oh, word! there are a lot of things that a lot of people ignore, deny, fail to report, and/or record inaccurately. creating the illusion that these things are few & far between. when more people start paying attention and reporting the things, usually because someone broke the seal of silence and now everyone feels able (or obliged) to speak up, it will seem to everyone who hasn't been living the reality of these things like said things are suddenly on the rise.

for example: sexual harassment, police violence against Black people, trans people existing, and Autistic people (eligible for diagnoses under new diagnostic definitions). it will seem to people who have been isolated from these realities -- which were happening the whole time -- like there's some *epidemic*. (sensationalized faddish reporting also helps feed this distortion, like a funhouse mirror.)

when what's really happening is that something actually really damn common is no longer being hidden, denied, and unreported.

like when babies become able to focus their gaze beyond ten inches, it's not like there's a sudden epidemic of *stuff* that never existed before omgs! …no, that stuff was always there, but now it's visible.

sometimes we'll hear about a thing for the first time, and hear about it from everywhere all at once. it helps to remember that this is not necessarily a sign that this thing only now started existing or happening, and isn't necessarily a cause for mindless panic and reactivity.

the world that you thought you knew, without the thing, might seem like it's ending, but it's okay -- because that world never existed in the first place. and there are plenty of people who knew about the thing all along, and have been dealing with the thing all along, and probably have some excellent ideas and strategies for how to deal with the thing.

I used to be a clinical coder in one of the largest maternity hospitals in Scotland. It was my job to record ICD-10 codes for every procedure and diagnosis based on reading the hospital notes.

The woman who trained me to do my job was less than competent. She told me that the bosses had complained that too many patients were being marked “unknown” for whether they smoked or not, and she interpreted this to mean “mark everyone as a non-smoker unless it was somehow obvious they were a smoker.” (The bosses should have been talking to the midwives who filled out the forms, not the coders, but whatever.) I decided her way was dishonest and wrong, so I took the time to dig deeper in the notes to see if the patients were smokers or not and reported it accordingly.

About a year after I started doing that job, I saw a news report stating that for some unknown reason, more women in Scotland were continuing to smoke throughout their pregnancies than before. It was bullshit. The smoking rates had not changed. It’s just that it was being reported more honestly at one of the major hospitals, and that was enough to make it look like a significant statistical shift nation-wide.

Around 2007, they changed the coding rules on co-morbidity. We were told to report “obesity” as a co-morbidity above hypertension and congenital disorders and a bunch of other serious diseases.  So the rate of reporting of obesity went up, but there were no more fat people than there were before. We were just told that fatness had to be reported every single time a fat person was in the hospital, regardless of what other reasons they might be there.

Obesity statistics are largely bullshit. The statistical reporting has been manipulated to demonize fat people and mark every medical problem a fat person has as “obesity-related”. There has not been an increase in obesity-related illnesses. There has been an increase in relating illnesses to obesity, whether they are connected or not.

First of all, for some reason I'm stuck with the thought that he's an archer, he was the first one to see the winion's island in Full speed ahead so I guess his glasses help him very well?? Haha I know I know. Still, I personally don't imagine him being full on close-combat, for sure in some situations but preferably bow

And second I wanted each of the trio to have at least two of the same colors integrated in their designs,

like Red in Polites' Headband, Ody's cape and Eurys waistband

Yellow in each of the trios jewelry

And Polites' glasses and Eurys clothes are Purple! (Still looking if I can sneak a purple element into Ody's design 🥺)

but like I hope that makes sense?

OH. MY. GOD. FIRST OF ALL??? THANK YOU??? You have no idea how much that means to me 😭😭 Sevika stans are elite, I don’t make the rules. Second of all, yes, I will absolutely dabble in this for you because the image of Sevika just breaking down in a tub is so real that I had to write it out-

Okay, so picture this:

Sevika’s never been one for softness, right? Like, she’s all sharp edges, clenched fists, and an unshakable poker face that screams, “Don’t even think about it.” But somewhere along the line, you weaseled your way into her heart (as one does), and now you’re in her life, showing her what it’s like to actually let someone take care of her.

So, you convince her to let you help her clean up after another long day of getting her hands dirty for Silco’s operations. She’s stiff at first, sitting in the tub with her back straight like she’s on a battlefield instead of in a warm bath. You gently pull her mechanical arm off (and she HATES letting people do that for her, but for you? She just grumbles and lets it happen).

