Chuuya's reaction to Dazai getting hurt during the Lovecraft fight has always been so interesting to me...

Because it's the kind of worry you'd never expect from a character as gruff as Chuuya, who had displayed nothing but hostility towards Dazai so far. Usually, characters that are labelled as "angry" or "anger issues" (which Chuuya is much more complex than that but you get my point) act more as a tsundere type of way when the one they "don't care about" gets hurt. And show their care in very, very subtle ways (ex. their eyes widen, their mouth parts and closes again, etc) before putting up their front once more.

Chuuya, however, is open, and vocal about it. His worry is clear not only to us, but to Dazai himself, the one he shouldn't be displaying the concern to (as per the cliche). Shouldn't it be some sort of secret that Chuuya does care? Isn't that what skk's dynamic has been shaping up to be until now?

I'm telling you- the way my mind blanked when Chuuya just casually.... showed concern not once, but twice, was a sight to see.

Besides, the context makes it much more confusing, because Dazai isn't some rookie, and Chuuya knows that more than anybody. He was the youngest executive in Port Mafia's history, of course he can handle a hit or two. Of course he'd seen him handle a hit or two, sometimes without batting an eye.

Heck, Chuuya himself was hurling Dazai like a ragdoll in their reunion, which was their last meeting. And you could argue that he was going easy on him, but Dazai has mostly withstood the same damage (as far as I could see), and Chuuya was as bitter as ever.

So that kind of contradicts both what we knew of Chuuya so far, and how their dynamic was shaped to be. I mean, that just makes Chuuya a hypocrite, yeah? What makes him care now, all of a sudden? What makes him care at all?

Well, to me, this backasswards reaction implies one (or more) of the following:

- Dazai rarely got physically hurt during their partnership and thus this is an unexpected thing for him to see (during a mission).

- The four years of separation made Chuuya unsure of how much Dazai can withstand physically now. Also the fact that he isn't in the mafia anymore, aka fighting enemy organizations on the weekly, would naturally make Dazai lose his touch in a way, what prompts Chuuya's reaction.

- Dazai getting taken off guard took him off guard which led to panic. Especially since the situation was (momentarily) out of their depth. Seriously wtf even was Lovecraft?

- During the dungeon scene Dazai was an enemy, while in the Lovecraft fight he was as an ally. The difference might be significant to Chuuya.

- This has always been Chuuya's reaction to Dazai getting hurt regardless of the situation.

- "Only I can hurt him like that" ahh logic

- Asagiri was still experimenting with their dynamic and thus there are some inconsistencies.

This scenario didn't play out again (after their reunion) for me to exactly determine which one is more plausible, but it is 100% canon for Chuuya to shamelessly show his concern and run to Dazai to check on him before properly dealing with their opponent, which I find to be such an appealing layer to their dynamic, and a good spin on the type of character he gets stereotyped as.

Bonus: Dazai also becomes a softy when Chuuya's hurt, especially post corruption. Dead Apple alone displays that multiple times.

All in all, Skk are doing a terrible job at maintaining their 'hostile' and 'antagonistic' relationship post their reunion. Freaks.

Anyway on to actual analysis

After reading this note, several deductions can be made about our antagonist's character right off the bat, which in season 3 we see to be accurate assumptions

First of all the sending of the note "release me" constantly at the beginning of every reset presumably for the past several ones gives us a base line of a few things A) whoever wrote it is trapped B) they really want out C) whomever was to recive the note presumably can help with this D) this person is either very angry and resorting to formal wording as a form of passive aggression or they are simply a very formal person Had this not been the case they would have written "let me out" or "get me out" or even "help me"

Now for the post-corruption portion

"You are free of Enderian"

1) this person knows Enderian 2) This person knows at least of Icarus 3) They intentionally have been sending these to Icarus 4) despite being trapped they have some way to know what is going on 5) their particular view of Enderian is not favorable it's not overtly antagonistic however this is the one part of the not that can be read as at least partially sympathetic to Icarus

Finally "Now focus on your purpose"

1) they don't see Icarus as anything but a means to an end 2) tone wise it feels like both the chastisement of a child and an order to an unthinking being 3) "your purpose" seemingly refers to the prior statement of "release me" either implying that the writer believes Icarus is only here to get them out of wherever they are or that Icarus's sole purpose in life is to aid and assist them and 4) the use of "now" after the previous statement implies they view the corruption arc as simply something that was inhibiting the progression of them being let out

First off once again SIR THAT IS YOUR CHILD YOU MOTHERFUCKER-

In conclusion deductions that can be made from this note with the knowledge that i now hold are as follows: Fable wanted out of purgatory, they issued Icarus with the fulfillment of this task and saw the corruption arc as merely a speed bump on the road of getting his ass outta there. Fable is a pretentious douchebag. Like everyone else in his life Fable is constantly using his own son as a means to achieving his end goal.

Other notes:

Had Fable's motivations not been his underlying obsession with keeping what he believes is "his" even when it disrupts and disregards the rules of the universe and the sanctity of life he likely wouldn't have given 2 shits about Icarus.

