Tekken 4 release date
“We were trying to do everything we could to make that date happen… maybe to scale down on the content in order to make the master release,” Harada explained, as per IGN. “Tekken 7” director Katsuhiro Harada explained to the press in Tokyo that the decision was made in order to deliver a full experience to fans. The date is a lot later than the previously promised early 2017 release window. When those two enter the building, Kazuya is suddenly taken over by the devil, who knocks Heihachi unconscious and then challenges Jin, causing him to rise with his demon powers activated.Bandai Namco has announced that “Tekken 7” will be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on June 2, 2017. After the battle, Heihachi takes Kazuya to the Hon-Maru, Mishima Dojo in the forest where the unconscious Jin is chained. Father and son face off in battle and Heihachi wins. Kazuya is declared the standard winner of the seventh stage and faces Heihachi in the final phase. Sure and in phase seven, where Jin and Kazuya will fight, Jin is ambushed and captured by the Tekken Force.
Trying to lure Kazuya and Jin, Heihachi announces the King of the Iron Fist Tournament 4, where Mishima Zaibatsu’s property is the main prize, believing that both his son and grandson will come to him to create his own. Heihachi sends his Tekken Forces to attack G Corporation and take Kazuya’s remains, but the mission fails when the Tekken Force is exterminated by none other than Kazuya himself, who has been revived by G Corporation. Meanwhile Heihachi discovers that the body of his son Kazuya, who also had the diabolical gene and whom Heihachi killed 20 years ago by throwing him into a volcano, has been stored in the laboratories of the G Corporation. Heihachi is looking for her grandson, JinKazama, who possesses the Devil’s gene but has been missing since the last tournament. The experiment fails because Heihachi lacks the necessary Devil gene.
In Tekken 4 Game,Two years after the third king of the Iron Fist tournament, Heihachi Mishima and his scientists captured blood and tissue samples from the Ogre to break up with Heihachi’s genome to make him immortal. You can also download Tekken Tag Tournament. A new Story mode in the home version unlocks scenes when played, unlike the newest episodes, where such scenes were unlocked while playing in Arcade mode. In the minigame, Tekken Force discovers having different ranks in the organization, as evidenced by the varying amounts of endurance, strength and agility. The player can gain health and powers by fending off waves of enemies. Similar to the newest minigame in Tekken 3, it features a player with an over-the-shoulder perspective as they battle wave after wave of Heihachi’s Tekken Force through 4 stages, later facing Heihachi himself. Tekken 4 for PC features a fast-paced minigame initially available called Tekken Force. Finally, the game introduced the new graphics system with improved lighting, dynamic physics and smoother surfaces. The game engine has been improved to focus more on the environment, causing characters to move more slowly and smoothly than in the Tekken Tag Tournament. These “environmental risks” in turn allowed players to juggle opponents with consecutive combos and allow designers to perform a “switch maneuver,” allowing players to escape turns and the tide in their favor. For the first time, players were able to maneuver through an arena interacting with walls and other obstacles to inflict extra damage. Tekken 4 Full Game introduced the newest major game changes to later games in the series. The story of the game reveals that Kazuya survived the fall in the volcano 20 years ago and enters King of Iron first Tournament 4 to recover the Mishima Zaibatsu. There are up to 23 characters to choose from, including 6 new ones. Putting the distinction into the plot in the home version, the game also includes many revisions to the game, such as the series ’unique ability to get the player to move before the round begins, and the introduction of embedded scenes. The sequel, Tekken Five, was released in 2005. The game Tekken 4 received generally positive reviews. It was released as an arcade game in 2001 and on PlayStation 2 in 2002. Tekken 4 PC Game is a fighting video game developed and released by Namco as the fifth main part of the Tekken series.

When Was Each Tekken Character Born?
Although we don’t have exact dates, we can actually figure out the year during which each character was born in based on the years the games themselves take place in.
First of all, based on the game’s manual itself, we know that Tekken 1 takes place in the year of its console release and Tekken 7 sorta also confirms this based on the date of the Mishima Zaibatsu’s formation, so Tekken 1 takes place in 1995. Tekken 2 is set two years after that so 1997. Tekken 3 is set nineteen years after the events of Tekken 2 so that means 2016. Finally, all the other games from Tekken 4 all the way to Tekken 7 take place two years after 3, meaning we’ve been frozen in 2018 since 2001 when 4 came out, which in turn means the Tekken universe never got to experience COVID lol. Maybe that’s why they never changed the year again xD
So, with those dates established, let’s move on to the characters!
Paul Phoenix, Marshall Law, Lee Chaolan, Baek Doo San
Paul and Law were 25 years old during the first tournament so that means they were born in 1970. Lee is the same age as these old geezers but we can clearly see who got the good genes as he still looks fucking 30 lol. Baek is also apparently the same age as these guys though he arguably looks older than all of them and looked that way even all the way back in Tekken 2
Nina Williams, Jun Kazama
Tekken’s number 1 female fighter was 20 years old when she first appeared in Tekken 1 so that means she was born in 1975. One of the biggest mysteries in the series, Jun, was herself born in 1975 as she was 22 years old in Tekken 2
Kazuya Mishima
The original game’s protagonist was 26 years old when he defeated his father in the original game, placing his date of birth sometime in 1969
Ling Xiaoyu, Miharu Hirano
Tekken’s other prominent leading lady was 16 and still in school when she started kicking ass in Tekken 3 so that means she’s a 2000 baby. Something interesting about Xiaoyu is that she’s in her last year of high school from T4 to T6 and, since for the first time ever she doesn’t have her trademark Mishima Polytech school uniform in Tekken 7, this could mean that she finally graduated?? Her bestie Miharu who made her debut in Tekken 4 is also the same age as her
King II
King II was 28 years old when Armor King I finished training him and he was ready to officially succeed the original King so that means he was born in 1988.