You grab a sponge, lather it up with soap that smells way too nice for someone as rugged as her (but she secretly loves it), and start washing her back. You’re so careful around her scars, like you’re afraid of hurting her, and that’s when she starts to lose it. Her shoulders tense, and she tries to keep up the tough act, but then you start running your fingers through her hair to rinse out the grime, and—boom. Waterworks.

She doesn’t even know why she’s crying at first, but she just leans forward, her hands covering her face as her chest heaves with these messy, gut-wrenching sobs. And you’re just THERE, holding her head against your chest and murmuring things like, “You’re okay. You’re safe. I’ve got you.”

It hits her all at once: no one’s ever treated her like this before. Like she’s worth this kind of care, this kind of tenderness. She’s always been the one cleaning up other people’s messes—patching them up, fighting their battles. She’s never had anyone do it for her. And now she doesn’t know how to handle it.

When she finally calms down, her voice is so raspy and low when she mutters, “I don’t deserve this.” But you just shush her and kiss her temple, promising that she’s more than earned it, and she just… sits there in the bath, letting herself believe it for the first time in her life.

TL;DR: Sevika’s a big, tough baby who cries the second you show her the tiniest bit of unconditional love, and honestly, same. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

In light of the latest revelations /spoilers Here’s my headcanon of what would have happened in season 2:

Charles is probably trying to process his feelings and figure out how he feels about Edwin but also, how he feels about Crystal

At the ends of the first season Crystal having now defeated David seems to show renewed interest in Charles. This tells me in season 2 she will probably try to seduce him or something.

I also imagine after getting back her memories some part of the old Crystal could interfere with her behaviour regarding her new life with the boys. She could fall back into old pattern and act a little bolder. This might add up to the confusion in charles mind now being the love interest of his two best friends.

Edwin is absolutely going to loose it because he is intrinsically horny and probably confused by the whole Charles /Crystal thing. Horny and sad… despair and desire show up. Edwin goes to the cat king. You know who doesn’t like the cat king? Charles. What happens when Charles figures out Edwin is adulting with the cat king? Jealous Charles. Again despair and desire. Charles realize he is jealous of the CK! Just like Edwin find out of his feelings for Charles because of the CK digging up his horny feelings the same is going to happen to Charles.

Also Niko is going to come back with some kind of supernatural powers and help Crystal figuring out her supernatural abilities and helping her make peace with her past self because Niko is the therapist we all need.

#yes exactly#maruki believes people are fundamentally unable to overcome their trauma#this means that their trauma has to be erased including the parts of themselves that formed in response to their trauma#maruki thinks people are too broken and weak to find happiness after horrible things happen to them#and so he will go to any lengths to erase that trauma even if it means erasing that person themself to force them to be happy#but he's WRONG. you CAN be happy even if you have been traumatized. it's difficult but it's possible#even akechi could have found happiness. (there are some in the fandom that seem to think him being unhappy is a fundamental#part of him. they are agreeing with maruki's premise and it pisses me the fuck off.)#anyway#yeah. this is a good meta articulates something that makes me very insane very well#p5#goro akechi#sumire yoshizawa#takuto maruki The scary thing is, a LOT of the fandom likes Maruki's reality. They admit it. It's like a twisted version of all the hate Akechi got during Vanilla days; his trauma and grief was not "palatable" the way Haru's is, for example, so it's bad, he's bad. Maruki is having the same attitude. I do not care if it comes from "kindness", it's still inherently wrong. There was nothing "wrong" with Akechi and Sumire. And to me, those who prefer Maruki's reality are saying there is. And that's a VILE attitude to have towards abuse survivors and those grieving, gods.

Something I think about a lot with Maruki's perfect reality thing in terms of Akechi is how like, defanged he is for lack of a better term. I know Maruki's actual reasoning for things like that is just that his perfect reality removes a lot of the trauma from people, so they would inherently act differently, but to me it ends up just pushing the idea of "you can't be happy the way that you are"

It's reflected in a lot of the characters honestly, since a lot of their trauma didn't happen or is covered up by the reality none of them are themselves. Aspects of their personality caused by the hardships they faced no longer exist

Sumire is also a big example of this. I could talk a lot about Sumire but in relation to this topic, again her perfect reality being one where she is not herself (literally) and doesn't have any of the past trauma or experiences that made her who Sumire is just pushes that idea even more, not even getting into how it also reinforces her own negative ideas about herself by Maruki doing that

In the perfect reality, Akechi and Sumire are both different people than who they actually are, so it's really not a reality in which they are happy, is it? "You're too broken of a person to ever be happy while being who you are" is the message that gets sent across to me, whether or not Maruki intended that

