learning that self deprecation isnt cool and just makes the people around you uncomfortable unironically improved my mental health a lot. like if you just stop saying negative shit about yourself you will genuinely like yourself more and other people wont be repulsed by your attitude and you will have more friends. it's true.
#people will fr go ''god im such an ugly loser LOL i suck at everything i do and i should just kmsâ#and then go âwhy does no one want to be around meâ#maybe because your attitude sucks. maybe because i said 'those mean things you say about yourself arent true'#and you spent five minutes arguing with me about how im wrong.#00

‷ user fingers crossed sheâs back after the break
it was rather refreshing, to be back in your own apartment after weeks of living hotel to hotel. knowing where everything is, cooking for yourself, spending every night under your own covers. granted, after nights spent close to fernandoâs side, your double bed felt much emptier than it did before.
with the summer break begun, the lack of work was leaving you with little to do. and the apartment had been sitting empty for weeks, desperate for a deep cleaning. so, clad in an old shirt and some shorts, you got to work. halfway through wiping down the entire kitchen, your phone rang, silencing the nineties hits playlist youâd had on.
hurrying over in your fluffy socks, you glanced down at the ringing screen. fernando. you hadnât seen him since that morning lando had shown up in your hotel room. frankly, after your conversation with your brother, you fled the country as quickly as you could.
âhi,â you greeted him tentatively, after answering the call. he was quiet on the other end, your heart picking up its pace with every moment of silence.
âyou left without saying goodbye,â he eventually speaks, voice monotone and heavy. you curse him mentally for being so unreadable, so plain when he wants to be.
you sigh, a finger rubbing your brow bone as you settle yourself on the couch. âiâm sorry, ânando.â
you werenât sure of what else to say. you glanced at the time, ten minutes past eleven, wondering what time it was where fernando was. still in belgium? back home in spain? he wasnât here, and that seemed to squeeze at your heart.
âso, what does this mean?â the question you had been dreading. the question you had asked yourself the whole plane ride home, and every moment since.
âi donât know,â you murmured, truthfully. âitâs so complicated. if⊠if we keep this up, weâll only get attacked. and lando will constantly be on edge â i donât know if he could ever really accept it.â
âwe could make himââ fernando begins to argue, and you can hear the frustration in his voice now.
âplease, just listen.â he falls quiet and you lean back into the cushions. âi wonât be able to live knowing my brother didnât approve. i canât lose him, ânando, heâs my best friend. butâŠâ
your lip wobbles, a tear slipping down your cheek. one you quickly wipe away, willing your emotions to get back in shape. fernando notices the shake in your breath, and his heart breaks when he realises he canât do anything to help.
âbut⊠the time we spent together, it was wonderful. youâve taken my whole heart and iâve happily let you keep it. itâs not something i want to let go of.â
âcanât we have both?â fernando asks, ready to beg you to stay. âlando will come around. and who cares about the press? weâd have each other, thatâs what matters.â
âand what if it goes wrong?â you ask, almost too sharply. âwhat then? i can never come to a race again, because i wonât be able to face you? or we make it awkward between you and lando? he really looks up to you, fernando.â
âwhat could go wrong?â he asks, though he knows the answer. he knows about his own mistakes, and the reputation that came from it. but he would never dare break your heart, for it would only ruin his own.
âfernandoâŠâ
âmi amor, pleaseâŠâ he doesnât care how desperate he sounds, because he is desperate. desperate to love you, to have you forever. âat least let us try.â
you consider it for a moment, you really do. torn between the possible love of your life and your baby brother, the hellish debacle of the century. but blood ran thicker than water, right?
âwe never should have started this,â you brave the words, though they stab you in the process. but you know the only way to do this is to hurt him, to give him a reason to stay away. no matter how it kills you. âwe canât go on. itâs not like it ever could have worked, and you know itâs true.â
âno,â he replies firmly, holding himself together. âno, iâm not letting you go that easily.â
âiâm sorry, fernando. try and enjoy your break, okay?â you click the red end call button before he can reply, turning your phone off and sinking into the cushions, body soon racking with gentle sobs.

Not what you think -KSI
words: 0.7k+
warnings: angst, secret relationship, arguing.
summary: you accidentally fall in love with your brotherâs best friend.
notes: hey babe!! Iâm pretty sure you sent in my last JJ request (correct me if Iâm wrong) so Iâm gonna name you đ. Anyway let me know what you think and I hope you enjoy!đđ«¶đŒ
Me and JJ have been secretly dating for almost three months now. We've known each other for years since Simon's my big brother and they're best friends but just last year I realised I had feelings for him. I didn't act on those feelings so just kept them brewing inside for months because I assumed JJ didn't feel the same.
Until one night we were in a club, celebrating Calfreezy's birthday. We were both a little drunk so had some liquid confidence. He kissed me. But not a little peck, a full on make out session in the back of the club. I was shocked at first but when my brain registered that the person I'd had a massive crush on was basically showing me that he felt the same, I began kissing him back, with a slight sense of desperation and lust.
After that night we didn't talk for just under a week. Then I got a text from JJ asking if I would come round to his house to chat. I agreed, got ready and was outside his front door within thirty minutes of when he sent the message. We sat down on his couch, he was the first to speak. "How are you?" He asked. "Uh, I'm ok just a little confused." I fiddled with the hem of my top. "Confused about what?" "We kissed. You remember don't you?" I started with slight annoyance in my voice. He nodded. "Well you've been acting like it never even happened." He sighed "I'm just, you're- you're Simon's sister. We always agreed to 'never date the sister' but," he took a deep breath "I've liked you for a while now y/n, and I'm not sure if you feel the same way but-" I broke his sentence by kissing him, hard. "I'll take that as a yes then."
After that day we started dating. We already knew each other really well but he still took me out on a first date, then a second and well, now I've lost count. Since we decided to keep the relationship a complete secret we've both had to twist the truth a little. For example I told Simon that I had a boyfriend and JJ told him he had a girlfriend but we just avoided showing pictures or talking about each other.
We're planning on telling everyone this weekend at a party me and JJ planned especially, at my apartment. I'm really nervous and a little worried about how Simon will react. I spent the Friday night setting up so I could focus on getting ready on the Saturday. I bought a bunch of alcohol and some non alcoholic stuff for Tobi. When the day of the party rolled around I had a long everything shower then threw my hair in a towel while I had some lunch. By 6pm, I was fully ready. The party starts at seven. JJ came around forty five minutes early so we could talk about how the hell we were going to tell everyone (but especially Simon) that we'd be secretly together for months.
"It's gonna be fine, calm down." JJ gently rubbed my thigh as we sat on my sofa. I smiled up at him then moved myself closer to him "you're so cute." I whispered, our lips just millimetres apart. He closed the gap by pulling me into him and onto his lap so that I was sitting on his legs. My hands snaked around his neck and his rested firmly on my hips.
"What the fuck." I heard from the front door. I jumped up and my eyes widened when they met Simon's shocked face. In seconds both me and JJ were stood and making our way towards Simon. "We can explain-" JJ started. "No. You- I can't fucking believe this. She's my sister man!" Simon shouted, I flinched. "Simon we've been together for a while, this isn't something we chose. It just happened." I tried to soften the blow slightly. "What do you mean a while, how long?!" "Four months." JJ answered. "Four months! And you didn't think to tell me?!" I sighed "I was worried you'd react like this." "Well what do you expect when I find out my best friend's fucking my sister?!" My eyes widened. "It's not like that man. I love her." Simon's jaw dropped. "You love her?" JJ replied with a nod. "Oh."
"Hey guys! What's up?" Ethan burst through the door. "Uh, me and y/n were just telling Simon that we're together." JJ told him. "You what! Oh my god that's great! Isn't that great Simon!" He flung an arm round Simon's shoulder. Simon's face calmed "yea. I guess it is." A smile spread across my face. "I'm really happy for you too."

hurts so good | two
summary: growing up with Park Jinyoung was never easy and things are about to get worse when youâve been asked to marry him
one | two | three | four | five | six | seven | eight | nine | ten | eleven | twelve - final |
âExcuse me sir, how much longer? Iâm in a rush,â you asked as you nervously moved around in your seat inside the taxi.
âMaâam as you can see thereâs tons of traffic. I canât go any faster than this,â he protested.Â
âCan I get off here?â you asked him, kindly.
âSure, but you still have 10 minutes by drive. Itâll be a long walk,â he warned.
âThatâs alright. Thank you,â you said as you handed the fare to the driver. You picked up the trial of your dress and ran towards the venue where the charity ball was held. The driver was right, itâs a long way but you couldnât afford to be late. You were sure your toes would blister tomorrow but that didnât matter at least not to Jinyoung.Â
âWhat the hell took you so long?â Jinyoung asked as he sees you running towards him. The charity ball was filled with rich people who were desperate to make connections with money. Jaebum and Jinyoung were no different.
âIâm sorry there was so much traffic,â you said out of breath.Â
âI told you to leave the office earlier,â he blamed.Â
âNowâs not the time to argue,â Jaebum warned, looking around. "Y/N, youâre injured. What happened?â he asked, worried.
You looked down at your hands and knees that were all scratched up. âI thought I was going to be late so I ran here and fell,â you explained to the both of them.Â
âLetâs get you cleaned up,â he suggested, guiding you towards the back with less people.
âWait. Whereâs the auction item?â Jinyoung asked. You quickly handed it to him. He opens the box to reveal a shattered crystal pendant. âWhat the hell did you do?â he glared.
âOh no...â you gasped. âIâm so sorry. It mustâve shattered when I fell.â
âDo you know how expensive this was?â he said angrily. You bit your lip - you did know but you didnât do it on purpose. âWhat are we going to use to auction off?â You were left speechless; unsure of what to say or do. You knew you were clumsy but you didnât expect this to happen. âYou had one fucking job,â he whispered for only you and Jaebum to hear.Â
âJinyoung!âÂ
The three of you turned to look at whoever was calling Jinyoung. It was Mr. Kim and his beautiful daughter, Jisoo. Every year Jisoo and her dad would host a charity event. Jisoo loved doing charity work and she was very well known for making every event successful. Tonight would be no different.
Not only was Jisoo beautiful and kind, she was also Jinyoungâs best friend. They grew up together, just like you and Jinyoung did. They were close and he was always happy around her. One thing you knew for sure was Jinyoung always loved her. If she had loved him back, she would be Mrs. Park instead of you.Â
Jinyoungâs expression changed immediately after seeing them. âMr. Kim,â he greeted shaking his hand. âJisoo,â he smiled widely. You could tell it was genuine by the way his eyes wrinkled with every smile.
âIâm glad you all could make it. Whereâs Chaewon?â she asked Jaebum.Â
âSheâs sick so sheâs resting at home. She sends her apologies,â Jaebum answered.
âI hope she feels better,â Jisoo smiled. Everything about her was perfect - the way she walked, smiled and acted was perfect. âWhat are you auctioning tonight?âÂ
The three of you remained quiet; unsure of what you could auction off.Â
âIf I remember correctly, we donât necessarily need to auction off an item. We can auction off our skills, our time,â Jinyoung reminded.
âThatâs correct. Iâll be auctioning off my time - golfing lessons,â she smiled sweetly.Â
âGreat! Iâm auctioning her off,â Jinyoung suggested.
âWhat?â you and Jaebum said together making Jisoo giggle.
âYou mean Y/Nâs auctioning off her skills this time?â Jisoo clarified. But you donât have any skills worth auctioning.Â
âYes she is,â Jinyoung decided.Â
âGreat Iâll put you on this list,â Jisoo said to you. You nodded slowly and unwillingly.Â
âJisoo, do you have something to clean her up?â Jinyoung asked. She looked at you, concerned with your injuries.Â
âYes letâs go clean that up,â she tells you, extending her hand out to you. You followed her into the back. âIâm so glad you came! Itâll be fun,â she said cheerfully.Â
âI donât really know what skill to auction,â you revealed as she handed you a band aide.
âWhatever it is, Jinyoung will definitely bid on you so you donât have to worry.â You smiled nervously at her. She was right. Even if Jinyoung didnât love you, he would still bid on you because he needed to show everyone how much he âlovesâ his wife. âDonât be nervous. Jinyoungâs here remember,â Jisoo comforted.Â
You smiled at her, âThanks.â
She gave you another smile before walking onto the stage.Â
âOur beautiful host tonight will be auctioning her time - golfing lessons. Starting bid is $10,000,â the auctioneer said.Â
â$300,000,â Jinyoung called out.
â$500,000,â Mr. Kim called out immediately after Jinyoung. The both of them went back and forth until the bid was up to $1M. You watched from backstage at how Jinyoung nonchalantly bids on her; each time earning a smile from her. He was happy just by looking at her. $1M for this auction was way more than what the three of you had planned to spend as representatives for the company but Jinyoung didnât seem like he cared.Â
â$1.5 million,â Jinyoung called out again. Loud whispers and gasps filled the room - whatâs their relationship, is she worth that much?
You knew Jinyoung would never do the same for you. Sheâs special to him.
â$1.6 million,â Mr. Kim called out. Of course, he was willing to spend as much as he needed on his daughter. There was no way he was going to let a married man bid on his daughter.Â
âI appreciate both gentlemen showing interest in my time,â Jisoo interrupted. âThe children at the orphanage thanks you both for your generosity. Iâm willing to extend my offer to both gentlemen if theyâre willing to each donate $1.5 million.â
âThatâs no problem for me,â Jisooâs father immediately agreed.
âNo problem for me too,â Jinyoung agreed happily. There was no doubt that Jinyoungâs family was rich, but even though he was, $1.5 million for golfing lessons didnât seem worth it to you. It didnât seem worth it to Jaebum either.Â
You watched from backstage as Jisooâs father and Jinyoung walked on the stage to claim their âprizeâ. The reporters took pictures and they shook each otherâs hand - all seemed innocent to people who didnât know Jinyoung. But you knew your husband and you knew that he did this because he loved her and didnât want her to spend time with any other men here.Â
âNext up Mrs. Y/N Park,â the auctioneer announced.Â
You nervously walked up on stage; reporters taking pictures of you as you stood there. You scanned the bottom of the stage and Jinyoung was nowhere to be found. Where was he?Â
âStarting bid is $10,000,â the auctioneer said once again. Silence filled the room making you more and more nervous. Where the hell was Jinyoung? He was supposed to bid on you. âThe starting bid for Mrs. Park is $10,000. Any takers?â the auctioneer repeated.
This was embarrassing. You picked at your fingers nervously, desperate to find Jinyoung in the sea of people but he was no longer in the room. How could he leave when he knew you were up next? Whispers filled the room as people wondered who would bid on you? You wondered the same. The auctioneer chuckled nervously, unsure of how to proceed next. This has probably never happened before. People always bided on the items. You looked down at the floor, embarrassed.Â
â$100,000,â Jaebum called. You quickly looked up at him, relieved to hear a familiar voice.
â$100,000! Going once, twice, three times,â the auctioneer called out quickly, probably just as relieved as you. âCongratulations Mr. Im, please come up on stage.â Â
âThank you,â you whispered to Jaebum as he stood next to you to take the congratulatory picture.
âDonât worry about it,â he comforts, slightly rubbing your back. âSmile for the picture.âÂ
You nodded and smiled at the reporters as they took your pictures. Jinyoung came back after your turn. He sat down next to you as if he nothing was wrong, as if he didnât forget about you. He didnât even realize that you had already gone on stage. Were you that insignificant to him?
âStop right there,â Jaebum called as the three of you walked out of the charity event.Â
You and Jinyoung stopped in your steps, turning around to face Jaebum.Â
âWhat?â Jinyoung responded, annoyed.Â
âWhat the hell was that in there?â Jaebum asked, furious.Â
âWhat do you mean?âÂ
Jaebum chuckled in disbelief, âLetâs not even begin to talk about the fact that you spent $1.5M on Jisoo which was way more than we agreed on, but how could you leave Y/N stranded on stage by herself?â he questioned.Â
âShe wasnât stranded and I was on an important call,â Jinyoung defended. âYou were there to bid on her so why does it matter?âÂ
Jaebum grabs Jinyoung by the collar and shoves him against the wall. âSheâs your fucking wife. How do you think she feels seeing you bid on another women and not on her?â he said through his teeth. âYou embarrassed her.â
âWhy do you care so much about my wife?â Jinyoung smirked. âShe hasnât even said anything.â
âYou asshole,â he said raising his arm into a fist to throw a punch. You immediately reached for Jaebumâs hand, stopping him from hurting Jinyoung.
âStop!â you screamed. âThere are reporters everywhere.â
Jaebum shoves Jinyoung against the wall roughly again before letting him go. He straightens out his suit and turns to you. âHeâs not worth defending,â he said to you before walking away.
The car ride home with Jinyoung was quiet. You were hurt that he wasnât there to bid on you like you had thought he would. Everything Jaebum said was right. He embarrassed you and he didnât even care. He didnât even think about you. All he thought about was Jisoo and making sure she was taken care of.
âIt really was an important call,â he repeated to you. You let out a small hum, acknowledging his words but you didnât look at him. Your vision becomes blurry with tears as you stared straight ahead at the road.Â
Were you that naive to think that things would actually change after you got married? Did you really think that he would love you just because your names were written on a piece of paper?
You stood underneath the shower head, letting the scorching hot water hit your skin. The water hit your face, merging your tears with the hot water but the taste of your salty tears was still there. The water stung the scratches on your hands and knees but this pain was nothing compared to how your heart hurt and ached. Every heart beat felt like a punch to your stomach, like someone had their hands around your throat. You were unable to breath or move and there was nothing you could do but allow yourself to get beat up every time.Â
What could you have possibly done to make Jinyoung dislike you, his wife so much? Every memory you shared with Jinyoung ran through your mind daily. You couldnât think of any reason for him to hate you. You were always nice to him. You always loved him.
âLouise, whereâs Jinyoung?â you asked your housekeeper.Â
âYoung Mr. Park went out,â she responded.
âDid he say when heâll be back?âÂ
âNo maâam,â she answered, returning back to work. You sighed. The least he could do was tell you he was heading out at this hour. Jinyoung hasnât been coming home for several nights now. You canât help but think about the pink lipstick on the collar of his suit. Could he be spending the night with her?

âwhy, why am i afraid?â - ateez (mist
you hummed quietly to yourself as you sat on the edge of the low wall that surrounded the garden, letting your feet dangle in the air, mindlessly swinging them back and forth. the night air was cool and crisp, and the moon was glowing serenely against the midnight blue sky, bathing the garden in a soft, white light. it was late, and yet, despite the hectic evening youâd had, you couldnât bring yourself to sleep.Â
seonghwa, san, and the others had reluctantly disappeared into their small cottage to retire for the night, after you had assured them that you were just going to sit around in the garden for a few minutes before joining them. your mind was a whirlwind of thoughts. after all, you had just confessed your deepest and darkest secret to the people you considered family, and they hadnât scorned or turned you away like you thought they would. however, you werenât sure how you were going to gather up the courage to tell mingi.Â
you scoffed, immediately erasing the idea from your mind. donât be ridiculous, itâs not like he would care anyways. besides, youâre not supposed to fall for him, youâre supposed to break his heart, so it doesnât matter what he thinks of you. you ignored the bile rising in your throat. at first, you had thought that the task would be easy, as you were sure you werenât ever going to fall for someone again, especially not after the way your past romance had ended tragically.Â
you clenched the soft fabric of your blue chiton in your hands, feeling angry tears prick at the corner of your eyes. you hated feeling so conflicted, especially over someone of the opposite sex. after all, men had done nothing but disappoint you, and your ex lover had proved that true.Â
seonghwa couldnât sleep. he was too worried about you, especially now that he knew that hades had a motive to hurt you. his heart had ached as you broke down and told everyone your secret. he sighed, running a hand through his messy hair and looked around him. even in the darkness of the small room, he could just make out the vibrant blue of hongjoongâs hair, yeosangâs light blonde hair, wooyoung and san curled up against one another, and jongho and yunho sprawled out on the bed across from him. seonghwa allowed himself a small, fond smile. he was grateful that he was able to spend time with his family every day, and that they were always safe and sound at the end of the day.Â
seonghwa reluctantly slid out of his warm bed, shrugged his worn sandals on, slipped out the door and into the cool night. he wandered mindlessly around the garden, admiring how the blue and pink flowers that grew in its vicinity stood out against the dark of the night. the air was cool and soothing against his skin as he wandered farther, mind swimming with thoughts.Â
suddenly, seonghwa heard faint sobs, and felt his blood run cold. he wandered into a more secluded part of the garden, and felt his heart drop into his stomach. you were sitting at the edge of the low wall that surrounded the perimeter of the garden, hands gripping the soft fabric of your chiton so hard that your knuckles were turning white, and your body was shaking with soft sobs. seonghwa immediately ran over to you, throwing his arms around you, pulling you into a hug. âh-hwa. I-iâm s-sorry, did i wake you?â his heart ached at how dejected you sounded.Â
seonghwa shook his head, hugging you tighter and rubbing comforting circles on your back. âi couldnât sleep.â âiâm sorry for worrying you, i just needed to clear my head.â ây/n, stop apologizing. you did nothing wrong, and the fact that you mustered up the courage to tell us your secret mustâve been hard for you.â you sniffled and buried your face in the crook of his neck, letting out a shaky breath. âit was, but i didnât want to keep lying to everyone. none of you deserve to be lied to, not after all you all have done for me.âÂ
âdarling, please, none of what you did is your fault. itâs that godsdamn jerk hades. and never feel afraid to come to any of us for comfort, we are always here for you, ok?â seonghwa felt you nod weakly, and allowed himself a small smile. âgood. now, letâs get back inside before you freeze to death.â you chuckled, despite yourself. âhwa, itâs not even cold.â âdonât you dare argue with me, young lady.â seonghwa scolded lightheartedly. you rolled your eyes, glad he couldnât see it as he scooped you up into his arms, carrying you bridal style. âyes, father.â that earned you a playful glare. âi am not that old, you know!â you laughed, reaching up and ruffling seonghwaâs hair affectionately. âwhatever you say, old man.âÂ
you woke up the next morning to find yunho practically wrapped around you, his soft black hair tickling your cheek, and you smiled fondly, remembering all the nights you spent as kids curled up next to the muses you had come to call family, feeling safe and secure. the early morning sun cast beams of light across the floor of the small cottage, bathing it in gold.Â
you slowly and carefully extricated yourself from yunhoâs grip and headed outside to see if seonghwa needed help with tending to the garden. said male would wake up before everyone to tend to every plant and flower that occupied it, and you felt that helping seonghwa was the least you could to do to thank him for comforting you last night.Â
sure enough, seonghwa was bent over a bed of roses, golden eyes searching for any deformities. âhwa!â you called, and the formerâs expression lit up, a fond smile tugging at his lips, waving you over. âhow are the roses doing?â you asked, admiring how the pink rose petals stood out against the dark soil.  âtheyâre alright, despite this weather.â you hummed thoughtfully, reaching out and lightly touching the rose petals, velvet soft against your skin. âthank you.â âfor what?â seonghwa asked, moving on to another cluster of flowers, eyebrows furrowing in concentration. âfor last night. for comforting me.â the love museâs expression went soft, golden eyes glimmering with unshed tears. âno need to thank me, darling. youâve been through so much, and you deserve to have comfort. besides, weâre practically family, and weâre all supposed to there for each other, no matter what.âÂ
you smiled, reaching out and taking seonghwaâs hand in yours, squeezing gently. âdo you need help with the flowers?â the former shook his head, black hair falling across his forehead. âwell, is there anything i can do?â seonghwa smiled. âyou can help me by waking the others up.â you groaned, knowing how difficult that was. âthatâs going to take centuries, hwa!â âwell, the flowers arenât going to tend to themselves.â âarenât you the muse of love poetry?â âyeah, and what about it? i am perfectly capable of taking care of nature.â you laughed, reaching out and ruffling seonghwaâs hair affectionately. âof course you are. now, if youâll excuse me, i need to go wake up our little band of gremlins.â seonghwa chuckled softly as you turned and skipped towards the cottage, your heart seemingly lighter than before.Â
it had taken nearly forty five minutes to wake everyone up, save hongjoong, who had actually gotten up as soon as you had gently shaken his shoulder. the others had been a bit more difficult, especially jongho and yeosang, who were notorious for sleeping in late. another twenty minutes later, breakfast was served, and it had been fruit, a few vegetables, bread, and cheese that seonghwa had managed to snag from the local market earlier that morning. then, yunho suggested that they lay out underneath the huge tree that took up a portion of the garden, of which everyone had agreed to, to your surprise.Â
âwhen are you going to be done sulking?â ânot sulking.â mingi mumbled, leaning against the tree heâd been sitting under for the past few hours, the bark rough against his back. maddox scoffed. âyeah, and iâm a descendant of zeus. youâre not fooling anyone, kid.â mingi sighed. âi just-â âmissing her already?âÂ
he felt his face burn. âs-shut up.â âthereâs no need to be embarrassed, you know. i know i tease, but i genuinely want to see you happy, kid. you deserve it.âÂ
âwhat if she doesnât feel the same?â mingi mumbled, blush deepening. he felt silly, pining after a girl he barely knew, but you were unlike anyone he had met. he heard maddox scoff. âplease, that girl cannot fool anyone, even with her tough and stubborn façade.â âeven if she liked me, would we even work?â maddoxâs expression softened just a fraction, and he moved forward, placing a gentle hand on mingiâs shoulder, as if in comfort. âthatâs something youâll have to figure out yourself, kid.â mingi huffed. âthatâs what iâve been trying to do.â âgive it time, itâll come to you eventually.â
mingiâs mind was still heavy with conflict as he walked along a long dirt path that would lead him to the cottage he resided in. even though he had been offered nicer accommodation in the city, mingi preferred to live in a more secluded area and one that was closer to nature. the late evening air was crisp and clean as he ventured further down the path, mind constantly wandering. his conversation with maddox earlier that day had done little to soothe his anxiety. mingi was so lost in thought that he bumped into someone. âiâm so sorry i-â mingi felt his mouth suddenly go dry, as if heâd swallowed sandpaper. âwonder boy?â you asked, leaning back against a tree, keeping your expression as nonchalant as possible. even in the darkness, you could still make out the blush that was forming on mingiâs face. in the soft glow of the moon, mingi looked as gorgeous as ever, and you ignored the slight ache in your heart at the sight of him. âh-hi.â he stammered.. âwhat brings you out here at this time of night?â âjust passing through.â âbeen a while since weâve seen each other, huh?â âbeen busy.â mingi mumbled, running a hand through his already messy hair. you frowned at the slight annoyance in his tone, but didnât think anything of it. âwell, see you around.â you muttered, pushing off the tree with your elbow and walked away, not bothering to look back.