Hwoarang, Steve Fox, Jin Kazama
Hwoarang and his eternal rival Jin are 19 by the time they meet each other in the third tournament so that means they were born in 1997. Steve joined during the fourth tournament which is set two years after the third, and he was, and still is, 21, meaning he was also born in 1997
Lei Wulong
Super cop was 26 in 1997 so that means he was born in 1971
Heihachi Mishima
Heihachi was 52 years old when he lost the Zaibatsu to his son so that would mean he was born in 1943
Jane’s JACK, Feng Wei, Sergei Dragunov, Miguel Caballero Rojo, Tekken 1 JACK
Although he has a different body each time, the JACK robot that saved Jane was 5 years old by Tekken 2 when he found her. Ever since he got destroyed after the second tournament, Jane made it her life’s goal to save him and has been trasnfering his data to the prototype of each new JACK model from Tekken 3 onwards, meaning JACK-2, GUN JACK, JACK-5, 6 and 7 are, essentially, the same “person”. That means Jane’s JACK has existed ever since 1992. Alternatively, the moment that particular JACK-2 unit decided to develop a conscience and save Jane can be considered his “birth” year so, 1997. Feng and Dragunov are, to my surprise, only 26 years old (although they both look dangerously close to 40), so that means they were born in 1992 as well, which is sus if you ask me. Miguel is also 26 but he arguably actually looks the part. The JACK robot that fought in the original tournament shares the same year of creation as Jane’s JACK, but not the same conscisnce
Bryan Fury
Bryan was 29 years old when he started wreaking havoc in the series for the first time, during the events of the third tournament so that means he was born in 1987
Craig Marduk, Prototype JACK, Fahkumram
Marduk is currently 28 so that means he was born in 1990 and the prototype of the JACK series of robots was also brought into the world of Tekken that years as well. Newcomer Fahkumram is also 28, one of the three Tekken 7 newcomers who have their ages revealed
Christie Monteiro, Leo Kliesen
Christie and Leo are both 19 throughout their appearances in the series so that makes their year of birth 1999
Asuka Kazama
Miss Kazama is 17 years old so she was born in 2001
Eddy Gordo, Lidia Sobieska
Eddy was born in 1989 as he is 27 by the time he gets out of prison to fight in the third tournament. I’m not 100% sure about Lidia’s because her bio simply says she was 29 when she became prime minister of Poland, but the very next sentence says that she requested Heihachi Mishima removes the Tekken force soldiers he had stationed in Poland with him instead inviting her to the seventh King of Iron Fist Tournament so, while not 100% clear, it is heavily implied that her back and forth with Heihachi happens shortly after her election as prime minister
Julia Chang
Julia was born in 1998 and is 18 years old in Tekken 3, her debut game
Lili
Lili is 16 years old so that means she was born in 2002, interestingly, the year when Tekken 4 was released and started the in-game 2018 year that we’ve been stuck in ever since
King I, Bruce Irvin
The original masked wrestler was 30 during the events of the original King of Iron Fist so that means he was born in 1965. Two years later, Bruce joined the ranks of Kazuya’s Tekken Force so that means these two share a birth year
Michelle Chang, Anna Williams
Michelle and Anna were 18 years old when they joined the fight as part of the oiginal cast so they were both born in 1977
Ganryu
Ganryu was 32 in Tekken 1 so that means he was born in 1963
Kuma II
The original Kuma’s son is 8 years old in Tekken 3 so he was born in 2008
Wang Jinrei
Wang is already 82 years old and still kicking in Tekken 1 so he was born all the way back in 1913!
Bob, Forest Law
Mister Robert and Law Jr. are 27 years old, placing their dates of birth somewhere during 1991
Zafina
The myserious assassin may not have a confirmed place of birth but she does have a confirmed age of 23 years, making her year of birth 1995
Panda
Xiaoyu’s pet-bodyguard is 7 years old in Tekken and was thus born in 2009, although in Tekken 5 she tells Kuma that she’s “too old for him”...
Eliza
Eliza is 1.000 (and 4 months!) old during the T4-T7 timeline so that means she was born sometime in 1018
So there you have it! If you’ve made it this far congratulations! If your favourite character is missing then that means they don’t have an official age stated, most notably the majority of the Tekken 7 newbies. Some have speculated ages, like Lars being “around 28″ or Leroy being “over 50″ but these are too vague to take into account I think

Most Conventional Retro Gaming Console With Built-in Games
3A Games is the creator of Pandora’s Box which was recently released. Their initial release was JAMMA compatible arcade boards which can you bring updates to old arcade machines. This was the major highlight during the old days as the machine could go from 1 to 60 + games within a matter of time. 2,3,4,4S,4S+,5 and 6 are some of the well known Pandora box models.
