So I have an autoimmune thing with my thyroid and I have to take pills to regulate it every day and every day that passes I want to burn the US healthcare system down more than the day before.
#ramblies#like the amount of headaches I have to go through with refills and dosage and pharmacy and insurance and I love my doctor but doctor errors#leading to even more phone calls and bureaucracy just makes me crazy#noticed I was getting low on pills and the pharmacy had filled my old dosage which was a half pill#and now insurance won't pay for more because they think I had a full refill when I didn't#so my doctor and the pharmacy are trying to work around this bullshit#and I'm like I sure love that my immune system will always be doing this to my thyroid but I only get limited refills forever

Hey y'all, weird question time again! Is there anyway to word "I appreciate how unintimidating and unthreatening you are being" as a compliment that does not sound at all like an insult? One of my doctors is the absolute best at it, and I genuinely think it must be a skill he's deliberately cultivated, but I cannot figure out how to word it in a way that doesn't sound slightly insulting. Like, it's a good thing! A very good thing, especially in a doctor! But I cannot figure out how to word it in a way that conveys that
#the person behind the yarn#tj asks weird questions#I have PTSD. It's mostly under control for me and not usually an issue anymore#but I do have a few PTSD triggers I have been unable to get rid of that do occasionally cause problems at doctors visits#primarily that people touching my throat makes me very very tense#I have gotten better! I no longer automatically forcefully remove the hand from touching me#and I can make myself sit still and let doctors check my neck when needed#but I haaaate it and am very very tense the whole time#except with this doc. he is so unthreatening that the very first time I saw him he was able to check my neck without me tensing at all#and I didn't even register it as weird until I'd left his office#(most of the time they are checking for thyroid issues I think? or lymph nodes)#anyway I too have put effort into being able to be nonthreatening and unintimidating#because I used to work with toddlers and I didn't want them to ever hesitate to come to me for help#but all that seems very weird to say to a dude that I have thus far been unable to even ask where he buys his flannel shirts#because dang he has cool flannel shirts. the color combos are unlikely and I would like to buy them as well#but every time I try to word that question I am also like...yeah no that's a weird way to say it I will just not ask#it does not help that the stress of doctor visits tends to mean my word issues flare up lol

I had my GI appointment today.
He doesn’t think the throbbing aching chest/upper abdominal pain that flares up with activity is GI related. Neither do I but doctors love to make gastroparesis the scapegoat.
He also doesn’t think my nausea is GI related which really surprised me. He said you would expect GI related nausea to be more episodic and flare up with food related events. Not the constant state of nausea that I’m in that flares up with even the slightest movement or activity. He wasn’t willing to say what could be causing it if not GI but there are plenty of things like severe pain, cardiac problems, dysautonomia, medication side effects etc that could cause nausea. So idk but it’s new info to work with so that’s good.
He thinks my handfuls of ibuprofen three times a day is probably causing my stomach aches. Which…like…duh. I already know that but that’s why we’re going the methotrexate route instead. I’m scheduled for an endoscopy to check for ulcers the day after I’m scheduled for my chest CT + calcium score. If there’s damage he’s going to give me a Rx that’s supposed to help protect against the damage associated with NSAIDs
TMI warning. He thinks my lack of appetite is being exacerbated by my chronic pain and constipation but he agrees that most laxatives would make me more sick. He wants me to try a specific OTC medication called Docusate.
He was kind and understanding. He accepted that I have bad brain fog and gave me as much time as I needed to work through the conversation. He acknowledged that I probably knew a lot of this stuff already and that my medical issues are complicated. He understood how frustrating it was that everyone keeps pushing the GI route when it’s so obviously not the cause. He answered all my questions, sometimes multiple times and never labeled me as an anxious patient for being concerned about my health. I really appreciated having a good experience with a doctor. It’s been a while.

“Why am I so tired?” I keep asking myself, as if my doctor hasn’t been holding my “have a functional human body” drugs hostage for upwards of a month now.
I’m going to fucking cry. I just want to write, and clean my house, and walk my dogs, and instead I am stuck on my couch or in my bed, bone-deep exhausted and brainfoggy, sleeping badly for 12+ hours a day, while repeated calls to said doctor go unanswered.
#personal post#disability#chronic illness#I want to reiterate that these are not hard to find or restricted drugs#they are literally dirt cheap thyroid meds#but my doctor wants a blood test before they’ll give me more#and yet has not scheduled that blood test#and will not respond to phone calls asking why the fuck#it’s so bad that if I were working I would 100% have lost my job by now due to symptoms#but why would that matter

Dear thyroid,
I wasn't specifically looking for this, but I happened across a list of hypothyroidism symptoms and. uh. uh-oh.
Out of fifteen items on the list, I am experiencing twelve. One is not applicable to me, one is clearly a 'no', and one I can't check by myself (change in heart rhythms). So. I guess maybe it's check with a doctor time. This would explain a few things.
A lot of these changes I noticed happened in 2020, but I assumed they were stress-related. Because we were all a little. ok a LOT. stressed back then. Now I just have to figure out how to explain this to a doc without getting them mad at me for doing my own research. I'm thinking about trying the classic, "My friend who has hypothyroid running in her family told me I should check with you about XYZ."