âeverything ok?â yunho asked, light green eyes filled with worry. you sighed, leaning your head on the tall maleâs shoulder, shaking your head slightly. immediately, an arm wrapped around your shoulders, squeezing gently. âwhat happened?â âitâs stupid.â âjust tell me.â âfine. on my way here, i bumped into mingi, quite literally, at that.â âand?â what happened that has you so sad?â âdo we need to beat someone up?â an amused smile tugged at the corner of your lips, and you laughed. âwell, let me finish telling you and then iâll let you and the others decide.â âwhat did he do?â âwell, he seemed different.â âdifferent how?â âi donât know, itâs just the way he talked to me. he sounded kind of annoyed?â you felt yunho tense a little, the grip on your shoulders a little firmer, and you reached down and laced your fingers with his, squeezing gently. âiâm sure he was just having a bad day. donât kill him, please. i canât have you or the others being thrown into tarturus for beating someone up.â yunho huffed. âfine, but if he hurts you, iâll get san to break his legs.â you laughed, snuggling deeper into the tall maleâs side. âiâll keep that in mind, then.âÂ
you tried not to laugh at the way seonghwa and jonghoâs jaws clenched as you told them about what happened between you and mingi earlier that night. âiâll kill him.â âno killing anyone, please. itâs not that big of a deal, he was probably having a bad day, everyone does.â âok, but he didnât have to take his annoyance out on you.â âyes, but-â ânext time you see mingi, tell him that i will not hesitate to break his legs if he hurts you again.â âhe wonât, i promise. like i said, he was probably having a bad day.â san huffed. âlet him know.â âok, ok, i will.âÂ
âenough about my love life.â âoh, so youâre admitting you have one?â yunho asked, light green eyes twinkling with mirth. âs-shut up, i do not.â wooyoung snorted, plopping down next to san, who rolled his eyes in amusement as the former laid his head on his shoulder. âyou totally do, darling.â ânot you too, hwa.â âsorry, but i have to agree with wooyoung.â you groaned, throwing yourself down onto the grass, laying your head in hongjoongâs lap, who just chuckled and ran a hand through your hair. âtough day, y/n?â âs-shut up, iâve had enough bullying for one day.âÂ
âi messed up.â mingi mumbled, plopping down on the soft grass next to maddox, who only sighed in response. âwhat did you do this time?â âi mightâve lashed out.â âloversâ quarrel?â âwould you quit that? no, it wasnât a lovers quarrel, i just- i donât know, i guess i was so conflicted about my feelings that i took my anger out on her. what do i do?â âapologize.â âi-itâs not that easy, you know.â though mingi wasnât looking in his direction, he could tell that his mentor was rolling in his eyes in exasperation. âit is, actually, you just walk up to her, say iâm sorry, and then you two live happily ever after for the rest of your days.â
mingi frowned. âiâm serious.â âi am too. look, kid, if youâre not going to apologize, then iâll do it for you.â âplease donât.â âi will if you would stop being a coward.â âi-iâm not a coward, she just makes me nervous, thatâs all.â âi know itâs difficult, but if you donât tell her how you feel soon, she might move on and find someone else.â ây-yeah, like who?â maddox shrugged. âi donât know, maybe one of those muses she always hangs around.â âwhat? what muses?â âthe muses? you seriously donât know them?â âi-i do, i just have never seen them.â âwell, sheâs always around them, and theyâre all pretty handsome, so i suggest you hurry up and profess your love or whatever before one of them steal her away.â
âthey could probably treat her better than me anyways.â he mumbled, which earned him an elbow to the ribs. âwhat was that for?â âwould you quit being so pitiful? you never know until you try, and besides, i think she might feel the same.â âdoubt it, but fine, iâll try.â maddox grinned, reaching out and patting his shoulder gently. âthatâs the spirit, kid.â
the late afternoon sun bathed the forest in light as mingi leaned against a tree, ignoring how the rough bark dug into his back. his heart leaped in his chest as he heard soft footsteps approaching, and felt his breath catch in his throat at the sight of you. you were a vision in a light pink toga that stood out against your skin, dark hair framing your face perfectly. âhi wonderboy.â you called out, and mingi felt his face flush at the mere sound of your voice.Â
âh-hi.â âwhy did you want to see me?â âi wanted to apologize for how i acted the other day. i wasnât feeling the greatest, and i took my annoyance out on you.â âitâs fine, donât worry about it. although, my friends were quite worried and threatened to beat you up.â mingi winced. you laughed softly. âdonât worry. my friends are harmless even though they act like they arenât sometimes.â âso, iâm forgiven, then?â âmingi, you were forgiven the moment you sent a scroll asking to talk to me.â you shrugged. âbesides, i wasnât offended, i just figured you were having a bad day, like you said.â mingi allowed himself a smile, and felt his pulse race when you returned it.Â
âso, howâd it go with mingi?â wooyoung asked, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively. seonghwa rolled his eyes and smacked the former lightly on the shoulder. âwill you quit that?â the blond male only huffed in protest, but the curious glint never left his eyes. âwhatâs there to tell? he apologized, and that was it.â âseriously? no passionate kiss in the forest? no getting pressed up against a tree and making out? nothing? not even a kiss on the cheek? you two are so lame.â wooyoung sighed, dramatically falling into yeosangâs lap, who rolled his eyes in response.Â
âjung wooyoung, if you donât shut up right now, i will not hesitate to-â âyeah, yeah, i know, throw me into the depths of the underworld.â âexactly.â âitâs what you deserve, honestly.â yeosang mumbled, but made no move to shove the aforementioned muse off his lap. âyeosang! i thought we were friends.â âif you call barely tolerating you on a daily basis, then yes.âÂ
you laughed in amusement at their incessant bickering. âyeosang, stop being so harsh on wooyoung. heâs sensitive, you know.â âi am not!â the dance muse protested. hongjoong scoffed, not looking up from the elaborate flower crown he was making, rolling his eyes. âsays the guy who wouldnât stop sulking after san ignored him for a whole day because he accidentally spilled wine on his brand new toga.â âit was a whole week, and it hurt!âÂ
san sighed. âwhy am i friends with this idiot?â âbecause you love me.â âbelieve what you want, wooyoung.â jongho rolled his eyes. âhongjoong hyung!â said muse looked up from his now finished flower crown, carefully placing it on his head, hazel eyes widening in surprise. âyes, jongho?â âc-could you help me with this verse for a hymn? been stuck on it for days.â
hongjoongâs face broke out into a wide smile, eyes turning into crescents, then flung himself at seonghwa, who stumbled a bit from the sudden attack, but recovered and wrapped his arms around the former, holding him tight. âwhatâs wrong, joong?â he asked, voice as gentle as ever, but the amused smile tugging at his lips was obvious. âj-jongho finally asked me to h-help him.â hongjoong wailed, burying his face into seonghwaâs chest, soft sobs wracking his body. seonghwa bit back a laugh as he patted hongjoongâs head gently.Â
âare those tears of joy? or?â you laughed, reaching out and patting jonghoâs shoulder gently. âdefinitely tears of joy. heâs been waiting for this moment for a millennia.â âfinally, iâve been spared!â yeosang cried out happily. jongho huffed. âi hate you.â yeosang only beamed. âlove you too!â you rolled your eyes at their bickering. âhave fun writing with hongjoong, heâs really been waiting for this day for ages.â jongho sighed. âi know. he wouldnât stop whining to seonghwa hyung about it.â âyeah, i know, heâs also complained to me too.â âjongho! hurry up!â hongjoong called.Â
you laughed at the embarrassment on jonghoâs face as he mumbled his goodbyes and ran over to hongjoong, both of them disappearing behind an alcove of trees seconds later. âhe must be really happy, huh?â âyeah, he is.âÂ
âhow are things with mingi?â seonghwa inquired once everyone was distracted with the field of flowers a few feet away, marveling at the colorful petals. âhonestly? iâm not sure. weâre not lovers, after all. i donât even know if weâre friends. i guess weâre just acquaintances?â seonghwa rolled his eyes. âso, youâre telling me that after all the encounters youâve had with each other that your relationship with him is still unknown?â you smiled sheepishly. âi-i guess?â the silver haired male sighed in exasperation. âyou two are giving me a headache.â you laughed, leaning against seonghwaâs side, resting your head on his shoulder. the aforementioned muse immediately wrapped an arm around you. âbut you love me.â âyeah, yeah.â you smiled, snuggling deeper into seonghwaâs warmth and allowing a comfortable silence to settle between the two of you.Â
âmingi dare not break her heart, or i will personally throw him into the depths of the underworld.â wooyoung muttered, breaking off a petal of the rose he had in his hand, letting it gently float in the wind before settling peacefully in the grass around him. âstop destroying nature, would you?â san scolded, snatching the rose out of wooyoungâs hand, earning a squawk of protest from the latter. âwhile i agree with you, woo, i donât think we should just charge at him like a minotaur gone truly mad.â âthen, what do you think we should do, oh wise one?âÂ
âwe should just talk to him, peacefully and without violence?â wooyoung scoffed. âthatâs a terrible idea. do you want y/nâs heart to be broken?â âof course not, itâs just- heâs stronger than all of us, thereâs no way any of us could take him in a real fight.â âyunhoâs right, weâre all as thin as wheat and canât lift anything remotely heavy.â âthatâs not true! weâre not that weak!â yeosang rolled his eyes, but didnât argue.Â
âwhy are we discussing murder?â a voice cut in, interrupting their conversation. yunho turned and saw seonghwa standing at the entrance of the garden, lean arms crossed over his chest, golden eyes twinkling with amusement. you were beside him, looking as equally amused as the former. âweâre not discussing murder, weâre just-â san slapped a hand over wooyoungâs mouth before he could continue, smiling nervously, ignoring how the latter squirmed, mumbling something incoherent. âwe were discussing just how much of a great person you are, hyung.âÂ
seonghwa bit back a laugh. âis that so?â âyes, of course! we would never think of murdering anyone! weâre too innocent and pure to commit such a wicked act!â unlike seonghwa, you laughed, the sound ringing in the air. âyou are all so dramatic.â â i honestly donât know why iâm still hanging around you all.â âthatâs because you have no other friends than us, yeosang.â wooyoung chirped, earning him a glare from the comedy muse.Â
âplease donât start fights, especially with mingi. i donât want to see any of you hurt.â wooyoung beamed, throwing himself onto seonghwa, hugging him tightly. âso you do love us, hyung!â the older rolled his eyes. âno, iâm just tired of you all being a pain in my ass all the time. so please save me the trouble and not try to kill anyone, ok?â san pouted. âyouâre so cruel, hyung!â âbelieve what you want, san.â âanyways, do you know when hongjoong and jongho will be back? they need to help out with supper later.â âwell, theyâre probably going to be done, at least, hopefully, before the sun sets.â âok, then iâll just go gather the vegetables and fruit.âÂ
âhwa, i might need some help, that is, if youâre willing to.â seonghwa smiled, expression soft and gentle. âof course, iâd be happy to.â as soon as they were out of earshot, wooyoung leaned forward, making sure to keep his voice as low as possible.Â
âis it just me, or is seonghwa hyung in love?â yeosang rolled his eyes, smacking the blond haired muse on the shoulder. âquit being delusional, seonghwa hyungâs always looked at her like that, we all do, you know. he cares about her just like he does the rest of us. besides, even if seonghwa hyung felt any sort of romantic way about y/n, she wouldnât return his feelings and heâd get heartbroken.â âyou never know! she could just be trying to use mingi as a distraction to get her mind off of him.â âyouâre by far the dumbest person i know, woo.â âi know what i saw, yeosang!â âthen prove it.â âwhat?â âif you can prove to me that seonghwa hyung really has feelings for y/n that are far from platonic, then i will not pick on you for a whole year.â wooyoungâs eyes brightened with determination. âget ready to bite back your words!â âcanât wait.âÂ
mingi softly hummed to himself as he walked through the forest, admiring how the sun shone through the leaves, bathing it in golden beams of light. his last meeting with you had gone well, better than he expected. âdaydreaming about going on picnic dates with your girlfriend?â âno, and sheâs not my girlfriend.â âsure, sure, keep lying to yourself.â âwhy did you even go with me? arenât you supposed to be, i donât know, doing important things?âÂ
maddox scoffed. âplease, as if the officials need me for anything.â his mentor made subsequent trips to the heart of the city, where the council presided, looking over and approving laws. a comfortable silence settled around them as they continued on through the forest.Â
suddenly, they heard laughter from a few feet away. and before mingi could say anything, maddox grabbed his wrist and pulled him in the direction of said laughter. âwhat are you doing?â âyouâre not curious where the laughter is coming from?â ânot really-â he was cut off a few seconds later when maddox suddenly stopped in his tracks. âwhatâs wrong?â
âkid, iâm sorry.â âabout what?â he ignored maddox as he tried to prevent him from going past. mingi froze when he saw what maddox had been trying to prevent him from seeing. it was you, looking as beautiful as ever in a dark blue toga, holding a basket full of vegetables and fruit. but you were not alone. a tall male with silver hair, dressed in a white toga, an impossibly soft smile on his face, stood next to you. then, said male took the basket from you, pulling you into his side and wrapping a slender arm around your waist.Â
mingi waited for you to push him away, which otherwise never occurred. then, what came next felt as if his heart was going to be ripped out of his chest. you smiled and leaned into the maleâs embrace, resting your head on his shoulder. he had had enough. mingi fought back tears as he ran away, ignoring maddox calling his name in the distance.Â
âcalm down!â maddox shouted, gripping mingiâs shoulders tightly. âwhy should i? after what i saw?â âyou know, thereâs such a thing as jumping to conclusions, which is exactly what youâre doing right now! and even if that guy was her lover, what does it matter to you? youâre not together anyway, right?â âiâm fully aware of that, but it still hurts just as much. i need to be alone.â mingi mumbled, trying to keep his voice as even as possible. as soon as the grip on his shoulder loosened, he ran off into the forest, vision blurring.Â
dinner consisted of fruit and vegetables, along with a few quail eggs that seonghwa had managed to pick up at the market earlier that day. the early evening air was cool and crisp, and there was a light breeze that caused the leaves to sway gently. âwere you able to write the hymn?â jongho nodded as he popped a strawberry into his mouth, chewing thoughtfully. âit wasnât easy, but it is finished.â seonghwa smiled fondly, reaching out and ruffling the youngerâs hair affectionately. âiâm glad.â âdid you spend time with y/n today?â wooyoung blurted, light blue eyes glimmering with anticipation, âyes, yes i did. we gathered the fruits and vegetables for supper. why?â âno reason hyung, just curious.â he mumbled, taking a sip of wine. seonghwaâs eyebrows furrowed in confusion, but he didnât press further. yeosang pursed his lips tightly and looked away, trying to will himself to disappear. the former shrugged and merely got up and walked away to the center of the garden.Â
once he was out of earshot, yeosang elbowed wooyoung in the side, causing the latter to cry out in protest. âwhat was that for?â âcould you be any more obvious?â âwhat are you talking about? i was very subtle!â yeosang rolled his eyes. âyou were not.â âdo you really think seonghwa hyung doesnât have any sort of romantic feelings towards y/n?â âi really do.â âi will prove you wrong, just you wait!â âiâll be waiting for the day when you do.âÂ
you sat underneath a tree with seonghwa, curled up into his side, resting your head on his shoulder. the night sky was glittering with stars, bathing the garden in soft white light. âdo you think my relationship with mingi will become something more?â âi canât give you a sure answer, but i think if you allow a space for him in your heart, then maybe something will happen.âÂ
âwhen did you get soâŠâ âcheesy? romantic? well, i am the muse of love poetry, in case you forgot.â âright, you write cheesy poems for a living.â âmy poems are masterpieces, just so you know.â âi apologize, oh humble one. i did not mean to slander your poems, which a truly a gift to mankind.â âstop feeding my ego.â you laughed, snuggling deeper into seonghwaâs side. âok, ok, iâll stop.âÂ
âthis is going to sound very clichĂ© and cheesy-â âdarling, please, i write romantic poems for a living. try me.â âi just- iâm grateful.â âfor what?â âfor not neglecting me. for taking care of me when i had no one else, and for giving me a home when my parents left me all alone, defenseless and starving.â you hadnât realized you were crying until seonghwa pulled you into a warm and tight embrace, rubbing comforting circles on your back. âlet it out, itâs okay.â âiâm sorry for breaking down like this, but-â âdonât apologize, darling. we are always here for you, and itâs perfectly okay to have an off day, weâve all been there.â âi just-â âyou donât need to explain yourself, you never do. just promise me you wonât hide your pain from us? we hate to see you miserable.âÂ
you nodded, leaning further into seonghwaâs embrace, burying your face in the crook of his neck, the scent of roses hitting your nose. the smell was comforting, and you felt your eyelids droop, and you let sleep take over. seonghwa smiled fondly at the sleeping girl in his arms, looking peaceful and at ease. he brushed a stray strand of hair off your forehead, tucking it gently behind your ear. the night was cool and crisp and tame, just how seonghwa preferred it to be.Â
âhyung?â a quiet voice said behind him. he turned around, careful not to wake you, and saw yeosang standing behind him.âyeosang? what is it? is something wrong?â san hesitated as he saw the immediate concern on seonghwaâs face. âi- i just wanted to see if y/nâs alright.â âsheâs fine, just tired. why?â âah, no reason, just curious.â âsan, are you ok? youâre acting a bit strange.â âiâm alright, just tired. wooyoung âs been a pain in my ass all day.â seonghwa chuckled at that. âperfectly understandable. wooyoung can be quite the handful sometimes.âÂ
yeosang gave the older an awkward wave, trying not to run away in embarrassment across the grass. as soon as he plopped down next to wooyoung, said male turned to him anticipation. âso, what did you see?â âshe was asleep in seonghwa hyungâs arms; they were practically cuddling.â wooyoung clapped excitedly, and yeosang smacked him on the shoulder. âcut that out. just because i caught them cuddling doesnât prove anything. sheâs fallen asleep on all of us at some point.â âwas she on his lap?â âwhat in tarturus? no, of course not.â âshe was curled up in his arms, thatâs all.âÂ
âare you seriously still convinced that seonghwa hyung doesnât pine for her?â yeosang sighed. âlook, wooyoung, you should really just give up on this, i mean, donât you think trying to prove something that you know isnât true a waste of time?â âit may be to you, but not to me! he loves her, iâm sure of it!â âjust donât go overboard, ok?â âi wonât, i swear on the river styx.â âi sense empty promises, but fine.âÂ
mingi sat on the edge of a ravine, feet dangling dangerously in the air, dried tears on his cheeks. he didnât know when the crying had stopped, nor did he know how he ended up at the very edge of the forest. maddox was standing a few feet away, giving him space, which mingi was grateful for. his mind was swimming with thoughts and his heart ached.Â
he felt pathetic, for even thinking that someone like him had a chance with you. you looked happy, happier than he had ever seen you. there was a part of him that was happy that you were being cherished, for it was what you truly deserved. i was foolish to think that she ever showed any interest in me as a lover, mingi thought glumly, fighting back another deluge of tears. he heard soft footsteps behind him and a few seconds later, a warm and gentle hand was on his shoulder. mingi sighed. âare you going to give me a lecture about how much of a fool i am?â âof course not, and youâre anything but that.â he let out a bitter, sad laugh. âhow would you know that?â âbecause iâve been your mentor for years, and while you were a bit clumsy at first, you persisted.â âwhat are you trying to say?â âiâm trying to tell you that you shouldnât give up! so what if she has a potential suitor? make her see what sheâs missing!â âyou want me to make her jealous?â âexactly! then sheâll realize just how much of a great hero and guy you are, and then sheâll practically beg for you to be her lover.â mingi shook his head. âthereâs no way in tarturus iâm doing that.â âwhy not?!â âi donât want to make anger her for my personal gain, itâs not right.âÂ
âok, then, what do you think you should do?â âyou saw her! she looks happy, and i donât want to ruin that for her. i should try to move on.â maddox sighed. âdo you even know who she was with?â ân-no? should i know him?â âdo you remember when i mentioned the muses?â âvaguely.âÂ
his mentor rolled his eyes. âanyway, the guy you saw her with was one of the nine muses.â âw-what? how did you know?â âi thought it was pretty clear.â âhow can you-â âcenturies ago, they attended one of the council meetings. the muse you saw her with was the one who did most of the talking.â âi thought muses didnât involve themselves with the council.â âthey donât, but maybe they had a reason to.âÂ
âthat doesnât mean anything, he could be her lover.â âbelieve what you want, kid. iâm not going to attempt to convince you otherwise. just donât sulk about it too much.â with that, maddox walked away, leaving him with his thoughts and a heavy heart.Â
âare you close with seonghwa hyung?â you laughed, carefully rolling up another scroll and placing it back on the massive shelf in front of you. âwhat do you mean, woo? iâm close with all of you.â âi know that, but-â âbut?â ânever mind.â wooyoung mumbled, plopping down on a nearby chair, lips forming a visible pout. you sighed in exasperation, walking over to said sulking male, ruffling his hair affectionately. âwhatâs wrong, woo?â ânothing, iâm just tired from yesterday evening, i suppose.â âoh, well, why did you come along with me, then? you didnât have to, i know reading scrolls can be quite a bore.â âi didnât want to leave you all alone. if something happened to you, seonghwa hyung would have my head.â you smiled, pulling the dance muse into a tight embrace. âwooyoung, thatâs very sweet of you, but you know i can handle myself.âÂ
âi know, but if hades-â âhe hasnât come after me yet, and i doubt he will soon. even if he does, he wonât hurt me, at least, not enough to kill me.â ây/n! donât say that! we wouldnât be able to live with ourselves if something happened to you.â you felt your heart ache and hugged wooyoung tighter. âiâm sorry for saying that, i just-â âitâs ok, y/n. just promise me that youâll let us protect you?â you nodded. âi will, i promise.âÂ
âwhat do you think of y/n?â yeosang asked, quite abruptly at that, and seonghwa felt his eyes widen in shock at the sudden bluntness. âi donât quite understand the question, yeosang, i-â âjust answer it.â âok, ok, uhm, well, sheâsâŠ.â the former gestured for seonghwa to continue. âsheâs wonderful. sheâs very caring, loving, and is very selfless. y/n is always there for us, always.âÂ
yeosang felt guilt rising in his stomach. he hated lying to seonghwa, especially after he now knew that wooyoung was completely wrong about how the older felt about y/n. at least, it was clear to him that she was nothing more than a dear friend, a sister, even. âare you alright?â yeosang snapped out of his thoughts, giving a worried seonghwa a half smile that he hoped was convincing enough. âiâm fine, just exhausted.âÂ
seonghwaâs golden eyes narrowed in suspicion, but he didnât press further. âi have to go help y/n with something, iâll see you in the evening?â yeosang managed a brief nod before the former walked off.Â
he sighed, leaning back on the rough bark of a tree behind him. things were definitely going to get even more complicated, and yeosang wasnât looking forward to it in the slightest.Â
âdonât you think wooyoung and yeosang are being a little... â âstrange?â âi suppose? wooyoung asked me if iâm close to you.â seonghwa raised an amused eyebrow, carefully rolling up a scroll. âclose in what way?â suprisingly, you felt your cheeks flush scarlet. âi-â âas lovers?â ây-yes.â âah, well, that is quite amusing.â âis it?â seonghwa nodded, golden eyes twinkling with mirth. âyou are not angry?â âwhy would i be angry? any man would be lucky to have you.â âthank you, hwa.â his expression softened, if that was even possible. you smiled, carefully pulling another scroll from the shelf. âiâve always loved coming here.â âi know. whenever we visited the town, you would beg us to take you to the library so you could read scrolls.â you blushed. âthat mustâve been quite irritating.âÂ
seonghwa shook his head. ânot at all, it was quite endearing.â âiâve always loved stories, even as a child. though i donât remember much about my parents, i know they always told me them to help me sleep. that is, before they abandoned me.â you didnât even realize you were crying until strong arms were around you, pulling you into a comforting and tight embrace.Â
âiâm sorry, i donât know why iâm being so emotional all the time. you must think iâm being dramatic.â seonghwa scoffed. âyou are not. iâm the one who should be asking for your forgiveness.â âhwa-â âhear me out, ok? i was the one who suggested we come here, and that was a terrible thing to do, because it surfaced tragic memories of your past. iâm so sorry, darling, i shouldâve been more considerate-âÂ
âhwa, listen to me. it was not your fault. you didnât know, and besides, i think itâs important for me to bring the painful memories to light instead of dwelling on them. iâve been resenting my parents for centuries, and i think itâs time i start trying to forgive them.â seonghwaâs expression softened, as it always seemed to whenever he looked at you, a small smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. âif you need any assistance, iâm here for you, and so are the others.â âi know, thank you, hwa. i really donât know what i would do without any of you in my life.âÂ
âthat was extremely clichĂ©, but iâll let it slide because the feeling is mutual.â âyouâre the absolute worst, you know that?â seonghwa laughed, eyes crinkling at the corners. âi know, but you love me.â âcorrection, i tolerate you, thereâs a difference.â that earned you a light shove to the shoulder, and you couldnât help but throw your head back and laugh, feeling lighter than you had been in centuries.Â
nearby, certain muses were deep in conversation. âwooyoung, i really think we should put an end to our bet, i mean, thereâs no point anymore.â âwhy? did seonghwa hyung tell you something? or did you tell him about it?â yeosang sighed in frustration. âi didnât tell him anything, i just really think it would be best to stop.â wooyoung huffed. âhow can you be so sure?â âi just- look, i really donât think seonghwa hyung loves y/n in a romantic way.â âsuit yourself, yeosang, iâm going to prove it.â âdo what you want.âÂ
âkid, are you even listening to me?â maddoxâs worried voice snapped mingi out of the trance heâd been under, bringing him back to reality. the former sighed. âletâs take a break.â mingi nodded, carefully putting the bow and arrow heâd been holding off to the side, plopping down onto the soft grass beneath him, the blades tickling his bare legs. âare you alright?â maddox asked, his voice unusually soft, as if mingi were a fawn that would run away the instant it heard a loud noise. mingi didnât reply, just shook his head softly and hugged his knees to his chest, somehow managing to look small and almost vulnerable, despite his bulk.Â
maddox sighed, settling down beside him on the grass. âi know that sulking over unrequited love is trivial and a little pathetic of me-â âitâs not pathetic. youâre heartbroken, and itâs okay to sulk.â mingi managed a small, grateful smile. âthank you.â âiâve never felt this way about anyone, and i know thatâs clichĂ©, but itâs true. sheâs the only girl who doesnât fawn over me like everyone else, she doesnât even know about my being a hero or slaying monsters!â âshe knows you as mingi, not mingi the hero.â âyes, and that simple fact makes it hurt even more.â Â
mingi didnât even realize he was crying until he felt a comforting hand on his shoulder, squeezing gently. âitâs okay, kid, let it out. iâm sorry for pushing you too hard to train. i didnât realize you were still grieving.â âstop making it sound as if iâm mourning the loss of a loved one.â mingi scolded, but it was light-hearted. âiâll be okay, i just need time.â âtake all the time you need, iâll be here for you if you ever need a shoulder to cry on.â âthank you.â âiâll likely forget about her, so donât get your hopes up.â maddox grimaced. he knew that mingi would most definitely not do such a thing, and that he would sulk about her for gods knew how long. i just hope he doesnât completely fall apart, maddox thought, fighting back tears.Â
seonghwa hummed softly to himself as he admired the deep purple hyacinths on either side of him, contrasting greatly with the forest green of the grass. the day was perfect, with a light, refreshing breeze tugging at his hair and toga, ruffling the leaves and branches of trees, the sky cloudless and blue, and the sun shining golden beams of light upon the earth. the air was just the right temperature, and seonghwa absolutely adored days like these.Â
wooyoung, jongho, yeosang, and san had all gone to the town marketplace to find food for supper, and you and hongjoong were in the center of the garden, weaving flower crowns, which left seonghwa by himself for a bit. not that he minded, of course, seonghwa secretly enjoyed it when he got some time for himself, so he can be alone with his thoughts.Â
while he loved his fellow muses dearly, it could get overwhelming to be around them at times. seonghwa never took the moments he got to himself for granted, for they were rare. seonghwa was so lost in thought that he didnât notice you settling down on the grass beside him, a hand woven crown of roses on your head. âhwa?â you asked, which made him jump in surprise.Â
âwhen did you get here?â âabout a few seconds ago, why?â âno reason, just, you scared me, is all.â you smiled in amusement. âyouâre always so easily startled, huh?â seonghwa felt his face flush scarlet. âwerenât you with hongjoong?â âi was, but he insisted i keep you company.â âi hope iâm not bothering you, you seemed like you wanted to be alone for a while.âÂ
seonghwa nodded sheepishly. âwell, one part of that is true.â âwhich one?â âthe second, because you could never bother me.â that earned him a light shove to the shoulder. âwhen did you get so cheesy?â âiâm the muse of love poetry, cheesy is all i know how to write.â you laughed, and seonghwa ignored the way his heart sped up a bit at the sound. âwhat were you thinking about?â âyou donât have to tell me, of course, only if youâre willing.â âitâs okay, i wasnât thinking about anything in particular, actually.â âjust daydreaming then?â seonghwa smiled. âperhaps.âÂ
you returned his smile, eyes crinkling at the corners, and the sight made seonghwaâs heart clench painfully. he felt his pulse race as you moved closer to him and laid your head on his shoulder, all the while making sure not to crumple your flower crown. youâd done this many times before, but it never failed to make seonghwaâs heart race. he knew it was pathetic and silly to harbor feelings for someone who would never return them, but he couldnât help it. you were kind, loving, the most gorgeous woman heâd ever seen, and whenever you looked at him, it felt like a punch to the gut. he loved the way your expression would brighten when visiting the town library, looking at various scrolls. most off all, he loved how selfless you were, and that you would do anything for the ones you loved.