Marketing strategy is also an aspect that not all companies can stick to. The support of 15hz CRT CGA screens was the major highlight to boost the cells for official 3A games Pandora’s box 4. Till the PB5, everything was going smooth. The manufacturers were demanding retro TV game console, PB5 and 5s versions that supported CRT. Within a few days of release, it has been confirmed that the two versions were cloned and have the old specifications derived from PB4 and chipset.
With the introduction of widescreen, the aspect ratio remained as it should be. The display proportions are the key differences with CRT. Yet, this was not a stable version and people still experienced stretching of images in their widescreen monitors and TV’s.
The major update to date came in the form of a 3D system that is used in our Pandora Box 11 plus Arcade Console. We have kept it simple for you, you can now enjoy playing by sticking to the classic arcade machines but with a whole new experience with modern 3D gaming. Our version is fully compatible with projectors and all HD TV/Monitor screens. With full high definition, you can also enjoy 1280x720 resolution through VGA or HDMI.
When compared to previous generation 480P Pandora Box versions, the experience so received is 80% more in the horizontal format and 50% greater in the vertical one. We have completely dedicated to avail you of a high-quality audio and video experience. The art of the technology that delivers a breathtaking experience is our retro game console with built in games.

We provide you with the complete list of games that will be installed in our system. With our system updates, you can either bring in your favourite game or hide the one that you don’t like. Our warranty takes care of your gaming experience, now what you have to do to is to plug in and play.
Some Of The Other Gaming Consoles In The List: -
Today's gaming world is all about continuous and quality updates, with a massive environment, impressive storylines, and most important is the amazing crystal clear HD graphics. The introduction of a retro game console with inbuilt games have made it easy e and enhanced the game playing experience.
No matter the level of hype a game has created, no matter how trendy it is, the ultimate truth is that which time people will start to lose interest. Playing a game over, again and again, will disapprove of the taste. Playing back retro arcade is a breath of fresh air that most gamers will approve. Is true that playing overtime loses interest in a game but those who have experienced the evolution of gaming will love the way they have come across.
The appearance of modern versions of the consoles is a popular update to the gaming world. The initiation of retro gaming was then a highlight. As technology is improving, the improvisation in experience has also increased. Previously the game machine used to be bulky, but now the introduction of high-end graphics, audio, simpler schematics, and smaller boards have made it easy to take full fledge. The devices that have built-in games require no additional hardware. Below we have mentioned some of the well-known retro game console with built in games.
Atari Flashback 8: -
There is a saying that goes like this, never judge a book by its cover. In the same way, the Atari gaming console surprised modern-day gamers. The console is basic looking yet has engaging 8-bit games. The Atari flashback is named because it has carried the tradition of older versions and gave it a proper blend of graphics and features. It will not be wrong if we call it a stick to the traditional approach.
PlayStation Classic: -
The Sony PlayStation has brought a revolution in 3D gaming. The 2D graphics emerged as an outstanding success. It also comes with preloaded games that were based on the preferences that players opt for. Sony always comes of with excellent titles and marketing skills. Resident Evil Director’s Cut, Twisted Metal, Final Fantasy VII, Tekken 3, and metal solid gear are some of the most popular played games on the PlayStation classic. The fun and user experience remains the same even if this version of retro TV game console is 45% more compact than its predecessor.
NES Classic: -
The trend in the gaming world was brought by the smaller and compact sizes. The Nintendo Entertainment System also did the same thing. They evolved their console size into a smaller one while keeping the look and feel of the older version. If the size factor will be excluded, it is difficult to distinguish the difference between both generations. Gamers love the consoles that have preloaded games in them. NES classic comes with 30 build-in games.
Some of the famous games it has are final fantasy, donkey Kong, super Mario, are to name a few. The gaming console is perfectly built to provide a seamless experience with high-quality audio. Unlike the three-port AV connectors, it has an HDMI port and AC adapter.
Sega Genesis Classic: -
The Sega Genesis is the console that completes the list of retro TV game console. Golden Axe, Mortal Kombat, Streets of Rage, Sonic the Hedgehog, Shining Force, are some of the most admired games that the company have given birth to. Not only these games, but the console comes with a complete overwhelmed package of 81 preloaded games. The console is almost the same size as the controllers, yet the gaming experience it gives is way beyond imagination.
Every one of them offers the gaming experience that solitary retro gamers would come to appreciate. However, something other than a flashback to age, these gaming consoles are likewise great for presenting the new age with exemplary games that are made ready for current gaming. Whether you call it a Sega, Nintendo, or an Atari, all give their best to provide you with the best gaming experience. The retro game console with built in games gives a brief look at a culture that makes players.

How Mortal Kombat Became the Best Selling Fighting Game Franchise Ever
https://ift.tt/3iOdD3F
WB Games recently confirmed that Mortal Kombat 11 has sold over 12 million copies worldwide so far. That means that the Mortal Kombat franchise has sold more than 73 million games to date, which, as some analysts have already pointed out, also means that it now appears to be the best-selling fighting game franchise ever.
