'Cillian Murphy's Oppenheimer may have dominated the box office, but Netflix subscribers have been loving a very different movie of his which was released back in 2011.
According to the latest Netflix top 10 details, movie lovers have been watching the sci-fi thriller In Time and it currently has an impressive spot at number four on the list, behind the likes of Accused and Love At First Sight.
In Time is set in a dystopian future where people are genetically engineered to stop aging on their 25th birthday. Everyone has a timer on their arm which shows how long they've got left, and "time" has become currency, so the wealthiest people are effectively immortal.
The official plot teases: "In a future where people stop aging at 25, but are engineered to live only one more year, having the means to buy your way out of the situation is a shot at immortal youth. Here, Will Salas finds himself accused of murder and on the run with a hostage — a connection that becomes an important part of the way against the system."
Cillian Murphy plays the role of Timekeeper Raymond Leon, a former resident of the ghetto who escaped and became a Timekeeper, a key part of the movie.
He's joined by an all-star cast including Justin Timberlake who plays the leading role of Will Salas and Amanda Seyfried as Sylvia Weis, who is kidnapped by Will and becomes his willing accomplice, using her knowledge of her father's business to help take down the system.
The movie was directed by Gattaca's Andrew Niccol with cinematography by Roger Deakins, who won an Oscar for his work on the brutal war movie 1917.
Audiences and critics appear to be somewhat divided on In Time though, with the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer indicating that it has a critic approval rating of just 37%, making it "rotten".
However, audiences were slightly more favorable and have given it a score of 51% based on over 50,000 individual reviews, so people definitely have strong opinions when it comes to the sci-fi movie.'

The bracket is here!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For the first round, there will be 55 "byes" (the ones who do not have byes were randomly determined, but all were one submission preliminary winners). There was an exact tie between Erina and Robert from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and Willow and Xander from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so they both made the bracket! Also, there was so much passion for Agent Beakley and Scrooge McDuck that I just had to include them! So in total, there are 73 competitors. The first round will be released tomorrow and will only be a one day poll so we can jump into the round of 64 quicker! May the best besties win!!!

'One of Cillian Murphy's action flicks, which was released 12 years ago, has become an unexpected hit since landing on Netflix. In Time landed on Netflix this month and has since shot into the top ten most-watched list on the streaming platform.
After dominating the box office with the release of Oppenheimer this year, a Cillian Murphy flick is now being streamed by droves of Netflix subscribers. In Time originally came out in 2011 and received mixed reviews from critics.
The sci-fi thriller is set in a dystopian future where time is a form of currency. Thanks to incredible scientific advancements, people in this world stop aging at 25 but are engineered to only live another year unless they manage to acquire more time.
Everyone in this film has a timer on their arm which shows how much time they have left. With time being the currency, the rich live unnaturally long lives while the poor struggle to stay alive.
The official synopsis for the film reads: "In a future where people stop aging at 25, but are engineered to live only one more year, having the means to buy your way out of the situation is a shot at immortal youth. Here, Will Salas finds himself accused of murder and on the run with a hostage — a connection that becomes an important part of the way against the system."
Cillian Murphy plays a key part in the film with the role of Timekeeper Raymond Leon who managed to escape life in a ghetto. Justin Timberlake plays the role of Will Salas and Amanda Seyfried plays Sylvia Weis, who is kidnapped by Will and ends up becoming his accomplice.
Together, Will and Sylvia set out on a mission to take down the unjust system. The film also stars Alex Lettyfer, Olivia Wilde, Johnny Galecki, and Matt Bomer.
After being added to Netflix, In Time enjoyed 5.7 million individual views accruing a total of 10.4 million hours. This is despite its low Rotten Tomatoes score and its unfavorable critic reviews.
Critics seemed pretty much in agreement about the movie as the film has a 37 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the audience score is slightly higher at 51 percent with over 50,000 ratings from viewers.'