while it was extremely painful to see you long for someone else, you were at least happy, and that was all that mattered to seonghwa. you deserved someone who would cherish you for the rest of your life, and who would never hurt you. seonghwa ignored the shiver that ran down his spine as you snuggled closer into his side. as if on impulse, he wrapped an arm around your shoulders, your bare skin warm against his own, and held you tight. âare you alright?â âyes, just a bit exhausted. is it alright if i take a short nap?â âgo ahead, iâll wake you once itâs time for supper.â you shot him a grateful smile, and seconds later, you were fast asleep. seonghwa sighed heavily, resisting the urge to hide his face in his hands to hide the blush that was forming on his face. i need to get ahold of myself, he thought.Â
wooyoung hid the smirk that was tugging at his lips as he caught sight of you cuddled up against seonghwa, resting your head on his shoulder. â what are you doing?â a voice asked, which made wooyoung jump in shock. âsan! did you have to sneak up on me like that?â said male rolled his eyes. âi didnât sneak up on you, you were just too busy staring at seonghwa and y/n that you didnât notice.âÂ
âare you stalking them or something?â wooyoung huffed in frustration and hit san gently on the shoulder. âi am doing nothing of the sort!â âthen, what are you doing?â âiâm observing?â âseriously, woo?â what? just think of it as supervising.â san just sighed in frustration. âyou really expect me to believe that? y/n can take care of herself, and seonghwa would rather get thrown into the depths of the underworld than even think of hurting her. whatâs the real reason youâre watching them like a creep?â wooyoung sighed. âkeep this a secret, okay?â san nodded. though his expression seemed uninterested, his violet eyes were glinting with curiosity. when wooyoung was done explaining, san burst out laughing.Â
âyou think iâm insane, donât you?â âuh, yeah, i kind of do.â âlook, woo, do you really believe that seonghwa hyung is in love with y/n? donât you think thatâs a little⊠i donât know, impossible?â âanything is possible, san!â âyes, but not that.â âwhy? why does everyone think iâm crazy for this?â âwooyoungâs right, san.â they turned and saw hongjoong standing a few feet away, arms crossed over his chest, expression unreadable. âhow long have you been standing there?âÂ
hongjoong shrugged. âlong enough.â âwait, what? what do you mean iâm right?â âyouâre right about seonghwa.â wooyoung let out a small whoop of triumph, while san looked at hongjoong in utter disbelief. âwhat in tartarus? how do you know that?â âbecause he told me.â âwhen?â wooyoung asked, practically beaming. âcenturies ago.â âwait, so seonghwa hyungâs liked her for that long?!â hongjoong grimaced. âah, itâs actually the opposite of that.â âhe loves her?!â san blurted, and wooyoung slapped a hand over his mouth. âdonât be so loud! seonghwa hyungâs nearby, he might hear you!â he hissed.Â
âwhen did you notice?â wooyoung asked, slowly taking his hand off sanâs mouth, who glared at him in return. âi thought it was pretty obvious, and honestly, iâm quite surprised no one picked up on it sooner.â âso, when did he tell you?â âi donât remember exactly, but iâm pretty sure it was when y/n was in the garden with you guys and seonghwa and i went somewhere to talk in secret. he was extremely anxious.âÂ
(six centuries ago)
hongjoong let out a cry of protest as seonghwa led him into a more secluded part of the garden, anxiety rolling off the latter in waves. the late afternoon sun cast golden beams of light on the soft patches of green grass. the air was crisp and cool, and the weather had never been more perfect. âwhatâs wrong?â seonghwa hesitated, rocking back and forth on his heels. âi-i love someone.â hongjoongâs eyes widened. âwhat?â âi know itâs sudden of me to say something so bold, but i-i know that i love her.â âwho is she? do we know her?â seonghwa chuckled, golden eyes shining with an emotion that hongjoong had never seen him express before. âyes, you know her, very well, in fact.â hongjoong furrowed his brows in confusion, thinking about which female in the entirety of athens seonghwa had his heart set on, and suddenly, it clicked. the gentle and soft gazes heâd send your way, the way heâd look at you as if you were the only star in the sky, and the way he handed you a basket of flowers or even a piece of fruit were all telltale signs that seonghwa was irrevocably smitten, and yet hongjoong hadnât realized it until now. âi- when did you realize that you loved her?â seonghwa rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly, color staining his cheeks. âdo you remember that city official that started to insult y/n the day we went to the market?â hongjoong grimaced at the memory. âof course, how could i forget? i was tempted to throw him into the depths of tarturus.â âshe defended herself before we could, despite having tears in her eyes. she was so strong, and i admired her for that. i knew that she was not a damsel in distress, and that she was perfectly capable of taking care of herself, but iâve always felt i need to protect her, to shield her from harm. isnât that so selfish of me?â seonghwa asked, laughing bitterly. âitâs not selfish, it just shows how much you love her.â âi suppose. hongjoong, promise me that this will stay between us?â âof course.â hongjoong said, swallowing against the bile in his throat. the smile that seonghwa sent his way afterwards, bright and hopeful, made his stomach churn with guilt.Â
âthat day was the worst, i was going to kill him if someone didnât stop me.â san hissed, glaring at hongjoong, who rolled his eyes. âiâm sorry i foiled your plans of vengeance, but seonghwa wouldâve killed me if anything happened to any of you.â âseonghwa hyung really is in love with y/n.â wooyoung mumbled, looking dazed, as if he had been in a trance. âyes, he is. now, you two have to promise me that this stays between us. seonghwa cannot know that i told you.âÂ
san pursed his lips tightly. âi hate keeping secrets from him.â âi know, but if finds out that i told you this, he will never forgive me, and i canât live with myself knowing that i hurt seonghwa.â san looked as if heâd rather jump into the river of souls than agree to it, but just sighed and gave hongjoong a small nod. âfine, but donât make me regret this.âÂ
hongjoong gave the younger a grateful smile.â thank you, san.â âiâll also keep this from seonghwa hyung, but itâs not going to be easy.â âi know, just try your hardest not to tell him.â wooyoung also looked as if he were going to object, but managed a miniscule nod. âi just hope that no one gets hurt in the end.â hongjoong felt dread pool in his stomach at the thought of seonghwa looking at him with absolute hatred and sadness in his eyes, and forced what he hoped was a convincing smile on his face. âtime will tell.âÂ
after the confrontation with san and wooyoung, hongjoong headed to another secluded part of the garden, feeling dazed. he settled onto a soft patch of grass, stretching his legs and basking in the late afternoon sun. though the weather usually lifted hongjoongâs spirits, today, it did nothing to distract him from the immense guilt he felt. he knew it wasnât his right to tell seonghwaâs secret, but he had just suddenly gotten the urge to, after overhearing wooyoung and sanâs conversation. hongjoong sighed, reaching up and rubbing at his temples. he would be doomed if seonghwa ever came to know that his secret had been disclosed, especially since heâd promised all those centuries ago not to tell anyone.Â
âjoong?â a soft voice said, and hongjoong looked up to see you standing over him, an amused smile on your face. ây/n?â âtaking a nap?â you asked, settling down beside him, your sky blue robes bright against the green grass. hongjoong shook his head. âno, just thinking.â âabout what? you donât have to tell me, of course, iâm just curious.â âwell, honestly, it wasnât anything important.â you didnât look too convinced, but didnât press further, much to hongjoongâs relief. âcan i talk to you about something?â âof course, anything.â hongjoong said, immediately sitting up and moving closer to you, wrapping an arm around your shoulders. âwhatâs troubling you?â you sighed, leaning your head on his shoulder. âitâs seonghwa.â âwhat about him? is he being an asshole?â you laughed softly. âno, of course not. hwaâs one of the sweetest, gentlest, most patient, loving, and selfless people i know. he doesnât have a mean bone in his body.â â
then, whatâs wrong?â âi- is he in pain?â âwhat do you mean?â âis he pining for a lost love?â hongjoong felt his stomach coil with nerves. âwhy do you ask?â âiâve noticed the way he looks at me, almost as if i remind him of someone who hurt him.â no, itâs because seonghwaâs in love with you, but heâs not saying anything because he knows you will not return his feelings, hongjoong thought sadly. âis he hurting because of me? did i do something?â you sounded so sad, so lost, and hongjoongâs heart ached. âno, of course not. seonghwaâs always been one to wander off into his own thoughts and keep his feelings to himself. he doesnât want us worrying about him. heâs probably just daydreaming or exhausted.â âi suppose.â you murmured, snuggling deeper into hongjoongâs side. hongjoong forced what he hoped was a convincing smile on his face and held you tighter.Â
mingi loosed a breath as he let an arrow fly, allowing a small smile when it struck the center of the target. the air was warm but not too humid, and he loved when the sun would shine through the trees, bathing the forest in golden light. it was late afternoon, and he had finally gotten out of bed after a while to train. maddox had had business in town, so that left him alone for the day.Â
he sighed and propped his bow against a tree, practically collapsing onto the soft grass. itâd been a long few days, of which were mainly spent crying until his throat and eyes hurt, or until maddox threatened to throw him into the river if he wouldnât stop sulking. ever since that day, mingi had been trying his best to heal from the heartbreak he experienced. it was a bit pathetic that he was so devastated over a girl that he barely knew, but in some ways, he felt drawn to you. he felt as if there was something that intrigued him about you, but couldnât quite name the cause. he supposed that as long as you were happy and that you were being treated well, there was nothing he could do. after all, he was a hero, destined to save athens or whatever fairy-tale shit maddox ranted about constantly, and if you were together, you would be in constant danger. mingi knew he couldnât live with himself if anyone he loved got hurt or killed, and the image of you being stabbed or becoming lifeless in his arms sent a shudder through his body. mingi closed his eyes and let the tears fall, wondering if he would ever get his so-called âhappy ending.âÂ
yunho laid next to wooyoung on the worn blanket seonghwa had found lying around the cottage, and looked up at the night sky, stars glittering like precious jewels. the air was crisp and cool, and he allowed a small smile to tug at his lips. yunho turned his head slightly to see you and san sitting on a patch of soft grass, your head resting on his shoulder. âpenny for your thoughts?â wooyoung said, snapping yunho back to reality. he felt his face flush scarlet at the knowing smirk on wooyoungâs face, and swatted at him with his hand, causing the younger to laugh. âi do not feel that way about y/n, if thatâs what youâre thinking.â wooyoung rolled his eyes. âi know you donât, i was just teasing you.â a comfortable silence settled between them, and yunho sighed, turning his attention back to the stars, mind wandering once again. dinner had been normal, with the occasional light chatter and wooyoung and san bickering over trivial matters, but the aftermath had been quite strange. san had given wooyoung a look that clearly said âdonât you dare speak another word or i will throw you into the riverâ , and the latter had whined in protest, but didnât say anything else after. yunho had looked at them with utter confusion, wondering what in zeusâ name theyâd been arguing about, but didnât bother to ask. he just hoped that whatever secret they were keeping wouldnât cause any conflict.Â
you sighed, snuggling deeper into sanâs side for warmth, and said male wrapped an arm around your shoulders. âtired?â he asked. you nodded, resting your head on his shoulder. âdid seonghwa nag you too much today?â he asked, voice light and teasing. you rolled your eyes playfully. âno, he didnât. today was just a long one, thatâs all.â san hummed in agreement, squeezing your shoulder gently, as if in comfort. you shifted so that you were now lying on his lap, and he chuckled softly, playing with the loose strands of your hair. âare you really going to use my lap as a pillow?â âyes, is there a problem?â san shook his head. âof course not, you know i was just teasing.â âsan?â âhmm?â âthank you.â âfor what, love?â âno reason, iâm just glad youâre in my life.â âwhen did you get so cheesy? youâve really been spending way too much time with seonghwa hyung.â you flelt your face flush scarlet. âs-shut up, iâm trying to be sentimental and youâre ruining the moment.â san laughed, patting your head gently. âok, ok, fine.â you soon fell asleep to san humming softly.Â
san smiled as you slept, absentmindedly playing with the soft strands of your hair, humming a song heâd heard jongho sing once, and leaned back against the rough bark of the eucalyptus tree that took up one side of the garden, letting his mind wander. dinner had been interesting, and he grimaced as he remembered how wooyoung had nearly let seonghwaâs secret come to light. wooyoung needs to be more cautious, otherwise, seonghwa hyung might never forgive hongjoong hyung for telling us his secret.Â
it was also where he noticed firsthand that seonghwa was irrevocably and utterly in love with y/n, despite knowing that his feelings would never be returned. san didnât know how he hadnât noticed before. it was evident in the way seonghwa would look at you, as if you were the only star in the sky, and even a small gesture as handing you a piece of bread from across the table. his fingers always seemed to brush against yours in such an intimate way that san felt himself blush and look away.Â
san winced as he recalled the conversation with hongjoong and wooyoung earlier that evening, and his heart ached for seonghwa, whose love was unrequited, and for hongjoong, who had succumbed to the pressure of keeping such a secret that he told him and wooyoung. he felt as if they didnât deserve to know, for the secret felt so personal to seonghwa, and san knew that he would be devastated if he knew that hongjoong had told them. holding back tears, san closed his eyes and let sleep take over.Â
mingi woke to maddox gently shaking him, whispering fervently. he sat up immediately, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. âwhat is it? did something happen?â even in the darkness of the cottage, he could make out the pale and ashen color of maddoxâs face, and his stomach coiled with fear. his mentor gulped nervously before replying, his voice barely audible. âhades.â âwhat?â mingi felt blood rushing to his ears, and he felt himself get out of bed, hastily throwing the thin blankets off of him, reaching for his sword, which had been thrown on a pile of old clothes earlier that night. mingi could feel the nervous tension in the air as he loosed a breath and headed out into the cool night, feeling a shiver course through him. maddox was trailing slowly behind him, footsteps quiet and hesitant.Â
mingi knew it was extremely foolish to confront hades not properly armed, but at least maddox was with him. now, his mentor wasnât the strongest or the best fighter, but he could at least try and figure out a way for mingi to escape unscathed, or at least mingi hoped he could.Â
the air got thicker with tension as mingi ventured deeper into the forest, ignoring the small voice in the back of his mind, screaming at him to run away. mingi knew that hades was close by, as the scent of death and smoke filled his nostrils as he neared a more secluded part of the forest, which, ironically, happened to be near a field of blooming hyacinths. the sight that beheld him made his heart drop down into his stomach and his blood run cold.Â
you were laying at hadesâ feet, pale blue robes streaked with dirt, curled into yourself, as if bracing for an attack that would hopefully never come. mingi ducked behind a tree, hoping it would somehow obscure him from view. âyouâre pathetic.â hades hissed, dark eyes flashing with pure disgust. you groaned, neck straining to look up at the god of the dead, expression full of fury and pure hatred. âi thought i made it clear that my relations with you were over.â you seethed, wiping blood from the corner of your mouth. hades laughed, cold and heartless. âyou very aware of my conditions when you signed your soul over to me, and one of them was that you will never be free until you fufill my end of our deal. you seemed so willing all those centuries ago, i wonder what changed? is it because you fell in love?â hades sneered, tone dripping with mock cheerfulness.Â
you said nothing, clenching your jaw in anger and curling your hand into a fist. hades laughed, the sound hollow and void of emotion. âhow touching, you fell in love with the very person you were supposed to lead to his own demise. i assume you want me to spare him?â
you glared at the god of the dead, refusing to show any signs of fear, and mingiâs heart ached at the sight. âno, i very well know that you will kill him anyway, for seeing heroes perish brings you great pleasure.â hades clicked his tongue in mock disappointment. âiâm appalled that such a thought would ever cross your mind.â âyouâll spare him, then? if i request it?â hades scoffed. âyouâd be foolish to think that i would ever take a request from such a weak and pathetic woman such as yourself.âÂ
mingi felt a hand grip his shoulder tightly, and didnât try to resist. âkid, if you go out ther now, youâll die. hades may be a prick, but heâs powerful, and can most likely turn you into ashes before you can even take a single step.â maddox murmured, voice barely audible, but mingi nodded, a sign that heâd heeded his warning, and the grip on his shoulder loosened.Â
seonghwa felt his heart shatter at the sight of you crumpled on the ground, pale blue robes dirty and blood-stained, helpless and injured. it took every ounce of self-control for him not to run over to you and wrap you into his arms and hold you. he knew that you would never forgive yourself if something happened to him or the others, and that you would continue to blame yourself for their deaths, no matter what. seonghwa bit back tears as he watched hades sneer and curse at you, hands curling into his white robes, the soft fabric bunching in his grip.Â
the others were fast asleep at the cottage, and that fact alone made seonghwaâs heart settle, just a bit. seonghwa was glad that they werenât witnessing the horrific scene before him, for he knew that the sight would be too much to bear.Â
out of the corner of his eye, he noticed mingi, armed with nothing but a sword, clutching it in his hand tightly, and a shorter man with shoulder length hair was with him, body stiff with tension. it was maddox, who he had seen occasionally at council meetings, quiet but not afraid to speak his mind when needed.Â
seonghwa felt his blood run cold when mingi finally stepped out of the shadows, with maddox trying and failing to prevent him from being reckless, and held his sword out in front of him, the silver blade glinting in the dark.Â
hadesâ dark eyes shifted towards the newcomer, and the smirk that tugged at the corner of his lips was enough to make seonghwa shudder with fear. âlook who decided to join us. if it isnât the hero himself.â âlet her go.â mingi hissed, body tight with tension. hades chuckled darkly. âand why would i do that? what could a mere human like you offer me, a god?â âitâs me you want dead, isnât it?â seonghwaâs heart dropped into his stomach at the naked fear on your face, and clutched the fabric of his robe tighter. donât be so reckless, seonghwa wanted to scream, but he knew that if he were in mingiâs position, he wouldâve done the same, so he forced himself to stay quiet. âi would take pleasure in seeing your untimely demise, such is true, but what would you give me in return?â
seonghwa racked his brain for a list of possible things mingi could offer to the god, and cursed under his breath when he realized that the only thing the latter could give hades was his soul. âiâll trade you my soul, but only if you agree to break the contract you have with her.âÂ
hadesâ dark eyes flashed dangerously. âyou do know what selling your soul to me entails?â mingi nodded. in doing so, i enter a state of servitude, until you decide to give me freedom.âÂ
your eyes widened in horror, and seonghwa watched, heart aching, as you struggled to your feet, unable to stop the tears from streaming down your face. âmingi, do not sacrifice your freedom or your soul for me. i donât deserve to be saved.â âdonât say such things! youâre brave and selfless and-â âi am not! iâve been working with hades all this time, trying to find out your weakness so that he may kill you! i donât deserve to be saved or sought after by someone who is righteous and honest and brave. i-â you broke off at the sight of the confused, angry, and devastated expression on mingiâs face. nearby, hades chuckled darkly.Â
âiâll leave you two lovebirds alone, it seems you two have many things to discuss.â hades drawled, tone dripping with mock sympathy. with a flick of his hand and a long, tired sigh, the god of the dead disappeared in a cloud of black smoke. mingi turned his head away, closing his eyes, as if the sight of you was too much for him to bear.Â
âwhy?â mingi asked in a soft voice, confused and hurt. âi did not want you to find out this way, especially with hades in our presence. i never meant to hurt you, i-âÂ
âyou lied to me?â âyes, but i-â âbut you what? thought it would be amusing to lead me on? to rip my heart out?â you visibly flinched at the uncharacteristic coldness in mingiâs voice, and seonghwa gulped nervously.Â
âplease, i can explain-â mingi shook his head, grip tightening on the hilt of his sword. âi never want to see you again, and donât you ever think for one second that iâm going to come to rescue you from whatever danger you might face. you disgust me.â he snapped, voice as cold and hard as steel. you reached out helplessly as mingi turned on his heels and walked away, not bothering to look back, and thatâs when seonghwa couldnât bear to watch any longer.Â
seonghwa ran out from his hiding place and pulled you into his arms, rubbing comforting circles on his back and whispering soothing words in your ear. âh-hwa. h-he hates me.â you sobbed, curling your fingers in the fabric of his robes. seonghwa could only hold you tight as you cried into his chest, feeling his heart ache even more.Â
you returned to the cottage with seonghwa carrying you in his arms, your heart heavy and face tear-stained. your robes were filthy and torn, but seonghwa didnât seem to mind as he had lifted you into his arms almost immediately, insisting on carrying you home. you felt tears prick your eyes at the sight of hongjoong, san, jongho, wooyoung, yeosang, and yunho standing nervously at the front of the cottage.Â
san practically tripped over his own feet trying to get to you, stroking your hair back softly as his violet eyes scanned your body, looking for any injuries. âwe were all so worried when we woke and realized you and seonghwa hyung were gone. we thought you two had been taken, or killed, or-â âsan, iâm so sorry. iâm sorry for worrying everyone. i seem to always cause trouble whenever iâm with you, and i always feel as if iâm a burden.â
âyou could never be a burden to us, darling, we just hate seeing you get hurt.â yeosang strode right up to seonghwa, caramel eyes bright with anger. âyou let her be injured? you watched as she got hurt and verbally harassed by hades? what kind of friend are you?â he asked, a harsh laugh escaping his mouth. before seonghwa could respond, san stepped forward, violet eyes bright with warning, gripping the comedy museâs shoulder tightly. âthatâs enough, yeosang.â
yeosang pursed his lips tightly, shook sanâs hand off him, and stormed into the cottage. âi-iâm so sorry y/n, i shouldâve done something-â you shook your head, reaching up and cupping seonghwaâs chin gently so heâd look at you. ânone of this is your fault, hwa, and give yeosang time to clear his head, iâm sure heâs just angry because iâm hurt and he needs someone to blame.â âi just hope you two donât resent me.â you scoffed, shifting so that you were a little more comfortable in seonghwaâs arms. âwe will not.âÂ
seonghwa smiled gently down at you as he carried you into the cottage, and you let yourself fall into a deep sleep, the ache in your heart subsiding, just a bit.Â
mingi buried his face into his pillow, soft sobs wracking his body. maddox sat slumped in a chair nearby, his expression grim. âiâm sorry your first love had to end so tragically, kid.â mingi didnât reply, only cried harder, feeling as if his heart was going to spill out of his chest.Â
-end-

⏠summary: you felt your heart ache at the utter anger and confusion on mingiâs face. âyou lied to me?â âyes, but i-â âbut you what? thought it would be amusing to lead me on? to rip my heart out?â you flinched at the uncharacteristic coldness in mingiâs voice. âplease, i can explain-â mingi shook his head, grip tightening on the hilt of his sword. âi never want to see you again, and donât you ever think for one second that iâm going to come to rescue you from whatever danger you might face. you disgust me.â he snapped, voice as hard as steel. you could only watch, helplessly, as the man you loved walked away, taking your heart with him. seonghwa, whoâd been watching from the safety of a tree, came running over to you and pulled you into his arms, holding you tight as you sobbed.Â
âwhy, why am i afraid?â - ateez (mist)Â
⏠note: hello friends!! this is the sequel to my previous au, âi wonât say iâm in loveâ! thank you all for supporting me and my mediocre writing, and i hope you all enjoy reading âmist!â as always, feedback is always appreciated, and i hope you all are staying safe and healthy!Â
you hummed quietly to yourself as you sat on the edge of the low wall that surrounded the garden, letting your feet dangle in the air, mindlessly swinging them back and forth. the night air was cool and crisp, and the moon was glowing serenely against the midnight blue sky, bathing the garden in a soft, white light. it was late, and despite the hectic evening youâd had, you couldnât bring yourself to sleep.Â
seonghwa, san, and the others had reluctantly disappeared into their small cottage to retire for the night, after you had assured them that you were just going to sit around in the garden for a few minutes before joining them. your mind was a whirlwind of thoughts. after all, you had just confessed your deepest and darkest secret to the people you considered family, and they hadnât turned you away like you thought they would. however, you werenât sure how you were going to gather up the courage to tell mingi.Â
