So all this time he hasn't been looking or searching, just kind of living. (what if he gave himself that letter and he is so messed up he genuinely doesn't realize like. All of his stuff is so messy I would believe that as a possibility lol everything he says is wild and everywhere oh my gosh)

I wish I had more headcanons but this dude baffles me so much, with all of his stuff being confusing and contradictory and unreliable oh my gosh LOL but he puts on the airs that he has two personalities, one trying to be a good person and find his memories while the other is like "NAHHHHH I GOT PLANS"

I was off X/Twt for a long time because I switched over to bsky and have generally found it to be a much more positive, small space (like I actually have regular, positive interactions with mutuals rather than just shouting into the void and observing dumpster fires, imagine)

Because I watched AYS with my IRL friend who is 1) an extremely sweet, clever person and 2) a taekooker (she was targeted as a baby army by the bad algorithms and now she’s sucked in) and watched her say “aw they have such a sibling relationship” when jikook cuddled in bed and then watched her squeal and get butterflies when Tae forced JK’s head onto his shoulder (and I’m not saying anything negative about taekook in that moment but it was far from a cutesie coupley moment, even amongst other AYS taekook moments). I just say that to show how wild perspective can be because she truly saw alllll the jikook antics and chalked it up to friendship and saw 3 moments of taekook coexisting platonically and saw it as a grand romance.

And same for me! Like I ship/support/whatever you want to call it jikook, so that’s the lens through which I viewed AYS and the enlistment and the discharge live and all of it. And sure there are so many people who think I’m crazy for being a real person shipper but at least I’m not denying multiple levels of reality to do so?? And I have a healthy sense of self-doubt?? Idk if jikook are anything more than friends, I *think* they are but they could just be friends and I would be like “ah, okay” because I DON’T KNOW THEM.

Hopefully this helps answer any questions pertaining to the new Isle book. If anyone has any more questions, feel free to ask if this didn’t answer anything! I just felt like this will be easier than going back-and-forth pulling small tidbits to add 🤣😂😂

Okay, so here’s the briefest summary of what happens in Beyond the Isle of the Lost: Wonderland. We learn that Wonderland is sealed off from Auradon because the Queen didn't want to be under the Beast’s rule, I believe, so she raised an army to fight back just in case. This was known as the War of Roses. It sounds like there never was a fight. It sounds more like the Queen showed that she was no punk and wasn’t gonna let anyone scare or intimidate her, or most likely, she just didn’t want to be the one not in control so out of fear, Auradon closed the Rabbit Hole, which is one of two ways to get in and out of Wonderland, the other being The Pool of Tears. Because of this, Red has never been outside of Wonderland and doesn’t know much about what is going on in the outside world. The Queen has turned Wonderland pretty much into a dictatorship prison where so many things are outlawed that it doesn’t even seem like Wonderland anymore. She wants Red to follow in her footsteps and rule like she does, but Red ain’t having none of it. She wants to rebel against it all, but because she hasn’t had any sort of influence from anyone since everyone in Wonderland is scared to death of her mother, they never act out, so she doesn't know how. In comes Ace and Chester, two characters who sort of help her rebel, but they don’t know much either. Chester is, I believe, the son of the Cheshire Cat or at least a descendant of him. Ace…I'm not sure cause they never established, but if I were gonna take a wild guess, I would say that he could be the son of an Ace card. They do things to rebel and bring life to Wonderland by throwing parties, two to be exact, and the first failed royally, which resulted in them being arrested by the guards, and the Queen just dismissed them. The second party they throw in the throne room which makes the Queen blow her lid and start arresting everyone, which in turn makes Red, Chester, and Ace go on the lam. They plan on going to the Pool of Tears so they can escape Wonderland, but unfortunately, C and A get captured by the card soldiers. They tell Red to run for it and escape Wonderland, but she doesn’t want to leave her friends, so she goes back for them. Big mistake because that was a trap by the Queen, who throws her in the dungeon with them. The next day in front of all of Wonderland, the Queen shows just how much of a royal evil bitch she is by showing what she does to people who break her laws: She turns them into mindless card soldiers, as she demonstrates with Ace. It’s very heavily implied that she did this to the other kids she captured at the party. She then turns Chester into a cat, who then disappears. It goes without saying that Red is heartbroken, distraught, and traumatized by this, and her mother doesn’t give a flying fuck. So, Red now has this deep resentment toward her mother and is probably willing to do anything to get back at her. She probably wants to escape Wonderland more or perhaps take her anger out on the land.

