Something I personally dislike is when people assign mom and dad roles to gay/lesbian couples. If they're gay, they're both dads. If they're lesbians, they're both moms. Same as how there's no 'man' in a lesbian relationship or 'woman' in a gay one. That's kind of the point. I really wish straight people would stop trying to shove queer couples into heteronormative boxes.

Saw people talking about not liking first person, which is fair, but their reasoning was like "I would not do that" and I don't understand that mindset.

First person stories are still about a character. A character making their own decisions. First person isn't about you???? At least I thought it wasn't. What am I missing? I've always seen first person as just a more in-depth look into a character's mind and stricter POV. Not as a reader stand-in.

so, morality's a really fun subject! It is, also, one of those things that gets invoked to try and rationalize the dissonance that comes with saying things like "support a genocidal bigot". It's right to invoke morality in conversations like this - although not in the way it's used here - and I wanted to take a few minutes to go into this genuinely disastrous opinion. Because this isn't an uncommon perspective, especially for centerist Dems, to a concerning degree.

For starters, ACAB means ALL cops - this includes her. Not just was she the former Attorney General of California, she was the one who submitted a request to stay a higher court decision to ensure a transwoman was housed in a male prison. While from what I can see she claims to have had a change of opinion since then, her support for the Biden administion's deplorable efforts in this area gives me no faith in her. This critique extends broadly - even if she isn't able to personally say, reimplements masking mandates as the vice-president her continual stance aligned with Biden's leaves her an unacceptable choice. Finally while she may not be as lifelong a supporter of Israel, whatever her personal stance has refused to condemn the atrocity that is Israel's ongoing occupation, annexation, and genocide. In light of Friday's ICJ ruling any position except full and vocal opposition to apartheid is unexcusable. Ok a policy level, Harris has yet to demonstrate anything that would lend credence to her being better than Biden. Plus, the convention hasn't happened yet. Is the party platform even finalized? Politically speaking, this position destroys the ability of those with more integrity to attempt to negotiate agreements that would allow the democratic party to have policies that are actually viable!

But all of that's practical. Morally speaking, please go educate yourself further? That's the best response I can give to this in good faith - it goes steadily down from there. The "moral" decision when asked to pick between two people, one .9 the other 1.0 on the Hitler scale, is to dedicate your existence to uprooting the structures that would allow 1.9 hitlers into political power to begin with! Asking someone to vote for a "slightly less bad" Hitler is saying there's some bright line that would be able to be crossed. Were that threshold exceeded you would oppose that group, but since they're just shy of the line it's ok this time. If you cannot see that as an appeal to stability, the culmination of assimalative forces attempting to uproot any threat to the systems they have bound themselves to the support of, I distrust your moral judgement categorically.

And finally, as a disabled transwoman how fucking dare you use my vulnerability (itself a product of your candidate and party's absolute refusal to abandon it's fascist policies) as an attempted cudgel against people with more moral clarity than yourself. I am in a position of relative privilege as far as they are available to transwomen at scale, and the implication that my personal safety may be threatened is beyond reprehensible. If the threat truly is that dire, then your own party's policies show their inability to reliably repair much less prevent harms. And finally, voting for a candidate who doesn't resoundingly and categorically reject apartheid is an endorsement of it. Full stop.

My morality has worth, more than my own safety because the choice is reprehensible. Your morality focusing on those who choose to try and live their morals rather than pressure the political establishment to take steps to make the world better is far more telling

today on the train home the guy next to me was on his phone and at one point i saw him go on tumblr and he just had like. a normie dash. like it was all photography. of nature and architecture. he was using tumblr the way a heterosexual landscaper for rich people might use instagram. i actually had to watch his screen for a few seconds to be sure it really was tumblr because i was so taken aback by the content he was viewing. this is why algorithmless websites are so beautiful btw because i genuinely didn't know that this side of tumblr even existed. he didn't even so much as scroll past any text posts.

wheelchair users deserve a minimum of three wheelchairs to meet different needs. like, bare minimum of indoor chair, outdoor chair, and off road chair. chairs that meet different needs for transport, activity, positioning needs, energy levels, etc.

there is not "one chair" that can meet every need. wheelchair users deserve to have multiple chairs that meet specific needs, no matter how complex their seating/positioning needs. we deserve to at least have a backup if our chair breaks that is just as suited to our needs.