you scoffed, immediately erasing the idea from your mind. donât be ridiculous, itâs not like he would care anyways. besides, youâre not supposed to fall for him, youâre supposed to break his heart, so it doesnât matter what he thinks of you. you ignored the bile rising in your throat. at first, you had thought that the task would be easy, as you were sure you werenât ever going to fall for someone again, especially not after the way your past romance had ended tragically.Â
you clenched the soft fabric of your blue chiton in your hands, feeling angry tears prick at the corner of your eyes. you hated feeling so conflicted, especially over someone who had practically ripped your heart out. after all, men had done nothing but disappoint you, and your former lover had proved that to be true.Â
seonghwa couldnât sleep. he was too worried about you, especially now that he knew that hades had a motive to hurt you. his heart had ached as you broke down and told everyone your secret. he sighed, running a hand through his messy hair and looked around him. even in the darkness of the small room, he could just make out the vibrant blue of hongjoongâs hair, yeosangâs light blonde hair, wooyoung and san curled up against one another, and jongho and yunho sprawled out on the bed across from him. seonghwa allowed himself a small, fond smile. he was grateful that he was able to spend time with his family every day, and that they were always safe and sound at the end of the day.Â
seonghwa reluctantly slid out of his warm bed, shrugged his worn sandals on, slipped out the door and into the cool night. he wandered mindlessly around the garden, admiring how the blue and pink flowers that grew in its vicinity stood out against the dark of the night. the air was cool and soothing against his skin as he wandered farther, mind swimming with thoughts.Â
suddenly, seonghwa heard faint sobs, and felt his blood run cold. he wandered into a more secluded part of the garden, and felt his heart drop into his stomach. you were sitting at the edge of the low wall that surrounded the perimeter of the garden, hands gripping the soft fabric of your chiton so hard that your knuckles were turning white, body was shaking with soft sobs. seonghwa immediately ran over to you, throwing his arms around you and pulling you into a hug. âh-hwa. i-iâm s-sorry, did i wake you?â his heart ached at how dejected you sounded.Â
seonghwa shook his head, hugging you tighter and rubbing comforting circles on your back. âi couldnât sleep.â âiâm sorry for worrying you, i just needed to clear my head.â ây/n,stop apologizing. you did nothing wrong, and the fact that you mustered up the courage to tell us your secret mustâve been hard for you to keep.â you sniffled and buried your face in the crook of his neck, letting out a shaky breath. âit was, but i didnât want to keep lying to everyone. none of you deserve to be lied to, not after all you all have done for me.âÂ
âdarling, please, none of what you did is your fault. itâs that godsdamn jerk hades. and never feel afraid to come to any of us for comfort, we are always here for you, ok? and donât keep secrets from us again.â seonghwa felt you nod weakly, and allowed himself a small smile. âgood. now, letâs get back inside before you freeze to death.â you chuckled, despite yourself. âhwa, itâs not even cold.â âdonât you dare argue with me, young lady.â seonghwa scolded lightheartedly. you rolled your eyes, glad he couldnât see it as he scooped you up into his arms, carrying you bridal style. âyes, father.â that earned you a playful glare. âi am not that old, you know!â you laughed, reaching up and ruffling seonghwaâs hair affectionately. âwhatever you say, old man.âÂ
you woke up the next morning to find yunho practically wrapped around you, his soft black hair tickling your cheek, and you smiled fondly, remembering all the nights you spent as kids curled up next to the muses you had come to call family, feeling safe and secure. the early morning sun cast beams of light across the floor of the small cottage, bathing it in gold.Â
you slowly and carefully extricated yourself from yunhoâs grip and headed outside to see if seonghwa needed help with tending to the garden. said male would wake up before everyone to tend to every plant and flower that occupied it, and you felt that helping seonghwa was the least you could to do to thank him for comforting you last night.Â
sure enough, seonghwa was bent over a bed of roses, golden eyes searching for any deformities. âhwa!â you called, and the formerâs expression lit up, a fond smile tugging at his lips, waving you over. âhow are the roses doing?â you asked, admiring how the pink rose petals stood out against the dark soil. âtheyâre alright, despite this weather.â you hummed thoughtfully, reaching out and lightly touching the rose petals, velvet soft against your skin. âthank you.â âfor what?â seonghwa asked, moving on to another cluster of flowers, eyebrows furrowing in concentration. âfor last night. for comforting me.â the love museâs expression went soft, golden eyes glimmering with unshed tears. âno need to thank me, darling. youâve been through so much, and you deserve to have comfort. besides, weâre practically family, and weâre all supposed to there for each other, no matter what.âÂ
you smiled, reaching out and taking seonghwaâs hand in yours, squeezing gently. âdo you need help with the flowers?â the former shook his head, black hair falling across his forehead. âwell, is there anything i can do?â seonghwa smiled. âyou can help me by waking the others up.â you groaned, knowing how difficult that was. âthatâs going to take centuries, hwa!â âwell, the flowers arenât going to tend to themselves.â âarenât you the muse of love poetry?â âyeah, and what about it? i am perfectly capable of taking care of nature.â you laughed, reaching out and ruffling seonghwaâs hair affectionately. âof course you are. now, if youâll excuse me, i need to go wake up our little band of gremlins.â seonghwa chuckled softly as you turned and skipped towards the cottage, your heart seemingly lighter than before.Â
it had taken nearly forty five minutes to wake everyone up, save hongjoong, who had actually gotten up as soon as you had gently shaken his shoulder. the others had been a bit more difficult, especially jongho and yeosang, who were notorious for sleeping in late.Â
another twenty minutes later, breakfast was served, and it had been fruit, a few vegetables, bread, and cheese that seonghwa had managed to snag from the local market earlier that morning. then, yunho suggested that they lay out underneath the huge tree that took up a portion of the garden, of which everyone had agreed to, to your surprise.Â
âwhen are you going to be done sulking?â ânot sulking.â mingi mumbled, leaning against the tree heâd been sitting under for the past few hours, the bark rough against his back. maddox scoffed. âyeah, and iâm a descendant of zeus. youâre not fooling anyone, kid.â mingi sighed. âi just-â âmissing her already?â he felt his face burn. âs-shut up.â âthereâs no need to be embarrassed, you know. i know i tease, but i genuinely want to see you happy, you deserve it.âÂ
âwhat if she doesnât feel the same?â mingi mumbled, blush deepening. he felt silly, pining after a girl he barely knew, but you were unlike anyone he had met. he heard maddox scoff. âplease, that girl cannot fool anyone, even with her tough and stubborn facade.â âeven if she liked me, would we even work?â maddoxâs expression softened just a fraction, and he moved forward, placing a gentle hand on mingiâs shoulder, as if in comfort. âthatâs something youâll have to figure out yourself, kid.â mingi huffed. âthatâs what iâve been trying to do.â âgive it time, itâll come to you eventually.âÂ
mingiâs mind was still heavy with conflict as he walked along a long dirt path that would lead him to the cottage he resided in. even though he had been offered nicer accommodation in the city, mingi preferred to live in a more secluded area and one that was closer to nature. the late evening air was crisp and clean as he ventured further down the path, mind constantly wandering. his conversation with maddox earlier that day had done little to soothe his anxiety. mingi was so lost in thought that he bumped into someone. âiâm so sorry i-â mingi felt his mouth suddenly go dry, as if heâd swallowed sandpaper.Â
âwonder boy?â you asked, leaning back against a tree, keeping your expression as nonchalant as possible. even in the darkness, you could still make out the blush that was forming on mingiâs face. in the soft glow of the moon, mingi looked as gorgeous as ever, and you ignored the slight ache in your heart at the sight of him. âh-hi.â he stammered.. âwhat brings you out here at this time of night?â âjust passing through.â â itâs been a while since weâve seen each other, hasnât it?âÂ
âiâve been busy.â mingi mumbled, running a hand through his already messy hair. you frowned at the slight annoyance in his tone, but didnât think anything of it. âfarewell, mingi.â you muttered, pushing off the tree with your elbow and walking away, not bothering to look back.Â
âeverything ok?â yunho asked, light green eyes filled with worry. you sighed, leaning your head on the tall maleâs shoulder, shaking your head slightly. immediately, an arm wrapped around your shoulders, squeezing gently. âwhat happened?â âitâs pathetic.â âjust tell me.â âfine. on my way here, i bumped into mingi, quite literally, at that.â âand?â what happened that has you so sad?â âdo we need to beat someone up?â an amused smile tugged at the corner of your lips, and you laughed. âwell, let me finish telling you and then iâll let you and the others decide.âÂ
âwhat did he do?â âwell, he seemed different.â âdifferent how?â âi donât know, itâs just the way he talked to me. he sounded kind of annoyed?â you felt yunho tense a little, the grip on your shoulders a little firmer, and you reached down and laced your fingers with his, squeezing gently. âiâm sure he was just having a bad day. donât kill him, please. i canât have you or the others being thrown into prison for beating someone up.â yunho huffed. âfine, but if he hurts you, iâll get san to break his legs.â you laughed, snuggling deeper into the tall maleâs side. âiâll keep that in mind, then.âÂ
you tried not to laugh at the way seonghwa and jonghoâs jaws clenched as you told them about what happened between you and mingi earlier that night. âiâll kill him.â âno killing anyone, please. itâs not that big of a deal, he was probably having a bad day, everyone does.â âok, but he didnât have to take it out on you.â âyes, but-â ânext time you see mingi, tell him that i will not hesitate to break his legs if he hurts you again.â âhe wonât, i promise. like i said, he was probably having a bad day.â san huffed. âlet him know.â âok, ok, i will.âÂ
âenough about my love life.â âso youâre admitting you have one?â yunho asked, light green eyes twinkling with mirth. âs-shut up, i do not.â wooyoung snorted, plopping down next to san, who rolled his eyes in amusement as the former laid his head on his shoulder. âyou totally do, darling.â ânot you too, hwa.â âsorry, but i have to agree with wooyoung.â you groaned, throwing yourself down onto the grass, laying your head in hongjoongâs lap, who just chuckled and ran a hand through your hair. âtough day?â âs-shut up, iâve had enough bullying for one day.âÂ
(the next day)
âi messed up.â mingi mumbled, plopping down on the soft grass next to maddox, who only sighed in response. âwhat did you do this time?â âi mightâve lashed out.â âloversâ quarrel?â âwould you quit that? no, it wasnât that, i just- i donât know, i guess i was so conflicted about my feelings that i took my anger out on her. what do i do?â âapologize.â âi-itâs not that easy, you know.â though mingi wasnât looking in his direction, he could tell that his mentor was rolling in his eyes in exasperation. âit is, actually, you just walk up to her, say youâre sorry, and then you two live happily ever after for the rest of your days.âÂ
mingi frowned. âiâm serious.â âi am too. look, kid, if youâre not going to apologize, then iâll do it for you.â âplease donât.â âi will if you would stop being a coward.â âi-iâm not a coward, she just makes me nervous, thatâs all.â âi know itâs difficult, but if you donât tell her how you feel soon, she might move on and find someone else.â ây-yeah, like who?â maddox shrugged. âi donât know, maybe one of those muses she always hangs around.â âwhat? what muses?â âthe muses? you seriously donât know them?â âi-i do, i just have never seen them.â âwell, sheâs always around them, and theyâre all pretty handsome, so i suggest you hurry up and profess your love or whatever before one of them steal her away.âÂ
âthey could probably treat her better than me anyways.â he mumbled, which earned him an elbow to the ribs. âwhat was that for?â âwould you quit being so pitiful? you never know until you try, and besides, i think she might feel the same.â âdoubt it, but fine, iâll try.â maddox grinned, reaching out and patting his shoulder gently. âthatâs the spirit, kid.âÂ
the late afternoon sun bathed the forest in light as mingi leaned against a tree, ignoring how the rough bark dug into his back. his heart leaped in his chest as he heard soft footsteps approaching, and felt his breath catch in his throat at the sight of you. you were a vision in light pink robes that complimented your skin, dark hair framing your face perfectly. âhi wonderboy.â you called out, and mingi felt his face flush at the mere sound of your voice.Â
âh-hi.â âwhy did you want to see me?â âi wanted to apologize for how i acted the other day. i wasnât feeling the greatest, and i took my annoyance out on you.â âitâs fine, donât worry about it. although, my friends were quite worried and threatened to beat you up.â mingi winced. you laughed softly. âdonât worry. my friends are harmless even though they act like they arenât sometimes.â âso, iâm forgiven, then?â âmingi, you were forgiven the moment you sent a scroll asking to talk to me.â you shrugged. âbesides, i wasnât offended, i just figured you were having a bad day, like you said.âÂ
mingi allowed himself a smile, and felt his pulse race when you returned it.Â
âso, howâd it go with mingi?â wooyoung asked, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively. seonghwa rolled his eyes and smacked the former lightly on the shoulder. âwill you quit that?â the blond male only huffed in protest, but the curious glint never left his eyes. âwhatâs there to tell? he apologized, and that was it.â âseriously? no passionate kiss in the forest? no getting pressed up against a tree and making out? nothing? not even a kiss on the cheek? you two are so lame.â wooyoung sighed, dramatically falling into yeosangâs lap, who rolled his eyes in response.Â
âjung wooyoung, if you donât shut up right now, i will not hesitate to-â âyeah, yeah, i know, throw me into the depths of the underworld.â âexactly.â âitâs what you deserve, honestly.â yeosang mumbled, but made no move to shove the aforementioned muse off his lap. âyeosang! i thought we were friends.â âif you call barely tolerating you on a daily basis, then yes.âÂ
you laughed in amusement at their incessant bickering. âyeosang, stop being so harsh on wooyoung. heâs sensitive, you know.â âi am not!â the dance muse protested. hongjoong scoffed, not looking up from the elaborate flower crown he was making, rolling his eyes. âsays the guy who wouldnât stop sulking after san ignored him for a whole day because he accidentally spilled wine on his brand new toga.â âit was a whole week, and it hurt!âÂ
san sighed. âwhy am i friends with this idiot?â âbecause you love me.â âbelieve what you want, wooyoung.â jongho rolled his eyes. âhongjoong hyung!â said muse looked up from his now finished flower crown, carefully placing it on his head, hazel eyes widening in suprise. âyes, jongho?â âc-could you help me with this verse for a hymn? iâve been stuck on it for days.âÂ
hongjoongâs face broke out into a wide smile, eyes turning into crescents, then flung himself at seonghwa, who stumbled a bit from the sudden attack, but recovered and wrapped his arms around the former, holding him tight. âwhatâs wrong, joong?â he asked, voice as gentle as ever, but the amused smile tugging at his lips was obvious. âj-jongho finally asked me to h-help him.â hongjoong wailed, burying his face into seonghwaâs chest, soft sobs wracking his body. seonghwa bit back a laugh as he patted hongjoongâs head gently.Â
âare those tears of joy? or?â you laughed, reaching out and patting jonghoâs shoulder gently. âdefinitely tears of joy. heâs been waiting for this moment for a millennia.â âfinally, iâve been spared!â yeosang cried out happily. jongho huffed. âi hate you.â yeosang only beamed. âlove you too!â you rolled your eyes at their bickering. âhave fun writing with hongjoong, heâs really been waiting for this day for ages.â jongho sighed. âi know. he wouldnât stop whining to seonghwa hyung about it.â âyeah, i know, heâs also complained to me too.â âjongho! hurry up!â hongjoong called.Â
you laughed at the embarrassment on jonghoâs face as he mumbled his goodbyes and ran over to hongjoong, both of them disappearing behind an alcove of trees seconds later. âhe must be really happy, huh?â âyeah, he is.âÂ
âhow are things with mingi?â seonghwa inquired once everyone was distracted with the field of flowers a few feet away, marveling at the colorful petals. âhonestly? iâm not sure. weâre not lovers, after all. i donât even know if weâre friends. i guess weâre just acquaintances?â seonghwa rolled his eyes. âso, youâre telling me that after all the encounters youâve had with each other that your relationship with him is still unknown?âÂ
you smiled sheepishly. âi-i guess?â the silver haired male sighed in exasperation. âyou two are giving me a headache.â you laughed, leaning against seonghwaâs side, resting your head on his shoulder. the aforementioned muse immediately wrapped an arm around you. âbut you love me.â âyeah, yeah.â you smiled, snuggling deeper into seonghwaâs warmth and allowing a comfortable silence to settle between the two of you.Â
âmingi better not break her heart, or i will personally throw him into the depths of the underworld.â wooyoung muttered, breaking off a petal of the rose he had in his hand, letting it gently float in the wind before settling peacefully in the grass around him. âstop destroying nature, would you?â san scolded, snatching the rose out of wooyoungâs hand, earning a squawk of protest from the latter. âwhile i agree with you, woo, i donât think we should just charge at him like a minotaur gone truly mad.â âthen, what do you think we should do, oh wise one?âÂ
âwe should just talk to him, peacefully and without violence?â wooyoung scoffed. âthatâs a terrible idea. do you want her heart to be broken?â âof course not, itâs just- heâs stronger than all of us, thereâs no way any of us could take him in a real fight.â âyunhoâs right, weâre all as thin as wheat and canât lift anything remotely heavy.â âthatâs not true! weâre not that weak!â yeosang rolled his eyes, but didnât argue.Â
âwhy are we discussing murder?â a voice cut in, interrupting their conversation. yunho turned and saw seonghwa standing at the entrance of the garden, lean arms crossed over his chest, golden eyes twinkling with amusement. you were beside him, looking as equally amused as the former. âweâre not discussing murder, weâre just-â san slapped a hand over wooyoungâs mouth before he could continue, smiling nervously, ignoring how the latter squirmed, mumbling something incoherent. âwe were discussing just how much of a great person you are, hyung.âÂ
seonghwa bit back a laugh. âis that so?â âyes, of course! we would never think of murdering anyone! weâre too innocent and pure to commit such a wicked act!â unlike seonghwa, you laughed, the sound ringing in the air. âyou are all so dramatic.â â i honestly donât know why iâm still hanging around you all.â âthatâs because you have no other friends than us, yeosang.â wooyoung chirped, earning him a glare from the comedy muse.Â
âplease donât start fights, especially with mingi. i donât want to see any of you hurt.â wooyoung beamed, throwing himself onto seonghwa, hugging him tightly. âso you do love us, hyung!â the older rolled his eyes. âno, iâm just tired of you all being a pain in my ass all the time. so please save me the trouble and not try to kill anyone, ok?â san pouted. âyouâre so cruel, hyung!â âbelieve what you want, san.â âanyways, do you know when hongjoong and jongho will be back? they need to help out with supper later.â âwell, theyâre probably going to be done, at least, hopefully, before the sun sets.â âok, then iâll just go gather the vegetables and fruit.âÂ
âhwa, i might need some help, that is, if youâre willing to.â seonghwa smiled, expression soft and gentle. âof course, iâd be happy to.â as soon as they were out of earshot, wooyoung leaned forward, making sure to keep his voice as low as possible.Â
âis it just me, or is seonghwa hyung in love?â yeosang rolled his eyes, smacking the blond haired muse on the shoulder. âquit being delusional, seonghwa hyungâs always looked at her like that, we all do, you know. he cares about her just like he does the rest of us. besides, even if seonghwa hyung felt any sort of romantic way about y/n, she wouldnât return his feelings and heâd get heartbroken.â âyou never know! she could just be trying to use mingi as a distraction to get her mind off of him.â âyouâre by far the dumbest person i know, woo.â âi know what i saw, yeosang!â âthen prove it.â âwhat?â âif you can prove to me that seonghwa hyung really has feelings for y/n that are far from platonic, then i will not pick on you for a whole year.â wooyoungâs eyes brightened with determination. âyou will eat your words soon, sangie.â âcanât wait.âÂ
mingi softly hummed to himself as he walked through the forest, admiring how the sun shone through the leaves, bathing it in golden beams of light. his last meeting with you had gone well, better than he expected. âdaydreaming about going on picnic dates with your girlfriend?â âno, and sheâs not my girlfriend.â âsure, sure, keep lying to yourself.â âwhy are you even here? arenât you supposed to be, i donât know, doing important things?âÂ
maddox scoffed. âplease, as if the officials need me for anything.â his mentor made subsequent trips to the heart of the city, where the council presided, looking over and approving laws. a comfortable silence settled around them as they continued on through the forest.Â
suddenly, they heard laughter from a few feet away. and before mingi could say anything, maddox grabbed his wrist and pulled him in the direction of said laughter. âwhat are you doing?â âyouâre not curious where the laughter is coming from?â ânot really-â he was cut off a few seconds later when maddox suddenly stopped in his tracks. âwhatâs wrong?â
âkid, iâm sorry.â âabout what?â he ignored maddox as he tried to prevent him from going past. mingi froze when he saw what maddox had been trying to prevent him from seeing. it was you, looking as beautiful as ever in a dark blue toga, holding a basket full of vegetables and fruit. but you were not alone. a tall male with silver hair, dressed in a white toga, an impossibly soft smile on his face, stood next to you. then, said male took the basket from you, pulling you into his side and wrapping a slender arm around your waist.Â
mingi waited for you to push him away, which otherwise never occurred. then, what came next felt as if his heart was going to be ripped out of his chest. you smiled and leaned into the maleâs embrace, resting your head on his shoulder. he had had enough. mingi fought back tears as he ran away, ignoring maddox calling his name in the distance.Â
âcalm down!â maddox shouted, gripping mingiâs shoulders tightly. âwhy should i? after what i saw?â âyou know, thereâs such a thing as jumping to conclusions, which is exactly what youâre doing right now! and even if that guy was her lover, what does it matter to you? youâre not together anyway, right?â âiâm fully aware of that, but it still hurts just as much. i need to be alone.â mingi mumbled, trying to keep his voice as even as possible. as soon as the grip on his shoulder loosened, he ran off into the forest, vision blurring.Â
dinner consisted of fruit and vegetables, along with a few quail eggs that seonghwa had managed to pick up at the market earlier that day. the early evening air was cool and crisp, and there was a light breeze that caused the leaves to sway gently.Â
âwere you able to write the hymn?â jongho nodded as he popped a strawberry into his mouth, chewing thoughtfully. âit wasnât easy, but it is finished.â seonghwa smiled fondly, reaching out and ruffling the youngerâs hair affectionately. âiâm glad.â âdid you spend time with y/n today?â wooyoung blurted, light blue eyes glimmering with anticipation, âyes, yes i did. we gathered the fruits and vegetables for supper. why?â âno reason hyung, just curious.â he mumbled, taking a sip of wine. seonghwaâs eyebrows furrowed in confusion, but he didnât press further. yeosang pursed his lips tightly and looked away, trying to will himself to disappear. the former shrugged and merely got up and walked away to the center of the garden.Â
once he was out of earshot, yeosang elbowed wooyoung in the side, causing the latter to cry out in protest. âwhat was that for?â âcould you be any more obvious?â âwhat are you talking about? i was very subtle!â yeosang rolled his eyes. âyou were not.â âdo you really think seonghwa hyung doesnât have any sort of romantic feelings towards y/n?â âi really do.â âi will prove you wrong, just you wait!â âiâll be waiting for the day when you do.âÂ
you sat underneath a tree with seonghwa, curled up into his side, resting your head on his shoulder. the night sky was glittering with stars, bathing the garden in soft white light. âdo you think my relationship with mingi will become something more?â âi canât give you a sure answer, but i think if you allow a space for him in your heart, then maybe something will happen.âÂ
âwhen did you get soâŠâ âcheesy? romantic? well, i am the muse of love poetry, in case you forgot.â âright, you write cheesy poems for a living.â âmy poems are masterpieces, just so you know.â âi apologize, oh humble one. i did not mean to slander your poems, which a truly a gift to mankind.â âstop feeding my ego.â you laughed, snuggling deeper into seonghwaâs side. âok, ok, iâll stop.âÂ
âthis is going to sound very cliche and cheesy-â âdarling, please, i write romantic poems for a living. try me.â âi just- iâm grateful.â âfor what?â âfor not neglecting me. for taking care of me when i had no one else, and for giving me a home when my parents left me all alone, defenseless and starving.â you hadnât realized you were crying until seonghwa pulled you into a warm and tight embrace, rubbing comforting circles on your back. âlet it out, itâs okay.â âiâm sorry for breaking down like this, but-â âdonât apologize, darling. we are always here for you, and itâs perfectly okay to have an off day, weâve all been there.â âi just-â âyou donât need to explain yourself, you never do. just promise me you wonât hide your pain from us? we hate to see you so sad.âÂ
you nodded, leaning further into seonghwaâs embrace, burying your face in the crook of his neck, the scent of roses filling your senses. the smell was comforting, and you felt your eyelids droop, and you let sleep take over.Â
seonghwa smiled fondly at the sleeping girl in his arms, looking peaceful and at ease. he brushed a stray strand of hair off your forehead, tucking it gently behind your ear. the night was cool and crisp and tame, just how seonghwa preferred it to be. âhyung?â a quiet voice said behind him. he turned around, careful not to wake you, and saw yeosang standing behind him.