This actually does something the other “prequel” books did as it gives us a look into who the character of Red is and her mother as well. It also gives us a glimpse of how much of a threat the Queen of Hearts is because when I heard that she was planning a coup in the movie, I was like, “yeaaaaah, but she’s really not that big of a threat like Maleficent, Uma, Audrey, or any of the other villains or ‘villains’ so how will this work?” But this gives us more information. It also gives a little more backstory as to why Wonderland is separate from Auradon and why Uma is looking to invite people from there to go to school in Auradon. Do I think they will reference some of the things from this movie? Maybe a little because a lot of it gives us reasons to see the Queen as a threat and more about why Red wants to rebel so much. Do I think we’ll get closure for Chester and Ace? Most likely not, and I hate that because while the other books left their endings with shots of happiness, this one ended completely depressing and horrifying.

Something to note: the Queen HATES cupcakes. In the summer preview, there was a picture of her younger self holding a plate of cupcakes while looking sad, so I wonder if we’re gonna see the reasons behind her hatred for them.

Maddox, the son of the Mad Hatter, is a science teacher at Wonderland High who is in the Queen’s favor. He’s interested in…wait for it…time travel, which is the basic plot of the film.

Reading this really makes listening to Red’s part in the new “What’s My Name” hit a little deeper, especially the parts where she says, “My mom’s as mean as it gets” and “It was rough growing up.”

I don’t know where Merlin Academy, Cinderella, and the other characters come into play, as the book mainly focused on Red, but I guess we’ll find out more in the new film.

It’s pretty much confirmed that the Queen was never on the Isle of the Lost (which makes the mention of her hair salon in the second book kind of weird), so that means Red is probably the only VK who wasn’t born on the Isle. She’s heard rumors about it but has never seen it. The only people she has met from the Isle are Harry and Jasper, who apparently got trapped in Wonderland after the VKs got released from the Isle in the 3rd film. But how they got trapped there if Wonderland was sealed off before they were born is what’s puzzling me. But timelines have never made absolute sense in this franchise so I’m not gonna get to deep into it😄😂

Posting cause I am not for getting called out for no reason. My internet usage is my business. There's that. Anyway, pinktuesdays is absolutely unhinged and clogs up the thread with long ass posts. I'm confused about why people respond, not every post and person is worth engaging with. That thread is filled with a lot of hurt feelinged women. I understand the analogy of a trainwreck but eventually you have to look away. What's interesting is the juxaposition between that thread and the team real thread; they are much calmer over there. I think that some people are still very on the fence about the truth. The ones of us firmly planted on one side or the other aren't like that.

