Story time!

Firstly, the play was excellent. the theatre is absolutely tiny. i was on the second row and still felt like i was practically on the stage. the acting was really good, shaun is an insanely good actor, i was not prepared for how gorgeous he is in real life.

the show ended and me and my dad hung around for a while but we had a train to catch so i was ready to abandon the plan but then my dad goes "oh there he is" and i turned round and suddenly there's shaun behind me talking to people and giving a massive hug to a guy who i assume he's friends with lol. so they were talking to each other for like 10 minutes and obviously i didn't want to interrupt so i got to just stand and stare at him for ages (the bar was really busy and noisy so i couldn't hear what he was saying annoyingly) but he seemed really happy and upbeat so i figured it would be okay to talk to him.

there were 3 other people that were waiting for him too so we were all just stood there patiently and then shaun suddenly realised we were there and was like "are you waiting for me?" and was so apologetic for keeping us waiting and said he was too busy chatting, i was like "that's fine! don't worry!" he said hello to me and i asked if he would sign my programme, he asked my name and then i think he asked if i enjoyed the play and i said "yes! it was really good, really interesting" and he said "did you know much about the period of history?" and i said "no not much, i'd done a bit of googling beforehand but i didn't know that much about it" and then i said i'd never been to this theatre before and it was such a nice theatre and he agreed. then he said did i want a photo so we took a photo and i was like "thank you so much!" and then for some reason i blurted out "i'm also a really big fan of endeavour!" as i went to walk away, i think my brain was starting to shut down by that point lmao. but he happily replied "thanks very much". and then i left him alone because others were waiting and if i'd carried on god knows what else i would have said lmao

he was just so lovely and kind. not to sound weird but he fully made eye contact when he spoke to me like he was actually interested in talking to me, and he didn't just sign his name he asked for mine and asked me questions and asked if i wanted a photo, kept saying sorry when he realised we'd been waiting for him. he really is gorgeous up close!!

You have to remember they are researchers. They are interacting with wild animals, and aren't trying to ruin their data with interference like that.

They don't give food gifts, flood the forest with animals (except when other conservation efforts overlap), or attempt to acclimate Clan cats to humans. This fear of people is considered a good thing; it would be very bad for cats to rely on humans or interact with hikers regularly.

(Even SkyClan can end up on thin ice with their willingness to steal and beg.)

So it's unlikely the Clan cats come up to ask for help and that is a positive. If it did happen, they may do the bare minimum (like when a shark asks a human to remove a fishhook), and then write it down in their notes.

But hikers are given a LOT of warnings, and even fined, for bothering the wildlife. Clan cats WILL hurt you if you grab them. You're encouraged to only walk and camp in marked areas.

The cats aren't the only reason for that either!

Sanctuary Lake boasts a sizeable boar population, a red deer herd, over a dozen species of protected songbirds, badgers, otters, foxes, and beavers were (indirectly) re-introduced.

Motor boats are also banned in the lake, to protect water quality. The water is so pure that it's able to host the endangered Freshwater Pearl Mussel, and probably has its own species of endemic fish.

So in a nutshell; no. The Clan cats are not messed with. Interaction is kept distant very purposefully.

What kind of food do they serve at Pauli's Diner? What does Khare find herself cooking during her shift?

Pauli's Diner serves classic 50's American cuisine! The menu is pretty extensive with retro classics like burgers and fries, steak, hot dogs, fried chicken, caesar salad, wings, pizza, pasta, basically your lunch time classics with a heavy focus on breakfast such as pancakes, waffles, french toast, eggs, bacon and other fried foods. There's pretty much everything you can think of and what self-respecting diner skips dessert? The milkshakes at Pauli's Diner are renowned as the best in Gotham, made with actual fruit and ice cold milk to give it that famous taste. Strawberry, chocolate, banana are all traditional favourites but Oreo, Peanut Butter and seasonal specials like Tropical (in Summer) or Pumpkin Spice (during Fall) are known to make appearances!

Working at night, Khare usually finds herself helping out in the kitchen if multiple meals require attention. Normally these are things like burgers, chicken, fish, pizza, often things that requires a little custom work (the gentleman at table three insisted on no pickles!) while the main night cook sees everyone gets served at the same time. Jerry's quick and efficient at his work but Gotham is busy even at night what with many night-time wanderers looking for a meal after (or before) work. More often than not, Khare is getting things ready for the breakfast rush, preparing batter for pancakes, baking muffins and preparing bagels (and other quick meals on the go) for early risers on their way to work around the city. Basically it's your hearty all-american fare that's not always the healthiest but certainly delicious and filling while being cheap enough to make it a favourite of many, be they poor or rich businessmen in too much of a hurry to cook their own breakfasts. The menu has classics not commonly found outside of the 50's diner theme but they do have a few twists such as a section for Soul Food as Jerry is AMAZING at cooking those dishes.

