Decibel magazine posted their top 40 albums of the year already and Iâm making my way through the ones I havenât listened to yet, and honestly? Im enjoying all the ones Iâve checked out so far. Iâve been looking for more doom metal đ I really liked Ripped to Shreds, Vicious Blade, Hulder, and Mother of Graves.
the number 1 album by crypt sermon was fantastic and I completely see why someone might pick it as their fav, but was it better than the number 2 spot, blood incantationâs absolute elsewhere? No. You will never be absolute elsewhere. Gatecreeper got 7, which Iâm satisfied with, and full of hell âcoagulated blissâ at 21 is⌠I will tolerate it being that low, itâs a hard sell. But Chat Pileâs âcool worldâ at 27th spot is criminal! That should have been top 10, or top 5 preferably! They should be hung and quartered for that!
(Also new full of hell / Andrew Nolan collab dropped today and I canât believe full of hell have managed to release TWO albums on my end of year fav list over the course of 7 months⌠the mammoth grinder and secret world EPs were so yummy too I have to listen to mammoth grinderâs past albums in full I donât think Iâve ever listened to one from start to finish which is actually so evil of me)
#I need someone who matches my freak (is just as opinionated about extreme metal as me)#also yayyy tzompantli and terminal nation made the list#I was expecting a lot of the bands like black dahlia murder / darkthrone / nails / undeath etc#so itâs always exciting to see my underrated kings get a shout out they deserve#ash.mp3

Also, I feel like its good to note generally speaking what my music in the past has actually looked like, so lets start with metal
Then the other side is electronic which is not generally as rounded album wise, and I only recently shifted into the IDM direction. I put Noisecontrollers instead of Headhunterz as while I grew up on Headhunterz more recent it'd have been Noisecontrollers. Also the Aphex Twin here is not the one I think is the best but the one that best represents me here I think. Last album is some oldschool dubstep style album, City Limits Volume 1 by Silkie which is one of the few good oldschool dubstep albums I can think of.
And then I tried to get into a big of flashy energetic 'indie' rock. I was already into Muse and I sort of branched from there.
Then there's been some other miscellaneous albums but I hadn't really been able to branch out from there, most notably in the pop and hip hop direction. I tried to get into jazz but its hard.
So, I hope that gives some perspective on why I might feel 'proud' getting into other things because I'm pretty firmly entrenched in metal and electronic only as for some reason happiness is an insecurity and if it is it must have a desperation energy (like Muse).
EDIT: I added tags of some bands and styles in case I come across cool people into those.

Love love love Trapper Keeper! (i've only read it like 3 times lol)
Which heavy metal band do you envision being on KĂśnig's shirt in Ch 13? I like to HC that he's a Rammstein fan đ¤
Thank you so much for the wonderful writing!
Thank you đđ ok I have to be honest, I left it nondescript because I couldnât decide if he was into a bit more old school metal like Death, Obituary, Pantera, Morbid Angel etc or like slightly newer (which fml is still like 25-30 yrs old now wtf đ) like Mastodon, Black Dahlia Murder, Lamb of God, Children of Bodom, that type of thing
Also I donât know who was touring when he would have gotten his shirt lmao ANYWAY I do think heâd be into Rammstein too though!

