It is the nature of the news cycle that huge things get passed over.
But what happened just over a month ago in Israel should not be passed over.
The scale and catastrophe of what happened is still becoming clear.
Yet the world seems to have moved on.
Already the international media are focused not on the atrocities Hamas committed against Israel but on the response of Israel to the terrorists of Hamas.
Every day the New York Times and other papers give their views on how Israel should bring the war to a draw.
And every day there are protests across the world made up of people who are either evil or ignorant.
That some of the anti-Israel protesters are ignorant is provable.
Two girls interviewed at one pro-Hamas protest in London were asked what their reaction was when they first learned that Hamas had attacked Israel on October 7.
“I don’t believe they did, did they,” said one.
“Honestly, I think I need to be a bit more clued up on everything that’s going on, so I feel I’m not really qualified to answer that too well,” said the other.
Well, she appeared to feel “qualified” enough to turn up at an anti-Israel demo.
Her friend, holding a banner, actually said, “I mean, I’m not sure I’ve seen anything that shows that that’s actually happened.”
These two ignoramuses should have come to Israel with me this week.

David Nir for Public Notice:
Donald Trump's plan to stock his cabinet with the most appalling MAGA nihilists hinges on the obeisance of one man in particular: House Speaker Mike Johnson. And given Johnson's track record of cowardice, Trump may indeed get what he wants — and demolish a pillar of democracy along the way. The crescendo of increasingly nightmarish picks like Tulsi Gabbard, Matt Gaetz, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. almost makes Liz Dye's take here at Public Notice — that Trump is trying to install the crowd at the Star Wars cantina — seem too kind. So beyond the pale are Trump's worst choices that even some Republicans in the Senate are balking. And it's worth remembering that many Trump nominees during his first term in office withdrew from consideration in the face of GOP inaction or hostility. But whether or not Republican senators are inclined to revert to subservience and greenlight these nominations, Trump is already armed with a plan to bypass the confirmation process entirely. He wants to fill vacancies without a confirmation vote by making so-called recess appointments when the Senate is not in session — a power granted to him by the Constitution. And he has a path to do it.
A will and a way
For many years, Congress has not actually taken a formal recess, precisely to deny presidents the ability to side-step lawmakers. Trump, though, has demanded that the Senate resume the practice of adjourning itself so that he can ram his picks through without any oversight. The GOP's new majority leader, John Thune, replied submissively to Trump’s demand, saying on Fox News last week that "all options are on the table." And Johnson echoed that sentiment on Fox News Sunday yesterday, saying of recess appointments that “there may be a function for that.” It turns out that, even for a legislative body that often convenes for just three days a week, it's surprisingly difficult for the Senate to take a proper, on-the-books break. Such an adjournment requires a majority vote, which even Thune acknowledged might be "a problem" for some Republican senators. But even if Senate Republicans could muster a majority, a motion to recess can be amended, as Semafor's Burgess Everett notes. That means Democrats could hold up such a motion indefinitely, unless Republicans were to unilaterally change Senate rules regarding recesses — a move Everett calls "a smaller-scale version of the 'nuclear option'" that might also have a hard time garnering 50 votes.
[...] It's still possible none of this comes to pass. The Senate could, for instance, retain a fig-leaf version of its right to vet nominees by simply rubber-stamping Trump's picks, no matter how odious or unqualified. It looks like Thune will be able to spare three votes in the Senate, after all.
The Downballot publisher David Nir wrote in Public Notice that House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) could plan to upend the advice and consent traditions of the Senate by jamming through recess appointments.

Chapter one: The something that is
Part i : Of mortals and men
First *ੈ✩‧₊˚ Next
Saviour of Souls masterlist
tw: Blood, Violence, implied death
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
“At the beginning of every story there is nothing- at least, nothing noticeable. To have this nothing… It is something of a necessity. For with it, it gives everything meaning. You appreciate that you have so much more when you had nothing to begin with.
