My boy!!! I love Jekyll so Much!!

Hyde can see that Jekyll dosent take him seriously so he tried to use that ninformation to show that he sees Jekylls point and is even putting himself down to get Jekyll to agree.

He really wantd Jekyll back because he needs him,

“Be a good little boy” once Again Jekyll is belittling Hyde, he’s pushing him down calling him a child to make himself feel higher.

I love how Hyde and Jekyll mirror eachoher here, similar facial expressions and similar movements but they arent exactly the same. Jekyll and Hyde are like eachother but they arent the same person.

“You wont stop fighting for your freedom, its in your nature” yet when Hyde had a sense freedom he couldnt handle it. He couldnt handle the quiet, as much as he thought he liked this idea of freedom, when he put it into practice it almost drove him insane.

But Jekyll wasn’t completely wrong, Hyde is still fighting but he’s fighting for something new, he’s fighting for himself, Jekyll, and Lanyon to get Jekyll back because he knows it will benefit all of them

Hyde has a good point, they ballance eachother out, without one the other has something missing, they came from the same person, they are apart of eachother. They are the yin to the others yang, dark to light, they are important for eachother to keep balance

HYDE HAS THE PASSION FOR IT WHILE JEKYLL LETS HIMSELF GET WALKED OVER AND HE GIVES UP TO EASILY

While these might seem like bad Ideals, if you dont live you’ll always be left behind, if you dont want you dont have the passion and Drive to do things, If you dont fight for things to shrink down and get walked over, you Give UP

Jekyll isnt fighting with Hyde, he’s fighting to live and he’s fighting to keep his reputation, he fights with Hyde because he want to have control.

Or at least, thats my interpritation, its left in the air until next week.

But jekylls insecure nature really makes me believe what I said, though it may not be 100% accurate, but I think it may have some merit.

Last thoughts before the update! I can just imagine Hyde getting Jekyll’s attention by saying something like: "I can't believe you'd just abandon Lanyon like this." Because he is. Jekyll obviously doesn't want to think about it, but he's hurting all of his loved ones by destroying himself. Abandoning his life necessarily involves abandoning everyone who cares about him. But that's the thing, isn't it? Maybe Jekyll has convinced himself that they don't care about him anymore. How could they, after the reveal of such a horrifying secret? Why would they care about him, now that they can see him for who he truly is? And even if Jekyll thinks it's possible they still care about him, he's probably convinced himself they'll be fine without him. That they'd get over it. Bro. No, they won't be. He's excellent at lying even to himself. This is why I think it's essential that Hyde will likely tell Jekyll about the things Lanyon told him. About Lanyon’s love for them, and him recognizing that Hyde is not evil. Hyde is simply an intrinsic part of Henry Jekyll’s personality and being. He belongs there. Heck, I'm willing to bet that, deep down, what Hyde has been craving, through this whole story, is exactly that: a sense of belonging. Specifically, the feeling of being accepted as a part of Henry Jekyll. I think that’s what he truly needed this whole time, even if he wasn’t fully aware of it himself. He wants to be accepted. Not pushed away. Not rejected wholesale. Not ignored. Not feeling like he's nothing. I’ve talked about Hyde’s journey with identity and belonging plenty before. I won’t repeat it here. But this confrontation between Jekyll and Hyde is the culmination of that. Jekyll needs to accept who he really is, and that means accepting Hyde. Easier said than done, for sure. Henry is a walking ball of self-loathing. But if Hyde can break through that, with the truths, the insights he’s found on his journey, then Jekyll might actually listen. But, final prediction: there’s a good chance Jekyll might accuse Hyde of lying, at first, when Hyde tries to share what he’s learned from his conversation with Lanyon. Hyde will have to stay determined, no matter what. And me? I’m rooting for him, of course!

I stumbled across @arythusa’s The Glass Scientists webcomic early this year and fell in love, so I animated a little scene for fun 🧪

I built a Front and 3/4 Front Jekyll and Hyde rig (fun fact, they’re one rig!) and animated them in Toon Boom Harmony, HalluciLanyon spawning and getting harpooned is a tweaked version of that rig, and him getting bodied was drawn in Procreate.  The layout was also made in Harmony. The audio is from the movie Drop Dead Fred.