Regarding the 03 boy’s accents - I kinda figured it was because of their isolation. Donnie and Leo having generic American accents makes sense because for a long time the only interaction they had with the outside world is through the TV. I figured Mikey heard some kind of ‘surfer dude’ accent via the TV and decided he liked it and decided to just speak like that (although he does seem to grow out of it a little as the series goes on - so maybe a phase?). Same with Raph; either on a supply run or sneaking out at some point (or again, maybe through the TV) he heard someone speaking with a Brooklyn accent and decided he liked it. Adding in an extra little headcannon: I also always figured the 03 boys spoke Japanese before they spoke English - Splinter is from Japan so even before he was mutated that would have been the language he heard spoken both as a wild rat and once he was Tang Shen’s pet. Even when Yoshi moved to America with Splinter, I think he would probably have spoken Japanese to Splinter at home (or at least more so than English) just because that was the language he was most comfortable with. So, once he was mutated, Splinter taught the turtles to speak Japanese first and they all learned English at the same time, via TV and any humans they did hear etc. That probably meant that the turtles had Japanese accents when they spoke English for a while themselves until they either grew out of it or picked what they wanted to sound like. (Extra Bonus Headcannon: although they spoke Japanese first, they read English first, and didn’t learn to read and write Japanese along with Splinter until they were in their teens. Japanese is a difficult language to read with three separate alphabets, and although I think they would have managed it if they were living in Japan and exposed to it all the time, they were living in America, so most if not all of the written word they came across would probably have been In English. They had to wait until they had dedicated resources to learn it.)

(Sorry about all the headcannons… I’ve thought about this quite a lot. Also, I am not American, and I have never been to New York, so if there is anything I am wrong about I apologise.)

Ah, I was sort of talking the turtles in general/in a hypothetical future iteration where they all have accents but I guess I didn’t make that super clear 😅 still I’m going to follow you down this rabbit hole because I like where you’re going with this. Cuz accents are kind of a funny thing, especially when you have characters that are isolated from the general population. I kinda figure in a scenario where they all have distinct New York accents it would come from overhearing it from humans (Rise Leo is said to have learned Spanish by listening to the Puerto Rican population of New York) but unlike more recent iterations like Rise and Mutant Mayhem, the 03 boys really stuck hard to the whole avoiding humans rule until their first lair got destroyed and they were forced topside.

I think it really makes sense that their first language was Japanese, because of Splinter learned ninjutsu from watching Hamato Yoshi then he probably learned Japanese from hearing him. Learning English from TV makes the most sense since that was probably their main exposure to the language. Though if they didn’t have cable (which they probably didn’t in the early days) then most of what they heard probably would have been local news/public access channels so that’s probably where they got their first taste. If I may add to your head canon, I think the boys probably would have gotten the bulk of their English education from Sesame Street since PBS would have been one of the few channels they had easy access to and that actually had programming that they would be interested in when they were small. (Which then raises the possibility that maybe, just maybe, Raph got his accent from imitating Oscar the grouch 🤣🤣🤣)

The reading thing makes sense to me too, especially because they probably got a lot of their books by digging through trash or donation bins, so everything they would have had access to would have been in English. I had something similar as a kid because I grew up in a Spanish/English speaking household but I mainly learned to read in English, written Spanish didn’t make any sense to me even though I knew it when spoken. I didn’t really learn to read/write Spanish until high school but even then I can really mostly just read it, for some reason if I’m asked to write anything in Spanish myself I completely forget the rules of grammar and syntax immediately. It can be really hard to take a language that you’ve only ever heard or spoken aloud and then try to match it with its written form, especially if you’ve never even seen the alphabet before (and Spanish is like, easy mode, I can’t imagine having to learn three different alphabets, all of which support each other to form the language, though I think the 03 boys would be determined enough to do it) I like the idea of April bringing them language books to help them learn, it’d be really sweet, maybe they’d teach her a couple of phrases they know in turn.

Hi there anon!! this was a pleasant surprise to see in my inbox and I wasn't expecting to get questioned about POTO at all tbh! I'll try my best though 😊

I think starting with the musical would help, that's what actually lead me down the rabbit hole.

