Class Feature Friday: Obliteration Faculty (Nanocyte Faculty)
(Render of the Service Weapon as it appears in its Grip form in the game Control by Remedy Studios)
There’s a lot of fun things about the nanocyte class, and there are just so many fun ways to use nanites in and out of combat.
Perhaps one of their most offensive abilities is the ability to create weapons from their symbiotic nanites, giving them powerful tools of destruction they can never truly be disarmed of.
For today’s entry, however, we’ll be looking at a variant of the nanocyte that specializes in destruction using such created weapons. They might provide advanced targeting to pinpoint the most lethal areas of a target’s body, or they might reshape the weapon on the micro-scale to be even more lethal , or even sacrifice droves of their components to enhance the damage in other ways.
No matter the exact method, not only do these nanocytes become especially lethal against their targets, but they can use their methodology to spread the harm to other targets as well, becoming nanomachine-enhanced engines of destruction.
The weapons these warriors create are built to let nothing stop them, penetrating hard materials and even altering to accept a little extra charge (or nanite surge) to become more damaging, the latter by imbuing nanites into the projectiles or striking area for extra damage.
The nanites can even sacrifice themselves to imbue the weapon with other types of damage, superheating themselves or chilling for fire or cold, or overloading for electricity.
Whether they are left behind by a melee weapon or are carried to the target at range, these nanocytes can discharge such nanites that they spray out from the wound, carrying the form of damage to a nearby target to spread destruction, though it is naturally lighter than the initial impact.
Additionally, the guidance of their nanites makes them more accurate when attacking repeatedly.
Later on, their sprays of nanites can spread further and with an expenditure of nanites can be used repeatedly in the same onslaught of attacks.
Naturally, a nanocyte with this faculty is going to primarily be using their gear array to create weapons, as all of their faculty abilities center around such weapons. They typically only would use their sheath array when out of combat for the protective benefits and the cloud when avoidance is more important than fighting. As such, their knacks are going to be mostly made up of those that enhance their weapons or otherwise make them more effective combatants, such as heavy armor edge, material alterations, split manifestation, eldritch upgrade, heavy weapon edge, and so on. In either case, you can build them as either melee or ranged attackers with ease, or perhaps split your focus.
With their destructive abilities, the nanites bonded to these nanocytes almost certainly had an origin in combat, meant to enhance the performance of both the host and their equipment. Of course, even if that is true, the character might not have been the intended recipient. In such a case, the nanites might simply be continuing their function, or they might have adapted such combat potential as a solution for keeping their host alive and safe in a hostile environment.
Seeking information about a former client, the party singles out a xulgath member of a mercenary company who is known for being a drunken partyer. Getting him to talk should be easy, but if he discovers the ruse he’ll prove to be a dangerous combatant, his intoxication doing nothing to hamper the nanites in his body.
Rumor has it that a magitech-focused corporation is developing a method of creating hybrid magitech nanites able to enhance the host with magically-empowered attacks. In order to do so, they’ve been studying stolen aeon stone network constructs to see how each component coordinates with the others. However, they don’t realize the risk when one collection gets free and attempts to merge with the others to create a powerful distress signal relay.
Valgoth the Arsenal is an infamous pirate, named for the vast array of heavy weapons his nanites can replicate and enhance. They say he was once a super soldier serving in some warlike nation’s military, but it appears that for some reason or another, he left, choosing to ply his skills in taking from merchant vessels.

I was born when the Berlin wall fell.
My parents had more purchasing power than they'd ever dreamed of. I had more toys than they'd ever dreamed of.
When I was 7, the teachers showed us a picture of giant city under a brown smog-filled sky. They told us that this was the future.
The most fun thing to do on the new school computers was MS Paint.
I had my first phone when I was 13. It took tiny, pixilated images. My friends were fascinated.
I wrote stories and exchanged them with strangers around the world for free.
At high school, they told us we should all aim to go to university. University would guarantee us a good job, they said.
I came of age with the financial crash in 2008. My parents demanded to know why I couldn't get a part-time job.
The first time I moved abroad, I printed out maps and wrote the transit times on the back of the sheet of paper. The second time I moved abroad, it was all on my phone.
Some of us got married and had children. Some of us didn't. Some had children and didn't get married. It didn't matter any more.
If your parents had saved up, you could buy a property.
I was in my twenties and still had time. Then the pandemic happened. Then I was in my thirties.
I'm a millenial.
I'm the generation that capitalism failed.