Much the same to our own universe, at the beginning, there was nothing of particular note. A vast sea of this nothingness —potential— with no one to observe it. Such things may not be inherently nothing themselves, existence gives meaning. But observation makes meaning. An existence of something means nothing if there is no one to appreciate it. And so was the fate of our universe, to lay dormant. That is, aside from three sisters. Their minds grew restless with the potentiality of their lives. To sit, and to wait until something changed at last. And within their vast expanse of nothingness, they combined together the best of their attributes to make something. To make a change.
Din, the eldest of the three, with her fiery persistence and rage moulded earth. She made rock and mountains, a raging volcano left as the mark of her magic. With all her power, she created land. The middle sister, Nayru, known for her wit and intellect, doused the stiff earth with water. She softened the grounds and made rivers, oceans, clay and soil. And with the water she brought upon the world, she placed her magic within the highest, coldest peak. With her knowledge, she nourished the earth so that it may persist. And the youngest sister, Farore, known for her strong will and bravery, used her magic to inhabit the land. She made trees for Din’s earth and fish for Nayru’s rivers. She populated every plane and mountain with a small piece of her magic. With all her courage, she made gifts to the world, rather than a gift to herself.
For a while this world was content, and the goddesses watched adoringly as the earth would shift, eras coming and going, tides pushing and pulling. But with their gift of creation, they brought destruction. With somethingness, there was nothingness. With light, there was dark. With life, there was death. This absence pulled at them, punishing them in some odd way for their creations. The void gave birth to the sisters, its power split between the three and equal to that of itself. But in making their world, they’d tipped the even scales of fare past what the gods could control.
Watching their beloved creation fall apart, the goddesses agreed to use their power to keep their creation whole. They scattered what was left of themselves, leaving parts of their divinity marked upon the world. And though their power was thinned and death clawed at their fading forms, they left two final gifts to us. They left the triforce, their very presence focused down into nothing more than a relic, capable of granting any wish. It’s said to hold a shard of each goddess’s heart and is bound together by their love in one another and for the world they managed to make. But such power could not coexist with the destruction seeping across the world. They created a protector, Hylia. A goddess so kind that she embodies the best attributes of each goddess. She holds Din’s burning determination, Nayru’s sense of keen judgement and Farore’s daring kindness. Through the seams of reality, that evilness that festered in the cracks of the world had not settled, and too, gave two faults. Ganondorf, a being of Demise, hungering for the power of the triforce that he’d stop at no mortal law to possess. For every kind gift the goddesses gave, Demise sought to destroy. And the grace of Hylia bore Nir. A goddess of fickle wishes and born without a heart. Where our goddess brings us light and life, Nir brings darkness and death. But so with the world, light prevails. Ganon struck down by a hero wielding a blade of divine light and Nir chained down by Hylia’s spirit. Now, Hyrule as we know it lives in content balance. And while the night still falls, we can revel knowing that the sun will soon rise.”
Link smiled down at the group of kids all crowded around his feet. Their scrawny, underfed frames contrasted by beaming wide grins with missing teeth. The sight was uncomfortable. The children of Castle town were far different. Their clothes had no holes and he couldn’t see their bones through their skin. He’d never have stopped here if it weren’t for the spirit sightings. Sure, the kids were cute, but he’d have to watch his rupee bag.
“Oh! Is that how you got your sword?!”
“What about Zelda?!”
“I wanna know more!”
Soon, each little child chirped up, hungering for another story atop the many he had already told. The children at his feet bickered with one another as he tried to pick a story out that would satisfy them. The stories of his predecessors? Perhaps. But the Heroes of Legend were well known throughout even the smallest secluded hamlet. It made no difference this one was wartorne. He hardly even made it past that thought before the door to the small hut was slammed open, the rotting wood splintering.
“Th-There’s-“ The old man at the door sputtered and held his abdomen as one of the children ran at him.
“Opa? Opa!” The old man slumped over, sinking to his knees and rasping out bloody breaths. Link moved before he could’ve thought to stop himself. Such a skill had afforded him his life when he killed ganon. Sometimes, bravery leaves no room for forethought. Such is the way of courage.
“Sir, what happened” The man hacked and hacked, his hands trembling as they clutched his ribs. Removing the cold bony joints was probably not wise to the room full of children, the skin greying and peeling from his wound in a fashion Link had come to know well.
