One week of night vision
Hi guys, so this weeks post is going to be about my thoughts after owning my night vision for a week. So ever since I got the night vision, I have taken it out every single night since getting it from Brownells and there are a handful of things I feel like I should mention in this post. Things being stuff that I thought was going to be true that I found out we’re not and things that I, just happen to notice while using it. That being said, let’s get into it.
First things first, I didn’t realize how much the weather played a role in using a vision. The day that I got my PVS 14 we just so happen to be in a new moon phase so there was absolutely no moon visible. That being said, I was still blown away the first time I use this, even though it was the worst night to be using night vision. Things like ambient light from more populated locations or even just the moon make a huge difference in using night vision. One more thing to consider is cloud coverage, so I’ve been using mine primarily in the woods where it’s already darker, but then you add no moon and cloud coverage, and it’s very dark, but yet I was still amazed by the performance of this nightvision device.
The second thing I want to talk about is movement under night vision. Initially, I thought this was going to be a very hard task from everything I’ve ever heard before but to my surprise it was actually very easy. Walking through the woods and on trails and even walking around in my pole barn with a bunch of junk all over the place , I didn’t have any issues with doing that. I think the main thing to keep in mind when you’re doing this is remember that you’re wearing a night vision device and remember that your senses are a little bit decreased and then you should be fine. I do think it’s very important though to get out and walk around and move and do things with your night vision before you expect to be some high tier operator with it.
Next up is going to be the night vision accessories that I have mounted on my rifle and pistol. Initially, I didn’t really know what to expect with this. When using the sionyx camera and looking at my IR output, I wasn’t blown away with the performance of any of the items that I chose. But once having proper night vision in hand, they work far better than what they look like on the camera. Obviously, just like with all civilian illuminator devices I wish the illuminator on my holosun had a little bit more power behind it. But the laser itself has been fantastic. The Modlite ir850 light head is ridiculously powerful, and will basically light up the woods for as far as you can see, and then that brings me to the streamlight vir2 that I have mounted on the Glock 44. Overall, I’m very happy with that for the price and it comes in that I think it’s a fantastic option. It throws a fair amount of flood which is nice for a pistol and the laser itself is very easy to pick up as well. I’ve been very happy with all the choices that I had made in the IR department.
Overall, the biggest hurdle with us is just getting the night vision itself. Once you do that, then you can figure the rest out very easily. Like I mentioned earlier in this, I got mine from brownells, which I will have links down below to check them out. Along with all of my IR devices as well You can use code BOP10 to save a bunch of money over there on this stuff.
Anyways, if you made it here, thanks for reading night vision is super cool, and I highly recommend trying to get some for yourself because being able to see in the dark is an amazing feeling.

Got some Magpul rail covers for my URGI-ish build - unfortunately since my Geissele Mk16 rail is the newer version with steel QD inserts, I had to dremel some cutouts to get the last two covers to sit flush
A little annoying, but I wasn't about to start putting out a million WTB posts just to wait for some shit-eating redditor to upcharge me on a cherry-picked insert-less QD version because it's "clone correct".
C'est la vie.