I used the comic itself as the ‘model sheet’ to build the rig off of- used various panels for their heights and body parts in place of character, hand, mouth, etc sheets, so many pieces are pulled right from the pages. I also got to experiment with compositing, which was fun!

The art and story of this comic hooked me and I’m so excited to see where it goes! ❣️

(flops on stage) i now present to you my very silly swap au,,,

essentially jasper is now the co-leader of the society who was bitten by a werewolf and is trying to hide it, jekyll is the uni student who got kicked out due to his experiments and then picked up off the streets, etc. jasper and rachel can’t communicate and jekyll and lanyon are living the world’s weirdest horror romcom you’ve ever seen. more info under cut hehe (feat. bad explanations and doodles)

in simpler terms, jekyll and lanyon swap narrative positions (?? is that the right term) with jasper and rachel respectively. (lanyons and rachels swap doesn’t technically work as well as Jekyll’s and jaspers does but shhhhh). Frankenstein becomes the mad scientist that attacks the society and moreau becomes jaspers idol.

longer explanation but WARNING!! it is 3am when i am typing this and i am terrible at explaining. it may be slightly incomprehensible.

so like jasper and rachel founded the society after jasper publishes his research and gets semi famous. two years before current events jasper is out on a research venture and gets bitten by a werewolf. he doesn’t want to scare rachel or the lodgers so he keeps it a secret (to his own detriment). flash forward to now and jasper gets a call to investigate a “creature” terrorizing the streets of london only to find hyde.

before jasper can process the dumpster man he is looking at hyde transforms back into jekyll. jekyll explains that while trying to prove his theory of spiritual alchemy at his university he may or may not have split his own soul. and got kicked out. and is now living on the streets.

jasper, not really knowing what else to do and kinda relating to the poor guy, takes him back to the society. he introduces his co-leader rachel, who pretty much keeps this entire thing up and running. (rachel and jekyll still become friends but she especially takes to hyde. that little brother shaped hole in her heart is still very much present!) then theres the lodgers (idk how they all swap) and then there’s lanyon, a university student at the society because it was mandatory for one of his courses. he is not enjoying it and would very much rather be breaking boy’s hearts back at school. lucky for him tho, there’s jekyll!

this goes about as well as you would expect. lanyon then spends the rest of his stay at the society trying to understand (and woo) the conundrum that is jekyll and hyde. it’s very fluffy and they learn to communicate like jasper and rachel in canon (yippee!)

unfortunately for jasper and rachel, they have been playing the “just friends” game for the last decade. im having a bit of trouble trying to flesh out swap rachel so i don’t really know if she’s in a lavender marriage like canon lanyon is or is estranged/divorced or just single but whatever the case is she likes jasper but thinks he just sees her as a friend while jasper is madly in love with her and is too scared to tell her. this problem has only worsened since jasper got bitten. everyone else tho is aware of how they feel about each other and are stuck witnessing their tortuously long slow burn.

(hyde and lanyon at some point probably come up with a scheme to try and get them to confess. it goes horribly wrong.)

so yeah. this au has been floating around in my head ever since i read the comic for the first time. it mainly came to be because of how well jasper and jekyll parallel each other and because i wanted to draw stupid fluff and older jasper lol.

if anyone has any ideas/questions/etc TELL ME!!!!! this is just a rough idea if you have a better concept go for it awhdvgevd

Yay Medieval Au stuff!!! I had an Idea that Hyde would unironically start a cult with his knowledge on the supernatural and alchemy, that he would stage spiritual awakenings to the poor uneducated people of the slums of where he likes to murk. Also Hyde is great Public speaker so it checks out, I loved leaning into his theatrical monologuing so I hope you enjoyed this silly lil comic I threw together. For explanation on why Lanyon is here - He's sus on hyde so he sneaks out at night to follow him around and investigate. In doing this he accidentally witnesses the formation of a whacko cult. ASLOOOOOOOOOO I Made a Google Doc with all information about the AU because I'm too lazy to make a Tumblr Masterpost. Go have a read, I promise there's (maybe) something interesting on there!!
