Do any of those skinny teas like skinny mint or teatox actually work? Years ago I tried one for about a week but it just gave me - tmi warning - green diarrhoea and I didn’t really lose weight
Maybe those skinny lollipops I saw on insta?
I’ll try anything

"Detoxing" but scientific
So we are all exposed to toxins on a daily basis. Whether that be pesticides, heavy metals, endocrine disruptors, plastics, smoke, pollution, antibiotics (those from eating chicken and eggs, not the life saving medication) etc...
The body naturally detoxes and you don't need to do weird stuff like coffee enemas or even teatoxes or juicing. The key detoxing organs are the gut, liver, and kidneys. Skin, lungs and lymph too. Supporting these organs will help a lot.
First and foremost, eating an anti-inflammatory diet rich in fiber helps a lot. I'm already doing that, which is great. And drinking filtered water is a great new habit I adopted (we recently purchased a reverse osmosis water filter).
Using an air purifier helps too, though I haven't been using mine recently.
Eating "organic" can help. I don't eat 100% organic. I really try to base it on the dirty dozen. And the foods I eat from that list are strawberries, spinach, and potatoes (not sweet potatoes). My mom likes to get organic wild blueberries and I like those too. I can look into making some changes and I know eating 100% organic isn't realistic for me. But the dirty dozen list does come in handy. Same applies to chicken and eggs and other animal products. Wild caught fish is better, and fish tends to contain mercury which is a heavy metal harmful in large amounts.
Another thing to do is to limit plastic and heavy metal usage. Whether that be cups, cooking pans, skin care, deodorants, etc... But again this can be a little unrealistic. I'm not at this stage yet, but I do drink from a glass water bottle. No matter how much I try here, I'll always be exposed to plastic, heavy metals, and pollutants. For example, I've used aluminum free deodorant and it was a nightmare. My armpits burned so bad, and it's probably because of the baking soda. Unfortunately a lot of natural deodorants don't work.
For the gut, really eating anti-inflammatory, a lot of fiber, and going to the bathroom at regular intervals work best.
For the liver, this is a bit trickier. The liver naturally detoxes, but it requires key nutrients to do so. You may not drink at all and eat pretty healthy, but you might be deficient in key nutrients the liver needs to work effectively. It needs nutrients for phase 1 and 2 detoxification as shown here:
(Source: Nutrunity).
This is an exhaustive picture. But it shows key nutrients the liver needs to perform it's detoxification functions at optimal capacity.
B vitamins, glutathione/NAC, milk thistle, amino acids (glycine, taurine, etc...) molybdenum, sulfur/MSM, and calcium d-glucarate are useful here. DIM is not mentioned in the list, but it also helps in estrogen metabolism. I feel it's much better to support the liver with these key nutrients rather than do weird and potentially harmful juice cleanses.
Supporting liver detoxification can also help a lot here in removing toxins, including plastics, excess estrogens, and heavy metals. I'm taking a DIM Detox supplement right now which helps with this. But I want to see how I can maintain this support and habit longterm. Bitter greens and foods rich in sulfur are great for the liver. I can consider that too. Maybe I can look for a multivitamin with a liver supporting complex.
As I said, I don't drink and don't eat a lot of junk food. Based on my blood work my liver enzyme levels are very normal. But getting that nutritional boost to support both phase 1 and 2 can be extremely helpful. Also keep in mind that the liver is also a digestive organ, so it plays a role in producing bile and emulsifying/absorbing fat soluble vitamins. So it has a lot of crosstalking with the gut. A sad and sluggish liver will prevent proper nutrient absorption.
So I'll keep it up with the anti-inflammatory diet and filtered water and drinking from a glass bottle. And I know it is impossible to eliminate plastics, xenoestrogens, and heavy metals altogether. But trying to minimize somehow and supporting my liver health most importantly can help a lot. I'm taking DIM right now and I'll see how long to take it for, because it can really help. My multivitamin has a lot of the B vitamins and minerals necessary in the liver detoxification process.
I'll look more into this tomorrow. I know some herbal blends like chlorella and spirulina can help, which my first multivitamin helped. Even if I figure it all out and find a healing plan, that plan is going to take months. My doctor told me to take the DIM supplement for 3 months.

Why Detox Tea is Important for Lifespan?
Detox teas, also known as "teatox" or "flat tummy teas," have surged in popularity, often promoted on social media as natural beverages brimming with healthy ingredients like oolong tea, mate leaves, peppermint, ginger, and lemongrass. However, many of these teas contain senna leaf, a laxative commonly found in weight-loss products, which can result in temporary but unhealthy weight loss.
For thousands of years, people have engaged in various detox practices, including consuming detoxification teas, under the belief that these beverages cleanse the body of toxins. While detox teas can be generally healthy, regular consumption over extended periods can lead to digestive issues, dehydration, and potentially adverse effects on heart rate, blood pressure, and electrolyte balance.