For reference: Mortal Kombat – 73 million units Smash Bros. – 65.1 million units (March 31, 2021) Tekken – 51 million units (April 2021) Street Fighter – 46 million units (March 31, 2021) https://t.co/f0mhQLMzeM
— Daniel Ahmad (@ZhugeEX) July 26, 2021
While WB has confirmed the lifetime sales of the Mortal Kombat franchise to date, it should be noted that some of the other current sales figures for the other major fighting game franchises are either estimates or are based on reports that haven’t been updated quite as recently. Having said that, it certainly appears that Mortal Kombat is now the best-selling fighting game franchise ever, which is even more impressive when you consider that it was nowhere close to dethroning Super Smash Bros. for that honor prior to the release of Mortal Kombat X and Mortal Kombat 11.
So how did we get to this point? Well, the success of the Mortal Kombat franchise isn’t a sudden thing nor is it one of those sales records that somehow make us question the direction of the video game industry or the tastes of gamers. No, Mortal Kombat‘s success can instead be attributed to a series of factors that highlight just what an incredible job its various developers have done over the years and the unique place this series has in the industry, video game culture, and certainly in the hearts of fighting game fans everywhere.
The Enduring Novelty of Mortal Kombat’s Violence
Look, you probably don’t need a complete rundown of how the original Mortal Kombat‘s violence helped set it apart. At a time when violent video games were still a novelty, Mortal Kombat offered one of the most celebratory violent gaming experiences the world had ever seen up until that point. It triggered Congressional hearings, protests, lawsuits, and, most importantly for our current purposes, an incredibly successful fighting game franchise.
What doesn’t get talked about quite as much, though, is how Mortal Kombat‘s violence has remained something of a novelty even as the idea of violent video games becomes much more common. See, there was a specific era of video games in which developers were trying to use violence/extreme content to court controversy for their games (Rockstar’s excellent Manhunt is one of the better examples of that era). It was kind of like the torture porn era for major horror movies. We experienced it, the fad burned out, and many of us left a little more numb to the idea of extreme violence as a draw. More and more game studios dialed back on the idea of implementing such incredible levels of violence, not necessarily on moral grounds, but because it slowly became less of a hook/novelty.
Mortal Kombat is different. The franchise could go toe-to-toe with most of the most violent video games released over the last 30 years or so from a pure content perspective, but Mortal Kombat‘s violence has always been…fun. It’s less of a torture porn scenario where violence is meant to disturb and test you and more like an 80s slasher where the violence is so cartoonish and over-the-top that it’s often hard to take it seriously. It’s all about having fun, which is still a novelty compared to toned-down violence, violence as biting (sometimes hard to process) social commentary, or violence that is trying too hard to be controversial.
Mortal Kombat Is One of the Most “Accessible” Fighting Game Franchises
Talking about “accessibility” in fighting games is always tough. It’s a topic that draws gatekeepers who look down on the very concept of accessibility in gaming as well as those who think they’re defending a game by arguing it’s not really that accessible from a mechanical standpoint.
When we talk about Mortal Kombat‘s accessibility, though, it’s only as a positive. In fact, it’s not just about the game’s mechanics. Yes, the original Mortal Kombat games were perhaps “simpler” than something like Street Fighter, but as the series grew, it certainly adopted more complicated gameplay systems that elevated it in the eyes of some genre purists. I’d argue that modern Mortal Kombat games boast better pick-up and play credentials than some of its genre competitors, but you’re obviously not going to convince anyone who believes that is an inherently bad thing that it’s actually a very impressive quality.
No, the real magic of Mortal Kombat‘s accessibility is how the franchise’s various developers and designers over the years have maintained this aura of approachability that the series boasts to this day even as it has become a much deeper fighting game series. As we noted above, Mortal Kombat feels more fun than intimidating in a way that even some of the best fighting game franchises can’t equal. As we’ll look at below, a lot of the ways the Mortal Kombat teams over the years have achieved and maintained that image can be attributed to the elements of their games that they’ve intelligently chosen to emphasize over their closest competitors.

Mortal Kombat is More Satisfying to a Much Wider Audience
You could maybe label this idea under “accessibility,” but it’s actually a slightly different point that proves to be very important when you’re trying to comprehend the incredible staying power of the Mortal Kombat franchise after all these years. “Accessibility” is what can help get gamers in the door and form their first impressions. What matters from there is how those players feel once they start spending time with the game, and that’s where Mortal Kombat really pulls ahead of some other notable fighting game franchises.
See, whether you play on the easiest difficulty setting and enable one-button fatalities or choose to master every combo and character, Mortal Kombat is really all about performing over-the-top moves with over-the-top characters in over-the-top environments while enjoying a, you guessed it, over-the-top story. That’s the core of the Mortal Kombat experience, and it’s the big reason why you’d ever bother to play one of these games.
You can enjoy the “core” Mortal Kombat experience no matter how good you are at the game. More experienced players can enjoy an evolved form of that experience that grows as they do, but the fundamental appeal of this franchise doesn’t demand a certain level of commitment. Ironically enough, that’s often what inspires a wider audience to spend more time with it in the first place.