My thoughs on the recent Skullgirls censorship
Okay. So. Iâm not the kind of guy thatâs gonna call anyone a pedophile or a neo nazi or a racist for raising a fuss at the devs cutting out what they did.
I am, however, the kind of guy thatâs gonna call everyone thatâs throwing a conniption fit over a few cosmetic changes that effect NOTHING in the grand scheme of the game a pathetic, whiny, entitled crybaby BITCH for being so outraged about absolute NON-ISSUES.
What are you losing from not being able to stare at Filiaâs ass in that one cutscene anymore? Whatâs being lost because they removed some armbands from the Egrets? This doesnât make SENSE. All they changed was minor cosmetic stuff!
Filiaâs panty shots? Who cares?! Theyâre not cutting out any of the stuff that makes people like the game, sheâs still baring her midriff and wearing a belt in place of a skirt, that hasnât changed! The sexualized stuff is still there! So Cerebella was censored in a FEW story shots where sheâs in a non-consentinal situation where sheâs literally about to be murdered or eaten, sheâs still flashing her underwear in her actual gameplay! Parasoul, Ms. Fortune, Valentine, Eliza and Black Dahlia are all RIGHT THERE! Your precious sexual content hasnât gone ANYWHERE, so this entire complain is just WORTHLESS and PATHETIC. You canât handle the game being two percent less horny so you need to get all up in arms and review bomb the game in an active effort to hurt it because of some minor changes?!
The Egrets armbands make perfect sense! Maybe when the game was initially pitched they were meant to be something more Nazi-esque, but that simply isnât the case anymore! EVERY time we see the Egrets in the modern age, they are portrayed as GOOD GUYS. Parasoul is a righteous ruler that genuinely wants to do whatâs best for her people, and the men she leads are the only people in power that are FIGHTING FOR THE PEOPLE. They donât want to have their biggest force of GOOD associated with LITERAL NAZI SYMBOLISM. Why is that such a hard thing for people to grasp?! I keep saying people claim that the Egrets are supposed to be the bad guys. No the fuck theyâre not, what are you even watching to think that?!
Big Bandâs story mode, that I can kinda get, it was very important to his overall character, that is the one thing I wonât fault anyone for being upset over. At the same time though, I get why they did it. Itâs a very topical issue that they donât personally feel well equipped to handle, and itâs possibly a bit too real for their fun action fighting game where a cartoon character fights a ninja nurse. I donât agree with this choice, but I can understand it.
The concept art... I can also kiiiiind of get, I feel like if theyâre gonna delete guest art they can at least replace it with new ones so that the fans are still getting SOMETHING out of it, but I can see what prompted the change. Like, them wanting to censor the fanservice on Filia and JUST Filia is not a big deal! If you donât want to play the game with both hands, just pick Parasoul or Valentine ffs. And how often do you even go into the art gallery to look at images you can just as easily get online? This is another non-issue that doesnâ have anything to do with the game itself.
Finally, the Soviet Announcer voice pack. ...That voice pack was literally voiced by their fucking ABUSER. I can understand them wanting the voice of someone that hurt them OUT of the game theyâre working on. Even if they got a different guy to voice it, itâs still a bit that was MADE by their abuser, Mike Z used it in his tutorials for Tager and Potemkin and it became a running gag. That voice pack is a literal reminder of someone who hurt them. So stop crying about âMuh soviet russia pack doh!â and accept the fact that they donât want to hear his voice because it brings back painful memories for them. Itâs not that hard. And as for Benâs alternate voice pack? Itâs literally based around sexual misconduct. So yeah.
Iâm just pissed off that my favorite franchise of all time is suffering because some entitled, whiny little puke stains canât handle minute changes that effect next to NOTHING about the game itself. Like a few cosmetic differences is the absolute end of the world. If youâre like that and youâre reading this? Stop crying like a little bitch, put on your big boy pants and accept the fact that these changes are LAUGHABLY MINOR. The designs are still the same. The story is still the same. The gameplay is still the same. The characters are still the same. The art style is still the same. EVERYTHING THAT MATTERS IS THE SAME. WHO. CARES?!