The most well known one would be Andrew Lloyd Webber's. This one is pretty similar to the book, if I recall correctly, having a some changes here and there (one of them being that the Persian isn't actually present in the musical.) I'd recommend either watching/listening to the broadway or the 2004 film, the latter being what introduced me to POTO in the first place hehe

There's also another musical by Maury Yeston and Arthur Kopit (which I've only discovered this year), though it is loosely based from the novel, and kinda shows the Phantom in a different light. I actually watched the 1990 miniseries first before listening to the musical, and I gotta say that the Phantom was very charming in this one, made me swoon a bit 🙈

Their music style is pretty different from one another, now I'm not that good with music terms and classifying the styles, but Yeston & Kopit's is more opera like compared to Webber's which is a sort of mix with opera, classical and a bit of rock maybe??? They are both bangers though, I swear.

I'm pretty sure there are other retellings and musicals based on it, but these two plus the book are the only ones I've consumed so far.

Webber actually made a sequel to his POTO musical called Love Never Dies and boY IS IT A RIDE. I think the fans have mixed feelings about it, it has great songs though omg. So so basically, it's ten years after the original musical and is set in an amusement park called Phantasma, and w/o saying anything about the plot, basically our main trio come together again and we get love triangle 2.0 with so much drama. Was honestly flabbergasted the first time I saw it ‘cause I went in blind but as I rewatched it for the 3rd time and listened to the soundtrack over and over again, I admit it's pretty good. In a trashy way. Do I recommend that you watch it? Honestly, yeah, it was a pretty wild ride and I was entertained, it was a good time despite everything about the plot. You don't have to though if you don't want to!!! Some people actually described it being fanficy or something along those line

But yeah, that's all I have to recommend, I hope this helps you somewhat!! Even though I was just rambling most of the times haha.

Hmm yeah the werewolf thing doesn't really the north Vs south thing huh? Timeline wise and all. I was pondering something along the lines of old Scandinavian (?) pagan practices of 'becoming wolves' and thought there might have been an actual werewolf cult in Ferelden long long ago (like the irl ones I went down a rabbit hole learning about haha!). Zathrians curse is a seperate thing, because he forced it onto people and turned it into a kind infectious disease.

So words get thrown around a lot by people, and I think your average person will not distinguish between the Zathrian werewolf, or a shapeshifter turning into a wolf form. If Brecilli shamans practiced Shapeshifting magic. Then the definition of werewolf could be broadly applied to both, but they are actually different things.

There were definitely wars among the early fereldens and the Alamarri tribes (I think there are some canon ones) and I feel like there's something there ! 😂

These pagan Andrastians are inspired by me developing several brainworms based on the lore-tidbit that The Chantry TM was only founded 2-4 centuries (I forgot the exact timing) after Andraste's death. They obvi took inspiration from the irl early development of Christianity, which was an absolute wild time and is an interesting rabbit hole to fall into, lots of little pocket religions that are theologically wildly different from the modern day. There's a cool codex entry about it - I love that nod to history.

I still have a fairly hazy idea on what their exactly mythology/theology is. although I'm also gonna be real, I was actually AU'ing Solas when I came up with the idea. I had him wake up a lot earlier and he was involved in Andraste's thing (I have not played veilguard lmao but I do kind of know the lore reveals heh)

The gist of it though, was Andraste saw a great Spirit in the form of a Wolf in the woods, and it instructed her to unite the tribes of alamar and take out Tevinter. The idea that this is Solas influencing the world the same way Flemeth does is so chewy to me I have to do it 🤣 the fact that it spiraled so far out of control that the Chantry and Orlesian Empire became a thing is a so on Brand for a Solas Plan.

This was inspired by the theory that went around before DAI, you probably recall it if you were there (I was there, Gandalf) The theory was basically that the Dread Wolf was the Maker.

