This chapter had me so tense.

I love that you've included this scene in your story, where Yulin is brought before Lord Yunzhong and lies to him about the Firefly Stone, while Ronghao and Vianxia are forced along with all of Yujing to attend the 'trial'.

So so tense! And the continuing development of Ronghao's changing attitude is so well done. I like that he's been challenged, I like that he is now open about his need to protect Vianxia, and that he's been given reasons (whether he knows it or not at this stage) to find a need to focus on who he has, and (eventually, we hope) to let go of Chidi.

Vianxia's flashbacks in this chapter, to the time she was nearly executed by Yunzhong, actually made me anxious. The flashbacks are so strong, the clear injustice and harsh sentencing of Yulin is so awful, and the temptation to kill Yunzhong while all his focus is on something else is so great, that I really really could not stop reading until the end because I thought she was going to do it, she was really going to try and kill him

In the show, this scene really drives home the true significance of a Firefly Stone and why Changheng gave one to Orchid - we already knew it wasn't accidental, we already knew he'd wanted her to have it - but it now adds that extra layer of danger, because the significance of such an easily identifiable love token is undeniable.

Lord Yunzhong will not allow destiny to be subverted. He allowed Changheng to keep that handkerchief in an earlier episode, but is he regretting it now?

Yunzhong's ruthlessness is a narrative plotpoint - without this scene, we wouldn't have understood Changheng's decision to wipe Orchid's memories. Sure, it wasn't a great decision, but in the light of Yunzhong literally tearing Yulin from her family and home with no hope of return, it's now understandable.

On the other hand, Yulin seems to cling to Main Character syndrome several times throughout this mini-arc, insisting that she didn't steal it, insisting that Changheng gave it to her, even though Changheng is right there denying it (and then later trying to attack Orchid and blame her when this whole Firefly Stone thing was 100% Yulin's bright idea).

Did she expect Changheng to be chivalrous and agree in order to save her life? Or was she just that sure of herself that she actually started to believe her own lie?

@tockamybeloved I appreciated you following through on Yulin's fate, and giving a little bit of hope there that maybe her final fate wasn't exactly what Yunzhong ordered...

Mushishi (anime) and The Cryptonaturalist (fiction podcast) clearly belong to some same niche subgenre and appeal to me in many of the same ways but I'm still not sure I can recommend them to fans of the other respective media.

FDA Weighs in on Visitor-Delivered Food: “Perfectly Safe.”

Last January, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) began research into the effects that traversing the Visitor Plane has on food. This was prompted by the spread of a viral video of a man claiming that food he consumed from popular delivery service and well-known Visitor employer Dear Grocer, gave him the ability to "hear colors."

This sparked similar claims in the comments of the video as well in comments sections on various other social media sites where the video was reshared. After a year of research and study the FDA issued a notice stating that these claims are false, and advised that anyone claiming to have the ability to hear colors schedule an appointment with their general practitioner, as they may have a neurological condition known as synesthesia. The agency further stated that while the Visitor Plane does have some effect on the food that goes through it, and it is unclear what exactly the effect is, the food is "perfectly safe" to consume.

"The food that passes through [The Visitors Plane] undeniably has something happen to it, but an apple that goes through is still an apple once it's on the other side. It's like multiplying something by one; while a process has occurred, things are fundamentally unchanged. The food is perfectly safe to eat." The agency states.

This notice has raised questions related to the safety of having other materials travel through the Visitors Plane, including humans themselves:

The FDA has elected not to comment on these inquiries, stating that they would be better answered by the Department of Transportation. However, they did reiterate that food transported through the Visitors Plane is fine for human consumption.

Knowing what my characters look like (and being able to draw them) really helps me get a feel of who they are. I figured I should show you guys as well, so you can get a lil bit of a sense of who they are while things progress in the background.