Once You Try One…Geissele Trigger.
I get this exact comment a lot…and I mean at least every time aftermarket triggers come up in conversation with a a group of folk. My mil spec trigger in my AR-15 work just fine… no need to upgrade. If I only had a dollar for every time I’ve heard this. And to be quite honest, I too was one of those guys way back in the day. Milspec triggers work great for what they are. They do. They can be polished somewhat to smooth them out as well. They’re not bad, BUT why cheat yourself out of a better shooting experience? If you’re looking to improve on your match scores, such as in service rifle competition or 2-3 gun competitions, or just in general. Then why limit your self and your AR-15 to a mil spec trigger? That extra crisp break and lighter trigger pull can make a lot of difference.
So since we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s focus on one particular manufacturer in the trigger game and that’s Geissele. Geissele manufacturing has long been known for their triggers. At one point they inly offered a couple different varieties and they were costly comparatively speaking. The Super Select Fire trigger was designed for SOCOM but Geissele offered the SSA or Super Semi-Automatic for standard semi-automatic AR-15s. The SSA triggers MSRP is $245 which is a heck of a lot of coin for a trigger. The price alone discouraged many would be purchases of this kind of excellence, including myself I must say. Over the years Geissele has come out with other trigger variants in both single and dual stage, competition and duty style triggers AND when working with companies like Brownells, Geissele has release exclusive variants such as the G2S and GC that can be had for half the price of one of their standard triggers when on sale.
The Brownells exclusive Geissele 2 stage and competition triggers are like gateway drugs into the world of high performing triggers from Geissele. They’re so reasonably priced that they compete very well with other trigger manufacturers. Geissele is in fact a household name in the world of firearms so when someone sees they can pick up a Geissele trigger for sub $150 at times, they tend to lean that way. Then the madness starts… then they have to upgrade their other triggers to other Geissele triggers. I went down this rabbit hole myself and now have a host of firearms with Geissele triggers. My all time favorite Geissele trigger has been the SSA E X. The E is for enhanced and the X refers to the X bow trigger profile on these triggers. It’s kind of a hybrid between a traditional curved tigger face and a flat face. I tend to shoot very well with this particular trigger…it is an amazing trigger.
So back to that original comment regarding mil spec triggers being perfectly fine. Well they are just fine. They’re a tigger and hammer that function with a 6LB trigger pull, no obvious trigger break when pulling. They’re just fine. But if you want that life turning event in triggers…get your hands on a Geissele trigger from Brownells. Once you do, no longer will those mil spec triggers be “just fine”.

Why did I decide on the Geissele SD-3G trigger?
In my journey of building the best AR15 for me I decided I needed to replace my Elftmann Match Flatbow cassette trigger with a milspec style one. I wanted a light trigger pull and reliability especially when running suppressed.
The Geissele SD-3G (Super Dynamic 3-Gun) trigger is a high-performance aftermarket trigger designed primarily for competitive shooting and enthusiasts seeking enhanced speed and accuracy.
Pros of the Geissele SD-3G Trigger are:
1. Ultra-Fast Reset and SpeedThe SD-3G trigger is renowned for its lightning-fast reset and minimal travel distance. It has a unique hybrid design combining elements of a single-stage and a two-stage trigger, allowing for rapid follow-up shots. This feature makes it ideal for competitive shooting events, particularly in 3-gun competitions where speed is critical.
2. Smooth and Crisp BreakGeissele has engineered the SD-3G to provide a clean, smooth, and predictable break with a pull weight of around 3.5 pounds. This smoothness enhances shooter confidence and reduces the likelihood of jerking the trigger, which can improve accuracy.
3. Flat Trigger BowThe flat-faced trigger bow is a distinctive feature of the SD-3G. It allows for consistent finger placement, which can lead to better control and more precise shooting. Many users find flat triggers ergonomic and conducive to maintaining a steady shooting rhythm.
4. High-Quality ConstructionGeissele triggers are built with premium materials and manufacturing standards. The SD-3G is no exception, featuring hardened tool steel components that provide durability and resistance to wear, even under heavy use.
5. Ease of InstallationThe SD-3G is designed for straightforward installation, often requiring only basic tools and minimal time. This user-friendly aspect appeals to both novice and experienced shooters looking to upgrade their rifle.
6. ReliabilityLike all Geissele products, the SD-3G is known for its reliability. It performs consistently even in adverse conditions, making it suitable for competitive, recreational, and even some tactical applications.
7. Enhanced Performance in Dynamic ScenariosThe SD-3G excels in high-paced, dynamic shooting environments. It allows shooters to transition quickly between targets, making it a preferred choice for those who prioritize speed over the precision-oriented features of traditional two-stage triggers.
Cons of the Geissele SD-3G Trigger are:
1. Not Ideal for Precision Shooting. The SD-3G is excellent for speed, its hybrid single-stage-like design may lack the tactile feedback some shooters prefer for precision shooting. For tasks requiring extreme accuracy, such as long-range shooting, a true two-stage trigger might be more appropriate.
2. Steeper Learning CurveThe unique characteristics of the SD-3G, particularly its light pull weight and rapid reset, can be a double-edged sword. Shooters unfamiliar with such triggers might find it challenging to control at first, potentially leading to unintentional discharges or difficulty maintaining accuracy during rapid fire.
3. CostGeissele products are premium-grade, and the SD-3G is no exception. Its price point may be prohibitive for casual shooters or those on a budget. While it offers exceptional performance, some may question if it’s worth the investment for non-competitive use.
4. Overkill for Some ApplicationsFor general-purpose shooting or casual plinking, the SD-3G might be over-engineered. Its features are tailored to competitive scenarios, and its aggressive performance may not translate well to more laid-back or tactical environments.
5. Trigger Discipline RequirementsThe light pull weight and fast reset demand a high level of trigger discipline. Inexperienced shooters or those accustomed to heavier, mil-spec triggers may find it difficult to adjust, increasing the risk of unintended double taps or negligent discharges.
6. Flat Trigger Preferences Are SubjectiveWhile many shooters love the flat-faced design, it’s not universally favored. Some users accustomed to curved triggers may find it less comfortable or require time to adapt.
7. Limited VersatilityThe SD-3G’s design and characteristics make it highly specialized. Shooters looking for a more versatile trigger that balances speed, accuracy, and control may find other Geissele models, like the SSA or SSA-E, more suitable.
In conclusion the Geissele SD-3G trigger is a high-performance upgrade tailored to the needs of competitive shooters, particularly in dynamic events like 3-gun competitions. Its fast reset, smooth break, and durable construction make it a standout choice for speed-oriented scenarios. However, it is not without its drawbacks. Its higher price, steep learning curve, and specialization mean it may not be the best fit for all shooting disciplines or experience levels.
Ultimately, the SD-3G is a top-tier trigger for those who can fully leverage its capabilities, but casual shooters or those focused on precision may want to explore other options from Geissele. So if you have the ability to try one, do so. Also, if you buy from a place like Brownells with the "forever guarantee" you can return it if you don't like it. I actually watched the Brownells installation video on YouTube Caleb did which was a lot more helpful than Geisseles video. Be sure to use code BOP10 at Brownells if you order from them. As always, thanks for reading and I'll see you guys next week!