Mortal Kombat’s Story, Characters, and World Give it a Personality That Many Other Fighting Games Don’t Have
Again, there’s no point in arguing that Mortal Kombat features better characters, stories, and world-building than Street Fighter, Guilty Gear, Tekken, or any of the other greatest fighting game franchises. That’s obviously a subjective argument.
What’s a little easier to objectively argue is the idea that the Mortal Kombat team has chosen to emphasize those elements more than other fighting games traditionally have. Mortal Kombat initially distinguished itself from Street Fighter 2 by offering a more cinematic (and obviously violent) gaming experience, and while you can still debate about which of those games were better, that kind of experience simply reached an audience that included many who would have otherwise never paid attention to a fighting game.
Over the years, Mortal Kombat developers from various studios have stuck with what brought the franchise to the dance, so far as emphasizing those personality-based elements go. It hasn’t always been perfect, but the fairly recent decision to turn Mortal Kombat‘s campaigns into this kind of cinematic universe has only helped ensure that more people continue to follow this franchise if only to watch what happens next. The Mortal Kombat franchise slowly forced other fighters to follow in its footsteps, and it honestly still does those “cinematic” elements better, or as good, as anyone else.
Mortal Kombat Constantly Reinvents Itself
Look, the Mortal Kombat franchise is far from perfect. In fact, I think you’ll find that other fighting game franchises may just be better on an installment by installment basis. There have certainly been Mortal Kombat games that have been cleanly outsold by their competitors over the years.
Yet, that strangely makes Mortal Kombat‘s success all the more impressive. When Mortal Kombat 4 made people question whether or not the novelty of the series had passed, the Mortal Kombat team decided to drastically change their design philosophy with the release of the surprising (and successful) Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. That approach was still commercially viable by the time that Mortal Kombat: Armageddon was released, but in response to criticisms that things were starting to get a bit stale, NetherRealm Studios boldly decided to blow everything up again with 2011’s brilliant Mortal Kombat reboot.
There are few other franchises in all of gaming that have been this consistently committed to keeping things fresh even at times when “more of the same” would have been enough for many. You can point to a lot of factors that have contributed to Mortal Kombat‘s incredible success over the years, but let’s not forget that at the heart of it all are some really good games.

Tekken 7: Early access controversy and why players are not happy
Tekken 7 is rolling out its newest update with new characters, new moves, and new patches. However, some players were given early access to the new update before the official release date.
Bandai Namco Nordics announced the Tekken 7 update for November 10, but some players were given early access to the game, including new features and characters like unlocked Kunimitsu, a new stage: Vermilion Gates, new moves for every character, a balance sweep, and a new user interface.
While it does help Bandai Namco Nordics to create the hype in the gaming community, some players felt uneasy and called out Bandai Namco Nordics for the unfair treatment regarding the season 4 update.
Several players and small content creators bashed Bandai Namco for leaving all the players out in the cold, while exclusive access was given to big influencers.
The general manager and Japanese game producer Katsuhiro Harada from Bandai Namco Entertainment also jumped into the conversation with the tweet – “It is a very stupid operation. I do not comprehend the marketing sense of the European team. Moreover, you need to stop thinking that I am giving instructions all across the globe like God.”
UYU Fergus added, “So, full disclosure. We have spent the past two weeks creating these pro motion graphics to present the new moves. We did not get early access though, and now this video feels quite redundant. Oh well. Hopefully, for Tekken 8 Bandai Namco might acknowledge our existence.”
The Ireland Tekken streamer also added, “I really do not like early access being given out and permission to be streamed, it just ruins the magic of discovery. Everybody needs to have a chance to try it at the same time and find out things, not have to watch others to get information and be spoiled.”
Twitch gaming channel, AvoidingThePuddle, also highlighted the early access controversy with this tweet- Namco does not deserve the free advertising that it gets from creators. Developers should come to the realization that the game is nothing without the gamers, creators, and tournaments. I guess I will wait for Tekken 8. Perhaps they will get a clue on how to handle releasing content by then.
Conclusion
Although gaming companies tend to use such marketing tactics from time to time, using early access for competitive games like Tekken 7 can cause some severe unrest in the gaming community.
Tekken 7 is a global phenomenon, and players take immense pride in their characters, fighting style, and wins but giving out early access to some influencers can degrade the player’s motivation and the gaming community standards.

Dreamcast Fighting Games
Top 10 Sega Dreamcast Fighting Games
The Sega Dreamcast is often regarded as a less important console than its peers, the Xbox, PlayStation 2 and Gamecube. However, if you were a fighting game fan, the Dreamcast was (and still is) the way to go.
There was a significant amount of support for Fighting Games On The Dreamcast. both through official releases and through controller support. The Dreamcast had more options for gamepads and fightsticks than any other console!
Plus, arcade games that ran on NAOMI hardware (a kind of arcade system board) were easily convertible to the Dreamcast, as both were manufactured by Sega. This means that ports from the arcade were almost perfectly 1:1–even for 3D games with cutting edge graphics. Sometimes, the Dreamcast’s graphics and sound would be even better than the cabinet.
Almost every single influential fighting game franchise has had at least one Dreamcast installment or port. In this article, we’re going to run through the top 10. There’s a perfect mix of hardcore, high-skill games and casually accessible romps with friends.
10. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Heritage for the Future
If you’re already a fan of the wildly popular JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure manga and anime series, you’re definitely familiar with this game. Heritage for the Future, despite its awkward name, is a game built to please fans of the series. It has nearly every memorable character from “part 3” of the manga/anime, titled “Stardust Crusaders.”
Besides the fanservice, though, it’s a wonderful fighting game with fun mechanics. There’s a very unique “stand gauge,” which lets fighters take out their “stand,” which is a magical spirit that fights alongside them. It changes their move properties, but also makes them vulnerable; you can get put into a stunned state when you’re hit while your stand is out, and they also run out gradually.
Not every character has one, though, and there are some more “normal” characters if you want a simpler experience.
It’s worth playing even if you’re not a fan of the series, even just for the creative game mechanics and unique characters. No other fighting game has a character like Hol Horse or Dio, with his flashy time-stop super.
9. Guilty Gear X
If you were part of the fighting game community in the 2010s, you probably heard people talking about how great Guilty Gear was. It’s a franchise that went on hiatus for a long time, but in the early 2000s, Guilty Gear was hot. There’s a spectacular lineup of interesting and goofy characters. Each character has a well-stocked repertoire of extremely flashy moves; it’s much different than what you would see in games with a more grounded style.
Instead of having a gauge just for supers, X has the “tension gauge.” As the match goes on, characters can use the tension meter for super moves, counters, or an advanced technique called roman canceling. Roman cancels allow you to spend the meter to cancel attacks into others, allowing for combos that otherwise wouldn’t exist. This is similar to the FADC mechanic in Street Fighter 4, for readers familiar.X doesn’t have much in the way of single player content, so if that’s what you’re looking for, try another one of the entries in this list. What it does have, though, is some of the best visuals and gameplay out of any game on this list. The sprites in this game are of unmatched quality. (Except for later entries in the series, of course.)
8. Dead or Alive 2
This is a series known for its aesthetics and sex appeal, but when you strip all that away, the game is a great 3D fighter. During the Dreamcast era, DoA2 was considered a direct contender to Namco’s Soulcalibur and Tekken series. Not only were the graphics pristine, but it was one of the few fighting games on this list to focus on a realistic aesthetic. (Well, semi-realistic.) In many ways, DoA is a sister series to the critically acclaimed Virtua Fighter.
The foundation of this 3D fighter is an extremely heavy focus on the classic rock-paper-scissors dynamic. What sets DoA2 apart is the ability to use “holds,” even after getting hit; these act like parries and let you defend yourself in situations when you’re getting combo’d.
Quick throws also make this game play very defensively. It’s common for you and your opponent to circle each other looking for an opening. Moves are often unsafe, meaning if your opponent blocks, they can counter very quickly. Depending on your playstyle, this can be a blessing or a curse. Regardless, it’s unusual for a fighting game to have this much focus on defense, which makes it interesting and fun.
7. Project Justice (also known as Rival Schools 2)
Much like MvC2, Capcom took the 2v2 gameplay from the first Rival Schools game and turned it into a 3v3 game. There’s team-up attacks with two of your fighters, or all three. This is one of Capcom’s few forays into 3D fighters, alongside the Street Fighter EX series which came out around the same time.
The school-based setting with delinquents brawling it out over a classic shounen plot made this series a cult classic, even though it hasn’t been revisited in almost two decades. It’s considered a cult classic fighting game, which is already a genre mostly comprised of cult classics, outside of the Mortal Kombat juggernauts.
If you can get your hands on the Japanese version of the game (and have a translation document ready), give it a shot. There’s a character creation mode centered around a board game mode. The mode was never localized to any other language because of the amount of text it came with, but it’s the only fighting game with such a character creation system.
The first game did the character creation as a dating sim, if you’re into that. The gameplay is obviously more shallow, but it’s worth mentioning that the series as a whole had some pretty interesting ideas about how players can make characters.
6. Power Stone 2
The Power Stone series isn’t a traditional fighting game; it’s more of a 3D brawler with several characters in an arena perspective. Even though it’s very different from other games on this list, it has earned its spot. Flat out, it’s one of the best Dreamcast games period.
The first Power Stone was a one-on-one arena fighter that featured characters slugging it out with their bare fists and item pickups. Power Stone 2 ups the ante, with more weapons, more vehicles, and more characters. The game can be played with 4-players, making for awesome free-for-alls and tag-team matches, both in the single player mode and with your buddies.
It might not be as technical or skill-intensive as the other games on this list, but it’s just so much fun. There’s no juggling, no wall-combos, no two-frame combos and no complicated stick motions. Those aren’t necessary to make a game as simple and fun as this.
The formula has been attempted since by other companies, but never to as much critical acclaim. Power Stone 2 remains a favorite in college dorms everywhere. The cool college dorms, at least.
5. Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves
Although the company SNK isn’t as well known in America as they are overseas, Terry’s release as a DLC character for Smash Bros. Ultimate reminded the world how awesome the old school Neo Geo fighting franchises are.
Back in the Dreamcast days, SNK was hitting their stride. They didn’t have to develop exclusively for the Neo Geo anymore, meaning their franchises were able to reach a wider audience. King of Fighters went all over the place, to Xbox and PlayStation, but Garou was a heavy-hitter specifically for the Dreamcast.