If we view Fable's interactions with others through the lense of him thinking of those of the overworld as "his" his people his creations his world then it starts to become clearer that he only sees individuals as tools and for their potential usefulness to him. And if we want to take this view even further we could even say that he at least on some level viewed Alerion giving a place for his deceased mortals to restate something akin to how a child views their sibling stealing a toy from their room, which then implies that the war of the gods is just a big temper tantrum where Fable hurt his brother then his other siblings stepped in and went "hey woah man not cool you can hit Al dude he is literally just playing the game" to which Fable's response was to hurt them as well and now he's just got out of timeout and basically started blaming his parents for everything wrong in his life which is so silly goofy of him until you remember that these were people he was upset about his brother "stealing" from him and it becomes less silly goofy.

"But Lilly!" I hear you say because you've totally read this far, mhm definitely "If he doesn't actually care about the dead people, then why does he act nice? Why is his charisma stat so high?" Well to that I say is it easier to keep someone in one spot when you make them believe this is where they wanna be or when they know the whole truth?

reasons why 4*town deserves a comeback: a lengthy post

★ their music is nostalgic for 90s–00s kids, who grew up with groups such as *nsync and backstreet boys.

★ their talent was recognised by significant award shows, including nominations for the oscars (best original song), and the grammys (best song written for visual media).

★ their hit single, 'nobody like u', peaked at #49 on the billboard hot 100 in 2022. it made history as the first ever song from a pixar movie to achieve this.

★ 'nobody like u' was certified gold and platinum in the same year (2023) by the riaa, and was honoured in riaa's hall of fame 2023. they were 1/57 recording artists last year to achieve this, proving their commercial viability.

★ 2 petitions were made on change.org, calling for pixar to release more music for 4*town:

★ they have 1.2m monthly listeners on spotify, showing that they have established a strong fanbase and still hold relevancy.

okay can i just say. in my opinion moominvalley season 4 was the worst season out of all of them, which really isn't the thing you wanna say about a final season...

the whole thing was so anti-climactic, like the whole thing with snufkin and joxter. in what world is it satisfying to not have them meet?? especially after having a whole build up for it as well??? if they're not gonna meet don't pretend like it. i'm expecting a memoires adaptation where they do meet now

this goes for the final episode again. it just felt like another filler episode, none of that tension that the original story (and even the movie) provided. it was not a satisfying conclusion to the story AT ALL.

and don't even get me STARTED on the relationships in this season.

more specifically whatever moomintroll and snorkmaiden have going on. why are they still together?? genuine question, and i don't mean that in a "break up so that snufmin can get together" way, i mean it in a "break up because they're both holding onto something that isn't working for either of them" way. it's been set up since season 1, when moomintroll is shown to care about his best friend more than his girlfriend and her then feeling neglected, and further in season 2 (or 3? i can't remember) with the whole metaphor with moomintroll holding snorkmaiden's paw too tightly which very clearly implies their relationship, based on other subtext.

and also snufmin?? i hate, genuinely hate, how there was just none of it, no mention or continuation of anything the other seasons have been building up to. it's as if we're back to season 1 again, except for the fact that snufkin and moomintroll are more comfortable with little touches and stuff like that. how is it that gutsy just decided to be basically done with it after the lonely mountains scene?? there's just none of that beautiful queer subtext that tove's stories contain

also this doesn't feel like an issue with them being gay, okay yes it does i take it back but gutsy were completely fine with making sniff fall in love with stinky in the midsummer meddling episode which. what the hell even was that. what the fuck gutsy

also where the hell was snufkin in this season?? he was in like 4 episodes which is kinda insane for such a major character😭

i think i'll end my rant here by saying that this season was incredibly disappointing and i'm fucking pissed about gutsy queerbaiting us

Nerd rant about my latest research topic under cut

I just spent 4 hours deep diving into the 1983 The Outsiders movie soundtrack and score to find a song that my niece loves. I’m a huge nerd when it comes to movie scores and soundtracks (I believe they can make or break a film and I regularly listen to my favorite ones).

For this one, It wasn’t credited in the movie and was made specifically for the remastering of the film well after the movie came out (2005 I believe). This song was only added to help give the audience a feel for the time period the film takes place in and wasn’t in the original movie. It’s essentially lost media. After all that time, I was able to cross reference my rolodex of oldies music with in the info I had and found the song that they sampled to create the song that plays in the background of the scene.

She’s been obsessed with the scene and the song since we were kids and always talks about how she hates that the song wasn’t released in and of the soundtrack albums you can buy since it was made specifically for the movie and isn’t a real song. I can’t wait to tell her I found it!!

Obviously it’s not an exact match. The composer tweaked the speed and pitch of the song and added a few instruments, but it’s super close! Plus, I also found a random video where someone edited the scene to isolate only the background music so you could listen to the song without the dialogue so I’m gonna send that to her along with the song I found since the song has lyrics and the one in the movie is instrumental.

I also went down a rabbit hole about the casting process for the film which lead to me researching other 80s movies that I grew up on (thank you to my older siblings and parents for hoarding movies lol). I also learned that Ralph Macchio is Italian and not Mexican? I thought he was Mexican my whole life, but maybe that was just young me trying to find some kind of representation lol (that kid looked like he was some type of poc and I will die on that hill).

Anyways, The Outsiders is one of my favorite movies so it was fun getting to go down those rabbit holes. I completely lost track of time while I focused on this, but I felt so smart when I found the song lmao.