So we have this Wolf spirit , called the Maker or the Planner maybe 👀 , and depictions of Andraste among the Brecilli usually feature her with a wolf, or dressed like a wolf. Now I'm wondering if there is some weird tension between them and the Dalish. Because the dalish that learn of this are very <_< about it. "You depict this Maker as a ... Wolf? Why? <_<"

Now when it comes to my dear Blorbo Anora. She and Rosslyn could bond over having to pretend to give a f*** about the Chantry haha. Her line where she says Eleanor was dear to her hits different in this AU because she means Eleanor was the only one she could talk to about feeling out of place , and feeling Judged by the Revered Mother's of the orlesians Chantry. Oh god I just realized Eleanor would even remind her of Celia, and I wonder if the Teryna stepped in at all to help the young queen after Celia died. Hmm since Celia was not a noble at all, so any training on courtly behaviour, propriety etc would have had to come from Eleanor as a noble in a family of equal rank right? Anora living in Highever for a time to be taught properly because loghain is useless. Love him but he's useless. Side note: Anora's cousins, Eomer and Halfdan would have been with her, because they too needed to learn how to govern. Maric alleviated Celia's family to nobility as well, I call them the Mac Arvith's, 'sons of the forest' , arvith coming from Arvid, an old Norse name related to forests and kings. I had to give her more family because why does no one have siblings in this world? And since Celia was the one actually being a Teryna , it became clear that a family from the Brecillian needed to step up and govern, since that would be a lot more popular with the people.

I'm going to go sit in a corner and think about Anora-Cousland feels now.

The Chantry Schism thing is so real, and I feel the mage-templar conflict is grounds for the final straw.

I wanna pick your brain about an Alamarri headcanon I have

Inspired by the storm islander Clayne, I came up with the Brecilli.

They're an off shoot of the Clayne living in the brecillian forest mainly. My Headcanon is that Celia, Anora's mother, was from this culture and practiced their traditional faith. They venerate the Lady of the Wood especially, and wolves are sacred to them. (I also have a seperate thing where Adaia Tabris was Chasind and had a thing with Loghain and Celia, and now Tallon is Loghains bastard son and Anora grew up with a Chasind teaching her how to fight and of their traditions as well... I have thoughts of Chasind culture that made it's way to Gwaren too)

Do you think there's some ground for tension between Anora and the Couslands , and indeed Southern Fereldans and the Northern Fereldans , over the war with the werewolves?

Maybe the werewolves were a Brecilli thing, and history was written by the victor so the story is one of the northern Fereldans defeating the southerners and bringing them into the fold of Calenhad's kingdom?

I also have this idea of a unique version of andrastianism specific to them (Alamarri practitioners in general). They don't like the chantry because they see it as an appropriation of their historical figure. They don't venerate her as a prophet but as hero of old, and they have a different version of the Maker? Like the maker was not a new god that spoke to her because the gods of alamarr didn't listen but an actual Alamarri deity, and the story was changed by Kordilius Drakon at the founding of the chantry because the chantry is orlesian. There is something there, because the orlesians are not descended from Alamarr but a different tribe but they took this figure and made her their own and then used her to subjegate them? Is this anything 😅

I am so here for this! I bet there are so many Alamarri offshoots that were either driven out during the Occupation or absorbed into wider Fereldan culture after Calenhad unified the tribes. Also yes to the idea that Chasind are more welcoming to elves among their numbers, and that Gwaren would have a lot of influence from the Chasind as a relatively isolated settlement in the south.

And considering Zathrian's curse has lasted 300 years? It makes total sense that stories would have sprung up around wolves and the Lady of the Forest in the Brecilian. The Couslands drove the werewolves out of the North in the Black Age (500 years before the Dragon Age, ~100 years before Calenhad united Ferelden) and as far as I know Zathrian's curse is an entirely separate thing. I don't think the Cousland vs werewolf story is really a story about North vs South - Elehthea Cousland fought and lost a war against Calenhad to try and maintain Highever's independence, and there are other stories about Fereldan heroes, like Dane, battling werewolves too. They seem pretty widespread, historically.

