week beginning 28th October 2020 ( week 4 )
This week stared off with a started off with ups and downs (miss misinterpreting the homework brief ) but eventually I got my head straight. The way lessons are planned through this course really benefit my attitude and motivation to class. I enjoy being left alone, not in the sense that I cant have any help but to way i can relax to my music and take advantage of my time with the tutors and their knowledge. Honestly I was most worries about my 3D class because its all very new but I found it really interesting . We stated of making ‘drawings’ out of cardboard and then proceeded to make mould out of them using a vacuum form machine. We also used band saw and a disk sander to create the circle and squares ( these were only experiments to try the equipment ).In the last couple of lessons, in Helen’s visual communication lesson, I had been experimenting with different medias and drawing techniques so today I with all my previous work in mind I drew six onions , each onion varied in what mark making I used and if used biro, finer liner , graphite of mix of all three.
On Tuesday I found textiles really interesting because we used hemming web to create part of our previous shell drawings. I have only ever used hemming web to take up clothes up and using it for other reasons never crossed my mind so I found it intriguing finding out other possibilities. In visual communications with Julie we were proceeding with our canal & river trust research. Thought the couple of hours I look into the artist Paul Jackson an his style of art because I needed someone who used fine liner pens , he was perfect. I have never used fine liner pens for drawing because I could never managed to successfully make tone but with the mix of Jackson's techniques( cross-hatching) and the right pen I managed to create toe in my frog drawing. The thought of trailing away from my safety net of pencils and colored pencils made me panic a little because I knew I was not great at fine liners but to my surprise I really enjoyed using them. The idea that I can not removed any mistakes with rubber terrified me, but it encouraged me to be more precises but also a little bit more relaxed because no matter how much I pouted because I could not erase what did knew it would not change anything.