The dusty streets weren’t bustling with idle chatter and the poor folk running their errands as he’d grown accustomed to during his stay. There was a stark silence like that of nightfall, when the world is supposed to be still. His blade was familiar in his hand, ready to cut down what opposed him. There was an ear-splitting screech and his gut sank. Skin stealers. He felt the chipped teeth gnawing at his skin, sawing past his clothes. It skittered to the ground with a fleshy smack, its hollow eye sockets flexing around nothing. It chittered its teeth, waiting for a sound to hunt down. It’s bones popped and cracked as it circled, a warbled coo coming out of its undulating throat. Link didn’t let the waste of a soul live. The grey patchwork of its skin wouldn’t likely let it anyway. Its death would bring it back to Nir. Where she’d find some way to send her wicked beasts upon him again— he’s sure. Looking at the bony corpse, Link felt curiosity above the disgust. Such vile things waited until night until they could not be watched by Hylia. They preferred the silvery glow of Nir and her cover of darkness. But this one was out among broad daylight. The cloudy sky cleared and the voice of his goddess was warm in his mind, drowning out the panic of his thoughts.
“Hero…”
“Link…”
“Hear my call upon you…”
“… Or the sun may set on Hyrule again”

The future of circular economy: Breaking barriers in PET thermoform recycling
PET is one of the most widely recycled plastics globally, with bottle-to-bottle recycling already an established circular system. However, thermoformed PET packaging, including clamshells, blister packs, and food trays, still lacks adequate recycling infrastructure. Recycling these PET thermoforms is essential for transitioning to a truly circular economy, as worldwide obligations for recycled content may cause a shortfall in the supply of bottle recycles; PET thermoform recycling can ensure a new stream of valuable PET material.
Barriers to recycling PET thermoforms
PET thermoforms are commonly used for consumer goods, electronics, and fresh produce packaging. They offer versatility, clarity, and superior machine compatibility at a low cost. The problem arises when these packages end their life; PET thermoformed trays and clamshells do not easily fit into existing PET recycling streams, as they are contaminated with food, labels, inks, and adhesives. This has led to lower collection and recycling rates, with most thermoforms ending up in landfills.
Emerging advancements in PET thermoform recycling
However, new efforts are emerging to close this loophole. Advanced sorting facilities can now separate PET thermoforms from single-stream collections. Technologies such as Near-Infrared (NIR), Density Separation, Optical Sorting, X-ray scanners, and even AI-powered industrial robot sorting allow proper identification of PET thermoforms for recycling. The next step is reintroducing this recycled PET content into manufacturing supply chains.
Opportunities for companies to embrace circularity
Brands across industries are gradually recognizing the need to incorporate recycled PET from thermoformed packaging into new packaging. Doing so minimizes plastic waste while extending the circularity of PET material beyond PET bottles. Such tray-to-tray recycling was not possible in the past.
Overcoming challenges through collective action
The biggest challenge lies in securing a consistent supply of rPET (tray-to-tray) material at scale. This requires greater adoption of deposit return schemes, partnerships with waste management firms, and consumer awareness regarding the importance of better managing PET tray waste to keep this valuable input resource in the loop. Stakeholders must understand that the long-term environmental benefits outweigh the initial investments.
Realising the circular economy potential
Sourcing rPET from thermoformed packaging distinguishes a company as an environmental steward. It will also future-proof businesses against plastic regulations and taxes more cost-effectively in the long term. By supporting thermoform recycling infrastructure, companies enable the shift towards a circular economy, where plastics retain value instead of spilling into ecosystems.
The technology for thermoform-to-thermoform recycling already exists. What is needed now is a collective effort by brands, manufacturers, and consumers to prioritize these processes. Companies now can lead this change for the health of our planet.
To learn more about closing the loop with PET thermoform recycling, contact AVI Global Plast at +91 022-68559300 or [email protected]. We supply rPET punnets to clients across industries, including fresh produce, which gets collected after delivery, recycled by our partner recyclers, and supplied back to AVI as rPET flakes for new punnets—enabling a circular economy.