Garou is the final game in the Fatal Fury series, which is adjacent to SNK’s other series King of Fighters. SNK brought many fighting games to the Dreamcast, but Garou stands out as a classic. Originally ported from the Neo Geo system, it’s been lauded as one of the greatest games made by its developer with an outstanding legacy.
You can also play the game on modern platforms. It’s been re-released on PS4, Vita, Xbox live Arcade, and PC (both through GOG and Steam).
4. SoulCalibur
For many people in the late ‘90s, Soulcalibur was the Dreamcast’s system seller. This 3D weapon-based fighter had some of the best graphics on the system and really accessible gameplay. Throw in some memorable characters and you’ve got an instant classic.
Because the game is centered around weapons and a 3D environment, the character playstyles are based more around their range and speed than anything else. Instead of having characters be defined as “zoners” and “rushdown” like in 2D franchises, Soulcalibur has a set of unique characters that are hard to classify.
Not only that, but Soulcalibur introduced the “8-way run” to the franchise, changing the series drastically from its Soul Blade roots. Movement became a lot more fluid and skill-intensive, adding an extra layer to the spacing and mix-ups already present in the game.
The gameplay elements in SoulCalibur transfer easily to the rest of the series, meaning this is a great entry point if you want to get into the franchise. SoulCalibur VI is on current generation consoles (and PC), but if you want to see where the franchise really exploded, check this one out.
3. Street Fighter Alpha 3
If Third Strike doesn’t suit your tastes, give Alpha 3 a shot. The Dreamcast version of the game has some more characters than the arcade version, and an extra single-player mode that the PlayStation version doesn’t have.
Alpha 3 features the unique “-isms” mechanic, which allows you to choose the way you want to play your character. A-ism gives your character several super moves and a three-bar gauge. X-ism gives you a single-bar gauge and a single super move, though it is more powerful than the ones you find in A-ism. V-ism gives your character more custom combo variety at the lack of super moves.
This game feels very different from others in the series due to air blocking and a depletable block gauge. These two mechanics alone almost make the game feel like it’s part of another franchise. Even if you aren’t a fan of other Street Fighter games, give this one a shot — the deep and customizable gameplay might surprise you.
2. Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike
Capcom brought the third installment of its flagship fighting franchise to the Dreamcast after its arcade release. It had three versions — New Generation, Second Impact, and Third Strike. Third Strike is widely considered the definitive version, with additional bug fixes, characters, and some content.
Even though this installment is missing some fan favorites from SF2, like Guile, E. Honda and M. Bison, it more than makes up for it with wild new additions. Hugo, Q, Urien and Makoto became instant favorites; and when all else fails, you still have Ryu, Ken and Chun Li.
Many hardcore fighting game players consider Third Strike to be the best game in the entire franchise; others consider it the best fighting game of all time. The combos are smooth, the pacing is slow and methodical, and the game’s parry mechanic has made for some of the most hype moments in gaming history. Just look up EVO Moment 37 and turn your speakers down a little bit.
1. Marvel vs. Capcom 2
If you’re looking for an arcade-perfect game with lasting appeal, look no further. MvC2 is a three-on-three fighter with a bevy of complicated mechanics and fast action. There’s a healthy roster of Marvel heroes and villains, and an even larger selection of Capcom fighters from many of their series.
One of the defining mechanics of this series is the tag-in combos, tag ultras, and assists. Unlike some other franchises with two or more fighters per player, MvC2 lets you have several characters on screen at once. Even at a casual level, the game encourages you to discover synergies and develop your own unique playstyle.
The other games in the Marvel series are great, but MvC2 has the most characters and is the last game to have 2D sprite-based graphics. Its community is alive and well today, decades after the game’s release — and for good reason.

A Long Rant About Sindel, Recycled Animations, and NRS;
(The witch is back and looks... Familiar.)
It's not bitching, it's not complaining, it's not negativity, and it's not wrong.
A lot of people are asking why is NRS recycling so many animations from previous games. With MK11 NRS has now for the 3rd time made one of the best selling games of the year, with the launch of a fighting game title (following similar headlines from Injustice 2 and Mortal Kombat X). Back to back to back best sellers. A lot of people have had complaints since it's release about balance, the roster changes, Mileena, transphobic voice actors, Mileena, the unlock system, Mileena, and now the animations.
In a tweet from Treybaile, multiple animations from Sindel were shown to have origins from Injustice 2 characters. The post claimed, "Sindel plays similar to starfire and I'm a little disappointed". Obviously this was a bad assessment to make, but begged the question, "Why is the best selling fighting game/ one of the top selling games of the year reusing old animations?" The answer is multifaceted but the initial response was obvious.
The "Toxic" NRS community;
In an overwhelming bid to suppress "negativity" the NRS community and Twitter users took to bashing the opinion and community for "negativity", "nitpicking", and "complaining" (criticism is not the FGC's strong suit whether it be dishing or taking).
A lot of MK11 players do have a very negative outlook on the game, but from the supporters excuses were made to defend NRS's choice. Okay, that's the preface, now heerreee I gooooooo.....
Other fighting games reuse animations!? Why pick on NRS?
