Camp Crystal Lake: Chapter 7
Tumblr media
Requested by @yellowjacketsbuzzbuzz
Joel Miller x f!reader (romance/horror)
Setting: Camp Crystal Lake
The reader is taking on the position of a camp counselor at the infamous Camp Crystal Lake. While she begins to enjoy her summer, even crushing on the camp director Joel, a killer lurks in the woods unbeknownst to anyone.
The night was low key. I could tell everyone was at least a little tired from working, and playing, in the hot sun all day. Mark sat on the porch with a book in his lap, and as I entered the cabin from exploring the grounds a little I saw Vicki wander over to sit beside him.
When I entered the cabin, Jeff and Sandra sat in the living room toying with an old record player. Scott laid the length of the couch with his hands behind his head and his eyes closed. I saw he had an ear pod in and was gently bobbing his head to whatever music was playing.
Joel looked over his shoulder from where he was retrieving hot dogs and hamburgers from the fridge and smirked subtly at me as I entered. I smiled back and toyed with a few stray strands of hair by my forehead.
“(Y/N),” Sandra called, waving me over.
I wandered over toward where she held a few albums in her arm like a pair of books. “Hey, did you guys get in trouble?” I asked quietly.
She shook her head. “Nah. Joel just told us not to go back over there.”
“Did you see anything creepy?”
“We didn't get that far,” Jeff claimed. “The cop picked us up before we could go inside any of the old cabins.”
“Anyone want burgers or dogs?” Joel asked aloud. He held a package of hotdogs in the air as we all glanced over.
Jeff held a hand up and then Sandra did the same. I gave a nod and Scott sat up from where he laid.
“Food?” He asked, removing his ear pods.
Joel snickered and confirmed with a nod. “Food.”
Annie appeared at the top of the open staircase toying with her damp, towel-dried hair. “Shower’s free if anyone needs to get in.” Her croc-clad feet peppered down the stairs. “I'll be back in a little bit.”
“You want anything to eat?” Joel asked her.
“I made myself a big salad about an hour ago,” she claimed. “And I'll probably have a s'more or two when I get back.”
“Beware of Ralph,” Joel said to her, half-kidding.
“Ha ha.” Annie threw her hair up into a high bun. “If I see him, I'll give him an ice cream sandwich. I'm going to check out the ice cream inventory.”
“Take a break,” Joel encouraged. “Do it in the morning.”
She waved a hand at him. “I'll be twenty minutes.”
“Mark,” Jeff shouted through the screen of the porch window. “You guys want hot dogs and burgers?”
“One of each for me,” he called back.
“I'll take a cheeseburger if you're offering,” Vicki said next.
“You hear that boss?” Jeff asked Joel.
“Loud and clear.”
“Where's Teri?” I looked around the open floor plan.
“Upstairs,” Sandra claimed.
“Anyone want to give me a hand bringing some of this stuff out to the grill?” Joel asked.
Jeff began to raise his hand but Sandra nudged his stomach with her elbow.
“Ow,” he said quietly, glancing at her.
“Go,” Sandra whispered to me, as Joel nonchalantly retrieved cheese, lettuce and tomato from the fridge.
I chuckled and cleared my throat. “I'll help,” I volunteered.
“Great, thanks,” Joel said back.
I gazed at Sandra and we shared a smirk. I pulled her in to whisper discreetly. “We need to talk later.”
“What happened?” She whispered back.
“I'll tell you later.”
Joel and I made eye contact across the room and I wandered over to grab two oversized dishes he’d laid out. When he placed a knife on top of them I glanced up at him.
“Might need you to slice a tomato or two while I heat up the grill,” he explained.
“No problem.” I retrieved the lettuce and tomato, scooped up the plates and followed him out the back door onto a little deck. The light by the back door illuminated the grilling area as the atmosphere darkened under the cover of the trees.
I placed the plates down on a small table beside the grill and retrieved a tomato as Joel squatted to turn the gas tank on. My back was to him as I began to slice the red sphere. My body stiffened and I felt a rush of adrenaline power through me when Joel’s hand topped mine on the knife. His body brushed up against mine and I let out a breath without looking back.
Joel’s hand pressed down and I went with the motion, cutting the tomato once, twice, three times.
“You’re very good at that,” he practically purred in my ear. Feeling his breath land against my neck as he spoke made me weak in the knees, and my toes curled beneath my white Nikes.
I swallowed hard, taking completely off guard but also totally on board with Joel’s advances. “Thank you,” I choked out.
“I knew how you felt about me the second I met you,” he spoke quietly. His fingers tucked a few stray strands of hair behind my ear.