13-year-old released hostage: 'Civilians hit me in Gaza'
Eitan Yahalomi, 13, kidnapped to Gaza on October 7, and released in a November 2023 deal, speaks about the kidnapping and his first days in captivity.
Eitan Yahalomi, who was kidnapped from his home in Kibbutz Nir Oz on October 7, 2023, and held captive in Gaza, spoke about his kidnapping and the first days in captivity.
Yahalomi, 13, was released in a November 2023 prisoner swap.
"When I came into Gaza, I saw a lot of people," Yahalomi shared with the "Children of October 7" project. "Civilians hit me, I started hearing gunshots and shouts in Arabic. I was a little scared."
He added, "The terrorists showed me video clips where they killed people, they were happy. I didn't look to the side because they didn't allow me, but I also saw things in the real world. I think about it all the time."
Yahalomi, whose father is still held in Gaza, said, "I ate a pita a day, and a cucumber. Now I don't sleep a lot, it's as if I went through the worst possible, and that's it."
When asked if he was aware of what was happening in Israel, he said, "Yes, they showed me videos of them killing people. They were happy."
When asked if he tried not to watch the footage the terrorists showed him, he responded, "No, at any rate he wouldn't have allowed me. I saw worse things. I think about it all the time."
Yahalomi's father, Ohad, is still held captive in Gaza. Ohad's sister Ayala told Israel National News - Arutz Sheva, "Ohad lived in Nir Oz with his wife and three children that morning - not anything unusual. Unfortunately they woke up to the sound of sirens and missiles falling - but they quickly understood that something else was happening."
"Slowly, slowly, they began to hear voices in Arabic outside, 'Itbah al Yahud' (kill the Jew -ed.), and 'Allahu akhbar,' (G-d is great; a phrase commonly said prior to carrying out terror attacks - ed.), and they quickly understood that there were terrorists around their home. Afterwards the scale of it was understood, and that hundreds of terrorists were inside Nir Oz."
"Ohad at some point - because the door of the bomb shelter did not close - he chose to protect his family from outside the bomb shelter. He closed the door on them with the intention of protecting them. At some point, the terrorists just broke into Ohad's home, fired at him, injured his limbs, his hand and thigh, and the moment they had him down and he sat on the floor they opened the door of the bomb shelter, where his wife Batsheva and three children were."

"This feature length investigation by Al Jazeera’s Investigative Unit exposes Israeli war crimes in the Gaza Strip through the medium of photos and videos posted online by Israeli soldiers themselves during the year-long conflict. The I-Unit has built up a database of thousands of videos, photos and social media posts. Where possible it has identified the posters and those who appear. The material reveals a range of illegal activities, from wanton destruction and looting to the demolition of entire neighbourhoods and murder. “It is a treasure trove which you very seldom come across… To have that is something which I think prosecutors will be licking their lips at”, says international law expert, Rodney Dixon KC. In social media posts, soldiers frequently make little pretence there is military logic behind their actions. “We, Company C Commando Engineering Corps, decimated a whole village as revenge for what was done to Kibbutz Nir Oz on 7/10,” wrote Capt Chai Roe Cohen of the 8219 Commando Engineering Battalion, following the destruction of the town of Khirbet Khuza’a between December 28 and January 9. The film also tells the story of the war through the eyes of Palestinian journalists, human rights workers and ordinary residents of the Gaza Strip. It exposes the complicity of Western governments – in particular the use of RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus as a base for British surveillance flights over Gaza. Information gathered is “passed to the Israeli authorities” – supposedly to facilitate hostage rescue. The film examines a video placed online by members of Israel’s Paratroopers Battalion that shows at least three unarmed men being shot by snipers. The I-Unit also reveals horrific new details of the treatment of prisoners at the Sde Teiman detention centre. “The west cannot hide, they cannot claim ignorance. Nobody can say they didn’t know,” says Palestinian writer, Susan Abulhawa, who spent time inside Gaza earlier this year. This is “the first livestream genocide in history … If people are ignorant, they are wilfully ignorant,” she says."
