waow 2024 is almost dead!!! gone too soon. feels like it’s been a big year for me art-wise for many reasons, BUT. i’m making 2025 bigger.... hopefully....i’ve made some art goals for next year which i won’t explain in detail but they boil down to 1) do more studies 2) tackle my weaknesses (backgrounds, dynamic poses/angles, uhhh lots of stuff i am a one trick pony right now) 3) get into drawing comics, all of which are in preparation for 4) take my story ideas more seriously and get started on one of the many graphic novels living in my head. i have one in mind i HAVE to complete in my lifetime or i will die, but firstly i’m gonna mess around with some little standalone svanhildr comics perhaps. goat fans rejoice.

#x 2022 #pearl #maxxxine #x series #strait-jacket #psycho #what ever happened to baby jane #horror #psycho-biddy #hagsploitation #made this whole big thing which i still might post eventually but. in terms of aesthetics. this abridged version is better lol #i'm not gonna finish the other post tonight but consider this a preview of sorts #i can't stop thinking about what if they leaned more into the 'hagsploitation' aspect of it all lol #i actually find it odd + off-putting that they start and end maxxxine with a bette davis reference #with a big significant psycho cameo at the bates motel itself #and there's not really any payoff for those allusions!!#i think if you're gonna try to tie into a legacy of older horror films you should do it in a sincere way #because that just felt like 'elevated horror' bonus points + nostalgia bait #anyway. it's fun to think about the potential it had + how all the building blocks exist within the narrative to do something interesting #and i am a 1960s hagsploitation subgenre apologist lol #what ever happened to baby jane? changed my brain chemistry the first time i watched it as a kid #so maybe i'm just nostalgia baiting myself making these connections lmao #but it could have been so good #it could have been the perfect synthesis of the shared themes across all three movies #but i don't think hagsploitation gets butts in movie theater seats like girlboss 80s nostalgia vaguely true crime related shit #oh wait also i guess calling psycho a hagsploitation movie is like. probably not 100% accurate #but it is though. it's not an inversion of the subgenre bc the subgenre didn't exist yet #but it builds up a mystery 'psycho-biddy' character only to reveal that she's not the murderer #which is also what happens in strait-jacket so i think it counts!!#+ psycho is directly referenced in all 3 movies so it’s a pretty clear influence on the trilogy as a whole

#australia adventure #i also watched the jurassic world movie for the first time AFTER going to the exhibit #it feels like it Could have been a good movie but the writing is so sexist and i spent too much time yelling EVACUATE THE GUESTS OH MY GOD #chris pratt sucks but they should've made him a horse girl for dinosaurs. that would've fixed it a bit #claire as a character is done so horribly dirty like. she's extremely competent and professional #but the entire narrative is like... portraying her as in the wrong for... being professional? for not being maternal enough?#what kind of moral is 'omggg u just need to let loose' in a movie where a SUPERMURDER DINOSAUR IS OUT OF ITS ENCLOSURE #SHE SHOULD'VE STUCK TO PROTOCOL AND EVACUATED THE PARK IMMEDIATELY!!!!!! omfg . radio play version of much ado with david as benedick from 2001

#this version of benedick is a lottttt more serious and restrained than the 2011 version #definitely due to the medium and bc it matches the energy of this version of beatrice way better #it's not david and catherine's insane comedic chemistry but it's still really good imo..#like it's obviously not as endlessly fucking funny as the 2011 version but it's still really solid #and i'm impressed with how they did the humor in a 100% audio format #and i actually really love this interpretation of benedick as more cynical and leaning into his Hater side #ironically david's benedick here generally comes off as older and more mature than his benedick 10 years later #'the prince's fool... hAhH???' is obviously extremely funny but also 'the prince's fool... Strahdposting (with possible spoilers so tread lightly)

One of the worst things about Strahd in our campaign is that he's not overtly forced anyone to do anything. His underlings have, sure, but never him. He just waits for us to eliminate our options all on our own, and then presents us with his way. And of course, his way is the easiest. He'll even make it easier. We keep falling into the pit because he ensures we dig it ourselves.

We're almost past the point where he wants to bargain with us and I'm nervous about what happens when he stops being the devil we know and becomes something else altogether.

The recent reveal that there were other parties before ours has been so shattering for us, I think, because it made us all realize that our party is an amusement until it is an inconvenience, and then we'll be insects in the garden that have overstayed our welcome. And then he'll start with the force.

#even when Demetria was kidnapped #we only SAY kidnapped because Volenta did it and Strahd got to play hero about the whole thing #Every subsequent time she went to Ravenloft was on a bargain.#we're so past the wining and dining phase that it's unreal #but he'd convinced a party member to turn traitor and is moving in on another because he knows we work better being coaxed #barovia is so so scary and you know what? vampire castle supreme seems real nice sometimes.#in terms of power i was specifically thinking of when he found out we resurrected leo and collected him after 3 business days #he only used force after we acted first #and then was all “look what you made me do.”#good fucking god #and obviously #it's control while maintaining the illusion of culpability on our part. but it works. oh... does it work.#i know some DMs have him being very traditionally forceful and i think that's a great interpretation #because the first strahd game i was in leaned heavy into that #but i think our strahd in this game uses vampire-as-seduction in an extraordinarily cool way.#i had the same DM for both and i think this version is some fine fine work.#curse of strahd spoilers #cos: the sorority