In Time (2011)
Film review #600
Director: Andrew Niccol
SYNOPSIS: In the future, time is the only currency: people stop aging at the age of twenty five, and after, must work to earn time on their lives, as well as using time to pay for everything else. Will Salas works in the ghetto, earning just enough to live day-to-day, when he meets a man at a bar who has over a century left on his life. The man, who has apparently been living over a hundred years, has grown tiring of living, and transfers all his remaining time to Will. Faring that having so much time could upset the balance of the economy, Will becomes hunted by Timekeepers whose job it is to restore order, while Will decides to use his new found time to fleece the system for everything it has...
THOUGHTS/ANALYSIS: In Time is a 2011 sci-fi film. Set in the future of 2169, time has become the only currency, where people stop aging at 25, and must get extra time on their lives by working for it, but also must pay for everything with that same time as well. It's a fairly interesting set-up, although I don't think overly novel. The downfall of the film is that it in no way explores the concept it leads with. At the start, we get a scene between main character Will Salas and who we are lead to believe is his wife, but turns out to be in fact his Mother, because everyone stops aging at the age of twenty-five, you would have no idea how old someone was. This seems like some thing that has potential to be explored, but it barely gets a mention. Another big part of the film is the portrayal of the gap between those who have to earn time day-by-day to keep from dropping dead, and those who have hundreds of years on their clock so they can practically live forever, thus creating a dystopia of inequality. The trouble here is, this doesn't really seem any different than the systems of inequality we have today. Obviously science-fiction works best when it serves as a reflection of contemporary society in some way, but because the film's concept is not developed or intertwined more closely with the core story, it becomes fairly irrelevant. We are often told about this system of inequality, and how people in the ghetto are fighting to survive, but every scene there is fairly calm and quiet, whereas you would expect people to be constantly fighting each other for seconds or minutes, particularly if they were at the end of their time. Therein lies the problem: the film tells you about the world, but what is shown rarely matches up to that, thus the film really tries to force feed it's world to you, rather than letting viewers immerse themselves in it to explore for themselves. There's also the fact that the future is hardly any different than our present, save for the time-based currency: all the cars, buildings etc. are things you would find in any city, and again, you're just not immersed in this setting.
The plot proper concerns Will Salas (Justin Timberlake), a worker in the ghetto who meets a man from the rich zone with over a hundred years on his clock, who has grown tired of living after over a century. He gives Will all his time while he is sleeping, leaving just enough to throw himself of a bridge when it runs out. When Will's mum dies as well from running out of time, Will decides to use his newfound time to take everything from the rich. It's a bit of a leap from Will just trying to survive to becoming a revolutionary, as we aren't really given any idea about his backstory or anything, and it feels like there's a bit of a gap between suffering a loss to deciding to tear down the whole system. Will buys his way into the rich zone, and with the help of Sylvia Weis (Amanda Seyfried), the daughter of a rich banker whom Will initially kidnaps, the two embark on a Bonnie and Clyde style set of raids and robberies to distribute time from the elite to the people of the ghetto, disrupting the time-base economy, all the while being pursued by the timekeepers, who enforce the system. Given that the aim given in the film is for Will to bring down the whole system, the film instead just focuses on a constant chase between Will and authorities, never advancing the story in any significant way. In fact, the end of the film just states that they can't up-end the system, and seemingly ends with the pair on their way to rob another time bank and just do what the film already showed ad infinitum. There's also a small plot point that hints about Will's Dad being killed for doing the same thing that he is doing, but this is mentioned off-hand once or twice and never becomes relevant to anything, which makes you wonder why it is mentioned at all.
Overall, In Time offers an interesting set-up, but ultimately fails to do anything with it. We are left with a world very similar to our own, and one that is too similar and thus unengaging, as the film constantly avoids developing it with any detail, or exploring any implications from its core concept. The characters are fairly bland, and Justin Timberlake's performance hasn't improved since his role in the sci-fi film Southland Tales, which had the same problems there. Unresolved plotlines, a lack of direction, and an absence of depth leave the viewer with a film that's simple enough to follow and a bit of style, but wholly lacking in substance and direction.

Alguna vez leí, y recuerdo que era un texto científico o por lo menos arbitrado, que las canciones de Silvio contienen siempre, deliberadamente, un “valle” o sección aburrida destinada a reforzar la sensación de grandiosidad al llegar el coro.
“Le he preguntado a mi sombra a ver cómo ando... zzzz...
The darkness is not the absorption of color but the absorption of language.
Como:
The way grief is really about future absence. The way the future closes  its offices when a mother dies.
Como:
Death isn’t the enemy. Knowledge of death is the enemy.
Como:
I know now that to be loved as a child means to be watched. In high school, I loved when the teacher turned the lights off. A moment to be loved and unseen at once. I understand now. We can’t be loved when the lights are off.
When the pony moved, the letters strung together to form sentences”.