Health update - hormones
I got some help today regarding hormone balancing. As I said I believe my skin inflammation is caused by hormone imbalances.
My doctor recommended I eat an anti-inflammatory diet, continue to fast but not 2 weeks before my period, to take DIM for 3 months to correct my estrogen dominance (I might get the Pure Encapsulation one), and to limit my intake of foods that contain phytoestrogen like edamame, tofu, flaxseed, and chia seeds. There are other foods that contain phytoestrogens that I like, but I won't cut them out. I can still take the DIM.
Here's an article that talks about how intermittent fasting influences women's hormones:
According to my doctor, I have estrogen dominance. The inflammation is not really due to 1 hormone, but it's really an interaction of multiple ones. I was told that DIM would be better for me than something like chasteberry/vitex for my estrogen dominance. I have a P/E2 ratio of 48.3. The ideal ratio range is 100-500. Based on my bloodwork, my hormones are in the normal range. But even so, my estrogen and progesterone balance is off. This might be contributing to my skin inflammation, though I don't really have any other key symptoms of estrogen dominance. That's why doing blood work helps a lot here because I wouldn't have guessed it myself (I didn't even know what estrogen dominance was).
Estrogen dominance can cause histamine overload and therefore, allergic reactions, inflammation, elevated IgE, eosinophilia, and skin rashes/eczema. Based on my blood work my histamine levels are fine. But I have high levels of IgE and eosinophilia.
Now I don't really experience allergies, my mom does and it gets really bad for her.
Also I'm on anti-anxiety meds which can help with anxiety, stress, and cortisol.
I ordered the Pure Encapsulation DIM Detox supplement. It has DIM and other ingredients that support estrogen metabolism. It also contains ingredients that help with liver detoxification like milk thistle and some amino acids, as well as other ingredients that support phase 1, 2 and 3 liver detoxification. This can really help in general because sometimes women experience estrogen dominance because their liver isn't metabolizing it as effectively as it should, meaning it can receive some support. I also get the benefit of liver detoxification support. I don't drink nor do I eat a lot of fatty, greasy fried foods. But regardless it would be worth taking some sort of liver aid here and there because it's such a busy organ, like the gut, that plays a role in removing toxins yet can get overburdened. Supporting the gut and liver can be great for general detoxing of metabolites, chemicals, toxins, and heavy metals without having to do weird and uncomfortable unscientific detoxing methods like coffee enemas or teatoxes.
Thankfully I've been experiencing less and less inflammation when I quit fasting. Not 100%, but it's getting better. I know it's because I'm supporting my hormones. I'm going to cycle fast and I'm going to take the DIM detox supplement and I'll see how I feel after a month.
I know balancing my hormones will really help in this case.

Skinny Teas?
I don’t think skinny teas work, or at least not in the way people might think they do. Personally, my theory is that people are looking for a “get thin quick” approach which leads them to search for an easy solution. In this way, the design and marketing of skinny teas in genius.
The formulas of a lot of these teas contain senna leaf, which is a diuretic. Drinking it daily will add water into your system to keep water weight down while the diuretic effect keeps the weight you’d see from bowel movements down. This all leads to a less bloated appearance and apparent “weight loss”. But honestly why spend all that money on some hyped-up leaves. If you really want to try a “skinny tea” you can always just make your own. If more expensive loose leaf tea is out of your budget you can find cheaper store brand teas that have the ingredients you’d usually find. You can then empty out the tea packets and put them in a separate container to make a personal blend. Then either using the tea bags you can fill yourself or a mesh infuser, you can then make your “detox” tea. I did a breakdown of pricing per oz below the cut if you’re interested
Something unusual that I also found, is unlike other normal tea brands, it is much more difficult to find the product weight. It isn’t mentioned in the descriptions or in the name. It only states how many days it’s for. Bootea and SkinnyMe, for instance, was basically impossible to find. I looked at pictures posted by other people of the packaging and cannot find the product weight.
For the homemade tea blend, who’s “ingredients” I’ve included, the calculated price came to be $3.27 per oz.
Flat Tummy Tea 4 week cleanse came to $24.37 per oz as they only include 2.01oz of product.
Skinny Teatox 28 Day cleanse came to be $21.67per oz normally, but with the current sale, it brings it down to $10 per oz with the total product given being 2.40oz. Better but not great
Teami “skinny” blend comes with 2.30oz and their price per oz comes to be $13.03. If you buy one of their detox sets like the “30:7 Best Detox 40 Day Cleanse” It will take the price down to $11.39per oz.
I think I’ve given enough evidence to persuade you that if you really want to do a detox, find ingredients that YOU want in your tea and you can make a much cheaper blend.
Here is my Homemade Detox Tea Recipe using the cheapest I could find with included oz and prices. The tea haven tea is online and you have to pay to ship it, bringing the price up, but if you’re ok with a blend. The Walmart Great Value brand “throat soother tea” has marshmallow root and licorice root, another common detox ingredient, and it is cheaper than the pure marshmallow root tea.