It really is nonsense and that is why I hold on tight to CDs and DVDs but us weirdos can't do it forever. Which sucks but hey go down with a fight right? Physical stuff should not just be for hipsters it should be for anyone that doesn't need to be connected all the time. Also I hate that tech companies don't let people fix their own phones, computers and cars because people tinkering with tech is a threat to them (possibly making a better product than them)
smartphone storage plateauing in favor of just storing everything in the cloud is such dogshit. i should be able to have like a fucking terabyte of data on my phone at this point. i hate the fucking cloud
#technology#rants#be a tinkerer so you are not under the thumb of tech bros#old lady yelling at the cloud#they want us to keep consuming but never making#tech revolution

3. Entrepreneurial Spirit: The tech revolution in India is fueled by a culture of entrepreneurship, innovation, and risk-taking, with ambitious founders and talented professionals driving the growth of startups through their creativity, resilience, and determination.
4. Government Support: The Indian government has launched initiatives such as Startup India, Digital India, Make in India, and Atmanirbhar Bharat to promote entrepreneurship, innovation, and technology adoption. These initiatives provide policy support, funding, incubation, and mentorship to startups, fostering a conducive ecosystem for growth.
5. Global Recognition: Indian tech startups have gained global recognition for their innovative solutions, disruptive business models, and scalability. Several Indian startups have achieved unicorn status (valuation of over $1 billion) and garnered investment from leading venture capital firms and strategic investors worldwide.
Opportunities for Investing in Indian Tech Startups:
1. High Growth Potential: Indian tech startups operate in dynamic and high-growth sectors with immense market potential, driven by demographic trends, consumer demand, and technological advancements. Investing in Indian startups offers the opportunity to capitalize on this growth potential and generate attractive returns on investment.
2. Innovative Solutions: Indian startups are known for their ability to develop innovative solutions to address diverse challenges across industries such as healthcare, education, finance, agriculture, logistics, and mobility. Investing in startups with disruptive technologies and business models allows investors to participate in shaping the future of these industries.
3. Access to Talent: India boasts a large pool of talented professionals with expertise in technology, engineering, design, and business management. Investing in Indian tech startups provides access to this talent pool, enabling startups to scale their teams, execute their vision, and drive innovation effectively.
4. Low Entry Barriers: The relatively low entry barriers and flexible investment structures in the Indian startup ecosystem make it accessible to a wide range of investors, including angel investors, venture capital firms, corporate investors, and individual investors. This democratization of investment opportunities allows investors to diversify their portfolios and participate in early-stage funding rounds.
5. Strategic Partnerships: Investing in Indian tech startups offers the opportunity to establish strategic partnerships and collaborations with innovative companies that have complementary strengths, technologies, or market access. Strategic investors can provide capital, industry expertise, networks, and mentorship to startups, accelerating their growth and market penetration.

1. Market Fragmentation: The Indian market is fragmented and diverse, with varying regulatory frameworks, consumer preferences, cultural nuances, and market dynamics across states and regions. Navigating this complexity requires a deep understanding of local market conditions and regulatory requirements.
2. Regulatory Uncertainty: Despite government initiatives to support startups, regulatory uncertainty and bureaucratic red tape remain challenges for investors in India. Complex regulatory frameworks, ambiguous laws, and frequent policy changes can create uncertainty and hinder investment decision-making.
3. Competition and Consolidation: The Indian startup ecosystem is highly competitive, with thousands of startups vying for market share and investor attention. As a result, investors face the challenge of identifying startups with sustainable competitive advantages, differentiation strategies, and scalable business models amidst intense competition.
4. Talent Shortage: While India boasts a large pool of talent, there is a shortage of skilled professionals with specialized expertise in areas such as technology, product development, marketing, and sales. Startups may struggle to attract and retain top talent, impacting their ability to execute growth plans effectively.
5. Execution Risks: Investing in early-stage startups involves inherent execution risks, including product development delays, market adoption challenges, technology scalability issues, and unforeseen regulatory hurdles. Investors must conduct thorough due diligence and assess the startup's ability to execute its business plan and mitigate risks effectively.
In conclusion, the tech revolution in India presents compelling opportunities for investors to participate in the growth and success of innovative tech startups that are reshaping industries, driving economic growth, and creating value in the digital age. With its vibrant startup ecosystem, entrepreneurial spirit, government support, and access to talent, India offers an attractive destination for investors seeking high-growth investment opportunities.
However, investing in Indian tech startups also entails navigating challenges such as market fragmentation, regulatory uncertainty, competition, talent shortage, and execution risks. By understanding these challenges and adopting a strategic approach to investment, investors can mitigate risks, capitalize on opportunities, and contribute to the growth and evolution of India's tech ecosystem.
In summary, investing in Indian tech startups is not only a financial opportunity but also a chance to be part of a transformative journey that is shaping the future of industries, economies, and societies. With the right vision, diligence, and collaboration, investors can play a crucial role in fueling innovation, driving positive change, and unlocking the full potential of India's tech revolution for generations to come.

