i’ve been eating up the DP/W brain rot like slop, but your critiques are making me think too much about it and now i realize it’s. it’s not that good 😭 i feel like a toddler being spoon fed by marvel and disney. i’m still gonna like and reblog the homo fanart and such, but damn.
do you think there’s any way for marvel comics to be made into movies well?? i feel like everything is just run by the same people
i feel a little bit like those stories where like, everyone gets like a mind spell on them or like, a love potion or such, and i'm here (immune) to that love potion so it's up to me to shake everyone out of the spell. thank you @makehimwhimper... i love the url, by the way.
marvel comics have been made into movies well! i mean, they won't be anymore, if disney continues to swallow everything up, but - once upon a time, they could be done well! i do think logan is just - straight up a good movie. okay, it's not fun. but it's a good movie. and i think the first deadpool movie - though not perfect, and not any sort of milestone of cinema - has all kinds of charm and a respect for the source material.
i think the best we'll be getting in the way of marvel adaptations is probably whatever sony's doing with spider-verse - but i think a big thing about what makes those work for me is all the new things they did with it - fact is, i think audiences actually DO want to see something new. and i don't know if faithful 1:1 adaptations of comics is necessarily going to work. but just - there's a curse in marvel that i can just smell right now, it reeks - it's the smell of the people working at marvel just not respecting their audience at all. and i think it's a disney problem, really. where disney is in this stage where they'll avoid creating anything new or innovative and depend solely on you recognising IP (but ideally, only recognising it at face-value, so you're not critical when they inevitably get it wrong) - because recognition is just what is selling right now. and it works on 100 different levels - because even if you hate the new deadpool and wolverine movie, you're nostalgic for the better x-men movies. now streaming on disney+. disney has your wallet regardless of if their new movie is good or not. you didn't like the new star wars stuff? you're in luck. the original star wars. now streaming on disney+. they're remaking lilo and stitch. you think it's a stupid idea. the original is so perfect. come to think of it i should rewatch lilo and stitch on disney+. i'll buy some merchandise. so even if you're upset with disney, you're running back to disney's open arms. there's no escape.
it's kind of disney's business model now - that actually works in their favour - to give you a bad movie that reminds you of better movies. because they still own the better movies. they still own the merchandising rights. you don't like the new spider-man? here. the better, older spider-men are here to save the day. but we still own the merchandising rights. anything with that guy's face on it. that's money in our wallet.
disney's found an infinite money loophole. why would they expend effort making a good movie or take risks when a bad movie that references better movies generates so much more income?

i have no idea if anyone will see this but 🙏 please be nice at the theater when you see mario. i work at a movie theater. and mario has rained hell upon us. people are rude and impatient when it takes a while to make their food (when there's literally like 50 people in line do you realize how stressful that is) and people are especially messy. if you don't work at a movie theater, you probably don't realize how much trash people leave behind. we get that there are accidents but leaving popcorn scattered down the rows and leaving entire meals worth of trash behind are not accidents. and we definitely have it a lot better than other theaters, since ours is relatively small (14 auditoriums). but it has been awful. ive been working here around 8 months and this is definitely the worst i have seen. but yeah. basically be considerate and nice to your theater crew we're doing our best. ✌️

Xisuma clutched Etho’s hand as they stepped into the dimly lit haunted house, the air thick with fog and the scent of damp wood. “Are you sure this was a good idea?” Xisuma whispered, his eyes darting around for any lurking ghosts.
Etho smirked, his confidence unwavering. “Come on, it’s just a few jump scares. Besides, I’ve got you.”
As they moved deeper inside, a skeleton jumped out from behind a wall, rattling its chains. Xisuma yelped, nearly pulling Etho down with him. Etho laughed, a melodic sound that echoed through the eerily quiet space.
“See? Just a bit of fun!” Etho teased, squeezing Xisuma’s hand.
“Fun? This is terrifying!” Xisuma shot back, but a smile broke through his fear. He leaned closer to Etho, comforted by his presence.
As they continued, they encountered a mirror maze. “Do you think we can get out?” Xisuma asked, uncertainty creeping in.
Etho shrugged, his eyes sparkling with mischief. “Only if I don’t get lost staring at how cute you look in the reflection.”
Xisuma rolled his eyes, but his heart warmed. “You’re ridiculous.”
“Just trying to lighten the mood,” Etho replied, sounding a little too amused. “Now, let’s get through this maze before something really scary shows up.”