There was no use in denying it. “How?” I whispered back.
“A man can tell.”
A man. He certainly was a man. The tumultuous emotions that brewed inside of me were unlike anything I’d ever felt before when it came to sex, romance and dating. My whole body was hot and if there would have been no repercussions I would have uncharacteristically turned and jumped his bones right there.
The knife left my hand and he turned my body to face his. Joel dove in for a kiss, an extension of what was interrupted in the shed by the sheriff earlier in the day. I had been thinking about it ever since.
Can anyone see us? The concern was a fleeting one and I continued to indulge in him until Joel was the one to pull back with a breath. When he proceeded to peck my lips just after I wasn’t ready for it and simply closed my eyes without reciprocating. His hand landed on the side of my face and my eyes flickered open again. Joel let out a breath through his nose.
“Are you involved with anyone?” he asked.
I shook my head. “No. Are.. you?”
Joel mirrored my response. “No.”
“Good.” I laughed lightly as I said that.
“You, uh.. You want to agree to a summer romance?”
I laughed a little louder and Joel laughed with me. “What are the terms of that?”
“Why don’t we make them right now?”
“Okay.” I felt my body heat up even more and I couldn’t keep a wide grin from my face.
“Don’t pursue anyone else at the camp.” The statement came out sort of as a question, “And I won’t either.”
I nodded. That was more than reasonable. “I’ll agree to that.”
“Unless you’re not into this once we try-”
“I’m into it,” I said right away, making him chuckle. I added, “A man really can tell, I guess because I’m.. very into this.”
“Good.” Joel smirked, “Because I am, too.” He pulled me back to him and our lips met again. I could feel him smiling into the kiss the same way I was.
“Do we have to keep this, like, a secret?” I asked.
“Doesn’t Sandra already know?”
My eyes widened and I swallowed hard. “Well.. not.. Exactly.”
“She’s smart,” Joel said with a smirk, “She knows.”
“Well, she’s suspected.. I didn’t say anything.”
“We’re all adults here,” he reminded me, “I’m just the organizer of this place. You all seem like good workers so there’s no favoritism.” Joel toyed with my hair again, “As long as you’re not embarrassed about it, it doesn’t bother me.”
“Why would I be embarrassed?”
“Because of our age difference.”
I laughed lightly, “No guys in their twenties made me feel what you’ve made me feel in the short time I’ve known you.”
Joel looked pleased by my words and smiled smally, mostly to himself. It almost looked like he was giving himself props in his mind. It made me chuckle again.
“So.” He held a hand out in front of him, “Do we agree to the terms?”
I glanced down and shook his hand. “I agree.”
“And you’re a townie, like me,” Joel added. “So, if things go really well, maybe we can even go apple picking in the fall.”
My heart grew a size. “I’ll be around.”
“Good.” He leaned in and kissed me lips again as he reached for a spatula.
“Good.”

about me: a writeblr re-re-re-introduction
Hello! My old pinned post is officially over a year old and makes me cringe whenever I'm on my blog, so it's time to freshen things up again!
me
I'm Teri, I'm smack dab in the middle of my 20s and figuring out life. My writing is pretty exclusively original stuff, a lot of novels and a lot of fantasy, but I play around with various genres in short stories. Sort of a jack-of-all-trades in regards to hobbies - aside from writing, there's anything from baking to drawing with my ancient art tablet to cross-stitch to playing music to rambling around the patch of woods near my house to watching long-form D&D let's plays.
my goals
I recognize that every time I post something like this, it's with the intention of finally becoming as active on writeblr as I was during the pandemic. I also recognize I've never quite managed that.
So here are some more general goals to get me through 2024:
Finish my 2nd draft of Beyond Alder Creek
Write as cringey and brutally honest as I never allowed myself to as a teenager.
Speaking of, a large reading/writing goal of mine is to go back through every NaNo draft I've ever written (I've participated since 2011). So aside from just reading that and likely turning it into a whole spectacle on here for people's amusement, generally just survive reading through the writing from 8th grade. Stay tuned for more on that in the coming weeks lol
Finally, I have a general goal every year of reaching 100K words, between writing and editing and the like, but I'd happily be a little looser with that goal if it meant getting through others.
And now, without further ado:
my writing
Before I get specifically into WIPs, a general overview of the kind of writing you can expect from me:
As I said, I'm a fantasy nerd. I love worldbuilding, both on a large scale (nations and cultures and political relationships) and a small scale (a magic shop in an otherwise contemporary setting).
There's not a lot of romance in my writing, but there Are a lot of transformational relationships and codependency. Friendships, siblings, guardians, general ride-or-dies.
