One week of night vision
Tumblr media
Hi guys, so this weeks post is going to be about my thoughts after owning my night vision for a week. So ever since I got the night vision, I have taken it out every single night since getting it from Brownells and there are a handful of things I feel like I should mention in this post. Things being stuff that I thought was going to be true that I found out we’re not and things that I, just happen to notice while using it. That being said, let’s get into it.
First things first, I didn’t realize how much the weather played a role in using a vision. The day that I got my PVS 14 we just so happen to be in a new moon phase so there was absolutely no moon visible. That being said, I was still blown away the first time I use this, even though it was the worst night to be using night vision. Things like ambient light from more populated locations or even just the moon make a huge difference in using night vision. One more thing to consider is cloud coverage, so I’ve been using mine primarily in the woods where it’s already darker, but then you add no moon and cloud coverage, and it’s very dark, but yet I was still amazed by the performance of this nightvision device.
Tumblr media
The second thing I want to talk about is movement under night vision. Initially, I thought this was going to be a very hard task from everything I’ve ever heard before but to my surprise it was actually very easy. Walking through the woods and on trails and even walking around in my pole barn with a bunch of junk all over the place , I didn’t have any issues with doing that. I think the main thing to keep in mind when you’re doing this is remember that you’re wearing a night vision device and remember that your senses are a little bit decreased and then you should be fine. I do think it’s very important though to get out and walk around and move and do things with your night vision before you expect to be some high tier operator with it.
Tumblr media
Next up is going to be the night vision accessories that I have mounted on my rifle and pistol. Initially, I didn’t really know what to expect with this. When using the sionyx camera and looking at my IR output, I wasn’t blown away with the performance of any of the items that I chose. But once having proper night vision in hand, they work far better than what they look like on the camera. Obviously, just like with all civilian illuminator devices I wish the illuminator on my holosun had a little bit more power behind it. But the laser itself has been fantastic. The Modlite ir850 light head is ridiculously powerful, and will basically light up the woods for as far as you can see, and then that brings me to the streamlight vir2 that I have mounted on the Glock 44. Overall, I’m very happy with that for the price and it comes in that I think it’s a fantastic option. It throws a fair amount of flood which is nice for a pistol and the laser itself is very easy to pick up as well. I’ve been very happy with all the choices that I had made in the IR department.
Overall, the biggest hurdle with us is just getting the night vision itself. Once you do that, then you can figure the rest out very easily. Like I mentioned earlier in this, I got mine from brownells, which I will have links down below to check them out. Along with all of my IR devices as well You can use code BOP10 to save a bunch of money over there on this stuff.
Anyways, if you made it here, thanks for reading night vision is super cool, and I highly recommend trying to get some for yourself because being able to see in the dark is an amazing feeling.

Got some Magpul rail covers for my URGI-ish build - unfortunately since my Geissele Mk16 rail is the newer version with steel QD inserts, I had to dremel some cutouts to get the last two covers to sit flush
A little annoying, but I wasn't about to start putting out a million WTB posts just to wait for some shit-eating redditor to upcharge me on a cherry-picked insert-less QD version because it's "clone correct".
C'est la vie.

Once You Try One…Geissele Trigger.
Tumblr media
I get this exact comment a lot…and I mean at least every time aftermarket triggers come up in conversation with a a group of folk. My mil spec trigger in my AR-15 work just fine… no need to upgrade. If I only had a dollar for every time I’ve heard this. And to be quite honest, I too was one of those guys way back in the day. Milspec triggers work great for what they are. They do. They can be polished somewhat to smooth them out as well. They’re not bad, BUT why cheat yourself out of a better shooting experience? If you’re looking to improve on your match scores, such as in service rifle competition or 2-3 gun competitions, or just in general. Then why limit your self and your AR-15 to a mil spec trigger? That extra crisp break and lighter trigger pull can make a lot of difference.
Tumblr media
So since we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s focus on one particular manufacturer in the trigger game and that’s Geissele. Geissele manufacturing has long been known for their triggers. At one point they inly offered a couple different varieties and they were costly comparatively speaking. The Super Select Fire trigger was designed for SOCOM but Geissele offered the SSA or Super Semi-Automatic for standard semi-automatic AR-15s. The SSA triggers MSRP is $245 which is a heck of a lot of coin for a trigger. The price alone discouraged many would be purchases of this kind of excellence, including myself I must say. Over the years Geissele has come out with other trigger variants in both single and dual stage, competition and duty style triggers AND when working with companies like Brownells, Geissele has release exclusive variants such as the G2S and GC that can be had for half the price of one of their standard triggers when on sale.
Tumblr media
The Brownells exclusive Geissele 2 stage and competition triggers are like gateway drugs into the world of high performing triggers from Geissele. They’re so reasonably priced that they compete very well with other trigger manufacturers. Geissele is in fact a household name in the world of firearms so when someone sees they can pick up a Geissele trigger for sub $150 at times, they tend to lean that way. Then the madness starts… then they have to upgrade their other triggers to other Geissele triggers. I went down this rabbit hole myself and now have a host of firearms with Geissele triggers. My all time favorite Geissele trigger has been the SSA E X. The E is for enhanced and the X refers to the X bow trigger profile on these triggers. It’s kind of a hybrid between a traditional curved tigger face and a flat face. I tend to shoot very well with this particular trigger…it is an amazing trigger.
Tumblr media
So back to that original comment regarding mil spec triggers being perfectly fine. Well they are just fine. They’re a tigger and hammer that function with a 6LB trigger pull, no obvious trigger break when pulling. They’re just fine. But if you want that life turning event in triggers…get your hands on a Geissele trigger from Brownells. Once you do, no longer will those mil spec triggers be “just fine”.