âyeosang? what is it? is something wrong?â san hesitated as he saw the immediate concern on seonghwaâs face. âi- i just wanted to see if y/nâs alright.â âsheâs fine, just tired. why?â âah, no reason, just curious.â âsan, are you ok? youâre acting a bit strange.â âiâm alright, just tired. wooyoung âs been a pain in my ass all day.â seonghwa chuckled at that. âperfectly understandable. wooyoung can be quite the handful sometimes.âÂ
yeosang gave the older an awkward wave, trying not to run away in embarrassment across the grass. as soon as he plopped down next to wooyoung, said male turned to him anticipation. âso, what did you see?â âshe was asleep in seonghwa hyungâs arms; they were practically cuddling.â wooyoung clapped excitedly, and yeosang smacked him on the shoulder. âcut that out. just because i caught them cuddling doesnât prove anything. sheâs fallen asleep on all of us at some point.â âwas she on his lap?â âwhat in tarturus? no, of course not.â âshe was curled up in his arms, thatâs all.âÂ
âare you seriously still convinced that seonghwa hyung doesnât pine for her?â yeosang sighed. âlook, wooyoung, you should really just give up on this, i mean, donât you think trying to prove something that you know isnât true a waste of time?â âit may be to you, but not to me! he loves her, iâm sure of it!â âjust donât go overboard, ok?â âi wonât, i swear on the river styx.â âi sense empty promises, but fine.âÂ
mingi sat on the edge of a ravine, feet dangling dangerously in the air, dried tears on his cheeks. he didnât know when the crying had stopped, nor did he know how he ended up at the very edge of the forest. maddox was standing a few feet away, giving him space, which mingi was grateful for. his mind was swimming with thoughts and his heart ached.Â
he felt pathetic, for even thinking that someone like him had a chance with you. you looked happy, happier than he had ever seen you. there was a part of him that was happy that you were being cherished, for it was what you truly deserved. i was foolish to think that she ever showed any interest in me as a lover, mingi thought glumly, fighting back another deluge of tears.Â
he heard soft footsteps behind him and a few seconds later, a warm and gentle hand was on his shoulder. mingi sighed. âare you going to give me a lecture about how much of a fool i am?â âof course not, and youâre anything but a fool.â he let out a bitter, sad laugh. âhow would you know that?â âbecause iâve been your mentor for years, and while you were a bit clumsy at first, you persisted.â âwhat are you trying to say?â âiâm trying to tell you that you shouldnât give up! so what if she has a potential suitor? make her see what sheâs missing!â âyou want me to make her jealous?â âexactly! then sheâll realize just how much of a great hero and guy you are, and then sheâll practically beg for you to be her lover.â mingi shook his head. âthereâs no way in tarturus iâm doing that.â âwhy not?!â âi donât want to make anger her for my personal gain, itâs not right.âÂ
âok, then, what do you think you should do?â âyou saw her! she looks happy, and i donât want to ruin that for her. i should try to move on.â maddox sighed. âdo you even know who she was with?â ân-no? should i know him?â âdo you remember when i mentioned the muses?â âvaguely.â his mentor rolled his eyes. âanyway, the guy you saw her with was one of the nine muses.â âw-what? how did you know?â âi thought it was pretty clear.â âhow can you-â âcenturies ago, they attended one of the council meetings. the muse you saw her with was the one who did most of the talking.â âi thought muses didnât involve themselves with the council.â âthey donât, but maybe they had a reason to.âÂ
âthat doesnât mean anything, he could be her lover.â âbelieve what you want, kid. iâm not going to attempt to convince you otherwise. just donât sulk about it too much.â with that, maddox walked away, leaving him with his thoughts and a heavy heart.Â
âare you close with seonghwa hyung?â you laughed, carefully rolling up another scroll and placing it back on the massive shelf in front of you. âwhat do you mean, woo? iâm close with all of you.â âi know that, but-â âbut?â ânever mind.â wooyoung mumbled, plopping down on a nearby chair, lips forming a visible pout. you sighed in exasperation, walking over to said sulking male, ruffling his hair affectionately. âwhatâs wrong, woo?â ânothing, iâm just tired from yesterday evening, i suppose.â âoh, well, why did you come along with me, then? you didnât have to, i know reading scrolls can be quite a bore.â âi didnât want to leave you all alone. if something happened to you, seonghwa hyung would have my head.â you smiled, pulling the dance muse into a tight embrace. âwooyoung, thatâs very sweet of you, but you know i can handle myself.âÂ
âi know, but if hades-â âhe hasnât come after me yet, and i doubt he will soon. even if he does, he wonât hurt me, at least, not enough to kill me.â ây/n! donât say that! we wouldnât be able to live with ourselves if something happened to you.â you felt your heart ache and hugged wooyoung tighter. âiâm sorry for saying that, i just-â âitâs ok, y/n. just promise me that youâll let us protect you?â you nodded. âi will, i promise.âÂ
âwhat do you think of y/n?â yeosang asked, quite abruptly at that, and seonghwa felt his eyes widen in shock at the sudden bluntness. âi donât quite understand the question, yeosang, i-â âjust answer it.â âok, ok, uhm, well, sheâsâŠ.â the former gestured for seonghwa to continue. âsheâs wonderful. sheâs very caring, loving, and is very selfless. y/n is always there for us, always.âÂ
yeosang felt guilt rising in his stomach. he hated lying to seonghwa, especially after he now knew that wooyoung was completely wrong about how the older felt about y/n. at least, it was clear to him that she was nothing more than a dear friend, a sister, even. âare you alright?â yeosang snapped out of his thoughts, giving a worried seonghwa a half smile that he hoped was convincing enough. âiâm fine, just exhausted.âÂ
seonghwaâs golden eyes narrowed in suspicion, but he didnât press further. âi have to go help y/n with something, iâll see you in the evening?â yeosang managed a brief nod before the former walked off. he sighed, leaning back on the rough bark of a tree behind him. things were definitely going to get even more complicated, and yeosang wasnât looking forward to it in the slightest.Â
âdonât you think wooyoung and yeosang are being a little... â âstrange?â âi suppose? wooyoung asked me if iâm close to you.â seonghwa raised an amused eyebrow, carefully rolling up a scroll. âclose in what way?â suprisingly, you felt your cheeks flush scarlet. âi-â âas lovers?â ây-yes.âÂ
âah, well, that is quite amusing.â âis it?â seonghwa nodded, golden eyes twinkling with mirth. âyou are not angry?â âwhy would i be angry? any man would be lucky to have you.â âthank you, hwa.â his expression softened, if that was even possible. you smiled, carefully pulling another scroll from the shelf. âiâve always loved coming here.â âi know. whenever we visited the town, you would beg us to take you to the library so you could read scrolls.â you blushed. âthat mustâve been quite irritating.â seonghwa shook his head. ânot at all, it was quite endearing.âÂ
âiâve always loved stories, even as a child. though i donât remember much about my parents, i know they always told me them to help me sleep. that is, before they abandoned me.â you didnât even realize you were crying until strong arms were around you, pulling you into a comforting and tight embrace. âiâm sorry, i donât know why iâm being so emotional all the time. you must think iâm being dramatic.â seonghwa scoffed. âyou are not. iâm the one who should be asking for your forgiveness.â âhwa-â âhear me out, ok? i was the one who suggested we come here, and that was a terrible thing to do, because it surfaced tragic memories of your past. iâm so sorry, darling, i shouldâve been more considerate-â âhwa, listen to me. it was not your fault. you didnât know, and besides, i think itâs important for me to bring the painful memories to light instead of dwelling on them. iâve been resenting my parents for centuries, and i think itâs time i start trying to forgive them.â seonghwaâs expression softened, as it always seemed to whenever he looked at you, a small smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. âif you need any assistance, iâm here for you, and so are the others.â âi know, thank you, hwa. i really donât know what i would do without any of you in my life.â âthat was extremely clichĂ©, but iâll let it slide because the feeling is mutual.â âyouâre the absolute worst, you know that?â seonghwa laughed, eyes crinkling at the corners. i know, but you love me.â âcorrection, i tolerate you, thereâs a difference.â that earned you a light shove to the shoulder, and you couldnât help but throw your head back and laugh, feeling lighter than you had been in centuries.Â
âwooyoung, i really think we should put an end to our bet, i mean, thereâs no point anymore.â âwhy? did seonghwa hyung tell you something? or did you tell him about it?â yeosang sighed in frustration. âi didnât tell him anything, i just really think it would be best to stop.â wooyoung huffed. âhow can you be so sure?â âi just- look, i really donât think seonghwa hyung loves y/n in a romantic way.â âsuit yourself, yeosang, iâm going to prove it.â âdo what you want.âÂ
âkid, are you even listening to me?â maddoxâs worried voice snapped mingi out of the trance heâd been under, bringing him back to reality. the former sighed. âletâs take a break.â mingi nodded, carefully putting the bow and arrow heâd been holding off to the side, plopping down onto the soft grass beneath him, the blades tickling his bare legs. âare you alright?â maddox asked, his voice unusually soft, as if mingi were a fawn that would run away the instant it heard a loud noise. mingi didnât reply, just shook his head softly and hugged his knees to his chest, somehow managing to look small and almost vulnerable, despite his bulk.Â
maddox sighed, settling down beside him on the grass. âi know that sulking over unrequited love is trivial and a little pathetic of me-â âitâs not pathetic. youâre heartbroken, and itâs okay to sulk.â mingi managed a small, grateful smile. âthank you.â âiâve never felt this way about anyone, and i know thatâs clichĂ©, but itâs true. sheâs the only girl who doesnât fawn over me like everyone else, she doesnât even know about my being a hero or slaying monsters!â âshe knows you as mingi, not mingi the hero.â âyes, and that simple fact makes it hurt even more.â Â
mingi didnât even realize he was crying until he felt a comforting hand on his shoulder, squeezing gently. âitâs okay, kid, let it out. iâm sorry for pushing you too hard to train. i didnât realize you were still grieving.â âstop making it sound as if iâm mourning the loss of a loved one.â mingi scolded, but it was light-hearted.Â
âiâll be okay, i just need time.â âtake all the time you need, iâll be here for you if you ever need a shoulder to cry on.â âthank you.â âiâll likely forget about her, so donât get your hopes up.â maddox grimaced. he knew that mingi would most definitely not do such a thing, and that he would sulk about her for gods knew how long. i just hope he doesnât completely fall apart, maddox thought, fighting back tears.Â
seonghwa hummed softly to himself as he admired the deep purple hyacinths on either side of him, contrasting greatly with the forest green of the grass. the day was perfect, with a light, refreshing breeze tugging at his hair and toga, ruffling the leaves and branches of trees, the sky cloudless and blue, and the sun shining golden beams of light upon the earth. the air was just the right temperature, and seonghwa absolutely adored days like these.Â
wooyoung, jongho, yeosang, and san had all gone to the town marketplace to find food for supper, and you and hongjoong were in the center of the garden, weaving flower crowns, which left seonghwa by himself for a bit. not that he minded, of course, seonghwa secretly enjoyed it when he got some time for himself, so he can be alone with his thoughts.Â
while he loved his fellow muses dearly, it could get overwhelming to be around them at times. seonghwa never took the moments he got to himself for granted, for they were rare. seonghwa was so lost in thought that he didnât notice you settling down on the grass beside him, a hand woven crown of roses on your head. âhwa?â you asked, which made him jump in surprise. âwhen did you get here?â âabout a few seconds ago, why?â âno reason, just, you scared me, is all.â you smiled in amusement. âyouâre always so easily startled, huh?â seonghwa felt his face flush scarlet. âwerenât you with hongjoong?â âi was, but he insisted i keep you company.â âi hope iâm not bothering you, you seemed like you wanted to be alone for a while.âÂ
seonghwa nodded sheepishly. âwell, one part of that is true.â âwhich one?â âthe second, because you could never bother me.â that earned him a light shove to the shoulder. âwhen did you get so cheesy?â âiâm the muse of love poetry, cheesy is all i know how to write.â you laughed, and seonghwa ignored the way his heart sped up a bit at the sound. âwhat were you thinking about?â âyou donât have to tell me, of course, only if youâre willing.â âitâs okay, i wasnât thinking about anything in particular, actually.â âjust daydreaming then?â seonghwa smiled. âperhaps.âÂ
you returned his smile, eyes crinkling at the corners, and the sight made seonghwaâs heart clench painfully. he felt his pulse race as you moved closer to him and laid your head on his shoulder, all the while making sure not to crumple your flower crown. youâd done this many times before, but it never failed to make seonghwaâs heart race. he knew it was pathetic and silly to harbor feelings for someone who would never return them, but he couldnât help it.Â
you were kind, loving, the most gorgeous woman heâd ever seen, and whenever you looked at him, it felt like a punch to the gut. he loved the way your expression would brighten when visiting the town library, looking at various scrolls. most off all, he loved how selfless you were, and that you would do anything for the ones you loved.
while it was extremely painful to see you long for someone else, you were at least happy, and that was all that mattered to seonghwa. you deserved someone who would cherish you for the rest of your life, and who would never hurt you.Â
seonghwa ignored the shiver that ran down his spine as you snuggled closer into his side. as if on impulse, he wrapped an arm around your shoulders, your bare skin warm against his own, and held you tight. âare you alright?â âyes, just a bit exhausted. is it okay if i take a short nap?â âgo ahead, iâll wake you once itâs time for supper.â you shot him a grateful smile, and seconds later, you were fast asleep. seonghwa sighed heavily, resisting the urge to hide his face in his hands to hide the blush that was forming on his face. i need to get ahold of myself, seonghwa thought.Â
wooyoung hid the smirk that was tugging at his lips as he caught sight of you cuddled up against seonghwa, resting your head on his shoulder. â what are you doing?â a voice asked, which made wooyoung jump in shock. âsan! did you have to sneak up on me like that?â said male rolled his eyes. âi didnât sneak up on you, you were just too busy staring at seonghwa and y/n that you didnât notice.â â are you stalking them or something?â wooyoung huffed in frustration and hit san gently on the shoulder. âi am doing nothing of the sort!â âthen, what are you doing?â âiâm observing?â âseriously, woo?â what? just think of it as supervising.â san just sighed in frustration. âyou really expect me to believe that? y/n can take care of herself, and seonghwa would rather get thrown into the depths of the underworld than even think of hurting her. whatâs the real reason youâre watching them like a creep?â wooyoung sighed. âkeep this a secret, okay?â san nodded. though his expression seemed uninterested, his violet eyes were glinting with curiosity. when wooyoung was done explaining, san burst out laughing.Â
âyou think iâm insane, donât you?â âuh, yeah, i kind of do.â âlook, woo, do you really believe that seonghwa hyung is in love with y/n? donât you think thatâs a little⊠i donât know, impossible?â âanything is possible, san!â âyes, but not that.â âwhy? why does everyone think iâm crazy for this?â âwooyoungâs right, san.â they turned and saw hongjoong standing a few feet away, arms crossed over his chest, expression unreadable. âhow long have you been standing there?âÂ
hongjoong shrugged. âlong enough.â âwait, what? what do you mean iâm right?â âyouâre right about seonghwa.â wooyoung let out a small whoop of triumph, while san looked at hongjoong in utter disbelief. âwhat in tartarus? how do you know that?â âbecause he told me.â âwhen?â wooyoung asked, practically beaming. âcenturies ago.â âwait, so seonghwa hyungâs liked her for that long?!â hongjoong grimaced. âah, itâs actually the opposite of that.â âhe loves her?!â san blurted, and wooyoung slapped a hand over his mouth. âdonât be so loud! seonghwa hyungâs nearby, he might hear you!â he hissed. ïżœïżœïżœwhen did you notice?â wooyoung asked, slowly taking his hand off sanâs mouth, who glared at him in return. âi thought it was pretty obvious, and honestly, iâm quite surprised no one picked up on it sooner.â âso, when did he tell you?âÂ
âi donât remember exactly, but iâm pretty sure it was when y/n was in the garden with you guys and seonghwa and i went somewhere to talk in secret. he was extremely anxious.âÂ
(six centuries ago)Â
hongjoong let out a cry of protest as seonghwa led him into a more secluded part of the garden, anxiety rolling off the latter in waves. the late afternoon sun cast golden beams of light on the soft patches of green grass. the air was crisp and cool, and the weather had never been more perfect. âwhatâs wrong?â seonghwa hesitated, rocking back and forth on his heels.Â
âi-i love someone.â hongjoongâs eyes widened. âwhat?â âi know itâs sudden of me to say something so bold, but i-i know that i love her.â âwho is she? do we know her?â seonghwa chuckled, golden eyes shining with an emotion that hongjoong had never seen him express before. âyes, you know her, very well, in fact.â hongjoong furrowed his brows in confusion, thinking about which female in the entirety of athens seonghwa had his heart set on, and suddenly, it clicked. the gentle and soft gazes heâd send your way, the way heâd look at you as if you were the only star in the sky, and the way he handed you a basket of flowers or even a piece of fruit were all telltale signs that seonghwa was irrevocably smitten, and yet hongjoong hadnât realized it until now.Â
âi- when did you realize that you loved her?â seonghwa rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly, color staining his cheeks. âdo you remember that city official that started to insult y/n the day we went to the market?â hongjoong grimaced at the memory. âof course, how could i forget? i was tempted to throw him into the depths of tarturus.â âshe defended herself before we could, despite having tears in her eyes. she was so strong, and i admired her for that. i knew that she was not a damsel in distress, and that she was perfectly capable of taking care of herself, but iâve always felt i need to protect her, to shield her from harm. isnât that so selfish of me?â seonghwa asked, laughing bitterly. âitâs not selfish, it just shows how much you love her.âÂ
âi suppose. hongjoong, promise me that this will stay between us?â âof course.â hongjoong said, swallowing against the bile in his throat. the smile that seonghwa sent his way afterwards, bright and hopeful, made his stomach churn with guilt.Â
âthat day was the worst, i was going to kill him if someone didnât stop me.â san hissed, glaring at hongjoong, who rolled his eyes. âiâm sorry i foiled your plans of vengeance, but seonghwa wouldâve killed me if anything happened to any of you.â âseonghwa hyung really is in love with y/n.â wooyoung mumbled, looking dazed, as if he had been in a trance. âyes, he is. now, you two have to promise me that this stays between us. seonghwa cannot know that i told you.âÂ
san pursed his lips tightly. âi hate keeping secrets from him.â âi know, but if finds out that i told you this, he will never forgive me, and i canât live with myself knowing that i hurt seonghwa.â san looked as if heâd rather jump into the river of souls than agree to it, but just sighed and gave hongjoong a small nod. âfine, but donât make me regret this.âÂ
hongjoong gave the younger a grateful smile.â thank you, san.â âiâll also keep this from seonghwa hyung, but itâs not going to be easy.â âi know, just try your hardest not to tell him.â wooyoung also looked as if he were going to object, but managed a miniscule nod. âi just hope that no one gets hurt in the end.â hongjoong felt dread pool in his stomach at the thought of seonghwa looking at him with absolute hatred and sadness in his eyes, and forced what he hoped was a convincing smile on his face. âtime will tell.âÂ
after the confrontation with san and wooyoung, hongjoong headed to another secluded part of the garden, feeling dazed. he settled onto a soft patch of grass, stretching his legs and basking in the late afternoon sun. though the weather usually lifted hongjoongâs spirits, today, it did nothing to distract him from the immense guilt he felt. he knew it wasnât his right to tell seonghwaâs secret, but he had just suddenly gotten the urge to, after overhearing wooyoung and sanâs conversation. hongjoong sighed, reaching up and rubbing at his temples. he would be doomed if seonghwa ever came to know that his secret had been disclosed, especially since heâd promised all those centuries ago not to tell anyone.Â
âjoong?â a soft voice said, and hongjoong looked up to see you standing over him, an amused smile on your face. ây/n?â âtaking a nap?â you asked, settling down beside him, your sky blue robes bright against the green grass. hongjoong shook his head. âno, just thinking.â âabout what? you donât have to tell me, of course, iâm just curious.â âwell, honestly, it wasnât anything important.â you didnât look too convinced, but didnât press further, much to hongjoongâs relief. âcan i talk to you about something?â âof course, anything.â hongjoong said, immediately sitting up and moving closer to you, wrapping an arm around your shoulders. âwhatâs troubling you?â you sighed, leaning your head on his shoulder. âitâs seonghwa.â âwhat about him? is he being an asshole?â you laughed softly. âno, of course not. hwaâs one of the sweetest, gentlest, most patient, loving, and selfless people i know. he doesnât have a mean bone in his body.âÂ
âthen, whatâs wrong?â âi- is he in pain?â âwhat do you mean?â âis he pining for a lost love?â hongjoong felt his stomach coil with nerves. âwhy do you ask?â âiâve noticed the way he looks at me, almost as if i remind him of someone who hurt him.â no, itâs because seonghwaâs in love with you, but heâs not saying anything because he knows you will not return his feelings, hongjoong thought sadly. âis he hurting because of me? did i do something?â you sounded so sad, so lost, and hongjoongâs heart ached. âno, of course not. seonghwaâs always been one to wander off into his own thoughts and keep his feelings to himself. he doesnât want us worrying about him. heâs probably just daydreaming or exhausted.â âi suppose.â you murmured, snuggling deeper into hongjoongâs side. hongjoong forced what he hoped was a convincing smile on his face and held you tighter.Â
mingi loosed a breath as he let an arrow fly, allowing a small smile when it struck the center of the target. the air was warm but not too humid, and he loved when the sun would shine through the trees, bathing the forest in golden light. it was late afternoon, and he had finally gotten out of bed after a while to train. maddox had had business in town, so that left him alone for the day.Â
mingi sighed and propped his bow against a tree, practically collapsing onto the soft grass. itâd been a long few days, of which were mainly spent crying until his throat and eyes hurt, or until maddox threatened to throw him into the river if he wouldnât stop sulking. ever since that day, mingi had been trying his best to heal from the heartbreak he experienced. it was a bit pathetic that he was so devastated over a girl that he barely knew, but in some ways, he felt drawn to you. he felt as if there was something that intrigued him about you, but couldnât quite name the cause. he supposed that as long as you were happy and that you were being treated well, there was nothing he could do. after all, he was a hero, destined to save athens or whatever fairy-tale shit maddox ranted about constantly, and if you were together, you would be in constant danger. mingi knew he couldnât live with himself if anyone he loved got hurt or killed, and the image of you being stabbed or becoming lifeless in his arms sent a shudder through his body. mingi closed his eyes and let the tears fall, wondering if he would ever get his so-called âhappy ending.âÂ
yunho laid next to wooyoung on the worn blanket seonghwa had found lying around the cottage, and looked up at the night sky, stars glittering like precious jewels. the air was crisp and cool, and he allowed a small smile to tug at his lips. yunho turned his head slightly to see you and san sitting on a patch of soft grass, your head resting on his shoulder. âpenny for your thoughts?â wooyoung said, snapping yunho back to reality.Â
he felt his face flush scarlet at the knowing smirk on wooyoungâs face, and swatted at him with his hand, causing the younger to laugh. âi do not feel that way about y/n, if thatâs what youâre thinking.â wooyoung rolled his eyes. âi know you donât, i was just teasing you.â a comfortable silence settled between them, and yunho sighed, turning his attention back to the stars, mind wandering once again.Â
dinner had been normal, with the occasional light chatter and wooyoung and san bickering over trivial matters, but the aftermath had been quite strange. san had given wooyoung a look that clearly said âdonât you dare speak another word or i will throw you into the riverâ , and the latter had whined in protest, but didnât say anything else after. yunho had looked at them with utter confusion, wondering what in zeusâ name theyâd been arguing about, but didnât bother to ask.Â
he just hoped that whatever secret they were keeping wouldnât cause any conflict.Â
you sighed, snuggling deeper into sanâs side for warmth, and said male wrapped an arm around your shoulders. âtired?â he asked. you nodded, resting your head on his shoulder. âdid seonghwa nag you too much today?â he asked, voice light and teasing. you rolled your eyes playfully. âno, he didnât. today was just a long one, thatâs all.â san hummed in agreement, squeezing your shoulder gently, as if in comfort. you shifted so that you were now lying on his lap, and he chuckled softly, playing with the loose strands of your hair. âare you really going to use my lap as a pillow?â âyes, is there a problem?â san shook his head. âof course not, you know i was just teasing.â âsan?â âhmm?â âthank you.â âfor what, love?â âno reason, iâm just glad youâre in my life.â âwhen did you get so cheesy? youâve really been spending way too much time with seonghwa hyung.â you flelt your face flush scarlet. âs-shut up, iâm trying to be sentimental and youâre ruining the moment.â san laughed, patting your head gently. âok, ok, fine.â you soon fell asleep to san humming softly.Â
san smiled as you slept, absentmindedly playing with the soft strands of your hair, humming a song heâd heard jongho sing once, and leaned back against the rough bark of the eucalyptus tree that took up one side of the garden, letting his mind wander. dinner had been interesting, and he grimaced as he remembered how wooyoung had nearly let seonghwaâs secret come to light. wooyoung needs to be more cautious, otherwise, seonghwa hyung might never forgive hongjoong hyung for telling us his secret.Â
it was also where he noticed firsthand that seonghwa was irrevocably and utterly in love with y/n, despite knowing that his feelings would never be returned. san didnât know how he hadnât noticed before. it was evident in the way seonghwa would look at you, as if you were the only star in the sky, and even a small gesture as handing you a piece of bread from across the table. his fingers always seemed to brush against yours in such an intimate way that san felt himself blush and look away.Â
san winced as he recalled the conversation with hongjoong and wooyoung earlier that evening, and his heart ached for seonghwa, whose love was unrequited, and for hongjoong, who had succumbed to the pressure of keeping such a secret that he told him and wooyoung.Â
he felt as if they didnât deserve to know, for the secret felt so personal to seonghwa, and san knew that he would be devastated if he knew that hongjoong had told them. holding back tears, san closed his eyes and let sleep take over.Â
mingi woke to maddox gently shaking him, whispering fervently. he sat up immediately, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. âwhat is it? did something happen?â even in the darkness of the cottage, he could make out the pale and ashen color of maddoxâs face, and his stomach coiled with fear. his mentor gulped nervously before replying, his voice barely audible. âhades.â âwhat?â mingi felt blood rushing to his ears, and he felt himself get out of bed, hastily throwing the thin blankets off of him, reaching for his sword, which had been thrown on a pile of old clothes earlier that night. mingi could feel the nervous tension in the air as he loosed a breath and headed out into the cool night, feeling a shiver course through him. maddox was trailing slowly behind him, footsteps quiet and hesitant.Â
mingi knew it was extremely foolish to confront hades not properly armed, but at least maddox was with him. now, his mentor wasnât the strongest or the best fighter, but he could at least try and figure out a way for him to escape unscathed, or at least mingi hoped he could.Â
the air got thicker with tension as mingi ventured deeper into the forest, ignoring the small voice in the back of his mind, screaming at him to run away. mingi knew that hades was close by, as the scent of death and smoke filled his nostrils as he neared a more secluded part of the forest, which, ironically, happened to be near a field of blooming hyacinths. the sight that beheld him made his heart drop down into his stomach and his blood run cold.Â
you were laying at hadesâ feet, pale blue robes streaked with dirt, curled into yourself, as if bracing for an attack that would hopefully never come. mingi ducked behind a tree, hoping it would somehow obscure him from view. âyouâre pathetic.â hades hissed, dark eyes flashing with pure disgust. you groaned, neck straining to look up at the god of the dead, expression full of fury and pure hatred. âi thought i made it clear that my relations with you were over.â you seethed, wiping blood from the corner of your mouth. hades laughed, cold and heartless. âyou very aware of my conditions when you signed your soul over to me, and one of them was that you will never be free until you fufill my end of our deal. you seemed so willing all those centuries ago, i wonder what changed? is it because you fell in love?â hades sneered, tone dripping with mock cheerfulness.Â
you said nothing, clenching your jaw in anger and curling your hand into a fist. hades laughed, the sound hollow and void of emotion. âhow touching, you fell in love with the very person you were supposed to lead to his own demise. i assume you want me to spare him?â