Having said that, I'm now imagining the political ramifications of rumours that there are still werewolves in the Brecilian Forest when no one has any idea where they came from. The Couslands can accuse the Teyrn of Gwaren of neglecting their duty to the people, and the Teyrn of Gwaren can shoot right back that they only have to deal with werewolves at all because they were too incompetent to finish the job and kill the beasts outright. And meanwhile there's a lost Alamarri tribe in the woods caught between venerating wolves and getting struck by the curse (it's unclear whether the werewolves in Mark of the Beast are the same people Zathrian cursed 300 years ago, so I choose to believe they're not).

But yes please tell me more of these pagan Andrastians who believe the Maker is one god among multiple, and how they're salty about the Orlesians co-opting their heroic figure and then excluding them from the narrative, because I love that stuff. To me, Ferelden is so close to causing a schism in Chantry doctrine because of how unconcerned it seems to be with the Orlesian way of doing things and I'm all for anything that expands on that

My first impression of them

I think I just considered her a straightforward Evil Girlboss. But it took me forever to Blorbo these characters, though I saw the movie in theatres and loved it from the start. I definitely loved her costumes from the beginning; I recall that much.

April 2021. I was at home after my second COVID vaccine dose, realized the movie was on Netflix, watched it- and fell down the rabbit hole, hard.

Given her childhood, probably something nobody noticed or cared about. Or even bemoaned, in a "little girls should be seen and not heard, and now the tiresome thing won't ever give us any peace again" vein.

We know from the character bios and the newspaper article about Beatrice's death how she was as a kid: curious, quiet, intelligent, brave, coldly polite to most people, and eternally self-sacrificing for her brother. Not yet as broken as she would one day be, but increasingly cracked as the years passed.

A weird headcanon

She finds April Fool's Day extremely tiresome (spoiler: this is because it's her birthday).

When do you think they were at their happiest?

Weirdly, per the bios, the canon answer is "when she was pregnant with Thomas' child." She got to just be at home relaxing with her piano and her butterflies and her increasingly esoteric poetry about her and Thomas' Ultimate, Predestined, Celestially Perfect Union.

I'd say three-way tie between that, the time when she was a young child and Thomas a toddler and their nurse Theresa actually loved them, and the post-asylum period where she'd healed significantly and she and Thomas had free rein of the house but the money hadn't run dangerously low yet.

When do you think they were at their lowest?

After her son died.

Future headcanon

Based on the actual movie ending? She'll continue haunting Allerdale until it collapses, and then...who knows?

In my happier imaginings? Canon diverges before Edith gets too ill, and they all end up in a happy (if deeply unhealthy) triad together.

What do you think is a secret they have that they never told anyone?

There were more pregnancies after the first one. She ended them with herbal abortifacients the day she realized, every time, believing she could never bring a healthy baby into the world.

When do you think they acted the most ooc

It's not something she does onscreen, but Thomas' wives ring fingers are in the drawer along with their locks of hair. I don't see someone as fastidious as Lucille particularly enjoying the smells, staining, and visuals of severed limbs rotting in a heated room that would come before they ended up all neatly mummified as they appear to be in the movie.

When do you think they were being “themselves” the most?

When she was showing Edith around the library.

I think murder is something she does, but her interests and her devotion to Thomas are who she is. She doesn't want to be killing people- she doesn't regret it or feel guilty; assuming that would be woobifying. She just hates the necessity of it. She wants to be at home with her books and her butterflies and her piano, being a good sister-wife to Thomas and a good mistress to the house. And I think that's significant.

If they could meet a character from another show/movie/etc, who would be the most fun for them to meet?

With Lucille alone, you get the kid fed nutritious meals, bathed, and put to bed on time after a suitable period spent in quiet play or practicing a skill- but they're lightly terrified of putting a toe wrong.

With Thomas, you get the kid having the time of their life- but they haven't showered in three days, they're covered in glitter-glue, and their last five meals were bowls of Lucky Charms.

Unless of course the kid happens to be running from a situation they'd find all too familiar, in an OT3 setup- but that's just an existing, very fleshed-out OC I'm trying frantically to work into a story someday. We'll see if she makes it.
