I feel like mainstream audiences need to learn that animation isn't a genre, it's a medium. Another one is that animation is only for kids, which is just straight up false. Pretty much any story, for kids or not, can be told with animation. The mindset combo that animation is a genre for kids, is just so annoying, especially when you can argue without even getting deep in what kind of animated shows there are, that it isn't the case. Most people probably know things like family guy and bojack horseman. I don't think anyone can argue that those are for kids. As for animation being a genre, the belief is just plain stupid. There is an extremely wide range of stories told with animation, both in western and eastern animation, and dropping them all under a single umberella just undermines everything about those stories, especially when there are people who dismiss all animation as being bad, and never look outside of that "western animated kids shows" bubble.

I've had people decide to hate me over the silliest, most petty misunderstandings and while I'm realising it's because their perception of themselves was so harmful they just inherently assumed the worst of me/that I intended to hurt them, it still really hurts me and I just feel like a kicked dog who got yelled at for bringing a squirrel into the house that I wanted to be a gift but it was instead seen as an insult and disrespect. I'm saying all this to again implore people to take a second before assuming someone meant to insult you, especially someone you're friends with, and communicate. Because all you do is hurt yourself more, and hurt them by assuming they have no love for you. I still have love for these people and what hurts most is that they won't ever know. They'll always just think I wanted to hurt them.

Dick (Nightwing) and Jason (Robin) stare at Bruce. One sports pleading eyes, the other a shit eating grin. There’s a child between them with black hair and blue eyes.
Bruce, he doesn’t know what’s happening but he doesn’t like it: No.
Dick, grinning: He’s our younger brother now.
Jason, nodding seriously: You’re not gonna take him from us.
Tim, got kidnapped while taking photos of patrol, just happy to be there: Where’s the Batcave?
Bruce: what.
Dick, grinning wider: He’s ours now.

Hi I'm one of the Americans that transferred to Rednote as word of Tiktok shutdown got around. I just wanted to drop by and show everyone a comparison that is WILD to me.
Tumblr media
These are all in Yuan, the local currency. A buck, two bucks, six bucks... that seems really nice.
And then you pop it in U.S dollars.
Tumblr media
14 cents. 14 cents for food.
So seeing the difference there, I got curious and made a post asking the netizens how much they typically pay for things, and I asked for how much my meds would cost. These answers are eye opening.
Tumblr media
Eleven Yuan.
Tumblr media
A dollar and two quarters.
Without insurance, my meds are 400 bucks in U.S currency.
There's no excuses for this. No excuse for why anyone should have to live like this.

The Barbie movie reminded me about how when I was little my parents were upset that I kept making my Barbie dolls kiss, so they bought me a Ken doll. The next day they found me having a funeral for poor Ken in the garden, he had died of tuberculosis. All the Barbies were in attendance and I buried him under our rose bush. The Barbies were too poor to afford a headstone (it was 1875) so I didn’t mark where the grave was and I never could find him again. He’s probably still there.

It's like we all collectively forgot as a society that friendship and just connection in general takes effort. Even if you meet someone you immediately click with, it takes hanging out about 20 times (!) to become friends. And guess what, some of those 20 meetings might be awkward or unimpressive.
We all want to reap the benefits (having a friend circle, having a partner, getting married) without doing the work (going to events, interacting with people, learning to handle conflict maturely, dating). Myself included. If I could, I'd never leave the house or go on another mediocre date again... except, that's part of the process.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, the cure to the loneliness epidemic is touching some grass and building tolerance for tedious in-person interactions.

I feel like the internet has tried to re-write history a little bit, so I feel like it's worth pointing out that:
In 2001, the year Shrek had been released, Smash Mouth had 3 songs hit the top 10 of Billboards Hot 100 Airplay charts. All Star specifically reached #1 for six weeks in it's release year of 1999, and peaked at #4 on Billboards Singles chart in August of the same year. Astro Lounge, the album that All Star comes from, peaked at #6 in the US's Billboard top 200 of its release week, and #34 on Billboards end of year list. Before being in Shrek, the song had already been featured in 2 other movies; in 1999 it was included in the movie Mystery Men (which clips of the movie and the characters would appear in the music video) and in Digimon: The Movie in 2000.

learning that self deprecation isnt cool and just makes the people around you uncomfortable unironically improved my mental health a lot. like if you just stop saying negative shit about yourself you will genuinely like yourself more and other people wont be repulsed by your attitude and you will have more friends. it's true.