So no one complained about Kitana, Johnny Cage, Scorpion, or anyone else having reused and altered animations. Same goes for the majority of Street Fighter and Tekken's cast. The reason for this is that a large majority of those animations form a character's identity. If Dhalsim didn't show up in SF6 and instead Ken could do fullscreen stand fierce, you might hear a complaint or two. In fact a major topic during the release of Kage was why do his buttons look so similar to Dan Hibiki's from SF4?
When someone is wondering why the possesed and undead former Queen of Edenia shares animations with 3 superheroes from another series, it's not exactly out of line. Tekken especially is a game comprised almost entirely of it's predecessors in how it animates, yet faces no ire because characters follow 2 unspoken rules; 1) they are themselves 2) they're emulating someone with the same fighting style. NRS didn't get that memo for Terminator or Sindel. Whomp whomp. Confused/Angry people don't know why they're angry and confused.
She has similar powers to those characters and NRS has a "Style"! What is she/ are they supposed to do?
In a perfect world characters are completely expressed in gameplay through their design, buttons, specials, and animations. We would hope NRS has the time/budget to make a bad guy not share moves with 3 separate good guys, and hope their animations have enough character in them to not be interchangeable. If your animations are being mixed and matched and turned into a "new character" we would hope there is a reason why within the games story.
Simply put; people expect NRS to make Sindel look like Sindel, and hope their style is wide enough that animations don't become vague copies of each other. (It is that wide, but we'll get to that later).
Why bother nitpicking such a small thing?
We all paid money for the game. We're all pouring money into the game for season passes and skins. We all see the hearts/souls/time crystals and understand NRS wants to separate us from our hard earned dollars (or in my case begrudgingly and mostly easily earned from slinging coffee). When a best selling game does something people might recognize as out of line, they are allowed to question that. NRS is not an indie developer running on 3 developers and a dream. Mortal Kombat is a multi-million dollar franchise owned by Warner Brothers with their 3rd feature film on the way. They play by corporate rules now.
They want to do things like maximize profits, and hire recently graduated students to pay less than minimum wage and lay off. Take criticism with a grain of salt. Read a glassdoor review of Capcom sometime. Video games are like a sausage factory, but the meat is some stressed out kid working months of crunch time who hasn't seen the sun since oh I don't know when.
Your scrub ass friend complaining about balance while you're washing him repeatedly with Raiden is one thing. That's bashing a game you don't know how to play. Asking, "why am I doing Injustice 2 stuff in Mortal Kombat 11?" Is a fair question that deserves a fair answer.
IN DEFENSE OF NRS;
NRS is not a lazy developer. They just look like it. Whomp whomp part 2.
MK11 is the best looking NRS game, shoulder to shoulder with Injustice 2. It is the most balanced NRS game to date (for better or worse). It is the single best looking 3D animated fighter out right now. I say this as someone who plays Tekken and Street Fighter way more seriously. The faces in MK11 look ridiculously good (except cassies weird baby smile), the characters move pristinely, elegantly, and naturally, most of the time. It is easily one of the most AAA fighting games.
However NRS is questioned as a developer very often and while that is okay, it is also, very unfair, and lends itself to their development cycle.
AAA Fighting Games;
"Every year you get a new Call of Duty, Madden, Assassin's Creed or whatever, and they all feel the same as last year's with minor changes and it sucks ass and why do we buy video games?"
Fighting games almost never seem to get this criticism anymore, despite the fact that Capcom made 4 versions of Street Fighter 4 and is on it's 2nd version of Street Fighter 5 currently, a game released in 2016. Tekken 7 has been out in Japanese arcades since March 2015 and has seen few complaints and steadily rising numbers since then.
Mortal Kombat X came out in April 2015.
Mortal Kombat X came out in 2015. NRS is working too fast.
Since Tekken 7 was released, NRS has released MKX, MKXL, Injustice 2, Injustice 2: Legendary Edition, and now MK11. Mortal Kombat/ NRS fans still complain they are getting content too slowly.
Unfortunately for NRS as well they are not working on a single franchise in these time periods as well. Alternating between Injustice and Mortal Kombat, 2 games with different mechanics, characters, and to a mild extent player bases, has resulted in a partially fractured community, and a homogonizing of identities between games. Some people don't want their peas to touch their carrots.
Furthermore, jumping from franchise to franchise faster than Tekken can complete a single cycle results in some rules being broken. Sindel owns a partial mix of Black Canary and Starfire animations because NRS wants to release a new character every two months and a new game every year.
SFV players waited nearly 8 months for 3 characters. One of them was E.Honda. he slaps his thighs a lot now. I love it.
If you want to know why animations in NRS are being recycled their are 2 clear answers;
1. They are making content for and balancing their games at a break neck speed.
2. Every developer already does this, you just don't notice because you're not comparing Tekken 7 Paul to Tekken 6 Paul. They're both going to spam deathfist at you.
And that's all! Don't feel bad for criticizing video games and don't sit around thinking any developer is out here strictly trying to be your friend and not trying to make some sweet fucking dollar bills. Obviously developers care about their communities but video games are equal parts art and sausage factory. Now leave me alone, I gotta go spend $20.00 on 500 crispy ass time crystals or whatever.