This shocking documentary exposes the scale of Israel's crimes in Gaza.

The Evolution of Wheat Flour Manufacturing Over the Decades
Wheat flour, which almost every kitchen in the world possesses, has a highly interesting history. From a human ingenuity and technological progress perspective, wheat flour manufacturer has gone through many changes over the decades. In this paper, how the processing depth of wheat flour evolved will be discussed with major developments in the industry that gave rise to the modern wheat flour manufacturers.
Wheat Flour Milling Early Days
On a broad perspective, in ancient times wheat was grounded by manual operations using simple tools and equipment, mortar, and pestle. The heavy operation produced coarse flour, far away from the refined products we use today. Early civilizations such as Egyptians and Greeks developed crude methods for milling, which set the stage for even more advanced ones.
The Advent of Wind-Powered Mills
The next quantum leap forward was with the wind-powered mills in the 12th century. These huge wooden wheels were turned by the wind to grind wheat into flour. This started increasing the production capacity and cutting down on manual labour, thus allowing the next step: the industrial revolution in milling.
Steam-Powered Milling Revolution
In came steam-powered milling in the 19th century and revolutionised the way flour was manufactured. Steam engines provided consistent power; thus, mills were enabled to work more effectively on a larger scale. For the first time, large-scale wheat flour manufacturers appeared who could produce flour in quantities hitherto unimaginable.
Roller Mills and Modernization
It was not until the late 19th and early 20th century that roller mills were re-introduced to the industry. These worked by crushing and grinding wheat into finer and more even flour via a set of steel rollers. In Roller mill, the better separation of bran and germ from the endosperm was achieved, hence higher quality products.
The Role of Automation and Technology
Over the past decades, automation and high technology have also been transforming wheat flour manufacturing. The computerised mechanisms in modern mills govern and track every process. Hence, accuracy, uniformity, and speed-appreciable qualities a modern wheat flour manufacturer must possess-are definite.
Sustainable Practices in Wheat Flour Manufacturing
As such, sustainability has become the prime focus of wheat flour producers of this modern age. Reductions in energy consumptions and wastes, and overall greener mode of production has become an inseparable part of business. Innovations such as water recycling systems, and energy-efficient machinery enable the mills to minimise their impact on the environment.
Quality Control and Safety Standards
Modern wheat flour producers are supposed to adhere to high standards of quality and safety. Such testing procedures as NIRS- Near-Infrared Spectroscopy verify the quality of flour, whether or not it meets specific high standards of quality. Such standards remain necessary in instilling confidence among consumers; they also mean the assurance of food items' safety.
Effects of Globalization
Globalisation brought great change in wheat flour manufacturing. The sharing of knowledge, technology, and trade added to easy availability of quality flour across borders. Greater connectedness tugged at competition, forcefully compelling manufacturers to continue innovating and improving their products.
Specialty Flours and Consumer Preferences
Today's consumer wants more specialty flours such as whole grain products or gluten-free products, and wheat flour producers make an array of these products besides trying other ways of milling. This in itself is proving that the industry can also shape itself to face the requirements placed upon it by consumers.
Wheat Flour Manufacturing: A Glance into Its Future
Even more innovations in technology and sustainability will continue to shape the future of wheat flour manufacturing. New technologies, such as AI and blockchain, can enable the industry to further enhance performance, traceability, and transparency.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. How has automation affected wheat flour manufacturing?
Much of this efficiency and precision has been gained by automation of the wheat flour manufacture. Use of computerised systems for much of the process provides assurance of consistency and minimum human error.
Q2. What is a roller mill, and what explains their wide usage?
Roller mills grind wheat into flour using steel rollers, finer and more regular than stone-ground flour. They allow a better separation of bran and germ from the endosperm, hence the assurance of better quality flour.
Q3. What does sustainability do for wheat flour manufacturing?