you glared at the god of the dead, refusing to show any signs of fear, and mingiâs heart ached at the sight. âno, i very well know that you will kill him anyway, for seeing heroes perish brings you great pleasure.â hades clicked his tongue in mock disappointment. âiâm appalled that such a thought would ever cross your mind.â âyouâll spare him, then? if i request it?â hades scoffed. âyouâd be foolish to think that i would ever take a request from such a weak and pathetic woman such as yourself.âÂ
mingi felt a hand grip his shoulder tightly, and didnât try to resist. âkid, if you go out ther now, youâll die. hades may be a prick, but heâs powerful, and can most likely turn you into ashes before you can even take a single step.â maddox murmured, voice barely audible, but mingi nodded, a sign that heâd heeded his warning, and the grip on his shoulder loosened.Â
seonghwa felt his heart shatter at the sight of you crumpled on the ground, pale blue robes dirty and blood-stained, helpless and injured. it took every ounce of self-control for him not to run over to you and wrap you into his arms and hold you. he knew that you would never forgive yourself if something happened to him or the others, and that you would continue to blame yourself for their deaths, no matter what. seonghwa bit back tears as he watched hades sneer and curse at you, hands curling into his white robes, the soft fabric bunching in his grip.Â
the others were fast asleep at the cottage, and that fact alone made seonghwaâs heart settle, just a bit. seonghwa was glad that they werenât witnessing the horrific scene before him, for he knew that the sight would be too much to bear.Â
out of the corner of his eye, he noticed mingi, armed with nothing but a sword, clutching it in his hand tightly, and a shorter man with shoulder length hair was with him, body stiff with tension. it was maddox, who he had seen occasionally at council meetings, quiet but not afraid to speak his mind when needed.Â
seonghwa felt his blood run cold when mingi finally stepped out of the shadows, with maddox trying and failing to prevent him from being reckless, and held his sword out in front of him, the silver blade glinting in the dark.Â
hadesâ dark eyes shifted towards the newcomer, and the smirk that tugged at the corner of his lips was enough to make seonghwa shudder with fear. âlook who decided to join us. if it isnât the hero himself.â âlet her go.â mingi hissed, body tight with tension. hades chuckled darkly. âand why would i do that? what could a mere human like you offer me, a god?â âitâs me you want dead, isnât it?â seonghwaâs heart dropped into his stomach at the naked fear on your face, and clutched the fabric of his robe tighter. donât be so reckless, seonghwa wanted to scream, but he knew that if he were in mingiâs position, he wouldâve done the same, so he forced himself to stay quiet. âi would take pleasure in seeing your untimely demise, such is true, but what would you give me in return?â
seonghwa racked his brain for a list of possible things mingi could offer to the god, and cursed under his breath when he realized that the only thing the latter could give hades was his soul. âiâll trade you my soul, but only if you agree to break the contract you have with her.âÂ
hadesâ dark eyes flashed dangerously. âyou do know what selling your soul to me entails?â mingi nodded. in doing so, i enter a state of servitude, until you decide to give me freedom.âÂ
your eyes widened in horror, and seonghwa watched, heart aching, as you struggled to your feet, unable to stop the tears from streaming down your face. âmingi, do not sacrifice your freedom or your soul for me. i donât deserve to be saved.â âdonât say such things! youâre brave and selfless and-â âi am not! iâve been working with hades all this time, trying to find out your weakness so that he may kill you! i donât deserve to be saved or sought after by someone who is righteous and honest and brave. i-â you broke off at the sight of the confused, angry, and devastated expression on mingiâs face. nearby, hades chuckled darkly.Â
âiâll leave you two lovebirds alone, it seems you two have many things to discuss.â hades drawled, tone dripping with mock sympathy. with a flick of his hand and a long, tired sigh, the god of the dead disappeared in a cloud of black smoke. mingi turned his head away, closing his eyes, as if the sight of you was too much for him to bear.Â
âwhy?â mingi asked in a soft voice, confused and hurt. âi did not want you to find out this way, especially with hades in our presence. i never meant to hurt you, i-âÂ
âyou lied to me?â âyes, but i-â âbut you what? thought it would be amusing to lead me on? to rip my heart out?â you visibly flinched at the uncharacteristic coldness in mingiâs voice, and seonghwa gulped nervously.Â
âplease, i can explain-â mingi shook his head, grip tightening on the hilt of his sword. âi never want to see you again, and donât you ever think for one second that iâm going to come to rescue you from whatever danger you might face. you disgust me.â he snapped, voice as cold and hard as steel. you reached out helplessly as mingi turned on his heels and walked away, not bothering to look back, and thatâs when seonghwa couldnât bear to watch any longer.Â
seonghwa ran out from his hiding place and pulled you into his arms, rubbing comforting circles on his back and whispering soothing words in your ear. âh-hwa. h-he hates me.â you sobbed, curling your fingers in the fabric of his robes. seonghwa could only hold you tight as you cried into his chest, feeling his heart ache even more.Â
you returned to the cottage with seonghwa carrying you in his arms, your heart heavy and face tear-stained. your robes were filthy and torn, but seonghwa didnât seem to mind as he had lifted you into his arms almost immediately, insisting on carrying you home. you felt tears prick your eyes at the sight of hongjoong, san, jongho, wooyoung, yeosang, and yunho standing nervously at the front of the cottage.Â
san practically tripped over his own feet trying to get to you, stroking your hair back softly as his violet eyes scanned your body, looking for any injuries. âwe were all so worried when we woke and realized you and seonghwa hyung were gone. we thought you two had been taken, or killed, or-â âsan, iâm so sorry. iâm sorry for worrying everyone. i seem to always cause trouble whenever iâm with you, and i always feel as if iâm a burden.â
âyou could never be a burden to us, darling, we just hate seeing you get hurt.â yeosang strode right up to seonghwa, caramel eyes bright with anger. âyou let her be injured? you watched as she got hurt and verbally harassed by hades? what kind of friend are you?â he asked, a harsh laugh escaping his mouth. before seonghwa could respond, san stepped forward, violet eyes bright with warning, gripping the comedy museâs shoulder tightly. âthatâs enough, yeosang.â
yeosang pursed his lips tightly, shook sanâs hand off him, and stormed into the cottage. âi-iâm so sorry y/n, i shouldâve done something-â you shook your head, reaching up and cupping seonghwaâs chin gently so heâd look at you. ânone of this is your fault, hwa, and give yeosang time to clear his head, iâm sure heâs just angry because iâm hurt and he needs someone to blame.â âi just hope you two donât resent me.â you scoffed, shifting so that you were a little more comfortable in seonghwaâs arms. âwe will not.âÂ
seonghwa smiled gently down at you as he carried you into the cottage, and you let yourself fall into a deep sleep, the ache in your heart subsiding, just a bit.Â
mingi buried his face into his pillow, soft sobs wracking his body. maddox sat slumped in a chair nearby, his expression grim. âiâm sorry your first love had to end so tragically, kid.â mingi didnât reply, only cried harder, feeling as if his heart was going to spill out of his chest.Â

âlet me goâ but like angsty lemyanka maybe if lemon is moving back to nyc from toronto đ
here u go ! the most angsty thing i have ever written and will probably ever write. i havent proofread it bc its late, im tired and i got a bit carried away and ended up writing 1.7k words so.... yeah. hope u like it ! <3
âlet me goâ
Lemon and Priyanka were clearly in love. Everyone knew it, everyone could see. Deep down, they both knew that they were, but no matter how many times they ended up in eachothers beds, it just never came up. Because if it did, well, Lemonâs not too sure what would happen. But it would be a lot, maybe too much. So she decided to stick with friends with benefits, nothing more, and it worked. For a while. Until she didnât know what counted as overstepping anymore and calling Priyanka her friend just felt like a lie, even though it wasnât, not really. But the ânot reallyâ part is what fucked her up.Â
Lemon could only deal with so much. She had her walls, they were strong and tall and Priyanka was the only one who could get through, but they just didnât feel like they were protecting her anymore. One day, she feared they would become a little too high, a little too unstable, and crush her. And she didnât want Priyanka to have to deal with that.Â
She had already made the decision to move back to New York before she even admitted it to herself. She tended to listen to her brain over her heart - youâre less likely to get hurt that way. Somehow, this time round she couldn't quite tell which part she was listening to, but before she knew it, she was on the phone to her friend Jan asking for a place to stay.Â
Jan was more than happy, albeit a little concerned, for Lemon to live with her for a bit, claiming she could use the company and the help with rent. It was a win-win situation. Though, was Lemon winning? She wasnât so sure, she was however very stubborn and once she had made her mind up, there was no going back. It would be nice to see her New York friends again, they hadnât fallen out of touch but things are always harder when youâre so far apart. Besides, she needed a change of scenery, she missed walking the streets of the city that never sleeps.Â
The real reason behind her decision was Priyanka. She didnât tell anyone about it but Jan, knowing she would need at least some form of support once the train arrived. She just couldnât bear to keep up with whatever their current situation was, but also she wasnât sure she had the courage to talk about her real feelings, so the only option she could see was to just run away. They could keep in contact, a couple of texts and maybe a bi-weekly phone call, and Lemon could find some other girl to fall in love with and then she would be over her.Â
She didnât know how to be in love, and even if Priyanka could show her, she didnât know if she was ready, if she was prepared. Because love was scary. Commitment, too. Itâs not that Lemon was scared they would end up breaking up, she was scared that they would never break up. She was still young, and while some people long to find the love of their life early on, Lemon found herself staring at hers right in the face and it just felt too overwhelming.Â
She had started hinting to Priyanka that she missed her New York friends about a month before she planned to be leaving. Priyanka would suggest a weekâs visit, and Lemon would just shrug it off. She just didnât want it to come out of the blue when she finally told her that she'd be moving. And yet, all her hints didnât stop Priyanka from being surprised.Â
It was dark out, and the pair lay not so comfortably in Lemonâs bed. It was too hot but neither had the energy to do anything about it, so they stayed there in silence, Lemon slowly building up the courage to speak.Â
âHey, Pri?â She barely recognised her own voice, hating the crack that came out when she started speaking. Priyanka hummed in response, turning her head to face Lemonâs, eyes trained on the side of Lemonâs head as the yellow haired girl stared blankly at the ceiling. Eye contact would be too much, she didnât want to see Priyankaâs face when she told her.Â
âIâm moving back to New York.â
Silence.Â
More silence.
Then, the shuffling of covers and creaks of floorboards as Priyanka grabbed her stuff and left. Somehow Lemon didnât register any of it until the door had shut behind her. She closed her eyes and went to sleep.
The next day, Priyanka showed up at her door again, not too long after the sun rose. She looked tired, but Lemon said nothing because she probably looked the same.
âSorry for just, leaving. I, uh, I was pissed off? I think?â Lemonâs jaw dropped.
âIâm sorry, you were pissed? At me? Priyanka, I get that I could have told you sooner but donât pretend like telling you would have made me change my mind.â
âWouldnât it? Why are you moving anyway? When are you moving?â
âI miss my friends. I miss New York. I need a change, a get-away. I leave in two weeksâ
âJesus Christ,â Priyanka almost stomped past Lemon, sitting on the couch with an angry thud. âYouâre telling me, you move to New York in two weeks, because you miss your friends, and I am only just finding out now? That is bullshit, Lemonâ
Of all of the reactions Lemon anticipated, this was not one of them. They never argued. They always poked fun, never too serious, always having a good time. But this was new. Lemon didnât even know how to argue with Priyanka. She didnât even know how she was supposed to react to hearing her full name, and the way she said it too. Lemon couldnât quite place a finger on how Priyanka was feeling, not used to not being able to read her like an open book, and she fucking hated it. But if Pri wanted to argue, then they were going to argue. Lemon didnât make this decision on whim, she needed to do this, she needed to move, she didnât have a choice.Â
âGod, Priyanka, do I need to tell you everything? Itâs not like Iâm your fucking girlfriend!â She regretted saying it the second it came out of her mouth, no matter how true it was. They avoided the word âgirlfriendâ like the plague, but apparently this was the line that needed to be crossed to have this discussion.
âNo, you donât need to tell me everything, but if youâre moving to New York? Yeah, maybe tell me. Maybe mention it before you have to leave in two weeks, for fucks sake, Lemâ
She had stopped shouting, her voice sounding a bit more tired and defeated that angry. Things were complicated. Lemon thought running away would be the easiest option. And maybe she was right. Maybe the easiest option was still hard, but it was too late to change her mind now. The damage had been done, and now Priyanka knew that she would be getting on the train in two weeks time, and they didnât know when theyâd see eachother again after that.
They spent all day talking. Avoiding direct eye contact, getting goosebumps every time their hands accidentally touched. Unsaid âI love youâs floated around them, taunting them every time Lemon went over her excuse for moving. They hid behind sad smiles and even sadder eyes, but never managed to actually surface, not like they ever did anyways.Â
They pretended like nothing happened the next day. Instead, they opted to make the most of the last week and a bit left they had together, refusing to mention the fact that time was slipping, or how much they would be lost without each other. Lemon spent her nights on the phone to Jan, planning logistics, but mostly trying not to cry about how she was leaving the woman who was quite possibly her soulmate in another country for however long without telling her how she feels.
Her final day in Toronto came round after what felt like a short eternity. She was only slightly ready. Her yellow suitcase rolled next to her and she drowned out the noise of the train station with her earphones on full volume. A coffee warmed her shaking hands as she waited for the train she was obnoxiously early for. Not long past before she felt someone sit down next to her and place a hand on her shoulder, startling her from the daze she had managed to force herself into.
Of fucking course it was Priyanka. And of course she was looking at Lemon with tears threatening to shed. Lemon placed her hand in Priyankaâs after taking out her earphones, and gave it a small squeeze.
âI donât want you to goâ Lemon wished she could kiss her and say she didnât want to go either. But she couldn't because she would be lying. She wanted to go. She loved Priyanka, and Priyanka loved her. They both knew it, without it being said. But Lemon just wasnât ready.Â
âI know. Iâll miss youâ Priyanka shook her head and tears began to fall down her cheeks, one by one then all at once.Â
âGod, Lem, what went wrong? Do I have to fucking beg you to stay or something? I donât understand why you have to move all the way to New York, I donât know what Iâm even supposed to do without you hereâ
Lemon refused to cry. She absolutely refused. When she felt the back of her eyes stinging with tears, she simply shook her head and pushed them back. Not now. Not in front of Pri.
She took her other hand, and looked Priyanka in the eyes, inching in closer and closer.Â
âPri, Iâm going, and itâs gonna be okay. Iâm gonna be fine, and youâre gonna be fine, okay love? Itâs time to just⊠let me go.â
Lemon released her hands and stood up, the action followed by Priyanka, who gave her a bone crushing hug, still crying. When she finally let go, she gave her a small kiss on the top of her head, and Lemon had to hold back her tears for the millionth time within the past five minutes. They looked at each other for just a moment, once again opting to not say anything, despite it being their final chance. Lemon gave a small nod, as if in response to the silence, before turning away and walking to her platform. She didnât look behind her. And if she stopped holding back her waterfall of tears the second she faced the other way, she could hide that from Priyanka too.

âDonât look at me like that.â âLike what?â âLike you still love me.â With Barzal or Andre Burakovsky? :â) or you can choose whoever, I trust you! đ
thank uđ although both are worthy choices, im gonna pick barzalÂ
(also, thank you for the angst prompt HAHA)
this kinda sucks but iâm trying out blurb nights! send me a request!Â
prompt: âdonât look at me like that.â âlike what?â âlike you still love me.â
you thought that when you and mat broke up, it would be easy to forget him but no matter where you went or who you spent time with, it was like you couldnât escape him. itâs why youâve found yourself debating whether you should stay at the bar with your friends or go home after seeing him across the bar with a couple of his friends. Â
your friends had dragged you out after claiming that you were spending far too much time moping around your apartment. it was hard, though. while your relationship with mat was often rocky, which was what lead to the breakup, there was no question that you loved each other.Â
if youâre being honest, you probably still love him.
âhey.â your friend says, pulling you from your thoughts. âstop thinking about him.â
you open your mouth to argue that you werenât, but the look on her face stops you. she would know youâre lying and you really didnât need a lecture from her right now.
âthis bar is full of hot, single and eligible men who arenât lying assholes. pick one of them.â your other friend says. âiâm sure you could have one of them in your bed tonight.â
âi donât-â
âgo.â she says, pushing you gently off the bar stool. âit will get your mind off him.â
if thatâs even possible.
you know that if you take a seat at the bar, a man will eventually approach you and ask to buy you a drink. youâre proven right because not five minutes after you have sat down, a guy sits on the bar next to you and orders a beer and whatever the pretty girl is drinking.
you look at him and while he is cute, you know that all youâre going to do is compare him to Mat like you always do.
âwhatâs a pretty girl like you sitting at the bar by herself?â he asks in a low voice and for some reason, he gives you an uneasy feeling. call it a sixth sense, but youâre getting creepy vibes from him already.Â
you donât answer his question at first, smiling at the bartender when she places your drink in front of you.
âhey, is that an islanders player?â the guys says, and you turn to see a couple of the guys walking in. mat isnât with them and you know this because he arrived earlier with some other friends.
what you donât realize is that mat has been watching you most of the night and while you donât notice, he catches when the guy slips something in your drink.
you turn back and the guy is smiling easily. you know youâll never get over mat if you donât start giving other guys a chance, you smile back and lift your drink. however, before you can take a sip, an arm wraps around your waist and you know without looking that itâs mat.Â
the scent of his cologne and the way his arm holds you is something youâll never forget.Â
you nearly jump out of your skin when you feel him lean down and press his lips to your ear.
âhe just slipped something in your drink.â he mummers quietly and your body goes cold as you realize that the gut feeling you had from the guy was right. you also feel cold at the thought of something happening had mat not seen what happened.
âyouâre interrupting.â the creep snaps, chest puffing out like heâs asking for a fight. mat just wraps his other arm around you and rests his chin on the top of your head.
âyeah, interrupting you trying to roofie my girl.â mat says loudly enough to gain attention. âcan security please escort this asshole out?âÂ
relief washes through you as two large security guards drag him out of the bar. you donât realize youâre shaking until mat pulls you off the stool and holds you as close as possible, leading the two of you out of the bar. he calls and uber and the two of you stand in silence while you wait.
youâre expecting him to take you back to his apartment so youâre surprised when he gives the driver your address. you donât question it though, letting yourself feel comforted in his presence, knowing that tonight is all youâll have with him.
he insists on walking you to your door and even though you know itâs a bad idea, youâre desperate for whatever time you have with him.
âthank you.â you say when you reach your front door. you chance glancing up at him and regret it instantly. his eyes are soft and warm and it just makes you miss him more.
âplease donât look at me like that.â he says quietly and your heart drops.
âlike what?â Â
âlike you still love me.â he says, looking at the ground.
you want to deny his words but you know itâs useless because the both of you know itâs true.Â
âand if i do?â
he sighs, running his fingers through his hair. âitâs a bad idea. we broke up for a reason.â
âyeah. youâre right.â
the silence between the two of you is heavy so you start to open your door but his voice stops you. you donât turn around, letting your hand rest on the doorknob.
âdo you ever think... it was for the wrong reason?â he asks.
âsometimes.â you say, hand gripping the door tighter. you donât know where heâs going with this and you donât know if you want to find out. âwhat difference does it make?â
âdo you ever think about giving it another shot?â he asks, and you hate how his words make your heart leap.
itâs a bad idea. whatâs that saying? never go back to the thing that broke you? you turn to look at him and heâs taken a couple steps towards you like thereâs an invisible string and youâre pulling him towards you.Â
itâs a bad idea but you ask, âdo you?âÂ
âsometimes.â he says truthfully.
âwhat if it doesnât work out?â you question and he shrugs.
âwhat if it does?â

(bc i said i would make a songfic of gnash's song lmao)
t-shirt (by gnash) a 2yeon songfic
faded red short sleeves i can't forget the way you looked without your jeans on
it was their fifth date night, they decided to go to a diner that jeongyeon couldn't stop talking about. she still remembers how she showed up on their usual meet up spot five minutes before the assigned time that they had.
on the second tree to the right of the entrance in the park. she'll never forget that spot.
she still remembers what she wore that night, just a plaid dress with black sleeves and some sneakers. it was not their first time having dinner together but for some reason she was still nervous. she really liked jeongyeon and she didn't really want to give her a reason to dislike her, that maybe she might do something stupid or what.
but all of that was gone when she saw jeongyeon approaching her, wearing a short sleeved black polo with a plain red shirt underneath, some sneakers and jeans. she can recall how much her jaw dropped at the sight. she couldn't tear her eyes out of jeongyeon. while she was ordering food, while she was eating, especially while she was talking. the taller one could melt instantly with nayeon's blazing eyes.
"n-nayeon? is there something on my face?"
"no, you just look so beautiful tonight."
she remembers how jeongyeon blushes, especially when she took her to bed that same night. the loving look that they both have for each other is undeniable, the way they've whispered sweet words to one another, it's indescribable. something like nayeon has never felt in her whole existence.
nayeon's in love. she can feel it. she's already falling hard for the woman.
the morning after, she wore jeongyeon's shirt. it was a bit oversized for her figure, but she didn't mind. she masked in the younger one's scent from the night before. it smells so sweet and floral, a scent she would never ever forget.
-
it's in my drawer and you're all i dream, so i had to let you know you left it here with me it kills me to admit that i still want this bad
that shirt has a different meaning now for nayeon.
every time she opens her closet her head automatically shifts to the left, seeing the same red shirt hanging in the back of the closet. she knows she should just throw it out, in hopes of it being a step on forgetting jeongyeon, but she can't bring herself to do it at all.
she takes the shirt and tries to mask in its scent. it's not the same anymore. it used to smell like lavender, but now, its really nothing. and it hurts nayeon, she wants it to smell like jeongyeon so bad, but at the same time she doesn't want to, the shirt itself is making her hard to forget the the person who used to own the shirt.
it takes her back, remembering how she got the shirt without jeongyeon officially giving it to her in the first place. since that night she started visiting a lot, jeongyeon slowly starting to leave pieces of clothing just in case whenever she stays at nayeon's apartment for the night.
and when the last time jeongyeon stepped into the apartment to collect her things she has left throughout the years, the red shirt was the only one that didn't make it into the box.
nayeon wishes that it was the one that got sent away.
-
and i try to forget all the feelings i had i gave you love and all you did was leave first then you told me that i shouldn't be hurt
she didn't know what happened. they were madly in love, and then it just fell apart.
for three years, they were all over each other. they knew nothing but love each other in a way that only they understand. they bicker a lot, but those were just playful banters, a way to show that they care for one another. they got each other's backs, supported one another. they did everything together, hid nothing from each other. people around them said that they were really a match, the both of them think so too. it was fun, nayeon thinks, that she found someone who was a perfect match for her.
but the fun doesn't really last. a habit of disagreeing every five seconds has grew onto them, at more so being jeongyeon contradicting everything the older woman said. they always found a way to argue with one another, but they always made up for it in a more... intimate way. but that's just all they had. after that no conversations whatsoever. then they repeat everything that happened the next day.
it should've been a red flag. but nayeon is just way head over heels for jeongyeon to even realize it in the first place.
jeongyeon says she still loves nayeon, so there's no problem there, right?
and one night, nayeon realized that it was just all a lie.
"im sorry nayeon, i justâ i just don't love you anymore."
"why? did i do something wrong? do you love someone else? what happened? what's wrong? please, jeong just tell me."
"iâ, i don't know. i got tired."
the words sting for nayeon, even when four months since that night happened. every word just hurt. she didn't know what happened. one day jeongyeon just got... tired? how is that even possible? she told her that she loved nayeon everyday, so was that all made up? nayeon didn't understand. she was confused, angry and heartbroken. she didn't know what to do. the woman that she was dead set to spent her whole life with was just fine with throwing her off to the side instantly. it hurts like hell.
jeongyeon left that night. she left nayeon in her apartment, crying her heart out on the living room floor. and she left nayeon's heart, broken.
nayeon felt weak, and she can still smell jeongyeon's lavender perfume on the shirt she's wearing. its the same red t-shirt that jeongyeon wore on their fifth date together.
she has never felt so much resentment over a damn shirt.
-
i'd burn it in fire if i didn't know the smell i'd bury it six feet deep if that would help
it's not that nayeon didn't try at all, but she did try of getting rid of the shirt. she thought throwing it out, burying it, or even probably setting it on fire. but everytime she opens the closet to do it, she backs out immediately.
she's weak. nayeon is weak. and she fully admits to it.
getting rid of the shirt means that she's getting rid of a person that she really loves so much. she can't get herself to not love jeongyeon anymore, it's not really that easy. she's still in love with her like she was since the day they first met.
she still holds on to that shirt dearly, knowing all the memories they had together with it. even if it's so painful to reminisce, nayeon just can't seem to let go.
she finds herself wearing it at night, trying to let herself feel that jeongyeon's still in the bed with her, hugging her so tight and whispering words that she has been dying to hear again.
she longs for jeongyeon, to have the woman near her, to make her feel safe and make her feel that someone loves her.
nayeon doesn't get to sleep that night. and it's because of that shirt.
-
and maybe this time, everything would be fine so, maybe tonight, we could wrong all our rights so, maybe it's time we should give it a try
nayeon just can't help it, she just wants to see jeongyeon again. for closure? probably. but most likely for asking if they could maybe try again. she's just too weak for the woman, it's not that easy for her to just remove someone very important to her like that, especially jeongyeon.
it has been over five months since they broke up, she decides to visit the cafe that she knows her ex works at. planning just to talk to her, since she can't really shut her mind off about everything. she hopes that at some point, jeongyeon regrets leaving her, that she realizes that she can't live her life without nayeon. she hopes that she's just somehow nervous of calling up nayeon once again.
but, it's really far from what nayeon has hoped for.
from the window of the cafe she sees jeongyeon, smiling and being playful to a co-worker. she recognizes everything that jeongyeon is doing to her co-worker. the way she laughs, stares at her, removes a piece of the co-worker's her and tucked it on the ear. jeongyeon once did that to nayeon. she used to be on that co-worker's place. the one to hear jeongyeon laughing at her stupid jokes, to look at her to endearingly, and fix her hair when it gets onto her face.
jeongyeon's doing it to another woman now. and it hurts like hell.
nayeon backs off once again, going to the nearest park to sit on a bench. the place is all too familiar to her, it's the same park that they would meet up on. and it brings tears into her eyes, flashbacks in her mind coming suddenly. how they were happy together, how they didn't care when they laughed so loud and how they were in their own little world.
and that world is gone now. it's left abandoned, never to be occupied again.