Mystic Smith Mystic (Mystic Alternate Class Feature)
(art by TheGentlemanCupcake on DeviantArt)
The magical crafter, be it a brewer of potions, a blacksmith that forges magical weapons and armor, or the intricate crafters of complex wonder, has long been a staple of fantasy, but while there are plenty of examples in classical fantasy, one usually doesn’t think of them in a far-future science fantasy setting. After all, most magitech is either assumed to have been made in some far-off factory or is a relic of a bygone age, with only a rare few creating custom works with the help of material printers and detailed instructions.
But does that mean they don’t have a place? Certainly when it comes to magical or hybrid tech items in Starfinder, one might naturally think of the technomancer given their focus on blending science and magic, but I feel there’s plenty of opportunity for other casters to get in on the action, and it’s clear that may agree with the mystic smith!
Whether you consider them a natural evolution of the magical craftspersons of old or simply mystics blending a bit of technomancy into their arsenal to keep themselves and their allies outfitted, these mystics forgo some of their healing and telepathic power in favor of mastering the art of binding magic to material.
Due to their specialization, these smiths are able to access and craft items of greater potency than others, and of course their mastery at such skills grows faster than others.
Additionally, they can apply fusion seals to weapons much faster and get them working similarly quickly.
Naturally, they also add repair magic to their arsenal, and gain a special reserve of energy to perform especially drastic repairs.
With a surge of power, they can flood their technomagical weapons (be they inherently hybrid tech or have fusions) with energy that helps guide their strikes and pierce defenses.
Conversely, they can also disperse the energy of a nearby foe’s weapon seals, rendering them temporarily inoperable.
While the crafting side of this option’s abilities isn’t exactly flashy, it is functional, and their combat ability to buff their own attacks with their creations and disrupt any weapon fusions the foe has, making for some good options for a more combat-focused mystic that you’re probably used to seeing. It also can inspire characters to actually create and utilize weapon fusions more often, so there is that as well, tailoring theirs and allied weaponry to the situation on the relative fly.
The workshop of a technomantic crafter in the far future no doubt looks very different than the traditional fantasy workshop, and an option like this is the perfect excuse to explore that. Consider a dwarven mystic that is content to let the machines create the alloys, but would rather personally shape the metal themselves with a hammer and anvil, or a shimreen crystal-crafter that literally cuts stones by ear, feeling the subtle changes in resonance to know when they’re just right.
Normally mustyotal agathions prefer to steal and redirect the weapons of oppressors against them, but when there seems no recourse for change that a war against oppressive upper classes, they sometimes seek out those that can provide. Such is the case with Lost Purse, who successfully managed to rescue a famed craftsman’s daughter and get her offworld where the corporation couldn’t reach her, and in return, said craftsman is churning out powerful magitech weapons in preparation for revolution. Lost Purse only hopes it can be a bloodless one.
The Golden Coins seem impossible to track down, the criminal organization covering their trail with bribes, filing off serial numbers on all their equipment, using potent amnesiac toxins and suicide pills, and the works, but the party catches a break when they find a powerful magitech plasma pistol with a distinctive maker’s mark, dropped by one of the group’s lesser lieutenants.
While a talented coral-crafter in their own right, Bak-Shuga has found themselves in a predicament when a visiting alien noble becomes enamored with their work and mistakes them for a genius and grand master of the craft. Now, the young copaxi is facing a lot of pressure to accept an invitation to craft for this noble, one they feel ill-prepared to actually live up to.

Low Tech Solarpunk
The level of tech in my personal version of Solarpunk is a lot more like tech in to 90's and early two thousands
Physical media libraries (books, video games, movies)
Phone booths
Small phones (of sustainable materials) with long battery life and with basic internet (for navigation and safety necessities etc), no apps or camera
The internet itself being more like the old internet so no algorithms, and there would be no ads other than for free events
You won't see the amount of likes, followers or views on other peoples content or profile, only on your own
Social media profiles' appearance would be a lot more customisable and fun again
Those are just some things that imo we got right the first time and honestly wouldn't mind bringing back