I wonder if, once we grow old, there will be movies and books and shows about the times we are living in written with the same kind of warm, cozy nostalgia as we treat the early 20th century with, or if we have created a time that is so thoroughly unappealing it will disappear from our cultural perception

As someone who grew up barely protestant, the only consistent church service I went to was Christmas and the nativity play at my junior school until I went to a secular high school and also as someone that unironically likes the glee version of some songs and had like a 5 month long high school musical kick recently, just generally likes musicals:
Journey to Bethlehem is actually so entertaining and they did not have to go so hard with the songs. I could immediately tell it was a modern retelling not intending on being accurate (biblically or historically) and that's fine. It's a movie with Milo Manheim and a donkey named Fig as a repccuring character, it's meant to be campy and for shits and giggles.

A year after the feature-length epilogue premiered on Netflix in 2021, the El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack LP was released with a special limited edition of 1,500 copies. Mondo, in partnership with Sony Masterworks, even developed two special colorways for this set: “Orange w/ White Splatter” and “Blue w/ Orange Splatter” vinyls! 🏜️
With a thrilling, pulse-pounding score by Dave Porter and nearly a dozen songs from the movie, this set is essential listening for fans of Vince Gilligan's expanded crime saga. Featuring 2 printed inner pocket sleeves along with exclusive pictures and liner notes, you had to be quick (like me) to preorder your copy before they sold out!

The Island (1980)
"Are you wise enough to feel privileged? You and I are the only living men ever to see what you see now."
"A bunch of arseholes playing Long John fucking Silver?"
"Hardly, dear boy. Living history: an anthropologist's dream. You're witnessing the seventeenth century."
#the island#1980#peter benchley#michael ritchie#michael caine#david warner#angela punch mcgregor#frank middlemass#don henderson#dudley sutton#colin jeavons#jeffrey frank#brad sullivan#zakes mokae#ricky rincon#susan bredhoff#ennio morricone#hot mess of a film. the producers paid Benchley a record breaking 2.5 million for the rights to his novel‚ gave him refusal rights on cast#and location‚ a cut of the gross and even a percentage of soundtrack sales. they were expecting another Jaws megahit and boy did they#miscalculate. a strange and difficult to categorize movie: it opens on strong gore horror but quickly settles into adventure film mode as#Caine's journalist (and son) investigate missing boats in the Bermuda triangle and stumble across an island of pirate descendants still#plying their cutthroat trade. that these pirates are played by some of the finest Brit character actors of the era is one of the chief#positives here: my boy Davey W is their leader‚ Colin Jeavons their legal expert and mystic scribe‚ Dudley Sutton their medic and Don#Henderson one of their most fierce buccaneers. that's all a lot of fun for your average old tv freak (guilty) but for such a resoundingly#weird set up and (let's be honest) silly idea‚ this is strangely unenthusiastic. Warner in particular is badly served‚ his chief antagonist#never afforded the fearsome stature and moments of menace that the character is so clearly calling out for. Angela P M fares little better#with her character‚ after an astounding entrance completely caked in mud and looking entirely inhuman‚ gradually fading into the background#it's... idk. problems in scripting‚ chiefly‚ and in the rather flat direction of Ritchie (most known for his work in broad comedy). made#a good deal weirder or a great deal nastier this might have had some real impact and ended up an unlikely cult classic. as it is‚ it was a#financial bomb and I'm sorry to say it isn't any great stretch to see why. fun enough for fools but no great time to be had alas

are you aware you are going to be in a movie.
Eh? What are you talking about? I am in a movie! I’m just an extra in it, but I am technically in a movie nonetheless!