The long boy.
Prov 14:22 "Don't those who plan evil go astray? But those who plan good find loyalty and faithfulness."
I ask myself, what plans have I laid to do good for others? How have I contributed to the good of the lives of my family friends and neighbors?
Focus on planning to do good, avoid selfishness and an over focus on growing your own wealth and power and instead focus on doing good by your family, friends, and neighbors.

Carbine course prep
All right guys so this weeks post I wanted to make about what I’m doing to prepare for a carbine course that I am taking this month. This post isn’t meant to be a exact formula for what you should do. It is more meant to be a way to show what I’m doing and maybe to get an idea of what would work for you.
The first step is to head over to brownells and grab yourself a case of rifle ammo, and use code BOP10 to save some money on that. I grabbed a case which was perfect. They gave me 500 rounds to train with over the couple weekends that I have before the class. And then it gives me 500 rounds to take to the class.
The course that I’m taking is through MDFI which is a local company here in Michigan to me that offers a ton of really cool firearms training at various locations in Michigan. The class and I’m gonna take us their foundation carbine. Luckily, I was able to find a foundation qualifier PDF file on their website so I can get a little bit of a Headstart on that.
Overall, I really like this, because all four of the shooting drills in my opinion are very useful even outside of just preparing for this class. Next weeks post is going to be about another very good training aid that I highly recommend picking up. All four of the shooting drills have a par time of six seconds, which is very easily achievable, even while taking your time And making good well-placed shots. There is also a qualifier target that is printable in the same PDF file that prints on just a single sheet of paper. It is supposed to be shot from 15 yards which seems like it is very close but you can easily shoot outside of the box from this distance.
For me, I have found this very useful to do as a preparation for this class. I’m sure there is tons of things that I’m going to learn in this class that will make this even easier to do. But I think this is a very good start for anyone that wants to just be prepared to go to their first rifle course.
As always big thank you to brownells for being such an awesome company and helping out tons of people like myself. They carry tons of awesome parts optics, complete firearms, etc. and as always the links will be down below to them along with the coupon codes to save you some money.
Thanks for reading.
