Getting into nv

So like the title says, I’m going to be doing a series of posts and videos on my YouTube channel of the different items I acquire while just starting to get into night vision. This post is going to be covering my helmet set up and all the different components that have gone into it .

So starting off, I went with the ops core Fast bump helmet. I got mine in foliage green and I ordered it from the night vision company for just over $300. Overall, I feel like you pretty much have two options when looking at helmets you can either get an ops core or a team Wendy And I have multiple friends of mine that have the ops core helmets and have had nothing but success with them.

Next up is in my opinion, one of the parts that you don’t necessarily need, but it doesn’t hurt to get especially while you’re ordering all the other stuff at the same time. That being said, I went with the agilite gen 4 helmet cover in Ranger green. Overall it’s pretty nice. It takes a little bit of time getting it fit correctly but that’s to be expected. I do like that it gives you a ton of Velcro for mounting things like your counterweight your retention device, etc.

Next up is a vital peace from what I can tell, that is the counterweight system. I ended up going with a tnvc mohawk mk1 gen2. Overall I like that this has a ton of Velcro so it’s very secure on the helmet cover. It also gives you some elastic cord on top for holding whatever else you need or routing cables or anything like that. The counterweight pouch itself has a nice placard with eight battery loops on it to keep all the spare batteries you need in the back. It also comes with four weights that will fit inside of the pouch.

The next items are a couple of extras that I added on to my order, which are the kinetic consulting nerd. I mainly got that because they had them in stock and from everything I can see online a retention device is definitely necessary when running night vision. Next I picked up a unity, spark, ir marker light. I like these because they’re very inexpensive coming in at $16 versus some of the other more high priced options. Super simple it’s one single button on the inside and these are considered a throwaway item so after you get the I think 200 hours of use out of them he just pitch in and grab a new one. And last, but not least I picked up a military surplus rhino mount for a very good price from full metal jacket surplus. In my opinion, if you’re first getting into night vision, these are the way to go and then depending on your needs upgrading the mount from there.

The last two items I am going to be ordering here in the next few days. Other than the PVS 14 itself are going to be the Safari land liberator hearing protection with the arc rail mounts, and I am thinking I’m going to order a Inforce IR weapon light to run on the side of the helmet. Both of which are available from brownells for very reasonable prices. mainly because they are fairly well priced and I don’t think it would hurt to have one for some extra IR lighting. Overall everything is coming together very nicely as I hoped it would and I’m very excited to finally order the PVS 14 night vision device here in the next two weeks.