Short History of Geissele Automatics:
Geissele Automatics is a renowned manufacturer of high-performance firearms parts and accessories, particularly recognized for its precision-engineered triggers and accessories for the AR-15 platform. Founded by Bill Geissele, the company has earned a reputation for producing some of the most reliable and innovative components in the firearms industry.
The history of Geissele Automatics is a tale of innovation, quality craftsmanship, and a commitment to meeting the needs of both military professionals and civilian gun enthusiasts alike. Geissele was founded in 2004 by Bill Geissele, a former engineer with a background in the aerospace industry. Geissele's entrance into the firearms industry was driven by his passion for precision engineering and his frustration with the limitations of the available triggers in the AR-15 platform. After working in aerospace for several years, Geissele became fascinated with firearms, particularly the AR-15, and began tinkering with ways to improve its performance, focusing on creating a better trigger. At the time, the standard triggers available for the AR-15 were often considered gritty, heavy, and inconsistent—features that hindered the accuracy and overall shooting experience.
Recognizing the demand for a high-quality, precision trigger, Geissele set out to design and build the first Geissele Super Dynamic (SD) Trigger. The goal was to create a trigger that was smooth, crisp, and reliable while offering a light pull weight, making it ideal for both military and competitive applications. The SD Trigger quickly gained attention for its superior performance and quality, laying the foundation for Geissele Automatics' reputation as a manufacturer of high-end firearms components.
The early success of the Super Dynamic Trigger was instrumental in Geissele Automatics' growth. Bill Geissele’s reputation for quality and precision quickly spread through the firearms community, particularly among military and law enforcement personnel who sought out more reliable and better-performing components for their rifles. In 2005, Geissele received a significant boost when the company was awarded a contract to supply the U.S. military with its triggers for the M4 carbine platform. This partnership marked a major milestone for the company, as it gained credibility and exposure within the defense sector. The military contract was pivotal in establishing Geissele Automatics as a leader in the firearms industry. As more military and law enforcement agencies adopted Geissele triggers, the company’s reputation for building products that could withstand the rigorous demands of real-world use grew. Geissele’s involvement with the U.S. military also spurred the development of new products, such as the Super Semi-Automatic (SSA) Trigger, which was specifically designed for military use, combining reliability with precision.
As demand for Geissele’s products grew, the company expanded its product lineup to include a wider range of firearms components. Geissele Automatics branched out beyond triggers to offer products like rails, handguards, charging handles, gas blocks, and bolt carrier groups. In each case, the company adhered to its core principles of high-quality materials, precision machining, and rigorous testing.
The introduction of these products helped establish Geissele as a one-stop-shop for AR-15 builders and enthusiasts looking to upgrade or customize their rifles. Innovation continued to be a hallmark of Geissele Automatics. The company has consistently pushed the envelope in terms of product design, introducing cutting-edge solutions to meet the evolving needs of its customers. For example, Geissele developed the “Super 42” Braided Wire Buffer Spring, which significantly improved the reliability and smoothness of the AR-15 platform’s cycling action. Similarly, Geissele’s MK16 and MK8 rail systems, designed to offer strength and versatility, became popular choices for professional shooters and enthusiasts. Recognition and Industry Leadership By the 2010s, Geissele Automatics had become one of the leading manufacturers of premium firearms components. The company’s commitment to quality and innovation, combined with its military and law enforcement partnerships, helped build a loyal customer base in both the civilian and professional markets. Geissele’s products were regularly featured in industry publications and earned accolades for their performance and durability.
One of the key factors behind Geissele Automatics' success has been its emphasis on customer feedback and collaboration. Bill Geissele and his team actively sought input from military personnel, law enforcement officers, competitive shooters, and civilian gun owners to ensure that their products met the highest standards of performance and reliability. This close connection with the shooting community allowed Geissele to remain at the forefront of innovation and ensure that its products met the evolving needs of its users.
Geissele Automatics is recognized as one of the most respected names in the firearms industry. With a diverse product range that includes precision triggers, handguards, optics mounts, and more, the company continues to build on its reputation for quality and innovation. Geissele’s commitment to American manufacturing, using only the finest materials and state-of-the-art machining techniques, ensures that its products continue to set the standard for excellence. Geissele Automatics has successfully carved out a niche as a premium brand, catering to those who demand the best in terms of performance, reliability, and precision. Whether in the hands of military personnel, law enforcement officers, competitive shooters, or civilian enthusiasts, Geissele products are trusted for their exceptional performance and durability. The company’s continued success is a testament to Bill Geissele’s vision and dedication to creating firearms components that stand up to the toughest challenges.
I personally have recently purchased a SD-3G trigger, Super 42 H2 buffer kit, and Airborne ar15 charging handle from Brownells. I wanted to take my AR15 to the next level with better and more reliable parts.