Thought experiments. I've been trying to catch and indulge more in my 'wait, what if?' ideas. Sometimes, that's fun little snippets of silly ideas, sometimes it's a majorly emotionally heavy scene for a story I'll never write. Sometimes, it's coming up with ideas to 'combine genres'. It's all about expanding the range.
wips*
Beyond Alder Creek /// draft 2 /// tag: bac
Winnie Pewitt has never believed in the fae. That is, until her little brother disappears, and she stumbles upon a faerie ring on the edge of town. Inside, a man seemingly carved from gold suggests that he knows who took the boy. With everyone else around their hometown accepting her brother's fate as certainty, Winnie takes it upon herself to craft the perfect deal and enter the realm of the fae with her new companion in tow.
The Lies in the Legend /// draft 1 /// tag: litl
The fictional autobiography of an elven noblewoman who rose rapidly in station and influence from an unremarkable youth to a diplomatic powerhouse. Spanning centuries during the prime of her life, Lady Ghislaine Agassi charts the course of her career and reputation, and highlights the dangers of making myths out of our idols.
*Though these are my primary WIPs, I have a page that covers various other WIPs and projects that I've brought up over the past few years.
I think that about covers everything! As always, I can't make any promises about how the year will wind up and where it takes us. But I will say, I've actually been writing recently, and yk I'm just gonna ride that high.
And for fun, here's some random facts about me:
fun facts
I have degrees in psychology and music!
I've lived across three continents, but currently live in upstate New York for whatever reason lol
The animals I've ridden on the back of include: horse, pony, elephant, and ostrich. The horse was my least favorite. By far.
I got diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes a couple months after Covid landed stateside (in May 2020) and am Always ready to talk someone's ear off about it.
The first story I ever wrote was on PowerPoint and was about war breaking out between humans and aliens that had taken refuge on Earth after their planet was destroyed. I was 8. There was a Lot of Clipart involved.
I've never been published, but I once secretly planned out, wrote, edited, and self-printed a couple copies of a novel about my best friends and our college apartment. They received it for Christmas last year and loved it (or at least were kind enough to tell me they did)!

“I say 'creepy' is just another label we use to distance ourselves from stuff we don't understand. Or that it reminds us of something in ourselves that we're not comfortable with. It just ain't a real thing, ya know? Unless you choose to believe it." - Finn Mertens

A Long-Overdue RANT Girlies Appreciation Post
Tonight feels like the perfect night to tell you how much I love you all, and I apologize in advance for the length of this post.
~ Nina ~
My precious Pastel Woods outfit hype-woman who’s always ready to Style Carry™️ me onto the battle field, deceive the enemies with her iconic mermaid hair extensions and then KICK SOME ASS for the both of us. Darling, if your Pinterest board is any indication, you have me absolutely figured out and it is both hilarious and iconic. You are for real my Kenny-coded friend’s evil twin and I know without a doubt that you two would go full GTA mode on the NPC bad drivers to bring me an iced coffee (from ANYWHERE but the Bad Vibes Café). Speaking of which, I hoping you’re treating yourself to an iced chai, because you deserve it, you gorgeous and talented REAL author who I adore. Thanks for climbing up on stilts to give me a kiss on the cheek whenever I’m feeling down. Your constant kind words mean so much to me and yes, you did make me cry actual tears when you called me your IRL Superhero. Your dear Wal-Mart Taylor Swift sends all the love in the world.
~ Teri ~
Scary Teri, my favorite Ten Ferrets Stacked in a Trench Coat, my fellow road rage gal who loves screaming in the car as much as I do. I can’t even tell you how much I appreciate you for biting the bullet and being the Cartman friend with whom I can make THE darkest jokes and tell THE darkest stories (and, of course, exchange graphic jump-scare surgery pics) without scaring you away. At the end of it all, you still tell me I’m vibrant and resilient, and that warms my heart more than I can express. Thank you for allaying my fears of becoming a Cynical Asshole (formal diagnosis as you all know). Thank you for making me feel strong when I feel weak. I look forward to many, many more unhinged conversations and overly analytic beta reads of your spectacular fics. I do, in fact, still expect to receive a package containing the buckets of tears I have harvested through Hourglass.