Sumire is Kasumi now, a happy and determined person who isn't bitter and angry and overwhelmed with grief about the death of her sister, a person who doesn't hate herself and a person who doesn't have those experiences. Someone who now never has the chance to explore who she really is and grow and face her struggles head on, someone who will never get to learn that she is worth more than she grew up believing, replaced by the sister who she always felt was better then her

Akechi is now a cheerful and kind person, a reflection of his Detective Prince act, who is no longer resentful and lonely, no longer traumatized from all the actions he had to take throughout his life and someone who could've found happiness if he just had more time. Someone who had people who accepted the parts of him that would make most view him as unworthy of affection, the less palatable person who longed for someone to want him, as he is, replaced by a version of him that's seen as easier to love

anon i'm so glad you asked because i have so many thoughts about this because dan is me i am dan. i think dan would have started out more generic goth that led into more femme scene vibes (basic razor cut with clip in extensions that'd she'd mostly wear for pics/going out and specifically vans slip on ballet flats NOT converse because she looks to "boyish" in them and of course a hello kitty phase because how can i be a dyke if i love hello kitty)

then that progressed into 2010s hipster normcore skinny jeans + cami + zip up hoodie combo. still with a razor fringe cut but her hair is long enough that she doesn't wear extensions anymore. makeup is still heavier black eyeliner but now she wears lipstick sometimes when she feels too "lezzy" (obviously she's still deep in the closet and i am once again saying can we talk about phan yuri lipstick gate where fi has lipstick that's not hers on her neck/pillow)

she did a "big chop" post coming out (standard issue new lesbian short bob) and honestly her style is pretty much the same as real life dan because gender is whatever and dan is a formless blob no matter what so like mostly jumpers and basics with some funky luxury pieces thrown in (and also more clothes stealing because butch phil has cooler clothes i think)

I went to lunch with your mom today. One thing some shifters aren't realizing is that they shouldn't be linking their DR's to their CR's

First of all linking your dr to your cr is wrong because it'll tell your subconscious that it's the same logic in both worlds but it's not, people here believe that magic is fake and Hogwarts is just a school in a FICTIONAL movie, but your HP dr says that HOGWARTS IS REAL AND ITS MAGIC IS REAL!!!

How does that even happen? When you start saying that your dr is so "far from reality" and "impossible to exist" you're telling your subconscious that that shit is fake and your mind shouldn't believe in it at all

You're dr is REALITY everything in your dr is REAL AF because it's a different WORLD with different logic, creatures, languages,etc..

For example there's a reality where a chemical compound is called "UWU" and it's similar to "CO" which is a deadly chemical LIKE EVERYTHING IS DIFFERENT like seriously

Anyway, back to our main topic. Saying that something in your dr is fake means that your dr is just like your cr, why? Because it's only fake here while in your dr it's something that all humans *or a different type of creatures* believe in like in my DESIRED REALITY I'm a mermaid and it doesn't surprise people, but does it surprise people that I'm a mermaid here? I want it on record that I am a proud member of Team "Gabrielle Benele is Completely Unhinged."

This may be a rather lukewarm take, as I don't have as much interaction with the Daggerfall Covenant side of the ESO fandom, but I'm convinced that, like myself until a couple years ago, neither has anyone that has ever earnestly considered her a voice of reason.

Gabrielle is that one character that people assume is put together at first glance because she's intelligent and professionally accomplished, but that perception completely shifts as people gradually discover the laundry list of borderline war crimes she's used those smarts to commit.

Her canonical claims to fame include, with no hyperbole applied:

Singlehandedly breaking into a cult-infested crypt for a talisman rumored to open portals to Oblivion.

Gleefully hacking the warding sequence on one of the most secure vaults in the Covenant and openly admitting that she'd wanted to take a crack for some time upon learning it was named the "Impervious Vault."

Getting banned from the Anchor's Point Inn for setting fire to the hair of a pushy dragonknight who failed to heed her rather upfront request to stop hitting on her (easily the most understandable point on this dissertation).

Losing "teleporting directly to the Evermore Mages' Guild" privileges for a reportedly similar incident.

And, most unnervingly of all, sending a treatise to Covenant generals advising the displacement of beasts and beastfolk in enemy territory to send them rampaging into local settlements as an invasion tactic.

Ya gurl may have more outward tact in professional settings, but there's absolutely no way her dynamic with Darien doesn't involve him reigning her in ethically as often as she reigns him in conversationally. These feral besties are two halves of a whole common sense and I love that for them.