The long boy.
Prov 14:22 "Don't those who plan evil go astray? But those who plan good find loyalty and faithfulness."
I ask myself, what plans have I laid to do good for others? How have I contributed to the good of the lives of my family friends and neighbors?
Focus on planning to do good, avoid selfishness and an over focus on growing your own wealth and power and instead focus on doing good by your family, friends, and neighbors.

Carbine course prep
All right guys so this weeks post I wanted to make about what I’m doing to prepare for a carbine course that I am taking this month. This post isn’t meant to be a exact formula for what you should do. It is more meant to be a way to show what I’m doing and maybe to get an idea of what would work for you.
The first step is to head over to brownells and grab yourself a case of rifle ammo, and use code BOP10 to save some money on that. I grabbed a case which was perfect. They gave me 500 rounds to train with over the couple weekends that I have before the class. And then it gives me 500 rounds to take to the class.
The course that I’m taking is through MDFI which is a local company here in Michigan to me that offers a ton of really cool firearms training at various locations in Michigan. The class and I’m gonna take us their foundation carbine. Luckily, I was able to find a foundation qualifier PDF file on their website so I can get a little bit of a Headstart on that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Overall, I really like this, because all four of the shooting drills in my opinion are very useful even outside of just preparing for this class. Next weeks post is going to be about another very good training aid that I highly recommend picking up. All four of the shooting drills have a par time of six seconds, which is very easily achievable, even while taking your time And making good well-placed shots. There is also a qualifier target that is printable in the same PDF file that prints on just a single sheet of paper. It is supposed to be shot from 15 yards which seems like it is very close but you can easily shoot outside of the box from this distance.
For me, I have found this very useful to do as a preparation for this class. I’m sure there is tons of things that I’m going to learn in this class that will make this even easier to do. But I think this is a very good start for anyone that wants to just be prepared to go to their first rifle course.
Tumblr media
As always big thank you to brownells for being such an awesome company and helping out tons of people like myself. They carry tons of awesome parts optics, complete firearms, etc. and as always the links will be down below to them along with the coupon codes to save you some money.
Thanks for reading.

Family Range Day!!!
Tumblr media
Sometimes you’ve just gotta get out to the range and have some fun. Was recently visiting some family and brought along some stuff to shoot, so we did. This particular range was a strictly public range run by the state and having shot here in the past, it’s pretty nice. The only complaint I have though is less control of who and how folk come in to shoot. The bay next to us had some folk mag dumping compensated AR-15s which was quite annoying. Luckily for us, we also had a couple of compensated AR-15s and we able to return mag dumps likewise. But other than that, it was quite a nice day. Sun was shining and we were able to spend a good amount of time shooting and fine tuning our shots.
Tumblr media
My wife happened to be with me as well and I brought along her Sig P365 Rose, her Canik Rival and an older AR-15 build I had completed for her some years ago. The P365 Rose as well as the Canik Rival were picked up from Brownells and are 2 of her all time favorite pistols to shoot. Being more of a pistol girl, she tends to withdraw away from rifles for the most part. Her AR-15 is a custom build using a Faction pencil barrel so it’s super lightweight. I do believe she had a great time shooting it since it had been a while. She had a slight malfunction happening with her Canik pistol that was resolved with a quick field strip/lubrication.
Tumblr media
I brought along my Brownells Exclusive Geissele super Duty rifle in OD green with tan furniture as well as my CZ Shadow 2 Compact and P09C Nocturne. It’s been really hard not to bring along those 2 pistols as they’re just so nice for what they are. The shadow 2 compact is on a whole different level than most pistols in it’s class which makes it a to shoot. The Geissele rifle is another one that’s  sweet shooter and I always enjoy trigger time with it. I’m finishing up my final long term reviews on both of these CZ pistols, so be on the look out for those soon.
Tumblr media
My sister and her husband brought an AR-5 I built for him a few years back using an Aero Precision receiver set from Brownells as well as a host of other really nice parts. My sister brought along a customized S&W Shield Plus I did up for her as well as an old Ruger P95 that had belonged to our father. It was cool getting a chance to shoot that Ruger pistol again…even though they’re tanks, they’re actually quite nice to shoot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All in all it was a successful day and actually quite nice to just shoot and have fun without too much of an agenda like my range days typically consist of these days. Working on accuracy as well as the mechanics of shooting were helpful for the 4 of us that day. Looking forward to the next stress free range day with family.