~ Riley ~
My dearest WARRIOR, sword-wielding protector Riley, co-sponsor of the Style Carry™️ who makes me spontaneously combust with everything she writes. We come together to form one joint Whump Deity as the Queen of Injury Fics and the Queen of Sickfics, and I love that everyone on ao3 GENUINELY lumps us together as one being. I don’t blame them since we really do be sharing one brain cell. It kicks ass being each other’s target audience because even with our most self-indulgent shit, mark my worms, the other WILL be absolutely blended. Whenever I’m feeling down, you’re ALWAYS locked and loaded with lizard pics and not to mention graphic illness and injury for my viewing pleasure. Your fics, bedtime stories and sneak peeks that are ALWAYS tacitly solicited bring me such an incredible amount of joy. I mean it. It was the sweet siren call of OJV that brought me to Tumblr in the first place. I am so glad to have come to the dark side and to have become a RANT girly, and I owe that all to you. You are the heart of RANT, dear. Without you we’re just ANT, and ants aren’t even that cool. Thank you so very much for being the ultimate hype gal, for being THE world’s best commenter, for reminding me to take care of Ye Olde Flesh Prison when I’m being terrible about it, and for worrying about me when I’m too stubborn to worry about myself. Your support means the world to me, my dude. Our chats and headcanon dumps have actually been the grounding force keeping me sane (ironically, since we’re so insane about Style). Keep kicking ass and avoiding creepy pizza men, okay? I love you so much and I love being NOT normal together.
@1moreoffkeyanthem @asteria7fics @boxwinebaddie
All three of you, and everyone else on this crazy website who makes me smile, THANK YOU.

The kitchen is the heart of the home, so it’s essential that it feels both functional and beautiful. However, even the most well-loved kitchens can fall victim to design faux pas that can make them feel cluttered, outdated, or less than practical. Luckily, many of these problems can be easily fixed once you know what to look for. Whether you’re gearing up for a full kitchen renovation or just looking for ways to improve the appearance of your space, here are seven things in your kitchen that are making it look bad, according to design pros. Meet the Expert Philip Thomas Vanderford is the owner and founder of Studio Thomas James, a full-service interior design firm based in Dallas, Texas. Teri Simone is the head of design and marketing at Nieu Cabinet Doors, a bespoke cabinet door company that offers luxury products at DIY-friendly prices. Heavy Ornate Cabinetry Designers agree that if there’s one thing that can instantly date a kitchen and make it look bad, it’s overly ornate and heavy cabinetry. “Overly detailed cabinetry with intricate moldings feels visually cumbersome and lacks the subtlety required for a modern [kitchen]," says Philip Thomas Vanderford, owner and founder of Studio Thomas James. "These designs often overwhelm the space and appear outdated rather than timeless." Instead, bring your kitchen into the modern era with sleek lines and slim profiles. Choose natural wood tones, warm neutral hues, or richly pigmented lacquers, all of which offer an effortlessly sophisticated appeal. Teri Simone, head of design and marketing at Nieu Cabinet Doors, says shaker cabinets are always a great choice.  “Classic shakers will never go out of style—and you can repaint them without it looking like an obvious attempt at a refresh,” she says. Want more design inspiration? Sign up for our free daily newsletter for the latest decor ideas, designer tips, and more! Dark Granite Countertops Dark granite countertops are another design faux pas to avoid if timeless and sophisticated is the goal, Vanderford says. “High-gloss, speckled granite countertops exude an era of ostentation rather than contemporary refinement," he says. "Their busy patterns can feel heavy and visually chaotic." Instead, Vanderford recommends choosing sleek, natural surfaces with softer, more organic movement. These materials bring elegance and harmony, serving as a refined yet understated focal point rather than the immediate center of attention. However, if dark and dramatic is what you crave, don’t be afraid to opt for a material like black marble for a moody feel. Over-the-Range Microwaves Over-the-range microwaves were once commonplace in kitchen design, but they’re becoming increasingly scarce, and for good reason. While practical on the surface, this clunky arrangement creates visual clutter and has its functionality drawbacks, too. For one, an over-the-range microwave means a vented range hood is out of the question. Vented range hoods, while not required, significantly help to improve air quality in the kitchen and are often preferred when available. Second, due to their location, over-the-range microwaves are susceptible to lots of grime and require more frequent exterior cleaning.   Consider replacing your over-the-range microwave with a range hood (vented or ductless) and moving it to a different location.  “Integrate a built-in microwave drawer within the cabinetry or conceal it entirely within a pantry," says Vanderford. "This subtle approach ensures the focus remains on the kitchen’s design while still delivering functionality." Overuse of Stainless Steel Appliances Stainless steel appliances are everywhere, and your kitchen is likely full of them. However, experts caution against going all-in on stainless steel in the kitchen.  “A kitchen dominated by stainless steel can feel sterile and lacks the warmth and depth expected in modern luxury spaces,” Vanderford says. Even if luxury isn’t what you’re going for, there’s no denying that stainless-steel-everything can feel a bit cold, regardless of your home’s style. Plus—the cleaning! The fingerprints! It’s not always the most practical choice either.  Instead of choosing stainless steel for all your appliances, designers suggest varying the finishes in your space. Vanderford notes that panel-ready appliances are ideal for seamlessly integrating with custom cabinetry. Alternatively, explore distinctive finishes such as brushed or matte metals to enhance your design with a bespoke feel.  Tile Countertops Tile countertops were once beloved for their charm and warmth in the kitchen. Today, however, they are a sign of times gone by, according to Vanderford. Plus, the grout lines can deteriorate and discolor over time, making them impractical long-term. “Transition to single-surface countertops crafted from finely honed materials that exude understated luxury," he says. "The monolithic quality creates a polished, cohesive aesthetic." Unless you are going for a truly retro look, designers recommend leaving this trend in the time capsule.  Dated Light Fixtures Is your kitchen still rocking the outdated, builder-grade light fixtures that came with the house? If so, Vanderford says, it’s time to swap them out. It can be easy to forget about lighting, especially in the kitchen, where more prominent features like cabinets and countertops take priority, but the right light fixture can completely transform the look and feel of a space. Consider swapping out the old, dull fixtures for something more unique and personal.  “Introduce lighting that functions as both art and illumination," Vanderford says. "Sculptural pieces in metal, glass, or textured materials create drama and depth, ensuring the lighting becomes a defining element of the space." Exposed Trash Cans It needs little explanation that exposed trash cans in the kitchen will make the space look bad. With so many modern and sleek solutions for hiding trash receptacles in the kitchen, exposed bins are just a no. It’s a dated way of thinking about kitchen storage, Simone says. Luckily, you don’t need a total cabinet refresh to hide your cans, and a fully customized kitchen isn’t necessary either. According to Simone, there are many clever storage solutions for integrating garbage, recycling, and compost into your kitchen design—no extensive renovation required. Source link

WoL vs Slay the Princess
Seeing as the only two games I play are XIV and StP when a question show up...
Narrator: You are on a path on the woods. At the end of the path is a cabin. And in the cabin is a princess. You are here to slay her.
Mneme: -sigh- Guess I'm needed for someone else's bullshit again.
Narrator: Again? Who are you? You shouldn't be aware of this. How many times have you been here?
Mneme: How many...? This is the first time. I went to bed after saving the fucking universe from the avatar of despair and I wake up here. But I need to ask... Will you leave me alone forever if I kill this princess?
Narrator: Uh... yes? I mean, given everything, I have reason to lock you in here afterwards but...
Mneme: I know I know. As long as you leave me alone afterwards and just let me sleep and enjoy myself.
Narrator: I'm still confused about saving the universe from a... wait... I...
Mneme: Are you Meteion?
Narrator: No. But I think I met this being. Many many years ago.
Mneme: And you want me to kill this princess to end the aftereffects. Got it. Hope your world has a better sgovernmental system than monarchy, cuz fuck monarchy.
Narrator: That's the spirit!
And then Mneme kills the princess good ending style and goes to sleep forever in the Long Quiet, happy their duties are finally done.

Narrator: You are on a path on the woods. At the end of the path is a cabin. And in the cabin is a princess. You are here to slay her.
Lin: Princess? Must kiss princess!
Voice of the Lost: Of course you'd say that.
Voice of the Hunter: Let's kiss!
Voice of the Princess: YES! KISS OTHER PRINCESS!
Voice of the Traveller: I'm here for this.
Voice of the Traitor: I'm... a bit confused as to the gung-ho-ness of all of them doing it, but it's just us and hero left of the awake voices who haven't voiced it, and I don't think Hero minds too much that they're all on the same page.
Narrator: Why are there so many of you? Why do you sound feminine? How many times have you been here? Why is there a goddamn voice of the Princess?
Lin: Can't talk, on my way to kiss a princess!
Voice of the Princess: Cuz I'm a princess, duh? I have a catboy husband as does Lin, but like I'm gonna stop her from kissing princesses if she wants to do that.
Narrator: But the end of the world...
Lin: Been there done that. Kissing girls now.
Voice of the Hunter: You'd kiss boys too.
Lin: Yes, and? Kissing is important!
Narrator: I'll lock you in the cabin! All of you!
Voice of the Traveller: Yeah... good luck with that. Narrative Causality has no power over us. Especially me.
Narrator: -Stuck trying to fight with multiple voices (Hero and Traitor eventually just chill and like it, while Lost screams about shitty governmental systems and where the fuck did their fucking name go? Where did everyone's name go? HEEEEELP!)-
--------
Narrator: You are on a path on the--
Teri: -Teleports out of the construct-
