Sukuna has multiple techniques in his arsenal and you know what? Now that in 250, Yuta had copied his Dismantle technique... I don't think that technique was ever meant to be used by Yuji.

Remember way back when Satoru told Yuji that he could be able to use Sukuna's technique but not at that time (chapter 12)? He wasn't precise about that since at that time, Satoru didn't actually witness Sukuna use his technique(s). So he couldn't actually know what technique Yuji could use.

Story wise, I think that was a key detail that may should have been kept in mind. Because if Gege intended for Yuji to use Dismantle and/or Cleave, possibly Satoru could have just outright named the technique and later on, I don't think Gege would have had Yuta use those techniques. (It's fitting that the guy with the sword would use a cutting technique.)

Adding to that, Dismantle and Cleave are brought up way too often. If Gege was gonna have Yuji use a technique, it would be a technique that is a surprise. Come on, Gege is all for the surprises. I doubt Gege would be like "Oh, yeah, Yuji can use Dismantle now." We would have seen that coming.

What if, hear me out, what if the technique Yuji was meant to use was a soul related one? The one he will be using to separate Megumi from Sukuna? And that technique happened to be Sukuna's?

I know it makes no sense probably, but let me ramble.

As mentioned Sukuna has multiple techniques. Dismantle and cleave, that Flame Arrow thing, etc. We know he's even capable of using other techniques of the bodies he possesses because he later uses Megumi's Ten Shadows.

So could it be possible that he also had one involving the soul?

Because how in the hell did he even figure out that Yuji was going to try to separate Megumi's soul from him?

Back in 244, remember how shook Sukuna was when Yuji did this?

That is a look of bewilderment. It's like he knew that feeling from before. Fast forward to 249, he stated this!

Yuji or anyone didn't say anything about doing that. But Sukuna, being that he is Sukuna (he's not a dumb guy) figured it out. And what if he figured it out because he recognized a technique that he may have used before?

Also, it just seems fitting that Yuji would end up with a soul technique. His soul was untouchable by Mahito because Sukuna possessed his body. Speaking of, Mahito was one of his biggest enemies and his technique involved the soul. As commented by Sukuna, Yuji has an unbreakable soul/ideal.

i appreciate arcane reminding us of viktor's origins - the reason he is so called to help people and, eventually, save himself - and putting jayce through the ringer - the contrast between he and viktor's lived experiences is front and center throughout season 1. the writers send jayce, and the audience, on a grueling journey to contemplate those experiences and how they've manifested in these intertwined characters.