-
something 'bout the way i love you seems cursed but i've learned karma tends to be a b-word so, i hope you get everything you deserve
she has to move on, nayeon finally decides.
she finally figures out that she's being too stupid on trying to fantasize that jeongyeon still loves her. jeongyeon doesn't anymore. she once did, but doesn't anymore. and nayeon tries her best to bury that deep inside her mind.
she realizes the pain that jeongyeon brought to her. when they broke up all nayeon did was blame herself, on where has she gone wrong, on what she can do to mend their relationship back.
jeongyeon was at fault too at some point, nayeon realizes. yet in her eyes at that time the she wouldn't do anything wrong. nayeon feels so stupid, for making herself feel that way, spending months on end feeling so bad about herself and taking all the blame on the failure of their relationship.
a relationship works when two people are involved, yet somehow only nayeon managed to carry the whole thing out.
for the past three years she had fun, she's not going to deny that. but maybe it's only up to that point. it's only for fun. it kind of hurts, honestly. nayeon's always thinking that jeongyeon's going to be the one she'll end up with for a long time. but maybe jeongyeon doesn't really feel that way.
and from the looks of it, jeongyeon's having fun now with another woman. nayeon can't really intervene from that anymore.
nayeon can only hope that she doesn't end up in the way that she did when jeongyeon left her broken hearted that night.

Arthur denying his feelings for reader be like: plays Hercules (1997) - I Wont Say Im In Love
Anon, this one turned out so cute and fluffy, Iâm literally on the verge of death!
Masterlist
Read on AO3
Arthurâs leaning against a tree at the edge of Clemens Point, feeling like a lovestruck idiot. Heâs been watching you for longer than he cares to admit. Despite being the newest member of the gang, youâve continuously surprised him over the past few weeks. It was the obvious stuff at first, the way you wore your hair, the way you talked to people (especially him), how you treated your horse. Now itâs the small things heâs taken notice of. How you brush the hair from your face, how you like to watch the sunrise while drinking your morning coffee.Â
He rubs his hand down his face, knowing he shouldnât get involved with you. Heâs a fool for falling for you in the first place. Not that thereâs anything wrong with you, he thinks, but no one would want his affections. Besides, heâs had too many bad experiences with romantic relationships that itâs just easier to be alone. Heâs still heartbroken about how things ended between him and Mary, and thoughts of Eliza and Isaac still torment him. The last thing he wants is to add you to his list.Â
He crosses his arms, still leaning against the tree and watching you walk across the camp to go and feed the chickens. He watches them gather around your feet, pecking at the grass for the food youâre tossing down. Heâs almost tempted to join your side, to look for any excuse to talk to you. Youâve become close friends after all, talking comes easy. But heâs decided to try and push you away, he canât risk falling for you. Or at least falling for you more than he already has.Â
âHey olâ man, grumpy Morgan!â Sean chuckles, coming towards him. Heâs clearly on guard duty, the repeater in his hands.Â
âWhat you want, boy?â Arthur says, clearing his throat and looking towards the lake, trying to look innocent.Â
âNothinâ. Just wonderinâ when youâs gonna ask that girl out. Yâknow, Karen was tellinâ me the other day how Y/N fancies you. It ainât a secret you fancy her too. Why not just do everyone a favor, take her out?âÂ
âYou donât know what youâre talkinâ about,â Arthur growls. âIt ainât like that between us.âÂ
âOh I can see it all over your face, Morgan. You. Love. Her.âÂ
âYouâre the worldâs biggest fool, Sean. If you know whatâs best for ya, youâll shut your mouth.âÂ
âI knew it, I knew it!â Sean laughs. âYer the most predictable person. Whenever someone says somethinâ about you thatâs true, ya get all defensive and angry. Just do yerself a favor, take that girl out on the town. Hey, if ya need an excuse, I overheard her sayinâ sheâs been missinâ the âforests of West Elizabethâ.â He makes air quotes.Â
Before Arthur can snap at him again, he walks away, chuckling lightly. Arthur sighs and leans further against the tree. Seanâs definitely given him something to think about. The forests of West Elizabeth, he repeats silently. What exactly does that mean? He knows you come from out west and that you prefer it out there, much like himself. Heâs never heard you talk about forests or anything like that.Â
Against his better judgment, Arthur comes up with a plan and decides to bring it to you. Besides, heâd be lying if he didnât want a reason to take you out somewhere alone. Not to try anything, of course, but he enjoys your company. Thereâs something about you that he finds addictive.Â
He walks slowly up to you, wringing his hands a bit. Heâs nervous that youâll see right through him. When he gets close to you, still feeding the chickens, he notices somethingâs wrong. Itâs your energy, you just seem down. Your shoulders sag, as though a weight presses down on you. He clears his throat, catching your attention.Â
âYou aâright?â he asks quietly.Â
Your head snaps up and you look at him. Instantly, the sadness from your face flickers and is replaced by your soft smile. He can tell youâre faking it though.Â
âOh hi, Mr. Morgan. Yeah, Iâm doing just fine. How are you?âÂ
âJust dandy. Hey listen, I was planninâ on goinâ out huntinâ, figured I could use a partner. You wanna come?âÂ
You pause for a moment. Arthur wants to take you hunting? Why? Sure, youâre familiar enough with a bow and a gun to use them, though the results arenât always perfect. Maybe wordâs gotten around camp that you were crying last night. You were just overwhelmed by everything and had to let it out. The mood still lingers. Arthur must be inviting you because he feels obligated to cheer you up. It doesnât help you to feel better. It makes you feel like an even bigger burden since Arthurâs constantly bigger running jobs. Still, you have a hard time finding a reason to say no to him.Â
âSure, Iâll go hunting. I, uh, hope you donât mind dragging me along.âÂ
Your choice of words catches him off guard. Heâd heard nothing about you breaking down the night before but the dimness of your eyes and your words tells him how bad your state is.Â
âDonât mind at all. Would you wanna go now?âÂ
You look over at the setting sun. Itâs nearly gone by this point.Â
âNow?â you ask. âWouldnât it be better to go in the morning when itâs light?âÂ
He huffs a bit. âWell I suppose, if thatâs what you want. Course I donât mind spendinâ a night under the stars. But sure, weâll leave in the morning.âÂ
You feel stupid all of a sudden. Youâve spent plenty of nights in the open, away from camp. Itâs just harder to hunt at night. âMr. Morgan, wait. Wait. I⊠Yes, we can leave now. I donât know why I was being stupid.âÂ
He turns back around at your words. He smiles a bit. âOkay. Iâll uh meet ya by the horses. Five minutes?âÂ
You nod and finish feeding the chickens. You try clearing your head, especially the nasty thoughts swirling around. You donât want to seem like a self-pitying fool around Arthur. Youâve been low-key flirting with him the past couple of weeks and heâs noticeably pulled away from you since. You didnât want to give him another reason to run away.Â
After gathering your things, you meet him by the horses and mount up. The two of you head out at a brisk trot. Arthur starts leading you north along the borders of Flat Iron Lake. You want to ask him where heâs thinking of hunting, but your current mood forces you to keep quiet. No one would want to hear you talk anyways. You start questioning why he even wanted to bring you out in the first place. The only thing you can come up with is that itâs because heâs a good man and he heard you were in need of a friendly face. It makes you feel like even more of a burden.Â
On the northern side of Scarlett Meadows, Arthur pulls to a stop. The sun has set properly now and given way to a nearly full moon. He dismounts and the two of you set up camp. As you sit around the fire, waiting for your meat to finish cooking, he can tell by your eyes that youâre far away. He doubts youâre in a good place. It makes him want to put his arms around you and tell you all the things he feels about you, but he made a promise. He canât tell you.Â
âYou uh want the tent tonight?â he asks. âI can sleep out here tonight.âÂ
âNo, Mr. Morgan. Itâs your tent, you should sleep in it.âÂ
He huffs and smiles a bit. âYa can call me Arthur, miss. Ainât exactly like weâre strangers.âÂ
You smile a bit. âRight, sorry.âÂ
He pulls the meat off the fire and gives you some to eat. When youâre done, he sits next to you. He feels like you just need a friend to help you out, yet he isnât sure how to do it without admitting heâs got feelings for you. You yawn heavily.Â
âYou should get some sleep. Iâll stay up a bit, not quite tired yet.âÂ
Instead of agreeing and getting up to lie in your bedroll, you lean over and put your head on his shoulder. He stiffens up a bit at your touch but itâs such a welcome feeling, he canât pull away. He realizes now that you, like everyone else in camp, have just been overworked and underappreciated in camp. This will be the best medicine for you, getting you away and just taking a break. He wonders again about the phrase âforests of West Elizabethâ. As heâs pondering, heâs also fighting with himself. Nothing would give him more pleasure than to wrap his arm around you or pull you in his lap and hold you against him and watch you sleep. He wonât do that though. He canât do it.Â
As heâs arguing with himself, he hears the softest snore come from you. He smiles when he realizes youâve passed out on his shoulder. He gently picks you up and places you into hsi bedroll in the tent. He covers you with his blanket and then he sits back down by the fire. He smiles a little as he thinks about what could be between you if he were dumb enough to take that chance.Â
***********************************************
In the morning, he notices you seem a little happier, a little more like yourself. Like youâve finally been able to relax a bit and get a good sleep for the first time in days. You talk a bit more, yet he can tell youâre choosing your words carefully, which is unlike you. One of the things he admires about you is that you say what you think, even if itâs brutal. He knows he can trust what you say.Â
You expect him to take you somewhere like the outskirts of Emerald Ranch where game is plentiful. Instead, he keeps leading you west, across the wide mouth of the Dakota River and into West Elizabeth. Seeing the tall pines and green grasses lifts your spirits greatly and you feel like you can take your first proper breath in weeks.Â
Arthur can see the visible change in you, how your eyes begin to light up again. You smile more easily and start talking more. He notices you even make some of your light jokes. Heâs always liked your jokes, cheesy as some of them are. Youâve got a natural sense of humor he finds endearing. He thinks to take you to Big Valley, but something tells him itâs not enough. He needs to take a bigger risk with you.Â
After arriving at Lake Owanjilla, he pauses. He knows where he wants to take you, but itâs incredibly dangerous. Not because the land but because of where it lies. He just hopes that no one will see the pair of you and if they do, they wonât connect the dots.Â
âCome on, weâre almost there,â he says and he kicks his horse into an easy trot. You follow him across the dam, down the trail and over the river. You wonder what heâs up to as you enter Tall Trees. You know the risks of going anywhere this close to Blackwater. Word is bounty hunters and Pinkertons have gathered here like flies to a rotting corpse. You want to tell him itâd be wiser to go back, but something tells you to not question him. That he knows what heâs doing.Â
After a while longer, Arthur slows his horse down. Youâre in the thick of Tall Trees, the pines growing high above your heads. The world has turned from green to red with speckles of blue and purple. Youâve always loved Tall Trees, the tall red pines and the green ferns growing between them. The smell is indescribable, addictive. Somewhere hidden in the trees, a squirrel begins to bark.Â
Arthur looks back at you and grins. You donât see him as youâre busy gazing at the trees. He can tell that this was exactly what you needed, despite the obvious dangers. He keeps leading you down the trail until the trees break and give way to a small lake nestled in the bowl of the mountains. This is where he finally stops and dismounts. You do as well, though youâre still staring around like a complete moron. You finally turn to him and give him a genuine smile, which makes his knees feel weak.Â
âArthur, this is beautiful. But⊠what are we doing here?âÂ
He shrugs his shoulders. âJust seemed like this would be a good place to come and⊠fish.âÂ
âFish?â you giggle. âYou came here to fish?âÂ
âSure, why not? Hear thereâs a real nice bass livinâ in this lake. Figure if anyoneâs gonna catch him, might as well be me.âÂ
âNot if I catch him first!â you shoot and run towards the water. He calls to you and chases after you, the two of you laughing madly. You reach a broken pier first and pull out your rod. âBeat you, Arthur!âÂ
âOh trust me, sweetheart, runninâ ainât fishinâ. Weâll see in the end whoâs the real winner.âÂ
The two of you cast out and slowly pull your lures back. With the sun beating down and the wind carrying the intoxicating smell of the forest, you couldnât be happier. You can practically feel the black cloud thatâs been hovering over you getting drawn out, like venom from a snake.Â
Arthurâs line gets tugged hard and he yanks back his pole, setting the hook. âOoh I got somethinâ.âÂ
âWell pull it in, quick!âÂ
You watch him fight with the fish and then he pulls out a beautifully colored bass. You laugh and pat his shoulder.Â
âHeâs a beauty! Good catch, Arthur. Guess you won this round.âÂ
He chuckles and wraps the fish up before putting it into his satchel. âYeah, guess I did.âÂ
For the next hour, the two of you fish a little more, bringing out multiple trout and bass. Then, just when you think the two of you might be able to get away with staying here for a long while, you hear, echoing across the water, voices. It sounds like a small group of men. Your heart drops at the thought of bounty hunters. Thereâs no doubt in your mind they might be scouring Tall Trees. Itâs the perfect place for a gang to hide, after all.Â
âThink weâve outstayed our welcome,â Arthur says and collapses his pole. You do the same and then you both swiftly remount your horses and run off from the lake, avoiding the path. Over the next half hour, you dodge between trees and carefully navigate around the steep drops of the mountain until you hit the trail right above Owanjilla. There, you make your way across the river and into safe lands again. Arthur leads you over to the north end of the lake where he finally dismounts.Â
âWell that was a fine outing, Mr. Morgan,â you say, patting your horseâs neck from the ground.Â
âSure. Well, figure we can hunt here the next couple of days. Know thereâs plenty of game in Big Valley.âÂ
You nod and smile at him. âYeah. But tell me: did you really take me there for a fish?âÂ
He blushes a bit and hides his head beneath his hat. âWell⊠well no. I known the fish was there a long time, but I didnât go for it. I just thought you could use the fresh air.âÂ
This makes you laugh. âArthur, I can get fresh air in plenty of places that have fewer risks.âÂ
He blushes more. âI know. But⊠well, I wonât lie to ya. I figured the place could do you some good. Heard you were tellinâ Karen you missed it and you seemed down the last couple of days. Just thought I might be able to help.âÂ
You smile at him, your eyes glittering. âThank you, Arthur. Youâve no idea how much it helped.â You lean up and place a soft kiss to his cheek. He grins, his cheek burning. You look away and say youâre going to go and hunt. He lies by saying heâs going to try and fish a bit more.Â
When youâre out of sight, Arthur sits down on a boulder. âWhat is the matter with me? Ya think a miserable outlaw like myself would learn. Morgan, you have the worldâs best record of beinâ the biggest fool.âÂ
He sits there for some time, arguing with himself. He canât love you, but he canât help being in love. A voice in his head asks whatâs the worst that could happen by just letting himself feel what heâs already feeling for you. He argues back by using Mary and Eliza as examples.Â
âBut she isnât Eliza or Mary,â the voice says. âSheâs Y/N and in completely different circumstances than they were. She knows how to protect herself, sheâs been robbed and shot at before and came out alive in all those situations.â
âNo no no,â he says. âSheâll come to realize Iâm a fool like Mary did. Iâll mess things up and sheâll hate me for it.âÂ
âShe already knows youâre a fool. Sheâs seen your crazy side, she knows how scary you can get. More than once, in fact, and sheâs still around isnât she? Mary saw that side one time and she ran off running. Y/Nâs different. Never once has she asked you to change or to control yourself.âÂ
âItâs a dumb move!â Arthur says. âI ainât in love with her nor am I ever gonna be in love with her! She deserves someone better.âÂ
The voice is a bit quieter this time. âIt seems like itâs too late for her. You saw the way she looked at you in Tall Trees. Sheâs already got it for you.âÂ
âWell, sheâs a bigger fool than I thought for doinâ that.âÂ
âNo doubt. But if you leave her like this, sheâs not going to wait around forever. She doesnât deserve that either.âÂ
Arthur sighs. He knows you donât deserve him playing you the way heâs been lately. âWell fine,â he says to the voice in his head. âI love her. I love Y/N, but I ainât sayinâ it out loud.âÂ
********************************************
Night has fallen and you and Arthur are sat around the campfire again, nestled in Big Valley. Youâre leaning your head against his shoulder once more like you did the night before. Arthurâs arguing with himself again. He knows he loves you but heâs still unsure if he should act on it. To act on it would be to admit it.Â
âArthur?â you say, breaking him out of his thoughts.Â
âHmm?âÂ
âThank you again for today. I⊠can I tell you something?âÂ
âOf course.âÂ
âIâve been real sad lately. Donât know why, but my brain keeps telling me Iâm a burden on everyone, Iâm merely tolerated. But going back to that lake helped me feel centered again. Like going home. I know that doesnât make any sense.âÂ
He smiles a bit. âNo it makes perfect sense. And for the record: you ainât a burden or tolerated. People in camp like you, darlinâ. You should hear Jack tell his mama about your stories. Sounds like you been helpinâ Mary-Beth too. And you were the first person to get Karen to stop drinkinâ the other day. Canât tell you how long we been tryinâ to help her quit.âÂ
âReally?â you ask, looking up at him. âAnd⊠and what about you? I know you only took me out today because you heard I needed a pick-me-up.âÂ
âNo, no that ainât the reason,â he says. âI didnât know you needed help until we were away from camp. Like I said, you ainât a burden. You work hard, I see that in camp. Work as hard as anyone else and eight times as much as Uncle.âÂ
You giggle a bit.
âPoint is, me and everyone else who counts sees how much you work in camp. We notice. I know we donât voice our appreciations, especially olâ Grimshaw, but it doesnât mean we donât see it.âÂ
You surprise him by grabbing the hand on his knee and squeezing it lightly. He knows at this moment he canât hold back any longer. He withdraws his hand and your heart sinks. Youâve crossed a line. Youâre about to pull away from his shoulder until you feel him shifting himself and his hand winds over your hip. He pulls you into his lap and you settle your head on his chest.Â
Arthurâs heart pounds hard in your ears. Heâs wanted to do this for so long with you, imagined doing this. Heâs held women like this to him before so he knows what it feels like, but this is different. Youâre different. You fit against him like a puzzle piece, perfectly molded to him. Youâre warm and it feels so good the way you wrap your arms around him. He kisses your hairline and settles his chin to your forehead.Â
After a few moments, he feels you place a soft kiss to his chest. It makes him smile and he holds you tighter.Â
âArthur?â you say, looking up at him.
âHmm?âÂ
âI think I love you,â you say quietly. He swallows heavily. âWell I hope so. Because⊠I know I love you.âÂ

@foxwulder asked: im interested in your answer to this. what do you think mulder was like at college, socially. give me all of your headcanon on this.
yeah idk why but every time i sit down to write headcanons, i end up writing an essay that could be true like none of it is grounded in. Anything
his first year, he was incredibly involved in his studiesâobsessive almost. there isnât a part of fox mulder that doesnât love learning anything that he can get his grubby little goblin hands on. he would keep to himself, shy. quiet.
he spent a lot of time on his own. his apartment was just outside of campus, so he would spend mornings walking to class not quite seeing everything around him. if it was especially cold, he would stop and get some coffee at his favourite cafĂ© on the corner of the cobblestone street where the door creaked when you opened it and the bell rang a little too loudly and the coffee was just a little too hot. every time he went there, the barista would see him coming from down the road and she would have his cup made before he walked in. he would smile kindlyâawkwardly charming, almostâat the her and his hands would shake a little as he was counting out the change and he would comment on the weather like it was unusual, but the weather in oxford changes once a year and the barista would just smile in amusement and say see you tomorrow green eyes, and mulder would blink and rub the back of his neck and say see you tomorrow coffee girl. their interactions were short and limited to the five minutes he could spare on his walk, but sometimes he would bring her book recommendations or random fun facts that he learned from his school reading. it was small ritual, but it was but it was a great comfort that made him feel less alone.
he met his first real friends in one of his beginner psychology classes. mulder always sat in the second rowâhe thought that the first row was for the people who wanted to show off too much, and he thought the back of the room was for the people that didnât care at all. he considered himself right in the middle and showed it in where he sat. it seemed that a lot of people felt the same way, because the entire row was empty save for him and two guys and a girl. there as a sort of unofficial official seating chart camaraderie. the boy next to him wore the same three wrinkled button up shirts in various shades of green and layered them with old sweaters with holes in them. the other boy was always put togetherâno matter if he got two hours of sleep or twelve. he wore designer suits in every shade and pattern imaginable. he never wore a tie but always brought a baseball cap to class, worn and old and stained. the girl recorded every lecture on her cassette player and transcribed them every night. her notes were detailed and organized and covered in coffee rings from the late nights. they were a group of ragtag kidsârelics from different cultures cobbled together to create a beautiful sculpture.
since the first day of class, the boy with messy clothes and a charming grin would always come to class with no pen and no paper, and disarm mulder with his shy eyes and say hey man, can I borrow some? and mulder knew there was now borrowing, he was never getting it back but he couldnât say no. he bought notebooks for him and cases of pens but he wouldnât take them and so mulder just kept them in his bag and took them with him wherever he went. originally their interactions never went past that. it became their own unspoken languageâa habitual tradition that followed them in everything they did.
this also means that whenever there was group work, which was quite often in a behavioral class, the four would always be assigned together. at first they would just meet in the library or sit on the lawn with the sun peaking out from behind the clouds, focusing only on the task at hand. the three of his classmates would mess around and mulder would through in a witty comment here and a sharp retort there, but he never told much about himself. all they really knew about him was that he was the american boy with messy hair, pretty eyes, and an unusually lanky frame. he wasnât cold, but he wasnât inviting. he didnât want to get attached and lose more that he loved.
the more they were forced together, the more that mulder started accepting that he deserved happinessâthat he didnât have to push others away. that he deserved to be loved. they moved from libraries to his favourite cafĂ© and from the lawn to the floor in someones apartment. they moved from homework to movies and witty anecdotes to stories. it was the first time that he had ever told anyone what happened to sam. they didnât laugh, they didnât ridicule. they told him that if anyone could bring her back it would be him.
every friday night, they would go to the indian food restaurant around the corner from his apartment and they would order half of the menu. they would laugh and argue about movies and psychoanalyse each other. they would be a little too loud and they would stay a little too long after closing and they would tip a little too much to make up for it, but they felt more at home in that restaurant than they ever did with their parents.
coming from old money in new england, the way that mulder was raised to appreciate people was through gifts. originally, he would buy sweaters new shoelaces or new wheels for his skateboard. he would buy mr perfect the ugliest ties he could find. he would buy the curly haired girl blank cassette tapes and hand-crafted mugs. but somewhere along the way, he wanted to give a part of himself to them to remember him by. he would hang out at the skatepark with sweaters at two in the morning. he would play soccer with mr perfect even though, if he had any choice, he would rather die than pick soccer over baseball.
it would be the small things. the way the curly haired girl would throw her straw wrappers at mulder when he told a bad joke. the way that sweaters threw his arm around his shoulder and leaned in like he was going to tell him the worldâs greatest secretâthe key to the universe. the way mr perfect would invite him to museum parties that his family forced him to go to, and the way that they would sneak off to the roof to watch the stars. listening to music as they counted the constellations. reading psychology books aloud. coming up with stupid conspiracies and trying to convince the other person that it was true. having paper airplane races. going to france for a weekend and trying every coffee place they could. trying recipes from thrift-store cookbooks that they ruin and end up ordering takeout. someone finding a small sunflower and giving it to him and him saying, we both know exactly what is wrong here. road trips to the countryside where there was a ufo sighting.
his greatest friendships in college were built on admiration and annoyance and fate and love.
at some point, people started to notice mulder. maybe it was his wild hair or his bright smile or his ringing laughter. maybe it was the way that he always kept his word or was always there for you if you needed to talk. everyone seemed to know him. he would say hello in passing to kids on campus and help you out in the library if you needed. but his focus was always on his friendsâhis family. outside of them, he had a couple friends maybeâacquaintances. people he would sit next to in other classes, someone doing peer review. fleeting.
it wasnât that he avoided making other friendships, but it was that the bond between the four of them ran deep. they knew everything about each otherâhow crispy they liked the crust on their bread, how dark or light they like their coffee, whether or not they looped the end when they wrote a y, the way their eyes light up when they think of a comeback, the twitch of their eyebrows when they hear something that annoys them. it was nothing that you could learn from reading a book, but things only resulting from years of intensive study and firsthand experience. for every connection in their circle, one was a primary source and the other was a historian pouring over ever wrinkle and stain on the page.
however, when he met phoebe, things started going downhill. she would monopolize his time and steal him away from his family. she drove a wedge between them. it was his first real taste of betrayalânot his friends walking out on him, but someone who he loved driving them away. there was no more of the pure happiness that he felt with them. it felt wrong to take her to the places that they went together. he couldnât eat indian food. he hated france. he bought everything new, nothing used.
it was like he was back to square one, almost: keeping to himself, shy. quiet.

New Tune: Part 1 (Jake Kiszka x Reader)
Summary: Two guitarists meet at a Rock Festival, only having a week with each other before they have to return to their own lives. The bond they create is unfeigned and resolute.Â
 WC: 1.7k
Warnings: Cursing and drinking
Hello! This is the first series iâve done in years! And iâm honestly really excited about it. The title is cheesy and probably wont make sense till the last chapter, but its a heartfelt story. I know its a short first chapter but we are just getting started. I really hope you guys like it!Â
The rush of performing is worryingly amazing. Just playing for hundreds of people who all share the love of music harmoniously together in one room is even something magical in itself. But playing the music that joins us together? Its indescribable, and its why I fucking love my job. I get to do that almost every night for hundreds of different people. The thing I love most is just being able to jam onstage with my best friends, and creating music with them. Most of our songs are created through our live shows, and itâs all 100% us in every performance. Not what our managers think will make the most money or sell out the most shows, but itâs exactly what we want to create. Fucking Rock and Roll.