At first i thought this was referring to what happened in March 2020, but no. Things haven’t changed! Even as far back as 1918 this was happening! (More on that later.)

The health center in this case was in Seattle, not Canada, but it’s close to the border for a reason. it’s explained further by this article:

Native communities in both the US and Canada are severely neglected and actively endangered.

Indigenous people weren't consulted when lockdowns happened. They don't have a seat at the table. Whether you're talking about the federal, provincial or the local level, they're not asked their opinion. In B.C., the federal government closed borders without their knowledge.

In Ontario, when they opened up the province in July, they didn't talk to First Nations people. They didn't seem to realize people would get in their boats and come to the First Nations, bringing COVID to our communities. People would tie their boats off and walk into the communities like there was no pandemic. To me, that was a huge eye-opening piece. (University of Toronto)

It's expected that epidemics hurt those of lower socioeconomic means in particular, which many tribes are unfortunately within. Other communities of color—specifically Pacific Islander, Latino and Black communities—were hit heavily as well, having a "COVID-19 death rate of double or more that of White and Asian Americans."

Indigenous communities still have the highest percentage of deaths, which the Great Falls Tribune attributes to long-term disinvestment, racist public policies, ongoing settler colonialism. Chronic underfunding (especially in healthcare) with outdated machinery, crowded homes and deficient plumbing also contribute to the issue. Many reservations have little access to clean water, despite tribal water rights legally recognized for over a century. It makes sense that on reservations in particular, there often isn't enough room for people to quarantine the way that most of us are able to.

Native American communities are often the latest to be addressed when it comes to federal resources. This is consistent with what happened in 1918, which Dana Hedgpeth of the Washington Post pointed out in her article "Native American tribes were already being wiped out. Then the 1918 flu hit" (unfortunately the whole article is behind the paywall).

Frustratingly, articles such as this one attribute the high death toll to (as well as underlying health conditions), "lack of institutional resilience, the relationship between the federal governments and tribal governments, and lack of social trust." This may be true, but if so is not unwarranted given the many, many legally-binding treaties that have not been upheld. There is a whole History article on Broken Treaties with indigenous populations, and that's only covering some of the most famous ones!

Not to mention that Indigenous Americans have lower life expectancy and significantly disproportionate rates of diseases and chronic conditions, which as we know makes them all the more vulnerable to death upon contracting disease. In fact, an analysis of disparities conducted by the Federal Health Program for American Indians and Alaska Natives states, "American Indians and Alaska Natives continue to die at higher rates than other Americans in many categories, including chronic liver disease and cirrhosis, diabetes mellitus, unintentional injuries, assault/homicide, intentional self-harm/suicide, and chronic lower respiratory diseases."

Suffice to say, despite the many leaps in indigenous representation and recognition, indigenous tribes are often given the short end of the stick, especially when it comes to healthcare. We have to make it so that the next time something like this happens—and make no mistake, it will happen—things will be different.

Edit: Since this gained more notes, for those who don't know KOSA is, it is a USA bill that was reintroduced on May 2023 (last year). It is called ¨Kids Online Safety Act¨ (KOSA for short). It has been introduced and reintroduced for a while now since 2022. It is meant with the intention to ¨protect kids¨ by restricting their use of internet by pushing age restrictions and people having to present their ID to use internet or access certain websites, quite similar to the Kansas state bill that got passed. Many groups and people have criticized this bill for the potential censorship it can come with it and do more harm to the kids than help them. Possible censorship that has been suggested this bill can bring is LGBT+ content, politics and news, mental health search, political and social opinions in general (adults included). What is more, it has been put into question the possible invasion of privacy for both minors and adults by having to share an identification to use certain websites. That people could get censored or doxxed by doing this.

As for the bill itself, there was a hearing earlier today in the Senate. ( April 17th-Wednesday). It could take a while before it gets voted and has to pass different stages. Then it would take months (18 months) to be implemented if it gets passed.

I'm not American myself, so i'm not sure how much i can do about this. What i do recommend is making calls to senators and people involved in pushing this bill to make clear your disapproval of it. Try sign petitions or just telling others about it.
