I am Hazem Shawish, and I am trying to save my family from this war.

We live in Gaza, where we face significant challenges due to the current situation.

My family consists of 11 members, including my mother, two daughters, four sons, and three children.

In the shadow of conflict, our family has faced unimaginable hardships. The passing of my father, a victim to the cruel grasp of hunger and inadequate healthcare, left a void in our lives, underscoring the fragility of our existence here. My brother, Samer, battles bipolar disorder, a condition exacerbated by the ongoing war and the severe shortage of essential medications. Without access to the necessary treatment, his life is at risk, and we live in constant fear for his well-being amidst the chaos that surrounds us. These personal tragedies have deepened the urgency of our situation.

Every day is a struggle for survival, and each night is filled with prayers for a brighter tomorrow. We hold onto hope, believing that one day the clouds will dissipate, and we will find the peace we long for.

Our home, which was a sanctuary for us, was destroyed, forcing us to live in a state of uncertainty and fear. We have lost the laughter of our children.

We dream of moving to Egypt to find safety, where our children can pursue their education.

‎‏Then the journey of suffering and separation began,because my children were separated and evacuated from our home without covering or clothes., From here they became infected with diseases, and what increased our fatigue was the constant upbringing due to the different areas in which we were displaced, as we were displaced 9 times, and this was very expensive, the last of which was the 9th of this August from Hamad Town. 26 year old mother Rajaa, her 1 year old son Karam, and her husband Khaled, 30, are currently forced to live under the extremely inhumane and unlivable conditions present in Gaza, following the destruction of what were supposed to be safe zones during this war.

They are surrounded by death every single day, having witnessed the death of numerous people in their community not only from the active bombings, but also by starving, the collapse of the health system, the spread of epidemics and diseases and lack of clean water. They lack the most basic needs and their baby is suffering from malnutrition because of this famine. While she speaks only of how devastated her son's mental health has become in her campaign post, her own fortitude and strong will… her hope in the face of this trauma is beyond outstanding.

Not that long ago their life was a happy one, Rajaa and Khaled having welcomed their first child together, having gotten their first stable jobs to pursue their respective careers and furthering their education with higher degrees, herself a medical analysis specialist and her husband a daily teacher, working as a chef in his own small shop in their community.

But times have changed, after this spike in the war and genocide efforts they have both lost not only their jobs, but their friends, family, and the community their son was growing up in.

Because of all those circumstances, Rajaa, her husband and their son are aiming to evacuate from the Gaza Strip. However, as we all know, the prices Palestinians need to pay to travel, let alone cross the Egyptian border are enormous and difficult to pay even for people with stable financial situation.

Their GoFundMe is moving forward very slowly, at the time of me writing this it is currently sitting at $1748 of their $20,000 requirement to meet their basic necessities. I beg that anybody able to, please, consider donating to this struggling family! I’m writing as a brother watching Samer struggle for survival. His health has deteriorated to the point of falling into a coma, and we are unable to provide him with the necessary treatment. 💔

Samer suffers from bipolar disorder, and his stability relied on daily medications including LeponeX (Clozapine), Depalept Chrono (Sodium Valproate), and Lithium CO3 (Lithium Carbonate). These medications helped stabilize him, but without them, his health has worsened significantly. Every moment is crucial, and the pain and worry are relentless. 😞

There is no place for my brother in the hospital, and we cannot secure the treatment he needs. Imagine being unable to help your own brother as he struggles, without a way to provide the medicine he needs to recover.

They were three children living a normal, comfortable life with all their needs provided for. Nasser, 8 years old, Baraa, 4 years old, and Adam, 1 year old.

Our story with Adam: Adam was one year old when the war started and he left his home and the wonderful, dignified life. He was displaced to a tent without the minimum necessities of life. A team came to provide support and assistance and brought some food and fruits.

Adam's reaction was strange. He attacked the fruits without realizing it. He ate them greedily. Adam began to ask his father for fruits on a daily basis as if he was exploring the world through them.