This book is a breath of fresh air for founders overwhelmed by traditional business advice. Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman Nobel laureate Daniel Kahneman's "Thinking, Fast and Slow" explores the two systems that drive the way we think—System 1, fast and intuitive, and System 2, slow and deliberate. Understanding these systems can help founders make better decisions, avoid biases, and understand their customers' behavior more deeply. This book is a fascinating read for anyone interested in the psychology of decision-making. How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie Despite being published over 80 years ago, Dale Carnegie's "How to Win Friends and Influence People" remains a timeless classic on interpersonal skills and leadership. Carnegie's principles on how to communicate effectively, win people over, and lead without arousing resentment are as relevant today as they were in 1936. We must grasp the reality that Hamas continues to engage the IDF using Palestinian refugees as human shields. At the same time American Protestors are refusing to call out Hamas for their provocative actions. This is not offer any excuses for the 'Zionist' led Israeli government and military which continues to conflate their racist policies with antisemitism. American critics and Protestors of Israel, are actually Anti-Zionists not Anti-Jewish...."The Biden administration is concerned that Hamas’ deadly rocket attack over the weekend has led Israel to fast-track its timeline for a military operation in Rafah, according to a senior administration official and a U.S. official.
Violence in the southern Gaza city spiked on Sunday after Hamas militants fired rockets from near the Rafah crossing, killing four Israeli soldiers. Israeli fighter jets struck targets in Rafah overnight, including a humanitarian aid location the Israel Defense Forces said on Sunday was used as a staging ground for the rocket attack.
Then on Monday, the IDF ordered civilians in a limited section of the city to evacuate to a “humanitarian area” in al-Mawasi, an area along the Mediterranean.
The moves, combined with snags in cease-fire negotiations over the weekend, reflect that Israel may be accelerating its plans to invade Rafah, U.S. officials said, though they stressed that the operation is limited in scope for now and doesn’t necessarily represent the initial phase of an all-out invasion.
“The rocket attack confirms their fear, you still have this pocket there that gone unchecked or left alone will continue to foment violence or pose a threat,” said the U.S. official, who like others was granted anonymity to detail sensitive internal thinking. The attack combined “with the lack of progress in the hostage negotiations, they are inclined to begin pressing.”
The U.S. was unaware that Israel would issue an evacuation order for 100,000 people in Rafah on Monday, a second senior administration official said, sending top U.S. aides scrambling to understand the reasoning. President Joe Biden spoke with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday in a quickly scheduled call, National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson confirmed, a sign the White House moved swiftly to get a grasp of the situation.
Hamas announced Monday that it agreed to a hostage deal presented to it by Egypt and Qatar. But it’s not clear it’s the proposal Israel and the United States support, meaning a cease-fire may not be imminent. “We are still reviewing the response that has come in,” said State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller, who repeatedly refused to get into specifics during a news conference with reporters.
The events present a precarious moment for Biden, who has repeatedly urged Israel to refrain from a full-scale invasion of Rafah without a comprehensive civilian protection plan in place. He faces the possibility of having to more openly break with Netanyahu, which would involve insisting he pull back from sending thousands of Israeli soldiers into a treacherous war zone where about 3,000 Hamas fighters hide in a sprawling tunnel network.
IDF spokesperson Maj. Nir Dinar said the orders his fellow troops received are for evacuating “a certain part of Rafah” and “to keep civilians out of harm’s way.”

"Hamas terrorists who carried out a surprise attack on October 7 were found to be under the influence of Captagon, a synthetic amphetamine-type stimulant that has been clandestinely produced in southern Europe and trafficked through Turkey to the consumer markets on the Arabian Peninsula, as reported by Nir Dvori of Channel 12.
This stimulant drug, also known as the "cocaine for the poor," allowed the terrorists to commit heinous acts with a sense of calmness and indifference. Simultaneously, it kept them highly alert for extended periods and suppressed their appetite.
Captagon gained notoriety in 2015 when it was discovered to be used by ISIS fighters to suppress fear prior to carrying out terrorist operations. As the influence of terrorist organizations like ISIS diminished, Lebanon and Syria took the reins and began producing and distributing the drug on a large scale."
The pills were recovered from the pockets of many terrorists who lost their lives on Israeli soil.
Add Lebanon and Syrian aiding Hamas in this mess.