Can you please write a headcanon list for a Wavier/Wenvier wedding? Iâm writing a fic but Iâm running out of ideas
Wedding Headcanons:
Pairing: Wednesday Addams x Xavier Thorpe
The wedding took place on a chilly October, in a Gothic cathedral.
Gomez challenged Xavier to a (friendly) fencing duel when he asked for permission to marry Wednesday. Xavier was relieved that he won- he wasn't sure what would happen if he didn't.
Uncle Fester went around shaking everyoneâs hands.
Cousin Itt officiated the wedding in his unintelligible language, confusing half of the guests.
Flowers at the reception: black roses, dark red dahlias, and black calla lilies.
Lurch played the organ for the wedding march, followed by "The Addams Family" theme song.
Their wedding vows came from the movie 'Corpse Bride': "With this hand, I will lift your sorrows. Your cup will never empty, for I will be your wine. With this candle, I will light your way in darkness. With this ring, I ask you to be mine."
Xavier had designed their matching wedding bands himself.
They exchanged a blood oath, wearing vials of each other's blood on pendants around their necks.
As a surprise for Wednesday, Xavier arranged for a murder of crows to fly overhead during the ceremony.
The bride and groom both wore black. They looked like they walked out of a gloomy fairytale fantasy. (Or, in Ajax's words, "A couple from a black and white Instagram filter")
Ajax was -of course- best man, and Enid was Wednesday's maid of honour.
Thing was the ring bearer, complete with a tiny bow-tie.
Xavier's six-year-old cousin Lily scattered black rose petals down the aisle as the flower girl.
The couple's first dance was to the song "Bad Romance" by Lady Gaga. Wednesday had secretly been practicing a choreographed routine for weeks, and Xavier was completely surprised when she took his hand and led him onto the dance floor.
Their last song was "To The End" by My Chemical Romance- If you marry me, would you bury me? Would you carry me to the end?
The Addams family performed a choreographed dance to "Thriller", led by Uncle Fester.
The wedding cake was a three-tier cake with black and white icing, each tier consisting of their favorite flavors: dark chocolate, red velvet, and coffee.
Yoko served as the bartender, mixing her famous mojitos.
Wednesday wanted to stick a wasp's nest in the bouquet of flowers before she threw it. Xavier talked her out of it.
In the end, they compromised by placing a live tarantula, much to Bianca's horror and dismay.
Gomez and Morticia presented the newlyweds with a mansion along with an antique guillotine, which was a treasured family heirloom.
Vincent Thorpe actually made it to the wedding. His gift was a private island on the Aegean Sea.
The couple left the reception in a vintage hearse decorated with black and red ribbons, driven by Lurch.
Pugsley provided fireworks for the couple's grand exit.
Their first honeymoon destination was Paris, France: The Louvre Museum, Paris Catacombs, and the Père Lachaise cemetery.
Hope this helps, and good luck with your story!

An INCOMPLETE list of some of the bands Hunter is canonically implied to listen to.
This includes bands from the spoken list, written list, his posters & more.

Again, this is not even remotely everything but I wanted to list some of the ones Iâve jotted down over time.
Screen-grab at the top of this post is yet another excellent example of Hunter giving Kevin âlove me eyes.â
Also look at his stupid little bejeweled skull.
Look at it. This silly fucker.
Heâs just like me fr

The Black Dahlia Murder - Servitude
Starting off a review of the new Black Dahlia Murder album is tough, because thereâs some context thatâs needed for this record to understand why this album is a big deal. Maybe not for the overall music world, but for death metal and for this band specifically, this is an album that marks a new era for them, as well as a triumph, so to speak. Former vocalist Trevor Strnad passed away two years ago from taking his own life, and that shook up the metal community quite a bit. People are still torn up about it today, but people were wondering if and how the band would go on. Stepping up to the plate was Brian Eschbach, their longtime rhythm guitarist and only founding member remaining, but people were skeptical how they would sound with him on vocals.
The Black Dahlia Murder is one of the most beloved bands in all of metal, not merely just death metal, so they would have to tread lightly if they replaced their vocalist. I waited until the entirety of Servitude came out to check out his debut with the band on vocals, but this record is quite good, honestly, and I would even say itâs a great addition to their body of work. Does this album sound like everything else theyâve done? Sure, but Eschbach does a great job here, evoking Trevor on many occasions but also doing something new with his performance. He still has that venom and bite, but heâs not trying to sound just like him.
If anything, this album needed to be a reintroduction to the band after the last couple of years, and it works perfectly for what it is. Servitude is a short and sweet album, only 33 minutes, and it breezes by quite nicely. This record is a lot of fun, and while itâs a straightforward melodic death metal album, it also packs a punch. Because Eschbach was moving to vocals, the band also got new-ish rhythm guitarist Ryan Knight (who was in the band previously from 2009 to 2016), and the pairing of him with longtime guitarist Brandon Ellis is a match made in Heaven. Both of them sound great together, and the riffs and solos just ooze out of them, but it sounds wonderful.
I donât have a ton to say about this record, but itâs a solid addition to their body of work. It wonât win you over if youâre not a fan, and if you are a fan, youâll either appreciate it for what it is, or youâll think it sucks because itâs not Trevor, which is a pretty close minded way of thinking. Yeah, Trevor was one of the best vocalists in extreme music, but the band can definitely go on if they choose to do so. Iâve been surprisingly coming back to this album quite a lot, especially when the last couple of weeks have had a handful of releases come out, but the fact that this one has gotten my attention is a good sign, all things considered. Give it a spin if you want a good and consistent melodic death metal album, even if it doesnât necessarily do anything you havenât heard before.