Which is what we are doing now, at some random festival in California just trying to play some fucking music. We were lucky enough to get on the roster at all, first of all our name isn't too well known yet and we play a bit heavier than the people on the setlist as is. It's all of course Rock, but there is a fair share of indie and folk thrown in for good measure.Â
We more play psychedelic rock? I guess thatâs the way you could describe it, lots of fuzz, delay effects, and weird ass lyrics that could make Jim Morrison say âWhat the fuck?â Luckily our manager was friends with the event coordinator and squeezed our name in last minute. I honestly donât think we are even on the Lineup.Â
âHey fuckface! Come help me with this keg!â Screamed the Lead Vocalist to our band, but also my best friend, Matt.Â
I looked up from my phone to see the exasperated boy doing his best to get it up the stairs of the tour bus, but failing miserably. I get up from my spot to attempt to help move the heavy keg from the base of the stairs.Â
âA keg? What are we in high school? I mean yes, we could very easily drink our way through this, but wouldnât cases of beer just be easier?â I asked, also struggling to get it up the stairsâÂ
âI mean⊠Where's the fun⊠In that?â He said, pausing in between his words to lift the heavy thing.Â
We finally got it to the top, both letting out a whoosh of air before going to fall back on the couches in exhaustion. We sat in silence, settling with the fact that we were both extremely out of shape despite doing countless shows. WHich honestly in itself is a huge work out.Â
âAlright! Up we go, itâs up here so letâs get this party started before we die of exhaustion.â
Matt hopped up quicker than expected and grabbed the valve for the keg off the counter.
âNow that. Is a fantastic idea.â He pushed a filled cup and then filled his own. We clinked our drinks and threw them back, both easily swallowing it all.Â
âLet's get absolutely fucked.â Matt said, emphasizing the word fucked. "Wait..." I half questioned. "If our thing is drinking outside, then why are we putting the keg in here?"Â
He gave me a blank stare and then dropped his head in shame.Â
"Fuck."Â
Jakes POV
âJake I swear to god if you donât walk faster I'm going to steal that guitar of yours and add my own special touch to it.âÂ
âWell calm down and slow your pace, and then I'll catch up. And Honestly josh, I don't even want to think of what you'd do to my girl.âÂ
Josh suddenly slowed down and got right into my space, and then very animatedly started to explain how he would decorate her.Â
âI'm sure you remember that one very fun tambourine I had at that one show. You know, the one with all the tassels.â
âMhm, That one tambourine from that one show.â I absentmindedly replied, not really paying attention to his whole show.
More taking in all the surroundings of all the buses around us, housing all the artists playing throughout the week. Josh and I have a habit of doing this at every festival weâve been too, which wasn't much, but it was enough to create the tradition. These were always fun to go to, meet different musicians and wind down for a week. Festivals were always fun simply because we could take a real break. We tend to get a bit overrun with tour dates because of management, but here we play once or twice, and spent the rest of the week doing press or enjoying ourselves. We all honestly looked forward to it.Â
Josh suddenly stopped talking about his favorite tambourines and said, âWhat was that?âÂ
We wandered around with a bit more direction lightly following the voices that bounced off of all the buses.
I stopped to listen and heard two people very aggressively discussing what seemed to be Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn. As we kept walking, we started to hear them more clearly.Â
The girl yelling âHonestly Matt, If you tell me right now, that your prefer Stevie over Jimi Iâm fucking leaving this band.âÂ
âY/N, I prefer Stevie.â
After that the man, presumably Matt, said that all hell had broken loose and swears and counter arguments were thrown left and right.Â
Josh seemed very interested in the whole scene and did his best to follow the voices so he could find the source. I was honestly pretty interested myself.Â
We finally rounded a corner to find two, seemingly, very drunk people intensely arguing while still half laying down in the lawn chairs they had set out in front of their bus. A keg sat between them, and a stack of red solo cups on top. Nothing but a lantern and the moon keeping them alight.
âSure, we all love Stevie, heâs a chill dude. But Jimi? He ascended. He fucking made music. He created most of what Stevie played. I honest to god, Matt, will physically fight you.âÂ
The girl caught my eye when we rounded the corner, and very aggressively pointed at me.Â
âYou, long haired pretty boy in the Chelsea boots. Come here.âÂ
I looked over at josh and we seemed more than happy to see what this random stranger had up her sleeve. He kind of pushed my shoulder forward so we could make our way over to them. I had no idea what to expect.Â
She sat up in her chair and Matt stayed unmoving, still half laying in his chair.Â
âWhich is better? And there is a right and wrong answer. Stevie Ray Vaughn or Jimi Hendrix.â She glared at the Matt when she said Jimi's name, he seemed unbothered.Â
âI mean Jimi is the obvious here, any guitarist would agree.â
âHa! Fuck you Matt Im right, its just factually true. Suck. My. Dick.â
âWell heâs one random guy that doesn't answer the whole mystery.â Matt slurred.
Josh quickly butted into the conversation, which isn't new.Â
âWell if my opinion has any weight than I vote for Jimi, but speaking of strangers. Im Josh, and this here is my twin, Jakeyâ
âIts Jake.âÂ
The mood quickly changed and a smile appeared on the girls face. She held out her hand and gave a quick but firm handshake, introducing herself.
âThe name is Y/N, and this Ignorant bastard is named Matt.â
She reached over to the keg in between them and refilled her cup, then poured two more for Josh and I.Â
âFor my two new friends.â She smiled, handing the cups to us. We happily accepted, and Josh made his way to sit on the ground in front of them, I quickly followed.
âAlright boys, Name your band and then instruments, seeing as were here and all.â She said gesturing to the place.
Josh quickly spoke first âWell we are two halves of Greta Van Fleet, and I sometimes play vocals, occasional screams, but mostly tambourines.â He joked.
Y/N snorted at Josh's introduction.Â
âAnd you?â she asked directing her attention to me.Â
âAs Josh said, two halves of our band Greta Van Fleet, And I play Lead Guitar.â
Her eyes seemed to light up at that comment and quickly responded with a smile.
â Isn't that a coincidence, so do I,âÂ
As the night went on the booze flowed more, and so did the conversation. We all quickly learned we had a lot in common, and got along pretty damn well. Matt wasn't very present, because, well, he passed out moments after we got there. But as the night went on, the more we all truly felt comfortable with each other. It was simply one of those times in your life when you meet someone you truly feel akin too. Maybe it was because we were all drunk, or maybe it was a fluke. Her love for music dripped off of every word she spoke, she just gave off positivity and confidence, and her passion for life and work truly shined through. She consistently listened to us throughout the night, less worried about discussing her personal life. She seemed genuinely interested in every little thing Josh and I had to say.
It felt like we were there for all of five minutes, but before we knew it, it was 4 am. By that point so much random shit was coming out of our mouths that it wasn't coherent. Eventually Josh and I helped her round Matt onto the bus and said our quick goodbyes before we left.Â
As we walked back, Josh's already never ending smile seemed brighter, seeming touched the domestic events of the night.Â
âI really like her, Jakey.âÂ
A smile was growing on my face as well, though ever so slightly more subtle.
âI did too, Josh.âÂ
We eventually stumbled our way back onto our own bus, not bothering to change before hopping into our bunks. It would've been pitch black if it weren't for the dim blue lights under the seats. In the bunks next to ours were Danny and Sam, sleeping pretty soundly in their own. Lucky for us they can sleep through anything. Especially Sam.
I heard a loud thump, looking over to see josh sitting on his ass and looking more grumpy.
âFuckin bunks are so high up. I swear to godâŠâ
He eventually got up, mumbling to himself angrily before eventually climbing up and falling asleep.
I laid restless in my own, sleep seeming unlikely for the night. My mind could only focus on the enigma that was the girl we had the pleasure of meeting. So I just laid in my bunk, staring at the low ceiling, mind unfocused on anything except what just happened.

religious disbelief josh balz x reader
+++++++++ The end is a little darker than I meant it to be đŹ
this is my first time ever writing for balz so if it sucks im sorry. also its broken into parts, the beginning is the beginning of the school year and the other two parts are after graduation.
im making a balz one with a similar concept and completely different outcome so if this one was bad or hard to read that one will be much more light hearted I promise.

i walked down the sidewalk shoulder to shoulder with my best friend. josh and i had known each other for what felt like forever, only recently had it turned into something more than a friendship though. i laughed at what he had said to me.
"i told you once, ill tell you a thousand times. the day i decide to get on that two wheeled death machine is the day i decided you can take me away from this town."
i hated his motorcycle just as much as i hated the thought of moving away. i was kind of scared of both to be honest. everything i knew was here, especially him and i didnt want that to change. he nudged my arm with his.
"im telling you, youd be perfectly safe riding with me. but if your stakes are getting you out of this town i will gladly find every excuse."
i shook my head at him.
"you know i dont want to leave."
he sent me a look.
"come on y/n you cant really want to stay here all your life do you? i mean, whats holding you back, your parents? me? hell ill be gone in a year anyways."
i frowned at him.
"and you would just leave without me? given that we're still together at that point that is."
he looked a little offended.
"you planning on leaving me by graduation in the spring?"
i laughed with him.
"of course not silly, im just thinking ahead. if you leave, what am i gonna do? we all know itll take an act of god to get me outta here. even if i did decide to leave on my own my parents would never let me."
he smirked at me.
"true about the parents, but maybe we need an act from something a little darker than God."
he winked at me and i shook my head at him as we walked up the stairs to my house.
"yeah keep saying that and you wont be able to come over anymore. ever since my parents found out you listen to metal music theyve added you to the prayer list at our church."
we both laughed a little at that. he took my hand in his.
"oh come on, when are you gonna stop going? we both know you hate organized religion, and you listen to metal too."
i giggled a little bit.
"just imagine if my parents knew about my tattoo."
i said quietly. he hugged me to him and kissed me gently.
"i think theyd burn it off you, your dad would at least."
he smiled down at me, pushing my hair away from my face as the wind blew it around. i raised my brows.
"wouldnt that be something."
he kissed me again. then there was a knock on the living room window that made me jump. i turned around to see me mom knelt on the couch watching us. josh waved at her condescendingly, making me laugh.
"dont provoke her."
i turned back to him and he kissed my forehead.
"ill see you later. we've gotta work on that science project after all."
he winked at me as he turned and walked down the steps to my house. when he was almost to the sidewalk he turned around and walked backwards, waving goodbye to me.
"i love you."
he called to me and i smiled widely at him.
"i love you too!"
i watched him for a second before opening my front door and greeting my mom with a smile.
"how was work?"
i asked as i made my way to the stairs.
"work was fine, just tired, i wanted to wait for you to get home before i went to bed though. its nice being able to see you everyday now, not just on weekends."
i held onto the stair rail as i turned to her.
"well im glad i get to see you everyday now too, even if it is just for a little bit. ill probably start dinner about five thirty before dad gets home."
she nodded.
"okay sweetie."
°°°°°°°°°
i stood in front of my mirror and nervously shook my hands out. graduation was finally over and we had gone back to the house for me to change before the school led lock-in for the graduates. i wasnt nervous about the lock-in though, i was worried about my parents realizing that josh would be there too. they barely liked him at the beginning of the school year and as much time as we spent together since my parents were getting more and more infuriated with him. it also didnt help that he liked to take them to the edge on almost everything, arguing and getting on their nerves as much as he possibly could. i was shaken from my thoughts when my mom knocked on my bedroom door.
"you ready baby? you dont wanna be late."
i nodded and picked my bag up off the floor.
"yep, we can go."
i looked in my bag one last time to make sure i had everything, phone, playing cards, medication, water bottle, the likeness. when we hit the bottom of the stairs my dad looked up at me over the newspaper he was reading in the low light of our living room.
"where did you get that shirt?"
he asked and i looked down at it. shit. i had gotten it from josh.
"uh, a friend."
he raised a brow at me.
"have i met this friend? surely not i suppose if they are giving you clothing with satanic symbols on it."
he looked over at my mom who was now wearing a frown too.
"do you have time to change?"
he asked and i looked down at the time on my phone.
"no daddy, im already late."
i said in my best pouty voice. normally that worked, he couldnt resist the charms of his little girl. i watched him fold the newspaper up and set it on the couch next to him.
"fine but when we pick you up in the morning its going in the trash."
i walked to him and kissed him on the cheek.
"okay daddy."
i followed my mom to the door and out to the car. when we were buckled in she took off towards school. i looked down at my phone and opened a message to josh.
"what are you wearing?"
i hit send, a second later he texted me back.
"am i supposed to say nothing?"
i tried to suppress a laugh and just shook my head.
"no dork, im wearing one of your shirts and i need to change into something less 'metal'"
i hit send again and waited. then i got a new message.
"sorry babe, i dont think thats gonna happen."
then i got the picture of him in another shirt with the same band on it. i breathed deeply and sent him back an 'okay.' when i looked up we were already pulling into the schools parking lot.
"when are we supposed to be getting you again?"
my mom asked as i stood out of the car. i leaned down and looked at her.
"uh dont worry about it mom, its super early so im just gonna have someone else bring me home."
i looked across the car, through her window at joshs motorcycle. damn him. i turned my attention back to her.
"okay baby, well ill see you tomorrow then."
"thanks mom."
i said, closing the door and walking into the school. as i walked up to the table to get my bag checked i noticed josh standing in the back next to one of the vending machines. A second later my phone buzzed. it was a text from him asking where i was. i smiled to myself, thanking the counselor for giving my bag back and walked quickly to him.
"im right here."
i said making him jump and clutch at his chest.
"jesus y/n you scared the shit out of me!"
i laughed and took his hand in mine, kissing his cheek.
"i think thats a small price to pay for bringing your motorcycle."
he blushed and gave me his best sorry face.
"i forgot?"
he said trying to play it off. i just shook my head at him.
"its whatever, ill grill you tomorrow when we leave."
he smiled at me.
"okay."
i squeezed his hand in mine.
"come on, i wanna see what all they had planned, i heard there was supposed to be a magician."
he laughed as me as i dragged him down the hall towards the gym.
"sure babe."
°°°°°°°°°
i held onto josh tightly as he pulled up in front of my house. i knew my parents would probably be awake already, dad at least getting ready for work. the sound of the motorcycle wouldnt be any help though. i stood up off of it and took my helmet off, swinging my hair out. josh took his off too.
"you want me to wait a minute before leaving?"
i looked back at my house, the sun barely peaking over our fence, it was still so early. I looked back at him.
"i was gonna say no, but maybe."
he nodded.
"text me when its safe to leave."
he winked at me and i kissed him gently.
"thanks for bringing me home."
i pushed my helmet into his hands and walked up to my front door, pushing it open. i was surprised it wasnt locked. i looked around for a second, seeing no one and ascending the stairs. when i moved to go to my room i heard my parents door creak.
"shirt."
my dad demanded. i turned to look at him and sent him a nervous smile.
"daddy can i at least change first? i just walked in the door."
he looked kinda mad. i knew i shouldnt have let josh bring me home on the bike. he held his hand out.
"shirt."
i frowned at him.
"okay just give me a second."
i stepped into my room and went to close the door but he pushed it back open.
"give me that damn shirt before i have to rip it off of you."
"cant i change by myself?"
he went to grab for it but i pushed him away.
"you got it from that no good josh kid didnt you? thats the friend. You know how we feel about him."
he said sternly.
"daddy hes my boyfriend."
he tried to grab at me again, holding the shirt firmly by the collar.
"i told you to stop seeing him. hes no good for you, especially if hes pushing you further and further away from god."
he moved his other hand up to tear the shirt but i held his hands in place.
"what is so wrong with that?!"
i shouted, eyes closing tightly. he paused for a second and i only opened my eyes back up when he let me go.
"how dare you say that in this house! if you are going to live under my roof you are going to love and respect the lord that built it."
"the lord didnt build shit! and maybe i dont wanna stay in this house anymore!"
he was fuming now.
"fine! you wanna go to hell? then you can fuck your boyfriend right to the gates of it, tell the devil kiss my ass while youre at it!"
he shouted at me, turning on his heel and storming out of my room. i breathed heavily for a second before looking outside. josh was still sat on his motorcycle out front, looking between his phone and the house. then i got an idea. i grabbed a bag from under my bed and started shoving shit in it, anything i could find. my favorite shirts, socks, undergarments, pants, money, anything id need. when it was full i slung it over my head, shoved my phone charger into my purse/bag that i still had on from the lock-in and stormed out of my room too. when i hit the end of the stairs i was met with my father sat on the couch, angrily putting on his work boots.
"where do you think youre going?"
he said a little snarky. i gripped my bag tightly.
"if you dont want a non believer living under your roof then ill find somewhere else to live."
i walked quickly to the door and just as i opened it he grabbed me by the hair, pulling me back.
"or maybe you just need an attitude adjustment."
he pulled me back and i reached out.
"let go of me!"
i practically yelled. i could hear him breathing heavily.
"you will learn to love and respect the lord as well as the family he has put before us. if you wont do it willingly, then ill make you."
"is that really a good idea?"
i heard josh say and i looked over at him standing in the doorway. my dad pushed me away from him.
"look at what youve done! youve corrupted my little girl! she's a satanist because of you!"
i ran to josh and he held me tightly to his side, he looked down at me as tears fell from my eyes.
"sir, in all due respect she has never once praised the devil. i would know, im the only one she hangs out with when shes not at home."
my dad looked beyond mad.
"if anything id say you pushing the lord down her throat her whole life has made her denounce your religion. so maybe you should be looking at yourself, not me."
my dad started after us and i pushed josh out the door, slamming it behind me. it swung open as we ran down the sidewalk to joshs bike.
"get back here you little shit!"
Josh jumped on first, starting it up and handing me my helmet.
"drive!"
i shouted as my dad got closer. next thing i new we were booking it down the street. i just held myself tightly to josh, resting my head on his back as tears fell heavily from my eyes. when we were a few streets over he stopped. i sat up and took my helmet off.
"you okay?"
he asked, holding his own helmet against him and looked at me very concerned. i sniffled and wiped my face.
"i am now. but i wanna get as far away from here as possible."
he looked between my eyes.
"are you sure?"
i nodded quickly.
"please josh, just take me somewhere safe. somewhere i dont have to deal with this anymore. wherever its just me and you."
he kissed me gently, pulling away and resting his forehead against mine.
"ill take you wherever you wanna go."
i pulled away and nodded at him.
"I love you josh."
I leaned forward and hugged him to me, feeling him kiss the top of my head.
"I promise I'll keep you safe."

i am in need of some hs!crĂŒe just helping out Vince with his dyslexia and being really supportive and calming him down when he gets frustrated so if ya ever get the chance Iâd love u forever đđ thanks
jesus christ anon im so sorry everything went terribly wrong and i ended up with angst again and i donât know why it happens i really tried to write fluff!! i guess im just not really in the state for the fluff now. i will post what i wrote here anyway because i spent three sleepless nights on this but itâs not what you asked for :(
Vince let out an exasperated sigh and threw the pencil onto the table. It bounced off it and rolled under the couch. Tommy bended down to pick it up, but it was out of his reach.
âI canât do this anymore,â Vince announced, leaning back onto his chair and hiking his feet up on the table. âIâm fucking tired.â
âTell Mick that when youâll be making excuses for your test results.â Nikki looked up from the notebook where he was scribbling something for the past half an hour. He and Tommy had already finished their homework and were enjoying themselves, leaving Vince to fight with goddamned chemistry alone.
âHeâll understand.â Vince tried to sound confident and failed miserably. Tomorrow was Friday, and another meeting with Mick, and maybe getting to rehearse a couple of The Stonesâ songs he showed them last week. Given, of course, that Vince scored more than 90% on his tomorrow chemistry test.
Which at the moment seemed pretty much impossible.
âOf course, he will.â Nikki nodded, a little too condescending to sound natural. âAnd, understanding everything, he wonât let you in until you bring him an A.â
âThanks for keeping me updated, mate, I would never know that myself,â Vince couldnât help but snap, irritation that had been building up in his chest jumping up from mild to high in a matter of seconds.
âIâd let you copy it if we werenât always given different variants,â Tommy sighed, threw his drumstick in the air and promptly caught it. Heâd been switching between running up- and downstairs to bring snacks to the room, spinning his drumsticks and trying to peek at Nikkiâs lyrics for the last couple of hours, waiting for Vince to finish so they could go rehearse in the garage.
âNo, thanks,â Vince snapped out, his tone maybe too harsh, but to hell with that. Tommy blinked in confusion, dropped his drumstick, plopped on his knees to get it from under the couch and stayed there for good five minutes.
âNo need to get so bitchy, you know,â Nikki murmured. âHe did you nothing wrong.â
Vince felt the blood rushing to his head.
âMaybe if you werenât so bitchy yourself, I wouldnât lash out on him!â his hands started shaking as he was actively suppressing the need to throw the goddamn textbook right at Nikkiâs head.
âMaybe if you werenât so fucking slow we would already have rehearsed everything and then some!â
âNikki!â Tommy gasped somewhere in the background, but neither of them paid attention.
Slow, the word rang in Vinceâs ears, and it was like a punch in the guts.
Nikki looked surprised when he realized Vince was not going to reply. Then he looked at Vinceâs face, at Tommyâs shocked expression and became visibly uncomfortable.
âI hope you enjoy tomorrow meeting with Mick,â Vince said, his voice croaky. He grabbed his jacket and walked out of the room.
***
âVinnie! Donât go away!â
âFuck off, T-bone,â Vince said tiredly, but slowed down, letting Tommy catch up with him. âWhy donât you go and rehearse with Nikki? Iâm not slowing you two down anymore.â Yes, it was unfair to be so mean to Tommy. He didnât seem to get upset over it, though.
âYou know he didnât mean it, right?â Tommy asked, still breathless from running. âHe was just angry because he wanted to impress Mick tomorrow. You know how he gets about these meetings.â
âApparently, theyâre more important to him than me.â
âBullshit.â Tommy grabbed him by the sleeve, forcing to stop. âYou shouldâve seen him after you left. Almost begged me to go bring you back.â
âNow this is definitely bullshit.â Vince stopped after all, still looking strictly forward, his chin unnaturally high. âIf he wants me back so badly then why isnât he here?â
âToo proud.â Tommy shrugged. âHeâll get over it and apologize⊠in a couple of days.â
âWell, I ainât gonna wait here for so long. Iâm going home.â
âNo!â Tommy tugged on his jacket, let go when he saw Vince wasnât going to stop and just walked by his side. He walked faster than Vince and had to make smaller steps to keep up with him. âVinnie, please, letâs go back. I hate it when we argue.â
âDo you really wanna spend the night between two people who are actively hating on each other?â
âCâmon, you donât hate each other. And we had arguments before, and everything turned out fine.â
âWell, Nikki didnât call me stupid back then,â Vince reminded bitterly.
âHe didnât call you that!â Tommy resented. âHe just meant it takes you a little longerâŠâ
âYeah, yeah. Iâm slow, I remember.â
âChrist.â Tommy looked up to the sky with a frustrated expression. âListen, I donât wanna say Iâm the only one here to actually want this goddamn relationship to work, but it seems like the two of you do your best to fuck everything up.â
It was so out of the blue that Vince almost tripped over in the middle of a perfectly even road. âThe fuck you mean by that?â
âI mean exactly what I said.â Tommy stopped, and Vince unconsciously followed suit, baffled by the unexpected stern notes in his voice. âYou and Nikki are so busy guarding your fragile egos you donât care if everything goes sour in the process.â Tommyâs eyes found Vinceâs, for the first time since they started talking, and Vince couldnât look away. âAnd I do. Even more than Iâd want to.â
Tommy bit his lip and looked away, and Vinceâs heart sank, because his last phrase was anything but stern or accusatory. Guilty. He sounded guilty. For caring.
The silence lasted, and lasted, and lasted, and neither of them could make a sound, and thousands of words were running through Vinceâs head.
âFuck,â Tommy finally broke it a couple of excruciatingly awkward minutes later, laughing nervously and still not looking at Vince. âIt really sounded better in my head. Sorry for the drama.â
âItâs alright.â Vinceâs mouth was dry.
âI guess youâd really better go home,â Tommy said, voice thick. âDo you want me to walk with you for a bit? Itâs getting dark.â
âYeah, it really is.â Vince murmured, lingering for a second, and then turned in the opposite direction. âHow about I walk you to your house instead?â
Tommy blinked in confusion, then looked up at Vince and beamed.
***
âOh,â Nikki almost jumped up when they entered the room, then quickly pretended he was going to get up anyway. âVince, I-â
â-am sorry?â Vince interrupted him, feeling a rush of bitterness from the sight of Nikki. âSave your breath. I came back because Tommy asked me to, not because of you.â
âWell, and I asked Tommy to ask you to come back.â Nikki forced on a smile, though it looked more like a grimace.
âHey, donât get me into it!â Tommy resented, not-so-gently pushing Vince towards the bed and standing in front of the door like a guardian. âI got him here, now make up!â
Vince turned to Tommy and ran the side of his palm across his neck in an ultimately understandable Iâm gonna kill you. Tommy smiled sheepishly but didnât move an inch.
Nikki cleared his throat, attracting Vinceâs attention.
âUm, IâŠâ his voice faltered. He was never good at apologizing. Too proud, damn it. âI- Iâm sorry. I shouldnât have said that.â
âYou definitely shouldnât have,â Vince agreed, keeping his voice cold, though the icky, bristly lump in his chest loosened up a little. Watching Nikki so guilty and struggling with his own pride â a trait he rarely tried to suppress - was doing wonders to Vinceâs self-esteem. âAnything else to say besides the generic âIâm sorryâ?â
âChrist,â Nikki sighed and covered his face with his hands for a moment before looking up at Vince again. âNo. Nothing except that I was a major asshole.â
âYou sure were.â Vince really hoped Nikki wouldnât recognize amusement in his voice. Tommy did, and now was doing his best to fight down a smile, lest they accidentally hurt Nikkiâs precious feelings. Some part of Vince encouraged him to burst into laughter at Nikkiâs pitiful attempts, but he managed to suppress this desire so far. He might be a bitch, but not an asshole.
Nikki looked up at him with clear desperation in his eyes. He was truly sorry. He wasnât pretending. The icky lump â his bitterness, his disappointment, his feeling of betrayal, - slackened, the tension it caused in his whole body started fading away. The hurt didnât disappear completely, rather crawled into a hole somewhere far in the back of Vinceâs mind to haunt him during some of those terrible sleepless nights of his. But for now it was gone - out of Vinceâs way. Â
âListen, I donât know what else to say,â Nikki admitted, looking Vince pleadingly in the eyes. âWhat do you want me to do to make up for this?â
âSuck my dick,â Vince offered in a completely serious tone that took all the remains of his poor self-restraint to pull off. Nikkiâs face went from confused to indignant to hopeful in a split second, and this was the last straw for Vinceâs self-control. He started laughing, and Tommy joined him a second later.
Nikkiâs face went to indignant again and remained like this for a solid couple of seconds before he surrendered to laughter as well.
âYou were fucking with me! The whole time! Did you plan it?â
âNo, but you looked so miserable I couldnât help it. The suggestion stands, by the way.â
âOh, sure,â Nikki scrambled to get up, only to fall on his knees in front of Vince a second later. Vince tilted his head back and gripped the sheets, letting out a satisfied moan.
If Nikki would be so eager to blow him after every fight, he might need to reconsider his attitude towards them.
