying to guilt him into coming to Japan.
Finally, Eden did confess the whole truth, and Nikolai was heartbroken to realize that he'd made a huge mistake in not going to Japan with Eden in the first place. He'd all but made up his mind to go, and it really took very little extra persuasion on the part of Ginger and Charlie to fully convince him.
He was overjoyed to be reunited with Eden. Three months had felt like forever to him. He's struggling to adapt to life in Japan, and he'd be lying if he said he wasn't scared, but having Eden, Charlie and Ginger close by helps him. Anya, a professional sports and entertainment photographer, has been there to visit him, while she was travelling in Asia for work. As much as he wants to deny it, he was glad to see her too and try as he might, he can't deny that he's looking forward to her coming back again.
But, other than training with Eden again, the real highlight has been his reunion with Ginger. It's brought him much more joy than he'd expected, and he's really not certain how to explain his feelings about it. He and Ginger spend as much time together as they can, and it didn't take much for them to slip back into their old friendship. They still don't want to say they're dating, and neither one of them really sees their relationship as a romance, but they're nevertheless very happy together. Nikolai can honestly say he loves Ginger, and he sees nothing wrong with that.
It's all good until he receives a long email from Mishka. Now 35 years old, Mishka has decided that too many injuries and stamina that's fading with age have finally made him uncompetitive as a pro hockey player, and it's time to retire. Nikolai could read the excitement in Mishka's written message, and he easily could picture Mishka's sweet face glowing with a smile at the sentence, "I never forgot you. I'm coming to Japan to find you, my love."
Nikolai is excited too, until he thinks about Ginger. And Anya.
He's still figuring out his feelings for Ginger, who is already right there in town, and Anya will be back soon on another business trip. How's he supposed to handle Mishka too, in the midst of that?
He has a problem, and not the sort of problem most people have. Some people have trouble finding one love interest. Nikolai's problem is that he may have far too many...