As a follow up to my favorite books of the first quarter of the year, here are some of my favorites from April, May, June! In no particular order, just in the order I read them.
The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi by Shannon Chakraborty is a fun, pirate fantasy adventure featuring one of my recently realized favorite tropes: getting the band back together. A retired female pirate just wants to live a quiet life raising her young daughter, when she is recruited to rescue the child of a former crewmate. She must reunite with her old crew and save the day. Killer cover, fun story.
Chlorine by Jade Song is a coming of age body horror novel about a teenaged girl who will do anything to become a mermaid. Slow burn- you know what will happen from the beginning, but it's a deep dive into the mind of this queer young swimmer to watch her get there.
Malice by Keigo Higashino is a Japanese novel translated by Alexander O. Smith about a detective determined to uncover the motive behind the murder of a famous novelist. Loved this why-done-it.
We See Each Other: A Black, Trans Journey Through TV and Film by Tre'vell Anderson is a nonfiction exploration of Black trans representation in pop culture and history, as well as moments from the author's own life. Looks at everything To Wong Foo to Pose to Survivor.
Don't Fear the Reaper by Stephen Graham Jones is the second book in the Indian Lake Trilogy. SGJ is my favorite horror author but his work and ESPECIALLY these books are not for everyone. People either love or hate this series and what can I say? I get it. Graphic here.
VenCo by Cherie Dimaline is about a young Indigenous woman who has to go on an adventure with her unusual and elderly grandmother after she discovers that she's one of seven witches to usher in a new era of power.
Madame Restell by Jennifer Wright is a nonfiction book about a famous abortionist in pre-Gilded Age New York. I found it fascinating, if not incredibly depressing, with how much we recycle the same arguments over and over again. Great read. Trigger warnings for this one, from childbirth to abortion to racism to misogyny.
Clytemnestra by Costanza Casati is a Greek mythology retelling on the titular murderer. As a Clytemnestra apologist, I really liked this. I kind of think so many of Greek retellings these days are all very similar, in writing style & theme so I feel like if you've read one of these recent retellings you've read them all, but I liked it!
Hamra & the Jungle of Memories by Hanna Alkaf is a Little Red Riding Hood retelling set in modern Malaysia, where a girl in a red hijab must help a tiger return to his human form. Really a beautiful story about humanity, grief, and what it means to make mistakes. Also just a fun adventure. Loved it. Graphic here.
You're Not Supposed to Die Tonight by Kalynn Bayron is another final girl horror novel. Look, I'm gonna read all of them and I'm gonna love all of them! You give me a final girl and I'm gonna eat it up. You give me a queer Black final girl trying to survive the night at her camp recreating a famous (fictional) horror movie while trying to protect her girlfriend? Yum, yum, yum.
Honorable mentions: Ayoade on Top is Richard Ayoade's definitive tome on the Gwenyth Paltrow film View From the Top. Get the audiobook for this one for sure! The Three Dahlias is a fun cozy mystery, and Saint Juniper's Folly is a fun queer modern fantasy adventure.

Dortmund Deathfest@JunkYard, 02.+03.08.2024
